I am not one to complain but the service here was absolutely TERRIBLE! The Sangria pitcher barely had any alcohol in it. We got a hookah which was okay as well but in the whole time we were their no one came to change the coals, so the hookah died out fast. And the cherry on top of the that was the service was the absolute worst. Our server dropped off our drinks and never checked up on us, meanwhile the servers that had the tables around us were being checked up on and asked if they needed anything. We had to ask another sever to get us our check, and on they add 20% automatic gratuity which doesn’t make sense cuz at the bottom of the check it says suggested tip and the percentages. The service barely deserved 10% Tbh. I ended up paying around $100 for hookah that barely lasted and sangria that tasted really watered down. We waited for the sever to come take check which she never did so i had to go give it to her myself of course! To which she gave me the wrong change so i had to go to her again to get the right amount. SO DISAPPOINTED!
Absolutely love this place! The staff is extremely friendly. We went there to sample Moroccan food before going to Morocco with our students (teachers here) and they had so many great contacts and recommendations for us. The food was phenomenal. Although it was quiet since it was a weird time on a Monday, we had an amazing time. Thanks so much and cant wait to see you again soon.
Ordered the Chicken and veggie Tagine. It tasted fantastic despite burning my mouth for the first ten minutes. The lentil tapenade is excellent. The atmosphere is nice, although its cold during the winter. There was good music in all different languages. They have a limited alcohol list.
As soon as my wife and I walked in we immediately felt we were going to have some good drinks and a great hookah based off the decor and the atmosphere but unfortunately we were wrong. I understand we are in New York but $35 for a Hookah Is outrageous. The drinks were priced like every location we been too but when we received our drinks they were not topped off and were just okay. The Hookah had a burnt taste in less than five minutes so we asked to swap out the flavors which they did with no issue. Once they replaced it with a different flavor it too had a burnt taste in less than fifteen minutes. Alot of money spent but hardly any satisfaction.
Outstanding, delicious food! We had two tagines, one couscous, and the bastilla. Every single dish was delectable with a wonderful combinations of flavors. We probably had the best table in the place, right by the front door. The service was friendly and helpful. Strongly recommend.
We came with a Party of Five, and it took a little bit of time to even get water. We had a waitress who took our order mentally, and proceeded to get four out of five orders incorrect. Our dishes were brought out one at a time with as much as 30 minutes between them. It all, it took an hour and a half to get everyone served. The waitress was argumentative and full of excuses as to why she got the orders incorrect. The bread was very Bland, and as someone with culinary experience I can tell you the reason was they forgot the salt in the recipe. As a Moroccan, I can tell you that this is not at all a good example of our Hospitality or culinary arts. The only reason I am giving them two stars is that the manager served us a complimentary shisha, which is $40 on their menu. Not exactly a very Moroccan gesture, but it was a well received effort. The music was absolutely all over the place from Latin to rap to Modern.
Marisa was great! I had last minute birthday reservations for a party of 15; Marisa was more than welcoming and hosted us. She and Tagine were great. We all had a memorable time. I was so happy with her hospitality and she gave the birthday girl a bottle of wine as a gift on the house. Great food, service and belly dancing!!! We will be returning!
The food was very good. Lamb chicken and vegan. The staff was friendly, presentation was nice, they were good at what you would expect. The wine we ordered was really poor - undrinkable- but the sangria was good and mixing them saved the wine.Service was good but very staggered for a group of 16. However thats a lot of clay ovens!! Fortunately the plates are so hot that it didnt matter - the clay plates keep your food hot a long time!
The food is a little pricey but this is to be expected given the location. The service was phenomenal and the owner made us feel like we were right back in Morocco again. His personal service made the meal a hundred times more enjoyable. Come here for a long and relaxing meal, not a quick bite in a rush.
Such a cute place. Very accommodating. The food is not the best and the tagines which usually includes plenty of sides in other places only bring bread here. This place is amazing for drinks, hookah and appetizers. The entertainment is great. Definitely make this your late night spot after dinner.
The hookah was nice, but I disliked everything else about this place, in particular, the attitude of the servers. The wine menu has no prices, and we had to ask for the price of the bottles. However, after we had purchased a bottle, they announced that the price was actually higher than they had said initially. This in my opinion is very bad etiquette. The music was too loud and the service very careless, although there were only two tables with customers. The final bill includes a gratuity of 20% and they ask for tips on top of that.
