Well.. I didn’t want to stay there as I live close by but wanted to get massage. I tried 6 times to get through and no one answered throughout the day. Booking online is a nightmare not user friendly at all. I desperately tried calling front desk to have someone call me and was on hold for 10 minutes and hung up. I called back and some cackling idiot answered the phone laughing and yelling at someone else. You answer a business line like that? I asked for manager and was put on hold for another 12 minutes and hung up. Called back and was put straight to leave a message. For which I’m sure I won’t get call back. Embarrassed this is where I live.
If I could do below one star I would. I am currently waiting for over an hour for my 11:30 reservation for easter brunch. You would think having a reservation means you have a table ready, we’ll this was not the case for me nor the over 50 people waiting in the lobby as well. The view of the dining room was visible along with over 20 open tables throughout. They also informed we only have about 30 mins to get food due to their delay in seating us. No communication from management nor percentage off for this delay. Terrible experience.
Nice hotel that harkens back to the older days of Saratoga being a resort and spa town. The location cant be beat, especially if you are enjoying a spa day or golfing. We stayed here because it allowed us to walk directly from the hotel to SPAC to see a concert. Parking is easy and included directly on the hotel grounds so we didnt have to worry about the hassle of getting back out after the show. Rooms are bit dated, but they have a nice big screen TV and good comfortable beds.
Lovely old hotel that has a presence of days gone by. It was clean, older and quirky elevator but overall, I enjoyed it. The location is perfect. In a quiet and tranquil state park. Dog friendly so my children were able to run around happily without concerns about traffic. Restaurant, okay but venture into town if you are a foodie. LOVED the Roosevelt Bath and Spa. Private bath is sublime and followed by an amazing facial and massage. Prepare to relax and a must when visiting the hotel.
Great place, beautiful inside and out. The service was outstanding there. The staff very friendly had a fantastic time. You can hike on the property. They have 2 swimming pools one has a big tube slide. Golf, lawn games, so many amenities just ask at the front desk. There is a spa too. If you get a message reserve a mineral soak too. Have to make a reservation for it. The natural springs there are amazing the water comes from the spring naturally carbonated. Really cool. Lots of history there too check it out!
Well not good Easter Brunch was terrible from the start went from 20 minute wait to over an hour and some long line waiting to get in food was good but warm items were cold seemed very organized at the station area people were running into each other did r get to everything just a note people were leaving togo some where else because of the long lines dissatisfied with there presentation
Very disappointing. Old hotel living on its historical reputation... clearly lacking any renovation or upgrades. Reserved one of their most expensive rooms... Ceiling leaking, stained carpet, clogged drains... Not worth it. Skip it and spend the same at one of the newer hotels in town... for much more.
Cool historic building in the middle of the state park and dog-friendly! Only a 5 minute walk to the concert I was seeing at SPAC. A little expensive, but was totally worth it to not have to worry about venue parking or getting home in traffic after the show. My room appeared to be recently renovated and was clean and comfortable, staff was friendly. I would avoid the restaurant.. I tried to get breakfast but the waiter appeared be overwhelmed already and the manager berated him in front of me which was a total turn-off. They should fire that manager... what an a**hole.
Positive: Best place to visit, I didnt like the cattiplers but thats okay. The breakfast was nice and the people were friendly. I loved the peaceful place and the free bikes. Negative: Some items were not working but it is an older hotel that had a lot of history. I heard its haunted which made even more interesting!!
Positive: Beautiful historic hotel conveniently located with the Saratoga Spa Park. Beautiful area to walk, golf, visit the Spa or Auto Museum. Room was clean and comfortable. The hotel offers a shuttle into town or the casino which was great! Negative: Our room was above the lobby area-overlooking to beautiful entrance. Unfortunately there is also a speaker playing music...all night...which kept my husband awake all night...and the grounds crew woke me up around 5 am when they were mowing.
The hotel is beautiful. The food in the dining room was sub-par. I ordered Salmon for 27.00. The salmon was over cooked and tasteless. It was served on a bed of beans with a few string beans tossed on the side. Dont waste your time eating here, no matter how tired you are go into town.
Customer service was outstanding. Front desk staff was very friendly. However, there are a few things that could have been better. The Victoria pool times, 10 am to 6 pm are not convenient for early births. The AC in our room was very loud and the mattress very uncomfortable.
Positive: Its an old brick building at Saratoga Springs. Negative: The restaurant needs to hire about 10 more wait staff and figure out the outdoor lighting. They cant have motion activated lights. They need to remove the motion detectors on the lights and install ambient lighting.
Upon entering the lobby, we were met with an unpleasant smell, reminiscent of a musty nursing home, they would be wise to invest in aromatherapy. This is definitely an old historic hotel and felt like it. The room was decent, it smelled fresh and the king mattress and pillows were surprisingly very comfortable, which really was the most important aspect for us. Bathroom was extremely small and not sparkling clean. Bring ear plugs, especially if near the elevator, and the AC units are also very loud. It’s off the beaten path, but short ride into town. We did not use a single “amenity” but were still charged the $25 amenity fee upon check out.
The Hotel is historic, and the park-like setting is picturesque, however the accomodations were sub-par. The room was very expensive, yet did not have a working A/C unit, the hotel phone system wasnt working either, so I couldnt communicate quickly with the front desk. They shorted us towels and when I went down to let them know, that my phone was out of service, another guest said his hotel phone wasnt working either, they said they would fix the issues, and they did not. This hotel is significantly over priced for the the lack of amenities it offers. Next trip I would opt for a less expensive option and @ least some modern accomodations and expections.
Absolutely amazing romantic anniversary weekend! I booked through a third party, working advantage, in which the hotel could not find my reservation. I was extremely stressed however the hotel was still able to accommodate us and even upgraded us to a porch suite. Although the bathroom didnt meet my ocd standards, the porch was beautiful and we loved the room. We also loved how convenient it was to everything we visited, either a short walk or less than 10 min drive, perfect location. The rocking chairs out front, the elevators, and the telephones in the lobby gave an old fashioned atmosphere which we loved. A special thank you to John for his generosity and Stephanie for her patience as well. We will definitely be back :-)
The manager on duty was curt and not very helpful. The bed left both my husband and I with back aches. The floor had stains. We did not complete our stay. When we told the same curt front manager that we would be cutting our stay short she didnt even ask us why or if anything could improve our stay. A real disappointment. Its never fun to pay to be treated badly...
