Based on some google reviews and yelp reviews, we came to try their special cocktails. They had cute outdoor seatings which we enjoyed. They had very friendly servers. So, we looked at pictures and wanted to try some attractive drinks they had but most of the drinks we wanted were not there anymore. When asked to server, they said those pictures in google were a year old so they didnt have those drinks anymore. But their menu still had more drinks to try so we ordered few different drinks. Well, they had $2 off until 7pm for bites and drink but dnt be confused that $2 off was not for the cocktails that we had 😩. However courtesy of bartender who gave us some house shots. Would love to come later for more of their drinks.
I came for brunch on a Sunday around 2 and it wasn’t busy. Staff was fairly nice. I got the shrimp and grits which surprised me at first because I was under the assumption it would look like the normal bowl of shrimp and grits. But listen here! Though a small portion, it was the Bomb. I was shook. The sauces covering the platter married nicely and my only regret is I didn’t have more. My friend had the chicken and biscuits and she did enjoy. We both got a virgin pina colada but that was little of a disappointment. I’ve never gotten one that wasn’t slush like. Then again I’m not much of a drinker so maybe thats normal. The couple diagonal to us didn’t seem to favor their drink much either. Other then that, I would recommend on the food ( though portions are small)and atmosphere alone!
She just told me I can’t be here coz it was a private party. Which is not on any doors or website they have right now. But they’re open til midnight. Even they’re grade pending they have the power to do a party over here. Nyc food protection. Hello! Maybe you’re neglecting some bars around here. It’s 2022 already! C’mon guys!
I got the fried chicken sandwich with taro chils. I really liked the taro chips, and Id come here again.Atmosphere is loud, and the spaces between tables is tight so Id come here during an off hour if possible. Also no place for big coats so you might to keep your coat on the whole time
I had a urge for Hawaiian food while in Queens and found Highwater. First off I must say there aren’t many Hawaiian restaurants in the east coast so when I do have a craving it’s not easy to satisfy and most places aren’t even nearly authentic - unfortunately The Highwater isn’t the exception. We ordered the standard Hawaiian comfort foods - Loco Moco and Tuna Poke. Both were sub par and not close to authentic. The base of both - the rice was wrong and mushy soggy. The gravy for the loco moco was wrong - light colored and tasteless plus they didn’t give enough. The tuna poke marinade was also wrong - lacking authentic flavor with added what seemed like thick teriyaki sauce? In summary come to Highwater for the atmosphere, drinks, service, other foods but NOT for the Hawaiian eats!
Fun place. I had one of the best burgers Ive had here. Perfectly cooked and delicious, came with toro fries. The fish tacos were great to. Interesting beer selection and drinks. The service was great but must say I was here late and it want to busy. Spilled my beer on the bar and they cleaned it right away and gave me a new beer without even asking. Fun place to grab a drink or a bite and hang with friends. The bartender was chatting which was cool.
Had blast here for a birthday dinner. Food, drinks, music was AWESOME! The open indoor/ outdoor tropical beach bar vibe was perfect for the beautiful summer friday night. We opted for indoor for the music vibe - after all it was a celebration. It was lively and music was just the vibe we wanted.Service was good. Started slow and there was a mix up on the order but really wasnt a big deal.Heard the happy hour is great - Ill be back to find out for myself.
