We had the most delightful dining experience at the grad tier restaurant thanks to our awesome server Buddy! He made great suggestions, offered helpful tips & advice, attentive service and the best smile in NYC!! The food was perfect from start to finish too. Highly recommend the beef tenderloin dish. Thank you Chef. We’ll be back again and again for many encores.
Food was excellent quality. Dessert was my favorite, especially the Baked Alaska. Drinks were also good. However, the portions were incredibly petite. It was not enough food to keep you satisfied for the length of an entire opera show plus the travel back to wherever you came from.
I really wanted to enjoy this restaurant ....but unfortunately I am NOT a FAN. I planned a special outing with my daughter to include Dinner and a Ballet. I made the reservation and even called to push the time back 30 minutes to avoid being late. We arrived on time and were seated promptly and were pleased that both the hostess and wait staff realized we had tickets for the 8:00 ballet. We opted not to do the Prix Fixe since neither of us are big eaters. We both ordered a First Course and opted to share a second course since we both wanted dessert. Our food came quickly and then everything went downhill. We received our soup and entree in a timely manner and were pleased that we had gotten our first two courses 50 minutes before curtain call....we requested additional bread when they brought the meal which we never received, as a matter of fact we were never approached by another waiter for 40 minutes. No one asked us about our meal or even filled our water glasses the entire time. After repeatedly trying to flag our waiter, ten minutes before curtain call we had to flag down a random waiter and request someone to bring our check, we were told it would come in just a few minutes. I informed them that we did not have a few minutes and that the service was very unsatisfactory. It is amazing what type of service you receive when you stand up and start putting on your coat. Our waiter told us that someone was supposed to be helping him although we never saw an assitant at any of his other tables. I do not want to play the race or gender card however we were two African American females sitting immediately adjacent to the wait station. He walked past us more than a dozen times with a water pitcher and servicing tables immediately around us but never made eye contact with us. Not a pleasant experience or what you would expect from a restaurant of this supposed caliber.
The veal was fantastic. Order it. The chocolate mousse cake had a nice soft texture but the flavor was a little overpowering , unable to finish it. Servers did a great job and Henry one of staff members was really friendly and made sure I had everything I needed in time for the show & during intermission he also made sure I made it back in time.
Went to Lincoln Center for the Salute to Vienna concert and made reservations at the The Grand Tier for dinner, afterwards. Ambiance, service and cocktails were all very good, as they should have been given the price level and reputation of this restaurant. The appetizers and desert were also good but the main course (braised veal) was barely edible. In fact, one of our guests did not touch it after the first bite. Given that this dish is typically made from an inexpensive cut of meat, extra care must be taken to prepare and serve it properly. They were clearly not up to the task, as the veal was extremely fatty, tough and tasteless. The plating was also lackluster with bland purees that had no discernible tastes. It was a long day and we did not want to extend the evening, otherwise the food would have been sent back.
Like other reviews, I found the apps and drinks to be great however our entrees were terrible. The salmon was clearly farmed. At this price point it should surely be wild. How disappointing. The rest of the entree was bland. Beef tenderloin entree bland as well. The beef was tasteless.
Unacceptable, and frankly incredulously rude customer service over email. I inquired about the entree option for vegetarians and the exchange left such a bad taste in the mouth, I decided to cancel my reservation on the spot. Ive never had such a poor service experience before - at any restaurant. Class-less.

2022-03-23Go pre-curtain for a more leisurely, early dinner. However, they’ll make a one course meal - or a chic dessert situation - work beautifully during an intermission. Excellent, attentive, and speedy service. It’s expensive, but you’re dining within one of the most spectacular cultural destinations in the world. Get the fillet mignon - by far the best entree. The salmon is also lovely. For dessert, the mixed berries are a big enough portion for two to share.

2022-06-11The Grand Tier is an exquisite restaurant experience during an evening of opera. Go for the pre-show dinner and have your dessert during intermission. Truly anything on the menu is cooked to perfection. It is as much an experience as it is a meal.

2022-05-16Very special place for a special night at the opera. Kind staff and wonderful location; perfect for pre-opera dining. All the dishes were wonderfully executed, including the sea bass entree.

