Tapas in a very atmospheric settingLovely little restaurant we had been cutting about all day and arrived at Tia Pol tired and a bit early but our waiter was extremely nice and seated us without fuss we ordered wine and several dishes but realised we had outstretched ourself and asked if we could have the wine to go the gave us it in a sealed wine bag I would have loved to have booked this little gem a bit earlier in the day to serve it justice no photos time afraid as I smidgen dark on that occasion
The food was good, it is an indoor place, not open roof. We ordered bunch of stuff, fried fish, steam fish, shrimps, lamb skewers, etc for the table. Would easily need two dished to fill even a small appetite. It is not definitely, you order one dish and you will be full, as i got deceived with the images, thinking portions are huge. I loved the shrimps broth, I has like 15-20 shrimps in it.
Enthusiastic 5 stars! We tried just about everything, but the highlights were the fried paprika garbanzo beans, grilled salted peppers, chorizo, fried fish with lemon, and a special grilled flank steak over potato and spring onion. Food came out perfectly paced, things were reasonably priced, waiter was both funny and attentive. Appreciated that we accidentally made a reservation for outdoors but they found space for us in the back room. Cool ambience, noise level was totally fine at 8 pm on a Saturday night.
This is my new favorite place! Tía Pol was the best choice to catch up with a friend over a glass of cava and cheese plates. We tried a few tapas and we enjoyed every bite. I think our favorite was definitely the plato de quesos variados. They pair the cheese with bread and raisins or olives. We also got a bottle of cava rosé which was so worth the price and just went well with everything. Ive been telling everyone about Tía Pol and will be dining there again, loved it!
Creative Tapas dishes that are delicious! The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to offering suggestions. Back again on 10/17/18 had a bottle of Ostatu @$50, the Fideua @$20, Gambas Ajillo @$13, Lg Croq jamon @$8 and small Montadito @$4. Excellent meal!Visited 8/23/18 we ordered the Large Montadito @$8.00, Ensalada de Pulpo @$14.00, Fideua Con Costilla ( toasted short noodles mixed with arugula, asparagus and cherry tomatoes then topped with cockles and braised short rib. The sauce is a mixture of corn stock, garlic, butter and braising liquid. Fabulous dish!) @$28.00. Every dish was pure delight! A bottle of red Navaherrero @$42.00. Great neighborhood restaurant! Make reservations as the space is small. Arturo was our waiter and we just loved him! Back again after Rona 2020 on 9/16/20 & 9/19/20. Food is as good as ever.
The tapas were melt in your mouth! Fast service and attentive servers made it a wonderful evening for my buddy visiting from SF. They also gave us useful suggestions to get bread with the scallops to scoop up the sauce and it was heavenly. We got lamb chops, scallops, jamon, deviled eggs, trout and more stuff I lost count. All food came out super quick too. My buddy tried the sangria which was also delicious.
Probably one of the best tapas places in Manhattan. All of them were very tasty and made with fresh food. They even had squid with ink which Ive never seen it before in the U.S. Good selection of wines too. They are pricey albeit in line with NYC prices. Recommended, Ill be back.
Update: Went there again 9/25/21 with a party of six. Still excellent. we had practically every tapa and desert on the menu and everything is well prepared and tasty. Even though the place was packed, service was accommodating as it could be especially with the nationwide restaurant staff shortage. Highly recommend. If I could give it six stars I would. This a true tapas restaurant with about three dozen choices. We had a sliced steak dish with delicious tomatoes, batatas bravas, shrimp in garlic sauce, spanish potato omelette, a crunchy artichoke salad, and an almond cake dessert. The service is impeccable and they bend over backwards to make things just as you want them, Berrett, our server, could not have been nicer or more knowledgeable. Very nice outdoor seating available. A real gem. We will be back.
Tiny place. In summer, sit at the bar. The tables in back have no windows or air-conditioning and the heat was pretty bad.The service was good. The small plates all delicious. But really tiny portions for the price. And I really wish a place that charges this much would make the effort to put 4 items on the plate instead of 3 when there are 4 patrons sharing. Just basic etiquette. That said, the food was as good as could be. This would be an amazing place if the portions were larger and the atmosphere more pleasant. For food, they get 5 stars, but a poor value for the money and atmosphere.
