Tamarind in other cities:
Pinnacle of disappointmentOverhyped! The food was below average. Without going through the pain of mentioning specifics, overall their food was bland. Waiter was rushing us, which was super weird. We did not even complete our main course and dessert. It was not worth it. Countless better places in the city than this one.PS: we had reservation and was still seated in the walk in corner section which we learned later.
We came for dinner at Tamarind after making reservations. We were very excited to come here after hearing about their extensive menu and popularity. We ended up ordering Lobster Masala, Chicken Tikka Masala, Malai Halibut along with Rosemary, Garlic and Truffle mushroom naans. Everything was delicious. We hoped the halibut came with bit more sauce but overall was perfectly cooked. I took off 1 star for service. They did not refill our water even once. At end of meal I asked for a refill 3 times until they finally got us water. At a high quality restaurant like this, service needs to match up as well. I hope the management team reviews this and make changes. Ill only be back if this is improved.
Great Indian restaurant. The service was great and the food is delicious. We tried the vegetarian samosa for an appetizer and split two dishes of lamb biryani and chicken korma. For dessert we had the classic gulab jamun with ice cream on the side. Everything was made to perfection!
What a beautiful experience!! We got married a day before so we mentioned at reception.. we were put in a 2 seater table for 2 mins and then the manager came to us and offered us a private huge booth!! It was soo sweet, we loved the privacy, the food was exquisite and excellent!! The drinks were so tasty and extremely potent that we couldn’t finish until the end! The dessert came with a congratulations chocolate and a candle!! The server remembered the entire time and even congratulated us in the end too! A heart warming experience and just what we needed as our first date as husband and wife! Thank you Tamarind!
Tamarind has managed to capture the essence and flavours of traditional Indian cooking, but have elevated the dishes to represent the modern fine dining that we have all come to know and love. The paalak chaat, topli na paneer and the dal makhni were the standout dishes!
The sole curry was delicious, each flavor none perfectly recognizable. This really elevated the dish, and I would go back any day for this part of the experience. The she crab soup on the other hand was rather plain. I also felt the waiter didnt pay enough attention to me; he even had to ask if I got the soup, and didnt come check how things were, while he gave a different treatment to other tables. Im not very demanding of the waiting staff, so this surprised me.Lofty spaces, big tables, and upscale vibe.
Unusually small portion for restaurant week so I recommend you to go for A-la carte option.Out of dinner option we ordered malai kofta which was surprisingly mediocre. I was expecting better food taste from tamarind for the name it has.It was a total disappointment with the big bill. I am very sure there are plenty better tasting and services places in New York. We were a big group and none of us plans to visit again!Their Gulland cheese cake was a disaster dessert.. couldnt dare to eat beyond single small bite. Broccoli in sour cream was nice for a change. In tonality, not worth the money and time.
Definitely one of the top Indian restaurants in NYC! It’s a very beautiful restaurant, the ambience and decor is pretty modern yet Indian. Ofcourse the food is delicious. The complimentary puff pastry and yogurt is yummy. Hara bhara kebabs taste really fresh. Vegetarian Tandoor platter is unique. Portions size of starters is big, so unlike us 😅, you might wanna think before you order. Nargisi Kofta was good with butter Naans, the complexity of the flavours used were a little on the higher side for me. Gajrela with icecream was the perfect ending to our dinner night. Menu at Tribeca has tried to include the infinite flavours of India in most compact way possible and I really appreciate that. Highly recommend reservations. The service is great, can be a little quick but it’s very much understandable on a busy night! Goes without saying, it’s a paradise for vegetarians.👍🏼
Excellent Indian food but dont order the staples, get their modern takes that you dont see at normal Indian restaurants. Thats what I did the first few times I went and had a great experience. This last time, I ordered takeout and was curious how they do the staple dishes like saag paneer, chicken tikka masala (ordered just the sauce), and dal makhni. All were decent but none outstanding and you can get equivalent dishes for half the price at your corner Indian restaurant.
Great Experience. We had actually reserved the outdoor seating but when we go there, didnt care for the ambience and vibe outside and decided to sit indoors. The staff was very accomodating in moving us inside. The ambience is nice and it was fairly busy given it was a Friday evening. The service staff is very nice and courteous. Our server explained us the specials in details and was very helpful with her recommendations. We tried some cocktails and they were unique and very good. The food quality and taste is excellent and the portions are just right. Highly recommend this place and we sure will be back.
Really good food and service. Reservations are definitely recommended. The complimentary puff pastry with yogurt tamarind raita was delicious. The Hara Bhara Kababs were huge and so was the Tandoori Subz platter. The Nargisi Kofta had a lot of spices in it. The naan is well made. Plenty of amazing vegetarian/vegan options to choose from. The Gajrela dessert was melt in the mouth. Great place to have dinner in the Tribeca area.
The ambience was great and we were able to get a table on the spot in the lounge area without a reservation. Ordered Amrus (non-alcoholic), Rajkachori, lachha parantha, dum gobhi (cauliflower) and paneer (cottage cheese) for the table. The drink was good and the right amount of sweet. Some gobhi was cooked, some wasnt. The paneer was alright.
A big Indian restaurant with 2 floors and seating outside in Tribeca . Our experience there was great. Meals were great but only slightly spicy. Meals are a bit expensive but the place has a warm clam atmosphere along with great service. Nice place to bring a date/partner or friends
I’ve been to Tamarind many times and enjoy the business lunch. The food is delicious and you won’t regret eating here.On principle, I will never come here again nor suggest it / treat a client here ever again. Today I had reservations for dinner at 530pm with my wife, son and good friend; the restaurant is almost empty (given the time), and the booths are vast and isolated); I had my two year old son asleep on my shoulder. The manager told us we had to eat outside (it’s cold) because they don’t allow children under 8 to eat inside the restaurant. I’ve lived in nyc 18 years and I’ve never seen, heard of or experienced this. I could understand if there was a “no children after 10pm” policy because the place becomes A scene but this makes no sense to me and no restaurant no matter how expensive has ever denied my children the chance to eat with us in the main dining area.Anyway it’s their restaurant their rules, and my money which will never be spent here again. There are other great Indian restaurants in the area. Try one of those.