I have gone to the Highwater multiple times I’m so excited to have the opportunity to review them once more here on Google. I have never needed to make reservations in order to eat or get drinks here. Every time I’ve visited them, I have been able to get a table even on a busy night. My favorite drinks from them I can’t remember from the top of my head. But I have tried posting them in order to serve them justice. My first time visiting this restaurant/bar was a Tuesday raining night, I remember looking it up on yelp. When I walked in it was empty I would say there was only one other person there. I still decided to walk in and give it try just because there’s not many people there it doesn’t mean it is not worth giving it a try. I remember I was there for tacos and their taro fries that are so delicious. But meanwhile I was waiting I decided to order this panda drink that I don’t think is available anymore. That drink was one of a kind and strong enough to satisfy an alcoholic beverage but also a balance between sour and sweet. I wish they would bring it back. The other times I have gone here I’ve gone as a pair and a group of friends and everyone I’ve introduced to this restaurant has left satisfied. They have always had the best bartenders, the only ones I haven’t enjoyed are the guy bartenders they just weren’t as skillful in making the drinks as good as the last two women. Andrea I believe is her name has always been the best she is friendly, professional, and diligent in making sure the customers have what they need and are satisfied. I have even came here for dinner and it was always good their fish tacos are great, as are any other type of tacos. Their taro fries are like the best invention because their, soft, a bit crunchy, and healthy all at the same time. I have always enjoyed their chicken sliders they are so good too. What I love the most about every one of their dishes is that they are a great combination with the drinks. It’s also like eating healthy but good food at the same time. I also like the vibe because the people that come here are from all different backgrounds and no one is treated indifferently by any employees. They have little hangers at the bar for your belongings which is very thoughtful in my opinion. The restaurant is always clean and smells very good. They always play very good music. I would recommend this to anyone on the weekdays, weekends, celebration, whatever is the reason why you want to go out have good drinks and good food.
Went here for brunch on a rainy Saturday and the 3 of us were seated right away at around 11:30 am. The place was moderately busy but had a few 2 people tables vacant. For drinks, we got the Mimosa Bottle service which was moderately priced at $24. The orange juice felt like it was fresh. We also got the Mango Salsa dip ($7) which is served with Plantain and Tortilla Chips. The plantains were good and they should probably just drop the tortilla chips option and just serve plantains. We shouldve seen their menu before going here for brunch, because their dinner menu looks so much better than their brunch menu. For mains, I got the Big Island Burger and requested for a lettuce wrap instead of the Burger bun ($15). I never got my lettuce wrap though. Thats my only disappointment with this place, that the service on this particular day wasnt that great at all. Food on the other hand was pretty decent. The place is also not too loud so you can have conversations with your friends. Will definitely visit again for dinner!
This place has great food, great service and upbeat atmosphere. The waitress was beyond friendly and attentive to my wife and I. It was not an annoying and fake attentive like many establishments but a genuine “I really care about your experience and welcome feedback to make our service better” attentiveness. I believe her name was Brenda. Great gal! The food, we had the best damn truffle fries ever, with the porkarrific belly tacos and the squid! Holy Highwater Batman! The squid was excellent! The drinks were very well balanced and certainly hit that spot.
Lovely place to sit and chat with friends! Love the look and menu options. Drinks were great! Food was amazing as well. Good service and accommodating staff.Only issue that I just now noticed, when the bill was split with my friend, I used a card while my friend used cash. The cash portion also included the tip as well for our joint bill balance, but because I didnt put a tip on the card, someone decided to add a $8 dollar tip on top of the amount charged on my card. This is just plain greedy. Now I need to ensure to use cash here if I ever go back.
Really dig the vibe of this place both before and during COVID. Drinks made well for tasting and no shortage of options. The staff in general is attentive and professional. The atmosphere is a mix between fun hang out and also Im here to have a great time. Would suggest stopping by this place for sure.
Uniquely Elevated Drink offerings! Chill Vibe paired with amazingly delicious food. Great place to decompress after a long day of work. Best Happy Hour! The Bartender who created the drink menu was there and explained her though process when crafting the drinks, No wonder they are so amazing.
This is a great little tiki oasis in Astoria! It has a great vibe. The staff is friendly (George is the best) and the bartenders are awesome. We had several first bites; edamame, chipotle chickpea taquitos, spam musubi and two second bites; chicken empanadas and taro nachos. Everything was so delicious, 5 stars for food alone! Then the cocktails... As I said the bartenders are awesome. We tried several different cocktails, actually more like most of the cocktail menu, and each one was better than the last. (I think my favorite was called Havana oh nana).Love The Highwater!
