My second review for Sylvan (2013)=============================This is an update to my last years review of Sylvan and one its talented and customer centric professional, Adam Ratner. Our family made the best decision to take Ella, our daughter to Sylvan two years ago. She is now in high school and is in honor classes for all subjects, she is an A student and she made the easiest transition from middle school to high school. We know that Sylvan and its caring and dedicated staff made the difference. Ella also started her SAT sessions last year and is restarting it this January. We are thankful and very happy we started this journey with Sylvan.My first Review for Sylvan (2012)================================This feedback is for Adam Ratner at Sylvan Learning Center located on Northern Blvd, Flushing, NY. Our family signed up for the learning full cycle learning for our daughter Ella. We made that decision after we met Adam and after he explained the entire program, school culture and teaching methodology. Adams outstanding customer oriented approach made the difference for us to choose Sylvan among other options we had. Adam is an outstanding professional with strong devotion to what he does: quality learning for our young generation. Thank you Adam!
I decided to go to Sylvan after my older brother went here for SAT prep years ago and had a great experience. They raised his score by 300 points! Ive been here for just 2 weeks and Ive already learned so much. I wasnt good in math at all until I came here and now I actually understand the material. The tutors are very kind and helpful and they explain things really well. I feel more confident about taking the SAT now and Ive only been here for a short while. Theyre great and my family recommends this place to anyone whos looking for SAT prep or just tutoring in general.
Before going to Sylva learning center, my daughter started hating going to school, and this was only the first grade. Once I enrolled her in Sylva, she enjoyed the one on one attention that she wasnt getting at school and is able to do her assignments on her own; which she couldnt do before. Her confidence level has made her more independent and the teachers noticed her participation and test scores going up. I, was that frustrated parent at the homework table wondering if the school was teaching my daughter anything, and now Im a happy parent, since going to Sylva learning center in flushing. The director, Grace was very helpful. The center tested my daughters strength and weaknesses to help her become that productive child I knew she could be. Thank you Sylva for taking away the stress that made me question the school systems.
My 7th grade daughter had truly benefited from her time at the Sylvan Learning Center in Flushing. Grace and the tutoring team create nuturing academic environment that had built my childs confidence in math. I have watched her understanding of math increase to the point where she is helping me. Sylvan is a true worthwhile investment into my childs academic career.
I recently purchased a Groupon for Sylvan Learning center in Flushing, Queens. I was not disappointed. The staff and management were helpful, courteous and knowledgeable. Adam and Steven, the centers director and management, were great and Christine was a wonderful teacher. My child has been there for almost a month and has definitely made progress.
I highly recommend the Sylvan Learning Center in Flushing, NY. My son, Quinn, struggled with 6th grade math this past school year and after numerous attempts with tutors both in school and at home, we decided to use a Groupon coupon and give Sylvan a try. The coupon offers 6 sessions plus assessment for $95. The director, Adam Ratner, was especially helpful in customizing the right program for Quinn and ensuring his success with math acquisition. I never expected my son to like math, but thanks to Adam and his crew at Sylvan, he now has a positive outlook toward learning math and cant wait to return to Sylvan. Their style of teaching includes making it fun, keeping their students engaged, and employing positive reinforcement; it worked for Quinn and for this I am truly grateful!
I want to thank Adam Ratner and all his staff at Sylvan in Flushing, Queens. My daugher has been enrolled in their program, and in a short time she has made magnificent improvements in her reading skills. My daughter is very excited about her own progress, now she feels more confident when taking a test in school, because her comprehension in reading has greatly improve, she also now is looking forward to reading books that in the past she considered difficult reading. We took our 8th grade son to Sylvan to prepare him for the TACHS test. He learned test taking techniques and gained a lot more confidence. He did very well on the test and was accepted into Holy Cross HS.Now it’s time for our younger son to get help in taking the SHSAT test. We are confident that he will learn so much and also do well. Adam and the team in Flushing are wonderful people. They have a positive attitude which helps my son’s tutoring lesson not feel like its a drag. They meet with us regularly to discuss his progress. I would definitely recommend using them.
I can not be more pleased with my sons progress in only 29 hours!! My son went from being an all 65-70 student to 80-90!! Sylvan is amazing! The teachers are great. Adam and Eleni I can not thank you enough for all the hard work youve put into my son. He absolutely LOVES the iPad too!! Awesome idea!!
