The Boil in other cities:
The bad...Tried to order via phone for delivery, they said they don’t accept orders over the phone for delivery. You would have to order in person. This defeats the purpose of delivery if I have to show up in person to order. The good... You can order via grub hub online. I order 15lbs of seafood for delivery. Was earlier than anticipated. Although my building didn’t allow the delivery person to come up to the apartment I had to meet them in the lobby. Skip the crayfish and lobster. The crayfish didn’t seem fresh. Had a fishy taste and when there was no fishy taste it had zero taste. The lobster was also not worth it, unremarkable. Loved the snow crabs and king crab legs. The best was the Dungeness crabs. So sweet and a lot of meat. The shrimp with head on is good too. They give you a half corn on the cob and some potatoes for every 2lbs of seafood ordered. That was really good. They didn’t provide any utensils with the order. If you don’t have the proper tools to eat the king crab it is difficult. Garlic bread was good.
DON’T EAT HERE IF YOU LOVE YOUR HEALTH. Food is very disgusting. I am writing this review from the bathroom. The most horrible food I ever had in my life, hopefully I don’t result in the hospital. The food is nasty, disgusting, uncooked. Just a disaster. Food poisoning that your stomach won’t settle. Petition need to be accessed on this restaurant for it to be shut down. All the 5 star review were all FRAUD.
BEST SEAFOOD IN NYC. Been coming to this location for over three years and I’ve never been disappointed!! $20 for a pound of shrimp? Can’t go wrong. Food is ALWAYS fresh, I highly recommend the garlic butter bread, southern style fried wings, Cajun fries and their garlic butter spicy boiled shrimp.
Very rude I asked the bartender if it was happy hour he tells me “you can’t take drinks out Togo anyway”. That wasn’t the question I asked him ,he didn’t even asked me if I was dining in or not. I sat down to eat they charged a 20% service fee automatically and I also had to tell the waitress not to put my Togo food on the same bill as my table food which was just sum oysters
The venue is very small in size though. It can make your wait time a bit longer. Make sure you have cash. They dont accept debit or credit cards. As far as the food, first time trying crawfish. It was a tease; very small in size, and barely no meat. I wouldnt recommend getting it. The rest of the food is amazing. The sauce down in the Crab Leg bag just makes it that much more appetizing. I would recommend The Boil over any other seafood establishment in the area. The price is worth it!
First I’ve got to say, my shrimp with garlic sauce was freaking on point !!!!CASH ONLY...We went on a Wednesday, THEY OPEN AT 5PM.This is really seafood heaven but beware don’t be ordering 3 baskets of seafood for 3 people plus 2 appetizers on top of the corn and potatoes cause that was what we did and it was way too much, we could not finish. The Cajun fries and corn were way over seasoned so it was too spicy for me eat. The fried calamari was not special either. So yeah it’s safe to say the appetizers are not worth it, no need for those. Just order your seafood, shrimp’s the best !!The service was great, our server checked up on us time and time again, and made sure everything was good for us.One concern I have is the sustainability and the eco friendliness of the restaurant. We had one usage gloves, one usage aprons; plastic bag is used to hold our seafood, and plastic bag for our trash, almost everything we were using had to be trashed. Our bill came out to around $120(not including tips), and like I said, it was way too much. Next time I come I know not to order so much again.
Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the host at the welcome reception area and immediately seated. The dining room is not that spacious. We had a great server. The Mojito drink was alot stronger than the hurricane. The Boil bag of crab legs, shrimp, potatoes and corn was delicious!!The Fried Calamari was good. The catfish was tasty.I would say I wish I had known they accept cash only. So be aware!!
Went here for a night out, the atmosphere was nice. The only problem is the tables against the wall have no space once they bring the food out, also the tables are too close to each other. On a side note if you go when its cold, just beware the isnt anywhere to put your coats, no chairs only stools. I did see a hook under the tables but who is really going to hang a coat under the table. The food was tasty the gumbo was delicious as well as the shrimp and the fried catfish and cajun fries. I will visit again in the future CASH ONLY here, they do have an atm on site.
This place is definitely not the best seafood restaurant. But the food was pretty darn tasty. I ate the leftovers cold and it was delicious! How often does that happen? The dipping sauce for the cajun fries is amazing. It should be bottled. The alcoholic beverages are filled with ice. check out the pics of my drinks....a darn shame!!!
I was meaning to grab a drink at boba guys and next door my girl and I found out the boiled at right next door, and she said she MUST go in for a bite!So we went at around 8ish and waited out 15-20 on a saturday night. The soft shell crab was okay, so are there oysters.BUT the snow crabs and the jumbo sized shrimps was just unbelievable.
Bestest seafood fix you can get in New York City!! Guaranteed!! Amazing fresh menu of goods. King crab legs. Fresh raw oysters. Brussels sprouts. Dungeness crab. Mojitos! And vermicelli to go into the bag after you eat your seafood. It soaks it up and is insane!! The outdoor seating is amazingly comfortable and cozy. Great for date night funz. Price is great for all the freshness you get. King crab legs are my go to!! Great for birthdays!! Youll come out super full and looking to book another day there~
Its not easy to find a good place in NYC that serve great seafood and after trying theBoil, Ill definitely go back for more seafood galore :D be sure to make reservations as it can get crowded during peak hours.Service here was really good and the food was fantastic. Do try the Brussel sprouts and any bag of seafood with their signature sauce!
Amazing food!! Great service! Every time we come to the boil it’s a great experience. The servers are attentive and quick. The staff overall does a fantastic job from the chefs to the bus boy to the chefs. It’s nice when the hostess remembers you and ensures you get a table promptly. One of my favorite spots. My soon to be husband loves it dearly. Recommend to everyone looking for awesome seafood and wings.
This place is official. It was my birthday and my husband surprised me with 2lbs if snow crab legs with the boil special seasoning and the spice factor was medium. This is my 5th time I think eating from here and they have yet to disappoint. Hands down best crab spot.
