Terroir in other cities:
Excellent wine bar with many good wine choices. The charcuterie and cheeses they have are excellent. The best part is the service. Specially Jake. He went was exceptional. I could taste any bottle and for every wine he ensured I like it before serving it. It was a very pleasant experience. Sole of the wines were not good but most were and since you can try you are sure to pick something to your taste. They do have beer and other drinks as well. Prices are also very good for Manhattan. Go early for 2 reasons: it gets very crowded and noisy; happy hour 4-6.
One of my favorite locations. Tom was super friendly, and I appreciated the great service and conversation. As part of the industry myself, I know how difficult it is to maintain the balance of good service and good hospitality and their staff does an excellent job. Wine list is great, and the menu is a hoot to read. Great spot for conversation. You can relax and unwind here with no worries.
I’m sure the wine bar is fantastic. but, we were only participants in the “virtual wine tasting” and it was underwhelming. no real give and take with your fellow zoomers and a knowledgeable individual...rather a powerpoint geography lesson with a heavy dose of je ne sais quois. 2 of the 3 wines selected for the “class” were actually quite good. the zoom format was totally underutilized.
Come for the happy hour, stay for the incredible wine list. The frozen pisco sour and the frose were both delicious & the happy hour price was solid. The wine list is extensive (be ready to dive in), but the servers are very knowledgeable and can give great recommendations on glasses of wine based on what you generally like.
Overall five stars - food was quite good, service was helpful and very good. Great opportunity to try a number of different wines. Didnt have a great selection of sparkling - and the ones they had were not terribly good - but appreciate that this may be due to Covid so would not impact my rating or desire to return!
Fantastic experience - Jamba was a fantastic waitress and Paul is also an incredible character. We had a great time learning about the menu and wine from them - tip, ask them what wine to go with (the wine menu is purposely intimidating). Burger and the pigs in the blanket were great as well. Will certainly be returning now that we’re in the neighborhood. Cheers!
This place is amazing. The staff is really knowledgeable, accommodating, and the opposite of pretentious. I couldn’t decide on what I wanted so our server brought out 3 or 4 different wines for me to try. Also their pours are very healthy. If you are of a certain age ( >40 but < 60) you will appreciate the amazing selection of 80’s alternative music (Echo and the Bunnymen, Depeche Mode, The Smith’s) all curated by the owner who is a really cool and super knowledgeable about wine and music.
Love this little wine bar! Have been with a few groups of girlfriends and we always have a great time. Extensive wine selection with small bites on the menu (tasty food). Servers are very knowledgeable and can suggest various wines based on what you’re looking for. Would highly recommend for happy hour!
I recommend leaving your wallet at home and only bringing a prepaid gift card. The prices are fair, but the selection is sofa king good that you wont stop ordering glasses of rare vin jaune, so that when the bill arrives youll realize that youve consumed your leisure/food budget for the month and spilled into your yankee candle money, so now you cant afford the black market mango juul pods from the local bodega and youre already strapped for cash since your exs password stopped working for hbomax. And definitely taste some of the dry riesling!
Probably the best wine bar I have ever been to. The wine itself was fantastic (they got me to truly enjoy a Malbec!) but beyond the delicious, extensive and one of a kind selection, the service is what really steals the show. Paul and his crew gave us a night and experience to remember! They master the art of understanding the customer and matching them to their dream wine. I will be back every single time I am in NYC. Count on it!
Excellent selection of wines with an inclination for Rieslings and a menu that serves as a primer on each of the wines it offers. Written in quirky language and with an inclination for comedic effect, youll spend plenty of time reading the menu long after you order. The space has the energy of a traditional bar during important games more than a wine bar, but overall it is a great place to unwind and enjoy the crowd.
Whats not to love. Best wine bar in NYC. Hands down. Wine list is exceptional. Every wine on the list is picked with care, none will disappoint. And the staff is knowledgeable and helpful pointing you in the right direction. Food is good, not great, mostly light pairing fare. Expensive but worth it for exceptional wine in a quirky ambience that isnt haughty or condescending. Love it.
