I chose this hotel to spend the night before my wedding day and it was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had at a hotel. We chose to stay in the King Mansion, which depicts an entirely different room from what we were given and thought to had reserved. False advertisement ! Very, very dated, historic doesn’t describe it. We were shoved ALL the way on the top/ floor/attic! The aroma smelt less than appealing. (Trying to be respectful, while leaving honest constructive feedback!) We requested a trinket or note of some sort just to make the night feel special as it was our wedding night and nothing of sort was available. In addition, we booked rooms for the wedding party, which were separated miles apart! The entire experience was terrible and I honestly wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. Let’s not mention how long it takes for Administration to connect with you regarding your concerns. NEVER AGAIN.
We have been staying at Tarrytown House Estate for years. We normally come here every fall for the Halloween activities in Sleepy Hollow. I am writing this review months later because I have been trying to get a response from management but nobody has gotten back to me. We stayed in the Kings Mansion and it was a nightmare. The room was filthy and the balcony still had trash on it from the previous guest. The wall paper on the ceiling was FALLING OFF and hanging down above the bed. The hotel was also out of hand soap our entire duration there... We called the front desk about the wallpaper and they were going to send someone out but never did. We tried asking multiple times for soap and everyone we spoke with said they did not have any. They only had body was for the shower... This was completely unacceptable for how much we paid for the Kings Mansion. We normally come in a large family group but we are done with this hotel.
I stayed at this hotel back in October for my friends wedding, and I have to say, I was very disappointed with my stay and the booking process. I had requested a room with a king size bed several months before. I never received a confirmation email, so I called the next day to make sure I would have a room when the time came. I was on hold for half hour, before getting someone who told me they were in the middle of filming a commercial and promised to call me back and never did. I then called back the next day to be on hold again for another half hour, and when someone answered, they transferred me to another line, where I was on hold yet again. I called a third time and finally spoke with someone who was able to provide a confirmation number so I could see my reservation on the website and be assured Id have a room the night of the wedding. When we arrived, we were placed in a room with two full size beds, and the safe, air conditioning, and a light fixture were not working. We had no time to change rooms, but I did let the front desk know and they sent someone to at least fix the air conditioning for the evening. The next morning when we checked out, I spoke with someone else at the front desk about the issues. She told me she couldnt do anything about it, but she gave me the email address for the manager. I emailed her the next day and she didnt respond. I followed up with two more emails and some phone calls in the following weeks/months and I have not heard anything back. I was trying to give them a chance to make this right before I left my review, but that didnt work.I travel often and seldom complain, but when Im paying $220 for an overnight stay, I expect higher standards than a motel. Ive stayed at this establishment before for a work event in 2014 and had a great experience, but this may as well have been a different hotel.
Whenever I started a review, I always start with five stars and deduct as I encounter negative aspects. Tarrytown House estate I think is just overrated. While the grounds and buildings are beautiful, the landscape layout created a physical challenge. Since the entire site is built on a mound/hill, some buildings first floor in the front is a third floor in the rear. If you have a physical challenge you need to make sure you get the main building and first floor room. My brother stayed on the third floor in Kings mansion and the stairs are challenging for him due to age and a bad heart. No elevators to help. There is one in my building (Putnam) but it’s just not usable when you come from the lobby. My room was very spacious. I had a separate living room with sofas and chairs. Now here comes the deductions… I have no microwave in the room. My son who was in the presidential suite has one but it appears regular rooms have no microwave. There is a refrigerator and Keurig machine however. Other deductions for an old leak on the ceiling unpainted and the largest deduction for a shower in the bathroom with no accessories to place soap and shampoo. I have never seen a hotel shower stall without some sort of a small platform to place a soap bar or shampoo. I had to put mine on the floor! The walking in this hotel is just ridiculous and the worst designed roads. All roads are one way only. So if you miss a building or parking lot, you have to exit the entire estate and re-enter. I picked up my niece from the front lobby and I could not go to the building Biddle Mansion without exiting the estate and re-entering. Parking is very short especially on a weekend when people are visiting the Goosefeather restaurant. I noticed in front of this restaurant the lack of enforcement of the handicap parking spots. Even the hotel vehicle took a handicap spot -everyday. Not cool and disrespectful. But this hotel lost all its stars when on Monday morning, a workday, at 7:30 am, I cannot find coffee in the lobby. Definitely not a fan and will stay at the Marriott the next time I’m in Tarrytown.
When we come to town to see our daughter at West Point, we love to stay. It’s lovely and quiet. We can see the Hudson from our room. It’s less than an hour from everywhere we go for fun....NYC, West Point, Greenwich and of course Tarrytown . We’ve eaten at Goosefeathers and it’s funky and really tasty. Super flavors. Great beer and wine menu. We do prefer the historical nostalgia the grounds and buildings offer. Thanks guys and glad you made it through the Rona season!!!
Property was beautiful... Leaking pipe in hallway sucked. Double charged for my room. Paid once though booking.com and again when i got there. Website showed balconies and river view.. What a joke no balconies no water view. The wine cellar was closed because of a wedding. Halloween it was closed and the other bar closed a 8pm because it was a holiday. The staff was very nice.
Unfortunately, this hotel did not live up to my expectations. My girlfriend and I were super excited to stay here and it seemed like an awesome place, but it turned out to be a bust.First, the rooms are not “4 star hotel” quality. The thermostat in our room didn’t even work and it was pretty cold.Second, the parking is atrocious. We came back to the hotel around 10:30 and drove around the hotel through every lot three times and still couldn’t find a spot. They were having a wedding and the restaurant had valet service, but that’s no excuse. If you can’t accommodate your guests who are PAYING to stay at your hotel with a parking spot then that’s unacceptable. We paid close to $300 for the night and it wasn’t worth a fraction of that.I will add that the hotel staff was really nice when we checked in, that’s the only good thing I can say.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Terrible hotel. We arrived to our room and the rug wasn’t vacuumed. I found hair clips on the floor and one of the bed wasn’t made… with taxes the room costed $410!!! The pool is also closed. We tried to find food but restaurant was outsourced and no reservations available. You can’t use the outdoor tables and fire pit bc they are for restaurant guests only. We order room service and it’s been an hour with no food yet.Beware of this place. It’s a scam.PS: the lobby guy offered us free breakfast nonetheless Tarrytown House is one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed, ever.
Positive: I love this this beautiful house and grounds. Best part: a gracious, friendly, caring staff. the room was large and comfortable. The gardens and flowers are gorgeous. I will definitely go back. Negative: At this time, all restaurants were closed. I was told they will reopen soon. Also note, there is no elevator in the 1840 house and steps are steep.
Beautiful pictures online. Booked the most expensive room for balcony overlooking the Hudson. Restaurant below our room and outside our balcony blaring music every afternoon around 4:00 until 10:00pm. They refused to turn it down. Felt like we were above a night club. The hotel management has absolutely no control over what the restaurant does. Manager at restaurant was rude and abrasive when we asked if they could turn things down a bit.We were really looking forward to our stay and have had a horrible stay. Will never recommend this spot to anyone. Seemslike they do not care about the guest’s comfort at all. I think they should refund our money.
If your staying here for any reason than you have to for an event, you’re wrong! What a terrible place to stay! I have to say the staff at the front desk was the hardest to interfaced with compared to every hotel I’ve ever stayed at. The room had two beds, but they were at different heights! And the bathroom was like a prison; it didn’t have a place to even hang a towel. Heck, the room was impossible to access without going up or down a flight of stairs. Try carrying all those bags up and down multiple flights. The parking was generally full and far from the room. When asking the staff about where our wedding evens were located, they played dumb and didn’t help at all. They didn’t even try to find out. Even the brunch (which was paid for) was impossible to convince the staff that it actually was paid for. After citing the contract which was signed between the wedding party and the hotel did we finally get access to brunch. The staff as unfriendly and uniformed, the price was high, my door to my bedroom didn’t work and I had to obtain a maintenance key, the amenities were poor, and everything was just a challenge. If your staying here for any reason than you have to for an event, you’re wrong!
