Not the experience I was trying to get, photos on the website are very deceiving. No restaurant on the facility(website promotes it)No bar or breakfast areaRooftop closed.Hotel is ok for a night but definitely theirs better Options for the moneyRoom are decent but show at lot of ware
Positive: The two room suite we got was spacious, clean, and the staff was welcoming. Overall experience was excellent. Negative: There wasnt an extra blanket for the fold out bed. Im sure it was just a matter of asking for it from the lobby, but we were really tired from the flight to the city and a delay on the subway. Small detail with no effect on overall experience.
This is not actually a four star or luxury hotel, but if you expected that with such reasonable room rates for NYC, thats on you. It is clean, reasonably quiet, and well located for transit along the East Side. My room only had a view of a back alley, but I didnt come to the city to hang out in a hotel room.
Stay away of this hotel otherwise you might get charged with some unexpected and hidden charges. I got charged $120 after I checked out despite of not using any of amenities. I contacted the number they have provided on their website to ask what was this amount about. The representative told me she was a “third party” and she would transfer my message to the hotel. I’ve been still waiting for them to get back to me and nothing has happened after a week! It’s just unbelievable in this day and age you get charged without any explanations.
The hotel itself is ‘ok’ nothing too special but not terrible. What is disappointing is the extra fees not included in your room rate for things that you’d expect to be included in your room rate. What is the Hotel Facilities Fee included on my bill? Our Hotel Facilities Fee is $39 plus tax per room, per night and provides you with the following amenities:• $I0 mini bar credit• Wireless Internet on all your devices throughout your stay• 24/7 access to our state-of-the-art fitness center outfitted by TechnogymIn-room artisanal coflee and tea ofleringsUnlimited business services including printingUnlimited local and domestic long-distance callsGuaranteed late check-out of 2 PMAccess to Concierge Services*Must be redeemed daily. Cannot roll over*Hotel Facilities Fee is exclusive of service gratuitiesAnd there’s no option of not paying and not using them. All the other hotels I stayed in on this trip included WiFi (that’s just expected in 2022) and you could pay for extras, if you were going to use them. They didn’t just charge you to bump up profits. There are plenty of better hotels for the same money in New York
Hotel is clean and well situated when checking out today i was tried to use a $10 coupon they gave me a check in only to be told you had to use that on day oneNo one told me this a check in. Girl was so incredibly rude and abrupt. I dont think i would return all based on this one horrible staff woman and her treatment
EXTREMELY NOISY!! From inside (where it was impossible to stay in the room with A/C working), from outside (even on 17th floor you can hear all street noises) and from next door (I heard people speaking and baby crying as if they were in my room). I had to sleep with ear plugs. And there is no restaurant, not even breakfast.Terrible experience.
Positive: The location was perfect, close to everything. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Our room was clean and comfy and even had a small kitchen area. Negative: The only thing I would say that I wasnt happy about is the fact that it is advertised as having The National, bar/eatery, and it is closed and looks to have been that way for a while.
Very luxurious but unbearably uncomfortable; technologically up to date but the mattresses are as good as hay mats and the pillows are as if you were sleeping on wet sand. Bathrooms were also very distasteful; the seat of the toilet hit the sink at its maximum height, so it wouldnt stay, the whole bathroom was fairly small, the shower head was too low, and was also hanging, disconnected from the wall. It was an okay experience but there were too many things I disliked to be able to say it was worth the money.
The staff in the Lobby is very nice. Cleanliness in the rooms, on the other hand, not so good:-never cleaned AC (picture attached)-not cleaned mirrors-price tags lying on the floor (I should assume that no one was vacuuming, too?)-cigar and matches left on the balconyAlso:-light in one room not working
Overall very satisfied. Room did not hv a view but no biggie...Fair size, nice kitchen, mini bar bcuz restaurant closed due to Covid. Michiganders here...We happy with anything.... In for 3 nights before Christmas to shop. Close to restaurants...CVS down street. Checked in online. Easyyyyyyy.....clean. pretty bath...small....Nice stay.
The room itself was amazing. It was clean and very spacious. However at check in, the employee at the front desk felt the need say it was not a “party hotel”. Also we had a few friends over since it was a Friday night. At first we were a bit loud but after receiving one warning about a noise complaint we lowered the volume. We received a second warning in which security said that whoever was not staying in the hotel had to leave. We had fifteen minutes to make sure they left or they were threatening to call the police. This caused me extreme anxiety and made me not even want to go back. I was extremely upset by this since we would have had no problem having everyone leave. The fact they threatened the police really put a bad taste in my mouth considering I was still a paying guest. I will NOT be recommending this hotel to anyone.
