Very friendly staff and the atmosphere is very rustic with a good relaxing sound track of jazz and blues playing in the background. Food was delicious, except for the fact that the portions are very small for the main entree- you have to pay an additional 15 to 20 for sides (which are a very generous portion). Other than that quirk, the drinks are priced right and made very well.
I found this restaurant to be quiet different atmosphere was relaxing.. The Entrées not bad for New York. Service kinda slow but still did a great job.. I find that most people don’t care about scenic atmosphere most where on there cellular phones.. Take time to enjoy
During our trip to New York we found ourselves visiting the Tavern on the Green a couple of times for a spot of ‘time out’ and drinks.Tavern on the Green is a great restaurant and bar located in Central Park and a few minutes stroll from Columbus Circle and as you’d probably guess it’s a popular place for people to go.Whilst in the city the weather was incredibly hot and whilst in the vicinity of the Tavern it became a great place to call in to have drinks in the sunshine whilst still enjoying the peace and surroundings of Central Park. The building inside is of a very nice standard and a pleasant place to dine but equally, there is a sufficiently large courtyard outside with tables and a bar. The tables were constantly busy with diners but what was nice is that you can still go and sit at the bar and drink even if you didn’t want to eat.Pleasant and efficient staff in a nice environment made this a good experience and would definitely recommend and go back. Prices quite reasonable and in keeping with NYC.Not many photos sadly and the ones I have don’t do the place justice. Just go to the Tavern on the Green as you can’t go wrong going by our experience.
It was my first experience at Tavern on the Green and I must say everything was delicious. We had reservations for Saturday, April 16th brunch and it was perfect! We sat inside with a lovely view of the park. We started off with the Yogurt, Maple Glazed Bacon and then moved on the Eggs Benedict with Hollandaise sauce and then shared the Brioche French Toast. The ambiance and the special service we received from Thanos, our server, was wonderful! I couldnt have asked for a more perfect weekend brunch!Thank you, Tavern on the Green for such a memorable experience! I will be back!
Tavern on the Green is an absolutely stunning restaurant for a girls night, date night or a special occasion. We went for NYC restaurant week and ordered the prix fixed dinner menu. Im usually skeptical about restaurant week but I loved the scallops and thought the gnocchi was delicious. The only thing that was just alright was the chocolate creme brule. The service was attentive and friendly. Lovely experience and I will return to try out the regular menu.
Came to the TOG to have a romantic first time as a married couple kind of dinner. This place was amazing. The manager stopped by to see how things were going and to fix our wobbly table. I didnt even notice the table had a wobble. The food was nice and the decor was a delight for the eyes. Loved the dessert.
Perfectly proper evening. The service was stellar atmosphere was classy but inviting. The menu could use a dessert without egg. Otherwise there was a great selection of options for people with every diet. I would go back for a cocktail in a heartbeat as it was prepared very well. The Queens cocktail - Bright fresh with a smooth complex finish.Cauliflower steak - the barley was a pleasant addition and the dish was prepared well.Truffle Mac & Cheese - expertly prepared and delightful. Well-balanced, flavorful, perfect. When I go back I’d like to try the creme brûlée and another cocktail.Don’t pass it up if you’re considering it.
Came here for my dads 60th birthday and had a wonderful time. The ambiance was amazing, staff impeccable and food delicious. My parents used to come here over 30 years ago and I thought it would of been great to celebrate my dads birthday here with some great food and to bring back some old memories. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone who would like to have a night to remember.
Visited from out of town and this was one location I really wanted to visit. I made reservations for lunch via open table. I was contacted a few days prior to confirm the reservation. We showed up on time and we’re immediately seated. The waiter was very friendly. Food came out quick and was delicious!
The burger I had was simple but good. Cocktails were nice as well. Server was nice (and gave me a heads up that the burger comes with chips but can be replaced with fries.) Outdoor seating was beautiful but a bit chilly in the morning.Taking one star off because the chair was wet and the napkin left good amount of lint on my pants...My pants suffered this day.. :)
Stopped in to the bar and ordered a bloody Mary that was awesome and then had a beer braised brisket sandwich and it was one of the best sandwiches ive ever had. Staff was friendly and the building is beautiful, loved every minute of it, I highly recommend this establishment!
Always great One of the prettiest places to eat and oh yea the food is awesome too. We had the steak which was perfect and the Lobster Ravioli which was so full of Lobster it was embarrassing. We had the French fries with truffles which are a must have. Desserts were also awesome. We had the peanut butter lava cake and the lemon blueberry tart. Both were great. Check out the photos of the outside area going from light to dark. Very romantic. When you go be sure to tell your driver to actually pull into Central Park because it is the only time you are ever allowed to actually drive in Central Park and you can pull up right to the front door. It would be fun to eat in the bar as well, but we loved the glassed in Porch. Any visit to NYC needs to include at least one meal at Tavern On the Green. Check out all of our reviews. If we do not like it we do no review it so all of the ones you see are places that are fantastic. Follow us if you like. We had over 7 million views in 2021 and we thank you for that. We dont get paid, we just love to eat. Be sure to click on RobH at the top of this review to see all of them and to follow us if you like good food and FUN.