I was booked to stay here. However, unfortunately, I had to cancel (morning of our stay) due to possible covid. The third party booking company told me no refund was possible. However, I called the hotel directly and the lovely manager told me it was no issue at all to refund. It was SO appreciated. I look forward to getting to come back and experience this place when everyone is well!
Nice grounds and nice facade. The rooms are awful. So outdated and cheap looking. The bathroom and the toiletries are a joke. The shower is the size of a phone booth. We have called twice for the room to be cleaned and nobody has come by. And there’s no confusion about a “do not disturb” sign being on the door because we didn’t have one! We’re at $500 per night for a suite and it’s a joke. Terrible experience.
We checked in and the lobby was beautiful, it looked newly renovated, the grounds of the estate were also very nice however, when we checked into our room there appeared to be water damage and what appeared to be black mold growing in the walls. The hotel hallways smelled of mildew and we also heard other guests complain about this. I would not recommend this hotel and is more than likely my last time staying here. This would all be expected if I were staying at a cheap side of the road motel but when the hotel reaches a certain price point of course youd expect a certain level of decency upkeep and cleanliness.
I have to add to my previous review. If you want to stay somewhere that you can find a parking place that isn’t a mile away, do not stay here! Weddings obviously take priority here. Also, our room keys have been cut off two days in a row and we’ve had to go back and get re-keyed after walking in the rain to get to our room. I don’t normally post reviews but this place is very disappointing and customer service is NON existent! I would be fired if I treated guests this way and I would deserve it!
One of the worst hotels I have stayed in in quite some time. Surprise resort fee for absolutely no amenities. Parking far from building. No elevators to rooms. Ugly decor, a security lock that was falling off the door, cabinet doors with loose hinges that didnt close properly, enamel worn off in the shower and, worst of all, no hot water for a shower! I had the hotel engineer try to convince me that it was normal for the water to be that temperature (literally, not even warm) so at that point, I threw everything back in my suitcase and departed for a room at a nearby Marriott where the hot shower was delightful and the beds much more comfortable. This place is a disaster.
Positive: Room size was adequate, grounds were pretty. Negative: The pictures make it seem like you will stay in a castle when in reality you have a room that looks like a motel that is attached to the two bigger houses on the property. I had used toiletries in my room.
With my reservation confirmation I got the following information: Resort Fee Overnight accommodation is subject to a Resort Fee of $20 per night.Unfortunately I did not check my bill right away properly and recognized later that I was billed with a Resort Fee of $25 per night. So I wrote an email (reservations@ter...) - no response. A week later I tried to contact the hotel with a facebook message - no response. The hotel itself is OK. location, location, location. Our room was clearly outdated but clean. We requested to get new towels (no hooks/rack in the bathroom to keep the towels) and to restock the coffeemaker and housekeeping did a good job with that.
We booked our stay here about a month in advance and were so excited. They were booked for Halloween weekend so we ended up staying at the Marriott first and then switching here for our last two days and I’m upset we did so.To start, our reservation was “never pushed through” so we had to be booked upon arrival even though I had already paid in full. When we got to our room it was dirty. There was smears of something next to the trash can in the bathroom, mildew on the fridge handle, lotion bottle from the previous residents, caulking peeling in the shower, and none of the windows worked. It was just disappointing to say the least for the price we paid. When we arrived home, I saw that our card was charged again for the room that I had already paid for a month in advance. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. It is a gorgeous property but the rooms do not match and the cost is not anywhere in line with the lack of cleanliness, amenities, or capabilities of this place.
Visually the property is stunning. Thats where the 4 stars end. The inside smells like a funeral parlor and its decor makes you feel like youre in one. My room in the Fairfield building was jammed shut. When I was finally able to enter the room it seemed like it hadnt had inhabitants in awhile. When I turned on the AC/heat unit it started to spark and smoke. The phone in the room didnt work. The lady at the front desk made it seem like it was my fault and made me wait for them to send an engineer to the room before they changed my room. Eat before checking in. No food service until 5pm and any delivery will take over an hour. I was there for a wedding. This is not a place for heels. Bring flats! The planner seemed frazzled and disorganized. Overall its one of those NY places you can say you visited and never go back.
I booked a room here for my friends wedding. They don’t send a confirmation email so I accidentally booked the room twice and I’ve been trying to cancel the second booking for a month now. Emailed the hotel reservations line (and a specific room block contact) multiple times with 0 response. It’s honestly shockingly bad service. When I do finally get through to them I plan to cancel both bookings now as they don’t deserve my business!
Parking is plentiful. The grounds are great to walk and meditate. The restaurant had a few options and the wings were good. The rooms had plenty of space, but the bed was a bit squeaky. It has an adult pool but it was closed early unfortunately. You will need Wifi because cell phone service is terrible.
One word. Nightmare. If I could give zero stars I would. We booked 40+ rooms for our wedding and had the most awful experience possible working with hotel management. I don’t even know where to begin. So I will just list off SOME of the terrible things that happened which took valuable time and focus away from our guests and our own wedding weekend:1. The planner for the room block and hotel activities was almost non existent. She would go weeks without responding to calls or emails. We had severe penalties for notmeeting our room block quantity but could never be given details about how many more rooms we could book or how many had been booked. Literally the least professional person I’ve ever dealt with. She would routinely forget key details of our wedding plan and would make us have to renegotiate prices and then deny us any leeway in negotiation.2. The day before the Friday night event in which we rented out a lounge on the property, the planner said that she forgot all of the details including the agreed upon rate for the event itself and the cash bar. Beer prices were more than at a baseball stadium.3. My bride-to-be and I show up after a 10hour day setting up our DIY venue and the staff didn’t have a record of us booking our room.4. They give us our key card up to the room we were promised (with a balcony overlooking the Hudson) and the key didn’t work. The next key works but we walk in on Uncle Ronny who was, luckily, clothed. Hotel staff didn’t even know if someone was in the room.6. My wife’s dad is very disabled and can barely walk. We previously worked out having him stay in a handicap accessible room and were very clear how important this is. He showed up and there was no record of this and they put him in a normal room. He was unable to use the bathroom and barely made it to the wedding rehearsal because he was so tired from walking up steps.7. A electrical cover was not attached in the front lawn and an 80+ member of our family with Alzheimer’s fell backward very hard and was caught before her head hit a curb. See pictures. If anyone were to stand on the left side, it rotates and buckles. Not supported at all. Definitely a code violation and we are lucky she didn’t end up in an ER. I personally put a cone over it so no one else would get injured.8. A large number of our guests had selected king beds and were given twins, even though they booked 6 months ago. Recent bookings had their king beds honored.9. My now Mother-in-law’s room had a flood and they had to come bring fans to dry the carpet.10. The beautifully lit lawn with chairs was a perfect place for my newly arrived guests to mingle on Thursday night until the sprinklers came on and soaked everyone. When asked if they could be turned off, they said “that’s out of my control” which is the answer we got when we encountered any problems. The staff have no room to accommodate guests—or so that’s what they say.The stock apology message I will get in response to this post will not justify the horrible service—I would appreciate if someone from the corporate entity reach out to me so we can discuss our stay. The property is stunning (5 star). The management is going to drown whatever investment that corporate has made into this property. This place is THE WORST. All of the recent reviews are 1-2 star. See the pattern?
Beware this property only Cares about making $$$$! It also doesnt follow State Covid Mandates. I tested positive for Covid on Wednesday. My reservation was for Christmas Eve. They wouldnt refund my reservation. I guess they expected me to go to the hotel and give everyone Covid. What a great Christmas!
