The Brock in other cities:
The staff are amazing, 10/10. The activities are plentiful and creative. The amenities are above and beyond, plenty of space to get out and do work in a quiet location. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for an apartment. It is pet friendly and it has a really nice courtyard!
This place it the worst place to live. They are unprofessional and won’t give you a straight answer. They deny incentives for when you sign a lease. They will enter your apartment whenever they want. They move in roommates without telling you before hand. This is all from personal experience. They won’t let you talk to a manager or speak to corporate. They refuse to refund you money and they deny everything that someone else has said. They have been telling me that my refund has been in the mail for the past 4 months but as of today when I got off the phone they told me that it wasn’t even sent out yet and that they couldn’t give me and contact info. They straight up denied me the right to speak to their corporate office. This apartment complex is a joke and they make themselves sound amazing but is completely opposite once you are looked into a lease. Don’t lease form these people. They are only in it for the money and once they had it they don’t care how your living situation is or if you are uncomfortable
I’ve really enjoyed living here, the staff is super nice and they really get to know you, if you let them. I have a dog here and the staff always comes out of the office to give him a treat! I’ve only made one maintenance request and it was taken care of the next day! I already renewed my lease!
ATTENTION; New coming freshman, transfer students, and residence in the Brockport area DO NOT SIGN A LEASE WITH THIS COMPANY.They are completely in it for the money and will charge you for every cent they can get.I was a resident here when it was first called The College Suites at Brockport for a year and my roommates and I enjoyed our residency so much that we decided to commit to another year lease. After the suites were bought out by a new company and was renamed The Brock, our feelings for the suites completely changed.I used to enjoy living here and the previous staff was very friendly and kind. Don, the previous management, was always there to help with any questions you might have had and always had his door open. However, ever since the complex has been taken over, I feel I had been taken advantage of as a tenet.Aside from rent increasing 12% and being told the lease would only increase, it went down 10% a month after I signed.I have experienced management and janitors letting themselves into my locked apartment while I was sleeping, in the shower, and even when I wasn’t even home. These people have the freedom to walk in and out of your apartment whenever they see fit without even introducing themselves. They are incapable of scheduling anything and actually getting it done on time and they lack in keeping their tenants informed.Myself and other tenants have experience faulty appliances. In my last year at the Brock my room alone needed the refrigerator replaced 3 TIMES. We lost all of our food all three times and wasn’t reimbursed for anything we lost.I had to move everything from the floor of my apartment and leave for an entire day when they resurfaced the floors and when I called them at 5pm on that day, I was informed that they didn’t get to my room so I would have to wait another week...They walked into my apartment one day told me I was getting a new roommate in less then 24 hours. No email, no call, and barely even a warning. After those 24 hours of concern and confusion passed, I still had no roommate. I waited 3 days to finally walk down to the office only for one of the employees to not know what I was talking about and then other to tell me that they moved the girl to a different room. The manager is almost never in the office to answer questions and when she is, the door is closed and no one is to speak with her. Even the employees have to email her even if they are a wall away. Prices are never set in stone and they change almost monthly. These are only a few things that I experienced while living here but I could write a book.My point being, this apartment was supposed to be my home away from home. I used to feel like I was cared for and then it is all about the money. I’m happy to finally be free of this burden, I would advise against living at The Brock unless you would like to experience the same disrespect.
Lived here for a year back in college. Definitely light years better than most dorms, but be wary. Rooms are new and good looking, but overpriced and small. Furniture is nice-looking, but cheaply made. As people have expressed, internet is spotty and depends on your room. I always found the management to be pleasant and cheerful, though.Overall a pretty decent place to live, but if I had to do it again Id aim for one of the newer dormitories or the College Townhouses first.