The wine list was exceptional, so full of interesting choices, none of which disappointed. We took a fair swing at their food too, trying everything from their lamb sausage to their orange-glazed chicken wings, to the hearty selection of breads, butters, cheeses, and meats. As a visiting wine professional from Seattle I was in heaven. Their food and wine menus alone would be enough to win them Fine Wines 2015 Worlds Best Wine Bar award, but the best part of my experience there had to have been Paul and Sabrina. They were knowledgeable about the wine they poured and friendly without being over-bearing. I asked them to put together some flights for my date and I and the wines were just perfect. So if you do not like wine, you must go for their staff will change your mind. If you do like wine, you must go to what I assume will be 2016s best Wine Bar in the world. And if you love wine, then you need to make a pilgrimage. Terroir is truly the holy land.
$80 bill for the happy hour? okay.when me and my friend walked in some guy just showed us a table where to sit. then no one ever brought the menu so we grabbed that from the table next to us.the menu looks a little confusing cause it has 50-100 pages.when this girl server came over without smile and I don’t remember if she even said hello, I asked her (three times, because she couldn’t get it) what’s your happy hour today, she said “what do you mean?”. it’s fine, I have a patience and asked her again if they have any wine or happy hour drinks, then she pointed to that huge menu and said “yes here”.okay, I figured that, even though it took me forever.I ordered a happy hour wine ($15), my friend asked for the margarita and our server said that they don’t have a margarita (are you guys really don’t carry tequila and some lime juice?).it’s fine we were nice to her all the time.my wine tastes funny, but I didn’t really say anything because it was enough of those awkward conversations.we ordered 24 happy hour assorted oysters ($1.25 each).oysters were fine and the guy who brought was the only nice person there so far.when she brought a bill it was $80 for a glass of wine, martini and those oysters.for 8 oysters they changed us full price $25, and when we asked why, she said because those type of oysters not on the happy hour.I said that we ordered just happy hour oysters and she said sorry about that.that’s it. we still paid that bill.I spent my money yesterday just like that, for nothing.I never leave any reviews but it was the worst experience I’ve ever had. Will never come back and I’ll make sure the people I know too.
This is a great spot to meet 2-3 people for a glass of wine at happy hour, or a cozy date. Happy hour deals are great, and theres a huge variety of wines to try at any time. The bartenders really know their stuff -- so if you dont know what to try, theyll be able to recommend something perfect for you!
What a perfect place. The wine selection is unmatched in both value and enlightenment. The oysters are beautiful and their in-house made sauces perfectly accent them. I wish we could also figure out the secret to the popcorn. You cant land in a better place than Terrior!
Really fun experience. It was packed when we went, but we were able to find spots a the bar, and the staff was super helpful and helped us make wine and cheese selections. We were worried it would be too expensive, but when we got the bill it was reasonable considering the service and experience. Each of our glasses were $14 and $18, respectively
The BEST wine bar we went to NYC. The sommelier Zoey was the most knowledgeable, funny, charming, charismatic I’d ever met, everything she suggested was perfect and her service style was amazing. As a group we were so impressed with the bar, the wines by the glass was insane and the service. Highly recommend to anyone, tourist or local and someone, promote ZOEY!!!
I was there yesterday and the place is fine. I am giving a one star review because the glass of wine was $20 and the cheese and meat plate had such small portions it wasn’t enough for me and my brother. This place should have three dollar signs instead of two! I don’t think the place worth the price.
Ive loved this place for a long time. As a huge fan of Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, etc. youll be hard pressed to find such a wine list anywhere else in NYC. The ambience is low key but the staff super knowledgeable. Just wish that the recent changeover of food menus hadnt happened. The old menu was so much more appealing! It still serves small plates, but the go-tos that seemed to be loved by all are no longer on the menu.
Face-saving disclaimer: I dont know that much about wines. But this little local chain definitely helped me understand a little more with their Summer of Riesling series that they do every year. They have great deals during their Happy Hour glass-to-glass, but Im not sure I would come here otherwise. The staff working there doesnt seem the most knowledgeable since they all seemed very young (too young to have the taste bud history required for an expert), but definitely friendly. Edibles there are definitely overpriced. What else can I say? After visits to two of their branches, Terroir is still not that memorable to me (and I definitely didnt have enough wine to merit the forgetfulness).
Just about the best wine bar in the city. Attractive, classy, comfortable space in one of the citys most posh districts, befitting of the beverage being poured. But the formality ends there. As a matter of fact, you might as well be hanging out in your partially psychotic friends apartment. Deliciously iconoclast, witty t-shirts, ridiculous menu descriptions, over abundance of puns, obscure cultural references, and all.The only reverence for anything in this shop is the grape juice in the glass, and Terroir isnt messing around.Because guess what? The wine is YUMMYYou might want to stick around for a few rounds.