Positive: Ambiance, location along with hotel employees were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Also, a middle aged, tiny Latina lady working all over the place was really nice. Asking us if we needed anything. Negative: The outside terrace overlooking the pool had food containers strewn all over? Party? The young life guard was late to open the pool and sat on his phone playing something the whole time on a lounge chair. I didnt need him, but glad no one else did either
Beautiful and elegant venue. The rooms were clean. Sanitation was taken seriously. The TV remote was sanitized and wrapped in plastic when we arrived. Social distancing and mask compliance throughout the entire estate. The staff was really friendly and helpful. The grounds were well kept and beautiful. Peaceful and relaxing.
I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with lack of accessibility. I have nerve damage in my foot, what a pleasant surprise it was to find the 3 minute walking path to my building and bullion flights of steps with no concierge service. The doors aren’t automatic, so I had a great time trying to open 2 sets of manual doors with my bags and suitcase. There is a $25/night resort fee…but in the winter, there’s not much you can do on the resort besides the gym, indoor pool is closed…which makes no sense. Breakfast buffet is open, but it’ll be $25, room service is available with 18% gratuity in addition to $10 room service fee. The rooms are severely dated; the doors aren’t fire rated, so make sure you push it closed behind you. The rooms also smell dated, like grandmas basement, the paint was peeling in my bathroom and the walls are so thin you can hear your neighbors conversations. If I wasn’t a desperate healthcare worker needing a place to stay while I work, I would have cancelled my stay
It looks beautiful from the outside but the experience and the room was nothing close to that.Upon arriving they couldn’t find our reservation. After they found it an hour later, we checked into our room and it was seriously underwhelming. The rooms are in buildings separate from the reservation desk and the reason is clear: they don’t want to reveal the mediocrity of what is in store for you: dingy carpet, basic walls, the ugliest framed decor and DnD signs that will drive you bonkers! No bathrobes, no slippers, no shampoo. We also found trash under the bedside table. The one highlight: the gym is modern, nice and no one uses it.
Hello,My name is Candese. I had a reservation on 10.15.2021. I am reaching out due to me requesting an accessible room - my boyfriend is in a wheelchair and CAN NOT walk under any circumstances. The estate is nice and the grounds are beautiful, but our room did not have a roll in shower as I requested. I called and made the reservation over the phone to confirm that we would have wheelchair accessible accommodations. I did also ask about the dining and bar options and at NO time was I made aware that the lift to access the bar for wheelchair accessibility was broken. This was very disappointing considering I paid over $300 to stay for the night. As I said the hotel is nice, but the lack of communication and being given a room that was not accessible was extremely disappointing. If I would of been made aware about the accessibility issues I would be more understanding but this was a get away surprise for my boyfriend and I feel I let him down due to not having the right accommodations that I was assured were at this location upon a phone call to book our stay. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.Sincerely,Candese
Positive: The water pressure was nice. Negative: - Charged $200 upon arrival- When we got our room there was fecal matter in the toilet, the floor in the bathroom behind the toilet was wet, and the previous guests items in the shower. - Hair remnants on the bed- There was no microwave.
Tried to book a suite for my Husbands birthday, wound up in a balcony room with a Queen bed. The room was OK, but had several maintenance issues and was not terribly clean (hairs in the shower, trash in the bins). Our biggest issue was that the mini split HVAC would not turn on and it got so hot we chose to sleep with the balcony door open. The manager was very kind when I brought up our complaints, and other staff we encountered was all very kind (except for the staff at the Goosefeather restaurant that we had to walk through to get to our room, they were rude and their room service was super disappointing, especially for the cost). Overall I would maybe give it another chance except for the price. This place has amazing potential and really just needs more TLC and attention to detail.
This place will hustle you every opportunity it gets . Rooms are comparable to a 2 1/2 star motel nothing elegant about it you would think accoringly the prices at rest of the place would be ok too. We thought we were going to new years not spend so much money and just have a little get away but the drinks here are so expensive food is so expensive you would spend so much money on food and drinks and since it’s new years kind of stuck in a corner just did for the sake of doing it but never would come back here again . Be ware of fine print this place will do . It is DEFINITELY A BAIT AND SWITCH PLACE. We were told dinner would be $100 per person 4 course meal still pricy but said hey New Years let’s do it . Then when it came time to pay they said oh that’s just deposit it’s actually 200+ per person !!😅😅😅 it was New Years no one wanted to argue just did it . This place will hit you with prices of real elegant fancy prices and bait and switch you with Groupon prices 😅😅😅. My dad wanted a whiskey they charged him $40 a glass . This place is a rip off they take advantage of people who know can’t say know because it is an occasion like New Years or so . The door on my parents room was little damaged , my parents didn’t complain then they called and said are charging $238. Do not ever stay here , for the price you can play you can get much better deals that are worth it with better staying accomodations if we could do it again would get an elegant AirBnB , order from a well known restaurant buy bottles so don’t get ripped off by crooks like these and have a better time . I hope can prevent another family from getting ripped off then go back to there 2+* room . We could’ve went to Manhattan stayed over night ate and drank and still spend same amount of money . $40 a drink are you kidding me please think wisely
I paid for the room, a double full, online and despite calling several times never received any kind of confirmation (electronic, phone, nada). To get to the room was a journey through a Byzantine maze of staircases and buildings. As soon as I opened the door to the room and took one sniff I could tell that the room could not possibly be clean. There were random hairs laying about. Some of the bed linen had multiple stains on it. One comforter was heavily scented with deodorizer. The comforter on the other bed was not freshly laundered. It was just gross. Also, the sole breakfast option at the hotel on Saturday is the $25 dollar buffet. I just wanted a coffee and to get out of there. Not possible. You have to pay for the buffet and carry any food you want away with you. 👎
Our stay at the Tarrytown House Estates for our wedding weekend was a singularly unpleasant experience. From the start of planning (months prior), to the day we left, the hotel dropped the ball at every step along the way. Weeks would pass without response on issues that needed to be resolved ASAP. When we were there, the staff treated us at times as if our concerns or needs were a massive inconvenience. Rooms we booked & confirmed multiple times had been cancelled or were unavailable. They served lower tier food & beverage packages than what we had paid for, and their response to each of these (and other) issues amounted to a shoulder shrug Huh, sorry about that, oh well, onwards and upwards! And based on the frustrated interactions of other guests for other weddings who we saw that weekend, our experience was hardly unique. Lastly, our attempts to contact the general manager, David Hayes, have been largely ignored, which shouldnt come as a surprise from a hotel that was more interested in providing excuses than service.
The Tarrytown House Estate on The Hudson is an absolute amazing hotel located in Tarrytown, New York.In April of 2022, I brought and treated myself and my wife for a weekend stay at the King’s Mansion at the Tarrytown House Estate, and we highly enjoyed our time and experience. We were graciously welcomed by the hotel’s staff and they did a great job on processing our check in, explaining the hotel’s amenities and services and helped with us bringing our luggage to our hotel room. Our room provided a very comfortable and cozy Queen size bed, spacious closets and a great quality bathroom. Our favorite part of our room at the King’s Mansion was of course the outdoor balcony. Both my wife and I highly enjoyed the superb views of the Hudson River, the Mario Cuomo bridge, and the New York City’s skyline. This was definitely the highlight of our weekend stay!!!In addition to our wonderful room and service, my wife and I also loved the buffet style breakfast that was provided at the Biddle Mansion, which is also located on the estate. The buffet style breakfast include but not limited to scrambled eggs, omelet, baked potatoes, turkey and pork sausage, bagels, and a variety of fruits. Everything was very well seasoned, cooked and highly delicious. We’d like to thank the Tarrytown House Estate for providing us with a wonderful weekend stay and definitely recommend for everyone to visit and stay at this wonderful resort!!!
Positive: Beautiful location and grounds. Negative: Phone in room not working, no microwave,¿pool was supposed to be open at 8AM, was locked at 9:30. No elevators,¿long hike to room. Were kept awake by loud music from outdoor wedding reception. Front desk person very rude.