For the price and location, I expected the food to be much better but it was just average. The ambiance was a tad bit too businessy, and the service was fine, but most importantly the vegetarian dishes I ordered lacked in flavor. Hopefully their meat dishes are better.
For me, this is one of the top 3 fine dine Indian restaurant in NYC!Love the ambiance. The food is just great - so Authentic. The quantity is good too. I loved the cocktails with Indian twist. If I have to recommend a few things, they are:Malai NaanHara Bhara KebabTamarind MargaritaI could have done with a li’l better service though. It was pretty lousy for me but the great food made up for it ☺️
I went for lunch date, and it was amazing, despite of a little expensive and less quantity of executive lunch menu, the food was good, the ambiance is decent and service was also nice. Overall I had good experience, would definitely go back to try things from the menu. :)
We dined at this restaurant and went thru the menu- every detail of menu were exaggerated. Taste and quality of food was unprofessionally prepared. I am well travelled and an epicurean - I know when the good foodtouches the taste buds - not at this restaurant.I Will Never recommend or visit this restaurant again.
This is one of our must go every time I come to New York! The food is amazing, the ambiance is elegant and the drinks are fabulous. I love how the owner is there every night, walking around greeting people and has so much pride in ensuring the utmost quality experience. The lasuni gobi (fried cauliflower) is not to be missed!
What an amazing mothers day dinner we had here. I only have good things to say about this restaurant. Everything from drinks to food to service to ambience was top notch! Started with some drinks they were awesome. we ordered two cocktails - Midnight in Mumbai and Ginger and pepper martini and one mocktail - Pomegranate and Ginger. As appetizer we ordered Punjabi tikkhe kabab absolutely amazing. For entree we ordered Daab chingri (Bengali prawns in coconut curry) it was delicious and the highlight of that night, and Kolhapuri chicken and garlic naan. it was good but no way near the actual Kolhapuri chicken. We also ordered chicken biryani which was yummy. For dessert we ordered Gulab Jamun and coconut mousse bombe both were delicious. Gulab Jamun just melted in my mouth they served it with ginger ice cream 😋 (amazing combination I must say). Kudos to the entire team of Tamarind Tribeca. I will recommend this place to anyone who would like to have some amazing Indian food, in an amazing ambience.
Definitely worth the hype. Service was exquisite and attentive. I throughly enjoyed my meal and I recommend the rice pudding for desert. Biriyani was a bit too minty for my liking but I am also pretty biased lol overall excellent experience and I would dine here again.
Disappointed in the service, the server was crudely pushing us to order more, he insisted 3 time when there was plenty of food ordered already. And he always addressed us in a condescending way saying things like: let me explain to you how this works. Not impressed. The food was good.
Ate here on Father’s Day and informed restaurant that we would be attending for a birthday as well. Was promised a candle when we ordered desserts, but nothing of the sort ended up making it to our table.More importantly, the food was bland, took too long, and was extremely overpriced in terms of what we received. Crab appetizer was not good, spicy chicken masala was just tomato sauce, chicken, and chillies, and we were even charged for a side of raita (which we did not ask for) for their “vegetable biryani” (not on menu, but waiter said they could make it - ended up being vegetables and pulao). Final straw was ordering a dessert platter and getting small portions of desserts including two halves of a gulab jamun - as most people know, gulab jamun are very cheap desserts, but somehow Tamarind still had to split one for us. This was my second time coming and second time leaving unsatisfied and sad I spent my money at this establishment. Very very disappointing experience. Two stars instead of one because of decor in restaurant.
The service was on point. The food was ok. The menu is really big and it feels they want to do too much vs focusing on a few items and do it really well. The tandoori chicken and halibut was served dry and under seasoned. Under seasoned seems to be a theme across the board. Many other choices in NYC for the price point they charge ($$$$).
Went back here again tonight with my mom and aunt and we had an amazing meal. The Tamarind Margarita was soooo good. Everything was perfect. The hostess were very friendly and so was the owner. Love this place can’t wait to come back again.Amazing food, amazing service from staff! Worth the price! The Palak Chaat is a must and the portions is HUGE! Loved the paneer tomato dish and my partner loved the seafood thali. Drinks were strong and tasty. The place is beautiful and the seatings are nice. Definitely worth a trip :)
The ambiance was average. The server was polite but made us wait unreasonably long before taking orders, we ordered for lamb(Masala gosht) and chicken Kolhapuri- chicken Kolhapuri was not soft but edible. But Masala Gosht was hard and not edible. It was like hard piece taken out of fridge and put it in the gravy. The worst was the reaction and attitude of the managerment, when informed about it, instead of feeling sorry, he was trying to justify by explaining the anatomy of a lamb and possibly we got the hardest part etc etc. It was my first visit and last visit. Nothing great about it.
Very good authentic Indian food with nice cocktails. Service was attentive. The food was flavorful so why only 4 stars? I works have given 4.5 of I could but the goat curry, a signature dish needed to be cooked longer. The meat was tough and still stuck to the bone, needed another 4-6 hours of slow cooking. The sauce was delicious though.
I made a reservation on Open table for my moms birthday. Luckily I called the restaurant about a question on dress code only to find out they will be closed that day. Completely unacceptable to be taking reservations and not informing customers the restaurant will be closed.
I went to Tamarind with my wife, and overall I was very pleased with the quality, ambience, service and taste of the food, however had a bit of an off putting experience right towards the end. Giving it an overall 3/5 stars. For food, we didnt order a ton of it. We ordered -3x drinks - Pretty good drinks, a solid 4/5App - We got the Shammi Kabab, which was honestly DELICIOUS 5/5Entree - We got the Punjabi Mutton with garlic naan/kulcha paratha. It was pretty good in flavor a solid 4/5Desserts - Didnt order any as we were both pretty fullOverall, we both really liked the food. However, I had an off putting experience towards the end after paying the bill. My total was at $124, and I tipped pretty generously setting the total to $150 (~21%). However, our waiter read the bill wrong and thought the total was $146 and that Id only tipped like 3-4 bucks. He questioned me about the tip as I was about to leave and I was initially confused what he was talking about. He did eventually realize his mistake and apologized promptly, but I DID NOT appreciate his confrontational behavior. Maybe its just me, but I dont expect to be asked and questioned about how much I tipped, be it 1% or 30%. Im usually a generous tipper, but the question about my tips (even though completely wrong) felt way too confrontational. I did not appreciate that. But until then, the waiter was actually really professional and kind.
