Positive: Great location for exploring the Chelsea/Meat Packing area. Negative: Hotel has the feel of a 100 year old dormitory. Lobby area is basically nonexistent. There is a small bar, but there are many better options nearby. The room we had was adequate in size, but the bed was incredibly lumpy; floor would have been better.
The Highline Hotel was so fabulous! Its a beautiful building with a delightful coffee bar that turns into a fabulous bar in the evenings! The staff was so friendly and helpful. The location is great, and there are so many shops and restaurants within blocks (The Chelsea Market was our favorite!). I would highly recommend!
This hotel was the best of dozens I have stayed in Manhattan. It is reminiscent of an Oxbridge college. Before you book, assess what youre looking for. The furniture, rugs, and fixtures may have patina or wear & tear that you would expect of antiques. If you are looking for faux vintage, this is not your hotel. In the summer, the tree-lined outdoor patio is a tranquil place to lounge over drinks and bites. In the morning, the double-decker bus serves coffee and pastries. Friendly staff with lots of great recommendations.
Fantastic stay! This hotel is absolutely charming. The staff is hardworking and helpful. I walked through the pretty front court yard and was warmly greeted. There are not formal porters milling about to fawn over you. The space is historic. It is spotless. The room (47) is magnificent. I highly recommend and I can’t wait to return.
Beautiful historic hotel but the staff doesnt go more than an inch to accommodate their guests. As a guest I asked for water while waiting in the lobby and they offered me some for purchase for $10. We stayed 4 nights and spent over $1k on our stay. Our room was awfully hot as well without a fully functioning AC. The hotel is beautiful and historic and the ambience is nice. The location is excellent. As an interior designer myself I enjoyed the history and the decoration however the service was lacking and overshadowed our stay. There are other hotels for less with much better service and friendlier staff.
Positive: This hotel has so much character, and its only a couple of blocks from the High Line! We used the coffee bar and the cocktail bar during our two-night stay and thought both were great. Negative: It was really humid out the first day, and our bedding felt heavy, dense and a little damp. I wouldve preferred lighter, more summery bedding.
One of my absolute favorite hotels in the city and I have tried most of them. The rooms are so precious and the furniture is stunning. Also maybe the comfiest bad I have encountered period, They provide the coziest robes and slippers, amazing coffee to greet you in the morning. Really gorgeous building in a great neighborhood. Oh and of course the staff was fantastic, especially the guys at the coffee bar.
The outside of the hotel is very pretty, but it’s really not worth the price to stay there. The rooms are tiny, rugs ripped, sinks cracked, and paint bubbling/cracking on the walls. You also have to ask for them to clean your rooms & bring new towels. If you request anything to be brought to your room they will probably not do it, so you’ll have to go pick it up yourself.
We enjoyed our stay, but were disappointed by the aloof service and lack of amenities. The receptionist wasn’t particularly friendly or helpful. When we had a couple items delivered to the hotel since they don’t have room service, we were told to pick them up from the lobby ourselves as they wouldn’t bring anything up to our room. I had mentioned in the reservation that we were celebrating a birthday and it was not acknowledged at all.The room itself was beautiful and spacious, but sparse - not much besides a bed and some basic furniture, would expect more thoughtful touches from such a well rated hotel.
I would never stay here again! I received a call hour before my anniversary stay saying I was down graded from a suit to regular room. When I arrived the room was small bathroom sink broken, walls in the shower stained with mold, bathroom light super dim can’t see to do make up, old furniture trying to look hip and missing the mark. Only thing good is outdoor space for coffee!
This place is entirely overpriced. Stayed there this past weekend and what they charge for the rooms should be a crime. There is barely enough room to turn around in some of these rooms. The outside seating area is nice but NOTHING about this hotel justifies the price tag. Even for New York it is outrageous.
A truly bizarre hotel. Some initial positives with a charming interior. But,then below the surface you see the flaws. And the craziest thing is I called and asked why there is no water or anything in the mini bar/snacks etc…. They said it was all cleaned out for Covid. Bizarre. No water or anything available to protect us all from Covid. So, you have to drink the tap water with your hands from the broken sink to keep safe!
Very cool hotel right in the heart of Chelsea. Very friendly staff. Rooms are smaller than average, but if you like the style, it more than makes up for it. Really like the coffee shop come cocktail bar in the lobby. Would be nice to give a discount for guests given theres not tea or coffee facilities in the rooms. Will stay again for sure.
Historic, stylish and completely unique. Located steps away from the Chelsea Piers and the High Line Park. Very interesting and inviting lobby recalls the charm of the gothic style brick building. Plenty of outdoor space both in front where seating is cozy and coffee is served via an old double decker (which offers seating up top.) Additional and very quiet seating is at the rear garden. Hotel rooms are endearing with accent details are complimented by rotary phone for example, but with modern touches such as large flat screens. Actual books adore the mantel and take note that the interior lighting has dimmable switches. Wi-fi in lobby and rooms is free. Not to be missed.