This places is a hidden gem in Manhattan. The vibe of the place, the drinks and also they got live music from different parts of the world. I was lucky to be in a Turkish music performance with belly dancers. It was amazing. If you have the chance to come I would recommend it.
- as a server myself, I can tell you that our server provided us with the most appalling services I have ever received in my entire life. She may be new though. Didnt seem like it though-complimentary bread came 15 minutes after we had sat down. She didn’t even ask us what drinks we wanted--deplorable decor.- we were escorted to the back of the restaurant where there is no lightning. Legit had to open my iPhone flashlight on to eat my dinner.-when the food came, it spilled while she was trying to lower it to the table. It was an accident, but she didn’t even come back to clean it up.-food was extremely good.-
I am a very frequent customer at this establisment and enjoyed my time here and their service. Unfortunately I had a very horrible experience last night involving the manager and waitress/bartender Marisa. I asked for a brand new hookah several times. Instead she opted to just change the charcoal and put it on another hookah that was left behind at the bar. When it came time for the bill she mentioned about the brand new hookah that was brought out to me when it fact it wasn’t even touched. She demanded for me to pay for it. If I refused I was no longer welcomed at their establishment. The way this was handled was done poorly. I even suggested to rewind the tapes but they did not want to. I hope other customers don’t experience what I experienced last night and get what they ask for.
This place was AMAZING! a group of my friends went there yesterday night before heading back to Boston in the morning and we had a blast! The workers were delightful, the music was great and the atmosphere was just wonderful. They treated us like we were at home and checked on us every second to see if we were okay. Being that were in our early 20s its well known that we go clubbing a lot but this place was so much better than that and that says a lot! Id recommend this place to a lot of my friends.
Drinks are good, food is good. with a fun group. The experience is good! Has potential to be a 5 start place with just a little bit of tweaks.Hookah left a bit more to be desired and the place could do with some maintenance .So guys, you have your place for tonight., spend some money here.( Inquire if they have a show going on). It will be worth it.
I came in by myself on a Monday afternoon and was greeted by Hamid, the owner and chef of the restaurant. He suggested their homemade hummus as an appetizer and the chicken miezel as my main dish. IT was PHENOMENAL. The chicken was extremely tender and juicy and the hummus was smooth and rich. I cannot wait to come back for dinner. 5 STARS!!
The restaurant is down a couple stairs off 38th. As with most restaurants in the city, it looks small but is very long inside. It was a little awkward experience at first as I was the only person in the restaurant. There was a family when I first came in, but they left after a few minutes. The food on the menu all sounded fantastic. I asked the server for suggestions and settled on an olive platter appetizer and the beef short ribs tagine. The ribs were not as flavorful as I expected, but still very tender and very good. There were different kinds of squash and potatoes also in the pot. This may not be the best place if you are in a hurry. They do take their time serving you, but not necessarily in a bad way. I did arrive pretty late for dinner. There is a bar and there was a band that started playing around 10:30 as I was leaving.
The first thing that you notice when you look at the reviews for this restaurant is that they are either great or terrible. This is perplexing to me because my experience was great. I have read reviews that heavily criticized the service but I can say that this was some of the best service that I have had in a long time. We had a pleasant, attentive and well informed server. And it looked like others were getting good service as well. I read a review claiming that a gratuity was automatically added; that was not the case for us. The food was delicious, unusual, and reasonably priced. They brought out some very tasty complimentary bread with interesting sauces to dip it into. And we got some complimentary tea after dinner. How could anyone complain!?We went on Friday night and it turns out that this is the best night to go because of all of the entertainment that they offer. They had a great four piece band that played Mediterranean style music. It was very entertaining and professionally done even though the venue was small and cozy. Then they brought in belly dancers who were entertaining and interesting. The decor is exotic. They advertise entertainment at 8:00 but it was about 9:00 before the dancing started. I would suggest eating at 8:00 so you can stake out a good table and then hang around afterwards to drink and watch the show. It was not very crowded there and most of the seats in the front room had a good view of the dancing. Some patrons got up to dance with the performers. It was fun! There are a few things that people should know however. They had a male belly dancer who was obviously gay. This was not of concern for us and we found him to be an excellent dancer but if you were offended by that kind of thing you should know that it does occur here. Also, there are people around you smoking hookah. I am a non-smoker but even so this didn’t bother me. In fact we thought it smelled kind of good sometimes. We were visiting New York for the week and I think it would be shameful and pathetic if you came here and ate at places like Bubba Gump’s or Applebee’s. If you really want to experience the local culture, then you should eat at places like this. It was one of the highlights of our trip. Most of the people there looked like locals, so tourists either haven’t heard about this or are leery about going. Either way, it’s their loss.