My favorite restaurant in Chelsea. Their bechamel croquetas are to die for, the bravas are addicting and their special gazpacho I could eat daily. The staff is attentive and personable and they make sure your glass is full aslong as your are ready for, una mas. This place makes me thirsty and hungry and sometimes I wish I was closer so I could go daily! Cheers to Tia Pol for being a quintessential neighborhood spot, always welcoming you with that warm feeling you long for. Con mucho amor, para todo que ofreces!!! Until next time! Hope to see you soon friends!
Its a beautiful, small space that really feels intimate. The food is perfect. My wife is Catalan and we do the tour of Spanish restaurants in the city. Usually she lets me pick a few plates, but this time she said she couldnt spare any because they all seemed so good. There is a lot of fish, especially anchovies and everything is delicious. The bread with tomatoes is a pretty simple dish, but really really done well here.
I love this place! They give fantastic dishes, their menu is rich, The cook in that place is a real authority in the kitchen, I love a lot eating all their food. The dishes are consistently tasty, the service towards the visitors is efficient. I visit often this place and I not even once was disappointed. Highly recommended.
Cute tapas spot with a nice intimate vibe. Most of the people here seemed to be a date so would not recommend for groups larger than 4 or 5. Since this place is small, reservations are recommended. The food here was pretty good, especially the steak and garlic shrimp.
Good quality of food. Plates are too small for what you pay for similar restaurants in the area and similar Spanish restaurants. Their menu lacks churros as a dessert. They include a mandatory 18% tip (N), and we were only a group of 4. They didnt tell this ahead neither the waiter gave us a heads-up when handing the bill.Id not come back again, and the trick of the tip was sneaky.
Between the service, the atmosphere and the food, I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. Truly a great and consistent experience every time I go. Whether I am dining alone, entertaining a client, or celebrating with friends- Tia Pol is my go-to West Chelsea spot (they also have the best Flan in NYC)
A charming and authentic Spanish wine bar in West Chelsea. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful (and in no way snobby). The wine list has a great bottle selection, but the by the glass options are limited. The wine is pricey - but you get what you pay for and its worth it. Tip: arrive around 5/6 on a weeknight, by about 7:30 - the place was packed.
I came here with coworkers and we reserved the room in the back. It was a standing space with tables for food and drinks as well as a small corner to hang clothes and put belongings. The space was dimly lit and there was quiet music playing, and the ambiance was pleasant. We got patatas bravas (potatoes with aioli), pimientos estilo gernika (blistered green peppers with sea salt), gambas al ajillo (shrimp in olive oil with garlic and chili), montadito de crema de habitas con manchego (fava beans with manchego cheese and parsley), some sort of croquette (probably croquette of the day as there wasnt any meat inside), piquillos rellenos de pisto (stuffed peppers with squash, eggplant, tomato, and creamy sheep’s milk cheese), pan con tomate (grilled and garlic-rubbed baguette with tomato - for some reason they didnt serve us the three sauces), and some bread with meat, bell pepper, and cheese on top. It was a great spread of food, and the food was tasty but not amazing. The potatoes tasted deep-fried, and they were a bit hard. The shrimp and fava beans bread couldve had more flavor. I liked the stuffed bell pepper, freshly fried croquettes, and shishito peppers. The tomato bread was a bit hard and the sauce on top wasnt super delicious as it was super garlicky and could definitely have gone with more tomato spread. Service was good as we got checked up on for drinks and food, and we had a good time there. Food is definitely on the expensive side though.
Came here with three friends. The waiter read off five specials, and we decided to throw caution to the wind and split all the specials between the four of us. It was the best decision we could have made. As a result, I cant speak to any items on the regular menu, but if the specials that night reflected the quality of the overall food, this is a restaurant worth going to again and again.
Where do I start!? I would give this place 6 stars if I could. The tapas are ALL AMAZING, in particular the Spanish omelette, ham, and squid ink risotto. Their sangria is the bar by which Ill judge any drink by a similar name. The staff is on point, and the whole vibe is chill. Great for dates, small groups, and long lunches.