Just what you want from an actual bar that serves wine and not just another restaurant calling itself a wine bar: go sit at the bar, enjoy the snacks and dig into the broad and very well represented wine list with entries from pretty much all over. Organic, bio, macerated or conventional? You got it. Knowledgeable staff and good, oldschool bar atmosphere.
My wife and four friends stumbled upon this restaurant while in the area. It had good reviews on Yelp and they took our large group in with no issues or reservations. We sat on a high, long table and each ordered different things. My wife, one friend, and I split a cheese plate and meats. We asked the server to surprise us and he brought us out an amazing (and diverse) selection of cheeses and meats (Including boar meat!). My Delaware friend ordered their meat ball sandwich and said it was the best sandwich she had in her life. By the looks of the sandwich, it was hard to believe, but when my Delaware friend says she loves something, it is objectively the best! They also have an expensive beer, wine, and CIDER list. If youre in the area, stop by Terroir Tribeca!
Horrible noisy place. Its impossible to relax & enjoy food & a glass of wine in a small room of hard surfaces full of people yelling their heads off. Im not talking about a crowded bar just after close of business on a Friday, but an ordinary Tuesday night after 8, with only half the tables taken & no reason at all for it not to be cosy & quiet. The fault may well lie with New Yorkers & not with the proprietors, but nevertheless a vile experience. My ears buzzed for 20 minutes after leaving. The food was OK: lamb meatballs & the pear salad were good, but the haloumi spoiled by being treated as a french fry, destroying the wholesome flavour you expect from a good grilled or seared halloumi. Ick.
I went to Terroir on Mon night with a friend of mine, we came more than an hour before closing, not too late. They were already wrapping up the bar, rushed us to order and it felt like we were not welcomed. The service was surprisingly rude for Tribeca. I dont go there anymore and Ill make sure my friends dont go there either.
Heres a place so poorly conceived and run that it can almost be admired for having opened at all. Its incredibly loud even when less than full, which might be forgivable if there was some high-design at work in the architecture, but—alas—the æsthetic is entirely forgettable. The menu (bound in a clunky three-ring binder) is so cluttered and poorly arranged that its almost impossible to get through the whole thing, and thats particularly problematic since the food is split-up, half at the beginning and half at the end (for no evident reason), with the wines, beers, cocktails, and—no kidding—various angry manifestos in the middle. The wine selection is mediocre (and underwhelming given the name of the place); the beer selection is only a little better. But the crowning failure of Terroir is the service, which is so slow and unresponsive, it might as well not exist.Advice to those who like to hit every venue in town at least once (and we salute you!): Make sure you approach Terroir with much time, patience, and—most importantly—willingness to laugh.
Atmosphere is nice - exposed brick and small enough to feel cozy. The wine didnt thrill me - I tried a reisling and a merlot, but the food was better than I suspected. Enjoyed a cheese plate, bruchesetta, a fritta, and a small salad. This is a great place to duck into for a quick bite with a friend. I did think the drinks were a bit overpriced/not impressive, but perhaps I just struck out.
The greatest wine bar owned by the greatest Somm. What more can one say? Killer Riesling program but by no means limited to that. Vertical of Bartolo Mascarelo Barolo. Tons of Burg. Delicious, kicked up food. And if Paul Grieco is in you have a chance to visit with a somm legend. Go!
GO HERE! That is, if you want to have: delicious wine, mind-blowing wine, mind-opening wine, or funky I-didnt-know-wine-could-taste-like-meat, wine. You want a glass of yummy? Terroir has it! The best part of terroir are the servers because they are tremendously knowledgable, do so much, and can choose something scrumptious specifically for YOU! Regarding food, they have tasty snacks like the grilled chickpeas but I recommend eating a heartier meal before. Enjoy the watering hole that is terroir and go on, try a damn riesling.
Very disappointing service tonight at le terroir. We had a reservation, really wanted to try the place, everything was good except for the waitress we got. Not only did she not make good wine recommendations, her service was so unfriendly that we decided to leave after a glass and go somewhere else. When you’re only in NY for a few nights you wouldn’t want to waste one on a rude waitress.
One of my absolute favorite wine bars in New York City! Who loves Riesling is just right. Great wine list. Focus on Riesling & Burgundy. Rieslings from $ 45 per bottle. Tapas style food with open kitchen. Changing menu. Relaxed and cozy atmosphere - no Schickimicki! Owner Paul Greco. Riesling Revolution and founder of #summerofriesling