The Gideon Putnam hotel is situated inside the beautiful Saratoga Park. The hotel itself is built in 1935 so it the hotel is old. It was reconstructed but I’m not sure what year. Anyway, this is the second time we stayed at this place because we love this place. If you’re a golfer, a runner, someone who loves to ride bicycle in the park or just simply love the nature. Stay here at The Gideon Putnam. The front desk people are very helpful but I have to say Rich (valet) by far is the most hospitable person in this establishment. Nice guy, I think Tom is his partner in crime, another wonderful gentleman. The rooms are equipped with nice beds (although, to the management, please invest in nicer large memory foam pillows). Bring earplugs with you as the rooms still has the older style AC’s (it’s loud!!). Sorry GP, I have to give an honest review). The restaurant in the hotel is good, decent food and service is excellent.Cost of stay for 2 people is slightly on the high side $$$, vs. comfort, cleanliness, amenities, etc. They also have a gym but I recommend to stroll outside and enjoy the park.So there you go. Hopefully you’ll enjoy your stay at The Gideon Putnam as much as we do.
I had amazing customer service at the Gideon Putnam. I had to change the dates of my reservation that I made through Booking.com. Stephanie assisted me over the phone and gave me AMAZING customer service. She was patient, kind, and answered all of my questions. She went above and beyond and she sets the standard for quality customer service. I will be staying at this hotel in the future, and was very pleased with their assistance. We have celebrated many events here, wedding receptions, 50th birthday parties, etc.. and have always received great care. Thank you to Stephanie and the staff at the Gideon Putnam
Beautiful historic building in the gorgeous Saratoga Park! The room was just what we needed for our visit, and they even had a pack and play to give us for our daughter. Very convenient! The staff was all so nice and accommodating, especially with our 1 year old. The only thing we noticed that could have been better was the cleanliness of the bathroom in our room. Otherwise we loved our stay! I definitely recommend staying here if youre planning to visit the area.
THE GIDEON PUTNAM IS A WONDERFUL, HISTORIC HOTEL STAFFED BY FRIENDLY, VERY COMPETENT EMPLOYEES.THE STATE PARK HISTORIC GROUNDS ARE ENCHANTING AND IT IS A REAL JOY TO WALK ON THE PATHS AND LEARN ABOUT THE HISTORY AND GEOLOGY. STAYING AT THE GIDEON PUTNAM MADE THE TRIP TO SARATOGA SPECIAL AND WE PLAN TO RETURN OFTEN.
I cannot begin to describe how disappointed we are with the Gideon Putnam. We decided to come for the weekend to celebrate our anniversary. I was so excited because I had always heard how beautiful and opulent the Gideon Putman was.We pulled up and the hotel looked beautiful! The location is perfect! Saratoga State Park is gorgeous! But that is were the fairy tale ended.First, the parking lot is so far from the hotel. It wasnt horrible because it was a beautiful evening and the scenery is stunning. So after the hike I walk into the lobby. Now it is like a Stephen King novel. Gorgeous from the outside but once you walk in, it changes. None of the expected opulence or elegance. Just old. I take the elevator up to our floor and walk into the thoroughly unimpressive room.Within two minutes my wife screams dont unpack, we are not staying. The room has bugs. BUGS!! Ten or more of the biggest earwigs I have ever seen. On the wall, the windows, and the bed.So we go back to the front desk and tell them. The desk clerk acted as if it it was perfectly normal, saying because it is in a state park, they cannot use pesticides. We are given a different room; no sorry or anything. So after fighting to get the luggage cart up a ramp that can not possibly be by code and into this tiny room we check for bugs - finding none we then unpack. I sit down on the bed which feels like a stone slab with a foam pad on it and survey the room. The carpet is stained and worn. Very worn. I turn on the fan on the AC system and it sounds like someone threw a bag of rocks in a tumble dryer. The industrial gray walls give the warm feeling of a medium security prison. The bathroom is about 90° and the ceiling is cracked plaster with paint peeling off. We live in a house built in the 30s with plaster walls and ceilings that look nothing like the walls in this room. The power outlets on the lamps do not work and the metal ball the security bar catches has been ripped off the door as if someone ran out of there in horror. After about an hour of laying on that medieval torture bed, we called the front desk and told them we were canceling the next two nights. Again, no were sorry or what can we do to make things right? They didnt even ask why!To wrap this review up, I see where the owner replies to many reviews with the fact that he has spent millions on remodeling. Honestly, I can not see it.My wife booked us into the Saratoga Casino Hotel. The place is gorgeous with beautiful rooms and comfy beds.Save yourself the hassle and money (the room was cheaper to boot) and skip the Gideon Dumpton.
Beautiful place, beautify rooms, fantastic food, but overall a really poor experience. We reserved a block of 8 rooms and overall spent well over 3 hours on the phone over 6 phone calls to reserve and still they were wrong when we arrived. Registration staff were mostly rude (they are probably used to reservations being wrong, but still no reason to be rude). Rooms were nice, but many problems with heat and air conditioning. Various species of insects were also guests in our rooms and had no intention of leaving. We were there for a conference and I was an organizer - the conference staff were extraordinarily incompetent and even double booked our event (how does that happen???). Both the mens and womens toilets in the conference center were flooded for an entire day. The place was unbearably hot the first day. Some real bright spots though: (1) Food was incredible and the food service staff both in the restaurant and the conference center were fantastic. The Bellmen were great and really tried to help us through some tough issues (clearly they had a lot of experience trouble shooting customer complaints!) The Gideon is located in a beautiful park and is located in a truly beautiful setting. The room we had (a suite) was beautifully furnished and comfortable except for our insect companions. Overall, this place could be so much better with good management who provide consistent training to their staff and enforce high quality standards.ADDENDUM: After I posted this review, I spoke to Rebeca at the Gideon Putnam Hotel. She was quite gracious and promised that she would work with the staff to resolve the issues that I noted. I was extremely impressed with responsiveness. I am certainly willing to visit again to enjoy the wonderful rooms and the great food.
A traditional inn, very comfortable and elegant. Recently remodeled, the heat and air conditioning along with the insulated window blinds keep the rooms exactly the way you choose. We love this place! Oh, and that doesnt begin to describe the beautiful state park with mineral springs and Roosevelt baths! We cross country skied before our mineral baths and massages. Feel great!
If you are looking for an old fashioned style place to stay this is the place to be. Its like going back in time. The hallways have a hit of the shining which is creepy and cool. The staff is super friendly and helpful and the rooms are very clean. The hotel does have a different smell but its not bad, its just the smell of an old building. The fireplace has real wood and also emits a nice incense smell. There is also a shuttle that takes you on demand to wherever you want to go in Saratoga Springs. The only negative is the in hotel restaurant. The waitstaff is attentive and amazing but the food lacked flavor. I had the flat iron steak amd it was not at all what I expected.