I really want to give this place 5 stars but I just wasnt feeling the softshell crab and it was $15. It came with fries and the fries were great but the crab it self was very greasy and had a weird tang. However this was my first time eating soft shell crab, so maybe thats how its supposed to taste? Anyway I also had the snow crab with boil special sauce and it was AMAZING. SO MUCH GARLIC🤤🤤🤤🤤. The crab was super fresh, very meaty and cooked to perfection!!!! I also had a bottled root beer and it was delicious. I was seated right away and my waitress was super sweet and very attentive so overall I had a great experience and I would definitely come back.
I love going here. The food is great. I always have to get their gumbo whenever I come here. Staff are friendly. They provide you gloves and a plastic bib so you dont get any seafood on your clothes. Its a Cash Only place, so make sure you bring cash. If you forget then they have a ATM inside.
Lets DIVE (pun intended) right in; *CASH ONLY* SO, Its not the biggest place, but you can make reservations, which is amazing. The staff is very friendly, easy-going, and rather funny! For appetizers, my girlfriend and I ordered cajun fries and an order of the shrimp cocktail. The french fries and the shrimp were seasoned to perfection with a blend of cajun flavors and old bay; sprinkle a little lemon which is provided on the side to leave your mouth watering and your taste buds craving more. While we waited for our main course, the wait staff conveniently and very politely came to us and tied crab/lobster aprons around our neck for us; also serving the table with extra napkins, crab-shell crackers, a silver bucket to place any garbage, and a pair of medical gloves to not stain our hands with a strong smell. These nice gestures all but made the waiting time feel a little bit shorter which really makes for a great overall time when you look back at it! Anyway, I ordered 1 lb of snow crab & 1 lb of the King Crab Legs with the boil special sauce and with my choosing of the spicy level taste. The Boil Special is a mix of the 3 sauces you can have for your boil, Garlic & butter, Old Bay, and lemon & pepper. I have been around the east coast eating crab/king crab and let me tell you this is sweetest, juiciest, cleanest, most color vibrant crab/king crab legs I have eaten. EVER. The cajun seasoning was beyond the beyond of amazing taste; you can single out each one of the seasonings which make for the BEST CAJUN BOIL SEASONING SAUCE I have personally tasted. We ordered two sided which were the potatos and corn which, again, were amazingly seasoned. The corn came out cut in halves, drenched in a garlic butter sauce and topped with Old Bay. The corn itself did not taste over or under cooked and popped with immense flavor in my mouth. The potatos came out cut in halves as well, topped with garlic butter and Old Bay. Sounds like a lot of garlic butter and old bay, but trust me YOU WILL JUST WANT MORE! In all, including my girlfriends order, we got 2 lbs of snow crab & 2lbs of king crab; add Two Ginger-Ales and tax and the check came out to $190. For 4 pounds of crab/king crab, two amazing sides with plenty of food, and indescribable appetizers to begin the night was TOTALLY worth it. Also, if youve read this far, I really appreciate you as a human and we both probably have a love for crab like no one else :).
Never ate a meal using my hands, gloves and a bib but there is always a first time for everything. The restaurant was compact but the food was great. I had the lobster and shrimp platter, which was well seasoned and delectable. The servers were friendly and helpful. Definitely a worthwhile experience and a must return.
Ive been wanting to go here for the last 2 years and never got around to it. Finally made it there, and OMG! Its amazing! The place is tiny and there is a wait to be seated but they food is brought out quickly! It was so worth the wait! I got the lobster and shrimp combo in the lemon butter sauce with a side of old bay sauce (which turned out to be my favorite) on the side. It was so good! I also got the catfish basket as an appetizer which came with cajun French fries and all I kept wondering was what what took me so long to go eat here! The catfish was so delicate but crunchy on the outside. Im already planning my next trip here. Of course parking sucks and its cash only, but it is definitely worth the trip there!
First of, the flavor is top notch flavorful! I usually try tossup the crawfish, but you dont want to do that here. It is flavorful and delicious! Get the crabs and lobster tail and make sure to get the sauce to go! it is that good! Expect staying for over an hour, not because of the service but because you will really be getting messy and enjoying your food here
The sauce is amazingggggg. But this time the seafood was overcooked and we told the staff they were really nice and they changed it out for us. The new batch was great but i think the shrimp they were using was just not fresh. The crawfish that came out the second time was prefect
This place was average for a boil. The gumbo is amazing and spicy. The crab season the boil is average. Typically at boils they put the sausage in the gumbo but here they are served as a side. Need a reservation and being a cash only place are flaws of this place. Also note they open at 5pm daily.
Its important to note that before going to The Boil my only experience with this style of dining was Claw Daddys and the bar was set HIGH. The menu is diverse enough with good appetizers and drinks in addition to the main course of the bagged seafood. I was glad to know that the combos could have shrimp instead of clawfish as I am not a fan of clawfish. The heat level of their special sauce (so yummy) in spicy 🌶️ had just enough heat to enjoy the food and make my nose run just a little which is fine by me.The vibe of the restaurant is chill with dim lighting and close proximity seatings which is fine but I prefer the openness of Claw Daddys. The Boil is good but wont be my first option the next time Im in the mood for Cajun styled seafood.
Really, a 4.5 star experience. 5 stars for Absolutely amazing sauce. Hands down the best boil flavors I’ve had in NYC and NJ. Fair value for money in NYC. Catfish sliders were awesome. I’d skip the Lobster roll, you can get better elsewhere for $20. Service was okay. We were there for the crab legs, shrimp and delicious sauce. Mission accomplished. Can’t wait to go back!