2021-09-01I had two and a half days in Manhattan on a layover.Im a wine nerd. Could have gone to many different wine bars.Came here twice and nowhere else.If youre a wine enthusiast or not, the knowledge and passion of the staff will impress. Talking to the owner, Paul, was a blast.Very reasonable pricing and very, very unique menu that is great reading as a textbook, editorial, and tasting notes of the wines on the menu.

2022-04-10Really fun place if you like wine. Huge and and funny menu - though it was also easy just to get great recommendations from the bartender. Nice menu of charcuterie and small plates so you can also definitely do a meal here. The lamb meatballs were particularly good.

2022-02-15An amazing place. I inquired about a private wine tasting via an online form; and, almost immediate received a response from Emily in their events department. I told her the wine preferences me and my husband had, and wow...they really hit the nail on the head. We loved some of them so much, we took pictures and are hoping to be able to find it somewhere!I really have to give Joel, the sommelier who hosted us, a huge shout-out. He was fantastic. Easy to chat with; and, he made us feel right at home. He guided us through the tasting expertly. We really appreciated his timing of everything, too. He not only didnt rush us, but always seemed to know the right moments to come over and continue the conversation. It was clear he was knowledgeable and passionate about wine. Its clear when you meet some people that theyre meant to do the work that they do. Joel is definitely meant to work in hospitality--the kind of people person you feel like youve known all along! We cannot wait to return to Terroir!

2022-02-13I almost never have a clear idea what wine I’m going to order when I take a seat here. I put my trust in the staff who are knowledgeable, friendly and quick to offer a taste of the wine for you to try before you commit to a full pour. The rice balls are delish snacks - perfect combo of texture and and saltiness. Communal tables in the back get crowded and lively after work.

2022-07-02Great little bar with some of the most “by the glass” I have ever seen. The Bible of wine selection was awesome, uniquely designed and comical! The staff was very knowledgeable. Great place to see what you like and don’t like in the wine world!

2022-05-07Recommended by the Shinola shop around the corner. Walked in to a great vibe and ambiance. A server offered a free glass of wine to a person seated at the bar if she would move so we could have three seats together. Already getting a great feeling about this place! Have a seat and order wine and my friend decided she’d like a t-shirt and a few minutes later the owner, Paul, comes over and spends the next 20 minutes tasting wine with us and completely entertaining us. He kept his eye on everything the entire time, you can tell he really wants everyone to have great service and the best time, which we did. We didn’t eat, but the food looked amazing. We will definitely go back when next in Manhattan.

2022-06-09Good vibe and really happy with the service but the food and wine were expensive for what you get, so it wasn’t a good value. Used to be a cool spot, but now the quality of food and drinks have gone down. Tried a few cheeses and they were all quite bland.

2022-04-27Wow, great little wine bar tucked away in the West Village. Beautiful selection of wines, just phenomenal, and super helpful staff. Perfect place to spend a few hours on a lazy Saturday afternoon.

2022-06-06I have visited Terroir a few times with the gf and loved every trip. Wine selection is great & staff are extremely knowledgeable. I chose to come here for a wine tour I organised last Saturday and Emily was extremely supportive in putting together a 2 hour event outside for us. Our server on the day was Travis (hope ive got that right) and it was fantastic. Everyone had a great time, loads of top quality wines, and good food. One of the best wine bars in NYC!
