The Food Emporium in other cities:
Items prices are a bit higher than normal however quality doesnt come cheap. Would like to see more items on sale. Tremendous selection and new products constantly arriving. If you are in Howard Beach then visit Food Emporium! Only issue I see is wait time at deli counter.
Find it quite ironic - not to mention now against City AND State mandates - that there are signs all over the store advising it is Mandatory to wear masks in store at all times. Yes I may hav3 see two workers wearing a mask ( although one on her chin ). Not one person behind deli and bakery counters was wearing a mask …let alone gloves.
Food emporium in Howard beach is a beautiful store. But first I find them to be overpriced! I bought a lamb cost me $85. Ridiculous. On another day I seriously had to use the bathroom. I asked two workers where’s the bathroom. The first girl didn’t speak English. She just told me no! Customer service said no too! I left everything and left. Very rude workers. Sorry this supermarket is overrated! I’ll never go in there anymore.
Been patronizing them for 2 years and spent approximately 3500 dollars . I went there one day after the gyn and had to urinate very urgently and they would not let me use the restroom. They serve hot food and drinks like a restaurant and the store is huge but I couldn’t use the restroom even being spending customer.
Be very careful at the register they always overcharge you especially for the fruits and vegetables. That didnt happened once or twice this is happening on the regular basis. Tag prices and register prices do not match and always not in your favor.Update: They are getting better at controlling the prices, it doesnt happen as often now.
Good store, very clean. Too many boxes blocking aisles , a Hazzard. Meat is very fresh, Bakery is awesome . Do not buy fruit here it is always rotten especially the bananas. They keep them in unventilated bags causing them to rot , staff is nice, English seems to be optional.. good for odds and ends, too pricy for a full food shopping.
I really like this market. Meat and seafood department very well stocked and neat. Produce however, last couple of days have been rough. The tomatoes, lemons, bell peppers, and strawberries have had some serious mold. Please clear out the spoiled food. This has been really frustrating the last few days seeing the same thing.
Finally a bakery in the community thats worth its weight the Baker in this establishment is obviously a true artist and has a gift with bread and croissants. And the Deli is especially enticing. My only issue with the deli is that you need to speak Clearly and remind The butchers How you would like your items sliced and I dont mean this to be insulting but I dont think they understand English too well. Prosciutto/mortadella in Italy is sliced paper thin. Never thick . And culatello can be either thick or thin. But these guys mistakenly cut the beautifully cured collanata (fat) off. Without It telling me. It is the sole purpose anyone eats it.Called the store to l let them know and my words fell on deaf ears. Bet you wouldnt have to say anything to butchers on Arthur ave. Educating butchers is key if you are going to claim you are an Italian deli.I will continue to return with hopes someone is watching
Worst management ever! I liked it when this was key food. Now, after this renovation, the prices are quadrupled and New Staff are rude and not professional. I went twice and each time I was charged $10.55 extra on my actual bill. It was odd that I was charged the same extra amount ($10.55) on each occasion. I believe they systemically charge extra on each customer without having them realize they are being charged extra. They are scamming people each day. I’ve also noticed a couple of flies on their cakes which was disgusting. I’m reporting what’s happening in this store to the department of health. I go to Stop and Shop now ever since and they have wayyyy cheap prices, fresher produce and meat. Stay away from this store for your health and your family’s health and your money! They are scammers!
This place is not safe. Do not go there. The employees masks arent covering their nose. There is no limit to the amount of people they let in their store. No one keeps 6 feet away. There was half eaten food left on the shelves. All registers open. People crammed in on the lines. Very very poor disease control. Plus dirty gloves everywhere.protect your families and ship elsewhere