This is my first time in Taver on the Green and I really loved it. For appetizers we had a shrimp cocktail and oysters. The shrimps was so tender and juicy. Oyster are so good. And for food I had a fish which was also tender, fresh and juicy. If you order the fish you can ask a lemon like how I did. And the Queens cocktail tests so fresh. Thank you so much Tavern On the Green for delicious food and for beautiful atmosphere!
Had a great time with a family group. Everyone was happy with their food as was I. Had the lamb chops, was cooked perfectly as I requested medium rare and Ill tell you they were excellent.Service was very good as well except for one thing that annoyed me....the staff continued to take plates of the table that had food still on them without asking. First our bread plates that we just got, then the apps. Our waiter though was very good. On the pricier side but that was expected as its the same as any nicer NY restaurant. Overall good experience and we will definitely dine there again.
My other half, not to be confused for my better half, booked a flight from Atlanta to New York for my 60th birthday.Brunch at Tavern on the Green was outstanding. The food was incredible, service was fantastic not to mention the ambience was breathtaking. As I looked around my surroundings amazed I was fortunate enough to be eating at such an iconic restaurant. Thank you Bob Halpin for a wonderful week. And truly you are my better half.
Tawdry and tacky no more! The iconic and revamped Tavern on the Green is well worth a New York minute with exceptional food, service and cocktails! You cannot beat the location in Central Park - nor the beautiful setting. Thanks to Nikolai for making our dining experience extraordinary! We will definitely be back (from Williamsburg, Brooklyn)
This is such a cool spot to go eat! The food was good but nothing incredible. Our first round of drinks were great, but our second round of the exact same gin fizz was practically a whole different drink altogether. Would’ve liked to see some consistency from the bartenders on that, but that being said it was a lunch rush and I understand that they were slammed. The ravioli was good not too big of a portion either! Great oysters as well! This would be a great brunch or date spot being right on the park. The place is worth the location alone however I think there are better places to eat, but if you’re at Central Park and want a good meal here you go!
Definitely a must see! An iconic place for anyone who is visiting New York and especially the beautiful, classic Central Park area! While the history thrives just outside, it’s evident from the view inside and the food lived up to all expectations. I recommend the Bronx’s cocktail and after your main course a cheesecake & a cappuccino! Service was great, I think a reservation would be the best way to experience this beautiful place! If you’re a movie buff, “The Out-of-Towners” with Steve Martin and Goldie Hawn was filmed there, among many more!
It had been years since I dined at this landmark New York City establishment. I decided last week to treat my family to brunch in NYC at the Tavern. The weather was grey and rainy and my family and I were eager to get indoors and feast. We were seated promptly. It did take us about 15 mins to get our server to take our order. No one even told us that we would not get menus but a QR code to open a website on our mobile phones. This is the Tavern On The Green for crying out loud not a Chillis Take Out! Alas we were so hungry that we quickly gave our order to our server. Smoked Bacon & Scrambled Egg Pizza + Brioche French Toast + Steak & Eggs + Grilled Cheese Sandwich + Personal Pizza Pie + Warm Chocolate Brownie Sundae. The best dish was the Brioche French Toast and the Grilled Cheese sandwich (from the childrens menu). The bacon on the Smoked Bacon & Scrambled Egg pizza was under cooked, the cappuccino I ordered was messy. Spilled over. The dessert was far from the quality one would expect from a restaurant with such history. It seems all the Tavern On The Green has its name but if quality declines over a period of time how long will business thrive on just a name...I wonder. I am giving it 4 stars out of 5 because our server although delayed did do a good job of taking care of us and the ambiance of the place is nostalgic to me the food was decent enough and the prices were not ridiculous. This place is not worth a 2nd visit.
This beautiful building was the perfect place for a Saturday Brunch. During our walk in Central Park, we walked up and we’re quickly seated. Our servers were amazing! They were quick and very friendly. I ordered the Classic Benedict and my husband ordered the French Toast! The food was fantastic and perfectly portioned. I would highly recommend the Bloody Mary, it was the perfect amount of spice! The building is a must see for beautiful atmosphere and decor!
Happy Birthday Alice! I gave my partner her birthday present a month early. I didnt know where Id be on her birthday, so I took advantage of an opportunity last month, and took her to lunch at the magnificently revived Tavern on the Green in Central Park, New York. It only reopened a few months ago. (After a long, somewhat embarrassing hiatus.) But they are back. And it is epic. We enjoyed truffle, parmesan fries as we drank fine champagne. Later we tried creative cocktails, the lemon chicken under a brick (I was disappointed they did not serve the brick), and a wonderful jumbo lump crab cake all while admiring the perfect French expat outside our window. I dont know if I coveted his hat, shirt, or scarf the most. The last time I ate here was the summer of 1995.
Second time visiting this landmark restaurant and it did not disappoint. Our service was great and our food delightful and delicious. When my sister commented to the server that our bottle of Prosecco was warm after it was poured, he offered us a choice of dessert on the house. We also enjoyed our most favorite cocktail of the trip, the Fall Fizz, at the Tavern on the Green. The setting is beautiful on the edge of Central Park and the interior of the restaurant is classy and upscale, but not too pretentious.
