I feel really horrible giving a low review for a restaurant I was eager to dine in but i have to be real. If you want to go simply to take picture then this is the place for you. If you want true authentic African food then you need to go elsewhere. The portions are for a toddler. When I got my jelloff rice the server was scraping food from a bottom of a pot. I informed him the pot was done and he said the next batch wasnt ready. I ended up with a handful of bay leaf and slightly burnt rice. The chicken was marinated in oil and rosemary no seasoning what so ever. The only thing that was actually edible was the watermelon salad which wasnt even on the menu. To make matters worst when we returned to our table after ordering the chairs, my bag and coat was missing. I panicked! Come to find out it was thrown to the side because they were filming in the restaurant. What a disaster. Due to the poor quality of food I am not surprised that when I actually looked around people were not eating only drinking coffee.
Amazing events throughout the year as the Center offers a variety of diverse cultural entertainment. Constantly evolving art installations showcase many African artists Im various mediums. The food at Teranga is Amazing as well! Super Chill spot to grab a bite to eat, or check some emails and people-watch on 5th avenue .

2021-10-02Celebration of the African Heritage Month was another opportunity to meet with friends, families and immigrants from all the 54 African Countries at the African Centre in New York. This Celebration brought together the African musical vibes from beautiful African music stars. The African centre is a beautiful place to visit for site seeing and tour. It has a restaurant where you can get breakfast and simple African delicacies from West to Central African meal.Nigerians are dominating in terms of numbers as they all seems to be present at every 5 African.

2022-03-10Went for the “African/American: Making the Nationʼs Table” by The Museum of Food and Drink in partnership with The Africa Center. Small exhibit, but very well put together and informative. Even held my small childrenʼs interest.

2022-01-31This is an oasis in the heart of NYC. I enjoy the outdoor events in summer and virtual conferences and exhibits. The restaurant is a cozy and quaint spot to grab a comforting tea and snack.

2019-06-30Wonderful space.the most recent exhibit is really nice and at times heartbreaking. My only complaint is that its not a bigger space with more exhibits.

2021-08-01In the three years the “Africa Center” has been intact they have done nothing except build a popular dining experience and hub for street parties. They, in my eyes, have made no effort to curate exhibits to go in actual museum. They have simply kept the taxes down for the tenants that live above in their exorbitantly expensive condos. I have seen not one more obvious sign of corruption in my time in NY. They should be ashamed. They even went as far as to add signs that say MOFAD (museum of food and drink) a nod to their cafe, the only functioning part of the “museum.” The word is evil.

2020-02-02So they aren’t fully open yet, but the cafe is and let me tell you it’s amazing. The coffee is great, have come with multiple people who all enjoyed what they got. I get the iced latte with almond milk, can’t go wrong. I’ve had their salmon for lunch with the two sides and it was good only downside is that the portions are small. The people here are also very kind.

2020-01-27An excellent cafe for a warm, caffeinated drink or a full meal any time of day. The staff here are very friendly, and there is plenty of seating to do work or engage in conversation. The atmosphere of the cafe is very good for working, and Ive spent many a pleasant weekend afternoon here. There is also a large selection of Africa related books for perusal that you can read in the cafe. Id highly recommend stopping by the Africa Center cafe for something to eat or drink. Its definitely one of my favorite places on the upper east side to work outside of the office.