I would never ever stay here again. The official check in time is 3pm, but I was not able to get in until 4:30pm. I never received any apology for the delay in the room preparation. I got a lame excuse for such delay, but no apology. The explanation for such delay and inconvenience was that the hotel was fully sold out, which meant the hotel was fully occupied to the extent permitted by the current covid rules. My take on this sorry excuse is that if the hotel is not ready to accept guests at the published check-in time because the house keeping crew cannot handle the demand, then it should not accept that many guests. The reception also told us that they were doing the best they could. Well, their best was not good enough when the guest had to wait 1 hour and 30 mins to get in the room she/he paid for. Such excuse is only valid if the guest is asking for something he/she is not entitled to have. The reception kept telling me to wait 10 mins more. When did 10 mins start to mean 90 mins? Having said that, one room out of 2 rooms I booked was ready on time, but not without trouble. The reception gave my mother the wrong room number and the keys to the wrong room,, so my mother had to go up and down to get the correct room number and the corresponding key. The reception kindly reminded me that the other room was ready when I complained about the delay in getting my room. I had no clue as to what she was trying to tell me. There is a reason why you book 2 rooms instead of one. Its because you want your own room. If I wanted to share a room with another person, I would have booked one room and pay for one instead of two! The reception staff also told me that she had tried calling me when the room was ready which was between 4 and 4:30. I never received any call from the hotel that day. I even took a screenshot of my incoming call history to prove that no such call was made. To add more stress to the situation, when my mother (72 years old) and I tried to use the restroom in the lobby, we were told to go elsewhere because the restroom was closed. I told her that we were guests of the hotel and she said that it was recommended that we use the restroom in our room.... At that time, not one room was ready for our use.... Further, the restroom was occupied by someone and we were waiting for that person to finish using the rest room. I was totally confused at that point. The rest room is open for some people but not for us???2nd review today. It turns out that the smoke/carbon monoxide detector is not working either. Its completely taped up. I took a photo of it in case theanagement reaches out to me. Decided not to complain to the front desk. Plus, the reception staff is on the phone constantly and doesnt even greet us when we enter the hotel. I have never seen a reception staff at a hotel glued to her phone. Unprofessional.
Good, but quirky hotel. In an old monastery, each of the hotel rooms is decorated differently and definitely rustic - in period with the building. General charm is great, (speakeasy feel) but my room (#11) was slightly lackluster given photos of other rooms. Cant speak to feel of other rooms, but was expecting slightly more. Bar in lobby shuts down quite early!
Giving 4 stars for my experience, although I expect that if I had stayed here under slightly different circumstances, this would be a 5-star review. Hotel is apparently a converted 19th century dorm and it definitely has a NY in the 1910s & 20s feel. The mosaic flooring in the lobby and the wood paneling are stunning. The guest rooms are also outfitted to reinforce that vibe. The outdoor restaurant and bar are charming -- I enjoyed a nice drink outside with a friend and it was perfect. They also have an excellent coffee bar inside with Intelligentsia coffee. All of this was perfect. Now for the drawbacks: (1) my room was on the first floor and was the first room off the lobby. There was no soundproofing and since the lobby is largely tile and wood I could hear EVERYTHING that was going on (people coming in late at night, the espresso machine starting up in early the morning), which wasnt great for sleeping. That being said, I didnt ask to change rooms after the first night, so thats on me. (2) there was no place to get a cup of tea before bed (coffee bar was closed & I was told the restaurant didnt serve tea). This is an extremely minor issue, but I was traveling for work and needed something to help me get to sleep. It would be great if the rooms at least had a coffee maker type set up as is common in more corporate hotels. Even so, I would definitely stay here again for personal travel -- its in a great neighborhood, easy walking to lots of stuff, and the property itself is very cool.
I travel around even intentionally but this place is not worth to spend a couple of hundreds dollar for a night. It must have administrative issue which I dont see any basic hotel preparations or general informations for the guests unless you ask. Wondered all employees are trained as hoteliers. Well, at least you may enjoy historical environment.
Gorgeous historic building with modern updates styled to match the original era. Rooms away from the street side are quieter, though much smaller - still room for a business traveler but these rooms are in huge contrast to the street side rooms which are quite large with spacious bathrooms but obviously more street sounds. Hotel is dog friendly, including lobby and the great espresso bar there, so expect to see pups here often.
Really dug the vibe of this place, all the great decor and lots of cute dogs always around the very popular patio and lobby were fun. Not sure Id stay there again just because the mattress wasnt good, and the floor of our (first floor) room was so creaky, it woke my husband anytime I got up and moved around. But its a really cute place and loved the service and the neighborhood!
It has a cute shabby-chic vibe, and is in a trendy area. On the downside, it is noisy, crowded due to the coffeehouse/bar, understaffed, and not very child friendly. The staff did their best to accommodate, and perhaps once they have been open a couple more years, theyll be a bit more efficient. Biggest suggestion I can offer is coffee pots in the rooms, no one wants to get dressed and wait in a long line for a coffee in a hotel. There are plenty of places that deliver though, which was lovely. Italian in 20 minutes was splendid.
What a gem! Great location in NYC, with an European-like charm. Feels like you walk into a time machine but with all the modern comfort. The rooms are beautifully decorated, the staff is so friendly and the whole experience was amazing. Extra plus for the complimentary city bikes that are available for hotel guests! We loved it and looking forward to going back.
Beautiful hotel in a beautiful area of Chelsea. The rooms are spacious with gorgeous hard woods, comfortable beds, and nice bathrooms. Weird part about the lobby is that there is no “front desk” per say. Everything is arranged by a member of the team from a computer in the corner. Otherwise really great stay!
I like the idea of staying at The High Line Hotel, but unfortunately our visit was a disaster upon check in. After having confirmed with the hotel that we would be able to pay at the property in cash, we were then turned away by the management stating it was a cashless hotel. The value of money is not defined in whether it is paper or plastic. After having taken time off of work and to travel, our visit was canceled. The incompetence & lack of understanding on behalf of the managment was & disgusting and unacceptable. Nothing was done to rectify or correct the mistake on their behalf. On a positive note, the exterior and lobby which was all we got to see was beautifully decorated. Would not book again.
Nice, cosy and old-school hotel just in front of the high line. It has a large reception, with a bar/cafe and a big outdoors terrace with a double decker used as a coffee shop during the day. Rooms are nice, although not very big, but well kept and contain everything I needed. Not your typical modern hotel, which is why it makes it unique! Worth a visit!
Hotel staff was always pleasant and accommodating. Accommodations were extremely clean! When calling for ice the ice was delivered in 5 minutes (4 times during 4 night stay). Will stay here again if available. Rooms had furnishings from original seminary. Very nostalgic hotel!