5 stars for food and service. Really really good food.. however reduced 1 star on the final review due to the lack of appropriate outside seating arrangement for the winter.. the cabins built do not have any doors or curtains.. there is a heater on the ceiling which will help to keep upper body little bit warm but our feet and legs were totally freezing even after wearing appropriate winter wear. They do not have any additional standing heaters or any sort of alternate solution.. They also do not keep hand sanitizers in the cabins.. these are basic etiquettes expected out of a fine dine expensive restaurant in this Covid winter.. not sure why they have their indoor loft seating closed and unnecessarily capturing massive space on the pavements and making people sit outside in the cold..
A special occasion to celebrate a birthday was marred by indifferent service, below average food, and all the charm of a large Udupi restaurant. The vegetarian thali lacked punch, not a single item stood out, the thali did not come with dessert, probably the only Thali I’ve ever had that did not feature a dessert. A long drive from Princeton turned into a damp squib at Tamarind. A pity since previous visits to this place pre-pandemic were not this bad and I’ve been to Tamarind several times. Far better choices are available in NYC and NJ.
Service was poor. Guest was provided a tasting swig of wine and then glass was never filled. We had to ask for it. At $43, venison was chewy and with inedible silverskin left in. Dinner was cold when brought to the table. Naan was chewy. Lotus Root kofta was not authentic and was pasty. Server admitted somethings are made to appease American crowd and are not authentic. Only good items were the crabmeat appetizer, though not spicy as listed in the menu and the brunello wine that my guest had. For $300+ for 2 people, expectation was far greater. We will neither recommend, nor return.
Great service and great drinks. Food was delicious and the presentation was nicely done. Covid precautions are all taken. They take temperature as soon as we get in and all employees are wearing masks. Inside decor is beautiful. Would recommend for a nice evening out for a special occasion.
Good ambience! and average food according to the price you pay. The appetizers were great - especially paneer was cooked to perfection and the chicken kebab was just as you would expect from an expensive fine-dine restaurant. The mains were however disappointing (approx $30 per dish)TIP: We had reserved a table for a celebration and the policy here is if you bring a cake from outside then they will charge you $3 per person. So, we nearly lost one dish for cutting the cake there.
They have an extensive menu! The food is delicious with a great blend of flavors! The service and atmosphere were great too! The staff is really nice! We tried bhindi, roti, bhel poori and a chocolate dessert at this place! All of them were delicious and the plating was really good! Definitely recommend this place if you are visiting New York City and walk by Tribeca!Do like my review if you find it useful!
Went here during restaurant week to try it out as the menu looked interesting. The decor of the restaurant is very elegant. When we arrived before noon it was just myself and the husband. By the time we left it was pretty packed but reasonable sound levels. We liked the starters, the mains were fine, but the desserts were rather bland. Also had a non-alcoholic cocktail (mostly lychee juice) that wasnt bad, it was one of the cocktails that had the alcohol removed. The wait staff are pretty attentive and service was efficient. Managed to get in and out in under an hour for lunch. Though it probably helped we got there first.
The food ambience and the vibe was amazing. We went for the executive lunch menu. $30 per person. You can choose1 appetizer, 2 entree,1 desert. It comes with rice, bread and vegetable of the day and some green salad. The food was so authentic and the place looked beautifull, spacious, airy and reminded me all pretty looking delhi and mumbai restaurants.Cant wait to take my family here..when evwr they will come visit us.
I really wanted to love this place...however it was just ‘good’ not ‘great.’After seeing the reviews on google, I was excited to come here and try it out. I love Indian food but have really only eaten at restaurants that are a bit cheaper - so I was excited to try an indian restaurant that was listed as $$$. Sadly, I was a bit disappointed, given the price point and ratings/reviews. The server we had was great, the interior and space was beautiful (we were seated in a booth which was great!), but unfortunately it was the food that fell short. The appetizers we ordered were very good (vegetable samosa, scallops, bataki kosha, murg malai kabab) but the main courses were on the average side. For the mains, we ordered tandoori subz, shrimp caldin, chicken tikka masala, and awahdi murgh, plus naan (regular and garlic) and the spinach basmati rice. The naan and the spinach rice were good but the chicken for the 2 dishes was dry. Aside from the chicken in the tiki masala, the sauce was good but we’ve definitely had better at other (less expensive) restaurants. For desserts we ordered the kulfi, tres leches, and sambuca chocolate cake. They were good but not great and the chocolate cake was also dry 😕 Unfortunately, this restaurant was just alright, and I’ll have to agree with the other reviews saying that you can find other indian restaurants with better food and a better price point.
Elegant, classy, authentic, flawless are the words to describe this restaurant. I have been to many Indian restaurants but this one completely stands out from all the previous ones. The minute you enter this establishment you can feel the essence of beautiful Indian infused ambiance. The food was outstanding and the spices were just right. Our party of seven enjoyed every single dishes that we ordered. Everything about this restaurant is well thought out and over executed. I had the greatest pleasure of meeting with The captain at the helm Mr. Avtar Walia (restaurant owner). Favourites at Tamarind: beer 1947, Ginger & Pepper Martini, Apps shrimp caldin, main course toooo many to mention. MUST TRY THEIR LAMB CHOPS......
Had a fantastic meal at Tamarind on a Friday night. We opted for the specials for our entrees. One was the lamb chops and the other was salmon. Both were excellent choices. I was surprised by how good the salmon was since it came with a lot of sauce on it, I was worried it would take away the flavor of the fish entirely. It came out very nice and was a large piece of fish. The lamb chops were excellent as well, great taste and got a nice portion of five pieces. We had the soup appetizer and a chicken special as well. Both fantastic. Overall experience was great and would definitely go back. Not cheap but I think the price is fair for what you get. Ambiance is very nice and the service was top notch.
