The James New York NoMad in New York
My stay was easy breezy. The staff at The James made sure we had everything we needed and always made us feel like their priority. Our Suite was perfect for two teens and two moms! Cool and quirky, while still feeling refined and upscale. We had plenty of room to hangout and get down time. The location is close to so many wonderful restaurants and shops, as well as quick access to the crosstown bus, and subway stations.
Im writing this review after staying in another nearby hotel (the Herald Square Hyatt), and I much prefer he James. The room was not only bigger but had a much more comfortable bed. Also, pets are allowed but you would never have known it---my room was spotless unlike my Hyatt room. The James also has a very good restaurant attached to it, Scarpetta. If I stay in this area of Manhattan again (and there are very good deals here), I will look for The James.
Nice hotel. Nice area. Rooms are not huge but could be smaller. Area is nice. Prices are too high though. Particularly the so called facility fee, daily US$40 for a cup of coffee in the morning… when you’ve already paid well above $400 for the room , feels a bit insulting. Not a bad option but not awesome either.
The worst service ever not only did they try to charge me for extra items fromThe mini bar but they charged the wrong card when I specifically told them what card to charge for 800 then IGNORED my calls for days. How can you treat a customer like this and expect me to come back or tell my friends who travel to come here and spend their money.
It was a brief one night stay as part of a weekend celebration party. But it met my expectations. Some in our party were not used to smaller non chain NYC hotel rooms. But our room was just enough with a small table and chairs, as well as a large updated stall shower. It has a great location convenient to many local restaurants and attractions. The only thing that was a concern were the small elevators. I would recommend this hotel if your looking for a boutique type property versus your normal hotel chains.
Great spot. The staff was super friendly and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Our room wasn’t ready on time so the handed us a bottle of wine and suggested we hang out in the lobby. The room was ready minutes later.Every interaction with the staff was genuine and kind. Everyone on the team seemed to want to help, flash a smile, and make our stay nice.We will be back for sure.
We had a great stay here. The staff was helpful and professional. The room was clean and actually fairly spacious for a NYC hotel. Parking was kind of expensive ($60/night) but to be expected with location. They had coffee and individually wrapped pastries out in the morning. Would stay here again.
It felt very dingy. Ive heard good things about the bar at this hotel but as a guest I was underwhelmed. The room had ZERO overhead lights and was very dim, all the fabrics and furniture had this dull 1970s feel that reminded me of uh, an adult film. When I arrived my room was a mess and not cleaned and I arrived late after check in. They upgraded my room and the bed was comfy but honestly the vibe was just off for me. I prefer to stay at Moxy or Made in the area.
Originally, I was ready to give this hotel 4/5 because the hotel is quite nice, with an amazingly comfortable bed, and is somewhat central. However, the room’s furnishings were a little worn and there’s a building reno next door - which means loud banging garbage trucks are on 29th every weekday morning, between 6 to 8am.Nevertheless, the chic lounge, friendly staff (both front desk and cleaners), complimentary wine hour, and the fantastic singer, Naja Lewis, they had on Thursday, elevated the experience to 4.5.I’d stay again, but would first double check re any ongoing nearby construction.
Check in late night after Halloween party like 3 am and checkout at 11 am. Room was so small, the view was to the garbage outside, no glasses for drinks and no fee water for drinking. Next day they charge me extra 49,50$ “service fee”, so I pay 300(taxes and fees included) for a small room with garbage view, 49,50$ “service fee” which nobody tell me when we checked in and 24.97$ for 1 soda and 1 small bottle of water. Total 375$. For this price you can get better room with the great view, couple bottles with the free water and glasses for drinks. They don’t even show that 49,50$ “service fee” in receipt. It’s not about 50$, it’s about trust. Will never stay here again!
Outstanding, attentive staff. From Roman the valet to Jayda at the front desk, Brendan front desk mgr and the patient bellman (sorry didn’t get his name but had a great accent) and Martin who served the private dinner, all could not have been kinder or more attentive. Thank you for adding to our family’s special day.