The food was good, but the service was just okay. The restaurant was crowded, and our table was in front of a large table that was obnoxiously loud. It was very obvious we were uncomfortable and the servers did nothing- paid zero attention to us. The table runners literally dropped the food on the tables and ran not providing as much as a spoon to serve the food. I have a friend and her mother visiting from Costa Rica. We literally ate and ran... Never again... I’ll stick to Boqueria Restaurant excellent food and service consistently.
Great spot to come with friends and try lots of small plates together. Surprisingly large variety of options so there will be something for everyone. That said, nothing here blew me away; there are better tapas places in New York and even within a few blocks of Tía Pol. The service is also standard (aka lacking) for an NYC hot spot. You feel like you are inconveniencing your server when you ask them for anything after they have taken your order. The restaurant itself is also very small and tight, so be prepared to be bumping into people.
Great food, great service, fun atmosphere. And everyone else must think so because whenever I go its crowded and noisy! But that shouldnt stop you from trying it out. Went with a group, tried half the menu, not a dud in the bunch. That can add up, so if youre on a budget dont let your eyes be bigger than your belly!
I’ve been going here for the past few years. While the food is good (a bit small for the price you pay), the service has always been a hit or miss! Not a nice feeling when you’re spending $200 or more for dinner for two.Yesterday however was the last nail on the coffin for the place in my book. I can’t believe a hostess would blatantly discriminate a pregnant woman at 34 weeks for asking to be moved from a table without back support to another. It was almost as if I asked her for something personal!! She made no effort to accommodate this request. When my husband told her we couldn’t stay since there’s no way they can accommodate us, he asked if she could suggest another place around there we could go instead. She told him verbatim “try the diner!”. I can’t help but wonder why she said the diner when there’s a Japanese place next door and lots of other places around. It’s not like Tai pol is a diner type food! Simply unprofessional and sadly ruined our date night before baby #2 came.
Its difficult to find a good Spanish food place but this one is definitely top notch. Best dishes are the tortilla, patatas bravas, oysters, jamón plate. The special of the day was great too and they give you sangría, and white sangría in the summer. Ambiance is perfect for a date, not too quiet and cozy. Highly recommend it.
The tapas are great, and the Spanish red wines are irresistible. The place is great for a drink after visiting the galleries downtown, or a fun party.Service at the bar is always so hospitable, you can taste everything, and be taught about the various wines.Tapas which I like: garbanzos fritos, which are fried chickpeas, a real surprise, creamy inside and very crisp outside; and the fried leche - made of balls of Basque custard filled with drunken cherries, which is a fun twist on classical custard.
They have the Best Tapas in the area overall ... Only one other place tops tia pol... Great Selection of Wines and moderately priced menu, Specials are always good ... and the best Neighborhood bar in the area next to HalfKing. The Potato 🥔 Bravas or Brevas are a must and they have a good selection of Sherry Wines. Good staff.

Planned on going to Izakaya Ten first but they were closed for lunch...which is how we discovered this place right next door! I had read some good reviews of them in the past and they did not disappoint. The bartenders knowledge of the many different varieties of Spanish wine was great. And, there are cold Estrellas if youd like a beer instead. We sat up front at the bar in that lazy time between lunch and dinner and shared a few good plates of food (anchovies, peppers, etc.) while watching the world go by...
Yummy yummy yummy! Tia Pol is great. The service is warm and welcoming, the options are a plenty, and the food is fabulous.Ive heard from others that their sangria is really good, but did not have a chance to sample it myself.I will say that of all their offerings, my favorite was the croquetas de jamón y croqueta del día. Its basically a little packet of ham wrapped around manchego cheese and artichoke heart - so its savory and creamy on the inside and the ham is delicious.Additionally, would highly recommend the pan con tomate y tres salsas. This is basically a crostini, but elevated. The bread is buttery and salty and amazing, and the spreads are unbelievable.Everything else is really good, although Id stay away from the gambas al ajillo and patatas bravas. Even though theyre two of my favorite tapas dishes, they werent executed super well at tia pol. They patatas were a little too goopy with the sauce (and the sauce was a little to mayonnaise-y for my taste), and the gambas were a touch overcooked and dry.Overall, this is a great place, for a great value, with wonderful service. Ill definitely be back.
