Beautiful place, new owners tanks were beautiful very clean. The guy I spoke to (didnt catch his name) was very nice and helpful. This place seems to be very good at keeping track of inventory and when shipments are coming (granted this is a first impression and unverified, will find out if what they say theyll have next week they will have). But overall my experience today and what I saw I have no problem what so ever driving 10 minutes out of my way to visit this place over going to pets warehouse. Keep it up guys I need a great fish store to go to and this looks like a winner.
All tanks have dead fishes! they don’t even bother to get the dead fish out!!! The glofish tank has more than 3 dead fish stuck on the filter turning white! I bought three fishes, they have ich! I told them to exchange one of the fish because it looked dying. They said once the fish get out of their tank they can not exchange anymore! I asked to exchange right after I pay, I did not even leave the store! Then I got home, a few hours later the unhealthy fish die! do not go to this store!!!!!
Have been buying food and chemicals for a year. Today I walked in to purchase food and found a tank that was a show tank with a wrasse in it that I wanted. The fish retails for 69.99 the man working there said the owner is going to charge you 149 because its in the show tank. I told him thank you but I would not pay that premium for the fish and thank you. With that the owner became aggressive towards me like he was doing me a favor overcharging me. I said I spend a fair amount of money in this store and I try to support local establishments, his response was I work all the time and have never seen you here I am the owner if you dont like it leave. I did exactly that and explained to the owner he had no clue about customer service. His fish are always sick they all drain to the same system and I would never ever spend another dollar in that store after meeting the belligerent owner. Too bad his staff is really nice and helpful a young man who is there on the weekends knows his stuff. The owner also has a different price if you pay cash or charge. Update manager Peter calls me today Oct 31 , 2018 to threaten me about what happened in the store and that he will be suing me because what I posted was he claims is slander.
We used to love this place. They were helpful and had tons of fish and corals to choose from.In our opinion the place has gone downhill. Dirty tanks, algae, half the tanks are closed down, coral selection diminished, no help. We’re sorry to see it. What a shame. They used to have a large friendly staff, now they’re down to one guy and a girl who was actually very nice. They really need to get back to how they used to be.Sorry to say we won’t be back.
There were only two people working there so it took forever to get what I needed. I think the stuff was also a little overpriced granted Im from CT so everything is cheaper. Additionally quiet a bit of the stock was dead or unhealthy looking. That being said, the young man that helped me, idk his name but he kind of looked like Steve Harrington from stranger things, was amazing and took his time to make sure I got what was healthy and attractive.
Amazing selection and some of the best reefers on long island to help guide you through your purchases! whether you are new to the hobby or a seasoned vet at fish keeping this store is perfect for you! they do set up and maintenance of all kinds of aquariums! top notch reef keeping equipment as well! must see this store!
Stay away from this place! The saltwater systems are infested with parasites (flukes). I was going to purchase a flame angel and noticed them on most of the fish on the wall. Came back a month later and they still didnt remedy the problem. The RO water I bought tested at 37 tds. My tap water is better than that! They have a nice coral selection but theres no AC on in the summer so I cant imagine how high the temp of the water is and its dreadfully hot in the store where I dont even want to browse. The dry goods are reasonably priced. I only go there for food and accessories. I wouldnt trust any livestock sold from this place. They dont seem to care at all about the well being of their animals. I tried to schedule maintenance on my tank but there was never a call back. Try Tropical Showcase if you want to deal with professionals .
This is our go-to fish store, wide variety of healthy salt water and freshwater fish and coral. I have been going here for about 5 years and have never lost any fish I purchased from aquarium village. Ask for Steve or Andy if you need assistance, they are my favorite employees, very helpful and knowledgeable.
Its hit or miss with these guys. One day youll walk in and the manager will be nice to you, the next time, he treats you like youre man who killed his fish. The only thing that remains the same is all of the staff treats you as if you were retarded and know nothing about fish keeping... even when you clearly know more. But hey, they have a great collection of fish. So if you know what you want, go there. If you have questions... get ready to be treated like a moron.
First time going to Aquarium village on June/7/2020First impression is woh nice store, stock verity of dry goods especially all the tank in stock. Then I continue to look around, after 10 minute no body come by & ask how can I help you today!! The worse part is when I first I ask the sale person how much is the Pyramid butterfly!!He respondI DON’T KNOW!!I have to check the price & ask the owner!!I said ok2 minutes later he came back say is $100 for the Pyramid butterfly. Then I ask did the fish start eating yetHe respondI DON’T KNOW!!HUH !! Another I don’t know???He said All fish just arrived yesterdayOk,,,Then he turn around go grab a cube of frozen food put into the tank. Few minute pass the fish is not eating yet because just arrived yesterday. I passThen I ask him how much is this butterfly and the name of the fish !!He answer again, I DON’T KNOW AGAIN (2 wuestion Three times I don’t know)Then I tell him this is Raccoon butterfly fishI ask him how muchYou know what!!I’m sick and tired with his responseI DON’T KNOWHe also has a very rude no eyes contact at all, un patience attitude and while he talking to me or customers he always looking at his phone.Probably he in the middle dealing with a MILLION DOLLAR CLOSING SO HE CANNOT LEAVE HIS PHONE. Very un professionalIf he doesn’t know the products and species in the store he working at, I suggest the owner should have give them a lesson, test & teach them.Next time write down the price on the tank so customer don’t have to keep asking how much it this & how much is that.I just end up purchase a large black egg-crate & 2 pack of frozen food. After I paid I ask him what is your name sirHe respond I am Kye. I’m not sure my spelling is correct. He is tall skinny guy.My invoice # 16099Total amount — $54.31Supposedly my transaction is $162.00 + tax or more but due to the lack of experience, in patience and bad attitude SALES PERSON he couldn’t sell me the butterflies fish. ALL HE KNOW IS, I DON’T KNOW & HE CANNOT GOT OFF HIS HANDS ON THE PHONE.
