Nice little English pub. Located in a great location this is a very authentic British pub serving some English dishes and nice beers among another things. Went here for dinner and our food arrived quickly and everything tasted good. The servers and the hostess were friendly and the place had a great vibe.
Ive been looking for somewhere to have a nice British Sunday roast with yorkshire puddings and this place definitely delivered! Ive really missed them since moving back to America. The food was very good, it exceeded my expectations. The roasts are a little pricey but they do give you a lot so it felt worth it. The dining area was very pleasantly decorated and lighted very nicely. We had no wait for a table and service was very quick. They have plenty other things on the menu that I want to try so Ill definitely be back!
What an absolute treat this was to find. Easily located just off Park Ave on 29th Street, we chose to troll a few blocks from our Sunday brunch to carry on the days spirits. Once you walk through the doors, its the UK old school pub feel. Low ceilings, dim lighting and English decor down to Churchills portraits around. Great bartender (the Irish man, sorry I forgot his name😪), jovial atmosphere and perfect size venue for intimate gatherings. Food is served here but I havent tried it yet. Heard there is a treasured Rhubarb pie here too!!! Will be returning for some of that.
Genuine British pub, if a somewhat dialed up (the redcoat at the door is a little on-the-nose). The staff tend to be British and/or Irish and the food is 100% English pub, including the Yorkshire pudding, the sausages, and beans with breakfast. Cozy, spacious, and a full range of draft beers.
A fine English pub, with a fair amount of selection on tap, and enough food items to comfortably justify having dinner. Personally I would have liked to see more lagers then IPAs, but there was enough selection that everyone in my party had something satisfying to drink. The food selection was decent for both meat eaters and vegetarians as well. The staff was available, polite, but never bothered us. All in all, I would be happy to return.
We came in 2019 and had a great time and an excellent meal. Tonight was a different matter. The pub was decorated beautifully but there was no atmosphere, no Christmas tunes and it all felt very rushed. The meal quite frankly was very poor. Roast potato’s and Yorkshire pudding very over done. You could only choose 1 veg, I chose sprouts. They where like rocks, inedible. Watching what was left by other customers they couldn’t eat them either. The stuffing was sloppy and there was no Christmas pudding on the Christmas menu. A waste of money and sadly won’t be going back. Nicky Sabin UK.
We were looking for a different restaurant but ended up at The Churchill Tavern—and Im glad we did. The atmosphere was just what we wanted. It was dimly lit and cozy, perfect for my wife and me. The beer was delicious too. The highlight was probably having the bagpiper from the upstairs party come down and play for us!The food was okay but nothing special. I got the fish and chips, which was fine but I wouldnt get it again. My wife got the cheese platter. It came with crackers, but bread would have been better. If youre looking for a pub atmosphere, this is your place.
The atmosphere is unmatched. A cold beer in my hand, some football on the telly and food in front of me theres nothing better. The server bartender could have been far more attentive otherwise it would be five stars. Theres werent many people demanding things so he could have done better. Other than that I highly recommend.
Nice place but dining inside, its too dark to see ur food! They place me in d mid-corner across d bar, too dark with only a candle in a cup lit as light, nothing support d light on d table but others table light that I have to open my phone to cut my steak and pick my food. But my steak taste good!Beer price: a little higher than other bar. This bar is not for minority, though they employ one. Just an observation...
We used to visit NYC annually until the pandemic interfered with our plans in 2020. In October, 2021, we were happy to be able to go back and visit the Churchill Tavern again. We usually stay just down the street, so its a good watering hole before or after jumping on the 6 train. We were very happy to see that they survived the shutdowns. On our first visit this trip, the bartender Blahine was extra kind. Sinead, the manager (?), stopped by and noted that she recognized us as previous customers from our previous visit in 2019, which was very kind.Although we didnt eat at Churchill this trip, we do recommend it. Great traditional Sunday roast and other British pub fare. We hope to be back very soon!
If I could give this any lower, I would. Without a doubt one of the worst meals I have ever been given - so bad that we sent it back. Not a single part of the ‘roast dinner’ was roasted. The meat was greasy, the Yorkshire puddings were freezing cold in the middle, the potatoes carrots were clearly tinned and swimming in oil, and the gravy was equally vile.On top of this, we got told that someone had to go to the shop to get apple sauce as they’d run out (why tell us this??) and the waitress was beyond rude.If you’re looking for a decent roast, this is not the place.
Love it! This is a legit Brit pub with an awesome Sunday brunch! And, super cool & friendly staff especially Hailey. They have built out a very comfy outdoor seating area as well. We went all-in for the Traditional Sunday Roast and selected the roast beef w/ horseradish cream. Its a very generous 2-slice portion of tender roast beef with roast potatoes, veggies and Yorkshire pudding, with a rich gravy. It was easily enough for the two of us, but we were glad we tried the onion soup as well, it rivals the French! All around an awesome way to spend a long, Sunday afternoon. Go!
Friendly, fun, good food. This is the place you go for to catch up with your friends while strolling around town. Great atmosphere, low din of noise in the background but nice, not obnoxious. Kid friendly but kids were busy with coloring, etc and not screaming bloody murder. Food was great, staff is super accommodating. Ill definitely go back when in town!
I have lived in NYC over 2 years and only just discovered this place! I wish I did sooner. If you want an amazing, cozy pub with British home comforts this should be your go to!Right from entering the place, it is very COVID safe. Taking temperatures, contact tracing, spaced out tables, masks, sanitizer. The dark haired young girl serving us sorry I forgot her name, she was lovely. So friendly, accommodating, welcoming.Decor is so lovely and christmassy, and music is great. We had 2 extra guests and no problem! The bathrooms are so cool, they play Winston Churchill speeches. Now onto the best part. Drinks choices are great! I got Strongbow cider and blackcurrant, prosecco and a jagerbomb - delicious and standard NYC prices. But my gosh the food, WOW.We started with scotch eggs and they were so tasty, the best scotch eggs we ever had. So fresh, hot and flavorsome.I then had fish and chips with mushy peas and beans. Wow, best fish and chips Ive had in NYC! The chips dont taste like chip shop chips but they were lovely nonetheless. The fish was great and batter very nice! The beans were Heinz beans too, yum!Others in my party got burgers, beef and Guinness pot pie and curried chips - all were delicious. Oh and dessert - sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was lovely. The only improvements I could give:- Less salt on the nacho chips that come with the spinach and artichoke dip.- Less cheese on the stilton burger as its strong cheese.- Pastry of the pie could have been better, flakier etc.BUT these are minor points and I am only giving this feedback because I will be coming here all the time :) !! I give this place 5 stars and I cannot wait to come back here to try the whole menu, and the Sunday roast :)