All the good reviews on here must be fake. This store is a complete joke. On MULTIPLE occasions I have seen rotting fruits and vegetables in the store. I have accidentally bought strawberries where you cant see inside the package, only to come home to find them rotting and moldy in the center. Whenever I buy their meat, you have one day to use it or it will turn. One 3 occasions I have bought jarred items (jams and some asian sauce) when I came home I found out the seal was already popped and mold growing inside. Because of their no return policy during the pandemic I was sh*t outta luck for my money. I go to this store because I live 2 blocks away and it has been convenient. However today was the last straw. Today I went to go buy some cheese and literally the hard truffle cheese, the Manchego and another hard cheese ALLLLLL had mold on them so I called the deli manager over to see and explain what is going on as I have gone home many times to find the cheese moldy under the label. Do you know what he said to me? Oh sorry we have a new cheese guy were working on it, but you know the cheese isnt bad, just cut off the mold Granted, I know that you can just cut off the mold, but are they cutting off the price? If I pay per pound, I should expect to eat all of it. This store needs to have a serious health inspection and be shut down. I will be reporting them.
This supermarket is well stocked and they have organic fruits and vegetables. Theyre on the high side of pricing. For example, Panna Italian Spring Water, sold elsewhere for $2.19 regular pricing, this store sells it for $2.99 a bottle. Fresh coconuts sold elsewhere for $3.99, they sell them for 4.99 each. And they have lots of olive oils in plastic containers, I prefer glass bottles. I guess you can say that one should pick up the sales flyer and buy just what you need thats in the flyer, otherwise youll be paying too much. Basically its a neighborhood convenience store.
Food Emporium has been my store for a long time and to think howthey stepped up during these stressful times was so incredible and I have received a home delivery from the beginning and I have to say they had everything in stock and then some. I love shopping this store and the people that work are so sweet and so helpful from the stock persons to the checkout to the customer service they should get a round of applause from the people that live in Howard Beach because they all deserve it. they have worked long and hard hours for us without a thought about themselves.
This store consistently out of stock on commonly used items. Not related to COVID-19. I’ve gotten rotten cherries, frozen food that obviously was melted and refrozen. Sold in that condition. Today I asked for a raincheck on an advertised product and the management would not accommodate my request. The management had an MCU ATM which was recently removed to make room in the front of the store to place boxes of merchandise which is a fire hazard. The store also blocks the already narrow aisles with merchandise contributing to their safety issues as well as less space to safely social distance.Whoever’s managing this location is lacking the skill to do that.
The best butcher Ray at Food Emporium, with the best meats anywhere around! Ray has Prime Meats that just cant be beat. He makes stuffed boneless turkey , chicken and even pork chops that are out of this world. You know he even offered to deliver the meats to me if I am unable to travel. Now thats service, that just cant be beat!!!!! I now live on Long Island and I only get my meats from Ray at Food Emporium along with the baked goods too!!! Miss you Food Emporium....
Long overdue renovations include many new and attractive amenities. Although I did not try all the new options, the bakery was filled with a wide variety of cakes, pies, pastries and artisanal breads. A major upgrade that will definately benefit shoppers with contemporary options.
Terrible, just terrible. I cant even get a decent jar of pickles half the time I go there. It seems like they dont order their stock correctly. They put cans of chicken noodle soup on the very bottom shelf where nobody can see it. Chopmeat? Forget it. Its always one day from expiration every time I shop there. Sanitary conditions are an absolute atrocity. I could go on with about a dozen more complaints but I wont even bother. They threw all their union workers out on the street like a bunch of dogs. Do not shop here, take your business elsewhere. I hope they go out of business and this nieghborhood gets a decent store.
I have been going to this market for 4 years now and its not that good, first of all, the staff dont look happy and they are lazy, and it looks like there is no janitor at all to clean anything, when i come in here sometimes i smell something bad in here. I always find flies on top of the cake and people that I know have said that their food made them get sick of tummy issues of the meat that they sell that was pre cooked. I liked it better when it was keyfood because they made it a lot smaller with how much you can buy because they stripped out A LOT of isles so there is a lot less to choose from. I would rather have keyfood from 2017 then 2020 keyfood.
Absolutely the choice of last resort. I understand Waldbaums is closing and being replaced by Key Foods. Dont know if it will be an improvement. But if youre not gonna be clean, at least have variety and decent prices. I rent cars on the weekend just to go grocery shopping even if this store is just a couple of blocks away.