2022-01-09I’m sorry by the manager, George, is annoying after you hear it for the 20th time while nothing can be done about the situation. This restaurant features CAVIAR in big bold letters at the top of their menu yet they “run out of it” at the beginning of the night. I can get caviar at many restaurants without issue. Places like Daniel Boulud, Benjamin Steak House, Petrossian, the Russian Tea Room etc etc etc never run out. I had Petrossian ship 4 servings to Ft Lauderdale. I had it at Eddy V’s and The Lobster Bar on Las Olas without issue. Nobody runs out- and their managers are sure to have enough in house. When your menu features caviar you would think it would be available. That’s the reason I went to the Grand Tier. Is NYC a third world country where one cannot get caviar? No, of course not. However, don’t bother with the Grand Tier. Not only do they under stock their menu but the food isn’t first rate. The performance of Tosca was fabulous but go where you can get all you desire to eat in Manhattan, the center of the universe where caviar is readily available.

2018-11-06I didn’t think I could top the experience of seeing an opera at the Metropolitan but indeed going for dinner at the Grand Tier before the opera really blew us away! The efficient service coupled with the delicious culinary delights made our night superb! I had crab cake appetizer and tortelli with veal topped off with chocolate mousse. Fantastic! Very pricey but entirely worth the price for an extraordinary experience. The Perfect Manhattan was just that! Then the opera, so convenient to eat then walk to the theater.

2019-11-16It should NOT cost $20 for a pre wrapped sandwich unless it’s wrapped with a $10 bill. $11 for a chocolate cookie! These prices are getting so high that I’d rather just run to PJ’s for a burger and French Fries, which is what I did at Akhnaten’s second intermission this past Tuesday.I’ve only been attending the opera since 2014ish, and I distinctly remember the salmon sandwiches costing $14, which at the time seemed like a lot. I see no reason for the rapid appreciation in these prices, and the near empty lines at intermissions tell me that I’m not the only person balking at these prices. While I do miss your excellent salmon sandwiches (hence the second and third star), I’d rather buy a couple sides (like the lobster salad) at Gourmet Garage at an intermission.

2016-11-26Ate here with my daughter before the opera. We were given a table at the rear and I had a view of the kitchen doors, though the place was not full. Meal was good. Not great. Very small portions. I am not a big eater so actually I was quite full, but I suspect some would leave hungry.Pros: Loved getting dessert at the intermission which gave us a chance to digest during the first act. No need to remind them that you need to make a performance time, since everyone is doing the same, and no concerns about making the curtain since youre already there. Attractive room, (though mainly all I saw was the kitchen doors.)Cons: over $200 (with tip) for 2 with one prix fixe meal, 2 appetizers (in sequence, for me), coffee and one glass of wine . Service was good though not particularly friendly. The place has pretensions of grandeur without actually being able to deliver at the service end. I might return if I was going to have agita about missing the curtain, but overall I think there are many better choices nearby.

2021-12-19Not bad, but a little pricey for what it is. Food was good, not out of this world. I got the wrong entree, they brought our dessert with a candle in it and said they heard it was someones birthday. It wasnt. Not what I expected for a $400 price tag.

2020-01-03I suppose when one pays $275 for a two-course price-fixe lunch for two (including two drinks, supplements, tip, tax, etc.) one is going to be inclined to like it - and I did. The food is quite good. Their sea bass is one of the best things I’ve eaten in a long time. The service was excellent. Our waiter was well-mannered and solicitous. But what you’re paying for is convenience and ambiance. It was true luxury to park below the Met and bring my elderly father up in the elevator for lunch, and then needing to take only a few steps to our seats. So was sitting in front of the vast windows of that mid-century palace, basking in the mid-winter sun. I am glad I did it once.

2018-04-03We booked a table at The Grand Tier for our fist trip to the opera house. We had the first time $55 promo (3-course dinner for $55) - this saved us about $40. The food was exquisite. Even with the promo my wife and I still spent ~ $270 on dinner... You get what you pay for. It was a treat and we cant wait to go back again.
