The Gallivant Times Square in New York
My husband keeps saying when we go back, I want to stay in the exact same place. The location is a half block from the main part of Times Square. We were within walking distance to so much! Its a great location, and had views of the Hudson. Our favorite part of the Hotel was our housekeeper on the 15th floor! She was the best!!! She was always smiling, outgoing, and just made the whole experience better. We always came back to a clean room with fresh towels. Honestly the front desk could do more greeting as we all walk in and out. The only time they spoke to us was when we checked in and out. I wish more people were like our housekeeper.
My husband booked this place in last minute. Reading the reviews, I was nervous. We got to the room and it was about the size I expected. We brought a toddler and a pack and play fit perfectly next to the bed. The shower has no shower curtain. Theres no fridge or microwave. The location is great! They do charge for bags if you are checking in early because the lobby fills up quickly. The staff was great! Ac worked well and a nice tv. The bed and pillows were comfy. The only things I wish were that there was a fridge and microwave. We got rid of so much food because if this. It was great for the price.
I love this hotel. But please read why. I wanted to live in the real New York. I wanted to experience every movie and TV show version of New York. This hotel has lifts with a mind of their own. Our room had a noisy air con unit which was the old hang out of a window style. The room was clean but did have a cool run down new York look. The staff are amazing and friendly and know what the hotel is like. I loved it here and will stay again. But this is only for you if you want to embrace the whole new York experience. If you want your hotel to be a break from this ... Then another hotel further from times square is best. The Asian restaurant.next door is the best Ive eaten. Highly recommend this hotel !!!!
If I can give zero stars I would. DO NOT STAY HERE! We stayed for one night and it was awful. THERE WAS A COCKROACH IN THE ROOM! On top of that we got the premium room which had bunk beds for our kids and it was broken! No towels in the room and half the outlets in the room werent working. We waited to speak with a manager and no one came out. Weve contacted the hotel numerous times and apparently no one knows how to answer their phone. Save your money and go elsewhere! Absolutely disgusting and service is just an absolute zero. Worst experience and hotel ever.
So the first thing I noticed was the scruff marks near rooms door handle....like someone have previously tried to break in 🤔It was a small room but fine for 2 people. The bathroom door wouldnt close. I complained about this but it was never fixed. The lamp next to the bed didnt work either and the view was terrible. It was essentially of an air conditioning unit. The windows didnt open...not that we would have opened them but would have liked the option.Under the radiator cover was filthy.Be aware, they take a deposit off you when you book in to cover any damage to the room. Its now been about 10 days since leaving the hotel and I havent received it back yet or had any contact from them.Other then that, the staff were fine. The hotel reception is nice. They have fish and a cool bar directly next door.
We had to change room after the first night as we had a sleepless night, the air con unit in the room was extremely noisy, one of the bedside lamps were broken and the sink wasn’t draining as it should have been. The staff at reception were also rude, a man was on his phone for approximately 5 minutes before we were seen to. The second room was not up to standard either but it would have been too much of an inconvenience to change rooms again. To top this all off it has been 30 business days and I have not got my security deposit back
Location - 5 Stars! Perfect spot that somehow seems a bit quieter then the rest of Times SquareRoom was basic, but perfect for a weekend getaway! The bed was comfortable, the room was old but well kept.Four stars because you are charged a “traveler’s fee” upon arrival, which is about $34 a night, which allows you to have breakfast, wifi, and the privilege of being close. The wifi was not used, which isn’t a huge deal, but being in a city with so many food options- this made us feel inclined to stay and eat breakfast at the hotel. Initially, we were excited to save the money, but the breakfast was not good. Eggshells found in pancakes, bacon burnt one day then raw the next, just not good at all and kind of a bummer for the morning. The bathroom is incredibly small, and the water in the shower does not get hot for a very long time, if at all. The shower in our room did not have the other half of the door, so that made your shower even more cold. You get what you pay for, I just wish the extra charges didn’t appear! My mistake for not reading fine print
When we first arrived we checked in pretty fast, so I thought this was going to be good. The lobby looked nice. As we got to our room it was the size of small office with a bathroom and a closet. There was no fridge or microwave, barley an storage for our belongings. The paint on the walls we’re coming off and scratches on the wall paper. The air conditioning was broken. My friend asked for another blanket and they gave her one with holes in it. There were stains on the sheets. The handle to the bathroom was broken. We discovered in the shower there was mold inside the nob when my friend tried to turn the water on it came right off and the mold was all inside of it. The staff seemed rude. The hotel is connected to a bar so at night they play loud music. The maids were really loud @8am knocking on everyone’s doors, even though we had the sign on our door not to be disturbed they still knocked anyway and then came into our room when we were sleeping. They need more lighting in there rooms. There gym is in the basement where the maids have all of there stuff so there no room to walk around down there. Very loud and dirty. Even though there cheap I wouldn’t stay here again in my honest opinion. But if you want to go for it.
Checked in , (and they charged an extra $150 when they originally said $36) got to our room to find the bedding wasn’t changed, there were dirty towels, garbage and beer cans all over the room ! They switched our room. The bathroom was still gross the showers have mildew all in them and have clearly never been cleaned properly. There was what seemed to be drugs on the floor , I assume those aren’t cleaned properly either. The elevators are BEYOND SLOW which is inconvenient, and they’re tiny. Check out at noon after spending $600 to stay here they still charge $6 to store your luggage , ridiculous. Spend the extra money and get a better hotel, this one sucks !
Positive: The hotel was right in the heart of everything you would need. It was surrounded by many theaters and a block from Times Square. Highly appreciated the convenience of the location. Additionally, the staff was extremely friendly. Negative: Although the rooms were nice and more spacious than I imagined, I would have liked additional amenities such as a mini fridge or microwave for consumption of leftovers.
Stayed October 2021 for one Friday night. The check in was seemless and the desk attendant was friendly. The lobby was attractive and not overly pompous like some other New York hotels. The elevator is slow but great for getting to know other guests. Chatting with other guests is always fun. (Or be on your phone whatever). The room was on an upper floor with a view only a mother could love......but I didnt book for a view. The room was small but very functional. A desk on one wall, a bed and bedside table on the others. The A/C was plenty cold, and the bathroom was clean, stocked, and perhaps larger than the rest of the room. A glass window shower with no door was nice with water that got hot quickly. The sink drained very slowly after washing my hands because the drain stopper was closed and I couldnt figure out how to open it. (Very minimalist style sink). The location truly cannot be beat. For the price of a room, this is a great spot to be. You are a block or two from all the major theatres, delicious $1 pizza just a few blocks down, hells kitchen bars just a few blocks west, times square at your footsteps, and multiple Subway stops within a short walking distance.Id stay again for the price of the room. Id stay again for the location. Id stay again for the awesome conversation with other guests. Id stay again for the vibe. Its not a 5 star hotel. Get over it. Youre not in New York for the hotel.5 stars if they didnt require the standard deposit bullcrap that takes forever to refund or if they have sinks that dont require a degree in nuclear physics to use.
I was worried because of all the negative reviews but considering the location it’s a great place to stay. The rooms might be on the smaller side but it’s downtown, for the price it’s great. Staff is friendly, and everything was clean. They only had half a door for the shower, so water goes all over the place which was very strange but house keeping cleans it up everyday so whatever. The elevator is absolutely awful, that’s the only issue I really had with this place. Waiting 10 min+ for the elevator is unacceptable.
Stayed there for a week in April 2022. I was worried when I read the comments before coming, but my experience was better than what they suggested. My room (15th floor) was small (but hey, its a two minutes walk from time square, close to Central Park and several subway stations), conveniently arranged. It was very clean (probably recently refreshed) and thoroughly cleaned every day, personnel was very nice, wifi was working fine every night. As other comments pointed, the room was a bit overheated, so I had to open my window a bit to cool it down, but nothing problematic
This place is a joke... Long story short Dont go there! The rooms are small and dirty. You can see the dust on the walls and sometimes its an effort getting in the bathroom, because there is just no space to open the door. The double bed measured 1,2m width, so taller people should probably request at least a queen size bed (which of course is an extra charge). Beds are too soft as well. The rooms might have a safe , but its questionable if it works. We had to change our room 2 times. First time the bed was too small for me (Im 1,9m tall). Then in the secon room the ceiling in the bathroom started leaking, they fixed it. The day after the ceiling started leaking again both in the bathroom and in the room itself. We changed room again. When requesting some type of compensation, wed been told that stuff like these are normal and, I quote, look it up online, its like that everywhere here.Furthermore, next to the hotel there is a club, that shares an entrance with the hotel. Depending on side and floor of your room, you can hear the pumping music until 4am in the morning. The party starts at 4-5pm, every day. Even on a Sunday.Do yourself a favour and dont book the Gallivant. There is a reason why the prices are as cheap as they are, but still the negatives where pretty obvious. Get an Airbnb, youll thank me later.PS the rooms have no refrigerator.