A perfect mini staycation. Being covid aware because of my job I was super impressed and felt extremely comfortable with their precautions, especially when dining at Goosefeather (which is a must, even among locals). The room was comfortable and clean, and with the recent renovation, the bed, pillows, bathroom, and towels allowed for a great nights rest - the G.H. Christ & Soames toiletries were a nice touch as well. Being a fan of architecture, especially of the Gilded Age, the grounds were a delight to walk and relax. Prior to this, the last time I stayed here was in the mid 90s for a friends wedding and it will not be another 25 years until I come back. Well done!
Wish we could give a review but they canceled the reservation before we could even go. Booked in early July for a stay in October and got an email from our travel agent that the hotel canceled it on our end. My wife called and was placed on hold and didnt get an answer as to why it was canceled except that their system had a glitch and booked to many people.
My wife, daughter and I just returned from a trip to Tarrytown, where we stayed at the Tarrytown House Estate on the Hudson. Although Im fully aware that there are challenges of running a hotel during a pandemic, the experience could have been much better. For starters, the room was not very clean, even by pre-pandemic standards. The window seat cushion was covered with dust, and there were hairs in the shower. Under normal circumstances, this wouldnt be acceptable at a decent hotel, but under current circumstances, I worried about how clean the rest of the room was.We were also disappointed to learn after we had checked in that our 7-year-old daughter was not allowed in the pool (the kid pool was completely closed). We specifically called the hotel before booking the room to make sure the pool was open but no one mentioned the age restriction (you need to be 21 years old to swim). We werent even told at check-in (with our daughter present) about the age restriction. Not until we were in our bathing suites and at the gate to the pool area were we informed. One of the reasons we chose this hotel was because they have an outdoor pool. The last problem Id like to point out is that theres no access to in-room ON-DEMAND movies. Given the lack of options for evening entertainment during the pandemic, youd at least have hoped to be able to watch a movie before bed.We definitely could have chosen better for our first trip away from home since the quarantine began in March.
We thought that we would be staying in an old mansion but our room was located in one of many additions built over the years. As we dragged our luggage down multiple flights of stairs, the smell of mold grew unbearable. The smell was not as bad in the room so we didnt check out but we did not bring my granddaughter to visit and be exposed. After our stay, we discovered an unexpected charge for more than $50. Management ignored requests for explanation. We had to go through a charge back procedure that took nearly six months to resolve.
Instead of writing my story a 2nd time here is the email I wrote the company. Please people do not trust the images posted online.Greetings,I am currently staying at your Tarrytown House Estate location in Tarrytown, NY. I am very unhappy with the room and the buildings here. I’ve had insects in my room(pictures attached), peeling paint, light fixtures that are not completely attached to the wall, bath tubs without caulk(mildew), dirty tile, not leveled headboard, dirty behind the bad(with some OLD plastic wrapper back there).Absolutely horrendous to the point I’ve been purposely trying not to spend time at your facility. I had left my phone at a restaurant for about 24 hours before they had plugged it back in so it had power and I could locate it. When I got my phone back, I noticed there was a message from the FOH manager. I called them back last night and spoke to someone at the front desk and they said a a manager would call me back. I told them I may cut my trip short and may just leave today.I was planning on staying at your location in Saranac, NY(as I said in a precious message to your company), but am now worried with this stay what I’d be in store for. I’ve just signed up with your company and created a profile for this trip in hopes to start staying at your properties in the future. Please see attached photos:
Always the best but thats just my opinion. Not alot of staff but if your self sufficient and dont require alot of service this is the place. Very tranquil secluded from the rest of the neighborhood and sometimes if youre up late enough the deer are just around on the property. Very nice vibes.
The place deserves 10 out of 5. Beautiful, spacey clean rooms coming in a combination with great service and historically meaningful experience.Francisco is the best! Everyone in their team is friendly and knows something interesting. The cocktail I got at Goosfeather was perfectly balanced and refreshing.Swimming pool, garden and all area around is upstanding.Good job♥️ Definitely coming back for another getaway from the city.
Stayed here one night and was very pleased with the view and how clean the room was. However, the toilet was running which I fixed myself and the shower never got hot...not even warm which was my biggest issue. Staying there only one night didnt seem fair to us to have someone in the room to check on these issues. I spoke with the person at the front desk, who said they would have the manager reach out (never did), I emailed back my review that was sent to me and still have had no response from anyone which leads me to the Google review.
Staines on Sheets Mold and Mildew in the bathroom, a pretzel under my nightstand. And a manager that didnt call me.Property is amazing. As I walked in to the front lobby it was clean and inviting. It took the front desk agent a minute to see that we had come in to the building. I thought I was going to get my temp check as I walked in but that was no the case. I got my keys and walked up the stairs to see my room. In the King Mansion.I wish I would have check every then, but I was in to much of a rush to go get dinner. After coming back from dinner we decided to stop at the bar. We had an amazing drinks and a Desert. The staff was so wonderful to talk to. We got to hear about the ghost stories in the hotel. It was almost a perfect anniversary night Tell I got back up to my room and I pulled back the shower curtains in my bathroom only to the MOLD FOR DAYS!! This is not want I expected for the price I paid. It was our anniversary. I had asked for a Recently renovated room. This is not what I had gotten. I just wanted to relax and take a bath before going to bed. But all I could do was look at the MOLD!!! After That I just hopped in to bed not thinking it could get any worse then this!! Boy was I wrong. I woke up and pulled down the sheets wile I was getting out of bed. STAINS I just spent last night sleeping in only to see what I am to believe is cooked in BLOOD STAINS. FRESH BLOOD STAINS And Dirt .upon Inspecting the other parts of the room we Discovered Pretzel underthe nightstand. We pack up ASAP and got out of there. I let the front desk agent know what was going with the room . He told us that a manager would call me. 2 days later and no phone call.. wouldnt go back if they paid me to..
This was one of the worst places I’ve ever stayed at! The lobby was beautiful and the check in staff was very nice, but the room was nauseating. The floor was filthy, under the bed we found dirt, old hair ties, dust bunnies, and stain marks on the walls. The heating/cooling unit was broken and worked a total of 5 minutes. The door wouldn’t open or close without us slamming into it. The walls were so thin that we heard an entire conversation the guests the room next to ours were having. We talked to the worker at checkout and he offered to have the manager call or email us ( how appropriate I know) we waited HOURS and never received a call or email so I called them. The manager said she thought it was already taken care of! She only offered to give us another stay! The guy at checkout did more for us by giving us a small discount on our room! I WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN! Especially with COVID going on right now they can’t even clean the damn rooms. SAVE YOUR MONEY go someplace else.
Beautiful place to stay to get away from everything. Theres 26 acres of well maintained gorgeous land to explore with a sauna, pool, tennis court and more. Our room was super clean and the air conditioning was perfect. Would definitely love to stay again to enjoy the place more.
The room was spacious enough with plenty of desktop and counter space. The service was excellent and expedient, and the grounds were amazing. I was there for a class, but on break I was able to walk the grounds and there was always something beautiful to see. The food was amazing and the buffet offered a great variety of foods - from salads, soups, entrees to desserts and smoothies. There was consistently something for each diet. I am looking forward to staying at the Tarrytown Estate again!
I spent 2 nights here. I will like to believe its the restrictions cos of the pandemic because i was highly disappointed with the Ambience. Having googled and saw how beautiful it was; it felt like a catfish. Besides the Ambience, everything else was Great. Friendly front desk. The restaurant called GooseFeather had a lot of tasty dishes and it was in LARGE PORTIONS. In room-dining was also available from 5pm to 9:30am. Breakfast was unavailable and if you wanter to use the Microwave you gotta go downstairs. The view from my room wasnt the best but anyways it wasnt a bad experience. I rated it 4 cos the Food was the best part of my stay.
My boyfriend and I had Friday night reservations for Blue Hill at Stone Barns so we booked a room here to stay afterward as its about 15 minutes drive away.Check in and check out were easy. The room was good sized, very comfortable bed, and nice hot shower with good water pressure. The price was very good compared to other hotels in the area.Tesla chargers were also a big plus for us!No complaints whatsoever, I would stay here again and recommend it to others.