Nice place for after office drinks. It gets packed and loud so make sure to get early if you have a 4+ party. You can also call in for reservations. Specially large beer selection on bottles, not so much on tap.Food is ok for a pub/bar style, but Id skip food altogether and just do the drinks.Second floor is nice as well, sometimes a bit empty if you get there on the earlier side.
After 7pm we got a different waitress who was horribly rude to us. She looked miserable working there and when she brought the check she took away my friends unfinished drink. When he told her about it she started arguing with us saying it was already empty and came back with an empty glass to prove her point. She did bring a replacement but without a word of an apology or even a smile.
Was there for dinner yesterday. Social distancing not observed. Was seated 1 foot from another group. Complained to server who reported this to management. As we left the said they were sorry for that condition. Hopefullly I won’t be “sorry”. The medium rare cheeseburger was well done and dry. Coffe was tepid. Not a place for me to ever visit again. RVC doesn’t lack for good places.
This little gem is home from home. Very accommodating, and a very warm welcome. We had Christmas lunch today and couldnt fault it. It was really nice to have proper food, a real break from burgers. Clean and cosy. It was decorated out for Christmas with lots of lights and beautiful wreaths. Well worth a visit
A slice of Little Britain in the heart of New York! A range of beers available on tap. Owner is a Brit and knows how to keep it on point. Very LGBT friendly and welcoming.Food available is very nice - make use of the upstairs corner which overlooks the street for a separated dining area if preferred or a more pub feel downstairs.Ordered the beef roast dinner and I can say it is delicious and brought back many memories of the UK!!Upstairs can be hired and has a separate bar.
They are so nice here. Food was good, England style dishes. It was World pride day and they were very accommodating for anything and everything. The air was not working and it was extremely warm in there, but beside that, it was a dark wood, cozy lovely place. I would highly recommend it and I would definitely go there again.
The Churchill is an excellent bar/restaurant. The owner is a former set designer and a Brit so the atmosphere really feels like an authenticate British pub.The staff is extremely friendly. Drinks and food are great and moderately priced. Make sure to order the fried artichoke!
A pretty good place to have brunch. The food is decent in terms of pricing and taste. I had a networking event, and they were very accommodating with our private event.Great theme, and the decor matches quite well. Serves artisanal cocktails that adhere to the theme. The best part are the bathrooms, which have Churchills speeches playing over!
Visited with my wife. It felt like we were back in London again. A beautifully decorated café and restaurant - gorgeous across several floors. We were here around Christmas - the decorations were just perfect, as was the background music. The food as good (especially the pasta in garlic-wine sauce) and very reasonably priced. Very friendly personnel too. Favorite restaurant in New York!
Great bar that also serves delicious food. This is a good-looking bar with nice ambiance, taking a step above a regular pub in my book. I would certainly come back here. If you get hungry, be sure to order fried artichokes, sliders and a kale salad (especially if you are on a health streak - surprisingly, it actually taste good!). Drinks are pretty good and they have a good selection of whiskeys and scotch. Also, if you want to have a sit-down meal, they do have a table section in the back, although I would get there rather early as it does get full pretty quickly. The service is not very speedy, but the food and drinks are worth it.
The only reason why I didnt give 1 star is because we went on Christmas day and I dont know if this venue usually do a roast on every other day. We had the roast and it really wasnt good at all. The chocolate mouse I had was good, I would have that again but I definitely would not have roast. My partner had an apple crumble that was as crumbly as baby food. It wasnt a crumble. I was also disappointed when the staff couldnt move us to 1 of many other available table for 2. Something Ive never experienced before from any other restaurant. It is safe to say I have had more helpful service from other restaurant staff before. The drinking area sounded like it had a great atmosphere but I had my back to the room, so Im sure it would be great for a drink but I wont be eating from there before other places.
I felt as though I was in a London gastro boozer when we visited a few days ago. A great place for a quick pint and good service from the bar tenders. The other thing reminding me of London were the expensive prices. A little too expensive for us so we only stopped for one. They have tables available both downstairs and upstairs if you want to try the food. The exterior is currently a bit obscured by building construction work outside the premises.
Cool chill bar with British/Churchill mastalgia. Stop by the bathrooms, where you get to hear Churchill giving a speech over the intercoms. The prices were very reasonable, and the fish sticks appetizer was really good. It didnt seem to crowded on a Friday night, and I prefer it that way. Plenty of TVs to watch sports on as well.
Bloody expensive, Youngs Double Chocolate x 3 UK price, draught ales, minimum x 2 UK prices. UK beer is highest taxed (including Duty) inEurope, excluding Scandinavian countries, and is imported tax free, excluding US taxes. Consequently, prices are astronomically high.
I really want to like this place - I really do, but the service really ruined our experience. During the Christmas time, the decoration is BEAUTIFUL and I was in awe the entire time. However, our waitress was the worst I have ever experienced in my life. First of all, she was very judgey on what we were ordering. Even though we told the hostess we were only there for drinks, the waitress kept asking when we were going to order food. Since we were going to stay awhile for to ring in the new year (we were there NYE), we decided to get some food anyway. When we ordered, she was very condescending/judgey as well. We read straight off the menu and ordered their chips. When we did, she went Oh you mean fries?. Yes... but arent we in a British PUB?! The waitress forgot half of our orders and never apologized when we asked several times (FYI, the bar was maybe a quarter full). We were not sure if the bar would give complimentary champagne at midnight (Ive seen many bars do this) so we asked if we could order champagne. Not only did she make us order two bottles of champagne (kept telling us it was too small a bottle), she decided not to tell us that the bar was going to prepare complimentary glasses of champagne for everyone. So here we are, with two bottles of champagne (of which we only finished one), with extra glasses of champagne. We werent the only ones who ended up buying bottles of champagne.Atmosphere of the bar is great, especially during Christmas time. The bathrooms are whimsical (there is a speaker that plays recordings of Winston Churchill). Service is TERRIBLE.
