The Frog Pond in other cities:
Meat lovers may like this place, however there is absolutely nothing for a vegetarian. The restaurant was super crowded as it was the only breakfast place open in the area. That one star is for the server who was really sweet and she working for at least 3 servers, she needs a serious hike, bro.
I never been to this restaurant in the Park Ave area before. The decor inside is very nice. I ordered steak and eggs with white toast, o.j., and a coffee. Everything was very good. The only thing I wish they had difficulty is the coffee was weak. Wish it was stronger coffee. Need that extra boost in the morning.
Very quaint and welcoming. First time there and didnt know what to expect, but was pleasently surprised. Was recommended to come here by some friends and family, and now I will do the same by passing the word along!Loved the fact that I got a glass of milk in a nice wine glass. At this visit we got the classic, eggs benedict and also cinnamon swirl cream cheese filled Texas French toast. Yummy!! 😋
A place to get a fancy-ish breakfast and filling lunch entrees. Not too expensive. I had their Frog Pond Plate which is a garbage plate with chuck beef. It was supposed to come with frog legs (legit frog legs) but they ran out. No one offered to lower the price of the meal because they ran out of the most interesting part of it.
This was my first visit and unfortunately it was incredibly disappointing. The service was slow, but just for our table. All the others were seated after us with food delivered as we sat and waited. My meal was not up to expectations, but they are a popular spot so hopefully it was a one off.
This place was amazing. Staff was very friendly and welcoming, just what you would hope for in a small restaurant.I saw on their menu waffles and French toast that I wanted. Our server thought for a moment and said what if I can place the topping of the one dish on the other. I was sold immediately. Turns out she does this for herself. There must be several regulars as we heard no less then 2 people say they would be back tomorrow for breakfast. It’s a small place with about 10 tables inside and a few outside as well. It’s in a nice suburb. We found street parking easily. We will be back.
Really great omelet options. My teen said the chocolate chip pancake may be the most delicious pancake shes ever had (and I may be offended lol). Service was fast and order came out accurate. Definitely would dine here for weekday brunch. Arrived at 10:45am and there were maybe two tables taken. Half hour later, the place was packed, so timing was everything.
I came here for brunch with my mom and grandmother and overall was not pleased. The food was cold and took forever to come out. I can get over mediocre food, but I was clearly unhappy when our server dropped the check literally 10 minutes into us eating, without asking how it was or if we wanted anything else. It felt very careless and rushed, and the restaurant was not busy at all. As a server in NYC, I would’ve been fired for something like this. I understand this isn’t fine dining by any means, but I’d like to think attentive and pleasant service is to be expected no matter where you go.
The servers were amazing!I went on a Saturday morning and it was very busy which is expected. The weekend manager was very careless about what was being said about the food itself. My sister found a piece of hair in her burrito and had to send it back, my other sister ordered an omelette which was runny in the inside and had to send it back. Never once did the manager ask why we went send food back or ask if anything could be replaced or made again but our server was amazing with listening.
Very busy on the first really warm Saturday. Didn’t mind the wait to get a table. The 4 of us ordered and when the food came to our table, mine was missing. The server profusely apologized and said it was his fault. I figured “no problem, it’s just a burger so it shouldn’t take too long to have it come out.” He initially said he was going to take half the price off, which I was cool with. Well, I waited another 20-25 minutes before he came out and apologized yet again for saying the burger was still being cooked, and that he was going to not charge me for the burger. By the time it arrived, the other three in my party had finished their meals and I felt like I needed to eat as fast as I could so they didn’t have to wait on me.Having worked in the food service industry many years ago, I completely understand that mistakes happen, especially on crazy busy days. I appreciate the server admitting to the mistake, I just feel as though I shouldn’t have had to wait as long as I did after the initial realization of the mistake.
Excellent cream cheese stuffed french toast. Amazing mimosa variations. Delicious, homemade corned beef hash. Great service. Outdoor seating in nice weather. Accomodate separate checks only for parties of 4 or less.Visited for the first time. Myself and a few co-workers went out for breakfast after finishing our overnight shift on a Sunday morning. We didnt realize that they didnt open until 8am on the weekend and arrived about 20 minutes before that. It was a beautiful morning so the waitress was setting up the outdoor seating when we arrived, she realized we were waiting for them to open and got us in early. Ordered the cream cheese stuffed french toast (DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!), homemade corned beef hash, and a Mai Tai Mimosa. Everything was delicious!
