If you have kids that love dinosaurs then you have to go and check out the exhibit. Theres a couple robot dinosaurs as well as a life-size T-Rex statue outside. Theres also some live animals that you could look at in pet. After you go through the exhibit Id recommend walking around the pond and having a snack.
I went to Spooky Fest with my family and it was a total disgrace. I chose this place due to the supposed “limited attendance” and “social distancing” rules that were displayed on their website. There were thousands of people... Kids and adults alike running everywhere, no rules, no regulations, and lines stretching hundreds of feet long. Beyond chaos!! This place clearly does not enforce social distancing guidelines like they specifically say they do on their website. What a complete rip off and a health / safety hazard. I’ll be disputing the charge on my card. Absolute liars!!! 1-star is too many!
This is a review for the Dinosaurs exhibit (or lack thereof) at the Tanglewood Preserve in Rockville Center.Took our twin boys here today, expecting to kill maybe a few hours of our day with some dinos. We were shocked to learn upon arrival that our just over 2 yr olds were $12 each (adults are $15, under 1 yr old is free - not the norm almost anywhere).Social distancing policies in full effect, which was to be expected, but that takes away a good 1/4 of the interactiveness of the indoor exhibits.Outdoor areas have a few animals but all exhibits are in dire need of repair or updating...we are talking wild rabbits and owls and a sad turtle pond...nothing attractive.Indoor area is decent. Some cool skeletons of the Big Dinos your kids will love. A uramastix and alligator in small tanks. A bird here and there. The animatronic dinos are super lame. Basically move a tail here or a head there with some very unrealistic sounds. Not even worth our time. All in all, if your child cant read or isnt interested in hearing you read facts to them, steer clear. The preserve itself is in major need of sprucing up as well. Tons of garbage on our walk around the grounds.Overall, just an overpriced sad attempt to kill a few hours (barely 60 minutes)
Just discovered this gem today. Its unassuming facade hides and impressive dinosaur exhibit combined with a live zoo. The dinosaur exhibit does something really smart I havent seen done before where it combines fossils, animatronic dinosaurs, and live reptiles and amphibians that draws the comparisons between dinosaurs and their descendants. The theme continues outside of the exhibit with an enclosure of different birds coupled with a display about dinosaur eggs and their different nests. Its like a bite size version of the Museum of Natural History and the Bronx Zoo. The staff were beyond friendly, enthusiastically engaging with my kids, sharing facts about the animals and the exhibits. A staff member personally offered carrots to my daughter to feed the goats, another staff member walked with her from tank to tank, telling her facts about the lizards, and another staff member, seeing how much my children liked the rabbit, took the bunny out of the cage and let my 2 and 4 year old pet it. This is a place well be returning to often.
Came here for my 3yr old daughters birthday gift to see the dinosaur exhibit. While ot was smaller than I imagined it was the perfect size to keep the attention of a child in her age group. The place is nicely maintained, the staff was friendly and overall I was happy with the experience.
Spooky Fest at the Tanglewood Preserve is fun for the family. $10 for the non spooky path for young children and their parents. Its fun for the kids and they get to do a craft activity after the walk. Refreshments are available for purchase and there are restrooms on site. Its located in a residential area so make sure you make time to find a parking space. Enjoy!
CJ and Ryan were so sweet, informative, fun and helpful! we had a great time !we JUST did dinosaur experience and a little walk. dinosaurs life size and some motion sensored to move. birds, owl, turtles, goats, etc. very cute. a bit is pricey for a fairly short walk through but i still hold strong with 5 stars bc they are a NON PROFIT and do a lot of conservatory work. my 1 and 2 year old LOVEDDDD it. thanks Tanglewood!!!!
Kiddos to the staff and volunteers for creating such a magical event, but the cost of entering is way to expensive for a community event. The cost of $15 per person is too expensive, and $10, to walk around, is too costly and I don’t think I’ll attend next year as well as my neighbors.
The Tanglewood Preserve trip was purely a nostalgic one. Long ago, the Preserve was the home of a quaint little place called the Lakeview Public Library. Although small, there was access to books from all over the State of New York, not to mention a plethora of African American history. Surrounding the library were two ponds/lakes where ducks and geese frequented, two Weeping Willows, along with a number of lovely dragonflies, butterflies, and assorted flora indigenous to Long Island. There was a camp on the property and the library had various activities, which serviced the children of the community. The summer was extra fun at the Tanglewood Preserve/Lakeview Public Library. The library is long gone and the ponds have lily pad clusters and green algae covering them. There is a daycare in one of the buildings on the Preserve, although I am unsure if it is for Lakeview residents or the neighboring Lynbrook folks. The man made scenery is nice, benches, gazebos, torii, but the memory of jaunts in the woods, fun activities with friends, and watching the graceful landings of the ducks on the pond had me wishing for the good old days.

2022-05-04Kids love the dinosaurs, animals and the “digging.” The preserve has a beautiful walk around a lake. Halloween is always fun and the Easter dinosaur egg hunt was a blast! While I highly recommend the dinosaur exhibit for Dino loving kids, it is small so don’t except to spend too much time there.

2021-11-06We really loved our Spooky Fest experience. My son is 15 autistic nonverbal and we have really never taken him to a Halloween event thinking he would be too scared but this place was great. Wish I could give more then 5 stars!!

2022-05-19Any Dinosaur loving kid would enjoy the display. My kid love the mechanical display. The dinosaur have a sensor so when you walk pass it is triggered. They have reasonable priced merchandise and a pretend play outside area for paleontologists. They have a section of resuce animals, turtles and goat you can feed for free. There is a nice lake you can walk around or sit on the benches and enjoy the peaceful view.

2020-08-28Like the friendly service that the staffs provide here! They made me feel so relax and welcome! The exhibit here are not big, but good enough for my kids to take a look and learn about animals! One thing I like the most is the natural wood area! It’s so big and pretty! Feel really relax for a walk!!! I felt like I was in the world of storybook!

2022-05-10Nice place but it is looking neglected. The potential is there. Hire a landscaper and pick up garbage towards the back of the water ways as well. Bottles and filth floating on the water! The poor animals that also have to live in that scream hypocrisy especially with the word “Preserve” in its park name!

2020-09-17Cute park and very kid friendly. I wish the upkeep was better but maybe due to Covid it was not kept as well as I was hoping. Overall really pretty potential especially if there were blooms. No dogs allowed which sucks buy it might be due to sanitary issues since its not large and it is kid-oriented.