Interesting vibe. We took family that were visiting and so we were dressed business casual. You had most dressed business casual, but they didnt stop customers who had flip flops, shorts, and basketball jerseys. DEFINITELY need reservations. So many people came in and out thinking they could walk in and dine. I will say they do have a front bar room and casual tables that look like they accommodate walk ins, but it was always full when Ive come through. Food was delicious and good portions for sharing.
Mulitple events on a saturday so the venue was closed. asked about a reservation for the next day and was told we should be good but you have to callnthis number. the number wouldnt ring thru... recomend having an alternative in case in is not taking customers. setting looked like it would be a great place.
The ambiance by the bar was awesome, loved the decor, two thumbs up for the Bartender Izzy and their friendly staff. However the slider burger was super tough and tasteless, very disappointing for $30, the fries were good. However, the Chef did get the fried batter fish correct, light and flaky a must have. Lunch portions are small... an expensive lunch .. but you are sitting on history. So I ate at Tavern on the Green. ✔
Due to its proximity in the park and it’s fame, I expected a touristy place with prices to match but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Despite living in NYC all my life and spending many summer days in Central Park, I’d never sat down for a meal at Tavern On the Green. I was truly in for a treat. My meal, the grilled brook trout with green beans, walnuts, and charred lemon was truly delicious and made for a perfect lunch. The staff was really attentive and service was quick. I’ll definitely be back.
Celebrated our anniversary..therenwas a receptionist desk outside but not manned therefore I didnt knowbto go straight inside until others walked by us.Check in was easy. Service was great and the food though a bit pricey was delicious and worth it..The outside was beautiful family oriented and live 🎶
We went here for brunch. We started off with the homemade pastry basket and highly recommend it. The raspberry preserves alone was fantastic. We had the breakfast pizza and eggs Benedict, both were great! But the best part was our server Lauren. Very nice, totally made us feel welcome and we had the best time because of her!The only nit pick thing I would say is of their dress code. We were told that sneakers were not encouraged and that it was smart casual. Yet we saw a lot of people wearing sneakers, some with ripped jeans, definitely not smart casual. But we will definitely return.
This is a must have stop if your planning a visit to Central Park. It has quite the past and beginnings and they have done a really nice job maintaining elements from the late 1800s. The patio is stunning and quite large and definitely need a reservation for a nice day. We had a few well done cocktails on our stop visiting the park and it was a perfect selection.
The ambiance of Tavern on the Green is a nice subtle luxury which is completely different from the grand Liberace-esque Crystal room. (And while I miss the old design… I understand the driving need for upgrades.) The service was great. The food however was totally subpar and uninspired. The eggs Benedict was just ok… nothing impressive. The “fresh” baked goods tasted dry. Lastly, the steak and eggs were not great. It wasn’t steak in the traditional sense, it was more like roast beef. We were disappointed with the food, and for the price, we expected more.
Georgia OKeeffe once said: One cant paint New York as it is, but rather as it is felt. That is precisely why I came to Tavern On the Green tonight; at this restored, unique New York landmark full of charm and spark. To feel it. To feel and inhale its essence. And it has not betrayed. My palate is painting its colors. The building has been exquisitely remodeled with a panoramic window bordered by tables with white leather chairs. Booths are cozy and modern, with white leather all over as well. The servers are all very kind, respectful, and friendly, and you can notice a sense of pride for serving at such an iconic place. There is a panoramic view of the open kitchen with such harmony and tranquility that it is almost surreal. The food is excellent—no less than that—Lamb chops were tender and crunchy on some sides, just heaven. Potatoes with rosemary wanted to marry the lamb chops, and it was the perfect honeymoon. My daughters Salmon was so tender and tasty they ought to have used some type of cocker. Either a smoker or Something. It was just perfect in moisture and taste. The sautéed veggies around made it superb. I had the Beet soup as my entree. It was one of the most exotic plates I had in a while. The Cold soup ( of course, it is 88 in NYC right now) brought me to some of the flavors in my grandmas kitchen over Passover. Horseradish, dill, a creamy yet not too pasty taste. I enjoyed it very much. Deliciously interesting. My sons seafood salad was magnificent. Yet, we both agreed that I would have replaced the banana for pears for the green part. He would have replaced them with apples. He knows best.Dessert. Chocolate peanut butter lava cake. Yes. I would put it on my Santa list-- especially the ice cream on the side with pieces of crunchy peanut butter. I am not an expert on Cheesecake, I know it has a whole science, but I liked the one I had. Sturdy but not hard, not too sweet. Good. A must if you are visiting NYC. Espresso: was cold. Sacrilegio. This should be avoided at ALL costs.Overall, the wonderful experience at Tavern on the Green was outstanding for us. The fabulous addition of a digestive walk on Central Park has made the highlight of this trip. This was something my kids will never forget and probably could not afford for a while in their young lives. So I am sure it will be kept as a treasure in their minds—a pure New York feeling.
Fantastic meal. Great setting, great service, delicious and unique food. Each room has a different theme which adds to the charm of the restaurant. The room with floor to ceiling glass windows feels as if you are eating outside. Once night fell, outdoor dining would have been quite a romantic setting. Live music was a plus. I could not recommend this place enough for a special dinner.
