I don’t know why this was named after one of the City’s worst mayors, but this building hasn’t changed in over 100 years (see the photo of a hand mirror below of the building on the far left). Whenever I went to it for city-agency meetings, it was always steaming inside, elevators were slow, and it’s just a horror to be in. The only saving grace is the views outside its windows of the Brooklyn Bridge and its proximity to subways. Other than that, all I can say is “ugh!” Maybe that’s the irony in naming it after worst-mayor-ever (S)Dinkins...🤣
Fantastic architecture and great view of the city when you at the top of the cupola! I dont know about much that goes on inside the building other than its a government offices, but the security and red tape that goes on when you need to see anyone or do anything is painfully slow.

1 Centre Street is the filming location for at least two scenes from two movies: “The Professional” (South entrance is where corrupt DEA agent Stansfield goes through to reach his office, though the revolving door may have only been used for the film) and “John Wick” (the large arch is in the background across the street from The Red Circle). Largest government building I have ever seen, even though I have not had the pleasure of seeing it in person.
I wondered what the David N Dinkins Building was used for, as at street level, you are greeted by Roman columns, which suggest the buildings importance. I thought I would research the building when I got home. The building is 580 feet tall with 40 stories. It was built in the Ancient Roman and Beaux-Arts style and was the first building in New York City to incorporate a subway station below its base; Chambers Street Station. The building also influenced other buildings, such as the Helmsley Building in Midtown Manhatten. The David N Dinkins Municipal Building has around one million square feet of interior space. There are a number of New York City public offices located in the building. These include:New York City Office of Payroll.New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission.New York City Comptroller.New York City Public Advocate.Manhatten Borough President.New York Public Service Commission.New York City Department of Finance.New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services. The Office of the City Clerk which was responsible weddings. The City Clerks Office relocated to nearby 141 Worth Street in 2009.

It is a magnificent city hall. In Japan, there is a debate about rebuilding, but since the United States has a strong desire for old things, it will cherish such things. Its already a valuable building, but another 100 years? Do you have it? Over time, cultural value will increase.

2018-03-30What an architecturally interesting building! I love the view of it from Brooklyn and as you are crossing the Brooklyn Bridge. The building was designed by the historic McKim, Mead, and White firm in 1914 and was the first to incorporate a subway station inside. The architecture is very unique and has been described as Roman Imperial, French Renaissance, and Italian Renaissance. It served as the inspiration for the Wrigley Building in Chicago. It’s currently home to over 2000 employees.