The restaurant has a cool aesthetic and is in a great spot, staff was busy but polite. Would not recommend the #20 omelette though — it was filled with pretty much just sour cream, and honestly kinda gross. #14 was good though (my partner was kind enough to share with me).
The pancakes alone are worth the trip, I mean it. Just go get the signature frog pond pancakes. First of all they give you violently American sized portions for the pancakes. They are 3 massive flapjacks smothered in this delicious, light, creamy, not overly sweet or sticky caramel glaze sauce with some bananas on top. These things made the meter move, they made me think inappropriate things about food. Dare I say they were life changing pancakes. They have set the standard for a signature pancake in my mind just wow. The reason I only gave a 4 star rating is because the other items I got were regular run of the mill things done just fine. Hashbrowns were big chunky potatoes they were good, eggs were nothing special, bacon and pork sausage were good too. The restaurant is small, I want to say maybe 10-12 tables and room for 35-ish people not sure. But their sign says Since 1975 so this small quaint place is doing just fine. Cant fault them for that. If you go on a Saturday morning like my girlfriend and I, be prepared to wait. Its a packed house like most places on Park Ave at that time. Otherwise it was a really good experience. Ill go again when I feel up to dealing with park Ave crowds. But again, for the love of God get the pancakes.
Two of us ate breakfast there and as usual it was exceptionally good. I had cinnamon french toast with cream cheese and their homemade caramel sauce. I wish they would package it for sale its that awesome. Would go back as often as we could. Thank you for the excellent food and genuinely friendly, helpful and courteous waitresses.
This was the first time Ive been at The Frog Pond. We went for lunch on a Friday. The server was very good and very friendly. The beer- batter fish fry was fresh and tasty. Good French Fries. I really liked the coleslaw. Good porportions for the price (for that area). The dining room is small but, not at all cramped.
Best restaurant in the area. Fantastic burgers and great prices. The staff is absolutely fantastic. We go here a lot because of how great they are. It always feels like a family get together every time we go. Great chefs will make things specifically for you too if you cant find what youre looking for. Awesome pancakes. Every dish is presented like a work of art as well. Must visit for anyone traveling in the area.
This place is kinda hippy but the menu selection is great and the Eggs Benedict were pretty tasty too! It’s a hot spot for Sunday brunch so expect a wait since it can get pretty crowded fast. Our server was alright but the mimosas she served us were really watered down and you can barely taste the OJ.
Great little place. Fun diner-like atmosphere but with the best selection of breakfast, lunch, and brunch foods in the area. Sandwiches, soups, pancakes, eggs, all of it is fantastic. Theres always some new specials to try and if theres a holiday, you can be sure theyll do something special with their menu to celebrate.
My first time at the frog pond was today. We got a nice table on the sidewalk in the sunshine...a rare, but wonderful event in Rochester. The waitstaff is phenomenal! I have some dietary restrictions and the waitress went through all my options until we found a side I could eat with my omelet. I wish I caught her name- she was wonderful! Its a great atmosphere, delicious food- all around great experience!
One of my favorite breakfast places. Staff is super friendly and service is fast. They keep the coffee coming and the food is great. Prices are more than reasonable. Its small so it does get busy in fits and starts as people shuffle in during peak meal times but its worth it. Its popular with crowds of all ages and people meeting up or dining alone. In the summer you can sit outside and people watch park Ave which is awesome.
I always have a great time when I go. Only once did we have an issue: there was hair in the food, which strangely, the waiter did not comp us the meal. The space is kinda of small, so there is almost always a wait. The food is great! I prefer the Caesar salad with blackened salmon. I had the burger recently. It was tender and juicy, but not very flavorful. Servers are always well-learned on the menu and offer great suggestions. Food usually comes out swiftly and hot.
Nice little place for some brunch. The menu offers quite a bit from vegetarian options to meat-lovers. Their serving sizes are pretty big and will definitely fill you up for sure. I opted for the smoked salmon omlette with some english muffins on the side and it was pretty good. Waiters and waitresses were pleasant as well.Only thing I did not like was that we were seated in front of the door, literally about 5 feet away and anytime someone came in and out of the door, wed be blasted by a pretty cold draft. Other than that, it was a nice experience.