First time back since reopening. The gorgeous old traditional beautiful venue has gone modern. It is still very pretty, but very modern. The menu is also very modern. Although the food was absolutely delicious, the portions would be appropriate for a 3year old. I am not a big eater, but when I left, both my companion and I stopped and purchased deli sandwiches. Like I said, the food was delicious. We had the beef burgunoun. Honestly, 5 total bites…a 2 inch cube of extremely tender, flavorful beef, a bite of mashed potatoes, a couple small pieces of carrots, and a couple other vegetables. We were each bought one dinner roll. The salad was very small…nothing good or bad to say about it. It was disappointing to witness the decline in my once favorite restaurant. Traditional is not a bad thing. I do not plan on returning. (Our dinner was $187:43 for both of us.)
Fantastic. Food and service quality are top notch here. Our server went out of his way to make sure we were taken care of. Simply lovely to go for a walk in central park am hour before sunset, have dinner, and then catch a ride home as the fireflies start up. Magical!
My brunch today at Tavern on the Green was excellent! The food was delicious and the service was great. The chocolate and peanut butter lava cake with vanilla bean ice cream was probably the best dessert I’ve ever had. The only thing that could have improved the meal was bread with the entree. I’d highly recommend this iconic restaurant in a lovely corner of Central Park!
Had 3:45 reservation - last lunch slot. We were given dinner menus. We were hungry enough for dinner so we didnt say anything. Food was excellent, though bread was never offered. They seemed to start that around 5, the first dinner slot. Though it was noted in the reservation, waiter wasnt told it was my wifes birthday. They addressed that. In brief, the setting is nice and the food is good; late afternoon doesnt seem to be the time to go.
We came her to celebrate my daughters birthday and was impressed with the attention to detail from start to finish. We had no less than four people check in on us to make sure everything was satisfactory, which it was. We ordered the roasted chicken and braised beef which were good but not great. The octopus salad on the other hand... chefs kiss!! So tender and perfectly accented with pomegranate and red bell peppers. Im dreaming about it right now. Anyway, it was a great experience overall.
When I booked a table a couple of weeks ago, they only had indoor seating available and I was a bit bummed. But on a day like today🌞, that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The place is lovely anyway, indoors or outdoors. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and our mocktails. Service was friendly, professional, and efficient.
I hadn’t been to Tavern On The Green in years but a new transplant to the city wanted to go. It was such a pleasant surprise. They are a little short staffed but overall great service, food was exceptional and on a sunny beautiful day, it couldn’t have been a more perfect day. We had delicious mushroom soup, grilled fig salad, grilled octopus, salmon and divine desserts. Especially loved the chocolate lava peanut butter cake.
Our Sunday brunch at Tavern On the Green was everything I dreamed it would be! Ive wanted to go for decades. Exceptional ambiance, stellar service and the most amazing dishes. We had a beautiful snowy view of the outdoor bar area and Central Park from our table. Will most DEFINITELY eat there again next time we travel to NYC. Would love to visit in the spring next time ... and hopefully timing will work out to have brunch again!
I was highly disappointed in my dining experience here. I made reservations over a month before hand. Myself and my two children had Christmas brunch here. There was a special menu for the day and a price of $135 per adult and $65 per child with a 20% gratuity, which I was fine with. Ordering was rushed, I did not get the main dish I ordered but I was trying not to complain as it was Christmas and busy. However when the bill was brought to me it was $471+ so I wasnt happy. My 10 year old ordered the brunch menu item, French toast so I was charged the adult cost of $135 for my child. Maybe I am wrong but I didnt see anything saying kids had to order specific menu items. We chose our reservation based on the brunch menu time. I took my bill to the front desk and a manager took off about $100 however it did not show me what I was being specifically charged for, what they changed. I was looking forward to brunch here due to the location and decorations as well as food reviews but I found the food and service sub par. I had several other higher end meals while in NYC and all were of better quality. Last a male staff member with braids was expressing anger (not at my family) but we were seated next to a silverware station and several times he came over slamming the drawers and shaking his head. My young children also took notice of this. I dont know if I would dine here again.
Was amazing from the time we walked in until the time we left. Our waiter was outstanding. We had just gotten married in Central Park and he brought us two glasses of sparkling wine to toast. The Tavern burger I ordered was cooked to perfection. And my husbands steak and eggs were almost as good as mine. The desserts were delicious I had the brownie with ice cream and he had the cheesecake. Everyone in the party commented on the food and the service. Impeccable. Thank you for a fabulous lunch after our magical day. We will definitely be back and if you are on the fence about going take that jump and enjoy a great meal at Tavern on the Green.
The atmosphere was amazingly beautiful! Our server and the other servers were great!Came here for my bday. Ordered chocolate martinis not good. Ordered a lemon drop martini not good at all. The Queen’s cocktail was refreshing but still missing the panache. I realize there is a large wine menu but not for me. 22 dollars a cocktail!!!!Limited menu for dinner due to Covid. Lobster Bisque was very fishy could not finish it. Lobster Risotto was good but so expensive for the amount of Lobster.in the dish not with it! . The truffle French fries were served w reg Mayo , were very good. The renowned Tavern on the Green was beautiful but I will not go back there to eat.