This place was very nice for a NYC hotel and so close to Times Square. It was very clean, quiet, and the best part, CONVENIENT location. Literally never more than a 15 min walk from almost everything you’d want to do as a tourist in NYC. Only down fall is the price, but I guess it’s expected for the city.
Dont expect the best hotel you have ever stayed, but it is clean and the location is TOP. The difference between regular and queen sized bed is some 10cm, so consider before you pay for a bigger bed. As we were there, there was no WiFi on the 4th floor, and they did nothing to fix it... But it is one of the cheapest hotels in Midtown Manhattan - so as I said - dont expect it to be the best. :)
I usually don’t write reviews, but I’ve been going back in forth about how I feel about my stay.We arrived on a Friday about 330 pm. Our room was “ready,” which was great. Check in staff wasn’t especially personable. We had a family member pay for our hotel as a gift so it was taken care of in advance. We did have to put a credit card on file for damages, which is expected. The odd thing is that instead of putting our card number on file, the clerk wrote all of the card information down on a piece of paper. What’s going to happen with that post it note?We have a short 2 night stay. Nothing has been outright horrible, but enough things have caught our attention that make us go “huh?”-our tv is crooked-light switches don’t work-we have zero control over the temperature in our room. Too hot? That sucks. Too cold? Eh whatever.-our bathroom door has something nasty crusted to the bottom of the door-the bathroom floor/wall are covered in nasty rust stains. I understand it happens, but it looks dirty. It’s impossible to tell if it’s clean or not.-the small shelf in the shower is literally hanging off the walls and the screws that are barely holding it up are rusted.-we found a stray Bobby pin in the bathroom which makes us question the attention the rest of the room gets-bed sheets have poor elastic and come off the bed, tanging you up or leaving you sticky on the plastic bed liner.-elevators are JANKY. made loud banging noises and shake. They definitely feel unsafe. The piece de resistance is that we were only given hand towels. Not a single wash cloth or bath towel in sight.I understand this is not a five star hotel and the price is reasonable for being in Times Square, but $200 per night is a lot to not be able to shower, sleep peacefully, or be generally comfortable in your room.
Positive: Location was great for Times Square, Broadway theaters etc Negative: First room - most lights did not work. upgrade to a bigger room - no hot water, iron, hair dryer, ice bucket. Housekeeping staff was very loud in corridor outside of the room. The front desk staff was cordial, but seemed annoyed at us, no TP in lobby rr
Literally seconds away from Times Square. Room was very clean, although small. The bed was comfy but small, definitely wouldn’t be ideal for a couple! Im 5ft 4 and my feet were nearly touching the bottom! The corridors smelt of cannabis, which was weird because the rooms and lobby smelt fresh. Our safe was broken so we couldn’t use it. If you’re light sleeper, you will find it hard to sleep with noise from Times Square. The hotel charges you to hold your luggage, which I have never heard off! $3 per bag. Staff were friendly though.I wouldn’t stay again due to noise and location.
Positive: We booked a family room (sleeps 6) for 5 adults. It had two beds and a twin bunk bed. The rom was spacious enough that we weren¿t on top of each other. The bathroom had a large walk in shower, again large enough not to feel cramped with two sinks. Negative: We required help of maintenance to adjust thermostat (2 units) because too warm when we came back to the room. We ended up turning one off and keeping other on 68 which made it work. Elevators were noisy and slow
The staff was very very rude. They didn’t care at all about us. Every time we asked for something they would ignore us completely and rolled their eyes. There is no wifi in the rooms just in the lobby and it’s not even theirs, they told us they were on it but it seems it hasn’t worked for over a year. One day they didn’t even make our bedroom and when we went downstairs to ask why they just ignored us. We had a very very very bad experience with this hotel, the staff and everything. A COMPLETE NO, don’t be fooled by this ******* a**holes
Positive: My room didnt have wifi for some reason and they offered to move me to another room but while in the elevator I talked to other guests who also said they didnt have wifi. My stay was originally for 12 days, I only stayed for 2 days. I do not recommend. Negative: I dont have a positive thing to say about the hotel, the rooms were dirty, stains on the walls, air conditioning unit falling off the wall. While at the check in desk I heard other guests complaining about dirty towels and uncleaned rooms.
PROS: The location is amazing within walking distance of everything in Times Square. Friendly staff and they hold your luggage before check-in so you don’t have to schlep it all over the city. Clean, modern, comfortable rooms with comfortable bed and nice fluffy pillows.CONS: NOISY! I can sleep through anything so it wasn’t a problem for me, but my husband could not sleep. There is a nightclub attached to the hotel (whyyy?) with loud booming music easily heard in our room that plays until the wee hours. Also loud clanging pipes and another guest was cackle laughing in her room that bothered us. The elevators were so slow that we ended up just using the stairs.Overall I would recommend the Gallivant to anyone wanting to be in the heart of the action while getting a great deal on a room. I would not recommend to light sleepers or anyone traveling with a lot of heavy luggage.
The location was perfect and staff were ok but its all downhill from there. The rooms were very tired. The room overlooked a busy fire station and one the elevators banged and crashed and sounded like it was about to invade our room every time it was in use. Booking.com sold it to us with the false pretence it had a rooftop terrace bar. The photos were of the penthouse terrace. This was a despicable mislead and the property is mysteriously no longer listed on booking.com
●rude reception staff●room floor extremity dirty. Id say it hadnt been washed in months.●pulled out bedside locker to plug in my phone mountain of dust●everytime the elevator went up and down there would be extremely loud noises in our room●had to pay $3 per suitcase for them to mind out suitcases even though we checked out early. That was a first. What a robbery●WOULD NOT RECOMMEND
Staff wasn’t friendly, after one knock they just walked into our room. We got charged $50 for late check out and they charge $3 per bag if you were to leave it with them after check out. There was a “shortage” on towels. They also never answered the phone when we called.
So it’s an old hotel, small slow undersized elevators, rooms are really beat up, no to little plugins for charging, No one answers front desk phone when needing help, no hot water after 10am in mornings, everyday they had no hot water in multiple rooms we had, toilet backed up without using it, thankfully a community plunger was in utility closet on our floor, I couldn’t get anyone to help. The walls and doors are thin, elevator make a lot of noise for rooms next to it, Wi-Fi never worked well either. Other than nice stuff and great location don’t stay here if you value convenience.
Positive: Two Front desk staff promised help, did nothing. Third was professional, assisted us. Negative: Floor dirty. No soap 3/4 days. No coffeemaker tho there was supposed to be. Asked for one, was promised one, came on day 3 of 4 but with no cream or sugar. 2/3 lamps not working, 3rd one broken. Safe didnt work. Recep staff promised help, didnt do it.
Everything was fair for the price. The 2 issues were; things that are commonly touched (light switches, remote control, doorknobs) appeared to not have been wiped down and had a lot of dirt on them.Secondly, the noise level from the first floor bar was such that you could hear constant bass and it was challenging to ignore. I love house/edm/heavy bass but it was challenging to sleep when it goes on until 3/4am. We were on 7th floor for reference.Final note: would go back again as it was a great experience but have a parking plan ahead of time if youre planning on driving. Be ready to jump out of the car, quickly unload and have a parking garage in mind. We used spot hero and found a way to save 65$ instead of using the hotel suggestions. It was only 2 small blocks away from the Gallivant.Greatful for a wonderful experience overall.
Positive: The hotel was dingy and dark. The ceiling of the room was painted grey. Only 2 out of 3 elevators was in service and my friend was told that one was for staff only! We were not informed about how to access the WiFi and did not know where to locate the ice Negative: The hotel was very disappointing. Hallways and room were dark. Staff were not friendly and didn¿t inform us about the amenities or lack of in the hotel.
Positive: Location. Macarena¿s and their staff. Negative: Staff rude, room dark and hot, light out, outlet broken, ceiling dusty, most breakfast items out all three mornings, broken treadmill. Paid hotel fee upon booking and charged an additional hotel fee upon checkout that was not explained at check in.
