Its such a great atmosphere and so positive inside. The coffee was very good as well! I got a raspberry truffle latte and my fiancee got a cold brew. The only reason its 4 stars was the cold brew was very strongly flavored and she didnt like it very much. Overall, though, fantastic experience!!
I don’t think the DJ is capable of giving any customer less than stellar food and service. My husband and I have bought their bagged coffee for years, ever since the original owner set up shop by old Byrne Dairy. It was a nice little nook back then, but today it has become a first-rate cafe. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, not too busy although I’ve never seen the place deserted. It’s always well-staffed by friendly folks with contagious smiles. And, as a bonus, you can bet there will always be good music playing at a not-obnoxious volume.Best of all, the food and coffee are absolutely perfect. None of the national brand competitors in town come anywhere close to what you’ll eat and drink at the DJ. I usually just get coffee, but after a hectic morning I stopped in and grabbed a breakfast sandwich, a croissant donut (cronut), and a muffin with my usual dirty chai latte. Me and my toddler (who was also warmly welcomed in the cafe in spite of being an anarchobaby) proceeded to devour it all and I was stunned at how good it was. Like, I’d fight my grandma for the last bite of that sandwich. They also sell lots of locally-made items like breads (amazing) and artwork (also amazing but not edible).I can’t think of a single negative thing to say about this place. Deal with finding a parking space (which is only difficult during farmers market days) and get over there already. Treat yo’ self.
Coffee was smooth and good, amazing that they roast their own, fair trade organic beans, at the cafe! The customer service was above and beyond, and the breakfast sandwich, made with homemade local bread bacon and two eggs, with a special herb butter was amazing. Check it out!
I was just passing through this town and wanted a very quick bit. As I perused the window menu, exiting guests said - it’s all good! I walked right up to the counter to order a grilled cheese sandwich to go. I waited and waited!!! It took 35 minutes to get my sandwich. At the half hour mark, I asked how much longer. Very nice and apparently stressed workers apologized. I told them I was annoyed I wasn’t told there would be such a long wait. One of the workers said I’m sorry but we’re not allowed to say that. EXCUSE ME??? When you walk up to the counter, there’s no line, why would I ever think I would be standing around 35 minutes waiting for a sandwich. Good thing the blasted thing was delicious!!! The owner should be ashamed to deceive people -be honest!!!
Right on the main drag through the center beautiful City of Canandaigua. Cool little coffee house. Big selection of coffee, tea and smoothies. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere to hang out and enjoy your beverage. Pricing is what you would expect from a specialty coffee house...still reasonable. Had the Americano coffee as I like strong coffee. It was very good and and I highly recommend both that coffee and the shop overall!
I love this cafe! The workers there are is nice and friendly! Iv gone there many times with family and friends and even by myself to relax. Every time I come in I usually order the same thing and the workers are so nice and always ask, “the usual?” everything tastes amazing and overall is just a very cozy place :)
This place has got to have the most real and the freshest tasting coffee ive ever had. A great and inviting atmosphere that attracts locals from multiple generations, from my observations. I will recommend everyone that thinks about getting coffee from a chain and redirect them here. The prices maybe higher than those other places but you actually get coffee instead of just cream and sugar in a cup mixed in with a coffee flavored base. Keep up the good work
This is my place to visit on sunday mornings. The staff is very friendly and know what I am going to order before I order it. Always greeted by someone on the staff upon entry with a positive attitude, almost like they arent at work at all. If I had 4 thumbs they would all be up.
Good atmosphere. Very relaxing. Awesome breakfast sandwich with thick homemade bread. Coffee good.Another visit and an updated edit. Rise and shine breakfast sandwich is the best I have ever had. Cold brew nitro very good and satisfying. Andrea and Shelly (Ronnie) very nice and friendly. Very comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommend
Absolutely love this place. They offer a great selection of coffee beans, organic and freshly roasted. Everything is home-made. They have high prices but its so worth it for the quality you get. Plus I love supporting a local small business. The workers are always super friendly and knowledgeable. I always recommend people to go here.
Coffee was great and the food and options on the menu were awesome. The red eye cold brew is next level. I changed my review as being informed the plastics are derived from corn, greenware plastics. That is carbon neutral almost cool! Do you send them for specific composting though? Or general recycling? Also Id like to be offered up front a mug that gets washed in house not one I have to buy, instead of any single use items. I like the place a lot though just picky.
This place has a very nice atmosphere. The drinks are great and the staff was very friendly. A good place to go if youre looking for somewhere quieter to work that still has the coffee shop ambience. Also a good place to go to meet a friend or something, very easy to find.
This is what a local coffee shop should be, great coffee, from cold brew to spicy mocha. the staff is super friendly and the seating ranges from window seats for people watching to comfy couches for lounging. this is a great place to grab on-the-go or meet up with friends.
Scott and Andrea, the owners came out to an event that I was at and I tried their decaf coffee. Simply wonderful and tasty. No lame decaf taste. And I stopped drinking coffee over a year ago, so that says something.. I am looking forward to stopping in their shop one of these days. Thanks for providing a superb product and being so nice to go with it.
A true coffeehouse. Warm atmosphere with mellow music and lighting, original hardwood floors, a huge window looking across Main St to the park, a full menu with local items, friendly baristas, a karma board for buying someone else a coffee, high-quality beans roasted right there in the store, monthly open mic nights... my favorite place in Canandaigua.
I was so excited when Dalai Java made the move to a bigger, more welcoming location. I was not only excited for the company to grow, but I was also excited for Canandaigua. Canandaigua was lacking a cozy, local coffee shop with space for people to hang out, read, meet up, study, and just loiter in general haha and now it has one, and a great one at that! (yes, there is a Starbucks... but Id rather support local, hometown joints anytime any day).To speak to the shop - its comfortable, it has a great selection of seating options, theres friendly & welcoming staff, speedy WiFi, decent music, great hygge lighting, and thankfully, delicious coffee. There are only two things Id like to see change - longer hours (theyre closed before I get out of work almost every day! Bummer), and a super minor suggestion/request is that they clear a space for people to collect drinks that are ready. The current set-up is a little awkward when it gets busy.Besides that 5 stars, 2 thumbs up, and wishing every success for this cozy, local shop.
I frequent this Cafe a lot, not just because its close to me, but because they make a mean beverage at very fair prices. The Nutty Tina and any of the smoothies they make are my go to. If your in the area or looking to try something new, I strongly recommend trying Dalai Java.
I came here for a cup of coffee - terrible experience. The coffee itself was OK, maybe a bit overpriced, but the service was just rude. When I asked for sugar, I first got no answer and was then told to just wait a second. I really dont understand all the positive reviews here. I guess they were written by friends.