Only a few words:About:The local: Small but cleanThe staff: FriendlyService: FastCoffee: AwfulAbout the food: I ordered one of their burguers because Im a fan of them and use to critic them and in the Menu said thtat they were award winners. The one that I ordered doesnt had the taste that usually I found on others, this one doesnt have flavor. The fries taste like old oil. The pickle has more flavor than our whole order. Probably their break fast are better.
Food can be good and can be mediocre. Recent renovations look good but they no longer offer dinner service, only breakfast and lunch, both served until close. Their caramel sauce for pancakes or French toast is a must to try. Their home made hash is also good, have a decent burger selection.
My parents started bring me to Charlies Frog Pond just after they opened in the 70s. Its a place I still love to go to, but dont get the chance that often. The food is always good, the coffee while others say is not the best, is always good to me, and I prefer it to other places around here. The Frittata is the best around, and is a go to when Im there. But almost everything here is good. Its worth the wait if they are packed.
I went on a Sunday at the busiest time, 12:00. I arrived at 11:20 and signed in we knew the wait would be 20-30 minutes. When we were seated we already knew what we wanted and we ordered at 11:45. We received our food at 12:45. I wish the person who signed us in would have been honest about the actual wait to get in and get the food rather than just when we would be seated. We finished our food in less than 10 minutes, the portions of the Benedict were rather small. Also the waitress forgot our side of house-made hash which was a disappointment. However the food was nicely made and the waitresses were very attentive in making sure if we needed refills.
I ate Saturday brunch with a 20 minute wait for 3 and I thought the experience was generally overrated. My eggs Benedict was lukewarm with a chunky Hollandaise sauce, the rye toast was barely toasted (essentially soggy bread and butter), and the home fries not cooked thoroughly. But I was hungover, so I ate it all. Very friendly staff, and a new waiter, but the part of the orders were delayed due to new kitchen staff as well? My friends tofu scramble was tasteless and her pancake was mangled. Hoping for better quality control. On the upside, the drinks are strong.
Met a friend here for bfast, his wife said we had to get the pancakes, neither of us got pancakes. Based on the huevos rancheros they put their own spin on most dishes, portion size was above average and the food was very good. Will have to go back for pancakes some time. Oh and prices were fair as well.
My sister and I took my mom here for a Mothers day brunch, one week ahead of the holiday, and while things started off great, they ended terribly! After being told it was a 20-30 min wait, we were seated after waiting just 10 minutes. Our server appeared promptly with water and menus, but things went downhill once we placed our order. While waiting for the food, we never saw our server again and had to flag down other servers for refills on coffee and drinks. The food took forever to come out, although Im not 100% sure it wasnt just sitting on the back counter forever, waiting for our server to get the lead out and deliver it; and other than the banana pancakes, everything else was poorly seasoned and bland. I immediately wished we went somewhere else. Any additional item - 2 pcs of bacon, 3 sausage links, homefries etc., is $4.25 each and is insanely overpriced for the portions you get. Sadly this one visit was enough for me to never come back!Helpful stuff: parking is on street only; crazy small individual/unisex bathrooms - may you not need to change a baby or have a toddler in tow.; doesnt take reservations; and a very small dining room/patio area so expect long waits at peak times.
If youre coming for an omelette, then this is a great place to go (get the Gitsis!) but if youre coming for anything else...dont. Came here with a group and every dish was sub-par (aside from my omelette). The frittata is NOT a frittata, its just a pile of brown mush. The eggs Benedict are meh and the famous banana pancakes are so covered in caramel sauce that theyre practically inedible. (We asked for the sauce to be on the side but they didnt listen...) Furthermore, we watched our food sit for 10 minutes before it was brought to us, by that point it was ice cold. The hostess was very rude--clearly stressed by the rush of the day but we certainly didnt feel welcome. And every time the door opened, it sent a rush of freezing air.All in all, not really worth it unless youre there for an omelette and a mimosa.