Huge, but ugly, rooms. More like a midtown motel than anything else. Lobby is fairly shabby, as are the elevators.Stayed here for one night, got a deal on hoteltonight, had I paid full price, I would’ve been very disappointed by the quality of the room, and the fact that the check in computer was down for 45 minutes when I arrived at 11pm.Definitely tourist class, but would be a good spot for a family with small kids to stay, adults take the bed, kids use the sleeper sofa.
Positive: I liked the doorman! He had lots of information and was super helpful. Negative: Some of the rooms mentioned a pillow bar so I was super excited about that. The pillows in my room sucked though and there were only 2 per bed. I don¿t know if they took the pillows from some rooms to have more in other rooms but that was a huge let do
Great reception/welcome experience. Quite surprised by the size of the accommodations given I requested a Queen Room in NYC Midtown. Clean. Classically appointed with a hint of glamour in the decor. Surprised by the presence of a tiny kitchenette... didnt expect that, so if I were visiting NYC on a personal trip, Id be all over that for stocking up in snacks, drinks, etc. I would return for another visit.
Will not be staying at The Benjamin ever again. Got scammed by the front desk with a “minibar deal” that they said was $100 credit which turned out to only be $10. I even confirmed if $100 was the deal and they confirmed yes it was. I got charged on my bill and have not been refunded. I’m very disappointed and will not be returning ever again. BEWARE OF THE FRONT DESK SCAM
The room itself was lovely, but the management was terrible. While having some friends over to watch a game, we were told that there were noise complaints. We quieted down SIGNIFICANTLY only to have a security guard tell me in a rude tone “You have 15 minutes to leave before the cops are called”. How does management take such a drastic leap in tone and call themselves a respectable establishment?! We are ALL paying customers and we were NOT being so loud that the second warning became a threat to call the police. In addition, the room was full of people of color and the people complaining, surprisingly enough (unless you’re educated) were all white. It could be a coincidence, but again, it’s definitely not.
Positive: The location, staff and suite layout were exceptional. Negative: The suite was NOT CLEAN at all. The sheets were stained yellow, the chairs and couch had spots on them and there were crumbs in the bed. Absolutely unacceptable, especially for a pandemic. Horrifyingly filthy.
Lovely historic hotel in a fantastic mid-town location. We had booked a one bedroom suite, with kitchenette and living room, so maybe our experience isnt typical, but I really loved the place. First hotel room I have booked in NYC where I felt relaxed. Although their restaurant and bar were closed during the time of our stay due to COVID restrictions, they are directly next door to one of the finest NY diners I have ever found. As well as a terrific little Japanese place serving up lunch bentos at a great price.
The room was really spacious. The bed was extremely cozy. The bathroom was beautiful with great natural light. The products were all Elemis which is a good brand. The staff was courteous. Special mention here for the bell boy Elias who was very helpful and gracious. There were a couple of employees who could perhaps be more affable. The location is fantastic. The 6 train subway station is literally right outside the hotel. Some great places to eat on Lexington ave. Would definitely recommend this place.
Positive: The very kind and welcoming gentleman at the front door. The well mannered engineer who fixed our safe that wasn¿t working. We didn¿t have an umbrella and they provided one for us. Negative: When my car came back from the garage, all the items packed in the back were displaced. It was as though they drove very fast (unlikely in the city), or hit a bump really hard in order for everything to be moved around with such force.
Originally I was very disappointed. But I mentioned it to the front desk and showed them the pictures of dirty and broken stuff. They seemed surprised and put me in another room. This one is a lot cleaner and nothing is broken. I still wish the restaurant was open. I think my first room might have been an anomaly.
I cannot say enough to praise this hotel. Ive stayed at close to 50 different hotels in NYC and am perpetually shocked at some of the establishments that are passed off as 3 or even 4-star. The Benjamin, however earns every star. The building itself is a gorgeous throwback to a bygone era exuding class and dignity all around. The rooms are classical, spacious, clean, and extremely comfortable (especially the beds). Often times I have found myself in a hotel hearing every conversation, creak, and party laying awake at night with an important meeting in the morning. Not here... Sweet, beautiful silence and a great nights sleep. The staff is incredible and helpful. The Nationals food is fantastic. I cannot beleive it took me this long to stay here - primarily because I had always assumed it was cost-prohibitive, but in actuality its right in-line with cost for a typical 3 or 4 star hotel in Manhattan, except again I reiterate most of those are vastly inferior properties. Book here and be delighted. I will definitely do so again.
My stay at the Benjamin hotel was for one night. I booked a suite. The lobby was clean and the check in process was quick. The room was spacious and also clean. I was not impressed with the decor but it could have been worse. The bathroom was probably the only real complaint I had. The toilet was pulled right out of a high school restroom. The shower had decent water pressure but was rather narrow and uncomfortable for having booked a suite. Overall my experience was not a bad one. I rate the hotel a 3.8 out of 5. I rate my experience in the hotel a 4 out of 5. (I did not eat at this hotel)
We look forward to staying here on our next visit. It is walking distance to most of the attractions. Bedding is very good to us. The kitchenette is a nice bonus. Hotel amenities were all excellent in the room. Very helpful staff. These people seemed genuinely happy to do things for us.