To be fair I didnt sleep at this space so I couldnt speak to rooms and such but I did attend a reception and symposium over two days. And, if the rooms are anything like the rest of the space youll be fine. In general it has a sexy, mysterious ambiance that feels like you are in a different world where a cocktail or 2 and chillin mandatory. Interesting architecture, helpful and fun staff to work with, plus intimate European vibe what else can you want. And as if for extra credit the space is part of a still functioning Seminary/Monastery, talk about pleasant surprise. All in all I think youll be happy with your experience here.
Quirky in a good way, this hotel has charm for days. The rooms are decent size which is unusual for NYC. Intelligentsia coffee from morning to afternoon in the lobby, then transitioning to a bar in the evening. Coffee space is good/cool enough that non-guests hang out in the mornings and afternoons.
I only visited the courtyard, which was gorgeous and welcoming with fantastic fall decor. I took one star away because the coffee hut was wildly overpriced, even for Manhattan. Two small black coffees and a cookie were $21. Lots of families with small children and behaved dogs.
Stayed here for one night on our drive home from the Cape. Stayed here three years ago and still had all the magic and cozy feel, but the beds need to be upgraded. The sheets were also scratchy like they have been laundered or bleach too many times. I probably wouldn’t stay here more than one or two night unless they updated the beds. Great for anyone traveling with a dog! Staff is super friendly.
This hotel is a real delight and historical, too!The rooms were extremely comfortable and clean and the staff was top-notch. Emily and Jevar would particularly helpful regarding the amenities and navigating sites to see in the area. I was hosting an older Japanese couple for the weekend and this hotel could not have been more perfect in terms of location, friendly staff, comfort and cleanliness. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again. If you are looking for someplace that will feel a bit like home this is the place.
The highline hotel is a beautiful historical spot. Ive only hung out at the lobby, where they have amazing coffee and tea in the day time, and great wines at night. Its the best coffee Ive found in Manhattan. Fresh, exotic beans, ground and served every day. Each day, a new exotic bean. The hotel staff is friendly and the everything about this hotel is great. I love this spot
The pros: Excellent location, outdoor spaces, and architecture. It’s a wonderful, tranquil setting. The interior courtyard is just gorgeous, a great place to read a book or have a quiet conversation. The front area is nice for drinks and coffee, with beautiful plants and a bubbling fountain. The brick exterior is “old Manhattan” that is so rapidly disappearing. Throughout the hotel, treasures are to be found, like the inscription in the staircase in memory of a 19th century Episcopal priest (the entire hotel had been a seminary.) Our room had charming details, like original mill work and a book stamp from the seminary. Very clean; no issues there. The cons: Aloof service, super expensive drinks, and small rooms. For what you pay, the rooms are small and hard to move around in. Our queen room on floor 5 had only one chair. Another pet peeve: no space in the fridge for your own drinks if you didn’t want to pay the 200% minibar markup (hey hotels: here’s an idea if you want to compete with Airbnb: don’t markup your minibar! We are already paying premium!) Finally, AC was super loud and rattly. On the pro side, it’s an old building with thick walls, so 10th ave street noise was minimal. The service was just poor. Check in is bizarre, at a computer off to the side where everyone can see your details on the screen. Our keys were turned off 2 hours before checkout. Our room wasn’t cleaned until 3pm, at which point we were already back from our day, which is a pita. To make up for the poor service, you get the sense that the hotel invests in gimmicks, like coloring books and free bikes. Love those things, but do service first.Final verdict: stay, but don’t pay more than 250 / night for the entry level rooms. Hang out in the courtyard, but BYOB. Adjust (lower) your expectations of service.
Review only for cafe part of hotel. Nice cafe with great outdoor space to enjoy your drink in front or in back in a quieter patio like area. Cafe turns into a pumpkin in the evening and becomes a bar. Outdoor seating on avenue part closes late morning as the restaurant opens.
I’ve heard great things about this hotel and wanted to book a room for my boyfriends birthday! Little did I know that we would be awake all night with our room reeking of marijuana and really loud neighbors. The window was broken and we had to prop it open with a Pringle’s can since we could barely breathe. I tried contacting the front desk multiple times to move but no one responded to us. I’ve yet to hear back from the hotel and I’ve tried to contact them multiple times this week to understand their policies about smoking. Had I known it was a smoking hotel, I wouldn’t have booked this room in the first place.
Unless you are travelling with a pet and need a pet-friendly hotel, this is not where you should stay during your time in New York. New York is known for its variety of options and trust me, there are plenty of better options than The High Line Hotel. To start, the hotel is deceiving. Because of its name and location, you are left with the impression that they are going to live up to the price tag they are asking. You would expect, for example, for the hotel to be clean at a minimum. You would also expect the hotel to be well managed and friendly. Unfortunately, they are neither clean nor accommodating. In fact, this is one of the strangest boutique hotel environments Ive ever been in where everything just feels off from the smell to the vibe to the entire experience starting with even the check-in process. It was so bad that I ended up checking out of the hotel early even though I was charged a penalty fee.Plus, if you are looking for an evening of rest while you are on your trip that is free of barking, then steer way clear of The High Line Hotel.
Amazing place to stay in one of the best neighborhoods of NYC. The hotel is very charming with a lovely garden and coffee. Very close to the highline and Chelsea market, as well as having a very good restaurant crossing the street. The hotel room is very comfortable and classic and the hotel is pet friendly which worked perfectly for me and my 2 shitzus. The staff was really helpful and friendly and all the hotel very clean.
Specifically relates to the outdoor cocktail bar yesterday (Sunday). The servers could have cared less if we were there, in fact completely checked out. These are Covid times, Management needs to be on the frontlines, servers are the face of the business. Training, education needed.
The hotel is really quirky, the rooms are very clean and you get good service. My rating is for the noise. I had an extremely noisy AC/heater unit and it was difficult to get good sleep. You can also hear it vividly in your room when your neighbor shuts their door- not a nice feeling at 2 am when youre already sleep deprived from the AC screeching.
