The Gin Mill in other cities:
Its great, once I ordered a mocktail and was charge two different prices for the same drink, one was more accommodating than the other. Also, the front door bouncer acts a little like a tough cookie/ night club, so be prepared if youre expecting the scale to be higher than standard. Food is good, especially the burgers and nachos, at the same time.
This place is a fantastic sport bar! 🍻 The Gin Mill is a great local watering hole with wide variety of classic American 🇺🇲 dishes 🍽️! Definitely try the Nachos, Chicken 🍗 Caeser Wrap 🌯, and Fries 🍟 - all absolutely delicious! 🤤 The place is filled with TVs showing sport events 🏈 and has full-sized Beer 🍺 Pong tables! Staff is nice and welcoming! Service is quick. I wish I came here more often!
While biking around the city on 09/29/20, My wife & I bumped into this little neighborhood bar & grill. To our surprise, It wasnt bad. While I did ask for my burger to be medium well, The burger was over cooked, But pretty tasty! We also did get a handsome amount of fries with our meal. We ordered Blue moon beer, But did wish they were served in a glass instead of a plastic cup. Also want to mention our servers (Sorry I cant remember their names) were very friendly & attentive. All in all, The Gin Mill is a nice little place to eat & drink when hanging out in the city. We strongly recommend it & well be back...Rose & RaulFrom Clifton, NJ
After a visit to the American Natural History Museum my friends and I wanted to enjoy a G&T somewhere close by. Thanks to Google Maps we were led to the Gin Mill. A sweet spot with attentive waitstaff, comfortable outdoor seating and bartender with a heavy handed pour! We will definitely be visiting again.
Food was mediocre and came out cold, drinks are reasonably priced for the neighborhood ( smaller glasses Im assuming because of the pandemic). The staff were VERY nice and helpful and made sure to fix my order. I ordered loaded tots with no bacon... Cheesy how I like them. Not very flavorful but decent for the price 👍🏻
Great Happy Hour, The Burgers and wings are supreme! Nice neighborhood bar that draws a nice crowd. Conversations will become yelling matches because this place pumps up that music! Beer pong tables and eat-in tables are in the rear. A private party room can be rented for events which is located downstairs. Thats a nice room too with its own bar!
AMAZING nachos! Best Ive ever had! We went during the day and they had half price drinks until 8pm so we got a pitcher of beer for such a low price compared to everywhere else we saw in NYC. The burgers looked amazing and such big portions too. They always have loads of deals and they have a nice atmosphere. If youre passing definitely go in, even if its just to grab a half price drink! But again, nachos! With pulled pork! AMAZING! The best ever.
Your local watering hole with probably the best prices in town. Bartenders and waitresses are cool as hell. Always feel welcomed here and its a great after work place to wind down with drinks and even meet cool people. Beer pong in the back in case if you want to have a little fun with friends as well.
Good music, a LOT of tables(which is good), and great service makes this an awesome bar to visit when you want to go out with some friends. Though the tables take away forthe usual amount of intermingling that you get in bars. The specials are definitely great too, generally starting after 8pm on weekdays, the specials start at 11:30am on weekends
Its the sister bar to Jakes dilemma. Together they are part of the sprawling ny best bar syndicate. A familiar atmosphere or beer soaked wood, big screens, load music, drinking games and off peak specials draw throngs of college types. Food is consistent pub grub. Come for half priced pitchers but ask for a glass, those plastic mugs take cheap too far. Maybe youll get lucky. Its where I met my wife!
Jack and Jason are great. They always provide amazing customer service and are extremely friendly. I even witnessed Jack dealing with an unruly older couple visiting verbally assaulting him and he handled himself in an extremely professional matter as the man hassled him rudely. Always a great experience!
My high school friends and I used to go here when it was known as fire house. They have solid bar foods and drinks. I recently went during happy hour, and there was a bouncer at the door who checked id. Service is great once you are inside and there are beer pong tables in the back.
Cool spot in the upper west side. Definitely check out the happy hour which actually seems to last till 8pm. Bar food isnt bad at all and the ambiance is spot on. Definitely a cool place to check out some games or hangout on the weekend or stop in after work during the week...
College bar trying to look a little more upscale, but still attracts college bar types, BUT, not as much as the other locations owned by the same company. It IS near other college bars, so eventually during certain nights, youre bound to pick up some of the runoff from other bars. I preferred it when it was Moes and they had Mexican themed foods, but we cant all get what we want, I suppose. Nice spot to hang out with friends if you dont wanna spend a lot of money. Just make sure you find a decent bartender to deal with for the night.
Not bad as far as bars go. It is everything you expect at a bar with the notable section for some group gatherings and lets not forget about the beer pong. Since its called the gin mill you have to order gin, and it lives up to expectations. Finally with a good menu of items and a well stocked bar, its everything you are looking for in a great nyc bar.
Definitely not for the faint of heart or the unassertive, the fact that its sandwiched between two (or more?) colleges makes it inevitable that the place is going to be packed. Dont go if its college night if you can afford to pay more for drinks, but if youre a poor student, youre not going to beat the prices. Its great for groups and if youre planning a large event, theyre great with helping you to plan your own happy hour. Expect lots of unwise alcohol consumption and beer pong.
I once again regrettably returned to The Gin Mill during lunch hours because Jake’s Dilemma opens at 3pm during the week. By the way, Jake’s Dilemma gives excellent, efficient service. But not The Gin Mill. One bartender in particular never smiles and moves back and forth behind the bar at negative speed of light. You’re lucky if she acknowledges you with her drab, droopy face and complete lack of personality. And once again I walked out. I then went to Frank Mac’s bar down the street. Exactly the opposite of The Gin Mill. Worthy of a Michelin Star. Mike was a true, over-the-top professional. One of the best bar experiences ever. Please do not pass this pub up when in the Upper West Side! And definitely pass up The Gin Mill. Come to Frank Mac’s or Jake’s Dilemma (when it’s open).