Spent the weekend at Tarrytown house and it was nothing short of amazing. Everything from check-in, to the special attention given to the room because it was Valentine’s Day was exceptional. The grounds are beautiful!!! A great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life, felt like we were hours away but at a stones throw from NYC. Super special shout out to the folks that checked me in, I believe their names are Lori and Desiree. Both exceptional!!!
Booked with Hotels tonight a week prior and they told me on check in that they were 100% capacity. Then I said I had already paid and they somehow came up with a room and put me and my girlfriend in a double bed room for Valentines weekend. The grounds were nice though in addition to the restaurant Cellar 49. Delicious food, great setting, awesome service. Hotel rooms were dated and dingy though. Id come back if I was attending a wedding but thats it.
The grounds are beautiful and the views amazing. The outside of the hotel is the best part. The room was okay but the lack of signage as to how to get from one part of the building to another or to exit made it very frustrating. Not enough handicap accessibility either and Im not even handicapped! We sat outside at one of the fire pits and watched as the large party seated nearby got lots of waiter service and we werent asked even once if we wanted something. I wanted to order a beverage and never had the opportunity.Service is definitely an issue here.My main complaint was with the breakfast buffet-- eggs on warmers were not hot, dirty dishes were not removed from our table and the coffee service was awful! I would have gotten up to get my own if my husband hadnt asked me not to. The lox was fishy. The butter was unsalted and not salted and little balls of it were piled on top of one another in a bowl with a spoon. Hard to get them out.I would stay there again but not eat there.
Long hallways...definitely not wheelchair accessible, luckily they have a few rooms closer to the main entrance. Indoor pool is nice but not accessible to anyone who cannot walk that far/uses a wheelchair. They have complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby. The room (king bed) was clean. The have really nice grounds. Very historic town.
This was our 3rd annual Board of Directors retreat at this property. There were many refurbished areas, and all was comfortable and well organized. The staff (both back office and on site) were responsive and helpful and we will happily return there next year. Guest rooms were improved in the area we stayed in (one nicety I really missed were bathrobes!). One other minor complaint was how lost everyone seemed to get in finding our way through the maze of buildings. All that aside - this is a perfect setting for the type of meetings we had - our meeting room was comfortable with great Hudson River views; the costs were quite reasonable and the meals provided were good. Note: on site there is a new restaurant (Goosefeather, which was excellent). The grounds are beautiful, the Cellar 49 bar a perfect spot to meet after working; perfect distance from Manhattan. - many many reasons to hold business/professional gatherings here.
Very nice hotel and very nice landscaping.. beautiful place..estate is very big.. so if you have some elderly people with you it might be hard for them to get around.. especially if you want to go to the restaurant and bar.. they are both very good and nice, relaxing and comfortable.. also very clean.. staff is very friendly and helpful.. there is also a pool which is nice..rooms where not what i expected.. they were still a little under construction.. little disappointing.. comfy beds though..
Excellent getaway place. My wife loved the hotel premises and room. Open bar and a little bbq at no extra cost for the guests was a nice touch. Lots of historical and beautiful places around the hotel. I especially recommend the Rockefeller mansion a few miles away. The stuff was friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and comfortable. There was only one weird thing. Im about 511. Average height for the guy. Question for the hotel owners, how come the bathroom mirror is placed on the wall in the way that I can only see my chest and stomach in it?But other then that, the hotel is great. Will come back with friends.
Hubby and I spent a night here in the fall, and it was a wonderful time. Its tucked away in the hills on a sprawling estate, and it was a gorgeous drive. Our room was simple but elegant; I really appreciate a comfy bed. After a wonderful dinner in their terrific little restaurant, we swam in their indoor pool and sat in the hot tub and sauna. We slept like the dead and woke up feeling refreshed and energized. I cant wait to go back!
The area is lovely and the estate is picturesque! The rooms were mostly very nice- comfortable beds, clean facilities over all. The bathrooms in the room could use a bit of attention- ceiling tiles had some rust and mold. But, very little else as far as complaints go. Friendly staff, close to lots of historic house tours, bars & restaurants. Would definitely return!
This place was terrible. Half of it smelled like mold, the beds were very uncomfortable, and the staff was really unfriendly. Our room was so HOT and the AC did not really work. We saw breakfast staff YELL at customers for getting their own coffee (like the other customers we thought it was self-serve because we were halfway through breakfast before anyone showed up). The breakfast was SO OVERPRICED (it was basically a continental breakfast anywhere else with smoked salmon and a mediocre omelet station). Every guest we talked to had some issue (no AC, non-working showers, rude staff, etc.). No one was happy. When we checked out we wanted to verify that we werent charged for breakfast (we were told it was included) and the front desk person LIED to me. When I asked for a print out to confirm, he then said.. oh, yes, you were charged for it. At that point I just paid it because I wanted to get out of that place it was so awful.
This would be a lovely property for a wedding, corporate event or retreat, as it has easy access from the Cuomo bridge/I-87, a lot of outdoor spaces with nice landscaping throughout, and multiple buildings on property with spaces for small, breakout meetings. The accommodations are nice but not old and charming as we hoped it to be. They are just those of a standard, 3- to 4-star hotel, much like youd get at a Hilton or a Marriott. Our room was clean and modern - which is nothing to complain about, just not what we were hoping to find. Many of the main areas are nice while others were in much need of cleaning; I observed some areas of badly stained carpeting in spots, a chair where it looks like someone spilled a glass of red wine, tables and chairs set up from prior events that were not yet wiped down, etc. Sadly, the view from our room was also of a large tree that blocked most of the window.Aside from cleanliness of common areas, the biggest complaint I have is about the resort fee for the lack of extra amenities. For a resort fee of $25/night, effectively, we just got WiFi access. The sauna was closed due to covid-19. Breakfast, of any kind, was not offered. Having stayed with some other hotels within the NY, NJ, PA and beyond areas during covid-19, several others have offered a takeaway continental breakfast (a fruit, a pastry and a yogurt, or some equivalent) or a credit to use for on-property restaurant dining. The outdoor pool was clearly closed for the season but the indoor pool was closed for repairs, although the website said it was still open in spite of covid-19. A paper note taped to the door said closed until further notice and from reading other reviews, it seems to have been out of service at least a few months. This was especially disappointing news for us, since an indoor pool was a key highlight we were looking forward to enjoying and reason for choosing this hotel versus others in the area that were the same price, or less, and without resort fees. Next time, would consider staying at a Hilton or Marriott property for the same, overall experience until limitations on property amenities were lifted.
My fiance and I booked through their website. We paid the extra $10 for breakfast, and it was definitely worth it! The buffet was fantastic! The rooms were clean and the beds were very comfortable. Everyone who worked here was very accomodating. We really enjoyed walking the grounds and having a drink in the restaurant. This place has an old-school estate feel to it (picture something from Clue). Much of the place was under renovations when we visited, but it didnt interfere with our stay at all. It will be stunning when its complete!
Tarrytown House is in the midst of a refresh. Interior and exterior renovations have been underway for weeks. Despite this, my two weeklong trips, the first in April and then again in May, were fantastic. Both trips were for work and I stayed in the newly renovated rooms. Very comfortable and nicely and decorated rooms, supported by great staff.Despite active construction, everything was very smooth and professional. The food is really excellent as well. The only disappointment was the tennis court. It is in need of major repairs, hopefully its on their list of items to update.I highly recommend this spot for events, be they corporate or personal.
