We were greeted warmly and vax checked before entering which i loved. A warm atmosphere and comfortable seating made me like this bar - and then, the food ended up being amazing! The variety of drinks and the friendliness of the staff quickly made for an amazing night out! I highly recommend you check this place out! Ill be back!
As always... Great beer, great food, great service.....but today was special! The best grilled cheese Ive ever had.! A gem concocked by chef Anthony Leslie. Smoked Gouda & Aged Cheddar with apricot mustard on sourdough, grilled to perfection. Accompanied by the best fries in town and a tasty brew! Thanks DW!
Got the burger and fries and the burger was just ridiculously huge without warning which led to only making it so far before it just fell apart. There wasn’t much flavor either. One the fries got cold they tasted stale. My partner got the pulled pork which he liked but the coleslaw was terrible. So not really worth the price. They did have excellent mulled cider with rum though! I’ll try again with something different and hope for a better experience.
On the several occasions that I’ve been here, the food is way-above-average, gourmet pub food, the brew-on-tap offering has variety and I’ve always loved what I ordered, and the seating is comfortable and spacious. The bartenders are kind and helpful. Music not too loud, with just one TV in the corner. Some people at one table were playing cards. Really nice, chill vibes and would definitely be my local if I lived in the area.
Very warm, inviting place with food that is much, much better than one has any right to expect - in fact my entire party agreed it was the best bar food we could remember. Great hamburgers, an amazing pork stew and the best bread pudding Ive ever had (Sorry Mom!) This place is the living, beating heart of the neighborhood - weve morphed into regulars!
ONLY FRIENDS AND REGULAR GET A TABLE HERE.Great place typically, but insanely inconsistent at the time. I went with my wife a couple of weeks ago and tables inside were open we asked to sit by the window due to COVID precautions and the person said the table was reserved, which indicated that I could make a reservation. This time around I tried to go online and call to make a reservation and I was treated poorly and was told its first come first serve.... when I asked about what happened two weeks ago the person on the phone said oh... I rememebr you.... those people were my friends and I had not seen them in a year so ... I was not allowed to call to make a reservation for me and my wife. I gues ONLY friends are able to reserve a table at this place others have to wait. When I confronted him about this he was careless, stoic and unappologetic. The food here is amazing we have been coming for over 10 years but lately the demeanor of the staff leaves much to be desired. We lived in the neighborhood for 10 years.
This bar is usually pretty busy. They have a great selection of beer and cider with more porters/stouts of the high alcohol variety than most places. The kitchen has a good selection and everything has been good (bring cash). The seating is all communal, so maybe youll meet some new people.
My coworkers come here on a regular basis after work. And its a cozy spot. Not too big for large groups. Theres bar seating plus table seating on the sides. In the middle theres a huge table usually a small group sits there. So far have been here like 3 times and each time its been chill. The food is pretty good. My favorite so far has to be the wings. Man are they tasty. Also had the Mac and cheese before and that was pretty good. Beer is typical. They have happy hour specials. I would suggest getting here right after work. And bring cash.
Its definitely a nice spot to end the night, especially with the new Nitehawk theater across the street. Inside is cozy, and definitely leans more towards a communal vibe. Also, the customer service behind the bar is good, although when it gets busy just try to be in a spot in the eyeline with the bartender. My bartender, Mike was a huge help and was super friendly. He made sure everyone that came up to the bar, myself included was treated quickly and with full courtesy!
Double Windsor is my favorite neighborhood watering hole. They have an insanely awesome selection of beers that changes on a regular basis. There is communal seating, so dont be shy to make new friends. When the weather is nice they toss open the front windows to let in a nice breeze. Oh wait, and you cant forget the amazing food menu -- the mac and cheese is so delicious, and their mussels and fries are a reliable standby. It can get pretty crowded on weekend nights, but perfect for a weeknight or middle of the day drink or meal.
Im going to give this place one more try. I really have a hard time when restaurants cannot control children running around... and I am a mother. The wait staff was kind but didnt come to check to see if you needed anything. I had to go to the kitchen to ask for salt and pepper which was missing from the table. Food was average. Blandest mussels Ive had in a long time, however, the fries and a salad were great. I was here a couple years ago and it was amazing so Im going to give it one more try. Perhaps it was just a fluke...I recommend going after children go to sleep. Perhaps a late-night dinner. Right now Im going home to take an Aleve from all the screaming from children in the restaurant!
I was surprised by how mean the bartender was. You dont have to be my friend but it would have been nice to get some communication from her besides grunts. At first I thought I was imagining it but then my friend got the same treatment when she arrived. Truly a bizarre way to treat customers.Beer selection and food seemed good.
Customer service is lacking. The person tending the window was extremely rude and shows an attitude to the customers. He kept giving rude feedback to anything we asked for. Its not like we asked for banana chips on our burger, we asked for barbeque sauce and/or mushrooms, neither of which they had. We had to walk away after his 5th nasty remark. We ended up going close by to 212 burger which has way bigger variety of food and much better customer service.
Such a fun spot thats conveniently located close to the park. Great solid food for what masquerades from the front to be just another bar (but its not!). Their gin-based cocktail with orange marmalade is delicious (and was discounted with their Sunday afternoon happy hour). Macaroni and cheese was solid, but I think next time, it would be all about trying their burger (which looked amazing) or their catfish sandwich. So many options - which all looked fabulous. Cash only!
Lovely craft beer bar in Prospect Park West neighborhood. Big selections of craft beers from all over the place. It reminds me of Blind Tiger bar, but less packed. Bartenders are friendly. I will definitely visit the next time Im in the area, and try some of the food.
The best bar for craft beer in the area. Their selection of about 12 taps changes daily and patrons can get help choosing a beer by reading the detailed menu or requesting advice from the knowledgeable bartenders. Consistently good music plays overhead and very good food is available from their small kitchen. Cash only!