Typical Sports Bar. Was there Friday night and it was pretty loaded with people. Nice atmosphere and awesome playlist (rock). But the real awesomeness was reserved for the ridiculously beautiful barkeepster who helped me pick out the correct beer and gave me a free Goose to make up for advising Bud Light the first go. Made my evening.Anyway: cool place, nothing special.
Ive spent 5 years in NYC and had the chance to eat food from hundreds of places. The Gin Mill has hands down the best sandwich in the city, the New York Strip Steak Sandwich. Go there, get one and you wont forget it! Apart from that, the GMs are really great people, the staff is always helpful and professional and the drinks are good.
Very poor service. The bar tender last night did not volunteer to serve me and my significant other from Italy. We sat at the bar for at least 20 or more minutes and did not get served even though he was not busy. However, we did not feel welcomed and decided to go to another bar down the street and had an awesome time. 05/04/16 was the night he worked.
Great spot for catching up, watching sports - 12+ TVS, and even playing beer pong! Specials are on point here too. I came on a Wednesday to watch the Knicks and Linderella, and pitchers of Bud Light were only $8! Seems like a good place for groups to hang out and get a table. I didnt order any food, but the nachos at the table next to mine looked awesome!And... dont forget about Power Hour on Saturdays! $1Drafts, $2 Shots from 8-9pm!
Whoa, talk about unexpected surprise. As I was traveling to my homeland I needed a sweet treat for my metro north trip. Miraculously this place was near the restrooms downstairs in the dining concourse with a mini line. I was struck by the display case. I saw jumbo individual pies, jumbo muffins, cupcakes and whole cakes in glass cake stands that look like what Id see at grandmas.I settled on the cupcake, just one (trying to keep a waist line during bathing suit season ya know). I got the chocolate frosted vanilla cake. On first glance, the ratio of frosting to cake was perfect, you know 30% frosting 70% cake. The cake was very good, light, fluffy a clearly made with butter not margarine. I was a little shocked when I peeled back the liner, seemed like there shouldve been more cake. Since I was already on my way to Connecticut, that didnt stop me. I dug in. The frosting was good, chocolaty and real cream, not just brown flavored powdered sugar. For $3.25 in NYC Ive got no complaints. The cupcake was cheaper than the latte I got at another stand and more satisfying. Ill get another on the way back.
Very disappointed in service! I came here and had to leave after 20 minutes of no service. I went to the bar where the bartender told me since I was sitting outside, I had to wait for a waitress. After seeing two different waitresses serve other tables and skip mine after I signaled them, I went to the bar where the bartender blatantly ignored me. She proceeded to go from each end tending to other clients and wiping the bar down. I’m so sad because I’ve come here with friends and for corporate events. I will never suggest this place to anyone.
I have always heard good things about this place but unfortunately one of the bartenders thought it a good idea to re-charge my credit card and add an extra tip for him/herself without my knowledge. I was there last Saturday 12/22 in the evening...there was one female and one male bartender present and Im not sure who the culprit was. So while this seems like an ok place to hang out just BE AWARE that this is going on. If you are leaving tips in cash and paying your tab by card MAKE SURE to cross out the tip section and write in the total always. This is actually the one time I forgot to do it and I got taken advantage of.
I recently went to this establishment to grab a drink with 2 of my friends from out of town. I was held at the door by the bouncer who was staring at me rudely. The minute I presented my ID he informed me that he did not like my energy!! Not sure how a bouncer could ascertain my energy. This has never happened to me before. I informed him he should just be evaluating my ID and not my feelings and he immediately became aggressive. I asked him for my ID and told him I would go elsewhere and I did not feel comfortable and he told me to get the F out of here. I felt it my duty to inform others about the way I was treated. Fyi - I had not been drinking at this was my first establishment I visited..
The Gin Mill is a typical college bar, thats not that close to a college at all. Its impossible to get a table after work, so arrive early if you have any hope of getting a table. Even if you have a table, service can be slow because theyre battling crowds so you may be better off ordering beer from the bar itself. I had the potato skins and they were average.
Just got bad service, took 20 minutes to get seated (had to ask to be seated) and get asked if we wanted drinks. The food was average, got burgers and they were very dry.The waitress was nice, but slow and I had to ask for a drink refill. Probably wouldn’t go back there again.
The most racist bar I ever been to in my life the security just turned me and my friends around because of the color of our skin....we were well dressed and they talked about a dress cold being code gap!!! Plzzz if your a African American do not go there!!!!! Plzzzz dont support that bar God bless
Let me put it this way...I scored my first night. Although my brothers wife cut it short when she walked into the living room admidst me balls deep into some type of Peru/Spanish Hawaii type (not the hottest) it was Definitley fun night and this is the type of place that could occur next wknd. I mean once the server couldnt even stop touching me and thats while my gf is sitting there! Yeaaah! This place just makes girls horny like UWS girls gone wild. Plus they have that Stanky buffalo chicken options...I might actually get a wrap right now
THE DEAL IS NOT THE DEAL....UNLESS OF COURSE AMERIKHAN SULTAN SAITHS THIS IS THE DEAL......UNTIL 8 PM E.S.T. ALL BAR IS 50%.KNOCK YOURSELVES OUT😘😘😘😘😎😍😍😎😂🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣 😘 WONDERFUL DEAL ONLY IN NEW AMSTERDAM (NEW YORK CITY) CITY SO NICE THEY NAMED IT...NOT TWICE BUT THRICE...ENJOY.