Had their nutella French toast, which are great! In my case, sharing was key, because otherwise it would have been too sweet. Staff was very friendly, decor is super charming and hip, drinks were strong and good. Will visit again and try something savory. I used the tables outside, if you go during summer, its lovely. Will try at a different season, if possible.
Really great place for drinks AND food! Loved the vibe; it’s like a little tiki outpost in Queens. I ordered the Asian slaw salad with dressing on the side, and they accidentally didn’t put it on the side so we got a free dessert (the monkey bread! it is DIVINE but extremely hot when it comes out, as a fair warning). The drinks come in fun glasses and the small and larger plates are all worth trying (fried chicken sliders, chickpea taquitos, and mango salsa are awesome). Safe for peanut allergy sufferers too - they are careful about that. One minor thing though - we went on a Friday night and the music was WAAAY too loud! Was pretty much screaming over the table the whole time. Then again it is NYC so that is somewhat to be expected in many of these cooler gastropubs.
I am living right next to the bar and come with my friends pretty often. Today I had I night I wanted to come by myself all alone and I had the worst experience ever.I was sited at the bar, as I requested at the entrance. Two ladies bartenders were talking about personal stuff, laughing and did not pay attention approximately for 15 min.No hi, no tap water, no nothing.Until the guys next to me called them out loud and asked to refresh the drinks. At this point ladies finally noticed me and suggested me to order. I ordered drink, tacos and tap water. I got my drink after 15 min. Still no tap water. I had to remind the lady at the bar, what I am simply thirsty and need water and she took her time to call the host and she FINALLY gave me water. In 30 min bartender lady called one of the colleges and right in from of me reminded him in Spanish that there is my order somewhere and I finally got it after a very long waiting. But the most wonderful thing about this night was 4 people, who entered the bar and I was asked to move from my chair to other one I order to accommodate the company, and guess what! They got the water SAME SECOND the had their sets. It’s very pity, that the bar in general is interested only in people who spend more money. It was one of the worst service experience in my life.
So I live in the neighborhood and have come to The Highwater regularly since it opened. My experience here is always amazing!! The team at the Highwater always greets me so warmly and makes me feel like family. I always feel so welcome and let me tell you - the service is UNBEATABLE. The cocktail menu is innovative and every cocktail is delicious, perfectly boozy, and well-balanced. From the hosts to the servers to the bussers to the bartenders every single person is friendly and attentive. Came in tonight and got to taste a few drinks from their new seasonal menu. Check out the Flames of Twilight cocktail. It is smoky and INCREDIBLE. My partner ordered the Outlaw and it was an instant favorite. If you’re looking for the perfect vibe for a Friday night - look no further. The Highwater is the place to be. The service. The atmosphere. The tunes. The people. The cocktails. Come here and live your best life.
Amazing, beautiful, artsy bar food!Staff so friendly and attentive you will miss them. Came here once before and our waiter actually remembered what we order last time... 6 weeks ago! Talk about attention to detail! Bellow is a picture of their gourmet Pork Belly Tacos they are so tasty you may need rehab to stay away.
We recently visited this location for Brunch. I had drove by it many times and was curious to try it out. Unfortunately, my experience at this location was not great. The food and service was good, but I ordered a mixed drink it came with a hair in it. We immediately sent it back and another one was brought over, the waiter apologized but did not even offer to discount the drink which would have been nice.We then decided to order a desert before leaving and to our surprise there was another hair in it. The waiter apologized for the hair and simply blamed it on the wind? He said he would take it off our bill but didnt offer to bring another one just brought us the bill. Which to me was very unprofessional. It was a huge turn off and definitely left us feeling as though its not as sanitary as it should be. Hair nets should be mandatory for anyone handling food. We will not be returning.
Really excellent, they have great and interesting cocktails, awesome staff, really really delicious food (a great surprise for me because I was worried based on the menu descriptions, but they are really brilliant combos of flavor). My only issue is they have NO beer on tap, a bummer for me who loves freshly poured beer.