Though its been open for years, this Chelsea small plates seems totally fresh. Order some jamon and tomato bread and scarf it with one of the many affordable wines that they have on the menu. The narrow space is really no frills - its clearly not going to win any decor awards - but there is a convivial vibe and the prices are cheap. I try to stop by anytime Im in the hood - say, after a walk down the High Line.
Was once our favorite inexpensive meal in NY. One and only time we went after the chefs (Alexandra Raij) departure, we were very disappointed to the point of not wanting to return. The croquettes, which were a signature dish were sent out semi-frozen in the middle and then re-sent out burnt! Food and service rating reflect our last visit
Made a reservation - turns its a teeny tiny place. Our party was several minutes late so they gave our table away and said wed have to wait 15 minutes. An hour later, they come and find us to tell us that it would be another hour. Um no thanks. Better pick a place that doesnt feel like an overcrowded closet where your eardrums are liable to burst from the ridiculous amount of noise they manage to generate.
No one on earth can beat this place for a hung-over Sunday brunch: first theyll hit you with strong coffee, then theyll bring on double-piggy Spanish eggs, pork, peppers and onions. They finish you off with three kinds of sherry and churros dipped in chocolate. New Yorks finest hospital.
Dinner on Monday Feb.10 2014.: pockets of jamon had no taste othwr than being slightly salty, jamon was definitely not the real thing you get in a good place in Spain. Same for scallops - no taste at all. This is what happens wwhen we n food is laden with preservatives - it loses its flavor. Vegetable s were better. The bed of Brussels sprouts on which the scallops were served was tasty. Wondering if this was the monday night phenomenon when restaurants cook fron ingredients no longer fresh which were left over from the weekend. Even if so this is not an excuse as the prices were not reduced for th is subpar food. Sangria tested good and had very little alcohol which for me was a plus but others may feel let down. Not returning to tia pol.
Worst ever..didnt even get a chance to try the food..the rudness of the staff was enough to drive me out...my friend and i arrived at 5:57pm where there was around 5 empty tables, the hostess said i can give u a table only if u leave before 8pm then she the dark table by the kitchen door to give to us. When we asked to move as we could hardly read anything off the menu the waiter said ok will give u another table but u gotta leave by 7...i said no it is fine we will go so his brilliant answer was cool by me...just incase if u dont know it is my tips that make up the biggest chunk of yr Fxxxx salary by the end of the month.

2022-04-06Unpretentious, authentic tapas that celebrates the ingredients with simple flavors. Highly recommend the ham croquettes, lamb screwer, veal tongue, the signature flan, and whatever’s on their daily specials list. Great service and cozy ambiance. Come early for lovely walk-in bar seats.

2021-09-25Everything was good, but the calamari in the ink sauce were so tender, and the lamb so flavorful. The croquettes smooth. Just fantastic all around.

2022-06-06Incredible food & drinks! We stopped in at random and what a fortuitous stop it was. Every dish we ordered got better and better. The flavor profiles that were put together were amazing. Our server (Traver) was attentive, courteous, and provided great suggestions. Our drinks/cocktails were refreshing and tasty. I will 100% visit Tia Pol again. 10/10 tapas bar.

2022-06-30A delicious tapas menu. Good variety to choose from. We ordered croquetas, deviled eggs, poboy , skewers and the squid ink calamari with rice. All were delicious. Each one was more impressive than the next. Filled with flavor and freshness. We ate outside and had ordered sangria too. They also have a dessert menu. We ordered their savory flan. Everyone was very hospitable. Looking forward to visiting again soon . Highly recommend it.

2019-10-13Super cozy Spanish tapas place in Chelsea. Loved everything I’ve tried here: kale salad with artichoke and white asparagus, tomato salad with tuna, chicken liver, and so on. Would love to come back!
