The Common in other cities:
Amazing food but my experience was totally ruined by the horrible service we had. the server/host was so rude and was rushing everyone, not only our table but everyone around too.People from other table were looking at each other in disbelief that, that’s the kind of service were were all getting. He had no patience with first time customer that had questions about the menu. One table got there bill almost thrown at them on the table and glided on the table . Yes I understand he was alone. We totally understand that part but it was just embarrassing that even other tables noticed that he had no care but to get ppl to eat fast and leave . Its really too bad because the food is high end quality, very elegant presentation.the restaurant is very clean . But because of the service that was so poor and neglected our table will never spend a dime there .
The Common is the only brunch spot in Bay Ridge that matters and one of the best spots in BK. The food is consistently good. Everything is well seasoned down to their scrambled eggs which most restaurants fail to do (I shouldn’t have to add salt and pepper to bland eggs). The cook is excellent. The skillet pancake is bomb, patatas bravas is as good as some I’ve had in Spain, truffle bun was amazing. I’ve never had something I disliked and wouldn’t order again. The waiters are ALL good. It’s a very small place and the waiters can see you from anywhere you sit. They also help out with seating and other things. If you need to get their attention it’s as easy as waving them over and they will come. As a regular, I haven’t had any issues with the waiters. They are all doing their job just fine. The food comes quick. The food is good. The order is correct. Nothing to complain about. 5 stars all day. The icing on the cake is that this place is reasonably priced and unassuming.
When I used to live in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, this was my go to place for breakfast and brunch! Alone or with friends! They always have a line/waiting list, but it is so worth the wait! The only thing I would change, even though everything is perfect from their beautifully plated dishes to their awareness of food allergies... (I am severely allergic to all milk products and some tree nuts) is the strength of their coffee. I also would recommend them to provide an animal milk alternative for coffee drinkers who may like a milk other than cow milk.My goto appetizer: Fried Cauliflower with their peanut sesame glaze! Yum!Now that I live in Princeton, NJ, whenever I am back visiting even with all the other restaurants in Brooklyn, I make a point to visit The Common! Thank you to the hard working Chefs! Miss seeing you guys every week! cheers!
This was only the second time Ive eaten here. I dont know why? The food is so good here. I started off with the sweet potato wedges, really good. For dinner I ate the waffle & chicken with a spicy maple glaze. Outstanding. Im going to make it my business to eat here more often. This is probably one of the better places to eat in the area.
This is the kind of hipster diner that your 85-year-old mother will like too: Everything tasty and fresh too! Its hard to put into words what the common gets so very right. For starters, theres nothing common about the menu. Its sorta gourmet without the fuss, hip without the funk, eclectic without the confusion of fusion. I took pictures of the menu to post because it will speak for itself, if youll take it from me that it delivers on its promise. Service is casual, but attentive. Ambience is a cross between rustic and industrial. Its coolness is muted, so comfortable. Maybe almost too muted--you might walk right past it at the corner of third avenue and 94th Street, down from the Walgreens. Dont do that. Go in. Buon appetito!
The food is good but the Indian waiter is disrespectful and rude. He shouldn’t be working with people. I miss their former waiter and waitress. I’ve been going here for a long time but after my recent experience with him, i’m thinking they are trying to save money by not training someone new. i’ve seen him be rude to other customers as well. Chef, hire someone else, don’t lose customers.
My review of this restaurant was formerly a 5.0. The food is good and the waiters have excellent customer service skills but the restaurant has some serious issues. The first is that the owner who is an excellent cook has TERRIBLE customer service skills. After my companion observed a serious issue at the restaurant and brought it to the owners attention, we were blown off as though it never happened. After my companion insisted on some satisfaction in regards, the owner begrudgingly complied without apology and then told us not to return to the restaurant. My message to the owner is that you should own up to issues with your customers experience at your establishment and be both humble and respectful when you are in the wrong. As for the issue that was brought to your attention, you had best address it because the health of your business and the employment of half a dozen people depend on it.
I tried to call in the order but the common doesn’t answer the phone at all. I decided to drive across Brooklyn to place the order since no one answered the call and It says they are open. I arrived and I can hear the phone ringing but no one answers. When I went to place the order after driving for 45 minutes to get there, they said they do not take orders in person today. I will not be back here again. Waste of time, gas and energy. Foods not worth the service and time.
My god, this place is tiny. Max 20 seats? Had to wait 20 minutes for seating. Ordered enough for 8 people, just wanted to try a few dishes. Food was good. Waffles were soggy. Should have asked for the toppings to be on the side. Overall the experience was good. Would go back to try all the other stuff. The hotdog was too salty. Salmon dish was good as well as the pulled pork.
This place really deserves its rating. The breakfast food is crafty and delicious, with unique and exciting flavors that set it apart from most typical diners. Ive been twice and really enjoyed all the dishes I had a chance to try. The breakfast potatoes are maybe the best Ive ever had. The only disappointment was the latte, which was over-flavored the first time and watered-down the second. That said, Id come back anytime to have the food.
I had one of the three grain bowls. When I say it tasted fresh and delicious, this is an understatement. The food was absolutely amazing and I will drive across Queens and Brooklyn to come back to this gem. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. Lastly, I loved the atmosphere as it was relaxing and made for a great solo breakfast trip to enjoy my tea and text my wife that she is missing out(ha).
