Tapioca is a comfort food for me. I am Brazilian and I come here often. I always Oder the same thing. Sometimes I love and sometimes I don’t. There is no consistency. I believe is due to the high employee turnover. My advise to the Tap is to be more consistent on quality. Also, every time I bring a friend I feel bad because they don’t allow clients to use the bathroom. I am stubborn and I keep coming. But I’m never sure whether it will be great or not. I have hopes.
Its all gluten-free, which is very cool. I had a vegan sandwich. However, I was not happy with the price/quality ratio. The sandwich was small, the dough was hard and tasteless. It was not worth my money...Nevertheless its nice, that everything is gluten-free without any contamination!
Perfect spot to grab breakfast or lunch. My first time trying tapioca crepes, and they were surprisingly delicious. I ordered a savory Avo & Egg and my friend had a sweet Nutella crepe and we both loved them. If youve never tried one before, this Brazilian café is a must visit! Space was ambient, but with the need for social distance, very limited.
I believe the food they make is completely gluten free, however several of the desserts are from the Brazilian bakery, Brigadeiro Bakery. This bakery, delicious as it may be, is not a gluten free facility so not safe for coeliacs, and definitely not two of the selections they had at the restaurant. Some of the desserts, (not from Brigadeiro) that appear to have been made in-house, were GF so just be careful or stay away from desserts.
A wonderful experience coming here. The tapioca crepes are brilliant and diverse in flavour. It is excitement for the eyes and tastebuds. Service is superb – all staff are warm and helpful. Coffee is prepared perfectly (and they have oatmilk!). Pastries are delicious and all gluten-free. Same goes for the entire menu. Not your typical Brazilian or health food restaurant - give them a try 😋
Brazilian cafe!Food 5/5I came for coffee but I think it specializes in Brazilian cheese bread. Looks amazing and lots of people came just for it. Will come to try some other timeService 5/5Super friendly and helpful. Everyone was wearing mask and sanitizing the tables everytime someone leaveAmbiance 5/5Very well spaced. Indoor and outdoor dining available. I was sitting inside right in the middle of the store and it felt very spacious and safe
Tap is the nicest coffee shop in the upper west side. They sell Brazilian treats and specialty food, the original cheese bread they bake is better then anything you can find even in Brazil. Also on the menu are the gluten free and delicious tapioca crepes, savory and sweet options, and now even better with the wrapioca a wrap with gluten free tapioca flour and eggs on the very thin and deliciously light doe. Im addicted to those cheese breads!
The matcha latte tasted above average but its microfoam could be improved. The latter could be an issue of consistency: our cup had a level 3 microfoam (large visible bubbles) while another customer had one with velvety smooth level 1 microfoam with no visible bubbles. The crepes are tasty overall. However, none of us like the taste of the topioca wrap. While tapioca may help with gluten intolerance, the sales pitch that it is a healthy energy boost is debatable. Tapioca is essentially pure carbohydrate and is definitely not ideal for maintenance of weight or blood sugar levels.Everyone at our table enjoyed the tomato soup. Nevertheless, we are unsure if the soup is made fresh as we saw the staff refilling the soup pot with a carton.
Best açaí bowl at about $12-15 I think - the granola is perfect and the fruit were very fresh and tasty. The cheese bread was awesome (must try) - the tapiocas were very good too - I always have the “anytime” which is simple but very good - overall a great spot for a brunch or if you want something healthy for lunch or a coffee time. The picnic box is highly recommended if you are going to Central Park around the area...
Interesting place. I’m actually trying out a paleo diet, so I walked in because of their Tapioca crepes. I also ended up trying their yucca sticks, which are like fries. This stuff was great. I had the carnitas. They add a ton of pork. The yucca fries were actually good. Even if I was not on this paleo diet, I would have enjoyed it. It was different and good. Oh, and their coffee is good too. It’s from Irving farms.Space - small place. Most tables are for two people but you can fit 4 on some.Prices - somewhat reasonable.Service - staff was friendly.Food - see above. I liked it. Warning, it’s different.Families - tough to fit a large family and I don’t see my kids loving this food. But it’s up to you!Caution: No bathrooms!
When I lived in NYC this was one of the places I regularly got cravings for. This is so good. And healthy! 🤩 I almost always had the salmon crepe but all of the ones I tried were delicious. Don’t miss out on this place. The only think I didn’t like was the loud music so I didn’t really enjoy sitting inside there. But the food is worth it 👌
LOVE TAP! So excited for an easy alternative to gluten! Their cheese breads are to die for! I ordered the salmon sandwich, it was so good. The vegan cream cheese was a good flavor but strange consistency when it was heated. Couldnt really understand putting vegan cream cheese with smoked salmon lox slices, but it was yummy!
I was so disappointed with this place. I got one of the wraps and I don’t know how it tastes in the restaurant but by the time I got home, about 15 minutes after buying it, the wrap was rockhard and scraped the top of my mouth in a painful way so I had to just eat the fillings out of it and throw away the wrap. I have to say that the tapioca cheese puff that I got was really good. I was really disappointed with the main course and it was basically a waste of money as mostly it was inedible.