Let me preface this review by satiating that the vibes of this place are really nice and so are their frozen drinks. The service was atrocious. Long waits and un informed wait staff. When my food finally arrived the truffle fries did not only have a HAIR in it it was a whole clump. My big kahuna burger was dry and tasteless. If you need a cute pre game spot maybe you can come here. food ? don’t waste your time or money. but let’s be real, a restaurant that’s serving clumps of hair isn’t the most sanitary place so let’s just not go here at all okay? don’t waste your time or money. I would suggest legit any other place on this strip.
Thank you to Anaria, Julio and Janina for the most amazing experience and service. The food was so bomb and tasty. A definite gem in Astoria. The vibes are immaculate. From the moment we were greeted they were so sweet we will be coming back for more food and drinks. There was nothing I can say wrong about my experience and this is my second time coming but won’t be my last,
The atmosphere is nice. The cocktails are quite strong. I didnt order food, so that might be a factor, but after two drinks I stood up to leave and suddenly felt them, you know? Those drinks were delicious, though I ordered two that were supposed to have spicy elements that did not come out in either.
Food was not bad, dont expect good service though. The reservation told us we had to be there by a specific time, we arrived to the restaurant several minutes earlier than the supposed time and the hostess gives us a different time frame. We were somehow late so we had to wait even longer. Staff seemed overwhelmed and lost. Server took over 20 minutes to get to the table to take our order. They even forgot one of our entrees so we waited yet again. If you can bypass all of that, food is okay.
We came here as a pre dinner tapas like spot. And we spent more here than dinner. The food was creative and delicious. From the taro fries to the chicken wings, each dish had a unique twist on a delicious flavor.Shishito peppers are an absolute staple, the beef sticks were also delicious and the taro fries are a MUST try. Also a great place to try out some spam musubi. Now to the drinks. The real show stopper. Quite frankly the service alone blew my mind, honestly seconds after we ordered our drinks floated on in. So thats already a great thing, the servers were incredible and then we talk about the actual taste of the drinks. Each drink was well balanced, tasty and all in all, FRIGGEN delicious. I think we tried every drink on the menu, though the details get a little hazy.Overall a fantastic gastro experience.
Went here with friends one Sunday for lunch. I’m on a diet and salads tend to be boring so I wasn’t expecting much, but the Boggo salad, was amazing. it was delicious and savory but still sweet. I got some chicken added and it was juicy and delicious! I’m not one for salad to be honest but I would recommend this dish to anyone.Inside the restaurant it feels open and inviting. I sat in the booth in the back. It was quiet even with a full house. The staff was amazing too! Unfortunately I forgot the name of our waitress but she, the host, and bus girl were all friendly and knew what they were doing!Overall food and drinks were reasonably priced and very worth it.Can’t wait to go back soon!!!
Came here for Sunday brunch on the recommendation of a friend. On a beautiful, sunny day there was no wait for indoor seating (patio was full). Thats usually either cuz the place isnt great or its a hidden gem in a neighborhood where 30-60 min waits can be found at popular places. Im thrilled it was the latter. Food, service, drinks, and ambiance were all great. I had the Chicken Biscuit which can definitely hold its own against the many Ive had before. My very pregnant wife thoroughly enjoyed her Crab Cake Benedict. The bartender (Christine) brought my second drink over and introduced herself to us which was pleasantly unexpected. The server was very warm and quickly handled a small issue of my wifes eggs coming out poached well instead fried well. Due to our busy schedule, this meal was the only way we could celebrate our 7 year anniversary and it was top notch. Thanks, Highwater. Kudos.
Came here for my friends birthday, and Im a fan. The whole experience was top notch. The bartenders are very nice (and cute), love the interior design, the simplistic menu, the music, and the cocktails! The bar stools are actually comfy! The taro fries are out of this world, and I really liked the burger. Ill definitely be back :)
This place is cool. Intriguing concept. Its like a Hawaiian speakeasy if that makes any sense. They make really colorful drinks that are phenomenal. You have to get the brass pineapple drink; its a hell of an experience. The spot is really bright and open. The bartenders and servers are absolutely amazing. A little mad i never saw this place sooner. Go check this place out asap!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE.Came in because we saw it was new. Sat down for a drink to celebrate the end of the week, ended up staying for the pork belly tacos to share. They have a mezcal drink that is mind-blowingly delicious.Really cute tropical theme without overdoing it. I really hope this place sticks. It was only open a few days, and although service was a little slow (we expected and was totally within reason considering the place was almost full), everything was accurate with our orders and the staff was wonderful - friendly, gracious and helpful.Tacos were amazing. Cocktails were amazing. Happy hour is reasonable. Cant wait to come back!