Update: The James called me back and offered apologies and assured me they would refund my card. Although it took a while, I appreciate that they owned it and apologized for the service.I booked a trip to visit NYC from august 19 through the 22nd for the auto show. Unfortunately because it was cancelled, I had to cancel my trip. After cancelling my reservation, I still received a charge on my card for the first night. I called the front desk and they advised me it showed up as a no show, and they gave me the phone number to accounting. I’ve called several times over the past week but no one answers. The voicemail box is full so I was unable to leave a message. The front desk finally gave me a direct number to someone in accounting but she did not answer. I left a message several days ago but no one has called me back. Ive also emailed the customer service box at the hotel. I understand that things are busy, but it’s been more than a week and I haven’t gotten anywhere. This level of service deserves 1 star. I frequent NYC and I can definitely say I won’t be staying here in the future.
This was the most disgusting hotel room I have ever stayed in. We booked a last minute stay and found this place looked great in pictures and had a decent rating. We arrived and there were dozens of large gnats dead on the heater, and found a couple on the bed. Reluctantly, we stayed as it was 1 am at this point. Only to wake up and to take a shower and there was hair in the shower which is already disgusting and evidence of a lack of cleaning — but there was a giant ROACH in the shower. Never never again. $300 gone.
The James Suite at $270 per night was so well worth the money. Both the living room and bedroom were spacious and nicely furnished. In other areas like Chelsea or downtown, this price can only get you a room half the size of this one. The staff members were good too. We ordered a lot of food deliveries and they would either allow the driver to drop the package at our door or they sent the food themselves. The front desk always answered our calls immediately. If youd like your room cleaned just let them know the night before. Its worth noted that housekeeping has been suspended in many hotels in NYC since the start of covid pandemic. Really appreciate their hard work which kept us safe during this time
I will share the following... Room for 4 was very specious, always clean and comfortable. Bathroom could be bigger but not really a problem. Location - fantastic. Price was correct - we booked it 4 months in advance, though. But honestly, the customer service not very high. I am just wondering why it has decreased so much in the U.S. There was a lady in the reception which completely changed our perception of the kindness in this hotel. Just before our departure! Not a pleasant experience!
Recently returned from a week long biz trip and stay at The James New York -NoMad. All and all had a great experience. And as someone who used to live in NYC, it felt like being back home. For the most part friendly staff and courteous friendly doormen and good value for your $. Stayed in a corner room, minimalistic, well appointed, super comfortable bed and definitely large by hotel standards with plenty of room to stretch out and work. There were a few minor issues with housekeeping/room upkeep but they were quickly rectified as well as an adjustment to my final bill upon check-out which was a nice surprise. Located in a great location with nearby Madison Square Park along with bars, coffee shops and restaurants aplenty as well as subways, PENN and GC within walking distance. And scarpetta, the well known Italian restaurant sits adjacent to the hotel, with both inside and outside dinning. Food is very good though also a tad expensive. There is also a bar downstairs with either live music or a dj depending the night. A great part of town to stay and and the James made it all the more nicer. Will definitely be on the top of my list of hotels to stay when I return as well as to recommend.
Great staff, clean and upscale hotel. Rooms are a bit small but it’s NYC so to be expected. Bathroom was tiny, shower door almost touching the sink when opening. Light switches were a bit confusing to figure out as you had to press and hold and wait a little bit for the lights to turn off. Room was clean and was cleaned every day while I was out. Only downside of room was noise from the hallway as the walls are thin but it wasn’t too bad. Lobby area is really nice with lots of seating so you can relax. Coffee and tea as well as some fruits were put out in the lobby area each morning. They also have a happy hour 5-6pm with free red and white wine as well as cheese and crackers. There’s a fitness room that’s pretty nice, has several treadmills and bikes as well as other equipment. Good location. Would stay again.
This is a great hotel! There were five of us sharing a suite and the staff was very accommodating! They are very helpful in giving suggestions and helping with whatever is needed- gave us umbrellas to use on a rainy evening, extra towels on request. They are friendly and happy hour of wine and cheese is included. The gym is small but comprehensive. Coffee, water and fruit is provided in the hotel lobby every morning.