I think this old place has seen better days. It is not a bargain and it is not luxurious. A Hilton provides better rooms and often at a lower price. Paint peeling in the bathroom, drains do not drain. Its beautiful and its surroundings are very beautiful. But when you want a good nights rest, it lacks the basics that you come to expect for the prices they charge.
A lovely hotel. The room is a little small but it is fully renovated. It was a good experience to live in a hotel like this with decoration and history back to the old days. The on-site restaurant offers good weekends brunch and the dinner is good as well. It is really a quiet place sitting in the center of the park. If you dont like noisy hotel right besides the highway, this one would be your choice.
Wonderful stay inside of the Saratoga Springs Park. Lovely staff who was accommodating and friendly! Neat hotel with lots of character, history. Very nice without being stuffy or pretentious. It would’ve been nice to see a vegan option or a dairy free option other than fruit on the breakfast bar, but it was free so I can’t complain.
The spa was wonderful as usual. I spent about $1000 for 2 of us for spa treatments which is to be expected and well worth it.However, the hotel has done some refurbishing that I would not consider upgrading. Just some new bathtubs and such. We opted to go green which I love doing whenever possible. Now, heres the thing that caused the rating of 3. The restaurant wasnt good at all. Years ago the food was excellent and the dining room was clean and rustic. On our recent visit the breakfast buffet was filthy from breakfast buffet the day before. Egg droppings were in the same place on the countertop from the day before. The dirty waffle maker was still on the counter when we went down for dinner that night. Needless to say we turned around and went into town to eat. The ceiling is still stained and damaged in several places as it was from the year before. If the restaurant were cleaned and upgraded and to the standards it was years ago ( when it was a very intimate dining experience) it would have been a 5.
My wife and I are devastated that the Gideon Putnam canceled our wedding twice. The second time was two weeks before our wedding. Our familys had already drove down to New York from out of state and it was extremely embarrassing to have to tell them the news. 2 weeks was not enough time to plan a whole new wedding. We were not given any prior notice both times that they canceled. My wife had to hound them for a simple answer of what was going on with the hotel and they led us on saying they would have our wedding for sure! Trying to get ahold of anyone helpful at the hotel is like pulling teeth. Worst experience ever. Would not recommend planning an event there. We were having trouble planning this wedding with them even before the corona virus started.
Very charming place. Not a modern place but a beautifully classic hotel. And talk about the perfect location. Walking distance to the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, the historic town pool and rental bikes. Very nice staff. And Eric, who works at the front desk did a fabulous job arranging for flowers for me for my wifes birthday.
Very friendly staff. Bed was very comfortable. Food was good, our bartender was wonderful. Amanda, the waitress is five star. Joggers, golfers, dog lovers, hikers - this is your place! We stay in Saratoga hotels often and prefer this hotel for its surroundings, friendliness and the room had a classic feel. We agree with almost all the reviews here but, the staff make this hotel better than most. The cookies (upon request) in the room upon arrival were delicious. We will stay here again.
Classy and lowkey hotel. An awesome option in Saratoga, even in the midst of winter. Rooms were nicely appointed. Overall, the facility was clean, well-maintained, and very customer service oriented. Continental breakfast was just right, with a nice selection of hot and cold options. Front desk staff was very pleasant and common areas were inviting and cozy. Lots of doggos staying in the hotel and guests often congregated in the lobby around the fireplace. Highly recommend and will be going back!
Went for Thanksgiving buffet. Food, as always, was wonderful. A great variety although I found the buffet area itself small and the layout could have been a bit better. The small area made for quite a line of people getting their food. The staff was friendly and efficient and I had nice conversation with the head chef. My family is ready to back for Easter.
The location is wonderful and our room was nice. Unfortunately, the restaurant and bar staff are terrible. The bartender was inattentive and unwelcoming. During lunch time, there were dirty dishes left in the outdoor eating area from breakfast/brunch. The dirty dishes smelled and had bees flying around them. I had to notify our waiter to clean them.
First time visit, one night stay. Front desk and staff very friendly and welcoming. Room was fine without any concerns.Only negative was the in house restaurant. The bar and main room looks cozy and quaint, but we were seated in the portico area.Really, the portico , perhaps in summer is a useful overflow space. But in winter, it really is simply a hallway between the cozy main dining room, and a function room( read noisy 16 year old birthday bash) I have no problem with a gathering of teens for a party. But was disappointed the restaurant management thinks the portico seating area is usable. My advice to guests, if you cannot be seated in main area, head into town.My advice to restaurant management, stop using the portico area as part of the restaurant.Face it- its a hallway.
Our stay was great. We loved our room and the grounds. We would definitely come back and already have talked about it. The area of Saratoga springs is beautiful. My only complaint is the bathroom. It was small and the sink location and door was kind of annoying. Overall a great experience
Lovely location. Very Friendly, helpful staff. The building is old, but the rooms are nice size. We had issues with both the blinds and the TV, but they were corrected almost as soon as we mentioned the problems. It is rare for so many staff to ask if there is anything they can do for you, and mean it! I am truly I pressed with the service!
Building and site is beautiful. Rooms have a musty old smell. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom was nice. Carpets are old worn and thin. Staff is cool and rather aloof. We were there on a very low weekend night. It was though we were invisible to staff. No real warm greetings or help.Disappointed because it holds such possibility.
Third annual visit to the Gideon a couple weeks ago. I sleep so well here which is unusual in a hotel. Recommend the porch suite though it was chilly on this visit. Great walking trails and very convenient to Saratoga restaurants. Shuttle driver was fantastic for our large group Saturday outings. Staff was accommodating. Our conference is moving elsewhere in the state, but this was a location I will miss. Hope to return for pure recreational visit.
There is a reason why this hotel gets so much acclaim in Saratoga Springs. Its full of elegance, and convenience. I was surprised a visit to this lavish hotel by my fiance for our anniversary. They had brought wine and chocolate covered strawberries to our suite. Both delicious! The rooms are clean and fresh. The tub was huge! I do cleaning as a side job and I can tell these maids know how to keep the place tidy. I did get to see the regular rooms and they are very cozy. Keep in mind this is an old building, you will see wear and tear around and smell its age. I think it only adds to its charm. If you choose to deny turn down service you are gifted with free drinks at the bar and water bottles to enjoy the fresh spring water around the park. I still use the water bottle a month later! Another great perk is they offer a free shuttle service from the hotel, into town, and back! The front desk was super helpful, nice, and consistently made our stay memorable. The park is a lot bigger than youd expect so spend a day enjoying its peaceful landscape! Also take a trip to the education center, their environmental educators are so nice and give you great tips about the park.
The grounds of this hotel are fabulous and I had good interaction with staff. My room was good. However the halls are musty, rugs old and pillows on bed are for children, tiny and uncomfortable. There are some nice period pieces of furniture throughout the hotel but this place needs serious updating! You can incorporate old with new and if it wants to go another 75 years it should consider it.