Rooms are decent if not a bit dated. The towels are great, and Im a stickler for good towels. They have pillow options which is cool. However, the hallways and doors are super noisy. The housekeeping staff was going in and out of some staff room late into the night and it kept me awake with the door constantly slamming. Sleep isnt that restful. So I cant rate this highly, which is a shame.
My stay in the hotel was quite pleasant. The staff there are all very friendly and were helpful. Very friendly welcome from the desk clerk. Wifi signal was good all over. Didnt keep the room an even comfortable temperature. The room was kept impeccably clean. We were really impressed with our suite.
Absolutely loved our stay here!Had a gorgeous suite on the 17th floor with a corner view. They did so many little things to make us feel welcome. The suite was impeccable and the bed was more comfortable than home.I dreaded having to get up early to leave. We won’t even think about going anywhere else next time back in NYC.I’ve passed it on to friends.Price was great too.A real oasis.
The stay was okay. But extremely overpriced. Also, there were no sheets which was very odd. I have never stayed in a hotel that did not provide a full set of sheets. There was a mattress cover, a normal sheet tucked under the mattress to act as a fitted sheet and then a comforter. There was no barrier between the comforter and our bodies, which was unsettling because hotel comforters are well-known for being unsanitary. There were only two very flat pillows, and all fabric felt very cheap.Overall, an okay stay. Hotel was in a good area, close to Grand Central. But extremely overpriced for what you are getting.
Our stay was a good experience overall. We stayed in a suite which was billed as the nicest in the hotel. The room had mid century modern furniture and was clean. I think something complementary with a suite can be a nice touch, like fruit or water - do not expect that here. The quality of the mattress could have been better. Nice staff.
Disappointed. Stayed at the Benjamin above 5 years ago and thought it was a gem. We rented a suite this time but it felt dated and not clean. Asked for the bedroom chair to be replaced as the seat cover has numerous stains. They removed the chair but never replaced it. Had no luggage racks in the room. Housekeeper services very spotty. Had to ask for washcloths. At the end of the stay had $35 per night for a facility fee. This turns out to be a fee for using internet and for printing. How many people use their printer?Always expensive in NYC but this place is a RIP off
Absolutely love this hotel. Great room, little kitchenette, easily can put groceries in the fridge. Utensils, plates, bowls etc included. Had asked for a crib for my son and it came with linen and a box of travel size baby toiletteries. The staff is kind, let us keep our luggage past check out, and noticed when we left a purse and walked away!!! Passports were in there and all important info to travel. So we were so incredibly thankful. Lovely visit, would go back in a heartbeat!Location was really great, a 20 min walk to Central Park and close to times square and subway.
The staff was incredible! However, my key card stopped working 3 times. It’s highly annoying to work all day, come back to your room and get a red light. My second issue is that there was a nightly cockroach party in my bathroom. Other than the roaches and faulty equipment, it was a pleasant stay.
The recently renovated, self contained rooms are more like apartment stays than a hotel. Whilst the exterior and public areas have old world style and charm, the room was modern and very comfortable. In-room heating/cooling is a bit loud and distracting to begin with but the city sounds and noises easily drown it out if police/fire drive past the hotel. The staff have been very friendly and the Golden Keys concierge is the best one-stop insight into things to see and do whilst in the city. The location is OUTSTANDING with everything a visitor or tourist might like, just a short walk away or a quick taxi ride. Highly recommended.
Napoleon Vazquez and the staff was amazing!! He helped us with our room and continued to make sure we had everything we needed to make us feel at home. I definitely would recommend for anyone to stay with folks at the Benjamin. Rooms were well kept and cleaned daily. You are close to everything in this area its the perfect spot. I would stay there again.
We had done a lot of research prior to booking and the Benjamin ticked all the boxes regarding what we were after, as our 16yo son was with us we wanted a one bedroom suite. As it was our 30th wedding anniversary I had contacted the hotel to see if I could upgrade to a balcony suite as there was no option to do so via BA. I thought the price per night was ok for having a place to sit out in Manhattan. When we arrived check in was super quick and the hotel had upgraded us to a terrace suite, when we seen the room and terrace it was WOW, absolutely massive living area with kitchenette and equally massive L shaped terrace with table and chairs. A bottle of bubbly in ice bucket was next to arrive, what a perfect start to our holiday.Lovely clean living areas and bathroom with a huge comfy bed with great pillows ensuring a good nights sleep. Son slept on a big sofa bed which he said was comfy as well. Very efficient air conditioning throughout. Big fridge freezer, microwave, coffee maker, sink and crockery in the kitchenette. Great housekeeping, room cleaned and fresh towels daily.Nice gym on the 3rd floor, the National looks great but never tried so can’t comment. The Benjamin is in a great location, really close to the Rockefeller center, Grand Central and Times square and has subway stations really close by. Loads of restaurants and diners near by.Reception and concierge, friendly and helpful.Always a smile and good morning or a welcome back from the doormen really nice guys especially Angelo who gave us lots of advice. Checkout at 12 which is good and the doormen store your luggage and arrange a car to take you to the airport. All in all a fantastic experience, really enjoyed our 10 nights, this was our first visit to NYC and the hotel really helped in making it so special. Will definitely be returning to the Benjamin.