Tavern is such a beautiful restaurant and I have so many memories there, I wanted to share with my family. Well this is not the tavern I knew, the food (which is a very new menu they are trying out) was blah, it all came out cold, how can lamb and a steak be ready on the table in 10 minutes? And cold? For the prices there are so many other options in the city. The waiter was really on top of everything so that is the only 5 star I can give at this time.
This is a really cool place to come if you like people watching and want somewhere a little special. We came on a sunny afternoon in May after spending hours walking around the park .We didn’t eat here, just had a couple of drinks at the bar.Drinks where pricy but we knew they wouldn’t be $5.The food that was coming out looked lovely .Service was good and the there wasn’t an empty seat.
Excellent food, service and ambience! We came here for brunch on the first weekend they reopened from COVID. The staff were very friendly and professional. There was a live band playing which added to the atmosphere.Food was delicious as well. We had the French toast and the burger which are both very good looking dishes. Will definitely come back during another beautiful day.
EXCELLENT service, food and atmosphere. Warm friendly greeting by the hostess. Awed by the beautiful Christmas decorations!! Very lively and beautiful inside and outside! Our only disappointment was how close they sat us to the tables beside us. We could barely get in our seats it was so tight. And literally the couple beside us were at our table. It was more like community dining. Nonetheless, we would definitely recommend and can’t wait to return! Food, bread, drinks and desserts were fabulous!!
Beautiful grounds but they lose a star as it would have been better with a wider brunch selection. However, the location makes up for the lackluster brunch menu. Impeccable service. I imagine the bride who was there the same day would be less enthusiastic to give 4 stars as her face said it all.
Makes for a really nice date spot, with their lovely live music and super cute outdoor setup. However, the money you pay here is completely for the experience. The food has repeatedly been average/under average and is exorbitantly priced. Probably a good place for drinks + starters. I wouldn’t waste money on main course here the next time.
The food was phenomenal. Chef Tomasz was accommodating and understanding with regards to dietary preferences. I was fortunate enough to have a chance to chat with him briefly, and he seemed a kind and genuine fellow. Our server (I believe her name was Emilina, though that may be misspelled) was delightful. She was prompt and courteous despite being very busy. I observed her interactions with other guests, and this warm and professional conduct was clearly something that she managed consistently.I appreciate the staff for making us feel welcome. Thank you all.
Local New Yorker. Living on the park for a few years now. We made reservations here for a celebration and and the meal was solid. The outdoor patio dining was *very* casual with kids running around throughout our meal. We werent expecting a formal dining experience but it was more casual than I thought itd be.Near the end of our meal our server brought a tiny box of truffles and a Happy Anniversary card which seemed like a nice gesture until I saw the truffles on our bill as a line item expense for $16. I dont care about the money but the whole truffle/gift thing seemed shady (and annoying) when youre spending $250 for a meal.
Its an experience you shouldnt miss. Ask to sit in the glass enclosed patio, on a cold sunny day its such a treat. We celebrated a birthday and the cake was insta worthy and delicious. Thank you for the phenomenal service and delicious food. I ordered the lobster Mac, and it had more losbter than I could eat... Never thought Id say that!!!
Xavior was the best waiter ever, would highly recommend this place to anyone who is in New York City right now and needs a fun dinner place to go eat! Great food, good drinks they have non acholic beer and mock tails for the kids but they also have good wine and cocktails for the adults!! Again would highly recommend!
Wrote on reservations occasion was birthday celebration. Hostess when sitting us asked are we celebrating anything special, said was birthday celebration. Our waiter never asked and we never said anything. One advice Id say is that they should communicate better with each other. Hostess should know when customer check in by looking at the computer what the occasion is if customer decides to write it during rsvp. And if hostess does ask, what are we celebrating, they should pass on the message to the waiter..
I’m here right now and the spot and food is great but waiters dont pay attention to us when we want to order something. when I’m eating appetizers and drinking beer I always hope that someone of the staff treat me like everyone else without any sense of discrimination. We ask to the waiters for an appetizer and he told us that they don’t attend on this spot but they are attending other people around us. I really love it if they attend all people the same way but this doesn’t happened. Is a shame that this happens when we’re tourist in NY city. They should attend people without any type of discrimination. When they bring us the appetizer they don’t event gave us any utensils
I honestly expected more, so I was a little let down. I had baked chicken with little flavor. Carrots were good. The best thing was the peanut butter molten lava cake. I have wanted to visit this restaurant for years-since Regis Philbin used to mention going there years ago. There was a birthday group who began a photo shoot around the tables where a girl was bending over and showing her butt and they continued. Their phone cameras were flashing in our faces and was very unpleasant. It just wasn’t at the class level I expected. Wait staff were good. Sorry, Tavern On The Green, I cannot say I’d be back or recommend trying so hard to get reservations.