In the last couple of days, I went to this hotel, and I greatly enjoyed my staycation there. The staff was very accommodating, nice, and friendly to the customers. Also, all the amenities, foods, and housekeepers were excellent and nice. Overall, this hotel was a very good place to visit again and again. Thank you so much!
We recently stayed at the Highline Hotel for five nights. We were excited to be in this part of town, and the hotel looked great: small, cozy, hip, and nice.It was very expensive, but we were competing with other hurricane evacuees, and we figured the price would reflect the service. The room was missing some amenities, and was very small, but nothing necessary was absent. We were pleased upon checking in and unpacking, and the bed was very comfortable.Beyond the retro-boutique aesthetics, our stay at the hotel will be remembered by the numerous issues that we faced. Most of these came from housekeeping, but upon notifying management, nothing changed.1.The day after checking in we left at 9am and returned at 3:30pm. The room was still not made up, and after requesting that it be, we had to wait in the lobby until after 5. I asked the staff if we could have our room made up by 11 each day, as that’s when our infant son usually takes a nap, and they said no problem. Later that evening I reminded them about the request, and a note was supposedly put in the system.2.The next day we left at 7am and came back at 11am. The room was not made up, so we waited another 30 minutes in the lobby, but finally, when we realized that it wasn’t going to happen, asked if it could be done by 4 pm. I talked to the manager, Kevin, about the issues, and he said he would take care of it and do something to make up for it. I don’t believe he did either.3.The following day, the room was made up by 11. That evening, upon turning down the bed, we realized there was no sheet on it. I called the front desk, and 15 minutes later a guy came up and handed me a sheet. I asked him if he could put it on, and he said he had other stuff to do. I said I would just put it on and he said, “Thank you.”4.The following day we returned to the hotel at 11:30, and asked the staff if the room had been made up, to avoid the trip up to the room. They told us yes, but upon entering the room, it was just as we had left it. We waited 30 minutes in the lobby until it was ready. I talked to the manager on duty, and told him I was very disappointed with housekeeping. He said sorry and that he would take care of it.5.We were charged 2x for the hotel. Once from where we booked it, and another time by the hotel for the total plus tax that we paid the booking website, plus tax, again. This second charge was supposedly removed, but is still on my credit card account.6.Although housekeeping could not do their normal job, almost every day they knocked on the door in the evenings to ask if we wanted our snacks replenished. One time the phone rang at 7pm and housekeeping told me that they had a hairdryer for us, and they wanted to bring it back. We had previously had one in the room. After discussing the issues with Kevin, one lady who worked at the front desk no longer greeted us or even looked in our direction when we passed through the lobby. Despite her, most of the front desk staff were very helpful, especially Kim and Alvin. The second manager that we talked to eventually told us that since we booked through a third party site that he could not do anything regarding compensation, discount, etc. He did say he would give us some credit for the restaurant, but did not say how much, and we never received any type of confirmation that it was there. Honestly, we did not feel that a free dinner made up for the issues that plagued the stay. At least he tried to do something. I imagine he is constrained by incompetent upper management.I wish I would have read more reviews before booking, because since 2014, the same issues are repeatedly complained about, and the manager repeated responds to the reviews that he will do something. I am sure he will respond with the same to this review, and ultimately nothing will change. This hotel could be excellent, but it appears those in charge have little interest in customer service.
Massively over priced. Stayed here as it was close my meeting. The room cost me £564 with taxes - yes it was very expensive so was looking forward to something really nice.I got back late from a meeting at 9pm I called down for some room service to be blown away that they didnt do room service. Given they are charging top rates for one of the most tiny rooms Ive ever had I was blown away. All they had was a tiny and I mean tiny coffee bar in reception. On check in I had to wait 40mins past my check in time. The sink was cracked and the room was generally tatty and tired. The bed was super super soft and lumpy. Please do yourself a favour and do not let yourself be ripped off by this place. A couple of trendy soaps and a fat towel does not make a good hotel.
I recently attended a wedding at the hotel. The venue and service were both spectacular! However, the food was horrific! Each course had potential but failed to meet expectations! Both hot courses were delivered to the table cold and paired with sour sauces that should have been both savory and silky smooth! The hype about this venue is clearly about the ambiance! However, if you’re a foodie, I’d suggest you book your lifetime event somewhere else! This opinion was shared by many at this event! Step it up Highline Hotel! You have a lot of competition in Manhattan! Also, prior to the reception, I ordered an espresso at the lobby coffee bar and it was sour! What is it with sour tastes at this hotel. How do you make sour espresso? Ugh!
Went to NYC for one night to see a concert with a friend. My room had filthy dark brown water for my whole stay. I could shower, wash my face or brush my teeth. The hotel apparently had a problem in the boiler but no one contacted me to notify me. They did not offer bottled water or any accommodation. They provided a partial refund but even after the refund I payed $180 to stay in a room with out the most amenity. Really disappointed by my stay, how the situation was handled while I was there and the lack of a full refund.
This is for the service in the outdoor garden, which was terrible. I asked about the happy hour and was told I could get 20% off wine and food, only to realize in the end that I had to pay 100 dollars for a terrible bottle of wine and 2 lousy sandwiches that reminded me of airplane food...when I enquired about it, they mentioned it was bc my order was put in 10 min before the actual Happy hour (which I was not informed of before). Come on, guys, these are tough times for your business, you cant throw cheap shots like that to your customers - you should want them to return more than ever! I sure wont ...(btw, they also have mice...)
Stayed here last night. Great place. My room was already loaded with goodies. All sorts of candy, snacks, drinks, even disposable bedroom toys. The fridge was filled and had a red bull, and all different kinds of beer, and the nightstand was fully stocked with small bottles of liquor. Nice fashioned theme going on with the stained wood, rotary phone, and decor. It also had a flat screen and a mini-jambox so we could Bluetooth our music to the speaker. Everything was great except the noise. I was on the first floor, room 7, right outside the cafe. Took away one star because it was cafeteria type of loud right outside my door. Maybe the higher floors wouldve been better.