First off, entering this place is pretty nice. There a sense of grandeur and luxury. Seating was also quick and efficient. I suggest dressing the part (smart casual) to enjoy the full experience. We got placed in the Lotus Room, which was a glass encased private space, with a nice rose scented atmosphere. At the beginning, hot towels (offered also at the end), as well as a complimentary tasting are offered. Also, they give you new utensils after each eating. I started with a cocktail, Ginger Caipirinha. It was good, a little weake than what I was expecting. Cant say about the other cocktails though. For the appetizer I got chili crab, which was a lump of crab meat cooked in different spices and hit peppers. It was actually very tasty. For the entree I ordered the Punjabi mutton, rosemary naan, garlic naan, and lemon rice. The Punjabi mutton was superb. Nicely spiced, very tender meat, and the gravy was so good, I wanted to take it home with me. The lemon rice was kind of underwhelming, didnt taste much lemon. The rosemary naan was okay, tasted like regular naan. The garlic naan was awesome though, highly recommend, especially in combination with a meaty dish. For desert I got a tres leches cake. Im Latino so I had a certain expectation for the cake. It was actually a different, but pretty good cake; not what I was expecting at all. Essentially a cream flavored sponge cake topped with ground cinnamon. In all, 3 of us, each with one cocktail, shared naan, rice, 3 dishes and desert. About $240 after tax and tip. A little steep, but for the quality of service (amazing service), ingredients, and food, I think its fair. I would spend another $200 here no problem.
To start the meal ,we got papri chat ,chilli crab crab .The appetizer was interesting crispy spinach layered with yogurt ,mint ,tomatoes and tamarind chutneyFor entrees we got garlic naan ,wild mushroom ,lamp chops ,chicken biryani & chicken tikka masala.I was impressed with lamp chops masala highly recommended to try lamp chop.Spice was good i can not eat more spicy foods .It was truly elegant given the circumstances .we are looking forward to see you again .The food was amazing excellent service and top quality indian restaurants
It is truly an authentic Indian restaurant. I didnt expect rich Indian flavors in NYCI orderedNawabi Shammi Kabab - it was very rich, truly desi and the right amount of spiceDahi Aloo Puri - The chutneys were so fresh and so viscous. Like as if it was made right in the morning and served up fresh. The balance of flavors was the keyChicken Kolhapuri - You can invite a villager from kolhapur- ask him to taste and he wouldnt deny what a great masterpiece the chicken pieces and gravy is. I asked it to be spicy - and damn it was spicy!!! I can handle it so I enjoyed itGajar Halwa - Made in fully desi ghee and had the perfect sweetness. I dont like it too sweet.I dont post reviews as much, but this dining experience forced me to post thisIndians - its worth every penny you payNon Indians - This is where to stop for Authentic Indian food
Amazing! Every single dish was perfection! I could not reccomend any Indian restaurant with food as good, service as amazing and spices as delicious as this one! Every single dish had a distinctive flavor and cooked to perfection. I wish I could eat this every day! I am in love with this restaurant!
Came here for a work lunch during restaurant week. Which by the way was restaurant month for them according to the waiter lol. It’s a beautiful large space. I spotted something curious walking in - a string of peppers weighed down by a half lemon, fastened to the door frame. My Indian coworker informed me that it was to capture evil spirits to prevent them from entering. Hmm - sounds pretty authentic to me. The inside is a cavernous interior tall enough to hold a second floor. It did feel a little dated, reminiscent of an 80s power lunch spot. Service was attentive with non stop water refilling. I ordered off the RW prixfixe menu - interesting since you get an app, 2 entree selections and small dessert. I ordered the crab cake (tasty), tandoori chicken (delicious), and curry broccoli (well broccoli is broccoli). The naan was absolutely delicious. The but the nut tart was tasty with the fruit layer cutting through the seed paste nicely. At first I thought the portions were small (they were) but I realized I was full so while small to these American eyes, the portion size was clearly enough. So why not a 5 rating? Because this place is expensive. We all got chai tea at the end and it was $8!!! Wow. And I get that it’s restaurant week but one broccoli piece the size of a golf ball shouldn’t be called an entree. So in conclusion, pretty place, good service, tasty food, but come for an expense account meal.
This place was buzzing on a Friday night! The food was great as were the drinks. We got some non alcoholic cocktails - actually they have only three and we ordered them all - lychee, mango and grapefruit. The latter two stood out - the mango one had a kick to it and the grapefruit was wonderfully sweet! Our waiter was understanding and helpful in specifying the vegan options on the menu, which disappointingly arent many. He made sure to tell us that everything they use is fresh and not frozen or tinned so it might take longer to prep. (He also gave us unsolicited advice about how being vegan and avoiding dairy might lead to a long term lactose intolerance.) The appetizers were decently portioned and tasty: Gobi which was a flavor blast, aloo tikki which was alright, and harabhara kebab which was enjoyed by everyone. Coming to the entrees, we got the bhindi piyaza, veg jalfrezi and dal makhani which was well prepared too. Word of caution to the vegans, theres eggs in their naans, yogurt in their complimentary mint chutney with papadams, and most of the rice items and dals are not vegan. I knocked off one star because they can cater to vegans better with more options. Overall it was a good experience here.
Excellent Indian restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere and welcoming staff members. Special thanks to Mr. Vinod for his great service. I would highly recommend making a reservation in advance and don’t miss trying those dishes (Nizami Keema, Vegetables Samosa, Dahi Aloo Poori, Chicken Biryani, Rasilla Aloo & of course some extra Mango Chutney).
Very nice decor and service, great for a date. But a little over-priced for what you get.Having to pay for a side of jasmine rice when an entree costs $26 feels silly. Our appetizers (special lamb samosas and fried cauliflower) were delicious. The lamb curry and chicken korma, however, were underwhelming. The lamb was over cooked and the sauce lacked salt, and the korma’s taste and presentation were no different than a half-priced takeout dish.
Came here for a dinner with some people. Got a crab appetizer, lamb vindaloo, and a pistachio ice cream for desert. The crab appetizer was really really good. This place is really pricey and I am not sure if it is worth the price. But I would say at least give it a try.
This use to be amazing. It was my favourite in North America for Indian. Especially the lamb chops. After recently visiting we noticed a major decline in quality. Overpriced for the quality one would expect. Lamb chops were cooked well done and they had to bring another one out. Curries were nothing special. Not sure I’ll come back with new places in town.