Went there on 6/13/20 for the first time, the one star is for the gentlemen monitoring the door. Customer service was lack, the crab legs was ok and the chicken fingers with fries...I have no words for it, you take a look and tell me what you think; the kids didnt enjoy what they tasted after much coaxing to try it nor would they continue to eat it just based on the looks of it. Hey the Boil FYI, chicken fingers are strips of chicken not a chicken cutlet or chicken patty....BIG FAIL!!! You got my $60 this time but never again.
Originally, when I tried doing a reservation, there were no seats available on their page, but if you click open table and do a reservation with your credit card as a hold, you can actually get a reservation on the same day. FYIWhen we arrived, Vax cards and IDs were required. This is the first place thats actually asked for IDs. Thumbs-up to them.Drink- Hurricane that bartender was definitely on pointAppetizer- Calamari was so so . On a scale of 1-10 Id say it was a 6 it was a bit tough to chew on.Dinner- Crab legs n Shrimp in the boil blend. This was a 10 out of 10. The sauce was everything. It was a mixture of all their sauces... lemon pepper garlic and oh Bay.... or at least thats what I tasted.1 portion is enough for two people.... its about 15-20 jumbo shrimps thats a lot.20% hospitality fee automatically addedPs: they think of everything, from gloves to toothpick to the mints on the way out
The Boil is everything all the previous reviewers said it is. The first time we came here though, there was a huge line so we ended up going to Crawdaddy around the corner instead, but came to The Boil on a separate occasion after ordering virtually the same crawfish variety. While the service and setup was excellent, we found the flavours for their special sauce (medium) rather mild. Crawdaddy on the other hand had an excellent sauce to go with their crawfish that seeped into the shellfish adding to the excellent taste. While both are excellent restaurants, sadly, I have a preference for the other instead.
Always have an amazing time at this place. The portions are extremely generous, the taste is on point and the service is EXCELLENT. Really cant think of any cons (maybe could be cheaper?? But if Im gonna spend for seafood, it would be HERE). I had the king crab combo with shrimp and we shared the catfish app; all were so so TASTY! The dining area is spacious and bright, clean and perfect. All diners were separated quite well in accordance to health guidelines. Covered outdoor dining area is available for that nice night (or day). Cant gush enough about the staff - never overbearing but always attentive. Not only will your server check on you, but other wait staff will come along every so often to make sure all is copacetic. Our server was Carmen but Erica and another nice person also came around frequently. Great place to bring a date (if that person doesnt mind getting down and dirty!). Return trips are a given - Ill just have to put in some OT and starve myself to prepare for this gastronomic event! Because its just that DAMN GOOD!
I Loved it! It was absolutely delicious. I ordered Snow crab legs with garlic butter With a side order of mac & cheese, it Exceeded my expectations.I hesitate to say but...That mac & cheese may have been the best Ive tasted in yrs Hands Down. You need Cash *only, but they provide a ATM in the restaurant, its smaller then it looks on the inside but i wasnt uncomfortable .I went on a Thursday & had a 15 min wait (not bad) theres metered parking outside but this is NYC so its a catch22 ,last but not least it was a causal dress feeling to it ,I had on a nice sweater with some jeans and a pair of flats felt very comfortable not out of place at all. Oh... but here is the Piece de La Resistance.. The Watermelon lemonade WOOOO So good & fresh try it!!.
In a vacuum, Id have nothing but great things to say about The Boil, but this is real life not a vacuum. The food is good, the flavors are there, but this place is pretty stingy. For the prices they charge, youd think my bag would come with more. When I compare it to Hot n Juicy, for an equivalent order Id pay $10-15 less, with more food.
The food was okay. Not the best. My expectations were way higher than what I got. I ordered the combo snow crab and shrimp with the boil special sauce. I thought it was going to be well seasoned but the sauce just tasted like oil. Also, while I was eating the shrimp I noticed that the shrimp wasn’t cleaned properly and still had the black string down it’s back. On the other hand, my boyfriend ordered the Cajun wings and fries and he actually enjoyed it. All in all, this seafood experience was a no for me.
The food was good. Half way through my meal a roach crawled up the wall I told the waiter they killed it snd offered me a free frozen margarita but then about 20 minutes later another roach crawled up the wall they still charged us full price for our meal and a basic apology. It was a 4/10 experience.
The lobster is sourced from New England and all the Crawfish from New Orleans. I took a couple of hours but did justice with a pound of the Crawfish with butter and garlic and the lobster! Delicious! I got the gumbo as well but it wasnt as good as the other dishes. Its cash only so be prepared. The staff is super nice and very helpful. Ive been here several times now and every time its been a delightful experience!
The food at the Boil is good, but now they give you less food now. I was surprised that now you get one row of crab legs in stead of two, one corn and around six or seven potatoes. I havent been in awhile and they had major changes. When l got my bill the gratuity was 20% add with your meal, then the taxes. Its added on like a purchase and then they tax it. Since when you pay taxes on gratuity so they had to correct my bill thats against the Law, when l brought that to their attention they had to correct that. You do not have to pay 20% and especially taxes on it the owner lost his whole mind. And less food. I went on a Saturday and we were seated right away l usually wait 40mins to an hour not that day, l guess people are weaning away from this place, the food is good, but its everything else and once again theyre blaming COVID. Give me a break.
I actually just got back from this location now. The food is amazing and the servers are sweet but the security was extremely disrespectful. (The guy with tattoos on his fore arm) My boyfriend and i were getting ready to enter and order he stood infront of us silent. My boyfriend respond we are ordering to go. Just keep in mind we got food there the day before and enjoyed it enough to go back the next day. He then lets us in and say in a rude tone go straight to the glass as if wed stray. We ordered spending well over 90 dollars and tipping. We step out to wait for our order. I asked if we could sit in the empty booth outside for our food. He said roughly again no so we stood near the entrance for around 50 minutes. He stood near us watching us. Neither of us look Menacing at all. Our food comes we call a cab and as we head towards it, he comes after us blocking a booth as if we were heading there. We noticed and met the cab on the other side. He followed us again and even said yo as if we did something. If i go back Ill be sure to call ahead and make sure he isnt working that day.