It was okay. Nothing I would be excited for to go to again. The food is mediocre for example I liked (not loved) the crab cakes Benedict but had to give back the hash, it wasnt tasty by any means. The French toast was ok but i could have made them the exact same way at home, they dont put to much into making themselves stand out from a standard menu item. I have been twice now and for the 30 minute wait I wouldnt wait that long again for it. If it was 10 minutes I may. Its just about convince of location for me. I went on a Sunday at about 10:45 was seated at about 11:20. Food took about 10 minutes, the server was nice checked on us the correct amount of times. Hope this helps
Had several recommendations for this spot. Finally gave in and fought the crowd in this constantly busy little spot. Service was great but the food was all that great. I have never had so many onions stuffed into a burrito before. Literally all I could taste was overwhelming onions. My associate wasnt very impressed either. Cool spot though, just ask for easy onions!
I came here with my mom on Mothers Day and despite there being a 45 minute wait, it was wonderful! All of the waitresses were very kind and energetic although it was crazy busy! The 45 minute wait was okay though because its on Park Ave, so theres a lot of different stores you can walk around and see while waiting! The food was absolutely wonderful and they even gave us free flowers for Mothers Day!
I visited this restaurant in early part of September when I came home for a week and received my food late. After getting it, my pancakes were cold. I asked for French toast instead and she returend without syrupt. I attempted to get the waiters attention and was ignored. I was so disgusted I couldnt eat and naked to pay for the whatever was needed and they were going to charge me for the entire meal. TERRIBLE SERVICE.
Only reason why Im giving a star is because the food was decent aside from that I had a terrible experience! I went for breakfast and mimosas with 3 of my friends everything was fine up until we received our food. So one of my friends asked for the ketchup bottle so out of courtesy I opened it for her and passed her the ketchup. Right as she was about to dollop some of the ketchup out of the bottle I looked at the cap and it was MOLDY!!! I was horrified!! I called for the waitress and she looked surprised didnt offer an apology and went to the back to hand us, per her words, a brand new bottle. When I looked at the cap of that bottle it was ALSO MOLDY!! I was completely disgustedddd and to make matter worse they collected ALL of the ketchup bottles and proceeded to wash the caps out. NO ONE emptied the bottles to wash them and refill them they just cleaned the caps and wiped the bottles off! Which is an ABSOLUTE HEALTH CODE VIOLATION!!! No one tried to justify the incident and again no apology was offered! I will NEVER return nor RECOMMEND ANYONE to go there! If the ketchup bottles were disgusting imagine what else is!!
I absolutely love going to The Frog Pond. The banana pancakes are a must. The omelettes are great. I also love trying out all of the different eggs benedict available. Theres parking around back but I dont mind walking down the side streets near Park Ave in good weather.
Ignore any review more than 6-7 months old. No disrespect to the reviewers, they were probably right. This place did have problems but we tried it again in June, and... Holy complete turn-around, Batman! The special burgers are the highlight later in the day but I was there for brunch this past weekend and that side of the menu is as strong as ever. The frittata was overflowing with meaty potatoey peppery goodness, and my friends banana pancakes looked amazing.Give this another chance. We almost didnt, but were thrilled that we did!
The Frog Pond is a Rochester must-visit. Their omelets are incredible and the add-in options are abundant! Love when we get to sit in the window booths, with a real street-side dining experience. Summertime outdoor seating is fun, too, on the bustling Park Ave sidewalk. If you don’t like activity and murmur, request a seat inside, but the bistro feel outside is right on.
Maybe I just dont understand Park Avenue culture, but spending 20 minutes on a crowded sidewalk while I was seeing an empty table doesnt instill a lot of confidence in my first (and last) visit to the Frog Pond.NOTE: The menu posted on Google which helped me pick this place is completely out of date and the prices are MUCH higher now.We finally get in, crunched into a corner next to the bathroom. Almost got hit in the head several times with plates of food going by.30 minutes later we are waiting on 2 cheeseburgers. I order a coke and for $2.95 I get 12 ounces of soda. How do I know it was 12 ounces? Because it was served in a small Ball Mason Jar.I look over my shoulder at the cooks and a waitress has the balls to tell me Well you ordered well done burgers, so... I bit my tongue but was ready to walk out.40 minutes have gone by when the burgers finally arrive, the table is so small there is barely room for the oversized plates, our drinks and a bottle of ketchup.I notice right away that while my wifes patty melt appears to be a hand formed burger, the onions on her burger are barely cooked, forget sauteed. My burger, by comparison is the standard issue 1/2 pound frozen patty that Aramark vending sells to 90% of the restaurants in Rochester. For less than the $7.50 I paid, I can get the same burger anywhere.Overall, underwhelmed, unimpressed and for what I paid might as well have gone to Dennys.