Worth the wait, though it was a long wait time at 10am on a chilly Sunday morning. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating.I just love days when my kids randomly orders items on the menu cause these are the dishes that tend to surprise me.Surprised dishes of the day:1. Grilled Breakfast Naan - my favorite - simple toasted Naan with brie cheese, pesto, greens, ripe avocado topped with sunny egg and finished off with a drizzle of honey.2. Pancake Skillet - thick fluffy cake baked in a cast iron pan and served right out of the oven. Sweet cinnamon crumble with condensed milk was the perfect touch. Ordered this to share for the table.Other plates we ordered were just as good, need to also try their pistachio latte! Recommend this cozy spot to locals, and to those who are willing to travel for a good cup of Joe like myself.
A hidden gem in the Bay Ridge area! The food is outstanding. The menu is easy to read, a simple fare turned up a notch. Everything is made to order and it always comes pippin hot. What makes this restaurant exceptional is the amazing waitress with her warm smile, professionalism and the attention she pays to the customers and the Chef is fantastic.
I had just completed a track workout with my son and we were both hungry. I was about to bring him to a diner in Bay Ridge to order from the breakfast menu, but I wanted to try a different restaurant for a change. The Common has a separate breakfast/brunch menu and a lunch/dinner menu. When we entered, the place was warm and inviting. I was immediately impressed by the four men cooking in the open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant. The decor had a natural, woodsy feel to it. I ordered the Mediterranean Omelet. It was very well-presented with a side of arugula salad covered with a tasty house dressing. The dish was delicious. My son ordered a three-grain bowl which included pulled pork, avocado, radish, pickled onions, cilantro, and a poached egg. The three grains consisted of quinoa, brown rice, and bulgur. My son who is now a teen and doesnt talk much appeared to have a very enjoyable time eating this dish. The total bill for our meal was comparable to what we would have been charged had we had breakfast at the nearby diner. However, this place was a few notches higher in quality than a diner. The menu offered a lot of variety as well as interesting dishes. Some items that stood out were pastrami grilled cheese, mango mint iced tea, breakfast nachos, and avocado smoothies. I definitely want to return here to check out the dinner menu.
Found this little gem on Facebook. I first came here for breakfast and had the Salmon Scramble and Pistachio Latte. I came here several other times after for breakfast and everything is great! This place is really cute....a bit small, but cute. Sometimes when it is busy you might have a wait time. The waitstaff is very attentive and friendly. It seems like you get a lot for your money and the prices are extremely reasonable. I will continue to come here in the future. I definitely have to stop in and try something from the Brunch menu. 😊
One of my favorite restaurant/ brunch spot/healthy food place in Bay Ridge. Food is super clean, very tasty, you have a lot of vegetarian options and definitely dishes/plates you can’t find anywhere in the neighborhood. I go there very often and it’s never disappointing. Highly recommend!!!
Food is fabulous….. great place. Never had a problem. But……To the owner I was a little surprised not to see Ivan at the cashier such a great guy n very hospitable.Today I went to pick up my usual latte and there was a new person at the cashier. His name, Neal. I ordered my coffee was surprised to hear from him if I would have known u r paying w a card I would not have made it. I never had a problem w Ivan. I do not understand why he said that. Not good customer service. Since my son n I are regulars here…To the owner: care to explain? Is there a new rule? I can’t pay w a card? Thank u
If you live in the Bayridge area. This is the best place for breakfast. The service is outstanding. Small sitting area but the chef knows what he is doing. All around best of the best. My favorite place always. The Quinoa bowls are so filling and the skillet pancakes with cinnamon sooooo yummy. Best hot chocolate and cappuccinos.
I got the eggs Benedict and in the skillet (the grilled sausage, mushrooms, onions, potatoes, fresh spinach, herbs, baked eggs, za’atar pita), cappuccino, and pistachio latte. The pistachio latte was good that I feel like I don’t need to add any sugar on top. The place is small but the food is good. I didn’t have to wait long for the table and they clean the table right away and I was only waiting about 5 mins or so. I really like eggs Benedict. It was so good.
If you havent been here, youre missing out on a hidden little gem in Bay Ridge. Our server was the sweetest thing, tentative when necessary and never over bearing. The cappuccino was smooth and delicious and our meals were phenomenal. The menu wasnt huge but it didnt need to be. The food options were healthy with that mix of something fried with flavors and textures absolutely balanced. The lavender and honey cheesecake was light buth with distinguished flavors. The atmosphere was cozy and charming, and the techno beat playing somehow made it better for me. Ill definitely be going back to try their other foods and so should you! Absolutely loved it!
It was pretty good. I ate here twice, and the consistency varies between dishes and days. My sister, however, loves this place! They make a pretty good yogurt parfait. Staff is super friendly and you can see at least some of the food being made at the bar area. I do recommend at least trying it.
I love this place. It is one of the best breakfast restaurants Ive ever had the pleasure of eating in. Their menu is always so creative and interesting and Ive never had a bad meal there. They also have some pretty great coffee and tea to go along with the meals. I highly recommend it.
Incredible food & service. Ate a late brunch here on a whim and was WOWED by the incredible food. I had the chicken sandwich which was so amazing, crispy and juicy. The French fries were perfect. Sparkling pear soda was incredible. The server was so sweet. I will definitely be back to try everything on this menu.
Best brunch we have had in a while and brunches are one of our favorite things in the whole world. I truly recommend this place. Their food is so tasty, well presented and elegant. I love they have vegetarian options. Our server was very professional and attentive. He even spoke to us in Spanish when he realized we were Spanish speaking customers. Well be back for sure.