Went to the boil after craving it and since it had been a while since I’ve visited I figured why not give it a shot. Sad to say. I don’t think I’ll ever be visiting the boil again. Though the food was okay, the shrimp didn’t taste fresh to my liking, the sausage was a bit salty, the worst part of it all is the rise in their prices. Their prices have increased, there is now a 20% hospitality fee, tax and with gratuity added to the bill. A simple $50 seafood meal turned into paying $104 per person. Our bill rendered to be $175 which after my assumption was gratuity, jumped to a total of $204. Keep this in mind when thinking of visiting the boil.
I went here with my friends. We loved the food. We ordered fried calamari and each of us ordered a combo. I had lobster and shrimp and it was really good! The only downside of our visit was the service. We had to wait for quite a long time and we were not even served water right away. Servers were busy to notice us but aside from that, everything was great!
We waited 2 hours for our food and never got it. People that came in an hour after us got their food and we were still waiting. A the table next to us got food 2 times over and we were still waiting. The only things we managed to get were drinks. I do not recommend this place, they have horrible customer service. As we left the head waitress had the nerve to tell us to come back on Monday. If I could give it zero stars I would.
Oh Dear,I ordered the Gumbo and a Lobster. The Gumbo was terrible. Traditionally its served with rice and potato or pea salad. Rice I got, but not any salad. The gumbo itself was bland, no real Roux was used and the color was all wrong. The lobster was OK, the garlic butter was GREAT. I dont believe in making a business look bad for one mistake. If you want to learn how to make real gumbo, contact me, Ill help yah out.
I love this place. As a Catolina girl, who relocated to Maryland I know seafood. This is my new found gem of the city. Both times Ive been here I have not been disappointed. I even watched a gentleman working the door run a customer down to return his phone. Who does that in NYC? Great food, great customer service.......
After reading all the reviews, we decided to try it out. We had the catfish sliders for appetizers, garlic bread along with cajun fries. It was very good. We choose snow crab legs, craw fish and shrimp for the entree. The entree comes in a bag with The Boil blend. We ate up to the last drop. The food was amazing. Every thing we ordered was very delicious. The service was excellent and we were seated exactly as our reservation stated. The food came out fast as well as the drinks. We would definitely go back. A wonderful experience! :-)
My first experience eating on the premisesLast summer was delicious.I ordered take out jan 2021 and drove 5min home.the boil was cold and so was the catfish.the boil had very little flavor and very little sauce.i ordered the garlic butter and my daughter had the hot Cajun sauce.Ill stick to Claw daddys from now on.
Fresh & well seasoned seafood! And the staff were mostly nice & knowledgeable.I just did not like that they have a CASH ONLY policy, especially considering the cost of the meals and its not the most COVID conscious practice. They aslo require you to give them your full name, phone #, email & address which seems like a lot of personal information to give up for dinner.....they say its for contact tracing but most places jusy require a name & phone number or email.
After eating at multiple boils in Brooklyn and Manhattan, the food is okay. I also believe that you get less than what you pay for.The 1.5 lb of lobster is not lobster tail, it is an entire lobster which is only one tail and mostly meatless body.Personally, I think Hot & Juicy is flavored more and gives more food for the $$
This review is for BOIL on Chrystie St.The food was amazing ! The security and the buss guys were awesome to ! And so was our servant BUT he forgot to mention that he will add 20% to our bill of 4 ! 2 adults and 2 kids !Auto gratuity is when a restaurant automatically adds a gratuity charge to the bill of a party. Usually, this gratuity is equal to 18% ( he added 20 % ) of the bill and is only applied to parties of SIX or eight or more. There were 4 of us !Generally, a restaurant will print this policy on its menu to alert patrons before they receive their bill. NO ALERT NO NOTHING !I explained that to him that this is very rude and I would of course 1000% tip him and I feel like tactics like that are FU**£ super shady guys !!!!
Very pricey but very tasty and fun. Dont go if you arent ready to get your hands dirty. They prepare your seafood from a simple menu. Then throw everything in a bag (make sure to ask for sauce recommendations, Cajun is great) them they shake it up and serve the bag to you right on the table. Dont worry, they give you a bib and gloves.
I gave 3 stars only because of their prices. The food is amazing, everything on the menu taste great and the drinks are good too. But it seems that every time we go theyre raising the prices by 2 or 3 dollars more. I paid $55 dollars for 1lb of shrimp and crab legs. I think thats outrageous! I was only there last month and paid $17 for my shrimps. Theyre charging almost $28 for half the crab legs. Cant wait to see what the prices are going to look like this summer. Well be paying $40 for just a pound of shrimp with no potatoes or corn! But still a good place to eat & have drinks!
The food was decent, the crabs was okay not too bad. The potatoes in the crabs, stellar! I did not enjoy the soft shell crabs, and the lemonade was very sweet. Our waiter was cute and quirky, but there were ALOT of unnecessary dos and do nots when being seated (and this is not pertaining COVID). Cash only rule! I was expecting seasoned crabs and ended up getting a saucy crab mix with potatoes and the waiter did not really give a taste explanation beforehand. She made us use the mobile check in, which involved scanning a QR code and clicking a link for a PDF, when people next to us had paper menus (she told us that this was the only option, unessisary). I asked for a shell cracker for my crabs, and she told me she would bring it out when they finished cleaning all of them and never came back with one. It was akward speaking to her, and she was always ready to say no when we asked for something and had a full presentation as to why we cannot. We couldnt even get dessert, they took dessert off the menu :(Not looking for excellent service, especially since were forced to eat outside. But your waiters should probably work on their waiter game lol. Its like caring for hungry adult babies...