Sat at the bar. Bartenders were nice but crazy busy the whole time and barely looked up. Drinks, chutneys, and breads were all good. Red pepper soup and mixed grill were underwhelming. Ambiance is great (aside from everyone at the bar looking frustrated with the slow service) and not too loud.
5 stars isn’t enough stars. Everything was so delicious!!The samosas were amazing. A lot of places in NY make them salty but this had the perfect amount. The aloo tikiya & chicken tikka masala & lemon basmati rice were all great. The creme brûlée was interesting. The garlic naan ?! Show stopper. The lasuni gobi is AMAZING! Seriously perhaps the best I’ve ever had. It’s a very modern vibes place with amazing Indian food.Highly highly recommend this place !
I was skeptical as to how good this restaurant would fare. Walking in, the ambience hit me in a pleasant way, the wait staff were attentive and friendly. The food was extremely flavorful and delicious. I will definitely be coming back here as this is now my go to fine dining indian restaurant. Cheers 💪🏽

This is one of top 5 Indian restaurants in NYC. The food is amazing for Indian pallets and as well as Americans. Their seafood is great. Avoid the haddock for the sea bass. The service is usually great. Ive only had issues due to miscommunications between myself and the management. Just remember not to bring your kids otherwise theyll refuse to let you in.
We had a reservation here Tuesday. The restaurant was very busy and took a minute for us to be seated. Once seated, it took awhile for anyone to come over to our table. The poor service is my biggest complaint. It was our first time there and no one talked to us about the menu or really anything for that matter. Service was VERY slow. The food was good but portions small for being shared dishes. We had another reservation to get to 2 hours from this one and were rushed to make it on time. Would not eat here again.
The service here was excellent. The food was impeccable. The wine pours were heavy. The ambiance was airy and comfortable. Intimate yet spacious. I cant wait to come back here. The chicken kebab appetizer, the lamb (a special of the night) and the saag paneer were all amazing... As was the garlic naan.
Good place, ate outside at the pandemic seating and had a very pleasant meal catching up with a friend. The naan is delicious and chutney assortment. Chicken murgh was really good, nice kick. Tamarind gimlet was ok but wouldn’t order that one again. Service was very pleasant and they are managing well with the precautions and outdoor seating. Unfortunately only got a picture of the tamarind gimlet.
Today was my third visit to this restaurant. We were asked to use outdoor dining area due to their new COVID policy(Vaccine proof) which is fair. However the guy at front desk conveyed the information in the rudest way possible . Luckily the waitress who served us was very nice and polite.I ordered Amritsari fish, tandoori chicken and goat curry. I had to return the fish. It was rubbery and stale. They probably just microwaved it before serving. Chicken wasnt marinated at all. It tasted bland. Goat curry was average.Quality of the food has reduced significantly after pandemic. I have had fish and tandoori chicken at this place earlier and the food was excellent. Food served today was below average. Not a Michelin star for me. Not wasting my money here anymore
Good interior with nice cosy ambience. Liked the starters. Loved the chicken dishes especially as chicken was very well cooked, tender and marinated beautifully. We ordered palak chaat, aloo tikkas and murgh malai as starters. Followed by paneer, vegetable thali, daal makhani and rice in the main course. The taste was quite good but didn’t like the service much. Found the service too rushed as the dishes were picked up though one of us were eating. They even didn’t serve our laccha parathas on time. The quantities of food is quite good so is the price which is on the upper end😊
Exceptional food and service! As an Indian with a fussy mum, she was so impressed with the quality of the food and how it tasted just like home cooking. Saag chaat and chicken from the tandoor were delicious. Pindi and daal makhani were perfect for my mum. We will definitely be returning when we are back in NY!
Terrible customer service. They called a few hours before a reservation of 5 informing me that the restaurant didn’t permit children and suggested sitting outside with a one month old baby! I explained it was 34 degrees outside and given the late notice that common sense should prevail here. Needless to say they wouldn’t budge. The person who called was very entitled, and unhelpful…. sadly not too bright. For a pricey establishment it was disappointing to deal with such poor service.
Tamarind Tribeca has become a Tribeca neighborhood mainstay post Covid. One of the few restaurants that has been continuously open and providing locals great food with white table cloth service.Tamarind, the now-stand-alone Tribeca outpost of a since-closed Flatiron original. It’s a welcome departure from the neighborhood’s typical fare. Pro Tip: Dont forget the saffron ice cream. #whoyourbrokerismatters #localbusinesswelove
I have been to Tamarind several times over the years. However, this particular time, the quality of the place seemed to have gone down. My daughter and I had to wait for a while for the receptionist to show up before we were seated. She was nice though. The cutlery and glasses needed to be changed as they werent washed well. The food itself did not disappoint. The service was pretty good. My daughter complained about the chicken being dry and our waitress immediately replaced it. I hope the issue with the cutlery was a one off incident and not a sign of slipping quality.
I celebrated my graduation yesterday in this fine place. Well we enjoyed a phenomenal evening and the restaurant was indeed one of the reasons for that successful gathering. The crew contributed in a gorgeous way, the cuisine was very good and my buddies were extremely overjoyed. We shall absolutely come back again for more celebrations. Thank you very much.
Great food, wonderful customer service, ambiance is perfect for a romantic dinner or night out with friends or family. Everything about our experience was just perfect. Had a chance to meet the owner the night we were there, seems like a very nice and humble man. We will definitely be back for many celebrations in the future. I had to edit my review as they had this stupid policy of minimum spend of $75 per person for bday celebration I was trying to reserve a table for. Taking a star off just because of that.
Very clean and elegant place. Food was delicious and the service was awesome. The staff greeted us and even gave wet towels to wipe hand before and after the meal. This is something new which I discovered in NYC. We ordered Raj Kachori for appetizers, you can feel Tamarind in it.And Tamarind Murgh for main course, it wasnt spicy at all.