The hotel is beautiful and historic, but the size and quality of the rooms seems wildly inconsistent. On business travel, I had a tiny 1 bed, my colleagues room had like an adjoining sunroom and was a whole suite. We paid the same price.... thats really annoying.I think I am allergic to the hotel. My sinuses stuffed within 10 minutes of arriving and cleared anytime I left the building.
We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary at the hotel 2/29-3/4.On the 29th we did our vow renewal in front of the fireplace in the lobby. I can not say enough about the staff in this hotel. They go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and memorable. The suite we had was so nice beautiful and comfortable. Oh and the rose petals left on our bed along with the choclatecovered strawberries bottle of champagne the staff left in our room was such a nice touch. The brunch on Sunday is a must. Love this hotel and its staff. Thanks for making our stay so wonderful!👍.
The resort is very nice and attractive, you can tell that it is old. our room was small but it worked for the night. the pool was overcrowded and everything was over priced. brunch is $30 per person which is quite expensive in my opinion. it really is a pain to get all the way over here from new jersey though
Rooms though large could definitely use updating. An easy walk to the SPAC concert venue. The rates were spectacular. Lovely grounds with pool and tennis in season. The Lobby is lovely but does not represent the rooms quality. The shower faucet was loose and didnt work perfectly. In general, the staff was surly and acted like they were doing you a favor.
Attended a wedding here. Grounds were pretty, ceremony room had great windows. Sinage was good in some settings but sparce in other hallways so finding your way around could be tricky. Food was good, salad tasted great. Service was good but a little too quick, couldnt leave anything unattended because they would assume you were done and take it right away. Overall it was nice, didnt stay over so cant speak about the rooms.
A great historic hotel Just minutes from downtown and the racetrack and within the State park. The old-world charm and modern amenities made this the perfect choice for us. The staff here was wonderful. Ut rooms are large and the hotel is in a state park. I dont think the room has been renovated in over 40 years.
Beautifully renovated historic hotel on beautiful grounds. The spa is the best part of the experience for those who are interested. A flood has damaged the building and they are in process of making repairs. We got an excellent deal on the room and was hard to resist. Its proxinity to both the food of Saratoga and the sights of the park make a trip for all. Trip was not without kinks, hotel appeared to be short staffed but made up for it in many ways.
This hotel is just dripping with charm and personality. It feels like I stepped into the Great Gatsby with Zelda and F Scott, if I stand still and close my eyes. Room service was top notch, and most importantly we were able to bring my fiancees ankle biter furbaby. I adore these historic hotels that magically transport you back in time. I have zero complaints.
We drove to the Gideon Putnam near the end of October to view the Fall colors. The location of the hotel inside the Saratoga Spa State Park and near downtown Saratoga Springs was excellent. The hotel, however, was run down. Our premium covered porch room ($400/night) had peeling paint, a cracked window, missing window locks, and a noisy antiquated heating system. We cut short our trip by a day because we didnt want to sleep there for a third night. I wouldnt return unless they invested millions to upgrade the rooms.
Lovely place, friendly staff, impeccable service. The only thing would be to have mini-microwaves available either next to ice machines, or in the executive suites next to mini refrigerators. Many of our meals were too large to finish and it would have been great to be able to reheat them for later. Looking forward to visiting again!
The hotel is a classic example of old chic: good looking, elegant, and a period specific hotel. Meaning that it has a lot of amenities and comforts but it is dated. AC in rooms is an add on, heating was not working well, the rooms sound proofing was not strong. Hearing both neighbors easily and exterior noise. The location is wonderful. Close to any number of amenities. Also surrounded by an oaky woodland. Just beautiful for walks.
Truly not worth a single star for Hotel accommodations but the review will not post without highlighting a star. The rooms are old, the carpet smells like dog. The facility does allow pets but there are too many. The bathrooms are in serious need of work. The air conditioners are loud and we killed 5 mosquitoes in one night. The lobby furniture is worn and the facility is in severe need of painting and cleaning. Lack of amenities. Very disappointing for the price.
Love going to Gideon Putnam for Thanksgiving buffet. 2.5 to sit and eat. Worth the price of $50 and up . Great menu from pumpkin ravioli to prime rib. Each year the menue may change. Lovely setting each room has great views. Have not tried the spa yet. The grounds are beautiful.
I attended a conference here with Parks staff and members of their affiliated friends groups from around New York State. The conference rooms were perfectly prepared, and hotel staff maintained a pleasant experience throughout the day-long affair. Breakfast and lunch were served buffet-style, and everything was delicious. The hotel setting and staff allowed attendees to focus on the task at hand by providing for all our needs.
Brief stay with my wife on a Saturday night during the winter. The charm and the history of the hotel is still present and the staff was charming and helpful the entire stay. The rooms were well updated, though there were a few chips in the bathroom tiles giving the guest a view at the past. Sunday brunch was excellent and buy far the best feature is the beauty surrounding the hotel. Easy to walk to all of the state park features including the mineral springs. We did not partake of the spa options, but those too are in walking distance on a nice day. Free shuttle into town is a nice extra and saves you from having to find parking.
The hotel is right in the middle of a tall pine state park. The room itself had been freshly painted and was clean and comfortable. The grounds and park are well maintained as is the conference center, bar and cafe, and front reception area. I may come back, but it may be nicer to stay closer to town.
One of the premier places to stay in Saratoga Springs, located right in the historic state park and with a short walk to golf, the automatic museum, spa’s, natural springs, and one of the best music venues in NYS....SPAC. Hotel staff is always friendly, hotel is clean and recently renovated which includes a new elevator. Prices reflect SPAC events and track season. 5 minute drive to downtown, but easy to get an Uber or food delivery. Never a bad time to stay at the Gideon. Only reason it’s missing it’s 5th star is some of the rooms are still very dated, and cost can spiral rather quickly during events.
We usually try to stay in town when we go to the track, this was the only place available and we were pleasantly surprised. We have stayed in the winter for a romantic weekend so we thought we would give it a try. They have a shuttle that will take you to the track or into town. We came back and had drinks outside in the rocking chairs while listening to live music. My favorite is the chili, it is amazing. The breakfast was a little overpriced. The grounds are very nice for a walk in the morning and if you stay at the hotel you have the use of the Victoria pool, however there seems to be a line to get into it early, we did not visit it.
Was at the Gideon Putnam for two family functions, both catered by the hotel. The dinner was simple but good, although there was an issue as we specifically asked for no ham sandwiches in the spread, and despite this there were many ham sandwiches. Brunch was better, delicious lox platter and even more black berries. Service was little aggressive: no I am not done with that plate yet, but overall very pleasant.