This place is the best ever, I love the staff they are very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was a bit loud but that didnt Matter because I was in seafood heaven. I had a beer to start off, had gumbo for my appetizer, first time having it so nothing to compare it to. Then I ordered a combo shrimp and crawfish delish. Cant wait to go back would definitely recommend this place😊
This is my favorite boil restaurant. I feel like I’ve had every single thing on the menu. The only real issue is the wait times and it gets pretty jam packed in there. It is also pretty loud but that kind of sets the tone for the atmosphere. I appreciate that they text you when your table is ready so you don’t have to sit and wait. The drinks are pretty good here too. Due to its high volume I’ve sometimes had to wait awhile for my waiter to come back so i just sit at the bar now.
Soooooo good! Seafood so very fresh and flavored so well! The garlic butter was so awesome. We had snow crab legs, shrimp, corn, mac and cheese and garlic bread. All tasty...the hurricane drink is the truth as well! The only downfall is that it is cash only, but as long as you are prepared for that, you are good to go! Definitely check it out, you wont be disappointed!
The seafood was good, but extremely buttery. I liked the ambiance and great courteous service. They were on point with drinks and came around asking if we needed anything. Bucket for shells was cleaned out quickly whenever full. Its a small place and it gets packed, so if you can make reservations, do so. Keep in mind that it is cash only, but they have an ATM just in case you forget.
First time to visit to the boil and I have to say customer service was great, food came fast and was it delicious. Ordered fried calamari, Cajun fries and fire, which is there ghost pepper infused garlic butter sauce, lobster and everything was great. They do not skimp on the portions and was well worth the price. I recommend getting something less spicier.
The heat lamps arent enough to keep me warm. I also wasnt told before dining that there would be a COVID surcharge on my bill. The food and spice is also bland now compared to what it used to be.The drinks taste different with every round we ordered. The whole experience was terrible and experience.
Love the seafood here. Its very flavorful. The corn and potatoes and cooked nicely as well. Only go for the Boil flavor otherwise theres no point of going. Havent tried the drinks yet. Their mac and cheese appetizer was surprisingly good. I like the soft shell crab basket and the crab cakes. Cant recommend craw fish because I like meat. I like eating things with meat and craw fish just doesnt cut it for me. I usually just get the lobster and shrimp.
I love all sorts and sizes of seafood and I am so glad I was able to finally try the boil!!!For starters we had the soft shell crab basket. It is really small so honestly its even a stretch to share with another person.. it was really delicious but Im not sure if its worth the price. The Cajun fries were delicious. They were full of flavor- each little fried potatoes!! We tried some from the basket but decided to order more!We ordered 2 lbs of shrimp (with the head) and 2 lbs of snow crab legs. We had it mixed in the boil sauce which is a bit mix of everything! Definitely must get.Everything was full of flavor and I cant wait for the next time I go back.
Really liked this place. However I would love it if they expaned their combo menu offerings. There is NO combo that includes shrimp & crab legs. If they did that Im 100% positive that it would generate a massive positive response. That being said the food is tasty, the service is great, oh! and 1 other thing the cocktails are tasty but weak (never ordering them again) I will definitely be coming back ( more often if they expand the combos) .
I fell in love with them instantly after trying their seafood boil. I had fire shrimp with the boil special and believe me it was fiiireee! The service is amazing, there’s a long wait unless you make a reservation online but it’s so worth the wait. Their raw oysters are the best, and they never disappoint. I wish I could eat there everyday.
Parking lot is small. This place is on the second floor. They steam the seafood in a plastic bag. They also give freshly popped corn. There is dough mixed into the seafood. The snow crabs were delicious. My sons loved it. There is a rice station where you get your own rice. The drinks were great. Our server was very happy and bubbly. Thoroughly enjoyed the dinner. They also give you lasting aprons and plastic gloves.
I Love this place !! We had dinner on Monday night and we left very Happy !! I highly recommend. This place Yummy seafood very tasty people that works here are very nice very reasonable price. We love ordering the combo and garlic noodles. Im coming back to bring friends and my sister .
The food was excellent. The service was great too, very attentive. The only drawbacks were that the place was cash only, which they didnt tell us until we got there. They have an ATM with a 200 dollar limit, so we had to make two withdrawals and get charged twice. Also, they told us we had a 1.5 hr limit on our seat time- when we had already been there for am hour and 15 mins! We felt blindsided and rushed. They should have told us that in the beginning. Definitely a great meal, I hope they can address those issues for future guests.
The menu is very confusing. And the waiter act like I was crazy he did not explained the menu correctly for me to understand. We thought everything was going to be mixed inside one bag and we got all the order separately. The food don’t even taste good wasn’t what I expected. I have had better lobster. The shrimp with head were really nasty don’t order the Shrimp. The prices are way too much for little bit of food that comes I seperate bag what is the purpose . Also we did not get no gloves until we asked . I would never go back to that place he ruined the experience for me. I don’t recommend that place. Go somewhere else with better food for better price . Yet So overrated. This place is an impostor of the sorthen culture definitely It is own by the Asian .
The Boil is a booming business. Small spot but big production. In the front is a bar, the back is where the seafood action is. Very interesting but delicious way of having seafood prepared and eaten. The way our group order, we had the boiled shrimp and crab in a bag experience and we also had the fish n chips. Everything was delicious. ❣👌🏾
Nice atmosphere, A bit overrated... the shrimp was overcooked. my 1st appetizer was the chicken finger basket and the chicken was basically burnt with no flavor, fries too salty they do not exchange so I had to pay for a appetizer that was not up to par and order another one. Not really authentic cajun seafood Ive had better!
Food was salty. I had catfish and fries, both salty and tasty. My group was apart of the first to arrive on a Sunday so we sat quickly. My food took a long time to come after others at my table already got their crab leg, was not as much food as I thought glad we ordered a lot. It was very pricey. The music was great, the atmosphere was fun ! Someone ordered a drink and had to send it back because the drink was tart so they added more sugar.