Used to love this place in early 2000s.The place kinda died since they changed place few years ago. Never asked but maybe new ownership. Much less fish selection, in fact it is very poor now, and price have gone from good to very poor. I check every few month but it is always the same.
Very small freshwater fish selection, if your going for salt there is a large selection. Some workers are very good and nice if you can get your hands on one, however some Dont know how to talk to people and only care about making sales rather than give the correct info, seemed like the ones doing that were the owners. Will certainly not be going back there.
I would normally leave an EXCELLENT review. Ive been coming here forabout 8 years and have spent $1000s on their beautiful selection of fish AND even tanks for my office at work. Theyve even given great deals on exotic salt water fish. HOWEVER, tonight 3/12/19 i have had the WORST customer service from the rudest young girl to have ever worked there. I called to see if i could come pretty close to closing. I told a gentleman over the phone that i just needed a few damsels. He said it was ok. As i pull up in front of the store, a young girl comes out and is standing by the door and asks what do i want when i got out of my car.... RUDE.... i explained i just hung up with a gentleman 3 minutes ago who said i can grab a few damsels. She blocks me from walking into the store and says which ones do you want because if you have to look, you cant come in. You can come tomorrow or another time.... RUDE. Mind you i JUST hung up with the guy only 3 minutes ago. Instead of reacting, i just said Ill take several damsels. She AGAIN BEING RUDE says well we have 10 different types and if you dont know which ones, i wont let you in... BEYOND RUDE at this point.. I dont know if she thought i was her peer, but Im over 40 years old. If she cant respect the customers, she should at least have respect for her elders! Im BEYOND disgusted at the service, or lack there of, i received tonight, and Im ESPECIALLY angry and humiliated that I was even subjected to that behavior. But i still give this aquarium village a high score. They have been great to me over the years. I have obtained this place before they moved to this current location when they were up ther block, and have always been professional, friendly, knowledgeable, and have always had a great selection. If they got rid of her, the staff would be A1 again.
Messy, you have to use the back door, front door is blocked by debris. Lots of fish tanks with no fish in them. Overheard evoke giving fish advice to family which was totally inaccurate. In that area minutes away theres at least 3 better fish stores that have everything you need
Found this gem nestled in a non-descript strip mall along Old Country Road. So far they have the best livestock Ive seen in Nassau. Much better than the 2 surrounding stores. Prices are pretty good too and their selection of food and tanks (both new and used) are plentiful. Theyve won my business.
*Very wide selection of saltwater fish & corals. Great live rock selection.*Edit: The fish selection has taken a downturn in quality last few times I visited. Coral selection has increased dramatically. Just sad to see so many deceased fish when I walk in.Edit - 9/5/17 - Dead fish in 80% of tanks. Disgraceful. Claim to have WWC now...must have their dregs swful supply. Sad to see a LFS sink so low.
I bought some initial supplies from Petco for a 10g freshwater aquarium. After running into some trouble, I went to Aquarium Village and they helped me out big time. They didnt try to sell me anything new or unncessary. They just spent time with me and answered all my questions patiently and were so nice. I am most allreciative and will be doing all my business there in the future.
I went tyo visit the store and found multiple dead fish or fish dying in the corner of the aquariums. When I asked someone they said they just received fish and sometimes it happens. I saw many half eaten fish. One person came up to me after 20-25 mins of just looking around. I wanted to like this store but the dead fish, wet floors and lack of employees makes me give this store 2 stores.
Dont waste your time stopping in this place. They are arrogant and dont have the first clue on what the definition of customer service is. They promise you the world and deliver on nothing. The quality of their livestock is terrible. You will just throw your money away by coming in here. Save your money and go to a quality store.
When I walked in I wasnt greeted by anyone, when you start looking through the tanks there is a lot of dead fish and sick fish which is a big no no when taking fish home. Then I was walking around and there are buckets with huge catfish trying to jump out . The only thing buyable is there hardscapes with a good selection of rocks and drift wood.
Very disappointed today with one of the staff members at Aquarium village!Went there today for what would have been my third weekend in a row going there from Queens. Each time I have bought something. I made the 45 minute ride out there in traffic with my 8 year old son. When we finally parked and reached the entrance of the store something bothered him ..I dont know if it was the long ride or maybe the smell of the store but he started to throw up as soon as we walked in. I quickly put my hand over his mouth and rushed him out of the store and had him throwing up on the side of Old Country road. After he seemed to have finished I took him to Dunkin Donuts on the corner to wash him up, get him some water and use the restroom. (apparently aquarium village tells its customers to use the restroom there as theirs is always out of order ) As I am heading back to Aquarium village I see an employee outside opening the door. I approached him and I apologized profusely about what happened and he turned to me with the BIGGEST ATTITUDE AND SAID WELL YOU COULD HAVE TOLD SOMEBODY I became LIVID. I said EXCUSE ME WHAT DID YOU WANT ME TO DO? LEAVE MY 8 YEAR OLD ON THE SIDE OF OLD COUNTRY ROAD THROWING UP WHILE I GO BACK INSIDE AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU KNOW HE THREW UP???? The employee also added that i had disappeared for 20 minutes. Instead of someone asking ME if he was ok this is the response I received! For all this little ignorant man knew my son couldve been seriously ill. As any parent knows your first and only priority is to make sure your child is ok. I rushed inside and told the manager what had happened and he apologized. a simple Im sorry however doesnt erase the lac of compassion that was shown to me. Needless to say this would be my last time going to this store and i refuse to spend another DIME on them and their rude unprofessional and ignorant staff!
Best aquarium on earth!I went from never having an aquarium before to having a beautiful 90 gallon cichlid tank (Peacocks & Haps). If youre a Cichlid guy, Jimmy is the man. Hell work with you on picking out the right fish and will even try to get special fish in on for you.Best part is, they have provided a lot of free advise on water quality, tank setup, fish termperments, etc. and they dont mind taking time to talk to you about it. They are all in the hobby too which makes it nice.