Very nice old hotel. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Rooms are very small and air conditioning was next to non existent. Location is great though and there is plenty of history within walking distance. Of your willing to give up some of the more modern ammenities this place is great.
This place should not advertise as being a luxury hotel.Let me start by saying we stayed here soon after it reopened after months of extensive repairs required after a major water main break flooded the hotel. I assume the flood did not affect the upper floors where the rooms are, because I didnt see anything that looked recently upgraded. We started in a single room with a kind size bed. Since we had been hiking all day, the first thing I did was to head straight into the shower. Unfortunately, the diverter wasnt actually diverting even half of the water from the tub spout into the shower head. After many calls to the front desk, someone finally picked up, and they said they were upgrading us to a suite for our troubles.Once they moved our bags to the suite across the hall, we discovered a few annoying things about our new room. We were now going to be sleeping in a full size bed with a night stand on only one side (major downgrade from king), the light switches for part of the suite were located in the public hallway, there was no way to shut off the AC which was blasting freezing air even though it was under 60 degrees outside, and the glass in the window in the bathroom was broken. The next day we discovered that the hair dryer blew actual flames when turned on, and that many of the outlets in the room didnt work at all.It was really conveniently located inside of the park, but Im not sure I would stay here again.
Will never return to the resort after spending 3 nights during racing season. Resort staff is in major need of training and the facility needs serious capital investment. We had two rooms. Neither shower worked (one had brown water and one didnt drain). Housekeeping was non-existent. The small restaurant was overwhelmed at every moment and incredibly slow. Patrons were having to bus their own tables. We watched one table turn over three times with glasses never picked up once! The entire resort needs a deep clean. Windows are dirty, ceilings are filthy and the furniture in our rooms was stained. Only positives were the bartenders in Putnams and the valet parkers. It takes more than those two departments to run a successful resort.
Hostile to bicyclists! I called the reservations department with a question about their junior suite. In the course of a really absurd conversation, I discovered that the hotel will not allow guests to bring bicycles to the room. Nor do they provide a secure place to store them overnight elsewhere. I was told that I could not bring our bikes past the front door, and that the best solution would be to keep them in our car. None of this is posted on their website.I was told that the hotel has been recently been renovated, and they want to keep it clean. This is absurd. They allow dogs in the hotel. My bicycle doesn’t jump up and down on the furniture and bedding, and I assure you, is cleaner than a dog.It was suggested to me that we rent bicycles from the hotel. This again is absurd, as we are on a bicycle vacation, and that still doesn’t solve the overnight storage issue.Rules are rules. The Gideon Putnam decided not to rent to us because of our bicycles. By the way, in dozens of states this is the first problem of this sort. Most hotels enjoy our business.
My husband, daughter and I were here June 16-20, 2018. This hotel is dated and has many things that need to be fixed. Our room was modest and in good shape but the first night we had a broken air conditioner. We also had a fridge and a Keurig coffee maker that was broken. The front desk staff were not very friendly nor helpful. They have zero customer service as far as knowledge of the area- where to rent bikes, where to swim (the Catherine pool was not open during the week in June!) We will not stay here again. I have heard that New Yorkers are not very friendly but these people put the U in UNfriendly. Delaware North needs to revamp their properties.
The room was a little pricey for what you get. The rooms are dated and the front desk staff left a little too be desired (couldnt print receipt at check out and were very abrupt during booking). The grounds , however, were beautiful and a great place for the wedding we attended
I was hoping this would have been better, an I am not a complainer. But this place was a total disappointment! Room never clean, dirty windows ,bathrooms floor . Ask them to get spider webs out of corners, they never showed up to even clean the room (the entire day). The air conditioner must be 30 years old ( noisy ).Beautiful grounds , friendly staff, But rooms are terrible. Stay elsewhere and visit the grounds.
My family and I stayed for the New Years week end and we had the best time. I almost cancelled our trip last minute because we have 3 teenagers and I was afraid they werent going to have enough to do. I am so glad I didnt because we all had a great time and there was plenty to do. We bought the first night out pins and the town put on a great show with approx 70 different kinds of venues from comedy, magicians and every kind of musical act and they finished it off with a 30 minute firework display at midnight. The down town area was a lot of fun with many different kinds of restaurants, bars and shops to choose from. The hotel had so much character and the grounds were amazing with all kinds of walking paths, hiking and free snow shoeing that we did to the geysers in the state park located behind the hotel. If you like skating bring your skates because theres a big outdoor rink behind the hotel. We also tried there mineral baths that were so relaxing. To top it off we decided to go snowmobiling at Lake George that was only a half an hour ride from the hotel and that was a big hit with the family.
The food And presentation for last Sundays buffet was very good. The only off-putting thing to say was the woman with a so called support dog that was covered in hair herself along with the leash she dragged the dog to the buffet with multiple times. This is when I lost my appetite seeing the so called support dog sniff the chaffing dishes as the owner seemed to be oblivious. Please have courtesy for other especially when paying 28 dollars a person. I ultimately blame the staff as they allowed this to happen with no objection. I understand people may need support animals but the buffet does not. Will not return anytime soon. Spent 450 very dollars for my wifes birthday brunch party and i am still discusted by the dog issue
Nice setting and lots of walking trails to explore. Conference Centre is a bit stuffy and dry to spend all day in. Staff are friendly and courteous and the menu was tasty.Rooms are clean and nice but the whole building was hot! It was the winter and we were sweating all day long.
Very disappointing experience at the Gideon. The brunch is a trip we look forward to but this years Fathers Day brunch was a disappointing experience. So many people scheduled for the 11:00 seating and the food so poorly arranged that the line was out the door to even get to the food. The breakfast foods were all crammed into a far corner with only one tray of each food set up to feed everyone (one tray of French toast, one tray of bacon & sausage, etc) the very first items on the serve line were tarter and cocktail sauce? Yes shrimp was next but there was also cod across the room with no sauces so you had to slip into the line. Same with syrup for the French toast, it was located at the very last stop in the corner. The food selection was not what it has been in the past, not filled quickly, and the desserts were not even labelled despite peanut butter products sitting right next to other foods with obvious cross contamination. The worst part was when our daughter dropped a coffee mug which broke on the floor. We were told, dont worry about it we will clean it up when we reached down to get the pieces so no one got hurt. No one came and there were big pieces of jagged broken ceramics on the floor, under the table, and in the walkway. We pointed the pieces out, expressed concern that someone would slip, moved pieces that were large, but after 30 minutes we left and still no one had come. As we walked out we found that despite the main room being uncomfortably full of people, the other rooms were almost empty and the wait staff was standing around chatting. Finally, on the way out there was a group trying to assist a woman into a wheelchair. There was no staff from the hotel outside and no parking attendant despite the fact that it was pouring rain and a large number of older people attend. After realizing the problems the group were having I left my car and went to help them inside. The Gideon used to be an experience to enjoy a piece of history and luxury in our own beautiful park. Now I fear its just another hotel with overpriced, poorly customer designed, lack of quality services thats resting on the laurels of who they used to be - A painted lady of Saratoga whose slip is showing. I hope this was just a misstep.