We stopped in for a drink before our dinner reservations down the street. Drinks were good but service was terrible. After we got our drink no one came by our table in 45 minutes. The waitress was sitting on her phone the entire time we were there and had to go up to the bar to ask for our bill so we wouldnt be late to dinner.
Incredible venue, incredible food, incredible staff. They remembered our names and made effort to keep checking in on us. Sinead went above and beyond to squeeze in 2 last min guests with us for xmas day. Could have stayed in the pub alllll day long, with such a warming atmosphere. If we come back to newyork again the churchill will be our first stop!!! There really is no other place to spend xmas in New York than this jewel of a place!!!! 5 stars isnt enough!!!
As a Brit in the US I loved coming here, I liked all the British decor & knick knacks. Service was good and I was pleased that they have Strongbow cider on tap, I had a couple of pints & it felt like summer.I had to have the fish and chips, it was nothing like a proper British fish & chips from a fish & chip shop, the mushy peas were watery but as pub grub it was ok, I scoffed the lot. Not sure what type of fish it was though, seemed a bit on the mushy side.
Churchill Tavern is a cool, chill bar in a location where a lot of the bars are more uppity. The crowd is always having fun but never really rowdy. The drinks are solid, although the specialty cocktails are $$.Split artichoke fries & Mac and cheese with my friend, and it was a ton of food and both extremely delicious, although I wouldnt pair the artichoke fries with truffle aioli, as it becomes very heavy and oily then.Began to frequent this bar before I left this area. The service is fast and friendlyWeird Irish history lessons in the bathroom, though, even though this is an English bar...
A lot, a lot, slot of Churchill. Even the mens restroom were playing Churchills speech. Ha-ha, my British pals love the place, very authentic British food, nice drink, friendly staff. My only complaint would be the restroom is not enough, when its busH theres a long line.
During the icy depth of the polar vortex, I heard we were meeting for lunch at the Churchill Tavern in Manhattan, I expected kitschy. However, instead of mimicking a Disneyworld replica, Churchill Tavern felt like an honest to god warm inviting English pub. I had the soup and sandwich special. The sandwich was fine, smoked turkey, brie and granny smith apple on flatbread. The soup, a simple beef vegetable, was a nicely flavored slightly spicy warm hug against the cold. Service was competent, charming complete with a UK accent. Overall, an really nice experience.
Bartender tonight wouldnt even look me in the eyes no matter how hard I tried to wave her down (I know she saw me bc she would answer the person next to me) and at one point asked my FRIEND if her drink was going on my card. -___- Tip to management: Hire respectable people. That dont have race issues🙄✋🏾
Hands down, my favorite pub in town. It feels like a home walking in - the friendliest staff and bartenders. Lovely fish n chips, and apps are fabulous. Plus, cider. Always a plus. And best of all, you can pretend youre in London, right in the heart of NoMad.Oh! Dont forget to visit the loo. Im not kidding.
The owner of this place reportedly owns 2 other pubs in the area and without knowing that, I already labeled those 3 as my favorites in the area. I wont say the names in case I am wrong about them, but I can say with certainty this place is special. A cozy bar with low ceilings, open to the street that is Winston Churchill themed. They have his speeches playing in the bathrooms at all times.
Lovely bar. Ive been going there for at least five years now. The top reason I return is the atmosphere is chill, relaxed. Definitely a homely feel. You can carry a conversation which will not be drowned out by obnoxious music, a rarity at many places. Our company had a few small events which were met with extreme accommodation and excellent service. Not surprisingly it gets crowded on Friday evenings but most other times theres plenty of space for a standing pint or table. Service has almost always been quick, never felt purposefully neglected. Place gets busy, service response time slows. It happens, but rarely.Though Im American my British friends say that it is very reminiscent of a traditional English pub given the food selection, alcohol selection, and odds n end things on the walls. If youre an expat youll be in the company of your fellow former countrymen on most occasions, especially Sundays from what Ive seen.Prices are typical of midtown. Even smaller plates are not cheap but you can see this by visiting their website and browsing the menu. Quality isnt the highest and I wish theyd offer a bit more of a selection but overall its alright. That said the devils on horseback are amazing.Theres a few TVs at the bar continuously playing sports but I cant remember if they raise more during World/Euro Cup games. In any case, go Germany!
This place is amazing. Our 6 day experience in NYC for our honeymoon ended in this place and we wished we had found it earlier. The best full english in New York so defo try it out. The bacon is the real thing. Staff was amazing , very friendly and talkative. We loved Churchill and will defo return once were back to NY.
Churchill Tavern is a pretty cool bar in an area with not enough of them. Themed as a British pub, its dimly lit, theres a lot of wood paneling, and plenty of seating. Service is friendly and mostly efficient. Youd expect a bar mocked up to be a British pub to have more British beer, but they did have a few solid options like Fullers ESB. A few other choices on tap--like Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel and Hofbraus Pilsner--are solid without even getting to the bottled beers, so maybe I shouldnt complain. On the other hand, why not bring in a cask or two?Ive been here several times and its a good watering hole overall. The one time I ate here, I got the namesake Churchill Burger. This comes with stilton cheese, sauteed onions, and fries. The burger was properly cooked (medium rare) and pretty large, the chilton cheese was nice and salty, while caramelized onions wouldve likely worked better than just sauteed (my preference). It was a great burger, and exactly what I wanted at the time. This isnt an authentic British pub, but it is a great bar in NYC. Prices are reasonable too. I havent been here for awhile, but writing this review makes me want to stop by again. That says something very good about Churchill that is line with real British pubs: theyre homey places to gather with friends and have a great time.
Very dark, and busy for The football. The sound wasnt clear so you couldbt hear commentary very well.Food not up to much, fries were burnt, burger could have used salad. Draught beers could have done with being colder. Bill was wrong, and dessert was inedible, when questioned this was rectified and 18%gratuity added to the new bill.(wasnt on the first bill) because heaven forbid they should lose their tip for poor service.
This place has potential however, unknowledgeable staff, long wait for everything and bad temperature food kinda took our smiles away 😩The food were not traditional and def can’t compare to my mama’s but what topped it all off was the desert we had browny and sticky tuffee pudding which was hard and cold and just not done right
If you miss the traditional london pub this is perfect place to be. First of all the mac and cheese is really good, but you can go for the fish and chips to keep it traditional. The fun part is going to the restroom where you can hear the Churhill speech about the war and the nazi invasion.