Great decor and upscale atmosphere. We took 2 executive lunches so we got to try a great variety of dishes. All of them were very tasty and special. This set menu option is an amazing value for money, and well definitely come again to try more options of the menu.We tried A LOT of the citys indian restaurants, and this one is now one of our favorites
Had such a nice dinner at Tamarind on Saturday. The food was great and possibly the best at any upscale Indian restaurant I have been to, but the service was impeccable. Our waiter even knew it was our anniversary and brought out a candle with desert and wished us, which was a pleasant surprise. Will definitely be a go to spot now!
We were rudely turned away because “they have a child policy”, and when I protested it should be with bright red letters on their web site, the host rudely (again) told me that it is. Let me tell you, it isn’t — at least not anywhere visible. Maybe at the bottom of some page.No apology, no effort to make things good.Obviously never coming back and will make sure everyone knows.
Went last night for dinner with friends , all the specials and recommend food from our server lathish was great , i thought he will just try to sell the most expensive dish like most restaurants ,but he was honest abt the food and the service and most of all he made us laugh , definitely coming back for more.
Great ambience, courteous staff and elegant Indian dishes.. The malai naan is a secret gem hidden away in th appetizer section of the menu. It goes very well with their amazing dal makhni. Finally, Mr Walia is the perfect host.. He will stop by, ask about the food and make sure youre having a good time.
Great food, the servers were friendly and attentive. I went there for my birthday dinner. Although I had a great time there with my family I was highly disappointed with their policy of not allowing kids below 7 years inside their restaurant. They are only allowed for outdoor seating. I felt this was really unfair. As a Michelin Star restaurant I expect them to be more accommodating even to the kids. If they feel that kids below 7 are going to disturb their other guests then they can make another indoor section for the ones with smaller children and not make them sit in outdoor seating.
I love the ambience but food wasnt good. I have tried indian food across United states, honestly the food is over rated here . Our goat was chewy and not hot , Palak panner was not much good either, Halibut special was the only food I liked. There is much more expectation from such restaurants in terms of services.
Tamarind is a special place. Its considered high End Indian cuisine and they live up to this. The place 1st of all is gorgeous. The bar upon entering the place is on the left. The staff are quiet and focused on achieving a serene dining experience. The space between the seating is enough to carry a discreet conversation without anyone listening in. The place was almost empty when i arrived at 6pm. When i left, the was not an empty seat in the house. If you like or love Indian cuisine, and being in lower Manhattan and price is no object, Tamarind is great place to dine. The menu and the diversity of flavors plus a nice list of wine, including undervalued Australian wines, just proves what you can achieve with attention to detail.Hiren (hope i spelled his name right), was our server and he knows how to direct and please his customers. He has such a smooth demeanor and it would be a pleasure to have him as a server again. He does good for the restaurant, in fact he asked to return soon to try more items on the menu. He asked very nicely and very smoothly. I will certainly consider. I most certainly will refer some people to done here for sure! We ordered a bottle of Two Hands, Sexy beasts from South Australia. Wow, what a smooth drinker. So many Australian wines most people neglect. Look into it. We had garlic naan, spicy crab (quite nice), Murgh Malai Kabab (grilled chicken in a superb marinate), Tenakay Murgh and Lobster Masala and finally ended with Gulab Jamun (milk pastries in honey). We were quite satisfied with everything!
Really great experience. The waitstaff and entire team are very nice and attentive. The food was really good and plentiful! The amount of spinach chaat was great. The food was authentic tasting. Only negative was the rice. Wasnt a huge fan of the lemon rice but everything else was great. Their Mr Walai mocktail is worth the try. Love the sweet taste of the drink with the heat of the pepper that hits you. Great drink!
While the food was outstanding, the service was abysmal. What made it worse was that we were dining outdoors and it was freaking cold. There was a 45 minute lull between our appetizer and first round of drinks and anyone showing up to speak to us! Perhaps dining indoors is a better experience...
Visited few times in the last 15 years. Always had a great memory of impeccable service and awesome food. However last night was different. Not sure whether they are short staffed during the pandemic. Both service and food was mixed. While the specials was awesome, many of the entree and appetizers were mediocre. Hope it’s a temporary glitch.
Celebrated my father in laws birthday here on Saturday. We went for lunch and were not at all impressed. The food was mediocre at best. The chicken awadhi was bone dry. When I brought this up with the server, he said it was supposed to be dry. I told him it was so dry that it was difficult to chew and he told me that he would fix it when we come back next time 🙂. There wont be a next time. Disappointing service and food.
This spot is a full experience, expect to be here for around 2 hours. The staff were very polite and the outdoor huts are nicely ventilated. The spinach paneer kebab was delicious. Had a tomato paneer dish as well and it was nice. We had the vegetable platter and the okra dish there was delicious. Plastic straws are used, an easy swap, maybe go straight to metal instead of going to paper (less waste is better!). Had a nice experience but wasn’t blown away.
So I havent been to the restaurant. No. But I was planning on having my bachelorette lunch there on Dec 29th, with an intimate gathering of 6 of my dearest girlfriends. I wanted to be diligent and book a table well in advance - so I called them enquiring about their executive lunch featuring Bengal. A really callous person answered the phone who first said they only serve Punjabi food - but their menu distinctly advertises food from other states of India. On mentioning this, the guy said they do but for this month, they are only serving Punjabi food. Fine. So I asked them very politely - okay, can you please tell me what would you have as an executive lunch in December? The guy smirked and just said No. Without any explanation. I was shocked and didnt know how to react. So I just said ok and hung up the phone. For a place such as Tamarind Tribeca, customer service should be just as important as the food quality. And if you cant entertain a guest on a relatively free afternoon, I certainly wont risk it with this group on New Years. Thanks to the person who was answering phones on Nov 28th 12:30P.M. EST, you lost a customer. And I will ensure this post sees good traffic - so as to make more ppl know how you treat people with Indian accents.
I’m sorry this restaurant is not meant for Indian Indians. Whoever rated high for this restaurant have surely not eaten good Indian food. Authenticity in taste isn’t the problem as I have eaten and appreciated Indian food made in the Continental style too. We unanimously agree that this experience was not nearly worth it for the willfully obtuse price of literally every food item on their menu. Another reason not to go back to an Indian place in Manhattan.