We had a great experience! Our rooms were ready early (almost unheard of), and they were clean and tidy. There was a robe available and an abundance of nice fresh towels. Im giving it a 4 because our toilet had an issue, which was handled immediately, and when we woke up one of our rooms smelled a bit like cigarette smoke....even though we are not smokers and this is a no smoking hotel. The service was great and the little bar in each room was awesome!! Amazing showers as well....nice pressure and hot hot hot water! We will definitely stay there again!!!
Extremely small rooms, poorly decorated; my room looked shabby and bare. No full length mirror so getting ready was challenging. Bathroom was so small!! I mean, sooooo small! The smallest bathroom I have seen in a hotel. Elevators were tiny as well. We had to let 3 elevators go before we could finally squeeze into one.$40 resort fee? For what? It’s still a mystery to me.Lobby was decent and the valet parking was very convenient. Location is good too. However, I will be staying somewhere else next time
We stayed here two weeks ago and couldnt have chosen a nicer place to stay. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The room was lovely and stylish with such a comfortable bed and large bathroom. It was also so quiet at night which meant we were able to get a good nights sleep too!
My gf booked a two night stay here for us on valentines day weekend through hoteltonight - we didnt stay the first night we had prepaid for (something came up) and we were really disappointed in the room we were placed in for the one night we were there. We had high hopes for this stay because hoteltonight labeled it as a luxe hotel. I would expect not one detail to be overlooked in a luxe hotel. It was a small corner room, had a musty feel, extremely small window with broken curtains and no view, and there was a hole in our bathroom door where a hook was missing and a scratch on it from it hitting the shower door. The decor was okay - it was sort of retro but at the same time boring, outdated and just didnt scream luxurious to me. My uncle has managed over ten hotels in the city so I guess you can say Ive been spoiled with hotel stays in NYC. Some of which arent considered luxe but ones I wouldve definitely preferred to stay at over the James. It definitely needs updates. I know its hard times but fix the hole in the door from the broken hook - quick job. Was hoping for a better experience on our holiday staycation.
I tried to book a room, never completed the transaction, never received a confirmation notice, but no matter what I did to dispute the charges, I was charged as a No show. Horrible accounting department. The consumer does not come first at this hotel. Be careful booking online. You too might get a charge as a No show. I will never try to book this hotel again.
Rooms were really clean and the staff getting our bags were really nice. (Roman?) The bathroom shower was almost unusable due to size. They had two showers in the bathroom and I’m not sure why they just didn’t combine them into one. I paid for a higher level floor and got something in the middle. But the location of the hotel and the downstairs jazz bar were fantastic. We didn’t eat in the restaurant but got room service. It was pretty good breakfast.
The rooms here are very well made, well fitted and everything is brand new. I cannot fault the staff as they have been excellent. However, the rooms are very very small and the views are even worse. For the price I was expecting better. Also the bit I found odd was charging for use of a USB cable within the room, all hotels Ive stayed in offer this for free. But, clean sheets changed on bed and very generous with the late checkout.
The customer service at this hotel is abysmal. I’ve stayed here several times (without a choice) for an annual work event, and every single time our room isn’t ready, despite checking in after 3pm. Further, no one seems to ever have any answers as to when our room will be ready. They’re incredibly disorganized, and their only saving grace is the beautiful furniture inside the lobby and rooms. Really not sure how it takes them 45 minutes just to find out whether housekeeping is done with the room.
Used the hotel for a day use prior to going to JFK woth my family. Room is way smaller than photos suggest and doormen service was unacceptable - waited for 20 min for someone to help with our bags and we dealt with them without any help to carry nor with the elevators (two of them, since there are stairs which make accessability to the hotel very poor).
