The Immigrant in other cities:
Cool vibe, but Im not sure Id call it a wine bar. Very limited wine menu. Good service and cocktails/beer for your weird non-wine drinking friends (you should probably stop hanging out with those people. Theyre a bad influence...) but not the kind of wine selection I was expecting when I pulled up a wine bar on Google.
My husband and I had wonderful time here last night while grabbing a drink. The bar tender was fantastic (had the greatest mustache too!) And was incredible about making sure everyone in his very busy bar was well-taken care of. The drink selection was great - a lot of solid classics, and good small bite options. We will definitely be back, and recommend to friends!
Had drinks at The Immigrant last night. The outside area was super clean and welcoming. We even had our own blowup zebra to keep us company. The Sauvignon Blanc by the glass was delicious and they make a mean dirty martini. My boyfriend is a bartender and it actually might be better than his. Don’t tell him. Can’t wait to go back. ❤️🍸🍾
Went to the wine bar side. It was a nice enough experience. My group wanted to love it, but felt like the man running the bar just wanted to go home. Dropped a charcuterie plate and a glass of wine he felt paired well with the platter without telling us what wine it was or what cheeses were on the plate. To his credit, he chose a great wine! I finished my glass well before the rest of my party and he never came back to ask if I wanted another glass. So I drank one glass when I would have more than happily have had two.I wouldn’t go out of your way if you’re craving good cheese. The cheeses were pretty ordinary and forgettable. The warm pita was the star of the plate. Feels like a great neighbourhood bar, just not sure it’s worth seeking out.
Nice chill vibes for a Friday after work! We were even able to snag two seats at the bar with no wait 👌🏽👌🏽.Drinks are reasonably / normally priced for the area — about $7/$8 for a beer and $12 or $13 for a cocktail. However, the appetizers seemed quite expensive, for example $10 for a fairly small portion of pita and hummus.
Very simple, friendly staff and good service. Very good prices during the happy hour. The place is pretty small so the number of seat is very limited, you better get in early. They have a good wine selection while not particularly impressive. Definitely recommend the place.
We went here because we were a big group of 12-15 people and other bars were too busy, the place is boring, no music no ambiance, all it can offer is a quiet bar with average drinks. When we were leaving the bartender started an argument with one of my friends because he tipped 18% instead of 20%, first of all everybody knows you don’t tip that much for drinks, and second my friend was singled out because he was a guy and talking in a foreign language. My friend tipped as he was told and then we left because the atmosphere became so tense, also we were the entire bar by then. Nice job guys, calling your bar an immigrant. You lost all of us as customers.
The Immigrant has such a good concept, and lucky for them, it works. There is a beer bar on the left with an ever-changing, interesting selection of draughts and a very personable bartender (I like the guy with the awesome handlebar mustache). Right next door they have a wine bar with an equally interesting rotating selection (for example, hard to find a place with a good Greek wine and this place definitely has that). The music is always on point, often Oldies. All of the bartenders are very friendly and even the small snacks (almonds, olives, etc.) are tasty. Great place for a date because of the laid back, but intimate ambiance. There are small tables towards the back of each narrow space, but I prefer to sit at either bar. Jason, the owner, is a stand up guy as well. Many of the patrons are friends of his or have become such because hes extremely accommodating and easy to talk to. Long live The Immigrant!
My first visit was met by two employees and two regulars all turning and greeting me as I entered and offering me fresh cookies before I even sat down. This is a little-know hole in the wall serving a great collection of wine and beer in the East Village. By far one of the best places Ive found so far. The people are absolutely delightful and they even have good food- mostly snacks to go with the wine. Every server is thoroughly knowledgeable on every bottle they serve. Please go- just for me.
Cool ambiance, dim lighting, and laid back atmosphere. Played Stones, Dylan, Police and the like. Nothing like a good glass of wine with Every Breath You Take playing in the background. Good wines, priced around $12. Bartenders very attentive, friendly, even saved two stools for a couple that had been waiting. You dont see that at many places.
I never usually write reviews but felt that this time I needed to share this. I used to come and really like this bar until I had a very bad and strange experience earlier this month. I ordered a regular cocktail on the menu while my friend asked if he could have something that was not on the menu like a cognac or a whiskey. The waitress said that it was possible without giving us any further information on the type of bottle nor on the price of a drin. When I asked for the check, I had the good surprise to see that the 4 ounces drink of my friend costed $56!!! We would have never assumed that it was such a high price since all drinks on the menu are much cheaper (my cocktail was $14) and I never paid that much for such a drink anywhere else, even in fancier places. At least, we could have been informed of such a price at the moment we ordered the drinks. When my friend questioned the price, the bartender was very rude to him, almost yelling on him and made us feel like we should have never come in that bar anyway. What made me feel really uncomfortable is that this bitter experience actually looks like there might be some discrimination practices in that bar, since it was the first time I was bringing my African-American friend there and never experienced such a bad service before with my “white friends” . For sure, I will never come again.
My friends and I are often in East Village late at night on a weekend perusing the many speakeasies with spectacular cocktails. However, they come with long wait times or no open tables at all. Each and every time, we end up coming over to The Immigrant for a drink. Sometimes its just to kill some time waiting for a table elsewhere, and sometime its to close out the evening; either way, were always happy with the experience. The staff is friendly and accommodating and the wine has always been good. Only one time did we have trouble getting some table space, and they have since opened up another wing of the establishment: now they appear to have two adjacent establishments set up in a very similar configuration. One of my friends once got the champagne, and it was a bit flat, but I think thats to be expected getting champagne by the glass after midnight. The wines, especially the port, has not disappointed, and its a nice safe bet as a go-to spot in an area full of great late-night spots.
We had wine and snacks here around 5 PM on a Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed both the ambiance and the provisions. There was music in the background but we could easily hear each other talk. The lighting is cozily dim but not dark; theres a bar counter and a handful of small tables in the back.
Ive been to The Immigrant a couple of times, and every time I go I become more enamored by it.There are two narrow rooms: one primary beer and the other wines. Thats not to say you can have both in either. Its a lowkey unassuming environment (some might say dive). Dim mood lighting, great music, usually jazzy, blues-y. Great place for small gatherings, some cheese and meat platters, and good conversation.
Went to the pub side (beer) to catch a Monday Night Football game while vacationing in NYC.Great pub, everyone was super friendly -- great set of bar flys there! Jason the owner & his girlfriend were incredibly welcoming. If Im ever in the East Village again, Ill be sure to return
I really wanted to give this spot 5 stars because its right down the street from me and I would have enjoyed being a regular. Unfortunately it was the tale of two servers. The server that greeted us walking in was very friendly and made me a delicious old fashion. I must have caught her at shift change because she left shorty after. The next server I had was the complete opposite. I felt like she made an effort to avoid us. When we were trying to get the check she made eye contact with us and then immediately turned around and started texting. After this went on for about 5 minutes we decided to put cash down and walk out.
Came to The Immigrant last Friday after work to meet up for dinner plans. This is an interesting little bar that Ive walked by plenty of times on my way to other places, it was nice to actually have a reason to go inside. We took over the little section all the way to the right-hand side of the bar counter right by the entrance. I love the large windows that provide lots of natural lighting and I like the whole overall dim, rustic, exposed brick feel - its kinda NYC-fancy chic without being too bougie and romantic - but not so much so that its alienating. At the end of the day, The Immigrant is a wine bar with a nice, encompassing selection of wines to choose from that were obviously curated lovingly with eclectic tastes in mind - although I do wish they would have had more roses and sparkling - just to round the menu out as I generally go with whites and their selection here is quite nice. One of my friends ordered a Sancerre which is also one of my favorite white wines from France thats very much light-bodied, yet rich in flavor and floral textures. Having gone to Paris last fall, I learned that it is pretty highly regarded in France and goes well with several different foods and very much so simply on its own.My other friend opted for a Sorachi Ace, a Brooklyn Brewery beer that she found a little hoppy, but still good. I ordered a SingleCut Beersmiths beer which was apparently brewed in nothing other than QUEENS and was actually QUITE delicious so I was very pleased. The cheese platters and other offerings on the menu seemed a bit pricier than what I would want to necessarily order in that neighborhood or place. Prices are something Id rather pay at Winebar, Von or just a bigger more established wine bar. The Immigrant has a cozy, neighborhood charm whos appetizer prices are trying too hard to charge a lot for small portions.I like this place, but Id only come here for a glass of wine, a few glasses of good craft beer, play with their super cool American-themed rotary phone (Captain America anyone!???) and then eat elsewhere. Good for a beginning of a date or meeting up with friends to go elsewhere.
Had a wonderful glass of wine and was promptly served the deepest bummer of a cheese plate I’ve ever had. Berries and some semi-toasted, allllmost sliced “baguette” from the bodega? Three white cheeses that even a trip to Whole Foods could’ve diversified pretty quickly? So many slices of manchego. Toooooo many slices of manchego. Love y’all, but for $15 or so that was not what I had in mind.