I’ve stayed at this hotel a couple of times in the past and it wasn’t bad. After tonight, however, I doubt I’ll be staying here again. I’m currently awake in my room due to the ridiculously loud music that’s blasting from downstairs and reverberating up through the building. I tried to call the front desk to complain, but no one picked up. I walked down to the lobby, where I found a line of people all trying to switch their rooms to get away from the music. By the time I got to the desk, there were no more rooms available. The employee at the front desk was polite and felt bad, but he couldn’t stop the music. He told us that for the last three weeks, they cut the music around 4am. He wanted to offer us earplugs, but he didn’t have any. I’m now back up in my room trying to sleep and hoping that the music stops soon.If you’re looking for a cheap hotel in a good location and don’t need to wake up early in the morning, this may be your place. I know that it’s not for me anymore.P.S. - I didn’t think this night could get any worse, but as I write this, they just started blasting “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” I’m done…
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. The hotel does the bare minimum. First off, we arrived an hour before checkin and were told its $50 for early checkin, which is a scam.We had things to do though, and paid for it. 2nd, our room was terrible. The room was stuffy and hard to breathe in the moment we walked in. The heater system wasnt working. It only blasted out heat. The phone also wasnt working. When we went back down to the front desk and told them our issues, we were rudely interrupted and given an attitude. They gave us new keys but no apology. The 2nd room was alright. But the wifi wasnt working. And the room phone also wasnt working. Again. There are 4 vending machines in the building. 2 of which didnt exsist, the 3rd was out of order, and the 4th didnt have any water. When we told the front desk about our new issue, they told us that we could just take a cup from the room and fill it up at the ice machine 5 floors below. When we told them that that wasnt worth it, they told us the restaurant in the building had drinks, but they didnt take cash.Like how does this whole establishment not provide the basics??The only good thing about this place is its location and how close to Times Square it is.
Attractive location at an affordable price. Although the accommodations were acceptable, what mainly struck me was the staff. They are competent and will go above and above to address any issues or queries you may have. I immediately felt at ease in the hotel and got to meet the pleasant employees, many of whom have incredible tales to offer. Definitely staying here on my future trip to New York City.Sincerely,Jonathan
Rooms were much much smaller than they look. Shower flooded the bathroom and the entire room would become incredibly humid. The soundproofing was not strong enough for the venues immediately below it and music would play until about 2am. 90% of the staff were nice but the night shift lobby agent was pretty rude over asking for water bottles or larger cups for water. Used most of our towels keeping the room from flooding and had to ask for more. Window in the shower opens to adjacent units balcony.Location is superb.
They did not sign me in until 5 p.m. Received my room at 5:30 p.m. (it was supposed to be received by 3 p.m. maximum. The rooms are truly not clean and one of the employees, Antonio, is extremely unpleasant. He purposely gave the available room that would have belonged to me to someone else that came right after (it was indeed not a coincidence). Do not recommend a stay here!
My fiancé and I stayed at the hotel and it was close in proximity to the places we wanted to visit. However, it’s been almost a month and we haven’t been able to speak to anyone about where our security deposit is. Accounting departments and manager lines are all voicemail machines and several front desk individuals have been incredibly unprofessional. I’d love to finally reach someone.
This hotel is a dump. Severe safety issues. I check into the hotel and they charge $50 to check in early. The staff began let’s make a deal and said she would upgrade the room for $20 per day. Assigned and issued cards to the room on the 11floor. Get to the room and it’s occupied by another guest. Reassigned me to another room. It was extremely tiny, the bathroom you couldn’t turn around it, no heat in the room Ice cold and the AC unit door was falling off with exposed wiring. They reassigned another room in the far end of a hallway. The door to that room didn’t feel secure. The hallway to the room was approximately 2-feet wide and no heat. This hotel is nothing as pictured on their website. Has security issues, extra small rooms, no heater, slow slow elevators. Dirty carpet in the hallways, bathroom sink had hair and The building is too old and this hotel is disgusting. It’s a great location but I DONT RECOMMEND this hotel. Be cautious. I left this hotel. if they issue room keys To a room occupied by another guest who’s to say that they wouldn’t issue keys to a room I stayed in. They might not close the door and walk away as I did. Hotel clerk didn’t think it was a huge deal and blamed the issues on her coworkers for no removing the room off the availablilty list.
Location was great, everything else was sub-par.We came into the room to find our window open, probably to make up for the fact the the in-room A/C unit was barely functional. The knobs on the unit were so flimsy that I was afraid I was going to break it whenever we needed some cool air, and when it was on, even on high, we could barely feel it.The bathroom was quite cramped as well. If you plan on using the toilet, get comfortable with the wall in front of you, because it’s very much in your face. The shower “stall” is just a panel of glass that prevents most of the water from splashing out of the shower, but the room will definitely get wet.Overall, it’s not the worst place to stay if you’re looking for a convenient location, but it’s definitely not a good spot for a family. If it’s just 1 or 2 people and you really only need a room to pass out in at the end of a long day, it will do fine, just plan on being a little warm throughout the night.
Horrible stay. If i could make 0 stars i would. I would not recommend. $50 early check in fee on top of them not holding luggage for their customers is just ridiculous.Rooms are really tiny too.Great location, literally on Times Square, but honestly Id never stay here again. Very trashy place. Rooms are dirty. Paint chipped on the wall. A hole in the bathroom door. Windows in the one of rooms showed a lot of trash outside on the side of the hotel. Hallway had a very weird smell. And their is no room service. Hotel was $400.00 for one night which ruined my entire vacation. Hotel should only be 20.00 a night. I would compare to a motel 6
BUYER BEWARE!!! DON’T STAY HERE!!!This hotel over charged me for resort fees!!! I called and was told the fees were $34 per night and I was charged $50 per night. Also I reserved and paid for a king room, however upon arrival I was told that they only had a double bed or 2 twin beds available! No one was at the front desk when I arrived and I had to wait for someone to to come. The elevators are extremely small (not good for social distancing due to COVID) and very slow. The carpet on the 15th floor are dirty and worn out. Dresser drawers stayed in an open position and I had to wedge paper in them to keep them closed. The bathroom had not been cleaned properly and hair was there from someone else (very disgusting) I gave a rating of 1 star because there wasn’t an option for zero stars!!! For the money that I paid, I could have stayed somewhere else nicer.
Nice margaritas, ambient even the guy that cleans the bathroom he was very kind forgot his name but told me he was from haiti best guy ever, I love going to places and meeting people with those personalities !!! The rooms are nice, front staff are nice, the servers are funny and have a good service.
The Gallivant is a hotel for someone who just needs a bed for the night. The price they charge is nowhere near the quality that is offered at this institution. Our AC unit was broken during our stay and the staff did not attend to this issue, through our three nights, it was constantly freezing and uncomfortable. The bathroom was so small that the door couldnt even open entirely without hitting the toilet. The bathroom shower was missing an entire glass pane, there were hinges on the wall, but no door. The phone in the room didnt work and there was damage on the wall outside the bathroom due to poor ventilation, after all, the bathroom fan also didnt operate. In addition to the subpar quality of the rooms, there were also excessive hidden fees in the pricing of the hotel. There were over $200.00 worth of hidden fees (not including taxes) that were not advertised in booking.com, which is were we booked the room. If youre looking for a bed and shelter with college friends, the place is fine. However, if you have a family or a romantic partner that youre trying to enjoy NYC with, this place is not for you. I would advise to look somewhere else. Dont fall for the trap because its near Times Square, its not worth it.
Positive: The location is key! Only a few blocks in either direction to all theaters and Times Square. Negative: The elevators are loud! My room was next to the service elevator and any time it would run there would be banging/clanging sounds against the wall in my room. It would occasionally startle me awake in the night. The shower also floods the bathroom.
Worst customer service Ive ever received. We had a flickering light in our bathroom for the entire duration of our stay which was 6 days. We told the front desk every single day and still nothing. Then on day 3 the hot water stopped working and was down for 2 days. The hotel assured us that a refund would be issued for the inconvenience but have now refused to issue any refund. Would not stay there again.
Hotel charged me twice plus another charge each additional night. They said they’d release the money but takes days to get it back. The AC did not work in my room so they move me to another one where the phone doesn’t work. You hear the elevators going up and down all night. Would not stay.
First, the room I got seemed to be under remodeling, the ceiling had white paint spots as if it wasn’t finished and the walls were dirty. Then, I put the do not disturb sign as I had an early job interview via zoom and they came in the room during my interview.Lastly, I asked if I could stay half an our over the checkout time to take a call. They didn’t even made an effort to see if it was possible and they were really rude.I don’t recommend it at all, rooms are not even close at what they show in their website. Terrible experience.
Booked a room thru a third party site. The pictures displayed was nothing like the rooms I received. I paid for a King bed with views. The room I got was not clean. There was toilet paper in the toilet and what looked like bloody fingerprints near the windowsill. I went downstairs and advised the front desk staff. I was then given a Queen bed with a view of the building across the street and scaffolding the room was facing the street and I could hear all the vehicles and their music as if my window was wide open. The rooms are old and not worth the $250 I paid.