It is unfortunate the reception here missed the Customer Service basics class. I was the guest of a frequent visitor to this local and left a piece of art work in the room this past Saturday. I have called hotel 3 times this evening. I explained I had left the art work in the room of one of their guest. He just transferred me where I was on hold for a few minutes then hung up.When I called back, he answered again and I explained to him that I was on hold for a long time when he excused himself saying he was the only one there (not surprising in America) and that he was checking people in. I told him that be should then tell the person on hold this at some point instead of just leaving on hold. I asked for his name and he transferred me again only to end up on same cycle of no answer anywhere. This place is beautiful but the rooms dont match the grounds of estate. My friend insists on coming back here but I am not happy with this incident at all. I cannot believe how hard it is period to get anything in customer care accomplished these days. We are NOT coming back here.
The hotel itself is beautiful, and the rooms are well laid out and super comfortable. The staff is friendly and helpful. Giving it 4 stars only because the shower head in my room was broken and had almost no water pressure. Water was also a bit hard. Good stay overall, and a great value.
Excellent conferencing facility, top-notch rooms and staff, excellent food, meeting rooms were very good also. Grounds are beautifully landscaped. Highly recommended. Only minor thing is that the road down to the facility from the main road is a little twisty, but its a very short stretch, and well worth the effort.
Check in was a little on the slow side, but the grounds are absolutely beautiful. Amazing architecture. We had a place in the atrium and the view of the sunset left us speechless. The service was incredible and the restaurant Refinery 49 was simply delicious. Thank you for the wonderful stay, we will be coming back soon!
Its beautiful here! The best part is its dog friendly. Theres a pet fee, but they left us a barkbox filled with toys and treats in our room. We had buffet style food in their dining room which was pretty good. Theres also an indoor and outdoor pool. Id say the only downside is it was a bit hard to find our room as the layout of the buildings is strange.
Grounds are pretty and food is decent. However, rooms are outdated. The phones they have in the rooms didn’t have direct dial buttons for services, so I get charged for trying to call the front desk because I didn’t see instructions on how to nor know that all you had to do was press 0. Sorry that I’m used to hotels that use new, user-friendly phones. Also, you can hear doors slamming a lot because that’s the only way you can close them.
Amazing venue in every way! We attended a 3 day conference and everything was perfect. Great food, beautiful rooms, picturesque setting, great facilities. They even had to-go boxes at meals so you could eat elsewhere if you liked. Only minor complaint was slow wifi in my room.
Place was completely over priced for what you received. We were also a guest at the hotel which was outdated had roaches. The only nice thing was the pool and the pool attendant was very nice. The kid at the front desk Franchesco was rude and kept messing up our room. Will never stay again
The place is very clean. It’s grounds are beautifully put together. The staff is respectful as well as helpful. Should any issues arise during your stay the staff is readily available to assist. The rooms are comfy and cozy. Might miss a meeting because the beds are so plush. The rooms seem to be sound proof as I heard nothing. Simply a peaceful enjoyable experience
Calm place, cozy but several details can be improved! For instance:Furnishing ironing set that works so that doesnt mess up your clothes (then you provided free laundry), that the fridge doesnt freeze all inside and then melt so that when you open its door does not flood your bathroom, that if you check in at 2am after 15 hours flight with jetlag and youve been told that from your visa itll be withhold an certain amount of money to then discover it was the quadruple..But hey the guys at desk helped out fantastically!
The room is very nice. Large, quiet and very comfortable. The indoor pool and fitness center is also great. Parking can be a bit of a pain especially of you leave the grounds and come back late; youll wind up walking quite a while back to your room. This place is also quite the labyrinth, while there are signs to guide you around, the layout is not very intuitive.
My trip to Tarrytown House was great. I was given a courtesy room upgrade. The upgrade was a much larger room with extra bath accessories. My use of the pool was good. Although the pool could have been better filtered. Overall the grounds were very well kept and my stay was good.
We came here the night after our wedding a few years ago and loved it. Weve wanted to come back ever since. That was a mistake. When we finally returned, the line to check in was out the door. We eventually made it to the counter and they put us in the wrong kind of room and had to move us. They directed us to park in a lot that was full, but because of the one-way roads, we actually had to exit the grounds and re-enter to get back, where we checked the closest lot, which was also full. Finally, someone was able to point us to another parking lot on the opposite side of the grounds. After we walked across to the building we were staying in, we got to our room and found the keys didnt work. I returned to the counter and was given new keys, only to be told that the arrow on the key should point out, not in, when inserting the key in the door. I returned to the room and opened the door, now over an hour after we first arrived on the property, to discover that every light in the room was a bright, florescent white that, even at its most dim, was straining on the eyes. And by this point, it was too dark outside for us to walk the grounds as we had originally intended to do.We received vouchers for complimentary Valentines day drinks at the restaurant, but they did not apply to the Valentines day cocktail menu, only to standard cocktails. After reading the horror stories in the reviews about the complementary breakfast not actually being complimentary, Im terrified of what the morning will bring, and am looking forward to checking out as soon as possible. It was such a disappointment that we dont intend to return again, although we were planning an extended stay later this year. We will now be staying elsewhere.
Parking is terrible. There are no where near enough spaces and the locations are not convenient. I stayed in the Putnam wing so perhaps the other wings such as Westchester are better. The flushing the toilet was very weak. The shower water pressure could use some help also. The room was generally clean and the bed was okay. It was not extremely plush or super comfortable but it was adequate. The room could generally use updating. There were many nice pictures of the historical area which was very nice. The rate was low enough that I suppose it was adequate but there are more comfortable options in the area.
The grounds are pretty, rooms are very simple and corporate looking... I would probably recommend staying in the mansion for more of the historic feel... the heated indoor pool is wonderful! The $25 buffet breakfast is way overrated and not worth it IMHO - head into town for cafe and diner fare so you can enjoy great local food!
Had a company event there and stayed the night. The location is really cool. Obviously the architecture of the buildings is beautiful and the surrounding area is breathtaking. The staff was friendly and patient, although perhaps not the most knowledgeable about what they do and dont have to offer. The rooms were nice, clean. The bar was super cozy and had some nice local IPAs. Overall, great experience.
This place is historic and beautiful at the same time rooms are very up-to-date and the free continental breakfast is amazing.. beautiful grounds with a nice luxurious touch... Weekday prices are good with weekends going up but still not too expensive for what you get
Beautiful grounds with very run-of-the-mill rooms. Its a very romantic atmosphere but the regular rooms stop that dead. Not sure why they didnt at least maintain the aesthetic when they expanded. Overall an enjoyable experience. And if you arent in your room too much, that wont be a big drawback.
Its a nice estate that is well situated with lush greenery, but its a bit old and tired despite some efforts to refresh the rooms. Its not bad, just not anywhere close to a high end of luxury hotel. The staff is very friendly and I had an enjoyable stay. The thing that just seemed out of place were the European style statues in the outdoor areas, which just clash with the rest of the estate. Lovely place as long as you have appropriate expectations.
My stay here was very pleasant! The staff was super friendly and made us feel welcomed. The room was clean and comfortable. I would also like to acknowledge the general manager Joe, who was amazing! He was Friendly & very Professional! I would definitely visit here again!!! 5 Star!
For the past three years my team has had our staff retreat at Tarrytown House. However, our goal is not to return for a fourth year. This hotel has changed so much from 2018 until now. Its become more corporate and has lost its charm. The decor is tacky and doesnt match the aesthetic of the hotel. Furthermore, its hard to tell which design era theyre hoping to achieve. The customer service was unforgivable. The staff is unorganized and lack concern or empathy for how their actions affect the hotel guests. The only thing that remained unchanged was the breakfast, which doesnt merit booking another stay.
Affordable and plenty to see. Even though we stayed here for a night. We had a great experience and staff was very helpful. I forgot my toothbrush and they shipped it to my home after we left. I dont think they have a breakfast included in the reservations, but its so close to the Hudson line and this train can take you to grand Central were you can go have a good time in central park and have some food and drinks
Location is beautiful and nice. Good views. It is meant for small weddings for about 100 people or less. One of the biggest issues is the small space. Cocktail hour is held in small rooms with no place to sit, only a few tables for so many people. Second biggest issue was the food, it was acceptable in cocktail hour. But in the main event, the food on just awful. The salad was just a bunch of leaves with balsamic vinegar, crappy presentation. The steak we all ordered was not properly cooked for anyone. No one received the right cook on their steak. And it tasted terrible as well. Dessert was also uninspiring. The tables were basically empty all the time.