Loved this cozy hotel in nyc! The beds/bedding were fluffy and wonderful, and the shower had great water pressure. Loved the homey decor — making it feel like I was staying at a friend’s country house rather than a sterile city hotel. Would highly recommend! I’ll be back.
Really nice patio where you can enjoy a coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening. Relatively large rooms for New York and in general pretty nice but frayed bathrobes and rugs, stained & broken shades, lumpy mattresses, broken electronics and single pane windows that let in the street noise are just not acceptable at the rates they are charging.
The hotel itself was nice enough, but they sneaked a $5 donation to a non-profit onto my bill. Notification was apparently was hidden in the fine print during registration sign-in, without explicitly asking me whether I wanted to opt-in. Such donations are not reimbursable for business travel, so I was forced to call them to remove the charge - which they were happy to do, but putting me in this situation in the first place is not appropriate.
I went to the coffee shop at the ground floor for an espresso. The staff was super helpful when it came to helping my wife and I find something to do. I also appreciated that they gave me a great espresso and that it came with a glass of lightly flavored water, like you get in Europe. Definitely a more unique experience.
I was here for the Intelligentsia Coffeebar. To get to it, you have to walk through the restaurant outdoor. Inside, the building itself is beautiful, and there is a nice courtyard you can sit in. Restrooms are available, but that made things tight with people waiting to order coffee and others trying to get to the restroom.
My husband and I stayed at the High Line Hotel last weekend. We were very excited to be staying in beautiful historic hotel, but were completely disappointed with our stay.Cons: Dingy and dirty. The floors were filthy with dust along the wall edges and food crumbs on the couch and between furniture. The rugs appeared as they were not vacuumed from the last guest. Furniture was missing knobs and the vintage couch was crusty. The duvet on the comforter was made with the opening at the top of bed, so I accidentally pulled it open when getting into bed. I wish this would not have happened, since I ended up seeing a stained comforter. This grossed me out the entire stay. Wall paper peeling off walls. Only one set of slippers (which were needed due to the dirty floors). Wifi was ok, but there were some moments were it was not working. The hallway outside of our room was not vacuumed once during our stay (as I could see the same crumbs/detritus there all weekend).Pros: The room was spacious. It was a corner room, so we had lots of natural light. The room was unbelievably quiet! The staff was always accommodating and welcoming. It was a rainy saturday, but luckily there were two umbrellas we could borrow for the day!Overall, our stay could have been better. The small details make a huge difference (such as cleaning between furniture and fixing broken furniture). I really wanted to love my stay, but unfortunately we will not be recommending this hotel until it is under better management.
Updated review from 11/30/20:Rosalie from Guest Services contacted me to say that I would only be charged for one night as per the cancellation policy. Seems like this was a Priceline issue and not the hotels fault. Comending Rosalie and Team and great service to resolve this issue. Thank you Rosalie! (I will not be using Priceline any time soon and will book directily with you and the hotel :) )----Original post:Got sick the day of my trip and cancelled travel to be safe given covid. Called hotel to try and cancel and they said I had to call priceline since I booked through them. Called priceline, priceline said they had to call hotel. Finally heard back from priceline that they had spoken to hotel and couldnt refund because I was a no-show, even though I had called in advance and policy clearly states that even if you are a no-show you only incur first nights charge, not the entire stay. Priceline/ hotel trying to ignore their own policy to not refund anything....
Very clean hotel. The old building charm rings strong. And is great Ive stayed there multiple times everyroom is different and equally amazing. As all the modern amenities you could want and super short walk to the high line. And to Chelsea market. Love this hotel its on my short list when my wife and I got to NYC
Well! I did not go to the Hotel specifically but ventured into the quaint, extraordinary coffee shop... it was oh so worth it! The place is beautiful and peaceful, considering its in the hustle and bustle of New York life. Im sure it is pretty pricey but if you have the dollars, its a definite yeah from me..
Great experience at a beautiful hotel. We were very happy with the brilliant location near the Highline which made for beautiful summer evening walks. The entire team did their absolute best to make sure that we were well taken care of. Nice amenities and a loaded mini bar if you need something and dont want to head out.
Really unique hotel with a old vibe. Restored furniture and floors throughout. Was previously a dorm I believe. I had the suite on Floor 5 which was larger and had fun old books and a typewriter. I could loudly hear the elevator open and close at night -- sounded like thunder. I had co-workers that were on the lower floor and had some complaints of hearing noise from the lobby all night. They have free Shinola bikes to ride around and can access the Equinox gym which is nice. The bathroom is small with limited shelf space. Really unique hotel but there are other hotels I would pick over in the area.