Came here based on the deceiving good reviews.Came here on a Sunday night with my boyfriend around 8PM. The waiter seemed very pre occupied talking to his friend that stopped by the bar because my drink was sitting at the bar a good 10 minutes before being given to me. The food was glorified bar food. “Fancy” sauces on the side don’t fool me. The food was extremely over priced as were the drinks. The drink was good but not worth $13 aka city prices. Sorry won’t ever be returning. The owner should take this review into consideration considering his staff is highly unqualified aside from the bartender. One star is for the good drinks the second is for the friendly atmosphere.
Wow! The owner is incredibly friendly and passionate about his business, and the entire staff made us feel welcome. We’re vegetarian and enjoyed seeing so many options available. Every part of the beverage service is impeccable: good wines, craft beer, creative cocktails, and top shelf liquor. Amazing!
I used to kind of like the food here although it was overpriced in my opinion, but recently they stopped giving a dingdong about their food. I ordered Buddha bowl which had tofu for its protein, I received literally three tiny little broken pieces of tofu. Not to mention that their medium well done always seems to be either rare or medium rare. They literally give you whatever scraps they have laying around in the fridge. Well, time to learn my lesson. NEVER ordering again.
I just dont get all the positive reviews.... The food here is just really poor quality. The honey Sriracha wings were somehow extremely bland, and so was their sauce, and the chimichanga burrito was about 60% plain white rice. The watermellon salad was particularly awful, as it was extremely acidic(made my face pucker, and my lips burn), and way too minty. I also found a quarter sized piece of hard plastic debre at the bottom of my bowl. Very disappointing... You can just tell that they dont care at all about what they push out.
Went to the Highwater with my husband and we both fell in love with the place. The decor, the vibe, the staff, the drinks were all stellar. The food was beyond delicious. And so different from all the other local offerings! Being there, tasting the food, you feel like youve been transported to a beach town with the ocean waves are right outside the door. The drinks are so innovative. The prices are more than fair for the quality of the food. The tuna poke and the fish tacos were FANTASTIC. The sorbet dessert was so satisfying. I would highly recommend checking this place out as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed.
Went for brunch and was very impressed. Great drinks and friendly staff, menu was rather limited, not a lot of options. Definitely will be going back to try again.UPDATE - 4 starts to 5! Went back this past week and they’ve improved all around. Super friendly bartender, incredible drink selection (my mai chai was on fire), they expanded the menu and everything we order was great. Definitely will be frequenting this place more often now!!
Love Highwater! Their cocktail list never disappoints and the food is spot on. Whether you are looking for a pre dinner drink, dinner, or a nightcap the Highwater is your spot. The outdoor dining feel natural and perfectly compliments the pre-COVID vibe. Staff is amazing!
I had the $28 flaming cocktail where the bar makes something off the menu for you (sans allergens). It was a good drink, but volume wise shouldve been around $20. There was way too much ice in there. Service was fine, not special. The bathroom was very poorly lit, almost like a black light, which is not very hygenic. Poor lighting can only hide filth.
Whyle walking around an old neighborhood I was surprised to see all the new changes and lucky enough to stumble into the High Water. I was first drawn to all the beautiful little old windows and personality of this place with the art on the side and plants I could tell some love was going on with this place. The food is a must and the beer next door was just lets say refreshing and a very nice selection!
A real neighborhood gathering place with style and taste. Tropical, fusion menu, excellent chef and bartender, great ambience and reasonably priced. I am related to one of the owners and the host, but I myself care about good food and community. By the way, Astoria is happening.