Not a good experience. Had to book 2 months in advance and was sat practically on top of someone else on a booth. I asked if we could move to another seat that had more room and was told that they couldnt move me because of the reservations they had ( I guess differently then the reservations I had). The bench I was on was split between two benches so the height difference was about 1-2 inches which is a weird way to sit when your butt is on two different levels. The hostess told us we could sit behind the bar (not a chance) if we wanted to move. I ended up just apologizing to the table beside me and scooted our table within a couple inches of their table. Not the experience I remember the last time I was there and not how I wanted to spend brunch on my 15 year wedding anniversary.
Although food was delicious... We waited over 30 min to be seated for a 6:15PM reservation and didnt get the window view we requested. It was a team dinner for group of 12 which included people from across the Globe UK,Singapore,Ohio, and India..for some it was there 1st time at the infamous Travern On the Green and service was not what we expected...
We made a reservation for 2:00 and we were seated at 2:20 (that did not bother us, we know they are busy and we expected it. Maybe reserve a bit earlier, if you have to be somewhere to be after) The restaurant was decorated for Christmas, nice and festive! The service was quick! We ordered a shaved sirloin sandwich, and the side of Truffle mac&cheese (yes! That is a side! Yes, that is a Table spoon!) it was my birthday and they gifted a beautiful slice of birthday cake! Our server was Sawyer, and he was the best!! He even gave us Broadway ticket recommendations! For sure recommend!
Go eat here! I loved the food, service, atmosphere, and unique dishes. This is a gem. Ive had French toast for brunch numerous times but no other restaurant even compares to this place. Dont skip the appetizers and get the bacon. It was so good my wife was googling how I can make it for her back at home. Our waitress was a bit cold starting out but when prompted offered those recommendations which were spot on, after that she was friendly and attentive. Im so glad we stopped here without a reservation and made it in. What a great experience and dining moment.
Came here to celebrate my birthday brunch. It is an iconic New York restaurant. So I was excited to spend the morning with my bestfriend. But was quite disappointed with service and food. The French Toast was good. The tomato soup was okay. But the steak and eggs were cold and tasted like something from a hotel restaurant. Nothing spectacular. The service was the same. She forgot to give us salt, pepper and sugar. Then she didnt give us the drinks we ordered. I finally had to wave down another waiter and they finally came while we were finishing our meal (at the end). I saw our waiter spending more time flirting with other staff then actually waiting on tables. So I guess the price you pay is for the atmosphere which is spectacular. Especially if you are seated in the green house/glass area.Maybe dinner is better quality? And maybe those servers are more attentive.
Id like to say something ... anything ... good about TOTG. So here it is: its pretty. Now:The food was pedestrian, at best. The service was acceptable ... sort of. Almost. But heres the thing:I was here for a wedding brunch. 40 or so guests. There was a table for about 30. And rather than make any attempt AT ALL to gather the rest of the group nearby their solution (remember, this was a wedding, prearranged and prepaid) was to provide two smaller tables outside, and not even near EACH OTHER. A WEDDING, folks. Toasts? Not possible. Extend the issue from there.Oh yeah: and the flowers were delivered on time but didnt arrive at the table until about an hour after the event started.Im not kidding. Im not exaggerating. This was HORRIBLE. Inexcusable. I know Tavern is basically a tourist trap, but theyre in the customer service industry, right? And clearly give zero fs about customer service.
Truly the worst meal we have been presented with, A set menu for Easter Sunday of pate that was like a slice of tasteless meatloaf, lamb that was stewed and I got a piece of string in my mouth that it was tied up with freezing cold on a bed of cold mash and cold overcooked vegetables. Desserts were churned out and horrible the biggest con in New York. A bill of 880 dollars for 5 and it was not fit to give to my dog. What a nerve to give people food like it. If you were at a wedding you might accept the churning out but unacceptable for a New York experience Ann from London
The building and location is great (in Central Park) and that helps, with that being said: the menu selections seem to be suited for those who enjoy fine dining breakfast, lunch and dinner (which is fine) but the quality of the food items (to include breakfast items) should align with the price point. I visited for brunch and had the brioche french toast and eggs w/ greens pizza. The presentation of the french toast was no better than iHop and I would have enjoyed some actual egg on the french toast pieces. The same for the pizza with eggs and greens (the greens part was just garnish but on the menu it reads like greens are a part of the product) it was no better than something at an iHop. With the egg pizza I had expected at minimum something that may have resembled a personal quiche pie or the like. Bottom line, I probably will not be returning to try a main entree. BUT my expresso was great!
Excellent service and delicious food! We especially enjoyed the Lump Crab Meat, Bacon (4 thick slices), vegetable salad, and Shaved Sirloin Sandwich. The crab cake tasted like canned crab (disappointing), but it was cooked perfectly with a delectable tartar sauce. Our waiter was friendly and attentive! It made for an wonderful afternoon lunch!
Excellent service and delicious food. We actually mistakenly made reservations for the following night, but they fit us in and got us a table with no problems. Had the restaurant week menu and it was so good! I got the chicken, juicy and perfectly cooked, the wife got the shirt rib which was tender and delicious. The grits on that short rib plate were sublime. I recommend added the wine tasting to your meal! They were an excellent match.