This was the worst stay I’ve had at a hotel. While checking in with Maximo, I expected a warmed, welcomed greeting, not a cold greeting and a demeanor that told me I don’t want to deal with you . Instead of being greeted with a warm welcome and a smile, your representative (Maximo R) was very short with me and seemed bothered by my mere presence.I booked my hotel for two nights and three days on HotelTonight. As I understood the deposit was set to be $150 for my entire stay. Upon check-in I was told by Maximo that it would be $300 for the deposit, opposed to the $150 I was quoted by Rosalie H. when I called prior to booking (I spoke with Rosalie twice).According to Maximo the deposit is $150 per night opposed to the $150 per visit quoted by Roselie H.I explained to Maximo that I booked on HotelTonight, and spoke with Rosalie who verified the $150 deposit due.Maximo was very short and lacked any form of compassion while I was visibly upset. When I asked to speak to the manager, he retorted “Well that’s the policy” and took off his mask to say “I am the manager” in the most condescending tone. Ultimately, I paid the $300 deposit. Massimos behavior was so off putting, I lost the excitement and joy of my birthday. Concluding my exchange with Maximo I was visibly shaken and upset. I had to excuse myself because I couldnt believe that I was being treated so poorly. He made zero attempts to help me or find a solution aside from paying a $300+ deposit on the room. $150 flat and $150 per night are very different and the price should be specified on your website. I gave your staff every opportunity to inform me of any amount due upon entry before booking a room in your establishment. I informed him the $314 I already paid to book the room, was nonrefundable. In the climate of COVID-19, where people are trying to persevere money, leaving was not an option. The same evening a guest of mine stopped by to celebrate my birthday. Upon entering instead of being greeted and welcomed, he was asked by Maximo “Are you dropping off a delivery?”. This is not an appropriate greeting. This begs the question(s):1. Why couldnt he have been a patron of The High Line Hotel? (If he looked like the “preferred” clientele, would he have been asked if he was dropping off a delivery? I think not.2. What are your hotels policies on greeting/check in?3. Is my and my guests experience the norm for your hotel?I thought Maximo was one bad apple in the bunch however I was mistaken. There is nothing on your website that states photography is prohibited. I would assume photos taken within common areas of the hotel would be not only allowed but encouraged. As a PAYING guest in this hotel, I expect that I can take pictures wherever I want with respect to privacy of others. Initially while taking pictures in the lobby we were not confronted by your staff to stop, I was complimented by one staff member, who went on to remark “we should enjoy the lack of patrons in the area as its usually packed”.A few minutes into me taking picture with my friend I am confronted by Monica. She walks over to us without introducing herself and says “you’re not allowed to take pictures in the lobby, it’s our policy”. I ask her to show me where it says I cannot take pictures of myself. She tells me, I can look it up. I felt that I was being racially profiled. I am a young, Black woman, and your staff treated me like I wasnt a true guest in your hotel, rather a dollar sign to be manipulated and disrespected every step of the way. If I am not allowed to take pictures in common areas1. I expect signs to denote that I cannot take phots2. All of your staff be on the same page – (Why is one person confronting me , and another complimenting me and giving me tips? After getting home, I called AGAIN to verify the price of the deposit. Once again I was quoted $150. I have been obviously overcharged! I am disgusted, hurt, embarrassed.
I wasnt sure what to expect - candidly I went in a little apprehensive, but optimistic. I absolutely LOVED this place. I had such a peaceful night sleep; super friendly staff; great amenities in the room; not overly commercialized; great neighborhood friendly vibe. I will definitely return.
Beds were amazingly comfortable. Also loved the colouring book and pencils in my room! Beautiful building, great attention to detail in the styling and in a great location for Chelsea Market. My room overlooked 10th Ave so there was some noise. Also the wooden floors are an attractive feature but really noisy if someones walking about in the room above yours late at night. The lack of room service was annoying. Didnt realise when booking that the gym was actually passes for one down the street - as it was snowing while I was there it wasnt as easy as Id anticipated to work out.
We went to the show Enigmatist at the High Line Hotel. We didnt stay at the hotel so I cant honestly give it a full review. However, the hotel is gorgeous, the hospitality was top notch, and the bar was fantastic. We hung out in the bar for an hour before the show. There was a great mix of regulars, guests and people there for the show. It is dog friendly and we were greated by George, French bulldog and unofficial ambassador. It was warm and inviting. The wine and cocktails were great. The next occasion we have to stay the city we will definitely stay atcthr High Line!
I’d avoid this place if youre traveling for business, scratch that just avoid this place all together. Overall very loud. Old fixtures that are literally falling apart, musty smell, very loud heater/ air con unit, absolutely no sound proofing on windows ( construction going on ON the same street as hotel), and of course the problem of the little fury friend.I was given a room on the first floor upon arrival. The noise from the coffees shop/ bar travels to your room as well as the street noise that youre exposed to as youre literally on street level. I asked for a room change after the first night and was informed the hotel was fully committed. Interestingly on the same day, I spotted something moving across the floor from the corner of my eye and soon realized it was a rat. I filed a compliant and was provided another room on the third floor. The room was smaller and it ended up being much louder than the room on the first floor. With the construction on 10th ave, the excavator made a loud beep beep beep melody every time it hit reverse-- which was almost every other minute starting from the crack of dawn. The sound was as loud as my phone alarm and I was left sleepless for the remaining two nights-- but hey at least the room was free of rodents, or was it? ill never know and I wont be back to find out. I wish I read the one star reviews as there was clear warning of rats. As the review states they seem to crawl under the small crack at the bottom of the old wooden doors. The room also has a musty, moldy smell which im assuming is coming from the unused fireplace, which I was also worried would serve as a tunnel for the rats.Lastly the faucet in the bathroom sink was how would i put it.. not secured into the sink unit and everytime id try to turn the water on the faucet unit was yanked out from the sink.Sure the place has history and its a great photo op but id probably get a cup of coffee, take a quick snap and stay somewhere else where rodents arent a problem especially at this price point.
I stopped by Ingos the outdoor bar for a drink and snack. The food was terrible!!!!! The worst charcuterie and cheese I’ve ever had. I was surprised- how hard can it be to source better meats and cheeses in new yoke and especially Chelsea? I also had a premixed lemon slush drink- probably a bad choice but it was worse than it sounds. I was hoping the olives would be good but they also were terrible. The server did not offer any concessions nor did the manager when I politely told them how bad I thought the food was. I would not recommend. So many better places in nyc at this price
We were here to attend a magic show at the Highline Hotel. The staff were very accommodating and showed us where to go with enthusiasm. We had time before the show so we had drinks at the bar. There wasnt much seating available and it was a little tight but it matched the rustic aesthetic of the hotel.
The location is perfect. Upon our arrival, we were informed that we were being given a complimentary upgrade to a suite. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Above all great value. I highly recommend the Highline hotel to anyone visiting NYC who wants an authentic experience.