Our stay at the Benjamin was pleasant, but just that. I wouldnt say anyone went above and beyond, was overly friendly, or that the rooms were anything special. Overall, a decent stay.Area is noisy in early morning, usually with police sirens getting through traffic. But quiet at night since this isnt a party neighborhood.
A fantastic hotel in a great location. I can’t think of anything negative to say about the Benjamin. Certainly the best of the many hotels we’ve used in Midtown, New York. We had a spacious room on the 16th floor; certainly larger than any of the other hotels we’ve used in New York. The room also had a larger than usual bathroom. Everything we needed was in the room and it included a small kitchenette with a microwave and fridge. We found this really helpful. All of the staff were great from when we checked in to when we left. The maid who cleaned our room deserves a special mention. We didn’t eat in the restaurant - we’re fans of New York diners, and there’s one a few doors away - but we had a drink there and it seemed really lively and buzzy. The location in Midtown suits us because it’s not too busy but close to everything. We screwed up on the WiFi but when we explained the charges were withdrawn with no problem. We’d never stay anywhere else in New York from now on.
The hotel is very nice and the room was well kept. The location is very good, its close to a subway station and Grand Central to get around easily but its also decent walking distance from sights like Rockefeller and Central Park. The beds are comfy the only issue is it can get noisy with traffic passing below, especially sirens for emergency vehicles which were situated on streets nearby. The staff were friendly and very helpful, always trying to help whatever the request.
Very disappointing. No bellman to help with bags. Front desk had no clue as to what restaurants were open in the area upon arrival. Requested service to room didn’t occur. Room wasn’t cleaned while we were away.If you’re merely looking for a place to sleep, this may be for you. If you’re looking for a place as The Benjamin is described, keep looking. And, don’t fall for the upgrade offer they email you before arrival. I responded within five minutes and it was no longer available.
The staff are so friendly and eager to help in any way. The whole place was very clean. The room provides relaxing ambient - good to unwind after long day at the office. We always thought we got our moneys worth. Arriving at the hotel was an immediate good experience.
Location is great for this hotel. Atmosphere is pretty cozy and filled with bright colors. The room are big for nyc it feels like a luxury suite but paying for only a standard room. Staffs are friendly, professional and helpful. Overall great experience here at this hotel.
Fabulous location; beautiful building; modern, clean, and spacious suites, and extremely friendly, courteous and professional staff. My son and I were blown away by how well we were treated by every hotel employee we encountered during our stay to celebrate my sons birthday.
Our home away from home in the city. Weve been staying here for the seven years and cant imagine staying anywhere else. The staff is is exceptional, our last visit was on my birthday and they went out of their way to make sure that everything was perfect. The location cant be beat, the room sizes are generous, the attached restaurant has a world class chef, and the hotels prices are reasonable. My only regret is that this review might make it harder to get a room!
Service was very good, amenities were nice, room was very nice and reasonably upgraded. I receieved a free upgrad to a suite, but unfortunately, that suite was on the third floor. Road noise on this floor is unbearable. Something like 70 decibels all night. Sirens, huge trucks, honking, etc. If you stay here make sure you do not stay anywhere near the bottom floors and you will be set.
I travel to NYC several times a year and have stayed in many different hotels. We recently stayed at The Benjamin and I was very impressed with the level of service from all the staff. Great location, clean rooms, professional and friendly staff. They really look after their guests. Jonathan at the front door was our favorite - couldnt meet a more helpful and friendly guy! We will be booking again here for our next trip. Thank you for a great stay!
We stayed in this hotel for 5 days during our trip. The hotel staff were very helpful and always polite and attentive. Everything was very clean at all times. All in all a good hotel in a good location with great transport connections. Modern comfort with traditional style and great New York unique atmosphere.
Pretty old. Small & noisy rooms. Mattress had poor support. Air conditioner was extremely noisy (its either sleep in the heat or dont sleep at all). Walls are not sound proof. No confortable / lounge chair in the room.Room was inconvenient: window in your back when seating at the desk, desk itself is super small, impossible to turn on the light from the door if you switched it off from the bed side, no hose on the shower head, slippery floor in the bathroom, TV cannot play medias from smart phone/ tablet or even USB drive. No breakfast before 7:30, and super slow service (at The National restaurant). Restaurant and bar are very busy and noisy at night / no quiet place to enjoy a drink when coming back to the hotel.I would expect (much) better for the price.