If I could give a zero star review I would. I lived in the Brock for my junior and released for my senior year. The list of issues with this facility goes on for miles. For starters, The staff are extremely unhelpful. My apartment had dozens of problems including broken toilet seats, lights that didn’t work, doors that didn’t close, and horrible internet service. After weeks of reporting these issues to maintenance I gave up. To anyone considering living here I would highly recommend you look elsewhere. It’s barely an apartment, the staff treats it like a dorm and performs regular room inspections.
I will start off by saying if I could give this place 10 stars, I would lol.I just moved in to my apartment and the staff was super helpful! Its my first time living off campus, so they answered all the questions I had about my lease, monthly payments, and all of my other 100 questions. The rooms can fit a lot comfortably, but maybe thats just me as I dont need a lot of extra stuff...The apartments come fully furnished, and the monthly rent is all inclusive, no hidden fees or extra utilities that I am responsible for coming up with which is super helpful for me. This means I dont have to worry about extra bills while trying to balance school work and my job. And I dont have to worry about having a roommate like I did on campus, we all have our own private bedrooms!I am an avid PC gamer, and after reading previous reviews about WiFi, I will admit I was a little nervous. But when I plugged in my Netgear port switch directly into the ethernet jack, I havent had any issues. As far as the WiFi goes, I havent had any problems connecting my phone or laptop, and the signal is pretty strong. The office staff that they have on site deserves so much recognition for going above and beyond. When I had questions after office hours, I would still get an email back from someone working right away, like I said above and beyond.I am excited for meeting my new suite-mates, resident events, and taking advantage of all of the cool community spaces!I dont know why more people dont live here!!!!!
I have lived in these apartments for 5 years. I’ve lived here through 2 company takeovers and I’ve got to say the current company is the best one. I love that all utilities are included cause I’m lazy and only have to write one check. The new maintenance guys really get things done quick! The new staff people are a lot friendlier than the previous staff. The fire alarms are annoying, but that’s not the staffs’ fault :( The building is similar to a dorm but the bedrooms are private and theres a kitchen... with a dishwasher! Also.... SUPER GLAD THEY ARE PET FRIENDLY!!!!! I cannot live without my cat! XD
Would not recommend. I lived there last year, moved out on time and still have yet to receive my deposit money back. All my former roommates have received theirs weeks ago and I have not yet. They said they did not have an updated address so it was mailed back to sender however that is BS!!! I talked to two different girls months ago and gave them my new updated address, TWICE! Have yet to also receive the 3 call back calls they said they would be giving me!
Cheap college living, but it has its cost. We have crappy internet service. My suite does not even pick up the WiFi they promised us here. They also use really cheaply made network switches that can not even support the level of use this building warrants. During the first few weeks our ventilation system shut down and needed maintenance several times. The snow plowing here is abysmal. The parking lot is a mess and the road leading down to it is a slip and slide. It is cheaper than the dorms and it offers more privacy than campus would have but I would not recommend when there are better choices in the area.
I lived in college suites while I was attending graduate school at SUNY Brockport. I found the experience to be quite enjoyable. The staff were very professional and always available for assistance. I also felt extremely safe and secure as a resident because there was always a security guard who monitored the building at night. It was also very affordable for me.
My son and his girlfriend lived here because of the 5 month lease available. When they were given a lease to sign, they were given a 1 year lease. Unfortunately, they did not catch that and signed it. Interesting thing, when they went to turn in their keys, there were 3 people in the office dealing with the same issue. Be careful when signing your lease. Sounds like this happens more often than it should.
Furnished apartments full of the cheapest stuff you can imagine. Stiff and uncomfortable pleather couches and chairs. Thin, lumpy twin mattresses. An extra tall kitchen table with tall stools that are a pain in the butt for anyone under 62 to get in and out of - oh, and their backless so youre getting a core workout every time you sit down to eat weather you want one or not. Shower stalls so small that you cant get out of the way of the water to get lathered up. A weight room so small that 3s a crowd, and since theres only one bench, even just 2 people get in each others way more often than not. Public trash bins near the entrances that sit overflowing with garbage for days without being emptied. The list goes on and on.The one good thing I can say about the place is that the new management put a decent Roku TV in every apartment...but they didnt bother improving their network environment to handle the load of everyone streaming netflix and hulu all the time, so good luck getting any homework done with that internet connection.