The place is awful. I would be ashamed to call this food Moroccan. The decor is nasty and filthy. Save your money and go to McDonalds! The place is terribly cheesy and does not capture the true essence of Morocco. As well, we ordered tea, but we had to send it back 3 times because it tasted like water. Even the third time, the tea tasted disgusting. Our main dishes were 2 tagines. The meat was tender, however, the sauce was very fatty and tasteless (it even started to harden due to how much lard there was!). Oh and remind me again, since when does Moroccan cuisine cook with wine? Never. In conclusion, this place sucks! Defamation to the Moroccan cuisine and culture.
The place is nice, very dark for a restaurant (sometimes you cant see everything on your plate). We had a bad experience there. The place is so nice, everything looks good but the bad smell that came from a waitress was disgusting. Were sure that this guy doesnt take a shower in a few weeks. If the waitress smell like that and hes part of the presentation of the restaurant we cant imagine how the kitchen staff will be.
This place doesn’t even deserve 1 star. Really, if you are considering going.. DON’T! I have never seen such a messy and unprofessional place in NYC. The place is a bit dodgy; when we arrived the waitress was unfriendly... it took a while to take our order, when she finally did she didn’t take notes. Almost an hour later they brought some food, that it wasn’t what we ordered; we told her, 10 min later she took it off and literally served it to the next table!!As a highlight, the waitress asked us to cancel the reservation we made on OpenTable, as they were going to get charged $5 per person.. first time i hear a restaurant ask for something like this... anyways, Another half hour passed and finally they brought our food, from the 4 dishes we ordered one was NOT what we ordered. We didn’t even bother to change it, as probably was going to take another hour. The food was overcooked; a vegetable tagine the bottom was burned.Maybe the only good thing this place has was the belly dancer.. but is not worth the visit! This is a pricy, terrible service, terrible food place.. again, I’m still shocked that a place like this operates in NYC!
Hamid is the best!!! The food was awesome!! The presentation was great as well with steaming clay pyramid shaped serving dishes. Nice dark atmosphere with pillows and cushions, very comfortable. They had great middle eastern / Bollywood style music. We were visiting from Florida where morrocan food is nonexistent. We had such a great time. I wish I could give 10 stars! Thanks so much Hamid for a great night!
I gave it three stars because of the unfriendliness of the staff. They seemed uninterested. This was my first time there, I told them the same, but the staff was busy in people who they knew already to be regular customers. Plus they are way OVERPRICEDThe food was good. The tagine was great. Tasted awesome. They give bread with it and it was very fresh as well.
My fiancee and I had an excellent time at Tagine. The food was delicious; we shared a maaquda appetizer, which were these little fried potato dumplings with a delicious sauce that I suspect was chickpea-based. When it took a little longer than they preferred, they brought out some olive in charmoula to tide us over - we hadnt even commented on the time. The lamb casablanca practically fell off the bone, the bastilla was rich and beautiful, and the baklava was not the Greek version I was used to, but a more subtle and flavorful version without being overly sweet.Overall, it was a great experience. I would certainly agree with all the comments that this is definitely a place to sit and take your time , which is in keeping with the Mediterranean culture and what it takes to cook a proper tagine. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and accommodating - we had one young lady who was clearly our server, but at one point my fiancee commented that it felt like we had three because everyone was so attentive.
This place is beyond horrible. We went for the experience and the atmosphere, but the service was so bad that made me wonder how the hell is this place still operating!! The waitresses are so slow and rude. It took them forever to attend to our table and we kept waving for them to come and as if they are blind they pass by us like they never saw us. When we finally got service, my girlfriend asked for a drink and I asked for water as I want to order dinner. The waitress loudly and with a surprised tone said Just water!!. Of course after that they ignored us for another half hour until we had to get help from some manager (older lady who was checking on table). IN addition to all that there was some sort of unpleasant smell around the place! And the waitresses had oily hair and appeared unhygienic! At the end I understood why they dont care about good service. Because 18%tip already included in the bill and they have the gut to ask for additional tip! To make it worse; for one meal that we shared and one drink we paid over $80!! Really..