I was a Sylvan SAT prep student in the summer of 2011, and I am very pleased with the program and have nothing but positive feedback. The class size was small (only about 7 students), which allowed for individual attention and a comfortable learning environment. The Sylvan SAT prep material was comprehensive and very similar to the actual test. The teachers were experienced in their respective subjects and taught the material in a clear and understandable fashion. But I especially commend the Sylvan team, particularly Ms. Kimfa Lee and Ms. Ka-Ling Cheung, for graciously accommodating my schedule that often conflicted with class. On many occasions, I was able to make up a few sessions with other teachers when class was not scheduled. Fortunately, the staff at Sylvan strongly believes in the importance of their students learning and succeeding. And for that I am truly grateful.Thanks to Sylvan, I was able to raise my SAT score by several points, which contributed to my success in the college admissions process. I will be attending an Ivy League school in the fall.
I found them on Groupon and it was the best decision ever to try them out. My kids love them and will continue to go there. Steven Watson the Education Directors amazing parent conferences let me know exactly what my childs progress has been and what areas they still need help in. The centers Director, Adam Ratner is very straightforward and gives you many planning options about what your families best future education experience can be. The teaching staffs very friendly and helpful. Lots of technology based tutoring tasks helps the kids stay focused, motivated and on task. This is especially important since most of the times theyre coming straight afterschool to now do even more schoolwork. Thank you Teachers at Sylvan to help my kids feelling like they want to come back. My eight year old keeps saying, can I please just come here everyday. They also just love earning and saving those Tokens!
My name is Candace:During the summer of 2012,my dad enrolled me in Sylvan Learning Center located in Flushing,New York. That September I was entering the 7th grade in a brand new school,and my dad felt that taking a MATH course at Sylvan would ease my transition. I missed my old school, so I was not a fan of the change. After my first assessments, I ranked at a 5th grade level. I am happy to report that thanks to Adam Ratner and his staff at Sylvan I aced 7th grade with a 96 math average, and heading to the 8th grade (regents classes). My dad is happy because all semester long I was able to do my homework independently (hes not a fan of math). Im back at Sylvan this summer getting ready to tackle the 8th grade and specialized high school exams. Sylvan is Highly Recommended.
I purchased two Groupons for my son and daughter who are both entering 5th grade. Adam explained clearly during our first meeting that this was an introductory offer and it is only for 6 hours which included one evaluation test. He said this would most likely not be enough hours depending on the results of the evaluation test. I opted to add on another evaluation test, so my children were tested for both math and ELA. I have to say that the results from the evaluation testing seemed true and accurate. They seemed to zone in on my childrens weaknesses. Adam sat down with us and recommended which area we could work on for the 6 hours, he did not pressure us to add on more hours but just explained how additional tutoring would benefit both of my children. I am very pleased with Sylvan, my kids do not complain about going to tutoring in the summer, they are getting the additional help they need and having fun at the same time. Thank you to Adam and the whole team of terrific teachers.
Well worth the money. My son was having problems. We tried other less expensive learning methods, which wound up to be a waste of time and money. However, at Sylvan, he was given the help that he needed. He was able to excel. He went from being below grade level up more than one level in math and up more than two levels in reading in less than six months.
Im so happy with the results from Sylvan learning center in Flushing , my daughters Priscila and Lisamareen werentt able to read and didnt like school , I enrolled them in Sylvan in Flushing and thanks to Adam Ratner and his professional staff they were able to guide and teach my daughters in to the right path , now Priscila loves reading and her progress in school is fantastic, Meanwhile Lisamareen is in a Honors class . Adam Ratner was very professional and was able to understand and workout payment plans in order to keep both of my daughters in center.Thanks so much
I registered my 7 graders to Sylvan for practicing on SH SAT.After 20 hours ( 10 ELA and 10 Math) he showed significant improvement.In the very beginning the test result was 29/50 on ELA and 36/50 in Math.After 20 hr he has gotten 40/50 and 46/50. The total of the test is 86%.The cost is not cheap, but still affordable.Pretty clean and quite place. The ratio is 1:3.Very nice, professional and organized staff. I was communicating mostly with Adam Ratner, one of the managers. He helped me to solve all issues and concerns.We will keep attending Sylvan.Recommended to everybody who needs tutoring.
Im very happy with Sylvan Learning Center in Flushing. Very well prepared teachers. My son has improved a lot and I did the right thing for him. Ill do this for my other son too. Thank you to all of you guys!! :)
Great environment and staff. My son is on track for success and the teams feedback helps support his progress in the program. They are very flexible with options that fit my budget. We have been at this location for aprox. 1 yr or 1000 hrs. They are awesome.
Ive been doing SAT prep at Sylvan for a few weeks, and I feel better prepared to take the SAT. The tutors here are helpful, and explain topics clearly.
The teachers are very kind and extremely helpful. The facility use prizes as a way to get kids excited for learning, its a great way to get the kids involved in learning. I recommend it.