2021-10-02Don’t be fooled by the looks of this place. Sure it may look nice but the appliances and the furniture are cheap. But that’s not too big of a deal. The worst part of it is the management, they will come into your room whenever without knocking. There are a lot of pointless rules that makes it feel like a dorm, just off campus. They seem very unorganized and might even put a random roommate in with you after they tell you that you won’t get one. All they care about is money.

2020-09-21The spaces both in the apartment and the common rooms are all really nice. I really like the furniture and floors, and it’s nice to have a dishwasher in the space. I’ve never had a problem with finding an open washing machine/dryer, and I really like that we can grab Amazon packages from the Hub on the second floor. The staff in the office are all really friendly and accommodating. My only complaint is that the floors/ceilings are really thin and you can hear everything happening in the apartment above you (Id suggest living on the 3rd floor).

2021-04-24The manager told me earlier this week that the $599 room rate was running out and tried to lock me into a lease, I talked to some current residents here and they ALL got the same offer a long time ago and one of my friends who just applied was given the same deal. This place employees shady sales tactics to lock you into a lease before Brockport will even allow you to move off campus. Off campus housing is better but this place tries to rip you off.

2021-04-24DO NOT GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!!! They will contact you multiple times a day until you sign a lease or block them and my friends told me they hassle you even after you move in.Find other housing in the area that wont harass you and will respect your privacy. You can find cheaper better options in the area. Dont let them convince you with flashy sales that they say are limited or will disappear. They wont. They are just using shady sales tactics. My friends that live here are currently being harassed to renew their lease and cant wait to move out and into a house. If you have any friends in Brockport get a house, way cheaper and it actually feels like youre living off campus. The Brock is a glorified dorm.

2019-12-06The management team that they have working are absolutely fantastic! Genna and Hendrick are a great tag team and they run the building amazing. The rest of the office staff is truly there for the benefit of the residents. They strive to make sure that every resident request is met and handled to the fullest of there ability. The amenities the building has to offer is great too! Pool table (my personal favorite), a ping pong table, computer room, study rooms, conference rooms, lounge rooms, 2 laundry rooms and this Amazon hub thing for packages! The event calendar that is planned every month is also very enjoyable and a good way for the residents to meet one another, and a chance to win some prizes! All in all a very happy and proud resident of The Brock for 2 years!

2020-11-15My son is a junior at SUNY Brockport. He and three friends were looking for an apartment for the 2020/21 school year. We came to look at the Brock after seeing many apartments around campus. The Brock is beautiful and the amenities are outstanding! First each apartment comes furnished with no extra costs to the students. There is free laundry and the facilities are amazing. There is a beautifully decorated game room with a fireplace, pool table, ping pong and darts. There are study rooms and a lounge with comfy chairs and a large tv. A gorgeous courtyard and a wrap around balcony. It has Amazon lockers and the shuttle from campus comes by often. Parking is free and there are plenty of spots. The move in this fall was so easy and safe and there were lots of staff around for help and assistance. There is an app to make paying rent easy and convenient and anytime my son has needed help or has questions there is someone in the office to assist him. All of this was at the same cost or lower than other private landlords were charging. As a mom it was also wonderful that each student has a separate lease so if someone needs to leave the others are not responsible for covering that cost. I can’t say enough nice things about our experiences with the Brock. I encourage anyone looking to come check it out.

2020-08-16*Be aware*For all incoming students for SUNY Brockport, please be aware of The Brock. Please do not sign a lease there. Their biggest selling point is their “all inclusiveness” yet if you want to have clean clothes, you must pay for laundry which the machines have so many issues, and you must pay monthly rent to have a pet.The prices are unbelievable and they won’t even consider the thought of lowering them. They will try to scam you into signing a renewal lease in October, before the fall semester is even half over. You are told it’s cheaper and the price will only go up however I have seen it go down in January or later on.As a recent tenant who has moved out, if you have not left your place absolutely spotless, you will be charged (outrageously), even though when you moved in, it was dirty and not nearly the condition to which you were showed when you toured. In fact, I’m still waiting for what was left of my security deposit to be returned and it’s been over a month since I moved out AND received my move-out statement which explained getting a partial refund. The new management company that has taken over, had brainwashed everyone to thinking it was “for the better” and “putting students first” however I have nothing better but only worse things to say about this place. Putting students first, to me means affordable living but that’s not this place and not will they ever consider it.There are multiple amenities they claim are there for residents to use for their own enjoyment, however they’re either broken or never setup. I wanted to play chess in the courtyard but there are missing pieces, I wanted to use their new workout mirrors on the second floor that seemed cool, but they’ve never been setup and have been installed for over a year now and I have gone to play pool before and there are only broken sticks to use.Violating fair housing laws is a specialty there. All in all, please just be aware of what you are signing up for. Especially know that you are signing up to live in a box sized room for $600+ a month and to hate your roommates and be allergic to their cat. And if you explain to the office you want to move, depending on who you are, you will be charged a $200 transfer fee.

2020-07-11They show you the unit on a tour and when you move in, it is nothing like what you first saw. also when you move out they charge you for unnecessary things, like a few tiny pieces of cat litter on the floor. Hallway carpets are not clean. Some office staff is helpful while others are not so you have to hope to talk to the right person who actually wants to help you. Many of my friends said they did not even know they signed a lease because it is so confusing and once you sign you are stuck. It sounds good on paper but when you look up other apartments, its just not worth it here. Better off paying utility bills and splitting with roomies.

2020-02-19Living in The Brock was an exact nightmare after the 1st-6months things to took a different direction with rent and personal space. I’m a disabled veteran in which was lead to believing this was ordinary apartment. Then soon after I was told it was a student housing complex it’s total chaos my healthcare deteriorated and my mental health issues got worse. The staff starting with upper Management are not trained properly and know one ever has an answer to easy questions instead they do as they see fit! At the end of this I would never recommend students or anyone looking for a piece of mind!!