If you are looking for an authentic Moroccan cuisine in a welcoming place then this is the place to be. their Lamb Tagine (that I had) was exquisite not to forget the freshly home-made bread. and they have belly dancers almost every day and a variety of live music.I would highly recommend this place.
WOW! This place was NOT what I expected and surpassed every expectation for the night. The food was to die for - so flavorful and many vegetarian and gluten free options and lots of varieties! There was live music and belly dancing, and very attentive wait staff. I cannot wait to go back. The burek and fried veggie balls will be on my craving list forever.
The place is cool and hookah was nice. But when we took the bill, we saw 20% of grattitude added to the price and plus they were still expecting for the tip. Very expensive and bad service. If you are just looking for hookah, there are nicer places. I would suggest to check other places first.
Don’t go to this place! Worst service ever and the quality of food was terrible. We ordered a lamb tagine and the meat was served cold. We mentioned this to the server and they still charged us despite having complained and left most of the dish untouched! My brother also had a very strong stomachache followed by nausea. If you care about your health, please avoid this restaurant.
Disappointed. When we got in the atmosphere was great and we were excited. However thats where it ended. Service was very slow, it took almost 30 minutes and asking twice to get the drinks we ordered. Additionally food was slower, the spicy chicken tangine was good the other spring lamb dish was kind of bland. Dessert was bland as well. What annoyed me the most was they automatically added a 20% gratiuity to the bill despite the slow service. Also there was an $8 per person charge for entertainment. The entertainment was great, but i just wished they had would have been upfront about that charge. It was not mentioned any where nor where we informed upon seating and ordering.Overall it was an ok experience, but definitlely not worth what it cost.
Im not sure what the actual job of the girl who waited our table usually is, but I dont think it was waiting tables. She spilled beer and didnt ever clean it up. She doesnt know what a pastry is and that a tagine isnt one. She offered us extra bread and then didnt bring any bread at all with the appetizer. Maybe she dances well. Maybe theres another business in the back. Can someone check on her? Is she okay? Maybe its just not really supposed to be open at 3:30pm. The lamb entrees werent bad. Star for that.
The first thing you notice on entering this hidden jewel is the atmosphere of welcome and calm. The owner greets everyone with sincere pleasure. The feel of the place is Morocco. Then you smell the food cooking.First, order the sampler of three appetizers which are served with warm bread and harissa. Then pick any of the tagines to share. I would recommend the lamb meatballs. The food is brought out smelling divine. Hot steamy and sizzling. Absolutely delicious. Make sure you gst some extra bread to soak up the sauce.A wonderful meal served by remarkably friendly people.Go now!
First time i was here the staff was great. Very friendly. But today they had a small private party of 20 people. Although 80% of the tables were still empty we didnt get good service at all. And the lady i assume is the owner was very unfriendly. I guess they dont care about 2 customers when there are more than 10 in the restaurant.
!!!Take this advice before you enter!!!!1: you will waist your money.2: you will receive something you didn’t order so they can make extra money. And when you’ll say didn’t ask for it, they will pretend is just mistake. I got Hookah even didn’t ask for it.3: The food was the most expensive and disgusting. The Tajin was made by Soup (Harrira) didn’t how they got this recipe.4: the house man or the boss or whoever was unpleasant unprofessional.5: Last not least they charge me 18% of the tab as tip, didn’t see it.The real Moroccan food is way better then your food. Quit Quit.Just a friendlier advice DON’T EAT in that restaurant.
My experience at Tagine was 100% amazing.I took my Algerian girlfriend there for dinner. The atmosphere was so welcoming. The table next to us was also very pleased. It was her birthday and they even sang Happy Birthday Moroccan style. The Chicken Cous-Cous was delicious especially with the chermoula and bread.I would definitely recommend a friend to dine here.I will be back on my birthday to try more dishes.