2022-02-09Nice British pub serving all the classics in food and beverages. They do a pub quiz every Tuesday with a $10 entry fee per head (booking required ahead). The servers are very attentive and catered to all our needs despite it being very busy.Dropping a star since there was an issue with one of our orders which was rectified and deducted from our bill.COVID vaccinations proof required upon entry to the building.

2022-07-05July 4, 2022 4:30pm. Walked in to no hostess. We went to the bar and the bartender told us to sit anywhere. She brought the menus right away. But then we sat for at least 10 minutes before a waiter came over. He was nice but couldnt explain the flavor of the mushy peas. He went to the kitchen to find out, Theyre canned. I still didnt know the flavor. We decided on Buffalo Meatballs and Fish n Chips. The food was HOT (thank you, Chef)! The meatballs were dense and tasty. My husband is a fan! My fish and chips were good but what was the green sauce? Anyway, once we got our food we were satisfied.Towards the end, as I was signing the check a guy sat a the bar. He seemed like a regular and on his shoulder sat his cute doggy.

2022-04-20Really love it at The Churchill, even if it’s a bit far from my neighborhood. It’s sometimes a little noisy (with chatter-over-music or music), but it’s got lovely snugs to have a bit more quiet if you need. Super attentive and helpful staff, great happy hour prices, and delicious food. If you’re a Brit in town on vacation, an ex pat, or an Anglophile, you’ll love it here. And kudos for the Saint George’s Society of New York pub quizzes!