Fantastic rotating beer selection. As soon as a keg is kicked they swap it out for something new, so the beer lineup is unlikely to be the same for multiple visits. Staff are all friendly, and the food is great. Last time I checked it was cash only, so stop at the ATM first.
O my what an amazing bloody Mary that I was sad on this very special day. The service was very good, The staff was very courteous, And very responsive in many ways. No matter if the bar was very busy or light we still got the very same level of a service. Quality service that is. And food looked amazing, Unfortunately with the not have any lunch here today. Lastly love the decorations
Steps away from the G and F trains, The Double Windsor is a cozy pub with a crowd thirsty for great beers and cocktails. Be warned: it is strictly cash only at this stop. Beer prices are modest, and the selection is rather impressive amongst the 10+ taps pouring high quality craft beer. The food smells delightful, but was a little on the expensive side for my taste. The Double Windsor is a throwback to simpler times. Plenty of communal seating, but youll have to be quick to grab one while the bar is slammed. Theres also a decent bottle selection, definitely not the best in Brooklyn though. With its placing a stones throw from the Subway, its an excellent spot to start your weekend pub crawl through some notable Brooklyn watering holes as well!
I dont usually do bars as I am not a big drinker. However, the Double Windsor, with its AMAZING catfish sandwich, and endless choices of beers may force me to rethink that. The atmosphere was cool...nice vibe, and everyone is welcome. I mean everyone. Gay, Straight, White, Black, 7 year old, 50 year old - doesnt matter. Everyone seems to respect everyone. The place is cool. Bring cash though, they dont accept cards.Even if just for the fish sandwich, I will be back.
First and foremost, the bar and the kitchen are separate. The bar itself is shape like a backwards J which fills up the space of the place nicely. There are tables and chairs as well as a window seats on the left side behind the bar. Had the burger, Pat Lafrieda beef makes the difference. Bartender had said that they get a big parents and kids crowd early on Saturdays.
Had just had one of the most terrible bar experiences ever. Serving staff was incredibly unfriendly and condescending, didn‘t even bother to bring us fork and knife for our burger. No one is watching the sitting area, there are two persons at the bar and one in the food corner, so a homeless person came in and sat right next to us. Shouldn‘t be our job to have to interfer with him. They don‘t serve bottled water, so my pregnant wife, who does not drink sodas, had to drink chlorid water. I felt quite embarrased for bringing this joint up.
A great beer bar with good great pub food eats. I come here sometimes on the weekends after a long run for some hydration and snacks. Friendly bartenders always willing to make recommendations on beers you might like, and plenty of seating, even if you come in with a large group.
I have been to the Double Windsor a few times now, and overall I would say its a pretty nice place. When you walk in, you are welcomed by a cozy atmosphere that isnt trying to hard, although the chairs are pretty high on the rustic scale in that you may want to make sure the structural integrity is there before you put your whole weight into one of them. The seating is communal, so if you are a big group there is a decent amount of space to accomodate you. If you are by yourself, feel comfy grabbing a seat next to a stranger as the environment lends itself well to social interaction over somewhat loud music. The selection of beverages is pretty large, although in my dealings I have opted for various tasty beers. Service was adequate, as in I ordered a drink, they gave it to me, and I paid for it. I didnt need a secret handshake, if you are wondering. One time I got a glass with a crack in it, but they were happy to replace it before I wound up with a mouth full of glass shards. The food (cash only) is pretty great, from what I have had. The portions leave you feeling like you got your moneys worth, and the quality of food is high. I have tried the burger (was juicy and tasty), the catfish sandwich (very good but spicy), and the pulled pork sandwich, which had a very nice sweet tang taste that impressed. People spoke highly of it to me, and it lived up to my expectations. The fries were bountiful and were well balanced in texture. The wings were also nice and crispy with a lot of flavor that made them pretty addictive, and the farro salad was a lot better than I expected, with a very healthy portion size. All of the times I have gone have been in not quite peak times so I havent had to deal with a packed house. It has been a nice place to meet up with a few friends, but Id imagine it would also be a great place to get awkward with some strangers in an adult version of a first day of class with booze and food.
Ive only gone back to this place because I love the interior, but I could do without the clientele and as of summer 2014, the rude staff. I dont know if its because I had a beer book but I asked for suggestions and the bartender was not friendly as bartenders usually are when asking for their expertise. I planned to stay for a few but wasnt feeling it.Its nearly impossible to get a stool here on a Saturday night, and if you do, youre sitting next to unfriendly people. Great selection of beers and a burger that I hear is WONDERFUL!
A must go for anyone who loves beer, but even if you dont you will enjoy the atmosphere, fully stocked bar & delicious food selection. Im very sad they took many favorite items like Pulled Pork off the menu but seems like there is always a new favorite to order when i go, but Mac n Cheese and Fries are ordered every time!! YUMMMM now im salivating just thinking about it, guess i will be going back again very soon
The Double Windsor is a great spot for a casual hang out with friends for a few beers and bite to eat. The way they operate their food service is unique and a nice departure from the norm! Rather than order via bartender or wait staff, customers walk up to the food counter and order off of their chalkboard selection of eats and grab it when ready. Great location on the corner of Park Slope and Windsor Terrace, just a stones throw away from Prospect Park.
Was this hidden gem of a gastropub named for the snuggest necktie knot known to man? Or is it a play on the sans-sign craft bars unique location, nestled on the border of Windsor Terrace and Park Slope? Youll have plenty of fuel to ponder this and other of lifes most important questions as you enjoy a pint from one of the most robust, rare, and consistently rotated craft beer menus in all of Brooklyn. Wash down your 2-year aged Mikkeller IPA with a deep fried chicken sandwich, smothered in buttermilk dressing and pickled jalapenos, so delicious it would make even the sacrificial clucker shed a tear (that is, if zombie fowl could cry). With an entire menu culled from locally-sourced ingredients (including a Pat LaFrieda-blend grass-fed burger), a laidback, young crowd, events almost every night of the week, and a great view of Prospect Park, theres no better place to get your craft beer fix on. Only downside is the bar is cash-only, but they make up for it with 2 happy hours (12 - 4, and midnight - whenever) featuring $4 drafts!