2022-06-28The Pubs Ambiente is nice but the cocktail prices and their size is just a joke.Below you find a picture of a pineapple punch cocktail for 9$ and it was their Happy Hour price?! Additionally of course with a lot of ice. (second picture)(Normally it would be 12$ ^^So there are two options:1. They are ripping off costumers within their Happy Hour with extreme small cocktails2. They generally rip off with extreme small portionsEither way never going back there and I recommend everyone, don’t do it.

2022-03-05This establishment has a bar right as you walk in and another down below. They have a selection of bar foods and a respectable set of beers on tap. I suppose its a fine beer to visit with friends. You can watch the game downstairs. But when theres a lot of people the main bar quickly gets crowded.

2022-05-21Four of us ordered food, nothing was great (though not inedible). Was there for happy hour but didn’t know that wouldn’t encompass cocktails, so a little bummed by that. Good place if you’re there for the beer.

2019-11-05They offer happy hour deals basically out of any reasons you can think of—which is coming from the true spirit of running a bar, I personally think. Beers taste how it’s supposed to be, and the foods are attentive to the classic while boasting their own touch.

2022-04-06My softball team comes here after games on Tuesdays. It’s our favorite spot in the UWS to share a pint and some apps. The service is fast and they always have enough seating for us.

2017-08-29For a private event - Held a surprise, Roaring 20s themed party at the Gin Mill, so fantastic. We needed almost no decoration, the private room in the basement behind a locked door, was fantastic. Beautiful, spacious, and the service was perfect. The manager assisted us with determining how to get the birthday girl downstairs without ruining the surprise. Our bartender was attentive, fast, personable, fun, and really great at suggesting drinks for the birthday girl as well! The set up and breakdown were easy with the staffs help, and the price of the event was completely reasonable for the great time we had. Most top shelf liquor was available for about $50/per person for three hours. The food was great, both the food that we ordered and the food that came with the event. There wasnt a lot of food included in the event buffet - dont plan on inviting 30-50 people and having a full dinner included in the price. But they did bring out a beer pong table half way through the evening, and the pitchers of beer for the games were all included. All-in-all it was such a great experience, would HIGHLY recommend for any event. The happy birthday sign you see in the pictures is ours, one of the only decorations we brought.

2022-04-11I came here a couple of weeks ago with my bestfriend and it was just as amazing as it was pre-Covid. I had the amazing Alyssa as my server and literally couldn’t have asked for anyone better, she recommended my bestfriend a couple beers since they didn’t serve the ones that she loved. She sincerely wanted us to have a great time there and enjoy everything that we had ordered. Can’t wait to go back.
