I have brought my bikes to Freewheel twice now and both times have had an excellent experience. One time was for a tube replacement - which luckily I brought it in as there were some other underlying issues with my my bike that they identified and fixed. The second time was for a shifter repair - which turned out I needed a new freehweel. Luckily, they had one in stock and were able to complete the repair while I waited (30 minutes at most). Each time I was impressed with the responsiveness and knowledge of the staff. The quality of work is excellent and they are very reasonably priced.
Matt was flexible, punctual and professional. Him and the guy I brought two bikes to had them in tip top shape within a day. They were reasonably priced and the service was great! Got them both out again this spring and both bikes are still in tip top shape and working perfectly!Highly recommend his service! Especially if you want to salvage a bike you already have instead of having to buy new.
Matt helped me out big time. I just got a new to me used road bike and needed some help with it (Ive never owned anything more than a beach cruiser or $100 basic bike, so a road bike was very new to me). He told me to swing by and hed take a look.He gave me some pointers with riding it and helped me out w/ a handlebar extender that I needed. Did it all in the shop while I was there day of. Will definitely go to him and his crew for my bike needs from now on. Really awesome guys who do great work. Thanks again Matt!
Brought my mountain bike in for a tune up and some hydraulic brake work. Matt was able to explain the problem with my brakes, gave me a few options, and was able to get the parts I needed for less than I couldve gotten them myself. He kept me in the loop the whole time and was quick to respond to any questions I had. Very knowledgeable and customer service is a top priority, which is a nice change of pace from other bike shops Ive tried in the area. Ill be going back for future service and tune ups and Ill definitely be recommending him to anyone who needs bike work.
Lets see! Quick response. Very knowledgeable. Prices VERY reasonable. And an all round cool dude!Matt came by in his bus and tuned up my brand new bike. Showed up early, explained to me everything he was doing and got my bike running super smooth in 30 minutes.Cant recommend this service highly enough.
I had 4 bikes services as part a mobile service and Matt did an excellent job. He was quick in response and willing to answer all my questions. We scheduled a job and he was on time and completed the work in a timely manner. Saved me from schlepping 4 bikes to/from a bike shop. well worth the reasonable fee.
John is the man!!These guys are one of the only ones in the area that know what they are doing when it comes to e-bikes, and it shows.Very knowledgeable, personable, quick, and overall a great shop!Im really glad I was pointed to them, and we will be customers long-term!
With my bike in need of repairs, these guys went above and beyond the calling. Not only were they able to diagnose what was wrong with my bike immediately, they were able to get it fixed right away. They were very communicative along the way, kept their promises and honest. Rare attributes in today’s business world. I will certainly be a returning customer and let anyone I come in contact with know to hit this shop up first. These guys get it. Sky’s the limit 🤘🏼
Last year during the pandemic, a group of us found a way to socially interact while social distancing and getting exercise every week.We rounded up extra bikes that were donated and invited friends who didnt have bikes but needed to get out and see friends.Freewheel Bike shop helped us get all these bikes repaired, tuned up and ready for us to use every week.Matt is an inspiration in his ability to start and run a small business, and hid passion for what he does is freaking awesome.10/10 Highly recommended!
I was extremely pleased with everything. I brought my bike in to get the axle changed, and just recently got into long distance cycling, so I knew my bike wasnt up to par. So I told them while it was there, they could do whatever they felt would be necessary, absolutely whatever. When I came back to pick it up, My bike was practically brand new after the tune up, but they didnt do crazy mods, they did what was necessary for what I was doing. I can 100% say that Freewheel Mobile Bike Shop is not about the money, they are about the quality of service, and what you as a person need. And the best part, I could afford to eat after I left! You wont be sorry you chose Freewheel!
Like many, I got back into riding my bike during the pandemic. It was very expensive and time consuming to get work done at my local bike shop. I want to support them but I also didn’t want to overpay, for slow service. So I decided to look around for alternatives. After a couple bad experiences I found the freewheel. They are quick, responsive, and affordable. They don’t have a fancy shop, but you get to talk to the person who is actually working on your bike rather than a sales rep. They have a mobile shop and will come to your house for a reasonable fee as well. My buddy broke some spokes on a ride one Saturday. We texted Matt from the trail. We swing by the shop and we’re back on the road an hour later. I like seeing bands when they are young, busting their but, and trying to break through. They may be a little raw but they give it 110% and have an energy that I lost years ago. If that speaks to you, give these guys a shot.