Easily the best hotel Ive stayed at in NYC.The bad: Paid extra for early check-in. Hotel ended up not being able to accommodate, but obviously waived the fee and then also waived the high-floor add-on I paid for (and ended up on the 17th floor out of 26 I think). Only one elevator was operational for about half the stay, but the wait times still werent bad. There was a tear in the corner of the fitted sheet on the king bed and then no flat sheet. Pull-out bed on the sofa didnt have a comforter. These were quickly fixed with a phone call to the front desk. The good: Extremely quiet in 1708. Couldnt hear the city sounds or anyone else in adjacent rooms. That would be a first for any hotel in NYC Ive stayed at. I specifically tracked down quiet hotel in nyc and the Benjamin was the top result on one of the sites I found. It ended up being 100% accurate. The suite itself was the perfect size, perfectly clean with great amenities. Shower had surprisingly strong water pressure. For once, a hotel shower was a pleasure to take part of.The view wasnt much to look at, but the front desk advised if I wanted a quiet room to take an inner room and I gladly obliged. Dont care about views. Do care about quiet. And they delivered.Front desk and especially the bell hops were attentive and quick to serve. Especially the bell hop we talked to as we were leaving. Who advised that a truck was overturned in the Lincoln Tunnel, screwing up pretty much ALL egress out of the city. This saved up a $150 uber we were going to get, and probably being stuck in traffic for 5-6 hours. His comment allowed us to take mass transit out of Manhattan, into Jersey, allowing us to catch an uber at Newark Penn. He deserved a big tip and felt bad about forgetting.Price was not bad at all. Ive spent a lot more at other so-called 4-stars and have been disappointed. The Benjamin killed it.All in all, extremely pleased and we will stay there again without hesitation.
This hotel was beautiful from the lobby to our room! The staff was super friendly, and it was just a joy to stay here. On top of it all, I ended up winning a free night stay through an Instagram company. It was run with a pj company that ended up dropping the ball (They messaged me at 4am and had given my prize away but 9am when normal people are awake.) Once I contacted The Benjamin and let them know what happened, they gave me a free nights stay. After letting them know I already had a three nights stay coming up over New Years and asking if theyd be able to upgrade us instead, they did! It was a beautiful suite, and my boyfriend and I were so thankful. We HIGHLY recommend! Its also in a nice central location!
DO NOT SUPPORT THIS HOTEL.I had reservations for the hotel March 20-22nd and I was traveling to Louisiana. The week of the reservation, NYC shut down all restaurants and then the shelter-in-place order went into affect. My state then issued shelter in place and closed all non-essential businesses the following Monday. Obviously it was neither a good idea I still travel to NYC and the travel was potentially also illegal.despite all of this- the Benjamin has refused to refund my prepaid reservation and refused to even allow me to reschedule the dates. When i provided a poor review on Yelp, the Benjamin commented on my review that they would refund my money and asked I contact/email the hotel. Despite this disingenuous offer and despite several attempts, the hotel has rejected my request for a refund.very poor business practices in this time of chaos and leaving false comments regarding a refund is even worse. Please do not patronize this hotel. There are plenty other hotels around the city that are accommodating these situations to choose from.
This was a great choice for our recent stay in New York City. We had an amazingly comfortable room, but what was most amazing was the pillow menu. Wow, what a choice of comfort! I also want to commend this hotel on their great staff, in particular, Jesse, who went above and beyond to make our stay at The Benjamin so wonderful. This was also an outstanding location, close to so many of the things people come to New York City to see and do.
Very good service but questionable communication among staff members. Booked three days in advance for the dog package with a Bark Box. Called three times to guest services when we arrived, talked to someone twice at the front desk, was told I would get a follow up (none what so ever) then I had to follow up again on my own after giving them a days chance....was finally told they were sold out. I did receive a email confirmation on the second day that my submitted request was completed? Afterwards their resolution was an offer to go to Pet Co and free of charge dog bed and bowls for use during the stay
Very pleasant midtown hotel experience in an authentic original historical NYC high-rise building. Kitchenette allows a peaceful in-room breakfast but there is also an excellent restaurant in house. Gym and own spa in the hotel too. The location is a hit with short distance to everywhere worth going in Manhattan.
My first experience with this irresponsible hotel was miserable. We booked thru Agoda. Got confirmation number. But they said the Agoda made mistake and wont talk to us. Racism. Because we were Asian, they act as if we didnt understand what they were trying to say. From customer point of view, its you and your agent problem but u should b responsible. We had to drive around with small kids tiring, couldnt find place to stay. We called more than 20 hotels before we gave up. I had great experience in New York before entering this hotel. Their staff irresponsibility and looking down on us making me feel bad for the hotel, not sure if that was their culture. You dont even deserve a star. Your management hear what you have dont to us!