2022-06-27A fantastic coffee place! Many unique products made by local artisans. The coffee is no doubt a star, but so is their menu for breakfast or lunch. Its a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, and a delight to sip a beverage with friends, or even to relax on a day on your own. There is also seating outside and its darling!

2021-10-29The spiritual head of coffeeism, DJ has fantastic vibes, music, & artistry. The music, food & drink combinations are endless. With endlessly friendly & efficient staff, DJ has it all for the quality coffeehouse of CHOICE in the Finger Lakes Region.Good luck Finger Lakes Roasters, good luck 😉

2022-05-04TLDR; The food is fantastic, the coffee okay, and the kitchen closes at 2pm every day, which isnt said on Google. Make sure to highlight need for decaf if ordering it.My fiancée and I frequented Dalai Java when we lived closer, specifically for their breakfasts. The Breakfast Sandwich is probably my favorite in the area, and their wraps and pastries are high quality and have vegan options as well. I forgot the kitchen closed at 2pm last time I was in the area, so I was disappointed I didnt see it on Google and had my hopes up.Their coffee and lattes are okay, not my favorite, though I cant say Im a coffee expert by any means. The flavored latte espresso:syrup ratios are inconsistent, with some Ive had being way too sweet and some being just espresso. The biggest note, and why I knocked a star off, is my fiancée has received caffeinated lattes when ordering decaf on two different occasions. Fortunately for her it only means jitters/shaking and a poor night of sleep if she drinks it too quickly, but its something that can be more impactful to those that are even more caffeine sensitive. Its also pretty disappointing for my fiancée to not be able to drink her coffee, as we usually get our food/drink to go and she cant tell its caffeinated for 15mins, when were already halfway home and dont want to have to turn around.

2022-05-18Had a wide selection of coffee, with beans from different places. They had espresso, cold brew, tisans, and others. They carry a wide selection of interesting food to go with the drinks.