I could not have had a more positive experience working with Freewheel. I needed two bikes tuned up right away and Matt was able to get me in and had both bikes done within a couple hours. He revived a bike I had sitting around in my garage for about 6 years back to life and it rides better than I remember. I would reccomend them to all my family and friends.
I brought 2 different bikes to this place and in a very short time got each one back far better than I expected. I pay attention to details and the work was excellent also very reasonable truthfully I felt like I was stealing something the prices were so good , give they your bike and let them tune it up or fix it I am a service repair person but felt they would do a better job correctly they have a great place located in colonie thanks again to STEELE for his help a great guy
The people who work here are some of the kindest folk we’ve met. As inexperienced bike riders we did not feel intimidated or ignorant while asking our questions. I brought my 631 in to be reviewed after my son put it together originally. It was ready in less than a week! If you need a repair or replacement, stop by here.
Very horrible experience. I am a disabled vet and had a flat tire on my mountain bike and was looking for a mobile bike repair shop. I googled albany ny mobile bike reair and The Freewheel popped up. I went to their website and saw that they indeed advertised as a mobile bike repair shop that in their words will Do almost anything to get you to ride a bike. Great!! I looked at the calendar they provide online and it was empty for May 13th so I tried to make an appointment on their online form and it wouldnt load so I called their number and talked with someone who I believe is named Jean, (that was the name linked to the phone when they called me back). Anyway I have a half hour conversation with this person who I told that I needed someone to come to my home and fix my bike. I set up an appointment for 6pm that evening and everything was great until the person told me to bring the bike into the shop and I said that I asked for them to come to my house. The person seemed very distracted, not sure if they were high or not but sure acted like it. They then said that it wasnt worth their time to come out for a flat tire. Anyway after complaining I received messages from Matt who I think is the business owner who admitted a mistake was made and said he really wanted to help me out but couldnt seem to find the time to do it because of all his events. Terrible customer service to have your employees make a deal then cancel the deal because they werent paying attention to what the customer told them and then the owner is too busy promoting his business to actually work for his business.
On my regular afternoon ride through the Capital District, a foreign object kicked up from a vehicle struck my tire, leaving it deflated like a loaf of uncooked bread dough left on the kitchen counter for days on end. Unbeknownst to me at the time, I was doomed. My tire was ruined, I had nowhere to go. Plus, I had a dinner planned in just a few hours that I could NOT miss (mother was making lasagna; if you know, you know). After a quick Google search, I discovered The Freewheel Mobile Bike Shop and frantically called, only to be greeted by Matthew with the upmost professionalism and service. Within the next 15 minutes, I saw a bus turn the corner and drive towards my location. “Could it be?” I thought to myself. “No, that’s impossible”. It was, and at the blink of an eye this repair shop catered to my needs, provided extensive knowledge on what to do in the future, and had me riding away with the biggest smile on my face. I could not be more happy with my experience at The Freewheel Mobile Bike Shop!
Just the fact that they put together e-bikes puts them above the rest. Couldn’t find any bike shop to put together my E-Bike. I will update when bike is completed. Great customer service.🚴♀️🚴🚴♂️🚲🚵♀️UPDATE-I just picked up my beautiful E-bike!!!! I was schooled on the working of the bike. What a great business!!!!I will be back🛵Gained some weight during COVID going to burn it off while having fun. Ended up buying a beautiful bike rack from this store and hoping to do some rail trails here in Albany and up in Saratoga.I just feel so relieved I found a bike shop that feels like home.
I went to the nice new location to see Aventon e-bikes and Matt was fantastic. Rode a Pace 500 Next and an Aventure and bought the Pace. Great shop, fair prices, knowledgeable and nice to work with. I also noticed many other nice bikes, loads of parts and great service. Glad I didn’t buy the bike on-line. Support your local bike shop and The Freewheel bike shop is terrific. Rode 23 miles this morning and had a blast. Thanks Matt!!
Brought an inexpensive ebike pedal assist to Matt. Hyper (mfg) sent controller and sensor and we didn’t have any idea how to install. Matt took great care of us and fixed bike even though we didn’t purchase from him. I will always recommend this business for any repair/ purchases. Thanks so much