I had the combo c, which is the dungeness Crab and the crawfish with a mix of garlic butter and lemon pepper and it was delicious. We order a separate order of a Lobster with the same sauce because we were still a bit hungry. The service here was outstanding, everyone was attentive and glad to help. We had to wait an hour for seats, it is recommended to have a reservation before going.
Great seafood! Get here when it first opens or you’re liable to wait .... FOREVER!!!! Wait time can be up to 2 hours. Not ideal for a hungry stomach! I believe you can also make reservations but I still see people waiting anyway. Prepare to spend at least $100 for a party of two. You pay separate for damn near everything. If you can get over the long wait time and the pricey meal, it’s a great place to go and eat. Food is well worth it!
Food was good, but they only take cash and told us they have an ATM. They neglected to tell us that it was broken until after we finished eating though. Music was too loud and the connection was bad enough that it kept dropping out. Not bad, but plenty of great options in the area.
Oysters were clean tasting and delicious. Loved the crab cake. We received generous portions of cajun seasoned shrimp and Dungeness crab, but could have used a little bit more potatoes and corn in the combo. We wished we could have ordered a few additional rather than a whole side dish amount. Service has ranged from acceptable to amazing. Tables, bar, and bathroom were clean.
The only reason i gave this restaurant a one star is because of the host, she was very friendly, However my experience was awful. The server came over to us twice, the first time was to take the order. The second time was to drop the check. I visit plenty of seafood restaurants on a regular, so i think i can comment on the quality of the food. My shrimp was awful, it was a very strange texture. The calamari was okay, however the lobster roll was terrible, it was very salty and cold ((it wasnt even a roll) it was a piece of bread with bits of lobster, and the sauce was very salty ( disappointing). The prices arent terrible, however i did believe the food is not worth it.
This place takes no reservations so Id get there when they open if you could, but once you get a table its lights out.......youre getting KNOCKED OUT with the amazing flavors in their refreshing papaya salad.......the soft shell crabs and catfish OFFICIAL! Lets not get into the king crab legs with the boil sauce......just so good. They also play hip hop which is another bonus, youre in there jamming the whole time
I love seafood when it comes in a huge plastic bag, and you have to wear a bib and gloves to eat it. Their special cajun blend of spices is the most amazing combination ever, and it pairs perfectly with the seafood. It was the first time I wanted to take the remaining bag of sauce home. This place is cash only and seating is very limited, so make sure to come early or make reservations!
Stick to the lower-priced items like the shrimp and clams, you get a ton of bang for your buck. The higher quality stuff like Snow and King Crab should be eaten out of something that isnt a plastic bag. This place is a ton of fun though, and the food comes out very quickly. It all tastes great because of the sauces they drench it in. Cocktails were meh, but thats not why you come here. Wasnt too crowded when we visited, so I did not experience the crazy claustrophobic conditions that others have endured.
Its okay. Not amazing and cash only!??? Seriously, our bill was about $60... surely they can afford the 2% to just accept cards. We probably would have ordered a few drinks and spent more but...cash only. Ridiculous. We got the Crawfish & shrimp combo and it says it comes with potatoes. It came with literally 3 cut pieces of potatoes! Way too much oil/butter too. Also, they dont even have mallets for cracking shells. 🤷♂️It could easily be a 3-4 star place.
Ridiculously expensive! Didn’t think it was worth it. Seasoning wasn’t anything special. Slow service. We had made a reservation online and requested if they did anything special for birthdays. The host never acknowledge my question and the hostess proceeds to the “we don’t have any seats right now” I mean then what’s the point of a reservation? If ever you’re in the Bay Area in California, Kickin Crab or Boiling Crab have a great value & way better!
The setting is nice. The prices are ab bit over the top bc how you cant get at least 1lb snow crab legs with at least 2 sides if u gonna charge close to $36.Why doit have to take 45 min for take out just bc u ordered more than one dinner but 3 ppl behind u order tge same individually their food comes b4 yours.Food was delicious but i felt robbed a little. May visit again twice a year
The food is amazing, I go there pretty often but my biggest issue is that they intimidate their customers to tip them. Tipping isn’t mandatory, it’s a courtesy depending on the waiters customer service. There was a time I went there on a date & my date paid for our meal, the waiter came up to him & mentioned that he didn’t tip. We were still talking at the table & he intended on leaving a tip on the table when we were exiting. This was very rude & also embarrassing. They’ve done this numerous times & to many different customers. My friend once told me that her waiter told another employee to approach her & her husband about not tipping. This is very unprofessional for an establishment to do. I do not plan on going back there to eat any longer.
Update 8/21. Saw a roach and a little roach on the wall right behind me crawling. Spoke to management who said idk what to tell you , what do you want a discount. I could have been one to yell it out but no I decided to be civil and speak quietly to the manager. Since he made it seem like I was crazy, we paid our bill and left in the middle of our dinner. Thanks for the discount and dirty looks, hope you exterminate and use proper precautions.2 years ago: Amazing food. Hostess was soo nice and amazing as always, always polite and pleasant. Back to the food.... shrimp in garlic butter ohhhh myyy! Catfish is sooo delicious.
Food was okay. Did not taste as good as it did a few years ago. The crabs and cray fish and shrimps were with the special boil sauce. The cray fish didnt taste good to me however I never had other cray fish before so ... The brussel sprouts was a bit salty but the gumbo was not as much as I expected.
For a rich seafood experience, this is a great restaurant. My family and I really enjoyed the shrimp and crawfish covered in the lemon-garlic butter sauce along with a crab roll, a catfish basket, and other goodies. The service was phenomenal. The only negative note was the poor wine selection. Prepare beforehand because this is a cash-only restaurant.