I have 2 family members who are gluten free and 2 who are not... And we all found TAP NYC to be incredible. The cheese bread was an awesome appetizer and I highly recommend the Lox and Cream Cheese. Next time Id get the Wrapioca instead of the crepe but it was all good.
I love their pao de queijo, we go to Brooklyn for it sometimes. Now I know where to find it in nyc. The uws location has frozen pao de queijo and if you’ve never tried Brazilian food and/or your gluten free you must try this place. This is the mushroom crepe (made from gluten free tapioca flour)
Recently Tap NYC quietly changed the sizes of their acai bowls to be SIGNIFICANTLY smaller while still charging the same prices. Comparing what you get to what is on their menu display, you can easily tell youre being ripped off. The largest monster bowl is now in the cup that their smaller bowls were in, while the 2 smaller ones were made EVEN smaller. I was assured it was the same, which is blatantly wrong, but even if they were the same volume, the amount of fruit and other toppings you get are way less than what was given about a month ago. On top of that, the staff always seems disorganized and more often than not youll need to remind them that you havent gotten parts of your order that they simply forgot about.
Was really excited to try this place as I’ve missed crepes since going gluten free…but these definitely are not typical crepes and do not fill the void. It was interesting to try something new but is overpriced and very meh. Same with açaí bowl, one of my least favorite I’ve tried before
Had the goats cheese and mushroom wrap- great brunch item & very filling meal. It was delicious and the kind of gluten free food that is just plain good for its own sake, not a sad imitation of something it can’t be. I loved the chewy/crispy texture of the wrap. Will definitely come back to try other things.
I found the menu to be very unique and full of variety. You want sweets? They have it. You want savory? Oh yes they have that too. I loved their acai bowl with nutella and their salmon biscuits. Drool. The salmon biscuits were also so well priced, I thought they made a mistake at first lol.
I order from here frequently but was very disappointed on my recent order of 2 items through Uber Eats.. The organic chicken crepe was missing the tomato and the açaí bowl was missing the strawberries. I took the time to go back to the store and while the manager (?) apologized she then said “these things happen” and I should just accept that. No offer of credit or a real apology. Really- you run out of ingredients that are in the dish and makes it taste the way it’s supposed to and your response is “it happens”!
Amazing amazing amazing tapioca! For those who had never tried it before and for all the Brazilian who miss this wonderful typical food from Brazil, it is really really worth the visit! Not only do they have all types of tapioca (I had the avocado with egg on top with a salad on the side) , but they also have Açaí, which I love and the decor and staff are really nice and welcoming! I am definitely going back there again when I visit NYC!
I love TAP!! The best tapioca crepes and pão de queijo sandwiches in NYC! Glad we moved a couple blocks away and are able to come all the time 😍Service is impeccable and place is very clean and organized. Kitchen is quick and everything is so fresh and delicious!Thank you guys
They serve tasty tapioca very well done made with good ingredients. If you’ve never tried tapioca before that can be something different and quite an acquired taste. It’s gluten free, crunchy and soft at the same time and a good alternative to bread or tortillas.I find it quite expensive considering that in Brazil tapioca is a street food, simple and cheap. One might not be very fulfilling, so you probably will wanna get 2 of those and that can be a bit expensive.Love the fact that they are offering Brigadeiro Bakery goods now!
Ordered here for a while and typically really great food. They forgot to put goat cheese on both orders however and the salmon today tasted vastly different (worse) than in the past.Dropped the ball today pretty hard but willing to order again.*Edit. Ty for the response. I understand and look forward to ordering again!
Staff was great, beverages in the front were warm and my warm sandwich was slightly cold on the inside. Definitely one of the few Brazilian places in the city which offer an array of cultural dishes. Sort of a let down for my wife who is from Brazil and was slightly underwhelmed. Might go back for another try 🤷🏽♂️
Great new spot! Had a great evening there with my friends. The decor was spellbinding. The staff was up to par with a Five Star restaurant (always smelling in your direction). By the time I tried one of their brazilian Tapiocas (GLUTEN FREE), specifically the Vegan, I never wanted to leave. Great location.
I havent seen a restaurant with 4.9* rating before with 50+ reviews so high hopes - but this place is completely average. Its a coffee shop essentially that sells tapioca sandwiches that cost $10. Ive never had one before but theyre basically white tasteless cardboard (that looks like polystyrene). We had one with cheese and tomato which was literally just a slab of cheese with 4 slices of tomato. For $10.I wonder if the reviews below are real with so many people only have 1 review, all left 4 months ago and saying similar things!
For the first time since my diagnosis, I could walk in some place and eat literally anything I want- the whole joint is gluten free. The bread is super cheesy and yummy. I had a pulled steak sandwich and it was to die for. If I lived closer I would be back often. Until next time....
Absolutely delicious food and lots of great healthy options; would have given it five stars, except they don’t let customers use the restroom! Upon inquiry, I was told that the State deemed it wasn’t up to code and they had to either re-do it or lessen the number of tables. Personally, I would have gone with redoing the bathroom for customer’s convenience (and frankly, necessity—after drinking all that coffee!!).
