My 1st experience with this restaurant was when my school brought 20 high functioning autistic kids for lunch many years ago. The staff couldnt have been nicer or more accommodating to us. I have continued to order from there often. This past week I placed an order & was surprised how small the portion have become. I ordered (2) Chicken Samosa,(2) Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan (No plain naan came with the dishes)Almost $80.0 without tip. The chicken was sparse, but food remains very good
I cant comment on most of the food here because the chicken/lamb was halal, and I cant eat that, so we ordered vegetarian and fish. For the price they charged, the food was A LOT! I personally got the Chana Bhatura, and for a 62 210 lbs man it was way too much food. Also loved the fish curry and the Chaat. The mango lassi was to die for! There wasnt anyone in the restaurant when we went it, so I dont know if the service is the same when the place is full, but we were very well looked after. The food was very tasty, the portions were HUGE, and very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this place if youre in the area.
The food is average. Had a vegetarian lunch combo and the food lacks taste. If you have ever eaten authentic Indian food, this is nowhere near. The prices are reasonable. The quantity of food is quite good. Various options to choose from. Overall this place can solve your h-angry (hunger-anger) issues.
A Big NO!I can take a low - key Indian restaurant setting but the food has to be good. There was barely any taste in any of the curries offered. I guess I expected better food in the heart of New York city. The whole experience was a disaster because of the ill tasting food. I had a brought a friend along to try Indian food but I surely made a mistake coming here.
This is by far one of the best Indian restaurant Ive visited. The food is delicious and always fresh, servings are perfect, atmosphere is humble (and so is the cutlery) seating is usually not a problem. Nothing is over priced (considering their location) the staff has always been kind and friendly. Curry chicken is still the best Ive had.
I have been to many Indian restaurants in NYC. Swagat is the best. The staff is very polite and accommodating. Food is always of a good quality and delicious. They use organic herbs and spices to cook. It has been two years, since I am this restaurants permanent customer.
Good food, price is ok, but I give 3 stars because is not good for groups, even when they can put tables together they dont do it, for that they dont deserve 5 stars. I made a reservation and I said it is for 10 people and they made us split the group in 2 tables, which was very annoying.
This used to be one of my favorite Indian restaurants in midtown. Recently they have switched over from using mixed chicken parts to only using thick chuncks of white meat. Dishes that once were a favorite of mine are now dry because of this. The food is also not as spicy as it was before. I understand change is good for business, however if you have to switch to white meat only and water down the spice, then it is no longer Indian food. This is NOT how it is made in the home.
We were missing Indian food, and wanted to get a taste of something spicy for a change. We bumped into Swagat in Manhattan, pretty close to the Penn Station. We were pleasantly surprised with what we ate. We ordered a Vegetable Sabjhi with Garlic Naan. This was easily one of the best Garlic Naans we have had. Have not had something this good even in India. Then we ordered a plate of Pulao, and man, both the quantity and the taste was awesome. This was easily one of the most economical meals we had. We were reluctant initially, but then ordered the Mango Lassi, and this was super! It is thick and good quantity too. Loved it. We liked the place so much, that for the next day we decided to pack some parathas from this place, but it was not as good.
Decent fair, ordered in after work had the malai kofta which was nice the rice was fluffy. Also had some chicken biryani which was OK but that dish was for someone else; not exactly what I like. The vegetable samosa was OK, and the roti could be better but overall I was pleased with everything. The portions are great and youll get what you paid for unlike other places that send small dishes all the time. Will order from again.
In deciding to test this place out or go to a known pho spot we decided to test this out..big disappointment.First off the place was a sweatbox. Seems they have no ventilation and hot as hell. The employees were behind the buffet literally sweating. As was I by the time the food was paid for. If there had been a wait we would have left at that point but there is no wait. The food is there steaming, keeping the sweatbox hot. My next complaint would be that they do not have water. What type of restaurant if this ace fits that classification does not offer water? As for the food we ordered two combination plates. As for the price on these: 9.99 for the vegetable 10.95 for the meat and veg, and 11.95 for the seafood (if memory recalls). For the neighborhood..not so bad! They do keep it very light on whatever meat you order. We ordered two. The first was trash and the second was good but does not compare well to other Indian spots.#1 Masala Chicken (worst ever) , peas w/cheese, and basmati rice with lentils.#2 Lamb, Okra, and basmati rice with lentils. This plate was decent.
Especially for desi peopleThis is a good place till now I saw.. Guys please dont expect the taste which you find in India.. I think no where in US u people find that kind of taste except in the areas where our Indians stay.. Here they serve the food keeping locals in their mind I think and that is the reason the food will be mild. I like the food very much over here and I dont know y we Indians will comment false reviews.good place.. friendly nature.. good people
In my last NYC trip, I found this place in Google and visited at 3:30pm. They have south and north Indian dishes. We had vegetable platter and vegetable Biryani.Vegetable platter is really good. White rice is served with two curries of our choice and one naan. It was very tasty. If you like Hyderabadi dum biryani, dont order this.Guy at counter is very friendly and he even told not to expect Hyderabadi dum biryani.
Good service, yet food is microwaved and not good in quality. Good option for quick bites and such. I personally do not recommend the somasas, they are tastless and are definitely microwaved. As goes the same for the rest. The best thing on the menu is tea. If you prefer proper indian tea, i suggest swagat to help you fulfil that craving.
Went to this place as it is the closest indian restaurant to Penn Station. But this place is very bad. The staff does not cooperate, the place is not clean and the food is the least bit tasty. Quite frankly the worst indian food I have had in NY. The food tasted and smelt like it was 4 days old. Anyone whos cooked indian food would know this when they taste it. Food quality and hygiene dont matter to them. Avoid this one, plenty of other indian food places around.
We went to this restaurant during lunch time and ordered shahi paneer which had mustard seeds ( I have never seen shahi panner with mustard seeds in my entire life) and the curry was so runny and tasted like sambar (south indian dish) which was unexpected.Secondly, both the chef and the receptionist were eating at the tables provided for customers and we were told to wait until they finished lunch. This was something strange that we never experienced before. A good part of the lunch was their naans. They were soft and good to eat. Overall, experience wise we would give one star.
Guys beware of this restaurant. The Menu on google is 10 years old and current menu is 3 times expensive as shown on google. Bad business practice 👎🏻 They should the genuine business and put the right prices on google as eveyone is coming through google who dont know this place. A big No 👎🏻
Used to go in often-until I was cheated. I was distracted one day, I went to pay for my meal and the owners son said the price for my food wasnt up on the board because you had the dinner. I paid. The next time I went in, I asked the father about different prices & he said there was no dinner price. I didnt have the time to get into it, not for the $6.00 extra dollars-i just wont deal with people who cheat. Even if the food is O.K.
Food had a burnt taste and no consistency .The kids couldnt eat anything .The first round of paneer pakoda was good and all the rest was unpalatable.the second round of paneer pakoda was just ok.Navaratna korma was nothing close to how it should be and we were told thats the way they made it.aloo tiki had cauliflower and tasted like the tried to use left over food to make it.Cant really recommend this place to anyone.