If you come here with a group larger than 6, you will have separate tables and your party will have to wait for over an hour. We came here on a Friday night with no reservations and waited for 2 hours. This place is more suitable for smaller groups. However, the seafood is fresh and delicious. Get the shrimp. Skip the clams (mostly shell) My favorite sauce was the lemon pepper spicy level. Avoid their sides. Rice and noodle was soggy and bland (4$ each)
Good food but 2 big issues - 1. only when I arrived was I told its cash only. That was never stated on the website and 2. the hostess was made very sure to let us know theres a 90 min time allocation for each table. Meaning you need to order, eat and chill all in 90 mins. And BTW she gave us an update when we had 10 mins left to go!
Absolutely the freshest shrimp and crab and crawfish this side of New Orleans. Cannot be beat for perfectly cooked seafood. dont worry too much about the side dishes because youre going to eat so much you might not even get to them. :-)Clearly others have reached the same conclusion because this place doesnt even bother to offer dessert and they dont need it. Your Dungeness crab is going to be so sweet it is a dessert here.you better bring your cash because this place doesnt take credit cards although they have a ATM right in the lobby and frankly the prices are so good, especially for Manhattan and for such fresh seafood, that youre not really going to break the bank eating here anyway.but you might just break your appetite for a few days because youre going to eat a lot and just live with it and dont worry that youre going to spill a bunch thanks to that plastic lobster bib they tie around your neck, and dont worry about your greasy fingers because they give you the surgeons gloves.Just order the freshest thing on the menu, which is likely to be multiple items that come in live, and then have a ball ripping apart their shells and digging into the meat.If you take joy in devouring shellfish that is perfectly cooked and tender and sweet and beautifully seasoned, then this place will be your joy.For us its really the best weve had in years. Were going to be back again and again. Absolutely love this joint.
- Okay it was a good experience but I really honestly have a serious issue with the prices. Not because I’m black but I recently went 3/30/19 @5:30 And the food was great don’t get me wrong but the place was tiny .. and king crab legs was 45 dollars For 2 !!! Are you kidding me ? The servants were alittle upset because I didn’t tip them but I feel like they should fix the prices before I tip them .. love the candy tho 😘
OMG AF!This place is bomb! Love the whole thing, the Cajun seafood, the sauces, it’s epic! It’s definitely a good time! The only downside is it’s cash only you have to be close friends with everyone you eat with because the amount of garlic insane! Besides that sit enjoy, and chow down!
The seafood here is excellent and seasoned to perfection, but prepare to get very, very messy and to rip open your wallet. Your undersea delights will come traditional style in a plastic bag and you’ll of course have to eat with your hands. You’ll need more than one bib. Very pricey.
I’ve been coming here for a while now and really enjoyed it. My last experience there was cringe worthy. After getting there before another party they tried to sit them first till we said something. Even when seated we had to wait about 50 mins for the food. When the food finally came the snow carbs were overly salty we were not able to eat it at all which sucks after ordering for 3lb of it. We told our waiter who then got the manager, only for the manager to say oh there’s nothing he can do about it because we have been the only ones who complained about it. So after spending about $260 not being able to eat the carbs at all we still left angry and terribly dissatisfied. I will definitely not be encouraging friends to go there because if they were to meet this same treatment I would be heartbroken.
I understand that were in a pandemic and business hasnt been easy for anyone but I dont think its a good enough excuse to do shady things just to earn a few extra bucks. The tax should NOT be calculated AFTER THE TIP.(They have a mandatory 20% tip for all dine in)Even though the difference is only roughly $2, its the principle. This really just comes off as greed and Im not for it.Prior to this, the hostess came at us saying they have a 1.5hr time limit but I explained that we waited 45minutes for our food but were almost done anyways. She said she knows which is why she didnt come over earlier but she needs the table in 20 mins cause they have people waiting.Next time just ask us if were all set, dont shame us with your time limit as we waited long for our food and not like we sat there unwilling to get up.
The servers where very nice they even put on the bib for you, but the food wasn’t the best... I asked for mild yet my food was somewhat spicy. The crab legs where cold...the cups had a awful smell and very seemed unsanitary. Maybe I went at a bad time but I did not enjoy.
OMG the food is freakin amazing! I was a little put off by the cash only and shared table concept, but the food and drink quality more than makes up for it. The pricing was exceptionally good considering the A1 quality of the food. Our waitress was amazing and I couldn’t have asked for a better dining experience.
We as a group, called ahead to book a table. Overall experience felt rushed. They took our order of 3 appetizers but brought out 2. We reminded them so they noted that we were not charged for the 3rd item ...we said fine just bring it out. The food was ordered we were waiting THEN the waiter says oh sides are not included. Seriously yuh couldnt mention that at the beginning. So we added sides. Food arrived and most of it was good. After all of that the corn turned out very hard like it was undercooked. This ia my 3rd visit to this location. The first and second visits were years ago and it is possible that things changed or that my memory of it is off but I cant remember paying for sides...
The food was good however not much in the bags. I get that its the city and you dont get much especially when it comes to seafood. CASH ONLY! and expect to pay a minimum of 20 if you want some appetizers or even just a small meal. Not a bad place but didnt leave feeling full
The place is fantastic for people who like amazing food and dont mind eating with their hands. We didnt have a reservation the wait they said was about 45 min, but I think it was less. The appetizers we got were amazing I never had catfish the was so tender and the slaw on the slider made it even better. As for the main course everything tasted great we all got different combos and tried them all I loved everything. The only problem is the crab is tough to eat but well worth the work. They bring you the main course in a bag covered in the sauce and as you peel and eat you just dip it right back in the bag with the sauce and enjoy. Fair warning I like spicy but medium is spicy its a very nice heat without burning your mouth and I usually get fire to feel enough heat. So if you like seafood like crabs crawfish shrimp and lobster as well as some seafood appetizers and dont mind eating with your hands this place is worth the trip. From what I hear there is another place or Weaverly with is even bigger and my friends who have been there before said the food is exactly the same so its not hit or miss.