2022-01-16Officially one of my new favorite spots, the food was super delicious with many unique options (so I’ll definitely be back for more) and the staff was friendly. I gave the chef a compliment on my way out and he was very courteous and thankful. Had the sausage skillet, quinoa bowl with pulled pork, and we topped it off with the skillet pancake. They don’t take reservations but the wait was under 20 minutes. Highly recommend, great place 👌

2022-03-29What a delightful spot for brunch! The skillets are delicious, comes out hot and with a generous portion. They do not take reservations; my wait time was about 15 minutes. Plenty of attention to detail from their table setting to wall decor. Had takeout of their pierogi and it was delicious after a quick warm up in the microwave. Quality of service was superb, with a warm farewell from the staff as I exited the restaurant.

2022-05-10My friend and I went to the Common for brunch. It has a smaller (but nice) dining room, so we had a short wait. To be fair, we came during brunch on a Sunday. They took our number so we were able to shop nearby until a table was ready. The service was friendly, and the food was really good. In particular, I liked the potatoes, which tasted clean even though they were fried.

2022-05-30Great variety of brunch and lunch options. Foods got real rich and great flavor, not your typical standard diner food - its got some flair. Shared the smashed young potatoes, which has great toppings but wish they were hasselback potatoes. Also got myself the grilled sausage with baked eggs skillet - really nice and filling. Skillet pancakes were fluffy - tasted like a marriage between corn bread and a cinnabon. Overall a great menu, service was excellent. Place can fill up quick due to the limited amount of tables, so plan ahead.

2021-12-19Voted THE BEST pancake my husband and I ever had lol.. the skillet pancake with the condensed milk and crumbs are out of this world. The chicken mouse and pita and the skillet eggs are also delicious. Honestly everything I’ve tried there so far has been great. I keep coming back with friends to continue to try more thing on their menu. I love this hidden gem in bay ridge.

2021-07-23I gotta say I was surprised about this place. The waitress was really nice. The peanut butter smoothie was good. The Mongolian chicken was really tasty. I thought the partly was over powering. I removed it and like i said tasty and delish. The wife ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was dark meat which is a turn off to my wife but she literally ate 3/4s of it. She really enjoyed it. I would go back and would recommend. Was wished well by the staff when leaving. Nice job guys, thank you.

2022-06-10Usually very happy with them, but they shortcut on my recent order. Maybe they are out of their sweet potato sides, but I didn’t order the regular potatoes. Very disappointed today.

2022-06-19I’ve never been the type of person to leave reviews, but I feel credit should be given where it’s due. The Common is THE best restaurant in Bay Ridge. No question. I can honestly say that there hasn’t been a dish I’ve tried, that I’m not blown away by. From the truffle bun to their simple breakfast sandwich, they do it well and it is always consistent. With the small staff that they have, the service has been great. They are accommodating, friendly, and give just the right amount of attention. In an area that is flooded with restaurants, The Common, shines. It’s only downfall is that they don’t have a dinner menu. Which may be a blessing in disguise, seeing that I would probably be eating out more than I’d like.

2022-03-27We are here for the first time on a Sunday late morning right before the St Patrick’s parade rolled in. It was a little busy, the wait was just about 15 minutes.Parking takes a little time to find but there’s usually a few spots around the neighborhood.Service is attentive and quick, they took our orders and I got my delicious pistachio latte within moments. We ordered their waffles and chicken, and skillet eggs with sausage. Probably my favorite chicken waffles anywhere. Warm and spicy peppered chicken, the spices carry onto the waffles and it was just soooo good and extremely filling.I would easily come back and bring people here again and again.