2022-02-03This place is à gem, when à resurant slaps this hard everyone needs to know about it. The interior is spacious and clean, the food looked great even from a distance, smells great as you enter the store..... and the best part? (This is going to sound so stupid) but actual Indian people eat here! hahaha

2022-06-08I got the chicken combo through MealPal. It’s a little cheaper than the in-store price. The interior is a little bland and dark but the food is good. They also have some Indian desserts.

2022-02-13I will only change my review because of this this place is good but why the hell do they always not have people inside its supposed to be packed with people? And the food is really good the sagg and the chicken Tikka Masala is really good but how in the world you guys dont even have pumpkin and rice?? , it makes no sense when thats the best Indian dish there is and the samosas is so good that tiny Tamron sauce and the other sauce that give you is really alot , but the food is very tasty and good made fresh all the time , I want to try there curry chicken next , tha staff needs to improve tho that Indian old man cant understand anything , tha lady they have is a very nice , I will never try that mango lassy because is beyond sweet and packed with sugar.

2022-05-04DO NOT COME HERE. Ordered appetizers and dinner all together. Ended up getting dinner before appetizers. Fish pakora was around 5 to 6 small pieces for 9 dollars with no taste. Chicken tikka masala and goat had no spice. Garlic naan and tandoori roti were cold as well. Food was given in paper plates and take out containers when were dining in. Was being charged 20 percent gradituity for no service? Wasnt asked if we needed anything else or if the food was okay. Never again.

2022-07-08Delivery consistently late by at least 45 mins, they have no tracking and no sense of customer service. When I asked where my food was, they said “you’re kind of far away” and that they would call the courier, but not that they would get back to me.

2022-01-15I visited this place recently. It was almost the closing hours, yet still, the restaurant served me a fantastic food. Loved the Biryani 😅

2022-03-26My favorite Indian takeout in NYC for years. Just the right amount of spice, tastes like homemade, not too heavy, consistently good. I always bring out of towners here.

2022-04-12Quick and economical spot to grab some Indian food. Good is displayed in hot trays and freshly prepared throughout the day. Saag paneer is one of their most flavorful dishes.