I paid for a double room with a view and I received a room with a single bed and matte windows on the first floor ..... in the morning I didnt have hot water, they said that the next day they would resolve to give me what I paid .. ..I stayed there, no one came to solve me ... so a room that cost $ 100 I paid $ 170. Be ashamed of the THIEVES YOU ARE.
I booked a room through snaptravel and got a great deal on it. Stayed for 3 days and it was decent value.Pros: location, the front desk people I encountered were helpful, great water pressure in the shower, free Showtime, very cleanCons: the bathroom. Its tiny! And the lighting is terrible for taking photos.Overall, its a nice place if youre a solo traveller or a couple.
The room is small it smells like smoke. Walls were nasty the women at the front desk has bad customer service. DONT STAY HERE !!!!!!!!!!!!!! WASTE OF MONEY AND THEY KEEP YOUR DEPOSIT. Never coming back I told my friends and family in Boston MA not to go here so if I can help everyone else to its a SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stayed for 2 nights pre-paid via a booking site. Their site states a $100 deposit will be charged for each night and I was charged $350+. When I confronted the front desk they admitted it was an error and my money would be returned. I had also left items in the closet. I emailed twice with no reply. I was put on hold twice with no answer. And a week later my deposit was still pending. Finally spoke to someone in accounting who said the charge was not an error but it had not yet been released. She was helpful with the items as well but I’m very disappointed in the inconsistent answers and having to call a week later to get MY money back. The room was smaller than the pictures online but was well kept, comfortable, and in a decent location. If you don’t care about your money being held with no response then book here.
This hotel is horrible. My family booked the family room which was not available and we didnt know until the time of check in.. So we had to split up the family. Lights in the bedroom were broken. I was told the rooms had a fridge and they didnt i had to call to the front desk 3 times for them to bring one. I also asked to have the manager call me and guess what... that didnt happen. The hallways have trash thats been sitting for two days now. Big Disappointment! oh and staff no help at all..... RUN
It was a perfect stay. We booked a room for 5 people and it was great. A super spacious room with a bunk bed and two double beds, all of them super comfy. The views were pretty nice with big windows and the room was very clean, which is very important for me. The breakfast isn’t that big but it was delicious. Of course the best part of this hotel is its location, less than 5 min walking from Times Square and from many subway stations. I am aware that prices can vary a lot, but the truth is that we got it for a very good price considering that it is a good 4-star hotel right in the middle of the touristic center. We would choose it again if we ever go back to the big city.
Great location for first timers in NYC. Rooms are small (expected) but we were not visiting NYC for the hotel room. Room was clean, fresh linens every day. Hotel elevator is sketch but we made it work. Aziz at the front was fantastic and went out of his way to help us. Sadat was also great, in that he got us a car to the airport cheaper than taxi and Uber at the time.
I absolutely hate this hotel!I should’ve looked at the reviews before booking. Came to NYC to run the marathon, little did I know I would not even be able to sleep due to the loud club music playing all night. Front desk wasn’t available, the rooms are super small and very cold since we cannot adjust the thermostat in the room. They charge $50 to check in even an hour earlier. Horrible experience! Do not stay here.
Positive: Location and friendly staff. It had the potential to be great. It seemed they were short staffed and the hote was not well taken care of previously. I think possibly due to Covid and finding people to work. Negative: Shower was cold and only intermittently hot. We found gum stuck to the bed frame and a toy behind the toilet so it was not cleaned very well.
Positive: The second room that we were given was roomy and spacious. Negative: Given smaller room than what I paid for. Internet did not work 90% of time. Waited too long for the elevator, 1 person per elevator. Constant banging from service elevator. Dirty! Paid $50 to check in early around 1pm finally got settled @2p, pointless.
I do not recommend that u stay at this hotel. I travel very often and stay in all kinds of hotels. This one is by far the worst. It started with one employee stating that i didnt have to pay a seperate deposit for each room. And then another employee bashing the firat one when i went to check in for my second room and telling me thats not how it works. False information. The elevator made very weird noises the entire time and was very shakey. Clearly needed to be inspected. I booked two rooms, one of which ended up being decent enough not to complain much about. The other on the other hand was a suite. Our first room had ripped up wall paper, the bunk beds leaning and crooked. Room was not properly cleaned and just was veryyyy small for a family room. We then got moved to another room. When we walked in there was a huge puddle of water on the ground because someone had put the a/c on 60!!! No towels in our room to even clean the mess. Worn out windows that dont even open. Not cleaned at all. Very worn down room. Broken handle in the shower. We were told there was no housekeeping and suddenly someone was opening our door the next morning. When i made a comment the lady at the front told me they dont come in unless i fill something out at the frobt. Which i didnt, but she was still counteracting what i was saying…which is not safe. People should not be coming into my room without my knowledge. They stated there was a fitness center and roof too sitting area. When my sister asked the front deak they said they didnt have that and that they “lied” online. Which is completely not cool. All this said, in this terrible very boisey hotel with terrible rude staff i only got one night refunded for one room as courtesy. Out of the 5 nights per room that i paid for.
The majority of the people who work in this hotel are not welling to help you. Some of them are not friendly and the room was too too small! The only thing that deserves for me to rate them two stars is their location that is near to the Times Square. Go and find another hotel to spend good time NYC!
Horrible experience. I stayed there in July for a weekend in NYC and my hotel room got robbed. The person next door hopped from her balcony to mine on the 13th floor, broke into my room and stole all of my belongings. She took my luggage and jump back into her luggage. Fortunately I wasn’t there when this all happened and this was all caught on camera by a random person across the street who first thought the person was committing suicide until they realized they were just robbing the hotel room. That person informed the hotel and police was called to the scene, the person was taken into custody. However it’s been over 5weeks later and I have yet to receive a refund for my hotel stay,I have yet to receive a compensation for my missing items. It honestly was such a scary experience and let alone Our whole weekend was ruined. I would not recommend this hotel. They do not care about their customers and their safety.
Positive: Not at all. Negative: The front desk staff were not friendly or helpful. The room is very small. The bathroom space is very limited. It is not easy to use the restroom. Also, there was a fly flying in the room. It took me a while to catch it. It is a very big fly.
There was a USED crack pipe in our room when we checked in and went into the room. The room was 80% clean- given that it was NYC and midtown, I gave them the benefit of the doubt. But A USED CRACK PIPE? Comical. Also, I reported it to the front desk immediately to TWO different people and no one got it out of our room. Then, I told the front desk AGAIN to please get it out, no one got it out. 30 hours later- someone finally got it out. Honestly, might have been an employees (the cleaners) if it was left in the room.... When we checked out, someone took my name, number, and email down for the manager to get back to me and no one did (its been a week). Since my stay, Ive called twice and no answer or a response.
Rooms lacked basic amenities like a mini fridge or closet space. Also the AC needs serious improvements. I had better AC in barracks used for Deseret Storm in Kuwait as a lower enlisted soldier. When I informed the clerk of this (more tactfully) I was treated like it was my fault because I didn’t ask for a new room in the middle of the night.
Id give it less than a 1 if I could. Checked in, couldnt get in the room because the batteries were dead for the door lock. Finally get in and the room is horrendous. Broken outlets with wires exposed, partially painted areas still had painters tape up, beds literally falling apart. Strange substances on the wall, and this was suppose to be a premium room. A Motel 6 in a backwoods town is better than this place and literally 1/4 the price.
Super convenient location, and a very attractive facade. That said, the staff here is overall VERY rude. In advance of our stay, we called to confirm the reservation and were hung up on—not once, but twice. Finally after the third call we were able to confirm a regular room with two double beds...but then were told at check-in we had no option but to upgrade to a suite. The suite itself was tiny and tidy—but lacked a microwave, a coffee maker (despite having coffee packets?), AND any more than half a roll of toilet paper. At one point we asked for a map that we knew to be behind the desk, as we’d already gotten one before (but lost it) from another staff person and even directed the lady where to look and she told us to find one somewhere else “or come look yourself”. Ran into another person staying at the Gallivant whom had tried to check in at 3pm, but the room was not available to them for another 3 hours. Much to be desired from the experience, and disappointed in the stay here. At this point, there isn’t much I can say in the Gallivant’s favor except to say it’s conveniently located and Cassandra is the most helpful and personable staff member we encountered. Wouldn’t recommend if there are available alternatives.
If I could give 0 I would. Rooms are tiny, the walls are dirty and you can tell they just paint over. Closet is tiny, cant open it completely since it crashes the bed. No mini fridge, no microwave! The TV doesnt have netflix option so we tried hooking up a firestick only for them to tell us they disabled that function. The front desk never picks up, ac is busted. Dont come here.