Great tutoring place. The teachers are all nice and helpful. The directors give me a monthly feedback on how my children are progressing.

This place is great..My daughter just started test prep for her college admissions exam.This is the first tutoring center she actually felt comfortable at, after trying a few others.Grace the director is super nice and extremely accommodating..

2017-05-03The teachers at Sylvan are very kind and knowledgeable. My bother is enrolled in Sylvan for about a one month now and is learning a lot. They were helpful not only to the students, but also to the parents. Grace, the director, explained the new SAT to my parents, and explained possible college options for the career my brother is interested in. We came up with a target and now are trying to reach that target. I would recommend others who are struggling with their grades or test prep to join sylvan!

2017-01-23Everyone at the Flushing Sylvan Learning center are dedicated to having their students succeed. My two daughters have been going for four months and have improved there studies so much. Grace Wen is amazing, she has always been accommodating and informative on what my daughters needed. I definitely recommend Sylvan Learning at Flushing to a parent that has children struggling in school.

2014-09-02First, I had to say I was impressed by the center director, Adam, who was exceptionally thorough and professional and knows the need for the students.I had my 2 daughters to take evaluation test at Sylvan after school is over to see where they stand. Test came results were what I expected and he pointed out what their program can enrich my daughters performance.Since my daughters were attending other summer program and the tuition in Sylvan was on the expensive side, I was hesitant to buy the hours that Adam recommended.Then I saw groupon offer and and decided to give it a try.My daughters were happy to sit with the teachers and I focused on the lesson.I think that was one of the biggest advantage with Sylvan unlike other group lessons. Its a very small group lesson and teacher is there to give you instruction and attention.My daughters were happy with 6 hour lessons that they got with Groupon purchase.Now I am looking to purchase more hours for my daughters writing needs with Sylvan , and Adam is trying to offer back to school promotion with flexible schedule once the school starts.Adam is a very effective and pleasant program director, making Sylvan experience more enjoyable.

2017-10-30I have been a student here at Sylvan for about 6 months in total and so far I am very happy with the experience!The teachers Ive had have been very helpful and patient with me. If there is a problem I have trouble understanding, the teachers will try to explain the problem in various ways as simply as possible.The first time I came to Sylvan I was tutored for the Geometry regents. I was failing my classes for a good part of the year and Im happy to say I passed thanks to Sylvan.Currently my tutors for the SAT have been extremely helpful and patient, thanks to them my confidence on tackling SAT problems has improved!

2016-09-23Sylvan has improved my sons writing ability tremendously. They have worked with him to organize his thoughts and to articulate them fully. Grace and the team of teachers have gotten to know my son and what makes him tick which resulted in him WANTING to learn and to excel in school. He has gained a lot of confidence and maturity. I would recommend Sylvan Flushing to anyone who struggles and argues with his/her child at the homework table.

2017-05-01I recently enrolled my children at Sylvan Learning Center and am very pleased. My daughter is struggling in math class but I already notice a difference. Her self confidence is improving.Every teacher I have encountered there is kind and patient. I highly recommend Sylvan.

2017-02-14Sylvan learning of flushing was a great experience for my daughter.My daughter is in 7th grade and her grades went up really fast. She started to get 90s and 100s.The teachers are really nice. They all are really friendly. One thing that I as a parent like about them is that they only have 2 or 3 kids at a table. I like this because then they will help your child even more with what they need help on.They also help with homework. They have a really good math, science and ELA program. I really recommend you to put your child in this program if your child is struggling.

2013-11-11My daughter was enrolled in Sylvan Learning Center at the Flushing location for a couple of weeks during her 7th grade. She was an A student who was suddenly having some difficulty with Science. Her grades had plummeted to 70s. Sylvan came highly recommended from a friend, who at the time was sending her kids for SAT prep. Although Science was not a specific subject that Sylvan focused on, they were able to introduce study skills that helped with my daughter getting back on track with Science. My daughter was in a group size of 2-3 kids to one tutor and at the end of 20+ sessions, she was able to finish 7th grade with her Science average back in the 90s. Adam Ratner and the staff were very pleasant, professional and were really flexible when working out the schedule. They treated our situation just as important as it was to us. I am writing this review because like so many parents, we worry about getting the right people to touch on our childrens education...Sylvan is the place!

2017-11-07Great programs and teachers! My son enjoys every hour there. Most of all, the program works well. My sons reading comprehension has improved a lot and moved to above his grade level. He is now working on his writing. I strongly recommend Sylvan!