2022-02-17I have been here a couple of time with my Club Rotaract. This is my club non-profit go to go bar, after every meeting, the staff is really nice, friendly and helpful, and the bar has a themed as a British pub with is kind of cool when you go to the bathroom and hear the voice of Winston Churchill. The bar is very cozy, it has two floors where each floor has a bar and bathroom, making your visit more enjoyable and comfortable. The beer menu is very good and the food is amazing I recommend ordering the French Fries, as crazy as you think this sounds, the fries are very addictive and are the best that I have eaten in a long time.I also have eaten the Cajun Chicken on Flatbread with for my surprise was It was not an ordinary flatbread, was more like a type of sandwich but still had a great taste this is a must try. The flavor is a bit spicy and inside when you bite it you will found yourself with a lot of chicken, avocado, and cheese make this, I will call it sandwich one of the best I have eating.

2021-08-14Churchill will ALWAYS hold a special place in my heart. The first bar that I’ve been going to since I moved to NYC 7 years ago. The ambiance of this place is special, not too crowded bar, nice selection of food, and lots of cocktail selections. The staff is friendly and attentive.

2022-03-18Went here for dinner on St.Paddys Day and I most definitely can say that I will be back. The atmosphere is that of a traditional British pub. Decorated with pictures of Sir Winston and HMTQ. Bar tables were not too spacious but enough for two lads and a couple of pints. Being that it was St. Paddys Day I ordered the Beef and Mushroom Guinness Pot Pie. Fantastically portioned and piping hot, the flavor was excellent with an equal amount of beef and mushrooms. The staff was great and attentive to guests. Wait time was non-existent and overall this was a great visit. The only thing lacking here was the selection of tea. As a place of authentic British food, I wouldve like to see an offer of Twinings Tea, not Lipton. Other than that, it was jolly good if I may say so myself.

2022-04-28It was the perfect place for my daughter´s 50th birthday party. The space was perfect, the food was excellent, the service was superb and they refunded the money for the people who did not come. I would have another party there for sure!

2022-07-10They had 1 waiter for about 15+ guests. I felt very bad for him. He was trying his best to keep up but was clearly overwhelmed. The food was okay. If you dont have enough wait staff, you should stop serving food and concentrate on just being a bar just for drinks.

2022-06-17Nice place, cold beer, guinness! Great fried artichokes.