2022-03-08Hidden Gem! And close to all my other errands like Trader Joe’s on Wolf Rd. Matt is very honest and fair, clearly loves working on bikes+ helping riders of all levels and gets things done right away. I went in to make sure my bike had everything she needed for a trip and Matt made sure I was all set, even packed up my bike box beautifully. I’m so glad I went to this bike shop, highly recommend Matt and his crew.

2022-05-06Matt and Josh were exceptionally kind and helpful taking the time to answer lots of questions and making sure I was happy with the fit. As for their business…GO NOW before they get so busy they have to hire less knowledgeable and friendly people. As for the bike I purchased, I got an Aventon 350 step-through with 7-speeds. I love it! Yes, a 500 motor would make it a zip to climb those 45-degree hills, but I didn’t want a motor scooter. The power with the 350 makes me work just enough to get exercise enjoy it! I have easily gone 15 miles with a nice amount of effort and really no sweat. At 69, it can’t be beat. I can bike with just the 7 gears if I want. And at 43 lbs, I can lift it onto my bike rack. Some electric bikes are just too stiff and heavy. Not this one.I can’t say enough! It’s been well worth it.

2022-07-14Matt and his team were great. Spent time with me to discuss the best options for converting my aging TREK into a mid-drive e-bike specific to my needs. (Older cyclist with weaker knees who still wants to tour, recreationally.)The resulting build is exceptional. I love it. Turn around was good, pricing reasonable (in fact, they talked me out of a higher priced/higher powered motor that I really didnt need), and they kept me in the loop as things progressed.Definitely recommend people add them to their short list when thinking about upgrading, purchasing, or servicing their bikes.

2022-05-05The staff were incredibly professional and friendly. They did an amazing job at tuning up and repairing my bike and in 1/3 the time of other local places. I would highly recommend the Freewheel Bike Shop.

2022-07-07Drove 6 hours (rt) to test and buy a Himiway Escape at FreeWheel and couldnt have been more pleased with the expert advice I received not just about the bike but also the various accessories and a solid and less expensive alternative to the Himiway rack. Matt, the owner, made his sale for me because of his knowledge share, because of his patience and willingness to answer questions, and his friendly non-pushy approach. I wasnt sure that I wanted to spend almost $2k on the bike and accessories. It took me a while talking to Matt (plus the demo ride) to help me feel I was making the right decision. The bike is great, and I didnt have to assemble it or pay someone to do it (as would be the case if I had ordered it online). Matt did some minor tweaking before I left and adjusted the pedal assist levels to fit my comfort zone on acceleration. Other pluses include (1) the discount Matt gave me when I asked what he would do in response to a current Himiway online promotion, and (2) several rapid response texts the next day answering some of my questions. Because of the superb reception at FreeWheel, the 6 hour roundtrip to and from my home in VT was one of the better decisions I have made in my life.

2022-08-02Thank you Matt for installing the new battery on my daughters ebike trike…so many places won’t work on ebikes. Freewheel is super knowledgeable and and did an excellent job getting the trike up and running…oh yeah…and when we got it home, the horn that hadn’t worked for a year started working…thanks for a great experience!!!