Key food bought this location from Waldbaums. I had hoped they would improve on everything that was wrong with Waldbaums. Instead, it is worse. They have been open under renovations for a long time (too long). The aisles are not labeled, making quick trips LONG trips as you search for what you need. I have gotten bad meat 4 times. Today, it was a Perdue oven roaster whole chicken. When I opened the package the chicken had been partially cooked! Can you say PROBLEMS WITH REFRIGERATION AND FOOD POISONING?? When I went to return it, the girl looked at me oddly and asked if I wanted to return it. No, I came back to thank you for helping me cook dinner. Of course I want to return it! Never again. I refuse to give my money to a store that poses a health risk. My concern is for the elderly people in the area who cannot travel for options and may become ill eating spoiled food that their sense of sight and smell may not be sharp enough to detect. KEYFOOD CLOSE UP SHOP FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, DO YOUR RENOVATIONS AND OPEN UP UNDER SAFE CONDITIONS. STOP BEING CHEAP TRYING TO SAVE MONEY AT THE RISK OF YOUR CUSTOMERS HEALTH!!!
Just left from here a few minutes ago and I must say I am rather disappointed. I was standing online awaiting to be acknowledged by the clerk and shes just standing there with who seemed to be a member of management chatting away and failing to tell me why she was not ringing me up. I understand that maybe she was awaiting someone to return or waiting for cash (I still dont know because she never explained) but at least you could acknowledge a paying customer and have the decency to be courteous but thats a trait long lost to the human race. When I asked her if she was waiting for something she responded with an attitude saying Im not just standing here doing nothing. And another clerk even came and asked if another isle was open (which I didnt know because no one is explaining anything) and she sarcastically said, as if we were dumb, that we didnt want to move on over to the next isle. Behavior like this explains why working in a market is all these people will ever amount to. They would never be able to hold a career that demands dignity. I will never return here and put my hard earned money in this store. Disrespectful people who probably didnt acknowledge me because I was young and because of the color of my skin. Bless you all for your ignorance
Don’t come to this store they will scam you!! They stole someone’ EBT money when I was there and police had to come!!!they are going to rip you off, they are money hungry and will they will find a way to steal your money. Be aware!! Don’t support this business!! They sell bad expired products!! Go and check yourself the mosquitoes and flies that are sitting on their bakery!!!
This store is not stocked as well as the Crossbay Blvd store. Their slection of food items is limited and always have no milk gallons available. Checking out could be faster if the cashiers would stop having conversations with people as they check them out at the register.
In the beginning of change over from Waldbaums to key foods the customer service was upbeat. Didn’t take long for that to expire. The Friday night manager sucks. Today , 02/15/2919. @ 6:20 pm he knows who he is. It took repeated offended encounters to write this review. He Takes delight, in my openion, in humiliating customers who use the recycle machines. Several times when the machine was full or for other reason comes to a stop and needed intervention and he was reached out to he dragged his feet in getting assistance. He wouldn’t pick up the inter com and summon someone. On all occasions he either walked away or walked to the courtesy counter and engaged the staff. Tonight I did hear him shouted out to someone but don’t know the relevance it had to do with my assistance. 15 mins lapsed and I walked up to courtesy myself and asked the girl at that station if someone was helping me and she said that she didn’t know. At that point no one took the initiative of intervening in any way whatsoever. No one came to look at the recycle machine to assess the dialogue that presented or made an announcement to summon an attendant. I continued to stand there for another 5 mins and after much humiliation without any communication or follow up from anyone I left. Good luck to this entity with this quality manager.
Well I like this supermarket even tho they are expensive but today my mother visited this supermarket she was called crazy lady in Spanish I’ll translate pinche vieja loca . My mom didn’t tell me until we left . So now this supermarket don’t treat their customers with respect my mom suffer from a disorder . She was so upset b it . Now I’m disappointed this supermarket needs better workers.
THIS EMPLOYER IS UNFAIR!!This Key Food is discriminating against the former Waldbaums employees who served you and your neighbors for years.AndKey Food refused employment to former Waldbaums employees in this meat department because of their seniority, and rates of pay that the former Waldbaums employees have earned over decades of work. Please Do Not Shop at this Key Food until the discrimination and unfair treatment stops!! The workers in the meat department in this store need the support of the Howard Beach community.PleasePlease go to Stop & Shop instead, and say NO to unfair treatment and discrimination!!#DONTSHOPKEYFOOD #UFCW342 #SupportOurMembers