I just want to start by saying the man at the front desk was disgustingly rude, he did not say one word to me while I was checking in. He said give me your debit card and license. I booked through orbitz and gave him my card for incidentals which was 100$. I checked my bank statements that night and he charged me 260$?!!!!!! I tried calling from my room 5 times and no answer. I went down and he said incidentals was 200$ and I said there’s no way I am jsut staying a night. He said oh sorry it’s 100$. I said you charged me 260 for incidentals. He proceeded to tell me he didn’t. I showed him my bank statement which said gallivant hotel atm which was super sketchy. He said OH I charged you that on accident. Our keyboard types in the wrong things sometimes. He told me it would be back on my account the next day. It’s been a week and the refund is not on my account. Not to mention my room was 90 degrees you cannot out the thermostat down. I had the worst experience. The hallways are gross, don’t go here. Horrible customer service
Hidden fees all over the place. For example $50 early check in fee on top of them not holding luggage for their customers is just ridiculous.Rooms are pretty much tiny too.Great location, literally on Times Square, but honestly Id never stay here again. Very trashy place.
Horrible. Dont waste your money. My husband booked and he didnt check the reviews. We got into a room that had no AC, no coffee maker, a full size bed when we reserved and paid for a queen. The shower flooded the bathroom because there is no separation.Dont do it. Go somewhere else
They wanted $50 plus tax to store our suitcase 3 hrs before check-in (3:00pm). The ol’ no room service/ daily cleaning and gym was closed “due to COVID”. I think it’s an excuse for most things… How long will they be riding this one out? The deluxe room was still very small. A/C worked really well, and the bed was soft. The lady at the front desk was very unhelpful borderline combative.
We were supposed to have a king suite, but got a queen. We were too tired to complain. Check in was at 3pm, but there was literally no one working until 3pm on the dot. But overall, the staff was friendly, the beds and pillows were comfy, and its in a great location. Defintely worth the visit!
The concierge was so rude it was comical. He was very mad that he had to set his phone aside while I asked him a question. He could not answer a single question we asked. He also informed us that we could not check in until 3. It was 2:50. We had to sit and wait until exactly 3. There were TONS of hidden fees on our bill. Will not stay again. Definitely wouldnt recommend to others.
Soso... clean yes. The room is super tiny! Not enough space for 2 people. No rugs on a floor. Very dark walls(grey paint). Some lamps in our room didn’t work. Well, it’s ok place if you come just to sleep. They take $100 deposit. Definitely won’t be back. For same money you can get way better & bigger comfortable room in this area with a view.
Very rude! Had someone trying to get into our room last night, the guy at the receptionist area was not helpful, they do not have security cameras in the hallways, said nothing can be done! He just shrugged it off! DEFINITELY DO NOT RECOMMEND, HORRIBLE SERVICE, HORRIBLE SECURITY!! NEVER STAYING HERE AGAIN!
The gallivant was a nice hotel the rooms were small but its New York so that was expected. We found the room to be clean and the air conditioner almost froze us out the first night. Yes the elevators are a little slow but the building is an older building so it is almost like a boutique hotel without any frills. The staff was nice and tell this how to get around the city. We took our own sheets just so we would know what to expect. Overall I think it was a good hotel and would stay there again.
The location of the hotel is excellent, you can get to Times Square within 2 minutes of walking. The lobby looks modern and clean however I cannot say the same for the rooms. When we first arrived, our room was ready however when we got there the room was dirty and the bedding was not made. The reception did resolve this by relocating us to a different room, the receptionist did not apologise for this and told my partner that they recently been having issues with house keeping staff and describing them as argumentative or lazy. This should be dealt with internally. We got to our room eventually and our impressions was average. It looked dated, the TV was OK. The shower facilities was below average as finding the correct temperature for the shower proven to be a task. I also noticed that there was also slight damage on the bathroom floor. Lastly, Our heater/air condition was possibly defective as we would adjust the settings but nothing would change.Basic hotel, good location but not very likely to stay again.
I’m extremely disappointed in my experience with this hotel. I was traveling from Australia and due to covid unable to make this trip. Out of all my accommodation booked the gallivant is the only hotel who will not issue me a refund. There is no clear picture on when Australians will safely be allowed to travel, I also have a family member at risk health wise who I will not put in danger by traveling and the gallivant would prefer to not care and continues to withhold money for a booking that never took place. Really disgusted in your poor service and lack of consideration!
We dropped off our bags early and the staff was really nice and accommodating. The ambiance of the hotel is nice and the rooms were well kept and clean. The room was even bigger than expected considering its a NYC hotel. No view, but we didnt pay for one or expect one. My only complaint is that the walls are way too thin. My boyfriend and I woke up several times in the middle of the night to other guests slamming their doors. Overall a good stay, but maybe not for light sleepers.
So We stayed here on New years Eve and day, room was comfortable, clean , with all basic necessities for an overnight stay. I chose the penthouse just to experience a bit of the festivities. Great for AA party of 4 or 6 at rooftop. There is no bar, yet there is a tasteful Restaurant next on lobby not own by hotel. Staff was friendly and helpful. Thanks for the attention I see myself in the future here...
Stayed at the Gallivant before, not a bad hotel. Nothing amazing about the rooms etc. The best thing about it is the location. Literally on Times Square, down the road from the Central Park. Been to a lot of places, New York is amazing. If you’re looking for a cheaper hotel just as a base while exploring the city, this isn’t a bad choice
2/14/2021 weekendNothing like the pictures.Horrible parking.Room didn’t even fit 2 people.. the receptionist was pretty rude to another customer that was behind us. Had to wait an extra 20 mins to check in because they “ didn’t have a reservation “ for me up until they looked over and had to print over the documents.. I truly didn’t even stay the night because of how the room was! Wasn’t even able to take a few steps with out bumping into something. Would not recommend. They also never refunded me the holding fee up until a week later and that’s only because I had to call! Just not a good experience over all. Great for being around the corner from time square but not for a good stay!
We went on November 28th and just reserved the room on a whim. But the service was excellent and rooms were beautifully maintained and cleaned. They even offered us a late check out as a courtesy because we checked in close to 5 pm. I would definitely stay here again.
My my my this place is so full of lies when I booked the website told me they were deep cleaning and taking covid precautions etc. (Lie) The description for the room said a view was included (Lie). I attached pictures from outside my window. The sheets had stains and the closet had dead bugs (roaches). The family bathroom doesnt even come with a bathtub just a stand up shower without a door or curtain. I am more than mortified with my experience not to mention they accidently put a hold for $500 instead of $200 on my credit card. The elevators are small and you dont need a hotel key to get in one and ride it to whichever floor you want. how dangerous is that? being right near Times square and all. I tried to call to get information before I arrived and they were extremely rude over the phone. I got the family suite which was a bit pricey per night and after seeing how dirty and unkept it was Im happy I didnt check in with my children I do not recommend this hotel at all I ended up staying at a different one. Heads up a refrigerator is included in all suites only but no microwave is included at all. Something to think about. Safe travels.
Worst place....We decided to book this hotel based on the pictures posted in hotel.com. The room we booked was a multiple view delux room. There was only one window similar to a bathroom window, no refrigerator, no microwave, and no floor space to walk if you keep your baggage. We immediately canceled our booking and moved in to another hotel. Rating: 0/5
Guys, please, dont consider this place, you can spoil your vacation. Awful rooms, I checked in earlier, paid extra 50 bucks, when I stepped into room, I was shocked - dirty and tiny closet. I requested to change the room, it was a little bit better, but still. Overpriced place. I canceled my reservation and moved to other place.
Front desk staff midday were very impolite. They wanted us to get a private shuttle to the airport. We asked about the public shuttle bus, and they were very rude. Even if that is the company policy (to not notify anyone about the public shuttle), the tone and disrespect was not appropriate. Otherwise, our stay was great. Someone else was very helpful about the public shuttle, and we made it to our destination just fine.
The room looks nothing like the pictures! It is sooo small. I booked this hotel because it was in Times Square and it was my boyfriends birthday so I figured it would be a great location and decent hotel to stay at. Boy was I WRONG. It has no fridge, microwave or coffee maker. The floor looked like someone was murdered in it (Red patch on floor) The bathroom was so small you could barely turn in it. It had a small skinny wall in closet. The heater made noise every now and then throughout the night. The sheets didnt look like they were washed it (They had little hairs on it) We tried to plug in our firestick to the tv to watch movies but it wouldnt work even though there was an option to do so. The tv program guide didnt show what was on tv so you had to flip to every channel to find what was on. They also gave us the wifi password but their wifi didnt show up on the tv so we couldnt use any apps on the tv either. It was just a very underwhelming and bad stay. WORST HOTEL Ive stayed in. Would only stay here if I had to because of the location.