Very nice spot!! I loved the cappuccino with latte art, served with a little carrot cake on the side! Besides that the tapiocas are amazing and actually at a very good price! I had one with organic chicken and it was great! I recommend trying the Brazilian brigadeiro as well.
Delicious healthy food in the heart of UWS! Very friendly service and amazing atmosphere. The peanut butter and banana tapioca is just incredible, a must-have! The açai bowl with strawberry and nuts is also quite tasteful. Will definitely come back many times for breakfast, lunch or a snack post-workout.
Best açaí bowl in NYC!I LOVE a good açaí bowl and have tried a good number of them throughout NYC - TAP has my favorite by far. The Monster Açaí bowl is only $12 and comes with unlimited toppings (fruit, granola, cocoa nibs, etc). The cheese bread is also top notch.Fast friendly service, good amount of seating inside and a cute little patio out front. Highly recommended!
They have excellent food. I recommend the Parla. It is Swiss cheese, prosciutto and arugala folded into the talicoa crepe. I prefer it without mustard. I recommend the Pao de Queijo as well. They label it as Cheesebread for the blanquitos. It is excellent and almost always fresh, because it sells out quickly. Definitely eat at this place!
Best Brazilian inspired-food and coziest place Ive been to in NYC in ages!As a Brazilian whos constantly in NYC, Ive been dreaming of a place like this in ages. Incredibly tasty blend of healthy + comfortable Brazilian food! Perfect for New Yorkers - both homesick Brazilians and natives who want to explore the best my country has to offer. Got to meet the owner during the weekend and considering his talent, team, and the atmosphere theyve created Im sure this will be a summer rave. Ill be back every single day Im in NYC to eat the one and only tapioca worth eating in town! Congrats!
The food is good and the place is nice. If you want to grab something and go, it is great for it! However, dont count on this, only checking the website hours. TAP is extremely inconsistent and gives you the impression that they open it when they feel like it, and it happens pretty much every morning.
Ive been getting iced cortados all over city for 5 years and only question Ive ever been asked is how much milk would you like in there?! I know many people who order them! Never a problem. I dont mind that woman at register wasnt sure what to charge etc so asked someone else but when that person then acted like it was I was asking for something extraordinary, plus saying he has to charge extra because I said its usually just a little more milk than a cortado (I didnt even insist on the extra milk as I could see it was an issue!) and seemed annoyed and unhappy with my request, I thought this is just bad service. Then he handed it to me without a word when I said thanks! I was in the food industry and know people who continue to be and no one I know or have ever encountered would care that much over a few mls of milk! Or act with hostility. Not only will I never go there again but Ill be telling others. Its not rocket science.. its a drink! And a smile and positive demeanor would have equaled a tip, positive review and telling people to frequent the establishment.
The location is cool and seating is good. But prices are higher than I expected. The Acai I had was Small but really good. Expensive probably due to the high overhead to have a place like this in New York. It was good to try, but not a place I would think is a must go back to visit for me.
One of my favorite places, but... one of their baristas pretty much always messes up my orders (sometimes I have to go and pay extra for things I still want to have in my acai bowl), but today it was kind of enough of this, so I mentioned to her (her name is Lu) that she added things that I don’t want (also my friend did not get what he wanted). So once I did that, she simply goes: “no one likes you here and don’t tell me how to do my job”. Takes my bowl and dumps it... wow!Well she did another one for me with lots of attitude and commenting on how annoying I am to her and everyone else. This is unacceptable...I will leave it here just to make someone take a responsibility for their costumer service improvement. Even though the rest of people who works there are really nice. But food is amazing, no complains about this part.
Very nice place, great location and decor! The staff is very friendly and deliver orders expeditiously! I tried the tapioca, acai, the expresso coffee and the brigadeiro. I liked them all but definetly the tapioca was my favorite! Very good meal at reasonable price! No doubt it will be added to one of my favorite places.
Very upsetting. Had an allergy attack to something in my food and they didnt care, didnt offer me a refund or offer to make something else. I was very clear about my allergies. Also, when you go to a gluten free establishment you like to hope they are super aware of allergies and possible contamination of other foods you are allergic too in their pots etc. They couldve cared less and I will not be going back.
I used to go there often when they first opened for their matcha and GF options. Felt like my kinda place. Then they decided to not let customers use their bathroom. ??? How are you a cafe/ restaurant that serves coffee, tea and food and not have a bathroom?! I never went back.
Today I visited TAP NYC at Columbus and 72st. Upper West. Just to taste a delicious AÇAI. But , in addition to the Açai , i had a delicious coffee , some brigadeiros (brazilian chocolat) and pao de queijo ( cheese bread) , and a TAPIOCA. !!! My God !!!!!!! Excelent !!!! And excellent prices ! And the ambient !!! I will go there every day !!