Great midtown location, close to subway, restaurants, grand central, Times Square. Really fine staff, amazing service, well appointed rooms (some with their own balconies or terraces). It’s really the staff that puts it over the top. They remember you from year to year, and are professional, friendly and courteous. I can’t say enough about how much we enjoy staying there. Weve spent time at the Benjamin each year and weve not had one bad experience. I look forward to my time at the Benjamin.
Not worth the price you pay, for sure. The hotel is quite disorganised, bringing me 3 visits to my room in the first couple of hours I was there... One on my request to clean the toilet bowl, which was unpleasantly dirty when I arrived. The second to change batteries in a bedside clock. The third to check the minibar for consumption (by mistake).THE ROOMGood: looks nice and has a good comfortable bed and equipped kitchenette.Bad: Hot! Very hot! I was there in the cold winter, and the air conditioning must be on, but its very noisy! Everyone in our group had the heat issue and some slept the the window open and the Manhattan noise as a botched solution. The shower was inconsistent... A few had cold showers. Mine was cold in day 1 and good for the following 3 nights.I wouldnt stay there again.
What a disappointment! The room (8th floor) seemed nice at first. The vent fan in the bathroom did not work. There were soap dispensers in the shower that the hotel staff refill. They were empty! Luckily there was bar soap at the sink, the only soap in the room! The shower curtain was moldy at the bottom. Guess they dont wash those. There was a duvet on the bed, but no top sheet. There was only one sheet on the bed to cover the mattress. There was no hypoallergenic mattress cover so bed bugs could easily get into the mattress! The duvet had stains on it. Probably not washed either as it is down filled. My room card keys consistently did not work. Based on my experience i would reccomend avoiding this hotel.
For the last 10 years The Benjamin has been my first choice for a place to stay in New York. The rooms are spacious and clean and the bedding is really comfortable. The staff is excellent, they always go the extra mile to make my stay a great experience. Rates are not bad for New York. I highly reccommend this hotel for a high end boutique hotel without the outragous rates.
Horrible experience. Avoid reserving a room from Benjamin hotel. Save your money and book it somewhere else. They charged me $40 for minibar by mistake. I DID NOT USE IT. The receptionist did not even bothered herself to explain or makes an apology. I asked for the refund. After few days, I only got half of it. Seriously!!! I called again and the second time they did not accept to return the rest of it.
Second time staying at the Ben.Can you say 8am check-in? I couldnt believe it. In New York City of all places.I cannot get over how nice it is there, primarily the customer service friendliness, ESPECIALLY George. You know Jonah Hills character in Wolf of Wall Street? With the flamboyant hair and perfect teeth? Thats George and hes the nicest, friendliest front desk rep Ive ever seen. I wanted to go drinking with him I swear to God.I had a couple different issues, that were mainly my fault, and he went over and beyond fixing my own mistakes. He made a good stay at the hotel even better. The rest of the desk reps were equally accommodating. The concierges were also nice.My g/f is from NYC. She regularly says that most apartments in NY are smaller than even the normal rooms at The Ben, not to mention the suites. I guess I just dont get it. I did wander into a couple other rooms in manhattan and they were laughably tiny. So, if youre looking for lots of room, go to the Benjamin.
What a rude staff and awful experience. I have never met a more unfriendly staff in any other hotel Ive ever stayed. Upon arrival the man in front didnt help us with the bags, and when I tried to take the luggage courier I was informed that only staff may take it. Okay, then help me? No and he walked away. The room was incredibly messy, cracked mirrors, a public looking toilet. We found a hair-clip on the floor... they did NOT clean the hotel well. Not to mention burnt out bulbs and a faulty plug.Maybe okay for a 2 star hotel, but cmon this is 4 starsWe needed some milk for a coffee, to send it up theyd charge a 4 dollar room service fee, plus cost, plus a 17% surcharge. For a glass of milk wed be looking at about $10... outrageous.Dog friendly? As long as your dog is completely silent for the complete 24 hours in the day. Dog package? Nope, never arrived, though we paid for it.The staff did have two saving graces, Mavel one of the guest services managers and Tom at the concierge desk was a pleasure. But while they helped stop the stay from being a disaster it wasnt a fun weekend.Never mind the terrible restaurant on site.Oh, and only having free Wi-Fi in the lobby is NOT free Wi-Fi for the hotel.
Surprising - huge room, a suite more like. But with single glazed windows a mere floors above 50th street, my room was impossibly noisy. Hotel gym is not up to the level that this hotel aspires to be. And then, the surprise - $30/day Facilities Fee . How can you say anything positive about a business that sets out to rip off its customers?