Rooms very clean but small. Valet staff very friendly and helpful. Bar/restaurant staff were terrible We sat down and waited 20 min without staff even acknowledging we were there so we left and went into town for dinner and drinks. We tried again for breakfast, waitress was rude and acted like we were an inconvenience. We paid for our room through Hotwire then when we checked out we were charged additional $20/day “convience” charge, not sure what this was for, one of the 3 days we were there room service did not even service our room.
My wife and I stayed here one night. I was not impressed with the rooms or the staff. When we got to our room I immediately started to hear a high pitched noise. Thinking maybe it was the heater I turned it off. No difference. We called the front desk and right away the staff asked if we wanted to change rooms before we said anything about the noise. They sent up a maintenance guy to look at it and he said it was the hot water running through the walls and there was nothing they could do about it. They did move us to another room. If they know of this noise why did the sell this room? Either way I figured a hotel with the history and cost would be a bit better.
The Gideon is located in such a beautiful location and stately in appearance. Its my favorite drink and I said I really wanted to drink their summer drink specials all weekend with my meals and couldnt they please pick up a bottle But they said they could not. Prime rib was offered as a special but they ran out before we got the chance to order. Staff was super pleasant and it was a great getaway.
The room was so much smaller then the the picture showed, the large cracks in the door allowed the light to shine through the into the room, the refrigerator made a horrible noise all night and there was a loud banging noise every 30 - 40 minutes. Worst night sleep in a hotel in my life. I told the manager and she said we should of called to tell them and offered no reimbursement. For the location and the price, we where not impressed at all
Needs work.I love the Gideon Putnam. I like the property, I like the history. The staff is always great as is the food. However, the guest rooms are getting old and in need of significant upgrades. Especially the bathrooms which have old fixtures. My room had a shower curtain rod which was so loose that it was leaving dust around the tiles and was close to falling down. Please fix this historic property and return it to its former glory.
Beware Room 320 has BedBugs!I reported it to the manager at the front desk but this was kind of met with a doubt rather than a compassionate response. I was told that hotel will bring a remediation company but I decided to checkout. Room itself is from 1960s at best. screaming for major overhaul. Hotel is very dated and needs lots of renovation work, tons .
Rob and the entire team at the Gideon were so easy to work with for our wedding a few weeks ago! They took care of all-day of responsibilities with ease and delivered on all their promises! Definitely recommended for couples who are on top of planning as their was some turnover in the beginning and sometimes it was difficult to get questions answered promptly via email. Overall, our guests had an amazing time and loved the food! We were thrilled with our choice to go with the Gideon for our celebration!
Very friendly staff - but unless you have an appreciation for historical and older buildings, steer clear. This is not going to have your ultra modern decor, state of the art fixtures, etc. This building is lovely and Ive very much enjoyed my stay but I came with an understanding of the establishments theme.
The Gideon Putnam is a gorgeous venue for events, weddings, and more. The attention to detail in the architecture, the over all cleanliness of the building, and the vibe of luxury oozing from every room is amazing. Would recommend this venue for anyone looking for an upscale location to host his or her events.
Decent rooms, nice bathroom. The breakfast in the morning is not good at all... bad warmed over breakfast sandwiches and the woman running the breakfast gave me a hard time for taking 2 coffee cups for the hot coffee instead of using a sleeve. Not a good way to start your day. I won’t stay again.
The hotel in itself is beautiful with so much vibrant history, but I encountered a racist/ discrimination at the restaurant part. One of the waiter, a female refused me services and asked that I leave the restaurant, that she didn’t want to serve my kind. It’s truly a long story and one that truly traumatised me. I don’t wanna put the entire establishment down because of one person, but being a person of colour? I’m not sure I’d ever set foot there again.
I booked a wedding room block 13 months prior to my daughter’s wedding date and it’s been a total nightmare. I finally had enough with the horrible customer service that I cancelled today. The hotel is in very poor condition especially the function halls.I went to visit other hotel properties and must say we received the RED CARPET treatment and customer service went over and above from the Hampton INN and Grand Pavilion.
I am attending a conference at the Gideon Putnam. I only stayed for one night. The room was NOT clean. The Keurig had 2 inches of dust on it, the refrigerator had brown mold in it. I need a refrigerator as I am diabetic and follow a special diet. I did get a new one, but it did not get cold. I was told it was not to keep anything really cold and I could put my medication at the front desk refrigerator. I would never let my medication out of my possession and place it in a lobby refrigerator. In addition, when I woke this morning, my sinus were so swollen from the dust in the room, I had to move to another hotel. The manager actually had the gaul to give me attitude. I would never recommend this place to anyone. I asked for a refund for my prepaid stay.
Weve stayed here several times as part of a conference my husband attends every year. This time was certainly better than one stay in the past when we were on the 4th floor, it had a musty smell and there were ants in the bathroom. We were on the 3rd this time. Room was clean and a nice size. Nice view of the back gardens. Bathroom was quite small and cramped. Outlets/charging ports: Yes, this is a standard part of any hotel review now. There were 2 charging ports on the alarm clock which was tethered to one side of the bedside table, some plugs behind the bedside table that were nearly inaccessible, a few outlets on the side of the big desk(about half worked.) Anyway, it would be nice to have accessible outlets on all sides of the beds and have them all working. The first day, we left in the morning for several hours but the room still hadnt been cleaned when we got back, so we just skipped it. They did provide Towels. Coffee maker and fridge, no microwave.Restaurant: Putnams. Weve mostly eaten breakfast here. The food is very good, a bit pricy($65 for breakfast for 2 adults, 2 kids, with beverages.) There is no kids menu for breakfast, only lunch/dinner, which probably accounts for some of the increased cost. I had the chorizo wrap with no chorizo:) Eggs, cheese, spinach, potato medley in a flour tortilla. Comes with purple, orange and red potato medley which was a bit salty but tasty. Good coffee. Good, friendly service.
Heating in many room didnt work properly and if its working its super noisy. Staff not so great. Restaurants is expensive and the staf at the entrance is playing on is phone instead of helping. Not every bathroom have changing table and its really hard to have a late check out to accomodate a baby. The Building is verry cold. I was in a deluxe room and not sure what is the luxe in it. Theire was a bed a desk with a chair. And a chest of drawers with a tv.on it. No confortable seating. Clean no bug..