Cannot rave enough about how gorgeous Tavern on the Green is. Visited here for restaurant week and requested a table in the courtyard. Booked reservations for 8:45 pm to get the night views and live music together. Vibe was amazing and everyone around was enjoying it. We went for the restaurant week menu and added on a wine pairing as well for extra 20 bucks. Definitely recommend this for anyone local to NYC or visiting.
We can’t speak highly enough of Kerry and her team at Tavern. The entire events team were extremely attentive, professional, and helpful throughout our wedding planning process. Our guests were overwhelmed with the level of service and attention to detail.Kerry was the partner of our dreams from day 1, going above and beyond to ensure that our vision for our wedding Reception was executed perfectly. There is no better venue in New York to host an elegant event and we can’t recommend Tavern enthusiastically enough.A special thank you and acknowledgement to Kerry, Ryan, and our Events Captains for making every detail perfect.
The Tavern On the Green impressed us tonight! Our experience was immersed with a beautiful venue, lighted garden, living room, and excellent plates. Hats off to the dining staff for going above and beyond. They were knowledgeable, friendly, and attentive to your experience. On top of the services rendered tonight, was how well the kitchen prepared the entrees. My lamb was one of the best I’ve had. It was soft, medium, and seared with butter and herbs. The black truffle macaroni was an adventure in itself. I might come back for lunch just to eat it. If you are reading this you should go. I’m coming back.
Loved this place for brunch! The food was excellent and the staff was very attentive. The cocktails were well crafted and the ambience was delightful. I would highly recommend this place for brunch. They even surprise people with cake if you make a reservation for a special occasion. We also received a post card free of charge. Hope this helps!
Food was absolutely amazing and our waitress Becca was one of the best waitresses Ive ever had. Everything we tried we loved. The big ribeye was perfect. Mushroom pastry was our favorite. Cant imagine a better time! I dont care for dry wine but loved the dry wine she recommended. She truly needs a bonus for tonight...above the tip we left. It wasnt a meal it was an experience!
Gorgeous atmosphere and delicious food! Perfect for date night or special occasion. Highly recommend the NY strip and crab cake. Was a little disappointed in some of the oysters on the seafood platter and sad lobster Mac and cheese. Never had a dessert I didn’t love though! Try to save room!
Such a wonderful night out with coworkers at a wonderful place with a great outdoor seating -and I almost didnt go! Tavern on the Green played such a pivotal point in getting me out of my agoraphobic Covid shell. The staff is so friendly and kind and service is exceptional. And the food was the absolute best. I stuck with the city namesakes just for the hell of it. A Manhattan, the New York strip, and a slice of NY cheesecake. So if youve read this far you might as well check out who was at the table right behind us.
A restaurant that is also an NYC landmarks. Located on the west side of Central Park, with the most beautiful garden and awesome vibes, makes this place a wonderful option for special occasions. Also, brunch here is always a treat. Although the accept walk ins, it’s highly recommended to reserve a table and to be specific if you want to seat inside or outside. On a beautiful summer day, seating at the outdoor space with the live music is absolutely magical. Don’t miss this NYC gem.
This ‘beer garden’ is fantastic. Strongly advise you to pre-book as it’s super busy. You’d be completely taken away from the spacious Central Park and into a tavern with so much to offer. The food is really good, with specials of the day. Very good selection of drinks and really tasty cocktails. If your lucky enough to sit closer to the conservatory you can see the guys working in the kitchen and also get a good view of the out door. Must be beautiful during spring!!They accept major credit cards like AMEX.Staff are very attentive, so you’d have a lovely experience. They also have a gift shop by their cloak room which you can visit.Prices are towards the higher end but worth it.Check out my Instagram profile for me pictures like this. @thishan.rv
Really like the warm ambiance and the classic decor of the place! I think it’s a great romantic spot to have drinks or brunch! I’ve come here twice for breakfast and I will have to say I had a better experience this time, than my last time. I enjoyed the food so much more! I had the avocado poached eggs, the bread basket, and the yogurt. And it was delicious! The last time, I had the burger and was disappointed because the meat was over cooked and dry. However, I am really glad I gave it another chance and for sure would come back again. The staff was super kind and our waiter, Robert, provided a great service!
Went here for brunch on a Saturday so it was super busy but the staff was very prepared for the crowds and so we were seating pretty quickly. Be sure to have a reservation if you want to eat here in good time. I started with the green cocktail drink which included quinoa vodka, matcha, kiwis, and lime. For my entree I have the eggs Benedict Florentine minus the bacon and it was really good! We also got the chicken Caesar salad and the burger. Overall great experience at a NYC staple.
Tavern On The Green is an iconic landmark offering American cuisine in a festive setting with a balanced menu and seasonal ingredients. The customer service is excellent. During the holiday season youll find prix fixe menus and the kitchen is happy to provide gluten-free items so you can enjoy the menu during the holiday. The kitchen offered gluten-free items (but not a celiac friendly kitchen; kitchen contains gluten and wheat). The bread was delicious and I highly recommend them!
Beautiful place, wonderful service. The food was good not that many options I’d say. Perfect lighting really bright and the place has a lovely atmosphere. The only downsides despite me giving this place 5 stars is we had reservations for a certain time and we still had to wait for table to clear up. Asides from that perfect all round.