This has to be the best new restaurant to hit Astoria. Food is amazing. The chef even comes out to talk to you. The cocktails are to die for. Dudes if you want good food with hot waiters, yea this is the place to go.Hopefully Bianca is single. Lol. But try it out Astoria.
Less than one star. Ok, maybe one just because the decor is cute hahahhaWas there for one drink because it was recommended and it didn’t go well. The drink that I had was just a bad drink. Took so long and he was just “not there”. All good; I wasn’t in a hurry. I’m an alcoholic and for me to leave a drink after one sip means a lot. Still I heard that the food is good and other people that work there are efficient. So, you guys can give it a chance and decide. And I took the time to write this because it was just an overall bad experience
I went here for brunch. The place was relatively empty. There was an open booth and open tables for two people to sit at. As a group of three we could not fit. When we requested the booth we were told only people four or more can sit there. We were asked to wait for 10 minutes. After waiting for 15, there were no open tables.Upon looking at the taken tables, we noticed that there were several tables of four only sitting two people. We again requested the booth. We were told that they get busy (in the almost 20 minutes of sitting there, it was relatively empty) and they could not accommodate us. So we left. All I know is NEVER AGAIN!Instead, we went to Moms Kitchen.

2022-05-25Super cute place to come for some drinks. They close super late so it is definitely a good option to come late night to seat down and enjoy some drinks and good food. (I got the tacos when I visited). It takes a little while to get your order ready, but maybe bc when it was too crowded. The staffs are super nice though.

2022-01-07Low key and cute for brunch. Menu had items where the flavors combined in a meal that were a bit bizarre and seemed a bit hell no for my tastes. I ordered breakfast tacos for brunch which was good. They have bottomless mimosas and other food items. Included are photos of what other people got at my table. The pic with dumplings are two separate dishes, dumplings are vegetarian!

2022-06-26Fun tiki bar experience for some apps and cocktails. Ordered the Korean BBQ skewers and the fried vegetable dumplings. The flavor was good and the portions were nice. Cool music as well. Staff was also super friendly. Would visit here again.

2021-07-24Your go to move is to come here before 7pm for discounted beers and small apps before eating a main and drinking one of their fabulous tropical inspired cocktails. The food was well executed and the staff was incredibly friendly. I thought the Kalua pork tacos were fab. In terms of apps, pick 4 and create your own adventure! Ill definitely be back! A mini oasis in Astoria.

2022-06-29This place is fantastic. We lucked out and found this place on Taco Tuesday. The margaritas were delicious. Two in the party for three tacos each and I got the taco bowl. The crispy bowl was delicious. The guac was yummy! The others with me loved their tacos so much they ordered more. The wait staff was fabulous. It was so cool to see employees who were happy and clearly enjoying their work. I highly recommend this place for delicious food and fabulous service.

2021-10-17Great brunch spot in Astoria. We ordered the Squid Karaage Skewers to start. I ordered the Cinnamon Toast Brunch and my friend ordered the Crab Cake Benedict. We both enjoyed our meals. They also offer a great deal on a bottle of Prosecco for brunch. I would go here again and try the dinner options.

2022-03-05The menu continues to surface highlights of island cuisine even in the dead of winter. This hearty chickpea stew with avocado and grilled cheese is a perfect cold weather comfort.

2021-11-16I went with my friends during the Happy Hour on Tuesday and it was very good until they gave us the check. The service was great. We were greeted by Maria who checked on us during our evening there to make sure we were having a nice time. We were served by—- who was very friendly too.The food was fine. The fish and shrimp tacos were really great and tasty. It was a great deal to go there. The drinks were fine too. I loved the margaritas. When we received the check, we noticed that they overcharged us for EACH drink and for one of the plates we ordered. They did correct the “mistake” but I’m not sure if they do that to everyone or to tables who have ordered more than 12 drinks.Overall I’m not sure if I will be back here since everything was great until it was time to pay.