It has an amazing lobby.I give it 5 stars solely for its awesome lobby. This hotel has a great interior decorator.I booked a 2 bedroom with my sister but we ended up with 2 separate rooms that were extremely small and cramped. I was also locked inside my room because of a problem with the lock. Those 2 issues hindered the amazing experience I could have had. But even so, I somehow fell in love with the lobby so much that I might come again. Also they have A1 customer service in the lobby. 👏
We got there after a 7 hour trip. They didnt have our booking on file. They blamed it on the agency and wanted us to deal with it ourselves. They told us theyd have to treat us as a walk in, which doesnt guarantee a good room or price. We waited 2 more hours for the manager to resolve the issue, but we had to constantly ask for updates because they literally forgot about us, especially the first man at the counter. We were finally given a better price (a little under), but had to fight for it, even when the mistake was their own. We were told we got a bigger room. We walk in this room, only to find a ladder, construction tools and dust in the bathroom. The manager was sweating from fear. Nice manager but confused and disorganised. We were always courteous with them, never rude, but explicit about our dissatisfaction. Finally were given a good room and the janitor gave us some wine (the least he can do). They well us the cleaning/amenity fees were waived, but when we get the bill (slipped under our door), the fees are there. I talk to the front desk, they have no clue. I have to explain again. Were given free continental breakfast (which turned out to be a few cheap dry croissants and coffee you get from the dollar store) and were charged for the coffee brought to our room, even after confirming to us its free for the room service as compensation. Very clumsy and uncoordinated staff and terrible service. You can see why they have 2.7 or something stars for that. Things happen, its ok, but good service is in how you fix mistakes as well, effectively and fairly, which they dont get here. The rooms were basic, but clean and comfortable. You can kind of hear people outside, not the most private experience. The sink in the bathroom is poorly designed; it takes a long time for the stuff to disappear, and you slowly watch your toothpaste spit make its way out. Point above all, service is everything, and considering the little compensation we received for these major mistakes, its very disappointing.
Don’t ever stay at this hotel. The most incompetent leadership team I have ever encountered. Paid $1900 to stay in a room with no a/c. The hotel’s solution was to bring a fan at midnight to my room. I am a long stay, repeat guest of The James and the hotel has deteriorated significantly since it became a highgate property.
We are a family of 4 - two adults and two older teenagers, visiting NYC for the holiday break. We usually stay at a Ritz-Carlton property on the Club Lounge floor when we travel, but that was not available for our dates and we chose The James Nomad. This is possibly the most hospitable hotel we have stayed in to date. The staff is friendly and accommodating. We were upgraded when we checked in and given a F&B credit because our rollaway bed was late. While it does not compare in amenities to the Ritz Carlton Club Lounge, our room is gorgeous, clean, and very spacious. The gym is nice and the location is perfect for our needs. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, for business or vacation travel. From the time we arrived, the staff has been incredibly friendly and helpful.
Our room itself (The James Suite) was as pictured, no complaint there. The front desk service was horrible, probably the worst I have ever experienced, especially for the price I was paying to stay there. We had to wait an extra hour from the time we were told we could check in. After the long wait our room was still not ready. The girl behind the counter was noticeably irritated and looked to her coworker and said “when I’m done with this can I take a break, I can’t handle this!” I was taken aback by her lack of professionalism and the fact that there was zero applogy for how long we had waited. The rest of the stay was fine, however I will note that if your hands are full don’t expect the gentlemen by the door to offer to hold the door for you or help you with your bags, because they won’t. Mostly they were too busy talking to one another. On top of all that the $40 hotel charge for their coffee in the morning (there is no coffee in the rooms) and the wine hour seems a bit excessive. Overall if you can look passed the lock luster service the rooms are nice and the location is great. We won’t be returning though, I should have listened to the other reviews that I read.
Nice hotel. Staff are friendly. Rooms are small but just right for NYC standards. When I first arrived, there was wine in the lobby. Later I had an issue with my remote and they sent someone up to replace it right away. The location is good as well, only a couple blocks from the 28th street 6 train station.