2022-06-28This store is under new management as of early 2022. With Joes help, Mike and Krystian came over from Manhattan Aquariums to revamp this location into the new LFS destination for everything Marine, Freshwater, and Planted. Along with the staff, everyone worked very hard to bring the customers a brand new shopping experience. We appreciate the efforts theyve put into it, and hope The Aquarium Shop will keep the location going for many many years to come.

2022-06-27Recently changed ownership. Clean and helpful but still not as much fish etc as expected in a place that size. I did get a beautiful golden angel fish.

2022-06-12Walked in today and was shocked to find that this store looked entirely different, it is incredible. They really revamped the place. The employee told me it is under new ownership and you can definitely see it.Their employee was honest. He told me about the sick fish and which ones to avoid until they finished treatment. He explained that the store was not importing new fish until they completely isolated the disease. Every fish store has diseases, but not every fish store is upfront about it, and not every fish store makes such an awesome effort to keep their tanks healthy. This place is going to be the new hotspot for hobbyists for sure. Especially once they finish stocking up their tanks in the coming weeks.

2021-07-11Place is dirty and disgusting. saw a huge live cockroach, a bunch of mini ones and mold growing on the ceiling. I had told one of the employees and he said yea the owner knows but doesn’t wanna do anything about it. On top of that, fish are in poor condition and always have an illness/ parasite yet are way over priced. They have a VERY limited selection. Don’t dare get a coral from their either, they are loaded with flat worms. And don’t get any merchandise either it is outdated or used. Just for a 10 gallon tank was over 30$.. petco has way better and way cheaper items. Never again will I shop here. I have been stopping in from time to time to see if anything changes but everything stays the same and the coral/fish never sell and just die from not being cared for.

2021-09-11This place is incredibly depressing. About 5-6 years ago this place was great!!! I was here last week and boy have they gone under... Half their systems are shut down, the one they have running are either empty or have dead fish. There was a fish in here a few weeks back I named him Larry. Next week I came in Larry was dead. Then the other day Larrys rotting body was half deteriorated stuck to the filter!!! Just take Larry out already... Everything is overpriced and dying. Also the guy tells me they NEVER do water changes and it definitely all makes sense now. Hopefully they get their stuff together otherwise Im afraid to bring my kids to this place because they will be scared of all the dead fishes...

2020-05-03I like this place a lot. Staff is helpful- there is one in particular that really goes out of hours way to help and give you information- but some of the other staff aren’t super friendly. Great selection of freshwater plants, fish, inverts, as well as saltwater. Tanks are clean and well maintained. Lots of supplies- though some of the tanks and decorations for sale are collecting dust. This store tends to have some livestock that other aquarium stores don’t have. Prices are fair.

2018-04-15Nice stock. Customer service is horrible! The experience there could have been much better without the rude attitude towards customers willing to pay. Little did they know I came with my wife and they were snickering at me when I asked if they could help me with the price for a bulk order of fish. My wife observed everything from afar. The professionalism is definitely not there. Ive been to many fish stores and I have been in the hobby for 20+ years. Avoid store if you can get the livestock elsewhere. Definitely a bit overpriced. Just trying to inform the fish hobbyists out there.