After reading a few not so awesome reviews I was a bit concerned about my nonrefundable booking, however I was pleasantly surprised by everything. The gentleman that I encountered at the front desk was more than helpful and pleasant, our family room was clean and very accommodating for our family of 6...which is nearly impossible to find usually. The location was awesome for sightseeing. It was near a fire station, so there were a few times we heard trucks, but it is NYC, if you are expecting silence...go visit Montana or something.
On the first night, we did not get the twin room with patio we had paid for. Instead, they put us in a tiny room with a king sized bed and a disgusting view and a loud airconditioning that we could not switch off. We talked to other people who also mentioned they had been put in the wrong room. So this is common practice at the Gallivant. Then, we were switched to our twin room, but the patio was not accessible. They reimbursed us 10 euros a night for this. Also, the rooms look very different than on the website. They are extremely small. False advertising. The hotel is not clean either. The cleaning staff does not clean certain areas. For instance, the area under the bed does not get cleaned. It was really dusty and filthy. Also, the walls in the bathroom do not get cleaned. There were several little hairs attached to the bathroom door. The staff also does not fill up the toilet paper. Very annoying! You dont want to worry about having toilet paper at night when booking a 4 star hotel. The shower is not easy to use, as you cannot choose how much water youre getting. You can only choose the temperature. The most filthy part of the hotel is probably the gym. I have never seen gym equipment look this disgusting. The treadmill looks like it has never been cleaned: there are so many sweat drops and filth on it. Also, two of the three gym devices, including the treadmill, did not even work... They charge you 2 dollars a suitcase to keep your bag for a couple of hours after check-out. Ridiculous.Lastly, and probably the most annoying part of our stay, were the elevators. There are only three elevators at the Gallivant, one of which never works. At certain moments, around 10 am for example, the cleaning staff blocks two of the three elevators, so theres only 1... Once, it took us more than 15 minutes to get down from the 13th floor. After that, we always just took the stairs...Dont waste your money on this hotel.
When I was there, I was with over 100 peope, I dont have a lot to complain about. The front desk staff were very pleasant, and the doormen helped even my large group. Depending on what room you have, because there is a huge variety of rooms, they can be small or very large. They are dated, but have modern touches. If you are a clean freak make sure you walk in with an open mind, the cleaning staff could use a few new people. There was trash from previous guests, the floor needed to be swept and we were missing a remote. As soon as I told the front desk, I told them I was leaving, and when I got back it was clean. Nice place and a good price for the distance to Times Square.
So lets start with what really killed this for me: the beds. We wanted a double room. Instead of having two full size beds, we received two twin beds. This wouldnt be a problem, but the beds were more like cots than actual beds. They were even on wheels. Secondly, they made noise with every movement. I cant stress this enough, they were LOUD. The mattresses are hard as hell, no give to them at all. So of course I woke up every morning with a sore back and little sleep. On the subject of having trouble sleeping, we could hear everyone coming onto our floor from the elevator as if they were in our room with us. No mini fridge or microwave in the room, but it wasnt a big deal. Elevators are slow and incredibly small, they have a limit of 7 and you will wait a long time. Now for the good: Nice bathroom, especially for a small one. Spacious shower and heated mirrors so they dont fog up. However I wish this would have been spent on the bed rather than something so insignificant. Location is great, nearby to times square and a short walk to most sites. All in all, my stay could have been much better.
The staff is not friendly at all. The rooms are small and not clean. Lifts are slow and when the staff have to use them they block them for quite a while before youre allowed to use it (imagine you wanna reach the 11th floor..). The bathroom was incredibly small and the shower had no curtains. The air con system was the only big thing there.. noisy and occupied so much space it was difficult to find a spot to put the baggages (plus there was no wardrobe, only an 80x60 thing with not enough space not even for coats). The only good thing about this hotel is the location: very close to everything so if you like to walk you almost dont need the public transport.
Location was great!! staff okay, a/c didn’t really work well, hairdryer was missing and front desk insisted it was there even though it wasn’t (lol) and didn’t bring us one or offer to. (Lol) Mini little cube refrigerator didn’t really ever get cold. ( not something they would fix ) Bathroom and room clean. Need a shower curtain!!!! we stayed in a family style room and I get the open concept but when your sharing bathroom with 5 people really inconvenient( shower and toilet in large size bathroom but no curtain so single use ) Over all , for the location and price safe and fine. If your not real picky on sleeping temp you’ll be okay. We had 3 rooms for out group , one room they froze, ours was warm, other was hot. Beds And pillows comfortable not perfect but reasonable. Older hotel, convinced positive, clean, don’t expect help from staff, for the price a good deal / not the ritz but nice. Felt safe.
Took a trip in November with a group, rented 2 hotel rooms on 2 different floors. The hotel was very hot, no working thermostat in the building. Refrigerator did not work. Front desk employees dont speak English well, Manager did not speak english at all. Zero communication. Front desk said they fixed the thermostats and the refrigerators. Got back nothing was fixed. Maintenance man said he never came in our rooms and they never asked him to fix anything. Stayed at 80 degrees in the rooms and the hallways, not a comfortable way to sleep. Gave 2 stars because the locks on the doors did work and the toilets did flush. Better than nothing.
Bad hotel, towels and bed sheets arent cleaned: they were white but they smell as used by somebody for a lot of time. The air conditioner was very very noisy; it started every half hour, and in night every time i had to wake up...Out from the window there was the central air conditioner machine that made an incredible noise. Windows are so old and the cold came in through the cracks.Last day, for leaving our travel bags just for 6-7 hours in the warehouse hotel, we had to pay 2$ for each. Never known similar ways in other hotels. There were 2 lift, but just one was on for all people in the hotel: we had to wait a lot of time in front of the lift door and when the lift arrived, it was always full, so i usually forced to go by stairway. The cleaning ladies were kind and they cleaned well the rooms.Positive note: Its was very good for distance from times Square, the hotel is central.I think I will never come back.
We stayed here previously and enjoyed it. Booked again and we were not impressed. Our deluxe queen room was the size of a wardrobe, we were placed in a room next to an ice machine and were kept up all night by drunk people getting ice. The machine broke at 5 am and began beeping. As a result, we got very little sleep. Our bathroom was tiny and the door scraped the sink and the toilet each time it opened. Shower leaked all over the floor. Elevators were tiny and completely non-functional so we had to walk the stairs. Was not worth the cost.
Overall, the experience was mediocre. The location is great, but the hotel itself was a disappointment. We had to finish cleaning the room ourselves on the first night, but luckily the housekeeping cart was just sitting in the hall so we had the supplies we needed. From furniture to vinyl flooring, the entire room was in disrepair. It seems like a nice boutique hotel online, but it isnt. Its a somewhat-below-average hotel with a nice lobby and well-designed logo. This will be my last choice the next time I visit NYC, but ultimately the location makes up for a lot.
Tldr: this hotel is in a really bad shape, but considering its low price and perfect location, I would have chosen it again. The tiny room was clean, the hotel has a beatiful modern design and as I said - perfect location for a very low price. On the other side, this hotel is falling apart. One of our rooms locks broke down and fell when we tried to use it, and all of the locks looked liked they were picked sometime. Some of the elevators didnt work a lot of time.. The reception stuff were extremely not nice! When we checked in, they asked for my card, put it in the charging machine and didnt explain anything! Just gave us the room key and asked us to take the elevator. Was I charged? Was this for some kind of deposit? I has to find out myself later on.
Hotel was in the perfect spot and that’s all there is positive to say really, I’ve attached an image of the hidden fees we had to pay $34.42 per night and we were here for 9 so was charged just shy of $310 and they even kept the change. View from the room was awful and could hear a generator/ac unit on all the time. If you’re looking to book here I would avoid at all costs as it’ll cost you an arm and a leg.
Fantastic location, beautiful hotel and the staff very friendly and helpful. All fees where disclosed at the time of booking and there where no surprises on check out. Absolutely recommend it. Walking distance from Hop on-Hop off buses. Just extremely convenient location. Keep in mind sq. footage in NY is expensive so all hotels and apartments are small compared with other places, so rooms are small, but overall still a very good size and modern décor. Beautiful!
This room is a good base - location works but the standard rooms are on the small side - nothing not advertised but if like me you look at ft measurement in the info and think thats fine.... they are small! Maid service was great clean towels every day etc. Biggest downside was the lifts there are 3 but only 2 seem to ever work and it took several minutes on a few occasions to leave the building. Cheap for the area however being in times square. Tip - Head over to 9th Avenue for such great food and bars!