Coming here despite the wait is ALWAYS worth it. Its literally chow down time when my girlfriend and I are here. We barely say a word to one another because the food is the main focus! SAY YES to the boil special sauce on crab legs and shrimp & Prepare to get messy. We will be back soon!
The food is just so good and the service is really nice and pleasant also. The food is just so good, I can really rave on and on about it! I totally recommend the Crabmeat Sliders (and if you are willing to put in the work), getting Combo B, which is the Lobster (a nice size) with a pound and a half of Crawfish! This food will have you craving more, especially the sauce. I highly recommend this eatery!!! The food and service are totally worth it!!! P.S. this location only accepts cash!!!
Absolutely loved this place. Had to wait about an hour each time but its so worth it. The shrimp are outstanding and you get so much crawfish! Its always buzzing and the wine is so cheap compared to most places in NYC. I even got a free dessert as I went for my 40th. Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves seafood
Ive been here several times this year and every time the staff have been friendly and attentive and the food amazing!! Ive brought numerous friends and family with me and never once had the place let me down!! I look forward to going back soon, especially for their crawfish!!
This place is absolutely consistently AMAZINGGG! I’ve been here on numerous occasions and everytime they hit the nail on the head. The place is kind of compact, but not bothersome. They usually have an array of urban music playing, but often gets masked amongst all the chatter- For appetizers We’ve had the sliders, the Mac, the wings, and the garlic bread, which were all great. I’m a snow crab and shrimp girl so I usually get that with the boil special (spicy). My girlfriends head to the lobster and crawfish, but everyone agrees it’s amazing! The only reason I’m giving them 4 stars is because their cash only policy is annoying and Totally Inconvenient. Especially when the minimum you spend here is $100.!Updating from 4 to 5 stars because when you order online you can use your card now!!!
After receiving my food, I noticed that serveal items were missing. I ordered the King Combo. My food was missing the corn, potatoes, and the crab meat was not 2lb, instead it was more like 1.25 lbs. In addition, the Jumbo shrimp were not cleaned they still had the shrimp feces in it. The check was for $75.00 (Included Fries), and I gave a $10.00 tip, which bought the total to $85.00. For the price I paid and what I received , I was not happy.

2022-07-10Great food but cramped restaurant with long service and hidden “charges”The food was delicious! If you’re not a crawfish fan like my family, you could switch it out for shrimp in the combo bags as well.I just found the service taking way too long. I ordered garlic bread at some point in the middle of the meal, and it took them 30 minutes to prepare! The other thing I would advise against is dining in! Not only do they tack on a pretty hefty tip percentage, but they also calculate taxes based on the food costs + tips, which means you pay so much more just because you dine in. Other boil restaurants aren’t like this, so I’d advise going to a different place with roomier seating, faster service, and less dine-in fees.

2022-07-09I really enjoyed the the boil. The food was great and I think the price isn’t too bad I wish there were more options. If you mix the options it gets more expensive. The staff are great!

2021-12-08Dining in is fine, but be wary and check your food when taking your order to go. Please check your food as much as you can. We ordered 4 clusters (2 whole snow crabs), 2lbs jumbo shrimp, 2 orders of pasta, potatoes, corn, etc... Point is, it was a lot of food. The majority of the food was good, the sauce has changed over the years, but that isnt major. The 2lbs of shrimp though was rotten. It stunk and the shrimp had these large black dots (mold-like) all over them. They packed the shrimp separately and tucked it nicely under the rest of the containers. It was late, we live uptown and found parking by skin of our teeth. We decided to let it go and not drive back down. We got cheated 38$ and wanted to help keep this from happening to anyone else.Again, the food is good if youre dining there. If you are ordering to go CHECK THE FOOD BEFORE YOU LEAVE. 1 star because it looked deliberate. If food goes bad you throw it out. You dont sneak it into an order to go.

2022-01-19Very delicious place for a seafood boil. Highly recommend the fried catfish and the shrimp (head on) with garlic sauce. Definitely on the more pricier side, but still worth it for a special occasion.

2021-07-24This place has fantastic food. Their seafood is done well. Such a cute place but spacious enough to not feel claustrophobic. There’s usually a wait time before being seated but definitely worth the wait. The food is fresh, perfectly seasoned and delicious. The staff are attentive. When you in the mood for a GOOD seafood boil in nyc, grab your gloves, bib and appetite & GO HERE!

2021-10-22I was so excited to eat here with my family, and when I ordered the lady in the front told me my food will be ready in 20-25 mins. My food was ready in less than 10 minutes which was weird but I didn’t think nothing of it.-My family and I ate when we got home and within a few hours of eating we all were sick & throwing up. I fell asleep after eating and woke up out of my sleep feeling so sick, my head started to spin as I got up I felt weak and immediately started to vomit.-My assumption is the food was not properly prepared or was left out prior to me ordering and they decided to sell it to me anyways. I enjoyed eating from there but after that my family and I just can’t risk us getting ill like that again. I haven’t even ate all my food I’ll post what’s left. This was the scariest moment of my life no lie.-This have never happened to me before, I’ve never experienced eating stale food left out or food poisoning. I’m also upset of how much money was wasted due to us not even being able to eat all of the food, then it getting us sick & now having to throw it away.

2022-06-30I wish they gave us 2 nutcrackers instead of 1 to share. Everything else was great and the food was filling enough for me. Their catfish was great-- crispy on the outside and tender inside when its first brought out. Dont let it cool though.

2022-05-02For $83 order: The fries were soft, the potato did not cook through, and the only piece of corn was overlooked. the crab cake had no crab taste. Some Shrimp was rough. It would be my first and last eating there.

2022-06-29Off the hook. I love my people and my people showed up. The price is high but I’m sorry it’s worth it🥰