2022-05-02LacklustreLoud AF (some good music, but some not so much). Portions of food just ok, which made it feel a bit overpriced, especially since food wasn’t great. I had the veggie stew, and it was kind of like the kitchen staff legit forgot to add seasoning. Beer was pretty good, not great. I had the Maine lunch IPA. Weird house rules - go up and order your food from one window to kitchen and drinks from bar (so you pay separately ?) and the service was slow so my stew wasn’t hot. 15 % tip even seemed generous. FWIW, I’m not really one to post critical reviews, but in a city with so many awesome eating and drinking spots, I’d give this a miss.

2022-04-17Its tough to decide what beer to get since they have an amazing selection that is constantly changing. They have the cleanest taps around. The food is top notch. I found their wings better that Pok-Pok and the Catfish (had it as a sandwich) is amazing. Great place to drink and eat as a group. Alway get the cheese curds... Always.

2022-03-29Thieves work here. Last one to leave and forgot my bag. Called in the morning and went to pick it up.. value items were missing! Tried talking to a manager. The girl I spoke with said nobody here stole it. How do you know? She didnt follow up or ask any questions! Dishonest business loses business. Will never recommend this place because of this terrible experience!

2020-12-22Some of the kindest staff around.I moved to a flat a couple house down from the double Windsor a couple months back. About three times a week I pop down, order a beer through the window and then drink it on my stoop. They have a constant rotating selection of draft beers and the staff always make me feel welcome. Due to the pandemic this has become the highlight of my days. Thank you for keeping me sane.

2020-01-01Amazing food, everyone in our party of nine LOVED their meals (salads, burgers, mussels) and the drinks were great! All for a really great price! We were so happy with our decision to wait for a table!