Tagine is by far, the most wonderfully welcoming experience I have had in NYC. Every time I visit, I feel like Im part of the family, greeted with enthusiasm and charm, taken care of, and at home. The food is heart warming and delicious and the all night dance party and hooka takes me back in time to the ways in which we were able to sit back, relax, and lose all track of time. And wonderful place to be, wont you say? So bring your caravan by for a night to remember and dont forget to throw your cares away to the desert winds...
Good decoration, the atmosphere feels like you in Marrakech , COUSCOUS is GREAT ,Worth the 26$ priceIm upset for two reasons first they put a middle Eastern music instead of Berber Moroccan North African music its a shame ,since the owner Hamid is a Berber himself !!Second , their wines are overpriced , I had one glass of red wine ( really cheap taste ) they charged me 16$ for it ( honestly 4$ is the max I can pay for such cheap wine ).
Great cous cous royale. Very friendly owner and manager. Nice atmosphere. Used to be on 9th several years ago and was a good place then but a little run down maybe. The location now is much nicer and theyve improved the presentation on the food a lot as well. Some good vegetarian and vegan options too.
Tagines is one of those places that you can just go to and chill out and have a GUARANTEED GOOD TIME! The crowd is always fun loving and the ambiance is out of this world. It like...when you walk in, you are no longer in the rat race of NYC!If you love to be entertained, you will love love love Tagines! They have live music and dancers all the time! The bands that play there are extremely talented and cater to all different types .... so good to finally have a diverse place. There are super beautiful Belly Dancers that really know how to WOW a crowd and they are also very engaging beauties! And OHHH the costumes!!!An enchanting night is not without good food! I have not heard anything bad about ANY menu item! Close your eyes and put your finger on an item...its gonna be good! As a dancer, I have only had appetizers, but even those were phenomenal!! This was my first taste of fine Moroccan dining and I love love it to pieces!Taginess is easy to get to, and parking is free after 7pm. However if you drive, still check those tricky signs ;-. Anyway, it is an eclectic neighborhood and very inviting!!I hope to be there soon!**hearts**
I wonder how they hire their waiters and employees cuz its the best staff ive ever met. More than friendly, a family for everyone whos going to this place even the first day. They serve a very traditionnal best cuisine in the world(Moroccan and North African food). Ive been in too many places in new York but this place is my favorite. The best, the most friendly that I have to recommand to all Americans and tourists in new York. God bless tagine first and America second.
As a native New Yorker, Ive eaten everywhere...Ive sampled Cuisines from ALL cultures...looking for a taste of Moroccan? Tagine stands ALONE!...Its one of the very few restaurants that leaves me with the desire to keep coming back for more...The Menu is out of this world...It always takes me so long to decide what to order because the cuisine is outstanding!...I intend to sample EVERYTHING on the menu...the food is just that fabulous...Theres a variety of evening entertainment as you dine...Musicians from all cultures, Professional Belly Dancers, and the ambiance is just to die for...Its very relaxing as you dine as well, you have the option of sitting on various styles of soft couches that one just melts into...the staff is exceptionally courteous...everything about this place is just mesmerizing...I LOVE IT!......~ Lou Galarza
I just had a wonderful dinner for the first time at Tagine! Our server Agnes was so attentive, and the chef made it feel like such a personal and welcoming experience, offering us recommendations and explaining the traditional Moroccan foods to us. I had the lamb tagine kefka, which was so savory and delicious, and for dessert the sweet honey letters. For drinks, Id recommend the desert sunset if you like screwdrivers or mimosas! Be sure to ask for the mint tea to finish things off; its the perfect way to end a meal.Ill definitely be returning!
Very poor service. Went there for dinner by myself.Ended up waiting for the server for about 10 minutes. Besides not bringing menu, they didn’t even pour water into my glass. They started twisting around new table of 5-6 people. After being ignored I just left. I guess they didn’t even notice how i left or they didn’t care. I don’t recommend this restaurant to anyone where they treat you as if you are worthless.
I love this place the food and atmosphere, marissa treats her guest like royalty ,Ive had many birthday parties there and Ive recommend a lot of ppl and they loved it.the food the belly dancing and hookah makes you feel as if your in morrocco so come down and enjoy you wont regret it ❤💋
Excellent Morrocan Restaurant. After spending a day in the city with my family I invited them to have dinner at Tagine, for my family this was their first time eating at a Morrocan restaurant...They loved the food, the ambiance and the great entertainment!!! I order Chicken Tagine, it was so delicious.and the House Salad and bread were yummy!! We will definitely go back.