The hotel looks nice coming in. Great location but thats it. The room door was dodgy, shower fan didnt work and hung off the ceiling. The paint job looked like it was done by a 5 year old. The lights in the ceiling buzzed when on. Slept with our suitcase infront of the door as it opened an inch or so every time another door on our floor opened. The paint was peeling of the bathroom ceiling probably cos there was no working extractor fan. So much attention to detail that could of made my rating better. Oh yeah and when I showed the pictures and explained it I was asked if I mentioned it. To which I said no, she said we have engineers, etc. I reminded her that an engineer may have fixed the fan, they would of needed a painting and decorating crew and to re-seal the tiles etc. I was only refunded 30 dollars which was a mandatory service hotel charge of 137 dollars, so I paid just over 100 dollars what a joke, should of paid nothing
For the price that we paid, the room was absolutely horrendous. They spend way too much money on the lobby design and not the room. Elevators have a maximum capacity of 7 people, feels like a coffin. The rooms are even smaller. The bed is small as well. I am a fairly tall woman and my feet were hanging off the bed and it was so uncomfortable to sleep. Floors were sticky as if something was spilled or sprayed and never cleaned up. Bathrooms were small as well. Shower did not have door to completely close the shower. It was half glass open at the back where water got everywhere. Room was awfully dim with lights. They require a 25$/night service fee and “resort hotel-imposed” fee. Ridiculous.
Honestly I came to New York to visit New York not stay in my bedroom. The room was lovely for a three night adventure. One recommendation that knocked them from five stars was a lack of a microwave in the ADA rooms( inserts frown face). However, the location is perfect
Be prepared to pay an extra $34.42 per night for your stay. I was unaware that they have an urban fee for each night on top of the nightly rate which would have definitely changed my mind about choosing this hotel. Other than that, the rooms are pretty standard for what you would get in downtown NYC. Their rooms are pretty small so make sure to bring smaller luggage so that you may still have some space to move around inside your room. The bathrooms are smaller than average as well. Although the bathroom has a glass partition between the shower and the toilet, water is pretty much guaranteed to enter the other side when taking a shower. Wifi is also highly unreliable regardless of when you use it. The gym is also the smallest I have seen out of all the hotels Ive stayed in that has one. It is supposedly included with the additional fee. The treadmill is definitely falling apart. The weights are also very limited. One of the good things about the hotel is that it is very close to Times Square which is about a 5-minute walk. There are also two restaurants connected to the hotel.
This hotel has a great location. And the lady at the reception for our check out was extremely nice. For the rest run away.Rooms are tiny and super expensive. There is a supplement tax that is not detailed in the booking price. Furthermore if you unlucky enough to have a room in the 3rd floor, as we did, forget about sleeping. The heating system is just out the window and it feels like sleeping near a truck. I never had such a bed experience in a 4 star hotel. Very disappointed, Wil never come here again.
The staff was nice, the location is good, literally up the street from M&M world. The room was hot, the A/C didnt work and the heat continued to blew in the first room that I was given. They moved me to a second room and it was the same. Someone was sent to the room to fix it but it wasnt, I just slept with the window open. Restroom super small and cramped.
I stayed at the hotel from Thursday to Sunday. Check in was effortless and housekeeping was good. The single room was spacious and clean. My only issue was the shower which when turned on wet the bathroom floor. The big selling point is that the hotel is centrally located to Broadway theaters and Times Square, I was able to walk to my destinations the whole time here.
The staff was friendly and it was a good location. But the room was very small and there were a lot of little bugs (probably gnats) in the shower. It was gross. When we arrived to our room for the first day the window was open, without a screen on it. We got a good price on this place because we used Hotwire. But I would never pay over $130/night for this hotel.
We checked into the hotel and it was a breeze but later on that night we were called and told we were given the wrong room and we didn’t realize. They were not going to make us move but said they would discount the rate 30 dollars a night. It sounded great but then I realized I had booked a deluxe king room with more square footage but I was in a room with a double bed and less square footage so them taking 30 dollars off the price of the king room I paid for barely was a deal for being forced into a double bed. I went to the desk and they had no more rooms available that night but offered another 30 dollars a night off. Overall it’s a nice hotel and friendly staff but I did not get what I booked or what I paid for.
Great location but everything else was not great. The rooms had very few amenities (no fridge, no kettle, only one chair), the bed was uncomfortable, the airconditioning loud. However the staff were the worst part of this hotel experience. Want to be woken up at 7am by rude cleaning staff gossiping outside your door and trying to service your room despite a do not disturb sign? It happened every morning.
Very clean and all basic needs covered, room and bed very small. Hidden charges - we booked third party and had to pay a large amount in resort fees when we arrived $50 per night for gym use etc that we never asked for or used. Had to pay to leave our luggage in the hold when checking out also.
Incredibly friendly staff, very clean, however.....broken elevators the entire time we were there, be prepared to wait 30-45 min to get an elevator to your floor, and even if one arrives, it will be full, because all the floors have the same issue. When I spoke to several staff members, they indicated that one elevator had been broken for some time, one was reserved for staff, and the third was turned off...leaving one elevator to service the entire hotel, when I addressed the issue with the manager, Rob, he did not seem concerned about the fire/safety/health issue, he only responded with “the elevator broke 2 days ago and I’m having the motor rebuilt” which was clearly not true, several staff told me it had been out for several says. It was incredibly frustrating trying to get anywhere on a schedule when you had no idea if you would be able to get an elevator. Would not stay here again due to the managers lack of concern for the health and well being of his guests.
My friend got me a nights stay in the fitness King room for my birthday and it was amazing! The staff were so nice, they gave me a complimentary breakfast and late checkout because of my birthday. I was able to do a little workout on the equipment in the room and the bed was very comfortable. I also loved the bathroom despite the small size. Only downsides were size of the room, which is to be expected because Manhattan! And the TV was quite outdated. I would stay here again and again and I recommend it. Prettiest hotel lobby!
Good location but thats about it. Room small, bathroom ridiculously small, can hardly sit on the toilet. Staff were rude and unhelpful. We were woken at 9am on our last day by housekeeping wanting to clean our room and they werent even polite- they were banging on our door and everyone on our floor waking everyone up. We informed front desk of this on check out and they did nothing to compensate for this. The floor smelt of cigarette smoke, the lifts were so small and slow it gave you a headache everytime you had to do it.They charge to hold your bags for a couple of hours even if youve spent $$$ staying at the hotel and simply have a late flight.Overall, wouldnt stay there again on any circumstance. Dont do it to yourself. I have worked for hotels and this was just crazy, they cant meet basic customer service requirements.
Very friendly staff. Lifts intermittently slow. Shower had duct tape on and was leaking and we reported it but never repaired. Lots of tiny flies in the bathroom and on the window! Never got an outside line on the phone despite reporting it and being told it would be fixed by 8am. Exhaust fan in bathroom wasnt working and got fixed very quickly but came on every time you walked near it and it was very noisy! Comfortable bed and good housekeeping.
We had gross air humidity in our room and the walls and the ground were always moist. our 2 rooms were not separated by a door which was very unpleasant. the location of the hotel seems to be shadowed by surrounding buildings because our room was always dark no matter the time of day. But it was very clean, we had 2 TVs, the beds were comfortable and our rooms were cleaned every day.
Small room but as to be expected for New York. Very warm despite the -5°C weather outside. Staff very friendly and accommodating - it feels a lot more personal than other New York hotels I have stayed in. Location very central - especially to a lot of Broadway shows. There are two theatres on the same street and from the room I was in could sometimes hear the noise from stage door in the evening. Considering how close this hotel is to time square its not super noisy and seems to quieten down a lot in the evening. Theres no room service but there are two linked restaurants on each side of the hotel l. We tried the Japanese one - reasonably priced, good food and big portions.
I stayed at the Gallivant August 16-18 weekend and I was not impressed the room looked nothing like the pictures it was tiny and dingy looking and definitely in need of upgrades. The wall had chips and nicks on them the shower is small and so was the bed which was a full size bed ( my boyfriend is 6’3 255 pounds ) we tried to get an upgrade but to no avail. Not to mention our bed was stained the hallways smelled musty and two people walked into our room in the middle of the night and I was mortified.