The location was easily accessible. The staff was amazing. They were accommodating to my family. The rooms were spotless and nicely decorated. The grounds were lovely. The indoor family pool, racquetball court and jacuzzi were so much fun. My family had a great time. I highly recommend this hotel and because of the amazing service provided, we plan to return.
Booked a weekend stay in the King Mansion rooms, top floor for the view. To say that these rooms were a let down is an understatement.Sparsely furnished, (one of the closets didnt even have a pole to hang clothes—just one simple shelf)No usb charging ports, not even an outlet to plug it into.Bed was hardFruitflies in the bathroom drove me madAlso you should be made aware, the king manor bedrooms are all up two to three flights of stairs. No elevator or handicap accessLastly, the restaurant is very popular and crowded. At night the parking lots become very full. We got back to the property from a full day in town—and had to park on the opposite part of the compound. We had to go to the front desk to get new keys (they stopped working after the first day) we suggested to the desk clerk maybe they wanted to consider saving a few spots for the hotel guests. He said there were spots, even though they were in the “lower lots”. Yeah, great, thanks bud.I wont be back. Between the room and the staff—just not my cup of tea.
We spent 4 days here for a long getaway weekend and enjoyed the spectacular views of the Hudson River from the grounds. The restaurant was fabulous and we would stay here again when visiting the area. We also took the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery Saturday night tour which was fabulous!
Great place to stay at. Loved the surroundings. Very clean. The front desk was exceptional. They were always willing to help us out. Special thanks to Karen Sanchez. She was willing to help us out and was patient with her questions. And no, we do not know her. We just met her the same evening we got there.
This is not a 4-star hotel. It may have been at one point. Now it is a sprawling business hotel that probably does a decent wedding business but just isnt keeping up with chains or boutiques. The staff seemed somewhat disinterested. The signage in the far flung buildings was terrible - it was unclear where main exits were and how to get from our room to reception for a car service. Getting to and from our room required more thought than youd expect. And the room itself - just not that nice. The paint was coming off the bathroom walls. The bed was not that comfortable. And its not like this place is much of a bargain either. For a hotel positioning itself at an upscale traveler, it is a major disappointment.
I am FULLY DISAPPOINTED with my stay at Tarrytown Estate. However I will start with the good. The FOOD is fantastic. Cellar 49 is a great place to eat the price is easily on par with the quality and to top it off the special is only fraction of the cost up to 9pm. The breakfast buffet was also fantastic for its price. It had everything and the food was cooked well and tasted great. It was a wide selection and enough to have something for everyone. The grounds are beautiful outside of the modern hotel building lodges. Check-in building was gorgeous.BADSPillows and Bed truly was terrible, my back is hurting me a few days after my stay. The Outlet blew a fuse and I woke up to an uncharged phone.Toilet clogged after a small amount of use and nothing big, I can admit to something being my fault but this was not something I did.Coffee Machine but no Microwave, Refrigerator but no utensils. Romantic Setting but no extra glasses for wine.AC/Heat Unit was antiquated and discolored and the air quality was a bit below par as the room had a musty smell. The shower had pour pressure and it was fairly confusing (if they had pictures of the bathroom on the website i would have never went). The bed linens were cheap, sweaty and uncomfortable.I paid extra for the deluxe room and the staff that told me about it on the phone said that it provided a View of the Courtyard - it provided a view of a pine tree in the back facing the Hudson River, not the courtyard. The wife liked the indoor pool and spa, I personally found it to be a bit antiquated but with that said we got to spend most of the time there without crowds.ALL IN ALLIf i would do it again I would have booked the Hilton or even splurged for the Ritz to sleep over and had dinner at Cellar 49.I think the grounds were beautiful but did not justify the rough night on a cheap bed, linens and pillows.I would have complained and demanded the view or just left.I cannot recommend the hotel but I would recommend dinner there or even a wedding or daytime event.
This hotel had all the makings to be fantastic, however we experienced the worst night of our entire overseas vacation here. We booked a room with a sundeck only to be put in a dark substandard room. The management staff managed our situation extremely poorly. We were placed in the room without even being told that there were no rooms available we booked... it took me having a very heated conversation with management for them to admit to their mistakes. I wouldn’t ever return to this place!!!
The place is nice. Weve stayed here before. The only thing I didnt like this time was the accessories in our room had an odd temperature variance that cause me to wake up being to warm. Overall a nice place. We dis not eat at cellar 49 this time as it was to expensive for the value last time.
Very hard to locate at night. GPS drops you off at a desolate location. It takes some time to realize that this is the gate of the hotel. There are no lights and very small sign.Once inside, everything is good. Breakfast is pricey at $25. Water bottles in the room cost $6 each. I drank from the tap.Room is spacious and the tv is huge
The beauty of the property was the only good thing about my stay. Stayed with my 90 year old mother who is frail with a broken foot and a hip replacement and she couldn’t get into bed because the bed was too high and staff did absolutely nothing about it. we stacked drawers so she could get up that high. Then not even a bar in the bathroom to balance herself with to take a shower, so she went without. They put us on the 4th floor with no elevator. And lot fills up and you have to park up a hill on the other side of property and walk in the dark. Mold stench throughout the buildings was not pleasurable either. To top it off, sent an email to the sales department to voice my concern and NO ONE acknowledged it. All around terrible experience!
Stayed in King Mansion. Room was spacious and loved the atmosphere. We were treated to strawberries and champagne for our anniversary. Had a relaxing afternoon at the pool. Dinner at cellar 49 was one of the best meals we have ever had. Sitting around fire pit afterwards just relaxing and counting stars. Perfect stay
The rooms are spacious and upgraded. The grounds are beautiful and make you feel like you are away from the hustle and bustle, when in actuality, you are only minutes away. Unfortunately, my rating has decreased from a 4 during my visit last year to a 3. The customer service of the front desk staff was just average. For example, when i asked the front desk staff for non-dairy creamer for my coffee from the coffee station in the lobby, they just responded that they dont have any available and were sorry. Mind you, our room was stocked with non-dairy creamer so the front desk staff could have arranged with Housekeeping to have some available. The coffee station was also out of tea and sugar. After the front desk staffs response to the creamer, i dare not ask about these items. Last, before arriving, the front desk staff informed me that the rooms were not equipped with microwaves; however, that they could arrange for one to be placed in our room pending upon availability. Yet when we asked for one upon our arrival, we were informed by front desk staff that it is a fire hazard to have microwaves in the rooms. Either way, i wish we had been given a consistent message regarding the use of microwaves in rooms. To add, the walls are paper thin so you can actually hear conversations and other things occurring in surrounding rooms, and our mattress sunk in the middle.
I was very clean and pleasant but they want you to pay for everything but the complementary two packets of coffee and two teabags... Theres no free continental breakfast and if you order breakfast and wish to eat it in your room you will have to pay an extra $10.00. They also place an $80.00 hold on your debit/credit call for using any of the other things like bottled water etc. It will be released after they check the room the next day at checkout or a 5 to 7 business days for debit cards...!
Beautiful location nestled into Tarrytown. I am in the King Mansion which I would highly recommend. The room is largely sized, and it is reminiscent of the period thi hotel was built. I have yet to learn how to turn on the TV, but that will come. Take time to explore the grounds. You will enjoy it.
Just now on GoogleThe beds are awesome! But, if you’re looking for customer service, or anything for your money, it’s not here. The front desk won’t do anything, you must come get anything. Very sad, because the beauty and comfort are here, but the kindness isn’t. If you’re not looking for a place with any kind of service, this isn’t your place
The photos of our room were very deceiving. Tried calling multiple times to discuss a wedding code that was not working. Never heard back and did not honor the code once we were there in person. Staff seemed unaware of even the simplest of questions. Upon checkout they charged us $100 over what our email confirmation price was. Manager was not on site to discuss where that $100 came from. Still waiting to hear from Management.