2022-05-30This is literally the only bar I have seen my wife order a Manhattan and then be satisfied with it. I dont know why shes like this, but apparently The Immigrant makes a decent Manhattan. I usually get a gin martini, those are also good. The atmosphere is lovely, theres always some cool people hanging out at the bar and some idiot children on a first tinder date you can eavesdrop on.

2022-07-03This is the cutest little wine bar in nyc! The wine menu is absolutely amazing and I can’t recommend the 500ml orange wine for funky, natural wine lovers.

2022-08-06Drinks were just terrible, even the wine was nasty! We figured that at least the champagne rose and spicy marg would be safe but we were very wrong. The spicy marg tasted like licking someone who just got out of a chlorine pool and the champagne rose was just terribly bland. Everything here is terribly dry, Id be pretty careful taking folks hereEdit: To the reply Id say if you are a dry focused establishment Id at least put one or two things on the menu that are not dry as otherwise folks who walk in from off the street could land themselves in the same situation as us

2021-02-24Great outdoor seating with amazing lights and seating indoor. Very cool bar to hangout. Staff is very covid friendly and go above and beyond to accommodate needs wrt to covid. Drinks are all right, not the best selection in the neighborhood but definitely one of the best ambiance and style-wise. Would love to check it out post covid but definitely recommend for a lazy drink or even a date! 😉

2022-02-13Great place to bring a few friends for a quick drink. The left side is more of a casual tap room and the right side is focused on wine. Check out both and you’ll have a great time.

2019-02-24Loved the wines at this small, east village bar. The cheese plate was delicious too.