I am one to not write bad reviews but people need to be warned especially if you are looking for a nice place to stay. Our blinds were literally broke in half, the glass in the window was broken, there was a tick in the tub which was also filthy. The walls were full of scuff marks. And a big gash on closet door. The rug was dirty and so worn out. And no breakfast included. Decided to splurge and purchased fruit platter which the fruit was grosse and my raspberries had mold on them. You are better off staying at the Holiday Inn or The Hyatt in Malta. We have had our fair share of hotel stays over the years and this is by far the worst place ever. And what a disappointment for our 15th wedding anniversary getaway.
The Gideon Putnam is one of the great old historic hotels. And with that you need to roll with a little personality. It is not a modern luxury hotel. It is grand and wonderful. And the renovations mean clean, freshly painted rooms with new carpets. When in the garden dining area, painted dining room and entrance you come away with a real sense of a step back in time. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location can’t be beat for those attending events at SPAC.
I received a $700 gift card for the resort and had nothing but issues trying to use it. Our trip here fell short of our expectations of a resort that charges $299 a night. Our room was semi clean and the bathroom needed some serious work. The last straw was our experience at the Putnam restaurant. We watched the chef with his apron and toque leave the bathroom and proceed to call someone on his cellphone while making me wait for the omelet. When we spoke to the management and the front desk the said they were sorry but offered no other compensation for the disgusting breakfast. We will not be returning and Im seeking out the general manager to discuss the many issues that need to be addressed in this resort.
The property is right next to SPAC so we stay there when we attend concerts. The last time we were there two weeks ago, the thermostat was locked on 71 degrees the entire room was damp from the humidity. The doors to the room next to us as well as our own were so swollen from the dampness that people were slamming doors all night. When we emailed no one even answered, indicative of the state of the rooms.
Mothers Day brunch buffet was much more disorganized than previous years, selection of items was more down scale and there seemed to be less staff working. Overall it felt like a huge step down from earlier experiences, and was not representative of the normal caliber of this establishment. Id wager there has been a change in management that has been detrimental to the image the hotel should be projecting.
Worst experience possible. The staff is beyond rude and impossible to deal with. I had my wedding at the Hall of Springs and attempted to book rooms for myself and my guests as well as a brunch the next day. The staff was not helpful and went out of their way to make things difficult for us. They told our guests when they called to book rooms there that our room block was invalid, there were no rooms available (when indeed there were plenty), that we were not staying there, and the list goes on and on. They said they were going to do things that they never did. Every question took at least 3 calls to get an answer. Do yourself a HUGE favor and book elsewhere. You will save yourself a major headache in the end. The rooms were not even the greatest. Our bridal suite had a shower with no water pressure and the water did not drain. Gross.
I attended a conference there. I did not stay there. I stayed there in the past and was not thrilled. They do not provide free breakfast (one of my main requirements). The Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites in Downtown Saratoga gives you more bang for the buck and is about a 10 minute drive to the Gideon.
Beautiful grounds, but for $500+ per night I had a bathroom badly in need of re-tiling and a tub that took 20 minutes to drain and did not get seen to after I reported it to the front desk. As a frequent visitor to Saratoga Springs, I had always wanted to stay here. Will definitely not be coming back.
Ive stayed at the Gideon Putnam many times. It is a quaint old hotel But very clean & accommodating! If your snoody, ou dont belong here!!!! Enjoy life, this is a great spot reminiscent of the period for the hotel & area. Try it, youll love it! In addition, Ive never had a problem with the staff. Everyone is great & knowledgeable.
Hotel is charming (a bit over priced)but I would like to warn anyone going that the pool they adverstise. Treatments are not crazy expensive. Great staff and service at the Gideon. In the morning there was a great brunch and horse and buggies out front giving carriage rides through the park.
My room was very large and the colors were inviting. Windows had cracks in them and couldnt close all the way so they couldnt lock. I was on the 5th floor so that want much on a concern. Tv was placed so that the whole tv had to be moved so I could spoon in to watch it in bed. Conference room was large, well lit, and comfortable. Overall, Im not sure the hotel should be charging as much as it does for what you get. Other local hotels have indoor pools and hot tubs and done include some meals. You dont even get a continental breakfast!
Convenient location in a park-like setting. Perhaps the finest aspect of staying here is its setting in the state park, where you are surrounded by towering pines and a multitude of paths to take refreshing walks through the surrounding park. The coupon was for a standard room which was pretty small.
Terrible service. Had money stole out of my room while I was away. Reported to the front desk. The lady who was supposedly in charge has taken no step to returning or figuring what happened to my money. Maids continued to knock on my door, even though I had the do not disturb sign out. One maid walked into my room while my sister was in there and said she thought her friend was in there, which is absurd because why would another maid be in a room with a do not disturb sign out. Would never recommend this place to anyone and would have felt more secure in a motel.
The hotel is very dirty i found dust balls in a few places throughout the hotel. My family was supposed to stay her but when we got to the hotel for our diner and we saw how bad it was we went to a different hotel nearby. This place reaks like a nursing home the staff are very rood. I actually enjoyed the spa although it would be nice if it was closer and the food wasnt so bad. However the building hasnt been updated in a long time and is in very bad condition. I dont recommend this hotel considering there are so many better ones nearby.
I had the worst experience at the Gideon. I had called to make reservations for Sunday April 14 for five people. When I arrived the lady at the front desk claimed that my name was not in the system. She didn’t even try to accommodate me and my friends at first until I had expressed how upset I was about THEIR mistake. She then tried to book us massages at a later time but we were turned off by the way she handle the situation. Not only did me and my friends drive 4hrs to the Gideon we stayed over night on Saturday at a hotel just so we can go to their spa on Sunday. My only advice for those coming to this spa is to triple check that they’ve booked your appointment because you’ll end up wasting your time like I did.
The location of the Gideon Putnam hotel is absolutely beautiful, and the decor suits the location well. There is plenty of walking around the Gideon Putnam Hotel which can be accessed easily without any hassel. The food in the restaurant is great and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.
The Gideon Putnam is a historic gem in Saratoga Springs, New York. Ideal location to enjoy nature yet near city activities. Been there for the brunch which is always good and so was the food for the conference. The current price of $120 maxes this an excellent value. Old world charm at its finest.