What a delightful and delicious experience! Tavern on the Green did not disappoint! The food was delicious and the service was above and beyond! We walked in and waited a short time for seating. While we waited there was a charming small gift shop or comfy chairs and sofas in grouping to relax while you wait.
Reservation recommended. Husband, 3 y/o daughter and I came to the tavern on the green after the restaurant we were going to was closed due to a private event. We arrived and were told walk ins were welcome to sit down around the bar and lounge if anything became available, the place was packed. I immediately made a reservation online, lucky to find a spot for only half hour later. Our table faced the outside with a huge Christmas tree and decor, beautiful view! Our waitress was knowledgeable on the menu and very nice, great service and the food was excellent. Truffle mac and cheese was delish, so was the vegetable flatbread which also had bacon. The steak sandwich with fries was oh so good! We were glad the restaurant we were going to was closed.
By far one of the best restaurants I have been to within a park environment. There is a large bar outside with its own bar food menu, you also have the option of having lunch, brunch or dinner. This location also provide a service on the go, where you can buy a beer or wine and walk right out. It is worth the money spent and time. I would definitely recommend this place to any one who lives in New York city or anyone visiting NYC.
Delicious roasted fig appetizer with maple thick cut bacon. The eggs benedict was absolutely amazing paired with a mimosa! Left stuffed and impressed. The interior was nice too except for a corner table placed right in the sunlight (if thats your forte then its no problem however)
Was actually pleasantly surprised by my dinner experience here during Restaurant Week. Maybe because it was Restaurant Week, the food was better than expected? We made a reservation through OpenTable, and ordered the chicken and cod fish entrees, the salad and the garlic shrimp apps, and the cheesecake and apple hand pie desserts. For $42 for 3 courses, the Restaurant Week deal was pretty decent. Cod and chicken entrees were nothing out of this world, but were much better than I expected. We were celebrating a birthday and had written that in the OpenTable notes and they remembered and wrote happy birthday on the dessert plate, which we appreciated. The worst part were the rolls/bread at the beginning of the meal — no amount of butter could help how dry those were!Service was good and ambiance and location can’t be beat!
Tavern on the Green is an NYC institution. Im glad its still around and doing well. The restaurant is beautiful, especially the bar area. The menu is pretty accessible for most people in scope and cost, dinner entrees are a little pricier but not unexpectedly so as this is an upscale place.Im pretty sure they have public restrooms here since theyre in the park. They definitely have a gift shop for the touristy crowd.

2022-04-24Lovely restaurant with a nice atmosphere. The food is very fancy (and a little expensive). Our waiter Nikolai did a great job and was more than accommodating. The only downer was the early close of the outdoor area (which I can understand as it was a little cold), because it becomes really beautiful in the dark with the beautiful lightings.

2022-06-20No surprise this was a 5 star experience. We loved the ambiance and the food - service was great! Would recommend making reservations well in advanced to get your desired date/time. Make sure to visit the perfectly curated gift shop on your way out.

2022-04-04We planned our lunch a few months in advance so we were able to get a table without any issues. It was a bit of a cold day but the way they are setup with a glass patio we basically felt like we were outdoors even though we were indoors. We ordered the special of the day - basically a shrimp salad and I ordered the fish and chips. My daughter ordered the peas and pasta dish and my younger daughter got chicken fingers. Everyone was happy with their meals - but we all agreed that the second best thing on the table were the fries from my fish and chips :)For dessert we ordered the Warm Chocolate Peanut Butter Lava Cake and the special of the day which was a pistachio dessert that was wonderful.Overall - this is a wonderful place for a lunch while in Central Park on your trip to NYC!

2022-01-05We were fortunate enough to experience a 60-degree day mid-December, so we enjoyed a glass of wine outside in the patio area. It was very busy but once we caught the bartenders attention, the afternoon flowed perfectly. The views from both the tavern and on our walk-through Central Park to the tavern was quintessential NYC! Tavern on the Green is a perfect place to stop, relax, recharge, and move on to whats next to explore in this magnificent city.

2022-02-13This place is beautiful but the food is not good. We came for the 2nd time, mainly for the view and tried the salmon, corn soup, salad and the burger. All were very bland and not impressive. If you want to go for the experience, Id recommend going for a drink and lite meal or just the burger and fries if you decide to go. Otherwise, if you want good food, Id recommend a million other places in the area

2022-04-30Food is great. The lamb is juicy and tender. Check-in is a bit chaotic during busy days. Have to wait 15 mins or so even with a reservation. The place seems to be slightly understaffed. Our sweaty waiter did his best. Will visit again for the location, ambience, and food.

2022-06-19Lovely waiters and very orderly seating experience. Made my wife feel really happy on her birthday! The food was delicious and it was nice to have an alcohol free IPA available to go along with my steak sandwich.

2022-01-03Interesting place, you’ll want to sit outside as the location is the big attraction here. The courtyard is a great place to people watch and relax. Food was terrific too and helpful service by hostess, seating. We had two backpacks full and needed a booth rather than a table - no problem!