Stayed here with my husband for our week-long honeymoon trip to NYC!! The location was PERFECT for walking anywhere in the city (we walked literally everywhere) and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Guadalupe at the front desk helped us when our flight home was cancelled and we had to add an extra night in the hotel last minute! The rooms were fabulous too, and beds were AMAZING! Highly recommended!
Where do I start - I was booked to stay here with a large group of girls and when we arrived early in the morning after our flight was delayed for a couple of hours, the hotel had given away our rooms despite the fact we attempted to call them multiple times. They didn’t attempt to fix this mistake at all and the next day, some of the girls had things stolen from their rooms! I had the cleaners go through my bag as well and I even found the cleaners in my room after I put the do not disturb sign on my door. For the amount of money paid, it’s not a very good hotel. Some of the staff members were rude and no one offered to fix any of the problems encountered. I didn’t book the hotel myself as it was for a trip for my college, I will definitely not be coming back and wanted to write this review as a warning to anyone else looking to stay here. It’s not worth the money.
The staff at this hotel is absolutely fantastic. Theyre extremely polite and a sincere pleasure at check in, with handling luggage and with any general help with information you might need in the neighborhood. The rooms are super cute and well maintained and a decent size for New York. The gym is a wonderful little addition, which I utilized every day of my stay. Id like to give an extra loud and emphatic shout out to Erica and her housekeeping staff who found my Garmin watch that was a gift from my brother. I placed it on the bedside table after a run and left the next morning without it. They found it and held it for me until I was able to return to claim it. Just an all around wonderful experience.
Great location. Rooms are tiny. Comfortable beds. But horrible customer service. Housekeeping is literally non existent. They didn’t throw out empty bottles, replace vanity kits and towels. My bag and clothes were on the floor when I returned instead of on the rack where I left it this morning. Bed was only half made up. It’s as if they gave up mid way through cleaning. Called front desk a few times and they don’t respond. Won’t be staying here again.
We stayed here for one night at the end of August and it was great. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. We were able to check into our room several hours before normal check in time and it was nice that check out wasnt until 2pm the next day instead of the standard 11am. The hotel recently underwent renovations so everything is clean and new. Great location with good restaurants nearby. Highly recommend!
Clean, attractive, small but well-appointed rooms. Fun and beautiful common spaces (lobby, restaurant) with lots of seating. Good location, just a few blocks from lovely Madison Square Park (and the math museum :)). There was a happy hour on the evening I arrived with complimentary wine. I had other plans but appreciated that this opportunity was available for guests. Staff was very helpful and polite. Great experience! Would definitely stay here again!
My husband and I stayed just one night to visit our daughter rather than going home late. The location is ideal, near her as well as other tourist spots ie. Empire State and Madison Square park etc. The room (8th floor), was perfect for us, clean and comfortable. A small table and chair was nice too. Yes bathroom wasn’t tremendous but more than efficient. (Not thrilled with soap selection, but it was fine for the night). The staff we did encounter were always nice and helpful. We would stay there again, however, my 4 star rating is due to the charge ($40), for the “complimentary “ coffee, fruit, wine/cheese they offered when booking on the phone. We did not partake in the wine and cheese and the coffee in the morning was not worth it. There was a couple of teas, oranges and apples. Get coffee fix somewhere else. They do offer ice water in hallway too. My suggestion is to be upfront about the charge, possibly allow guests to opt out and those interested, give a coupon or something.Other than that, we would consider another stay.
Nice hotel in downtown Manhattan. Really enjoyed the modern space and the location. There’s a mini bar in the room and a large bed if you book the king room. There’s no in room coffee but they offer it daily in the lobby. I had a pleasant experience and I’d stay here again.
Regardless of the renovations I HIGHLY recommend this hotel. The staff is very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Its pricier than other hotels near by but its worth the extra money ( I learned the hard way and ended up with bug bites from the first hotel I booked). Its kid friendly,on the quiet side of town and spacious along with comfy and good sized beds. I had no issues what so ever. This will be my go to hotel when in N.Y.