I went to Tamarind during the restaurant week, so the restaurant had a fixed menu. I had the tomato soup which was delicious. The entrees were great as well, especially the Kadai Paneer and Tandoori Broccoli. Finally, we ended with Gulkhand Cheesecake which was fantastic. The service is good and the staff is friendly.
This has become one of my favorite restaurants because of food and service. Ate outdoor seating. Wait time was good, pleasant service, and amazing food. I do not eat lamb but it came highly recommended. So good I ordered another to take home. I will definitely return. I dont think you can go wrong with any of the food selection.
We went to Tamarind in restaurant week and with very high hopes. As we were visiting Newyork, our friends took us to this one after having heard good reviews about it.As soon as we entered, i get vibes of high end restaurants. Ambience was nice, lighting was done aesthetically and decor was on spot. Little flower vase on each table was icing on the cake.We ordered 3 fixed menu a 2 items from whole menu. There were few problems we had with this.1> we got hair in first appetizer. When we complained they casually replaced it with new one.2> portion sizes were very small, it was mentioned in menu that you will have 2 entrees, but sizes were not enough and we were hungry in the end.3> taste. It wasnt upto mark. Chicken, lamb and malai kofta. We felt it could have been done better.I hope this was one off time and other have better experiences.
We have been to this Tamarind few years ago couple of times. Food was good then, now I heard they lost their star, but still decided to try thinking it can’t be that bad. We are a vegetarian family, and unanimously the agreement was the food was bad, we could not finish the vegetables we ordered. It tested bad. I can’t speak to the non-veg dishes but the veg gravy dishes we ordered were bad. On top of that the naan was burnt. Spent your money somewhere else.
Food is great. Waiter was very nice and professional. However; a place this nice and delicious should be staffed to serve their customers. I’m shocked at how few staff they have working on a Friday night. To ownership, please sort this out as I’d love to come back, but can’t commit to waiting over an hour and a half for food!
Their food not only fills your stomach but it gets registered in your memory as a point of reference. The one thing that I hate here is all other Indian food is being compared to this now.Coming back to the review, the food here is absolutely wonderful. Its prepared with care and the flavours are well balanced. Although I agree food might not be spicy enough for an authentic Indian palate. The chicken Tikke kabab was on of the best I have had in a while. The chicken was cooked to perfection; and the accompanying sauces were yummy too. We also ordered chicken biryani and rasmalai. They were equally tasty and well made. If you are looking for a place for a special night or just crave some well made Indian food tamarind tribeca is the place to go.P.s. I know the your usual go to bread option might be naan. Give poori (fried wheat bread + visually entertaining ;) ) a try at this restaurant, you will definitely appreciate this review
We booked a table for 4 yesterday to celebrate my partners birthday - it was a really below expectation experience. We weren’t catered to for good 15 mins after we sat on our table. We did not want to drink on a Sunday night but were again and again shoved with drinks menu even after asking for food menu and mock tail menu several times. The food took a looong time to arrive and arrived absolutely cold. We had to ask them to reheat all the dishes. The presentation was ruined of course after they brought back the food - kind of ruining the experience of a fine dining restaurant. And the worst part is that even the food is nothing close to authentic Indian food!! The only star I gave is for the way the servers were communicating which was super polite and respectful. However we had an overall terrible experience and would definitely choose rahi, Dhamaka or Baar Baar for better food and dining experience!!!
We have been to this ages ago.. say 10 years and wanted to try it out with our family again. We enjoyed their special Gobi fry. Brocolli and Cheese Naan was awesome. Lotus root Kofta was OK. Spinach Garlic rice was good, but could have had flavored it more. Meaning unless they told us that we wouldnt have thought it had spinach. Our drinks were good. Mr.walia and Raj Royal. Overall a good experience and service was great.
PERFECT DATE NIGHT ! Hands down the best Indian restaurant in nyc by far. The staff is so friendly, when we came in we were greeted by the humble owner himself. The restaurant sent few appetizers on the house to the table, & when our main course came, we were shocked the food was made so well, each course was presented so well. Beautiful candlelight ambiance & truly a michilin star ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Awesome restaurant!! Very elegant environment and beautiful place overall. The tables are socially distanced, and have a very welcoming vibe. The staff are very professional and friendly and the food was awesome! It’s very kid-friendly and even my 7 year old ate a lot of the food. The food is really delicious, and they have a wide variety to choose from as well. One of the best highlights was the appetizers. Highly recommend this restaurant and extremely upscale.
A thorough and honest review:I think my friend and I went in last night expecting a lot from a Michelin star restaurant but, the end result fell a little flat to our dismay. Ambiance and decor was great, so were the appetizers and dessert (Raj Kachori, Malai naan, Jasmine chocolate cake - highly recommended!!)Unfortunately our cocktails, were a little too overpowering, it left us wincing a bit after every sip, the cardamom was too strong in mine ( Cardamom Blossom) and the Lychee Martini had a strong alcoholic aftertaste, the presentation of the drinks were very plain as well. Nothing refined about it.We also felt the need to mention that we had dinner reservations for 7:30 PM and we had officially ended our dinner at 11PM (that’s 3.5 hrs!!) - the service was very slow to say the least but, at least the waiters were nice and attentive! We didn’t really have much to say about the main entrees, we had the Veg thali, which was ok..There’s absolutely better ones served elsewhere. We also had the Nargisi Kofte in an attempt to try something new, unfortunately it turned out to be a very sweet curry so we barely put a dent in it.Over all, it was a so-so experience, we weren’t blown away and we really were expecting a lot more but, ah well..it is what it is. I hope this helps give a little more insight to someone thinking of trying this place out, or thinking of trying the things we tried out from the menu.
Food is normal like any other indian restaurant nothing special for the price. The service was very poor. First we ordered a side of onions and they forgot and brought it until 20 min after the main course was served - so it was useless at that time. Had to ask multiple times to get water refilled. Not the service i expected with the amount they are charging.
Went for Saturday lunch for the restaurant week meal. Service was amazing, so is the ambiance however the food very disappointing. The food was below average it was tasteless and seemed like mass-produced like something you would get at a wedding. I would never go to this restaurant again. It was a waste of my time and my money
The outdoor dining is amazing. They have individual cubbies for individual tables with personal heaters. We were there on a bitter cold winter night and it was extremely comfortable. I even took off my jacket while enjoying dinner. Foods & drinks have always been good here, a little pricey but you get what you pay for.