We, my two children and I, really enjoyed our recent stay at The Benjamin in NYC. We booked last minute using Priceline after a thorough search of what was available in NYC. We arrived at 10:00 a.m. knowing that we would not be able to check in until 3:00 p.m. The staff at the front desk were delightful. They answered any questions we had and held our bags while we were able to enjoy the city for the day. When we arrived back at 4:00 to check in, there was a mix up with the reservation (solely on Priceline). Although we had booked a Double Deluxe Studio online when we arrived the hotel had us booked with a room that only had a king sized bed. The hotel staff explained that Priceline sometimes books rooms that they do not have but The Benjamin would provide a rollaway bed at no cost. Since that would work for the kids and I, it was not a problem. We stayed on the 9th floor overlooking Lexington and 50th. The room was very large with plenty of room for the rollaway bed (During the day we left it upright against the wall). The kitchen was small but had everything we needed. The coffee maker worked well and they had snacks/beverages for sale on a tray in the room. The bathroom was really nice with beautiful marble everywhere. I don’t know about you, but cleanliness is one thing I NEED/WANT when I stay away from home. The Benjamin was sparkling CLEAN. We dined at Dos Caminos, which is right around the block, and continued to venture out around the city at night. We felt right at home and safe as we walked the neighborhood and to and from Times Square arriving back at the hotel around 11:30 p.m. The first thing my kids said in the morning was how comfortable the beds and pillows were and how well rested they felt. I had to agree with them. The hotel gave us a $10 credit to The National restaurant which is located on the main level of the hotel so we went down and had a bite to eat. It was delicious. Although we were only staying for one night, we wanted to enjoy the city that day too and leave around 6:00 p.m. The staff at The Benjamin was more than accommodating and after we had checked out, the hotel held our luggage so we could enjoy the sites. To our surprise when we walked out on that Sunday morning there was a Street Fair on Lexington which ran about 8 blocks long. After a long day, we arrived back at the hotel and called for our car from the valet (it takes about 30 minutes so plan ahead) ($70 a day for my oversized SUV but the convenience of it was worth it to me). While we waited we were able to freshen up on the 3rd floor where the fitness center is located. It was nice to be able to wash up after walking all around Manhattan. The Doormen: Elias, Jaime and Jeremiah were all wonderful during our stay. They happily greeted us each time we entered and exited and answered any questions we might have. We had great experience at The Benjamin. Next time I will book directly thorough The Benjamin and not use Priceline.
Lovely art deco hotel, warm staff, great location. Gave this property only 3 stars due to the amount of dirt and cookies we found under the sofa-bed cushions, the stained pillow cases in the bedroom and what seemed like the 24 hour construction crew that were always present on the terrace right outside of our bedroom and living rooms windows.
Dirty floors, dirty already used bedding on sofa bed, dirty everything, room never vacuumed before or whilst we stayed, paid $50 upgrade for a room with a balcony that was about a 3 ft squared, offered a room exchange that never materialized, constantly took more money from my card without authorization, TV never worked and constantly given excuses, receptionists reply when asking about the state of the bathroom was we arent known for our bathrooms in New York but they dont advertise that. The air conditining units were so dirty if we used them wed wake up feeling horrible and ill the following day.Only positives are the doorman are friendly and helpful and the national for breakfast though expensive is worth it as the food is top draw.My advice, avoid like the plague! 4 star, Id have this as a 2 star at very best.
Of all the hotels in NYC we booked and stayed at this one and we are so glad we did.The hotel itself was beautiful plus the staff were 1st class, which made for a lovely stay. Our room was right next to the elevator too and we never heard it once.Next door is a small store and next to that a diner, both of which were used by us daily.Excellent location within Manhatten
Even though I could spend hours on our balcony despite the cold, we were naturally on the move during the day. You cannot live more centrally in The Benjamin Hotel than in Midtown Manhattan. Rockefeller Center, Fifth Avenue, or Central Park are within walking distance from the hotel.
Ive stayed at the Benjamin twice and I gotta say, Im absolutely shocked at the level of professionalism from this place. Someone called the hotel asking if I stayed there and they actually gave this person confirmation along with additional information. Never staying there again and Ill be sure to speak to the manager about it.
Turned away near midnight despite a guaranteed late check-in, walked to another, worse, nearby hotel, and told that despite the downgrade the rate is the same. I leave and find another hotel that DOESNT smell like a toilet (at 1:30 in the morning); The Benjamin charged a cancellation fee to the card used for the reservation. If you want to be treated like garbage, go ahead and make a reservation here.
This hotel treated us like we weren’t worthy of staying here the staff was rude we booked the Benjamin suite and they had us waiting 2 hours after check in time I missed a meeting dealing with them if I was you I wouldn’t wast your time if we booked the best room they have and treated us this way I can only imagine how they treat people in the cheaper rooms the manager was rude and told us if we don’t want to wait we could book another hotel in my opinion the hotel was nothing special staff was on the lower end for Survice management wasn’t equipped to run a ice cream stand let alone a hotel and when we asked why the room wasn’t ready they said I don’t know go with one of the major hotel brands in nyc you will have a much better experience they really showed how small they are and how they have no operational experience.