Popped in to try the bar out as it came recommended after a long day in and around the area, and we were scoping out staying here for our next trip. The place looks great, but the bar itself was small, cold, noisy and unfriendly. Sure the hotel itself is amazing, but the bar is definitely not a destination if youre not a guest, and didnt really give us any reason to want to return, with all the choice available elsewhere.
Omg I absolutely loved this hotel Rose at the front desk handled all our needs for my wife’s and I Anniversary weekend. At the end of our stay she allowed us to have the hotel robes free of charge 🥰. This was a beautiful and amazing weekend I recommend this place 5x over
Love the room. The deal that brought us in, the Enigmatist, a big disappointment. 1. The seats I bought were not the seats that were delivered. 2. The show is not well video choreographed 3. The “perk” for being a subscriber was not delivered.Ultimately the best trick of the night? I was duped from the experience that I paid for...handsomely.
One of the two places in the city where Intelligentsia Coffee is located. Worth checking out for that alone, even if you dont stay or meet anyone at the hotel, but simply like a good cup of coffee, and happen to be in the area. There are patio areas both in front of the hotel, and in the backyard.
Large, boutique styled rooms filled with charm. Stayed for 7 nights and enjoyed every minute. Excellent location in Chelsea, away from all the tourist traps; a hotel for a more experienced Manhattan go-er. Restaurants nearby are great, and the Meatpacking offers a great party night of booze and debauchery. Only downfalls; construction on the building across the road (noisey, but temporary); lobby is a coffee shop, which is excellent but I want a bar to relax in (drinks are provided, but its not the same).Would stay again.
Great location, cute place, unique rooms but terrible place to stay. You can hear everyone around you talking to each other in detailed converasation as the walls are paper thin. If you’re on the 1st or 2nd floor you can hear lots of pots & pans clanking until midnight. On any floor you can hear footsteps, toilet flush, talking & someone sneeze. I’m in a $700 dollar a night room & my response to the complaint about the noise was, it will eventually end. It’s a bit like a collage dorm house. The best thing I can say is come during the day as a guest, for coffee.
Our only experience here, two years in a row, is coming for the Easter Day festivities. While it gets crowded, a sign of a good event, we enjoy it along with the free pastries, coffee, strawberry milk Etc. This is more of a review of the family focused Easter festivities. Good fun, better get there early!
We love staying at the High Line hotel. The Highline Hotel is centrally located. The staff were very friendly especially in the coffee bar in the lobby which made for enjoyable morning coffee. I include their teams in the above as they were all wonderful and happy to give advice as to what to see and do.
The place looks great, the terrasse is nice but the service is TERRIBLE!!! We waited 20 minutes before the waiter came to take our orders, there were dirty tables and they DO NOT accept French and Canadians because apparently Non-US ID are not accepted in NYC! Too complicated, we LEFT ! Make sure you cary your valuable passport to this terrasse.
What a Gem for otherwise insane Manhattan. I was there for a Holiday party in December and felt like I would run into Harry Potter at any moment. Lots of warm intimate places to just hang out and people watch in an incredible complex. I am still not sure how big it is or how many buildngs the complex is made of. The room our party was in reminded me of a cross between Hampton Court and Windsor Castle. It was a short walk from the main entrance thru the lobby, thru a beautiful courtyard up a grand staircase and all along the way candles we lit our path. Oh yes, the food and the employees were great. All in all it made my Hanukkah-Christmas spirit happy.
A fancy smancy hotel that was an older building converted to a modern hipster-esque hotel. Its a bit pricey I stayed here because work paid and it was within the allowed budget. Great spot close to everything. Rooms and building are old which is great for decor but amenities inside room also felt old specifically the bathroom and lack of light I often felt I was taking a shower in the dark.Pros: close by meat packing district and high line, walk the high line in the morning, intellegnsia coffee at the bar in the morning with great baked goods, bar at night, close walk to subway, great neighborhood, 3 blocks from chelsea market, next to cookshop (get the lamb burger), old and rustic, free wifi no pwCons: old and rustic, awkward front desk, bathroom, lighting, 2 AC units...very confusing, not much of a view
While a quaint, older hotel, this is not a place to get a good nights sleep if your room faces 10th Avenue. The traffic noise, sirens and construction can’t be avoided, but the hotel also has a sitting and cocktail area directly in front of the rooms where people congregate and their conversations can easily be heard ... unfortunately into the wee hours of the morning. I requested a change of rooms (we booked two for four nights at at over $3K), so needless to say we could have stayed somewhere much better for that price.Sleepless in NYC ...
The Highline is my favorite hotel in NY. Rooms are clean. The rooms are beautifully decorated to maintain the old world comfort, wood-hewn feel of the seminary building. The staff was helpful and polite as we navigated the grounds. Special mention for Nathan who could not do enough to help.
We had to be within walking distance of Chelsea Piers and chose The High Line Hotel. The adjacent Meatpacking District is loaded with hip restaurants like Dos Caminos and Buddakan as well as shopping at any of the designer boutiques like Jeffery and Diane Von Furstenberg. The staff is such a delight and the ***ager was a rare kind of sweet, the kind you dont find anymore. The historic building and the grounds plus the location make this the perfect hotel to stay in NYC.
This is the only bar I do to on my own. It has the best atmosphere, comfy couches, French bulldogs running around, cozy rugs, and two old fashioned type writers. Intelligencia during the day and bar at night. Free Wi-Fi. Always a great option when in the gallery district.
Room was small like all NYC hotels. Location great. Price competitive. Internet worked. Comfy bed. Attentive staff that also does afternoon bed turndown and ice fetching. Stayed there twice so far and plan to come back there again the next time Im in NYC for a work trip.
Stayed here for a weekend with a friend and felt like I was in Europe except the room was huge. We were upgraded to a suite with THE most comfy bed I have ever slept in. The bed was amazing and an additional bonus of a late check out made for a luxurious Sunday morning.