Heard great things about this place but I came for Restaurant Week 2021 and was very disappointed. The food was subpar (chicken was dry, fish was bland, lamb was passable) but during the meal I saw a large cockroach on the wall next to my girlfriend. I killed it with a napkin and a waiter quickly came over and grabbed the napkin and walked away with it, swung by after and whispered sorry about that and went about his day as if that sort of thing happened regularly. Definitely wont be coming back.
We had lunch here for restaurant week. Overall, the food was fantastic. We had one small glitch - there was a piece of plastic in my rice which I discovered halfway through they meal; they offered to replace it, but overall it was a gstill a very good experience. The food was perfectly seasoned and the meats were tender. Dessert was exquisite. Drink menu was expansive as well. If theres anything I would change is that I would want the service to be a bit more personal - dont get me wrong, the service was very good...something youd expect at a fine dining restaurant; but to me, ethnic restaurants should offer a bit more personal experience. In a nutshell, I highly recommend this restaurant and will absolutely visit again.
Really good place. The table and I ordered Lamb, Aloo Gobi, and the Chili Murgh. Lamb was to die for! Super soft and melted in your mouth, I highly recommend it! The Aloo Gobi added a nice touch and side dish to the other foods. The Chili Murgh was perfectly balanced, and had nice spice which made it so addicting. Very impressive, but I have only one complaint - Maybe its just my tastebuds but one of their mocktails (Tamarind Punch) tasted pretty bizarre. It kind of felt like a ton of spices and mixtures that didnt really work together. All in all though, great place -Cheers!

2022-05-24The food flavors don’t qualify for it to be a michelin star restaurant. The ambience is just average. The raj kachori wasn’t great and reshami kebab was chewy and not melt in mouth - plate presentation were just normal. Paneer in paneer lababdaar wasn’t fresh. Punjabi mutton was good. I liked the complimentary spicy crusted flakes with chutney. Although the chutneys i ordered from the menu weren’t as amazing as they sounded. I also noticed that servers although polite were in a rush for us to order or take the plates soon before we are done relishing the appetizers or main course. I wouldn’t recommend it as the food is overrated.

2022-07-04Food in general was good, decent portions and good , friendly staff. However, EXTREMELY disappointing that the tamarind rice in the menu is just the plain old MTR powder. Certainly not what you expect from an upscale Indian restaurant. Dont bother ordering the tamarind rice.

2022-04-09We reserved a table for our engagement anniversary. The restaurant is open and has a clean contemporary feel to it with Indian touches to the decor. The first thing i would like to highlight is the incredible service. Our server Adrian was attentive, friendly and professional. We really liked Adrian’s recommendations and he attended us with a smile. Steven from his supporting staff diligently took care of us, cleared the plates soon after we were done with each course, laid out fresh plates for each course (dinner plates came out hot!), and made sure we were hydrated. Service at this place was memorable, they nailed it.As for the food, it lived up to the raving quality described in other reviews. For the evening we had:1. Mr. Walia - 5/5 - coriander and chilli in a cocktail! Yes and they nailed it, was delicious2. Hara Bhara Kebab - 5/5 - Melts in the mouth3. Aloo Tikki - 4/5 - was good, but was not memorable4. Paneer Lababdar - 5/5 - perfectly spiced, creamy and flavorful5. Garlic Naan - 5/5 came out hot and was delicious6. Vegetable Pullav - 4/5 - complimented the paneer entree wellOverall a memorable experience with exceptional service and delicious food, definitely recommend to anyone looking for a great Indian restaurant in the area!

2022-06-13Great flavors, a little pricy for the portions but I still think in the “fair” range. Service was excellent: attentive, informative and kind. Skip the mushroom naan, save room for the garlic naan-it’s some of the best I’ve had. Nice atmosphere with upper and lower seating areas, outdoor pods looked very thoughtful. Also, great private bathrooms.

2022-02-16As average as it gets. I honestly do not get what the hype is all about. Bland and flavorless food. Average service, where the waiter seemed super impatient to just get us out of there. Ive tried much better spots in the city, which honestly, are also much cheaper.

2022-01-26Awesome food experience. we had reservation to sit inside but seeing a huge crowd inside we decided to sit outside. The heater was fine so outside seating was quite comfortable despite the cold weather. Our server Akash helped us with great suggestions so a big thank you to him. For appetizers we had a spicy yet juicy Elk/deer chop - achari heeran champ and murgh angarey kebabs. The deer meat was unbelievably good. For entree we had Malai Halibut - a unique take on preparing Halibut in an Indian way. Absolutely loved it. It was healthy, soft and melted in the mouth. we had it with pilaf. Then we ordered Punjabi mutton - a spicy goat prep and we had with keema naan. keema naans were well stuffed in keema and quite heavy. All in all great food combinations and quite filling.

2021-12-22We went here for first date after our wedding. Great service, with appetizer and cocktails! Loved the spinach Chaat and tomato pepper soup. Vegetarian main course could be better.

2022-07-20All of the dishes that I ordered did an amazing job fulfilling the traditional tastes of Indian dishes, as youd expect, while adding subtle tweaks to make them taste even better. We ordered Malai Kofta, Dal Makhani, Topli Paneer, Lasooni Gobi and it was difficult to choose a favorite.I was so impressed by the food that after trying the food I checked to see if the restaurant had a Michelin star, which it does! Our server, Vinay, as well as the rest of the staff provided very attentive personable service.5/5 experience all around!

2022-02-22Great Indian restaurant for a special occasion. The quality is outstanding and the service is very good as well.I enjoyed the grilled thali with chicken kebabs, lamb chops and grilled coconut shrimp. However the mushroom butter diish was time pass. The mushroom and truffle naan is good, so is the lachcha parantha. The recommended brunello paired well with the grilled dishes.

2021-09-20We had a great experience at Tamarind. The food tasted great. My favorite was Murgh Angarey(Tandoori Chicken). Its a little pricey specially the cocktails but its well worth it for food, the ambience and the impeccable service!