Bunch of crooks!!! My wife is every two days at hospital and had to cancel our family trip to NY. It was my treat to her for our 3rd anniversary. I told them in advance but no reply was provided, not even acknowledged my emails. On top of not refunding any moneys they have taken today a further 300 USD without notice nor explanation. Shame on you!

2022-06-19I just had an overwhelmingly positive experience as a guest of this hotel. The staff is among the nicest, most down to earth, friendly group of people I have engaged with in the hospitality industry. I was coming off of a rough flight, where I was majorly delayed and my luggage was lost. What a relief it was to arrive there and be greeted with smiles and exceptional service. Clifford at the front desk was so kind. He and I chatted for a while as I was checking out. The doorman, (I didnt get his name) went above and beyond to get in touch with me when there was an issue parking my rental car because silly me took the key fab with me in my purse! Rates were very reasonable for Midtown East and rooms were spacious, clean, and well stocked with anything I needed.Ill be back at The Benjamin Royal Sonesta NYC next summer when I return to the city.

2022-04-16Very nice rooms and attentive service. Up to 10 dollars for free snacks or drinks per night at lobby. Very comfortable rooms and amenities. My only concern was the cleanliness of the coffee maker in the room. Water deposit was moldy and/or unclean (no need to send photo). Location is best.

2022-06-25Loved our stay at The Benjamin and would recommend to anyone. The hotel lobby is beautiful. Our room was everything we could ask for and always kept so clean. The staff were lovely and made us feel important even though we were a couple out of hundreds they would see each week. If we were to come back to New York we would love to stay here again.

2022-01-30If you’re looking for a luxury hotel, this won’t be it. The hotel at its current state is a no frills kind of location. That said, the staff is very kind and the rooms are cozy/comfortable. This is a good place if you plan to be out and about all day and just need a place to rest your head.Note: There are little to no amenities at this hotel at this time. No bar, no restaurant, no room service, no mini bar, no water. A bit of a disappointment. Additionally, the tv has basic channels and doesn’t have any streaming or casting capabilities.

2022-05-08This was the biggest scam in the entire city! When you check In you are told you have a $100 credit/ day on bar cart since there was no bar open. Each evening that I returned to the hotel I double checked with the desk staff about this $100/night credit and they affirmed. I thought that was a large amount but since we were staying in a suite I assumed it was a customer service perk. When I checked out 3 days later I was shocked that there was a $300 minibar bill! When I called and asked they told me the credit was only $10 / night and that I clearly went over my allotment. I asked to speak to a manager since the staff told me differently. The manager assured me “her staff knows the protocol and her “staff NEVER miss lead me!” I reminded her that the staff did miss lead me every evening! Don’t ever plan on staying at this scam artist hotel again- go to the Kimberly Hotel right down the street- more honest and customer friendly.

2022-05-10Positive: My room was exceptionally nice for what I reserved. The staff were always very accommodating. The location for a tourist is about a fifteen minute walk from Broadway. Negative: No, not really. It did not have a restaurant, but there was Avery good diner two doors down where I ate breakfast every day. The food there was very good, but not extravagant, which suited me fine.

2022-04-06Amazing visit to New York and loved our stay at The Benjamin. This hotel is beautiful. We had a suite with a patio on the 24th floor. Absolutely stunning View. Clean, comfortable for myself, my husband and our teenager. Wish I would have taken photos upon our arrival. These don’t do it justice.

2022-03-23This hotel has seen better days. There are very few facilities, a gym and a food cart in the lobby. No bar or restaurant. They dont even offer coffee or water in the lobby. One elevator wasnt working so getting to and from the room was slow. For the price, I will make another choice next time.

2022-06-09I am a regular visitor to NYC and I am currently staying at this hotel, it is terrible. Please avoid it. The rooms are dirty and the whole hotel is badly in need of a refresh. Carpet in the room is absolutely filthy. The sheets were dirty (in both beds in the suite). The restaurant in the hotel is closed (so if your booking includes a breakfast, there is no breakfast). Staffs attentiveness is meh. There are no positives yet to report about this hotel.

2022-05-17Positive: Our weekend with friends was planned for the flat iron district. So location was ideal as was initial price. But that changed¿unexpectedly. I was charged for an upgrade suite while my friends were not. The hotel did not have the room I paid for availab Negative: Upon arrival, I was told that there were no single queen beds available. I had prepaid for this. We were also told we would have to wait for a room but could upgrade. The first room had no AC and was intolerable hot. We had to change rooms mid night.