We had our wedding here and it was amazing. Liz and her staff took care of us from day 1 of planning our wedding 1.5 years before it happened. When it came to the week of they did everything necessary to make it the most special weekend we have ever had. We highly recommend it!
Overall, service and facility is disappointing. The location is good, the room spacious. But..As I walked in I can easily feel facilities here have not been updated for at least a decade, Im okay with that as long as they work fine and yet..Later the air conditioner in my room was broken, I told the front desk when we went out for dinner and one lady promised me to send an engineer to have a look, and when we got back around 10 nothing was done, nor did we get any feedback.Again I talked to the front desk and after 20min they told me I have to change the room. In this new room AC is fine, it just doesnt have a stool and does have a broken lamp.So I guess this place is poorly staffed and maintained. Next time Ill definitely find a better hotel to spend my night in this area.
Nice sports activities. Clean rooms...and nice location. Green stuff in jacuzzi, smoke alarm battery died at 2 am and chirped till I yanked off wall. Handle kept falling off bathroom door had to call 2 times to get it fixed. Really not what I expected at a place like that.
A nice place but the service at the reception needs to be improved. Even if the hotel is barely not occupied they crammed us into a small room. It took two more requests to finally get a room which we had requested in our reservation. Not very friendly staff. Still, a very nice location and clean rooms.
I was excited to stay here, but that quickly turned to disappointment. My family stayed here while in town for a wedding. First off, fair warning, if anyone gives the front desk your name and says theyre related to you, they will give that person a key to your room. Wonderful! While the room was fine, it is definitely dated. The AC was unable to cool the room below 78 degrees the first night, and the matress is quite hard (though the sheets were very nice). The bathroom is not actively ventilated, so its an instant steamy mess in there, and smells linger. The rest of the hotel has a strong musty smell, and areas are in extreme disrepair. The steps leading to the bocce court or rotted and some boards are falling away. The door to the pool was so warped and old that it didnt close. We were originally told that breakfast was included with the wedding block. Then it wasnt. Then it was. And at check out, it wasnt. Two mornings of breakfast for two adults added up to $110...for a buffet. I would suggest going elsewhere in town as there are far better options for less money. You cant even consider the hotel option convenient since you have to walk down the hill to a different building to dine.Oh, and if you have a handicap, make sure you request an easily accessible room. Most of this hotel is a maze of halls and stairs that would be impossible to navigate. While there may be an elevator somewhere, I never saw it.Overall, Im disappointed in this place. It was the only negative spot on an otherwise perfect trip to Tarrytown.

2022-07-07Poorly managed property with disorganized staff. This couldve been a great hotel with a change of staff an better management. We got a preview before our trip when we were trying to figure out if there were any restaurants on site that served breakfast. We were told no - twice, when we called the property, only to find out later that there is, in fact, a full service buffet daily. We checked-in early, only to be given a room where the door and the window would not lock. We called the front-desk (getting through there itself is a challenge and took us 20 mins each time after being put on hold), asked to be moved into another room. They respond Oh Yes! I forgot that room doesnt lock. How does something like this slip your mind? Doesnt your check-in system allow you to block a room that requires maintenance? After waiting for half hour, we had to walk over to the front-desk, someone came back with us to transfer to another room but the window would not lock there. At the 3rd try, they tried to move us into a room with a king bed (we had requested for 2 doubles). After wasting 2 hours, we finally settled in the room.Service at breakfast left a lot to be desired. The waiter was rude. Coffee was not refilled. When we requested for a refill and waters for the table, he forgot to refill my husbands cup and banged the glasses of water that he filled on the table so that they spilled on the phone that was lying besides it.Not sure whether his problem was with us or with the job.TO Summarize:Pros: The location of the property is great.Cons: The hotel rooms need work - not for an upgrade but to make them basic and acceptable.Staff and Management need a change.Definitely not worth the price that they charge per night.Highly recommend an alternative location for potential guests until the hotel has worked out their kinks.

2022-06-28I photographed a wedding at Tarrytown House Estate last year (2021) in September, and had a fantastic time! The grounds are so beautiful and expansive, perfect for a variety of photos for your wedding day. I cant wait to go back!

2022-06-19I stayed at this hotel for a wedding and enjoyed it! You could tell that theyd recently updated the furniture and wallpaper in the rooms. I appreciated the blackout curtains and comfortable bed! The room itself was also very clean. The hotel is older, but the property has a fascinating history and is quite charming. The staff we encountered were incredibly kind and professional.

2022-06-20I started coming here last year 2021 and it keeps getting better and better. Pablo, Alex, and Ana Maria are amazing. They are the sweetest, kindest, and all around just great people. The breakfast is always so good, and the pool is a plus with the bar. The restaurant Goosefeather is amazing. I never get tired of coming to Tarrytown House.

2022-07-05To elaborate, we arrived at 4 (the earliest possible check-in time. We can thank shrinkflation for this one), and after waiting in a long line, were finally given the key to our room. However, none of the staff knew how to get to our room. First we were directed to the restaurant, and then back to the lobby and then led through a series of staircases before being redirected back out the front doors to a path. Spoiler: none of these options led us to our room. At this point we were tired from lugging 6 bags all over the property, but there were no staff available to help us with our bags either. Finally a maintenance man was kind enough to show us to our room, which was down 4 flights of stairs (no elevator). When we opened the door to our room, our momentary relief was met with stunned silence. Our room was virtually a closet in a basement without a window. We didn’t want to stay in there for 5 seconds never mind spend a holiday night in it. We kept questioning in disbelief “is this up up to fire code!?! Should a fire have happened in the hallway we surely would burn to a firey death. It took two separate trips upstairs before we were able to arrange for another room that would be ready at an undetermined time. Since we had to vacate the previously room entirely with no help, we once again lugged our 6 bags up the stairs and checked them with guest services. We called to make a reservation at the on sight restaurant, but surprise! They don’t keep any tables aside for hotel guests and were sold out for the night. We decided to valet the car and go to the pool since we were exhausted and grumpy by this time. Guess what? No valet in spite of a valet sign set up. That wasted another 20 minutes. At this point we had less than an hour before the pool closed (6:30 on a holiday! So generous) but it didn’t matter. The pool was filthy and old cups were stacked up spilling onto the pool deck. They were also completely out of towels. We did end up in a slightly better room though it was a place you’d want to sleep and nothing more. The beds were comfortable and would have partially redeemed the evening if were not for the loud “bang bang bang” of a door slamming over and over again. This began, sporadically at 6am and continued until we left the room at 9, ruining any opportunity for further rest.To be clear I fully blame this experience on upper management and owners. They left the staff short and proceeded to fill the place anyways. They also continue to rent out dangerous little dungeon rooms as if anyone would like to spend 5 minutes in such a dire place.

2022-05-27Worst possible service. Absolutely don’t care about customers. After checking in they moved me from a decent room to another room in the basement with no window - literally a closet. For this they charged $169/night. Outrageous. Beautiful sourounding but very confusing and difficult to get around buildings. Be prepared to go up and down stairs. No elevator access. How did they get around ADA? No easy access to parking which are distributed all over the place.Had to go there due to a wedding, certainly will not recommend to anyone.

2022-05-30Pulled back my covers around midnight to finally lay down only to find all sorts of human hair or pet fur and food particles everywhere. Called the front desk to tell them what I had just found after pulling back the sheets and asked for new linens to change them myself given housekeeping was already gone for the day. The guy at the front sounded like he could have cared less. Waited for the guard to bring up fresh Linens where I was then able to change my sheets and finally get some sleep.Management needs to have housekeeping inspect the beds and actually change linens after each guest. Completely unacceptable!!