After more than a decade at the Gideon Putnam Hotel, one might think it would be time to move on, but for my husband and I that is not even a thought. Through the years weve seen many changes and we think theyve all been for the best. Its not just the hotel itself, its the people. From the moment we make our reservations Deanna Kirk is on it, making sure all our desires are met. She is not only extremely professional and knowledgeable but she is kind and caring. For years she has answered all of our questions, concerns, cares promptly. We just love her. Rich, the bell hop greats us like he knows us, thats pretty special to us. Shaunna at the reception desk, what a great personality! Always a warm hello, makes a point of knowing who you are and addressing you by name. We appreciate that Shaunna! The ladies who clean our room always have a smile and a hello, how was your year? We have not met one person working at the Gideon who hasnt been pleasant. It tells us that management treats them pretty well, and that says a lot. Linda, the hostess with the mostess in the Putnam Restaurant, she is a joy and a professional. So, thank you Deanna, Shaunna, our cleaning ladies, and all the wonderful men and women working at the hotel, we really appreciate you. Thank you for making it so that there will be no moving on for us!!
Staff/Service: The staff do not seem to have a clue about much and the service levels are positively sub-standard. There is no preference to guests of the Gidoen and the wo*** at the front desk of the hotel where pretty unhelpful. I wouldnt stay here again only based on the cost/value.
Went 2 weeks ago. The receptionist was overall incompetent. Asked him to book us an appointment at the mineral baths. After driving 4 hours to the hotel and then making it to the baths we were told that he did not reserve anything. He managed to screw up the booking and when we arrived the bath receptionist said nothing was booked for us while the hotel kept asserting that they did do the booking.Overall that bald bloke with glasses working the hotels reception on sundays is completely useless.Youre better off going to the race track and betting on horses. Put some trifecta. Better chance youll win something than getting anything out of that hotel.

2022-06-20We stayed in this hotel one night and our room was on the second floor, looking at the entrance. Overall our stay was totally disappointing. Almost everything in the room needs renovation. I am 6 feet and the shower head was around my shoulder and I have to kneel down to wash my head. There was a wedding ceremony in the evening we stay here and at around 2am, a group started to shout and laugh at the entrance, just in front of our window and all the noise was inside our room. They stopped after our second complaint to the front desk but unfortunately, we could not turn back to sleep after that. And at 7am, we wake up again with a blower sound! They cleaned the entrance with a blower early morning. Terrible sound isolation, but most important looks like management is far away to ensure basic standards of a hotel. Pricing for this hotel is like it is in the high segment but actually, the overall quality is motel class. It does not deserve what you paid for.

2021-12-18The team at the Gideon Putnam went above and beyond to make our wedding weekend a wonderful experience for our guests - and us! We had a mix of local guests and folks traveling to be with us. The Gideon offered an amazing destination for everyone. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed the amenities provided by the hotel including a shuttle service, fireplace lounges in the lobby, coffee service, and an exceptional location in the heart of the Spa State Park. We hosted our ceremony, reception, and post-wedding brunch at the hotel. From management to front desk team, to catering, to housekeeping, to the awesome shuttle drivers, we experienced gracious customer service and professionalism. Stacie coordinated with all our vendors and the team at the hotel. She offered helpful advice and suggestions during our rehearsal and reception set-up. We are grateful for the memories we were able to make at The Gideon Putnam and highly recommend each aspect of this full service hotel - for events, or personal travel.

2022-04-24Beautiful Resort in a State Park, awesome rooms and service. The only bad thing is Downtown Saratoga is a drive away. But if your looking for a quiet remote location this is perfect. Pet friendly too.

2022-05-17Fantastic midpoint destination on a motorcycle ride to Manhattan. Building and property are beautiful and genuinely caters to guests looking for the classic hotel experience. If youre riding down, book a massage at the adjacent spa. Their talented staff surprised me with an EXCELLENT massage that hit all the points riders feel from a long ride.

2022-04-17Our family went here for Easter brunch today and it was awful. We had an 11:30 reservation and waited in a line in the lobby until 12:30 before we were seated. When we finally got to our table our server informed us they were very short staffed and she would try and get us drinks soon, which was 20 minutes later. The buffet itself was terrible. All of the food was cold, even things just coming out from the kitchen. When we asked if we could have anything hot, we were told that it was cold because the kitchen was so far away. They were out of many items, had no breakfast potatoes as it said on the menu and for a time even ran out of plates. To charge 54.99 and have a low quality of food and service is a disgrace. My family and I will never return here as many others today who were at the buffet also said.

2022-06-20Im not even sure where to begin. Went for a wedding there. I have never been there and will never return. The rooms were ridiculous. The mystique of the place was better then reality. Staff was great but the prices are atrocious. $50 a person for all u can eat buffet. Holy cow that insane. I honestly can say Ill never go back. So beyond overrated. Awful place

2022-06-07We love the Gideon Putnam and have stayed here multiple times. However, the latest trip was disappointing. The restaurant was staffed by inexperienced rookies, and the prices were steep. One Titos martini was $19.75. Yep, we paid for the bottle with one drink. The food was good, but not exceptional and not worth the cost..

2022-05-04Easter Brunch was a disaster of epic proportions. It took us over a week of calling just to get a reservation because nobody was answering or returning messages from the phone line designated for reservations. On the day of, they were completely unprepared for the number of guests they had. They were not ready to seat until well after our 10 AM seating time, and of course they had lost our reservation, along with many others. We waited almost 20 minutes for coffee from a waiter whom we never saw again (never even got a chance to order the mimosas we would have liked), and by the time we got through the 30 minute line for food, we had been there for over an hour. They ran out of EVERY ONE of the menu items about which I had been excited, and when I went back to see if they had refilled any of them, I found that they had either run out of plates or deliberately chosen not to bring more in order to encourage guests to leave. (We were well into what should have been the second seating by this point.)I will say that all the staff members we interacted with seemed to be doing their best under very difficult circumstances, and Chef Trevors food (that which I actually got the opportunity to try) was absolutely delicious. However, for a nearly $300 brunch at what SHOULD be the nicest place in Saratoga, I expect much better. It should also be noted that we received no apologies, no discounts, and no attempts to rectify this situation in any way. It was their first event after reopening post-COVID, so a certain amount of chaos can be understood, but it really was disgraceful service.

2022-05-02If you have any issues with the Restaurant, ask for Theresa, the Manager. She is wonderful. There was an incident with a disgruntled bartender who was incredibly disrespectful (and scary), but Theresa stepped in and made everything great. What could have been a horrific evening and meal turned into a delight. Theresa is a hard worker who knows how to treat her guests. Thank you, Theresa!

2022-06-17We reserved an Executive Suite specifically to have a bit more room & a sitting area with a sofa, as friends were stopping by before the concert. Though our room was on the 5th floor, there really was not a separate sitting area. There was not a couch- only 2 chairs. The wall mounted tv could not rotate 180 degrees so guests could view from chairs-cords would not allow & tv would hit the wall. For almost $234/nite and the suite description on website - without a doubt did not live up to either. Very disappointed.