I only gave a star as that is the only way to Post if I could I would give negative stars!! Awful Experience and I am embarrassed I sent my son there. No good deed goes unpunished. Booked through hotel tonight as my son wanted a place to sleep in late and get a good rest before he starts work tomorrow as we had company. Room was so loud he couldn’t sleep and came home exhausted! $350! Sounded like he was next to a kitchen! Called to complain and told no managers are on site? Can you imagine no managers on site at a high end NYC hotel?? I called the front desk before booking on hotels tonight to ask directly about the room and make sure it would be ok- I said as long as he can sleep in.... they never said anything about noise! Still waiting for a manager to call back?! Maybe those areas should not be used for rooms? No hotel should have rooms in an area of such high public traffic where the noise is a given and cannot be controlled and they certainly should disclose they are LOUD rooms!!!! And there should always be a manager or at least assistant manager on site to speak to! Beware - no service no customer service and apparently no managers watching the store! Too bad such a lovely building wasn’t better laid out to make the rooms usable for guests to rest.Update: I had asked for manager to call back today as tomorrow I am at work. They called back to tell me he would call back tomorrow.Update: after four phone calls with HighLine and two 30 minute calls to Hotels tonight we have at least the intent of a refund. The General Manager of HighLine did call me back and arrange the refundhowever it was refunded to hotel tonight and after two phone calls three representatives and 50+ minutes we have an email saying they will send the credit to our account. We will know in 5-7 business days if the Credit goes through.... fingers cross...holiday not stress free as this endeavor intended to provide....
After staying at many other swanky hotels in the neighborhood, Im happy to report that this hotel nails the important bits - hot, high pressure water in the shower, excellent and very comfortable bedding, etc. Closer to staying at home rather than experiencing a bleak future.
Great hotel and the environment was perfect, the drinks were really good, I knew what the room were like cause I got a tour before I booked so I knew what I was getting into before I booked the hotel, and the friendliness its unmatched, so great job guys keep up the great job..
I was recently here for an event as a part of the NYWFF and boy, is this space impressive. The overall layout feels massive, and the old school historical nature of the building makes this one charming space. I hope to have the opportunity to come back again for another event in the future.
The High Line Hotel is a designers dream. Coffee and a curated outdoor space create a little oaisis in the busy Chelsea neighbourhood. This tucked away little hideaway is located on 10th avenue between 20th and 21st streets, and is a lavish getaway. Service at Intelligentsia, in the hotel lobby, and the seasonal outdoor Alta Linea are impeccable, and the beverages are not to be missed!

2022-06-23Remember to use ʜoᴛᴇʟʙoʟʟʏ.ᴄᴏm when booking a place. This site will compare thousands of booking websites and usually will have prices much cheaper than others! Thank me later! This place is one of the best in this area. I have been coming here for years. If you stay for a few days you for sure wont regret it.The customer service was exceptional. Frank Kelly greeted us on arrival, made sure our bags were secured until our room was available and provided all the information we needed to find our way around. The rooms are spotless and the atmosphere relaxing and beautiful. Great coffee too. Don’t know why anyone would stay anywhere else.

2022-04-13The friendliness of the staff put this experience above the expected, beautifully appointed, well located stay. Our room over the courtyard with its grand, old sycamore tree was luxuriously quiet. If you love rugs and antiques this place is worth a nights stay. Loved the stamp embosser, and dont miss the grand hall before you leave. Could have been Hogwarts!

2022-06-07Stopped in for some cocktails to escape a hot NYC afternoon! Easily accessible from the high line, we didn’t manage to get a seat outdoors but they do have lots of outdoor seating as well as indoor near the lobby bar! The only downside is the lack of restroom facilities in their lobby. There is one all gender restroom, so prepare for a line up!

2022-05-10Fabulous hotel, great location. Comfy bed and spacious room. Lovely garden bar and surrounds. Good location, quite a few eating options close by, short walk to markets and restaurants. Love the styling in the rooms and hotel...great place to stay, would stay here again!

2022-06-05The room was clean and the service was great. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The corner room was spacious with plenty of natural light, but unfortunately too close to the noisy streets. From what I heard, the garden facing rooms were quieter but also smaller.

2022-04-19Hotel decor is beautiful but unfortunately, its far too noisy to sleep here. I stayed the first night facing 10th Ave which kept me up all night with street traffic coming through the single panned windows. The second night I moved to a courtyard facing room on the first floor which was still incredibly loud due to the noise from the lobby right around the corner. Not through with my stay but looking forward to finally sleeping once this stay is over!

2022-05-13The high line hotel is a pretty building from the outside and has some character from the inside. The check-in is pretty smooth. Considering the standing of the hotel being offered either one room that is literally right in front and above (on the first floor) the terrace of the bar that closes at 11:00PM or the room on the same floor in the corner facing the ice cream machine of the same bar (see photos) is a HUGE disappointment. In both room you can hear people talking in the corridor and on the bar terrace as if they are in the room. Needless to say everyone can enjoy a nice view on your room. For the claimed standing of the hotel choose other options unless you like promiscuity and noise. Otherwise rooms are clean…!!!

2022-04-06This hotel could easily earn five stars. Its got all the ingredients. But a few major flaws hold it back. Install in-unit AC units so we dont have to keep the window open all night on 10th Avenue -- which is very loud -- and offer basic amenities like a glass for water in the bathroom. Really, no water glass? Why?

2022-05-04This hotel is overpriced and feels like a rundown building. The furniture is super scuffed up and looks like a 1800 building. They don’t have individual AC/ heat so we didn’t have AC when it was getting close to 80 degrees. It also faces 10th avenue so it’s pretty loud. No real lobby, no complimentary coffee or breakfast. This is more like a 2-star motel that you only sleep in.