I have been in new york for the whole week... And i have been dinning eveeywhere till tonight tagine restau is exceptional... Excellent service staff qent beyond the best... I will keep coming ... Owners really care about their customers... Prices in new york is really cheap compared to other places i have been to thank you tagine and thanks to Sabina and Sinia.
VERYYYYY LAID BACK, FEELS ALMOST LIKE THEY ARE DOING YOU A FAVOR IN GETTING SERVICE FOR YOU. IT HONESTLY FELT A LITTLE ICKY IN THERE, THE SOFAS AND PILLOWS LOOKED DINGY. THE RESTROOM WAS ALSO VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AS FAR AS CLEANLINESS. FOOD: WE ORDERED A LAMB LEG IN WHAT LOOKS TO BE LIKE A CLAY VOLCANO (LOL) WHICH WAS REALLY GOOD, WE ALSO ORDERED A POTATO APPETIZER, DONT RECALL THE NAME, WHICH WAS REALLY GOOD. TEA WAS GOOD TOO. WOULD I GO BACK, PROBABLY NOT.
Walked in at 4;10 and they tell me it’s closed .. but the website says 5 am ... hostess is yelling at me from the bar we are closed but signs are on and door says yes we are open .. boycott this place and let them shut down .. worst customer service ever .. drive from Boston tonight and only this place showed up as being open until 5 am and yet they lie .. rude liers who were just angry

2020-11-29This was the best morrocon food we have ever had! A very dramatic serving of sizzling beef and lamb stew poured by the Chef in earthen pots at table made for a very memorable Thanksgiving shot. Special shot out to the gracious host!Making plans already to be back here again.

2018-12-24Very disappointed. Came in for a hookah and a chill atmosphere. The decor was cute (albeit a bit dirty so I chose not to eat there), so I was initially excited. But the hookah was extremely overpriced and had limited flavor options. They didnt pack the shisha well either, it burned within minutes. For the price (which I would have willing paid), I expected a really nice hookah. But it was the basic one with no fruit bowl or ice hose, not worth $20 much less the $35 I paid.I also ordered a drink which was delivered half full and watered down. The picture I attached is how the drink was given to me. After having to send back the hookah I was too annoyed to bother with the drink so I just counted it as a $14 loss and left.

2020-10-16This was hands down the most delicious meal Ive had in a very long time. It was prepared in a matter of a home cooking but have the Finger licking presentation.!!!!👍🏻 I loved everything about this place. Starting with most welcoming staff which provided warm and cozy atmosphere . The place itself is not too big and it creates a very cozy ambiance and comfy seats, perfect for casual day out or for night I would with a special someone. This is definitely going to be my number one choice !!!

2021-10-28Food is great at this place. Lighting is perfect for intimacy or just a chill vibe. It’s always very clean, and they have a great atmosphere. Music varies.

2018-11-22When you walk in you will be overwhelmed by the atmosphere, it is very cool, and the music is great. the food is also just delicious. however, beware of the hostess/waitress/bartender. she is incompetent and indifferent. she is slow, she poured my drinks incorrectly, didnt know what the various dishes were (important with cuisine you are not familiar with) and misunderstand policy about the restaurant . com coupon I asked her about, and when there was an issue when I was paying, became combative. somehow, it was still worth it!

2017-12-17Went there for my wifes birthday, the staff was more than willing to make our experience the best that it could be. My wife danced with the Belly dancer and had the time of her life. The food was delicious, I recommend the lamb Casablanca. It was so perfectly cooked that the meat was succulent and just fell off the bone. If all this was not enough they sang happy birthday to my wife and brought out a delicious desert at my request. Beautiful night❤

2016-04-28I rarely write reviews but this restaurant deserves it. As a Moroccan myself I can attest that the food is truly authentic and delicious. I enjoyed my Couscous Royal, which was almost as good as my mothers couscous. Prices on the menu are decent, service is very friendly, a little slow but thats because they were super busy. The entertainment was awesome, they had a band playing music from Zimbwabe, and a professional belly dancer. This restaurant would have been one of my favorite hang out spot have I not lived out of state!