An Eco-Lodge disguised as a boutique hotel in Times Square. We checked in at 1am, and after we settled into room #215, we realized the A/C was broken and the temp in the room was 79 degrees. After calling the front desk several times to not get an answer I walked down and asked what was up. I forgot to tell you that the air conditioning on the second and third floor is undergoing maintenance. I received a box fan (yes, in the picture) to get us through the night. I was also told no rooms were available at the time. The next morning we were magically able to be placed in a Premium Room which was 1. A bigger room and 2. Had functional air conditioning but there were other things that made me wonder how much effort is being made beyond facade that is the hotel appearance. Dusty air vents and a shower curtain rod that was literally hanging off the wall. I spoke to a manager over the phone who comp-ed me the urban fee for the entire stay amounting to only 10% of what I paid upon reservation (Im complaining until I get the first night 100% comp-ed) but he seemed to be receptive to the complaints and committed to fixing them: Were aware of the house we live in.At least the beds were comfortable. Youre taking a huge risk staying here. No way Id recommend The Gallivant to anyone.
Perfect location. Rooms are larger than they appear in the online photos. Breakfast was tasty and by pre-paying for 4 mornings we got a great deal. All staff were friendly and helpful. A scale is available to weigh your luggage at the end of your trip. Airport transfers can be booked with the concierge at cheaper-than-taxi rates. Would definitely stay here again.
Stayed here two day visit. Location was excellent. There was nothing that made this hotel extraordinarily good or bad. Room size is pretty small. Somethings are outdated. The other reviews about the heat, the drain flies, and hidden fees are true. The stars are definitely in reference to location
Just came back from a great stay at TRYP in Times Square. My favorite thing about this hotel is its location. Right off of Broadway in Times Square! The hotel itself is also very nice. The lobby is very appealing and everything is new/modern looking. My room was reasonably clean upon my arrival and everything in my room was working. The room was a bit small but it was a perfect size for my girlfriend and I on a weekend trip. The price was also very reasonable for the hotels location. My only complaint is that the elevators are very small so it takes a while to get up to your room using those.I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a reasonably priced modern and comfortable stay in Times Square.
Rooms were advertised and indicated newly renovated and looked beautiful, so I booked a room. I paid for 2 double beds for $250 PLUS a $50 deposit. We checked in, out room looks like its in Camden. Painted on top of paint. Extremely small. You cant move in the bathroom. No shower curtain, floor gets soaked. Hair all over the walls. Bathroom shower floor was slimy. Awful view of a broken down building. NEVER going again. Dont believe what you see. And they dont care. Not to mention check in is 3.. our room wasnt ready until 330.
They put us into a dark and dirty room that overlooked a wall and generator because they said they didn’t have two beds above the 2nd floor...We went right downstairs and complained and another woman put us on the 7th floor with two beds? LOL what? There was plastic wrap on the windows in this new room but whatever. The worst part was that someone entered our room after we left in the morning and left our door open all day with all of our items inside until we returned 8 hours later in the evening. We complained and now there is an ongoing investigation into housekeeping. They think it’s housekeeping but it could be a security issue too. Either way. Our room was left open all day.Unacceptable.

2022-05-30Perfect hotel for a trip to Manhattan. Jose took care of us, we had a delayed flight and tickets to a show. He was accommodating, friendly and understanding. We checked in our hotel room in within a few minutes. It was a perfect location, walking distance to all the shows/time square. They have a really fun club/bar attached to the hotel that played really good music. The decor has a trendy city vibe. The staff is friendly, the hotel room is comfy and clean. The price was reasonable. I would highly recommend staying here.

2022-06-24This is an excellent hotel for an affordable stay in the Times Square area. They have family rooms w bunk beds, nicely sized singles and premium rooms. The staff is what makes this place shine. One morning the shower handle broke off, I’m an incredibly strong person so it was all my fault 😂. Told the staff, went to breakfast and came back and it was fixed. Can’t ask for more than that. They also offer early and late check out for an affordable fee for those arriving early or leaving late. I’ll definitely be staying here again.

2022-06-16We had 4 adults and 2 kids and stayed in the family room which is up on the highest floor, 15. It has a nice view of the city and has 2 comfortable queen beds along with 2 bunk twin beds. Not a ton of space but it makes the most of it and the rooms were clean and the staff were very nice and went above and beyond to make sure we were accommodated. The room didnt have enough outlets though and one was broken. Im not sure if you can control the AC or not, which I saw was a gripe in some other reviews, because it was pumping out cold air and had the room at a comfortable temp for us so I didnt even try to mess with it. I didnt hear any noise from any other rooms but they may have heard us because we have 2 loud kids. Honestly, this place was a great deal, around $240, and the location couldnt be better. I highly recommend it.

2022-05-22Wish I could give zero stars! This hotel was horrible and one of the worse experiences ever! My husband and I arrive to New York for our honeymoon and we’re so excited to arrive to our hotel and begin our week long adventure in New York. Well when we checked in and go up to our room we opened the door and the first thing we noticed was that the room was far too small and run down! It was nothing like what we had seen in the pictures! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THE PICTURES HERE!!! The latch on the door was loose, the furniture was beat down, no refrigerator like stated in there amenities, the A/C unit didn’t work, the shower had no door or anything dividing it from the toilet or the rest of the bathroom so everything for wet when I used the shower. There was no mirror in the bathroom either and worse of all the bed was way way way too small!!! We had booked a room with a queen bed, and I know what a queen bed looks like and that was not it! We both decided that staying there was just not going to be a good experience for us, we stayed the night because it was too late but checked out first thing the next morning and stayed in a Hilton around the corner that was perfect!! DON’T stay here!!!

2022-04-24Stayed 4/17-23/2022 for Springbreak! Very close to everything! Rooms were nice, decent and clean! Staff were nice and friendly! We got 2 rooms for the price of one in other hotels that I checked! We had a coffee maker in our room which was all that we needed… not a fan of microwave and refrigerators (weren’t in our room) since family always want fresh food… lots of food around NYC to try! Bathrooms were clean! We slept in through the night after long walks exploring the city during the day! May have smelled weed along the hallways but weed’s all over NYC y’all… it’s legal 😂 didn’t bother us! Definitely will go back in this hotel!!! ❤️ EXCELLENT! ❤️ Saved lots of money in this hotel to spend on our tours and food!

2022-03-08Positive: Upon arriving, I had to switch rooms 2 times due to cleanliness issues. Room1: glob of human hair on the desk Room2: sunglasses (not mine)by bed in site, comforter stained I would write more, but limited. Room3 was fine, but will not stay here again. Negative: The cleanliness, just not there at all. Felt gross. Also, they did not refund my early check in fee, even though I had to switch rooms due to cleanliness issues. The staff didnt seem to bat an eye with these complaints either, which is scary.

2022-01-03The Gallivant is an old hotel, and the rooms are small. If you want 5 stars, there are other hotels for you. If you want the best value in Times Square, the Gallivant doesnt disappoint. I dont love the elevators, but the rooms are renovated and thoughtfully laid out. Theres a relatively inexpensive Japanese restaurant in the hotel and lots of great food choices nearby. Try the chicken at Ho Ho Te! Its cheap and delicious.

2022-03-24To start, rude staff at front desk. Our room was not very clean and was in disrepair. Huge crack in the bathroom ceiling, cracked sink, and cracked toilet tank. Whenever someone took a shower, it completely soaked the bathroom floor. The lock on the room door was completely broken in half.We were on the 12th floor. Every time someone took the elevator, we could hear a noise similar to someone dragging furniture across the floor. This happened CONSTANTLY through the night. Room air conditioner was not good so the room stayed quite stuffy. Bunk bed ladder was broken and needed replaced. There were six of us, yet there were only two bath towels provided. When I asked front desk for more towels, I was notified they only had two towels available. TWO…in the entire hotel. The only positives were comfortable beds and the hotel’s proximity to Times Square. It’s literally a couple minute walk away.Thankfully we only stayed here one night.

2022-04-02Very close to everything. Walking distance to many attractions if you dont mind walking. We had a family room and it was very spacious, very large bathroom for downtown New York. Tons of eateries around to include the two restaurants attached to the hotel. Cleaning Service was very kind, helpful and polite. Guest Services were Amazing, Funny, and welcoming and even made checking out easy. They even offered to call a cab to the airport. There is overnight parking across the street for extra fee. If you have a large SUV like we do, park on 55 w 46th overnight again for extra fee.Can call to get the parking reservation address and find the closest and cheapest.

2022-06-19Truly disappointing. The street noise was intense and being on the 4th floor we could hear all that New York had to offer. The windows seemed to do little to muffle anything including the weather. We booked a family room and it was just as the pictures showed but many ...many years ago. Worn-out is the best I can do to describe this hotel; oh lets not forget unclean, black mold in the bathrooms, and peeling paint everywhere. Except for the location this was one of our worst hotel stays to date.