While the Frog Pond has traditionally been known for breakfasts, brunch and lunch their dinners are great too! We had the pleasure of dinning at the Frog Pond Valentines Day dinner 2013. Very diverse menu, amazing presentation, fantastic service, delicious dinner with nice selection of wines!Highly recommended!
I have always been so so about this place, but today was the kicker. Decided to try the blueberry pancakes after asking if the blueberries were fresh, and being told yes. Well the blueberries werent fresh, but it was explained to be they were fresh prior to being frozen. Last straw for me.
Okay so first off this is my first review ever and i’m just now leaving this place and it’s the best eggs benedict i’ve ever had, the food here is absolutely amazing. i’m visiting from pennsylvania and this tops every single local restaurant i have back home. absolutely amazing
I came here with my sister Saturday afternoon for lunch. It was our first time at the Frog Pond. We did not wait very long for our table- about 10 minutes. Our food took over 25 minutes to get our table. People that were seated before got theie food and some even left before we got our food. When it finally did arrive, my sisters order was wrong. She orderdd eggs florentine (no meat). The server brought her eggs Benedict with bacon on it. It took almost another 10 minutes for it to come out. All of our food was luke warm. Very dissapointing.
I paid 10$ for a plate of onions (huevous rancheros), I did love how they topped it off with a healthy heaping portion of raw jalapeño though, I probably have never been so sad to eat breakfast. I was so hungry.... I think my server has a learning disability because she just did not get it. Theres nothing like cold coffee to warm up in the cold winter months. Im concerned..

2022-01-03We were seated right away! All of the staff was super friendly and welcoming. I loved how clean it was as well. I ordered the cream cheese stuffed cinnamon swirl French toast and eggs with bacon and breakfast potatoes with cheese bacon and jalapeños. My friend ordered a waffle with strawberries potatoes and bacon as well. Everything was fresh and delicious 😋 I will definitely be back!

2022-06-14Delicious food with a light and fun atmosphere! The cream cheese stuffed french toast is definitely something worthy of coming back for. It was light, not too sweet, and cooked to perfection with my side of bacon. They have an extensive menu and a lovely outdoor seating area.My server was attentive, kind, and friendly about what they liked here. Ill be coming back to try some lunch, but I also highly recommend Frog Pond for breakfast!

2022-03-09Amazing food and service! Try the banana pancakes. Me and my wife were in Rochester for four days and this was by far the best food we had the entire time. I highly recommend that you try the frog pond. The customer service was great, helped us with what we needed and left us alone to eat.

2021-11-22Hands down my new favorite breakfast spot. They have omelets and Benedicts, pancakes and classic breakfast goodies. Its a small place so its best to go early. They open up at 8am, not 7am like it may say online. The area is nice, the food fresh, and the interior really quaint. Looking forward to having breakfast there again!

2021-09-13Wonderful food and location! When friends come in from out of town this is where we bring them! Nothing is better than a wonderful breakfast as you watch the hussle of Park Ave on a Sunday Morning. Highly recommend!

2021-10-20This is an iconic downtown Rochester restaurant. It has been there for decades. At one time they had wallpaper with frogs, but no longer. The restaurant is small and bustling at breakfast, even on a Wednesday morning. There were tables outside, but we ate inside.I had a savory Southwest Burrito. It was made with scrambled eggs and was full of onions, peppers, and bacon. On top it was covered with a tangy salsa. It came with some of the best breakfast potatoes Ive had. Everything was delicious. My wife had the Huevos Ranchero, and she was very happy with it.The service was prompt and attentive without being annoying. The atmosphere in the place was charming. Go there if you have a chance!

2021-08-01Busy, and still good! Server was super nice and the menu was like a good diner menu but not too overwhelming. Sweet potato fries slapped, otherwise good, basic breakfast/brunch/lunch food with a nice atmosphere and outdoor seating