2022-01-22Food was okay taste wise, but definitely worth trying considering it’s gluten free. I got the mushroom and cheese tapioca sandwich. Pricey, given its size and lack of sides, for $15-$17 after tip.Was disappointed by the nonchalant attitude of the person taking my order (and staff in general). It was straightforward from their menu- no edits. Even Starbucks tries to be more caring when placing an order! Plus, food was served without even water or cutlery. Had to ask for every little thing. No restrooms, even though it’s a decent sized place. Won’t be coming back anytime soon! Especially considering the number of wonderful restaurants with great service in the area.

2022-04-30When looking for GF options, especially in such a big city, a designated 100% Gluten Free place gives me such peace of mind. TAP NYC checked a lot of boxes for me!

2021-08-25Delicious Brazilian, tapioca based food! 100% gluten free so no worries for celiacs. I had a sandwich and shared some of the cheese bread. Would definitely recommend for a quick and surprisingly filling lunch!

2021-11-18We come for the cheese tapioca rolls, which are heavenly warm, soft delicious rolls that melt in your mouth! Almond milk latte was surprisingly good for a place that is not primarily a coffee shop… Not too sweet and quite good!

2022-05-01I LOVE Pao de Queijo. I have a few Brazilian friends and have asked them to teach me how to make them. These ones were delicious, I’d say even better than my homemade ones

2022-03-30Great place! If you’re looking for some Brazilian treats this is a place that I would definitely come back to when in NYC. Great quality food and the portions are big as well. Don’t forget to order one of the pão de queijos!

2021-10-25I was disappointed with this place. The $12 açaí “bowl” didn’t even have an entire fruit serving on the top of it and the granola was rock hard. The artificial sweetener was over powering and the “bowl” was served in a cup. I had a cheese roll which was good but I wouldn’t come back here. Also the outdoor tables could use a wipe down, they were not clean.

2022-02-15Why travel all the way to Brazil lol when you can have delicious pão quiejo (cheese bread) in nyc! So happy this little gem of a place is in my neighborhood. I wake up craving their Power Smoothie (organic açaí, banana, strawberries, cocoa nibs, almond butter, vegan protein powder). So delicious! and I could never just have one cheese bread lol it’s perfect. I love how toasty it is and served warm. Yummy!

2021-12-06They have Pão de Queijo! That was worth it, although it was a bit too crispy on the outside the inside was just right. The coffee was okay but not the highlight

2022-02-06Delicious food and great service always. One of my favorite places to stop for lunch for a wrap or grab cheesy bread as a snack. It’s hard for me to find good gluten free options that are just as tasty! This place hits the spot every time