2022-06-05If you ever want a sandwich from here youre better off purchasing your cold cuts. Getting the bread from their bakery. Then going home and making your own sandwich.I went there earlier and ordered turkey with provolone on a hero. The older gentleman (with the red hat) in the deli section told me that if I used the hero bread from their bakery they would have to charge me 20 dollars for the sandwich.I literally thought there was a hidden camera somewhere because there is no way this guy just told me something that ridiculous with a straight face. Nonetheless Ill never order a sandwich from this place again! #weirdos #youcantmakethisstuffup

2022-03-22Store is big clean and assorted. I normally do t post but once in a while you come across a great product that I will write a review . I seen this product in the supermarkets must be a new brand of Italian sauce . Anyhow I shop at food emporium and came across it as it looks great. I use jarred sauce but this Aunt Diana’s Pasta Sauce is simony the best. I yea ek to Italy and this is right out of Italy. You could not know the difference. I tried Raos it’s ok but Aunt Diana’s Pasta Sauce is very very good. You can see the authentic smell of the sauce fresh basil and spices sitting in the jar. A great price for a premium sauce. Seen it at other stores off promotion at 6.99 or higher price but food emporium had it on sale for 5.19 . Got to try it you will never try another jarred sauce

2022-03-20I have to say a Must Buy- Aunt Dianas Adriatic Infusion Pasta sauce. The best jarred sauced on the market. I purchase Aunt Ds a week or so ago- Amazing signature premium sauce. Keyfood had it on sale for $ 5.19not on sale over 7.00 On promo now. Perfect seasoning with herbs and spices, texture and flavorful . when I opened the jar you can smell the freshness and whole basil leaves permeating. Better than any jarred premium sauce in the Market. Raos is nothing compared to this.

2022-01-13I think it is a very well organised and convenient place. There is always room for improvement. My desire is to improve a bread choose section. I really would appreciate if “Pepperdine farm Jewish RYE soft” is included

2021-09-21The best place to cater food/desert from for any party. They have lots of options to chose from that are fairly priced & delicious! The portions of food are great as well. I just catered from here for my sons 1st birthday & everything was perfect! The food, the cake, the service/delivery, everything! My family was raving about the Napoleon cake & everyone wanted a peice to take home lol. It was beautifully decorated as well. To the deli & bakery management, thank you so much for doing such a great job & for being so kind as well.

2021-07-05Its a pretty good Supermarket with a great variety of food selections.....it would get 5 Stars but I dislike the practice of All Cashiers who Swipes the Stores Rewards Card after they swipe all of your Groceries. The Store is building up Rewards Points on a Card that someone else could use as a result of money I spent....I dislike the practice. If they dont stop the Practice, I would file a Complaint with the B.B.B.

2021-09-19I requested delivery of groceries I myself collected paid at 3:11pm on 9/18/2021 but was delivered after 7pm, 4 hours after !!! Now I am afraid that all these food that I got from the Deli plus juice/milk that need refrigeration will make me sick. Before I collected my groceries I asked about the delivery and there was no mention of a problem. I am hoping I wont waste all these food, I spent $249.16 for this grocery.I made 3 phone calls before it was finally delivered.
