This place was awesome! Me and my mate popped it as it opened with the intention of just having a quick drink but didnt end up leaving until six and a half hours later! Caitlin the barmaid was lovely, entertaining and really helpful. As two tourists in a locals bar we were really made to feel welcome. Cant recommend the place enough.
At first we got the impression not to be very welcome and were treated a little rude by the staff, but after the place was going empty, the bartender apologized and even gave us a free beer.In my opinion it takes a lot of courage to do so and we really appreciated this gesture. So 5 stars is less then i would give, since it is really a nice place with fair prices and a cool atmosphere.
We go there exclusively to play pool. Atmosphere is a typical bar...nothing fancy, and restrooms could use a refresh, but service is friendly, popcorn is free, and it has a casual, low-key vibe. The pool table is a bit cramped, and the columns make playing there a little tricky.
We had an older women bartender on a Saturday night who was incredibly rude, dismissive, and treated us like we were an extreme inconvenience. It made us upset and unable to enjoy our night. Unfortunately we will not be back as we would rather spend money at a location that does not make customers feel like a nuisance.
Come here and meet four or five friends to have drinks after a long week. Tap a Keg is welcoming and the bartenders are awesome, Im not sure if they are trying to instill some kinda craft-brew vibe given their name, but all of the beers are fairly standard. This is a nice hole in the wall kind of a joint with a pool table in the back. The long Island iced tea is $14.
Quintessential hole in the wall, and I love it. Has a pool table, jukebox, flat screens, and its a very, very low key scene. Typical neighborhood bar vibe. Weekday bartenders are normal, nice people (so if youre looking for uber-hot 22 year old unemployed actors with a terrible attitude, this isnt your place). This bar is for adults. In addition, they do not serve food, so you can order in from any of the surrounding restaurants. Tap a Keg keeps it simple. Just the way it should be at a dive bar. :)
Worst experience in a bar ever! We went in and sat, and even though the “lady” in the bar saw us, we weren’t offered a menu. My boyfriend went on to ask her about it, and she said “ID!”. He showed her his, and she said “Are you stupid, her ID!”. We’re 26 by the way, and we are visiting from another country, thank god it’s not our last night in NY! Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, the most rude lady we have met in this city
Great local scene! Great mix of Columbia grad students and older people to keep this place poppin into the wee hours. I came here during a snowstorm with my siblings and had a great time. They ended up singing some Camrom song with one of the regulars and it was a great time. Ask for their popcorn -- free and so delicious!

2022-04-10Used to love this place to kick back, play some league pool, hand just have a good time. Now, a bunch of ignorant bartenders who are nasty and about two of them are definitely racist, but then say, but some of our staff are black Yea, ok. If you like bad attitudes and coke heads to hang with, theres your spot.

2022-03-30Love the pool table. And the vibes sometimes…Dont love the service! And Watch your stuff! Several times patrons on this “fine” establishment have been robbed, myself included. Anybody wanna buy me a new iPad? …Didn’t think so, how about another round for the road…?

2021-08-15Update; the scene at this bar almost got better post pandemic. the pool is just as serious and the crowd is a bit more lively then i remember. dont expect a group of college arsholes to pull up because they usually right away when they realize theyre not new york enough to stay. didnt know they have a chess board in house.strongly implore ya to get tacos from the mexican deli right down to the right- some of the best tacos in the city!!!!!theyre popcorn mix is tasty though. they throw goldfish and popcorners in it so its salty and dopegreat dive bar and the tenders are usually funny and brute. good spot for serious pool players

2021-10-10Got checked for covid status and regular ID at the door. Then moments later checked AGAIN by the lady bartender. I was told to pick another spot at the bar because the empty seat was taken, but of course no other areas at the bar were available. No suggestions were made where else to be seated, no assistance at all was given. So I left.

2021-12-07Very ignorant staff - who also dont know how to pour a pint of Guinness! - and scoff when asked to top it off when half the glass is full of head/cream.Also could do with more lively bartenders that are able to keep up on busy nights - rather than accosting patrons.