Great hotel. Large rooms by NYC standards. Well appointed rooms and clean bathrooms. We might have gotten the renovated rooms judging by the rest of the reviews but our stay was really comfortable. Noise is a bit of an issue but didnt bother us too much. The location is great. Spent 3 nights here with 2 rooms.
We had a very positive experience at the Carlton. The people were lovely. The size of the room is ok for us without any big luggage. The front desk staff was extremely attentive to our needs. Gym was clean. Great location in New York City. The staff was very accommodating.
This SHOULD be a great hotel. It is well located, very quiet, comfortable beds, and beautiful interior. However, I just spent over 1,100 to stay here three nights, and here are things I consider essentials in a hotel room that were NOT included in my room.....air conditioning, hair dryer, iron, ironing board, SHOWER CURTAIN, soap, shampoo, conditioner, and a rod in the closet to hang clothes from. Those are all things you would find at the motel 6, but not at this hotel! Numerous calls to the front desk did no good. In addition, (and I would never have complained about any of this) there was no minibar, a few snacks scattered around on top of fridge, no robe or slippers, no restaurant, not even a bathroom to use in the lobby while checking in! I understand they are renovating, so the extras I could have overlooked. But not the essentials. Definitely would never stay here again.
There were definitely aspects of this hotel I appreciated - a 24 hour lobby, a beautiful room, a wine and cheese hour. But I am not likely to stay here again because of the guest service. I was double billed for my room (I prepaid and the hotel billed me again for the room when I checked out), and when I got home I found another erroneous charge on my card. (And its very difficult to reach their front desk via phone to sort out these problems.) Also a little frustrating - most of the features supposedly covered under the $25 guest fee are nonexistent: the gym that was supposed to open in fall 2017 is still not open, and they send you to Crunch fitness instead; the coffee and muffins that they supposedly offer in the morning is nowhere to be found. Overall, would not particularly recommend.
Hotel is in a great location. It also has an awesome bar called the Seville underneath. This is where the good news ends. The rooms are in poor condition and we could here the snoring and toilet noises from the room next door. There are much better value hotels in New York.
The front desk staff & doormen were not that welcoming. Everyone seemed busy and only just have enough time to check us in.The hotel itself was sleek, modern, warm & cosy which helped in -13 degree temperatures. Our room was small, and we had no tea/coffee making facilities. The hotel offer free coffee for around 2 hours in the morning but we were on the later side of this offering so got cold coffee.Suggestions would be to work on customer service & provide tea/coffee making facilities.
We stayed here for 5 nights and have just returned home. We swapped hotels before hand to The James Nomad and really did enjoy our time here. Good Location to take in NYC, all the staff here were friendly. There was always a good morning, good evening from them!! Room was great, clean and of a great size for New York (from what Ive read about other hotels). The luggage guys were fantastic. On our last day I needed to put some extra shopping in to our cases and without hesitation they brought our bags up twice so I can put the final bits in with the comment youre in charge, you need you re cases no problem!! Our next trip (hopefully in 2019) I will definately be looking at staying here again!
Great hotel. Good service, with an excellent location. Totally walkable to countless restaurants, bars, show venues, etc. Youre less than a 20min walk to harbor yard, downtown, Chelsea, Grand Central, etc. Nice amenities like comp wine & cheese in the lobby/lounge while you check in. Rooms are nice. While theyre small, theyre typical of NYC hotel rooms.
We got there after a red eye flight from the West Coast at 8:30AM and they had rooms available for us to check in - perfect to allow us to recover from that flight. Rooms are on the small side, but that’s to be expected for New York City. The bathrooms are great (a little cramped, but fine) and the shower had good water pressure. Location is great - walking distance to the 4,5,6 and to Flatiron. Would stay here again.
I have had a very unfortunate experience with this hotel. I had reserved two rooms for a one night stay. When we arrived, we were slightly early for check in. Because we wanted two rooms as close together as possible, the front desk stated that they were still in process of cleaning those rooms. They graciously stored our luggage meanwhile and we headed off to take advantage of the little time we had to spend in the city. We returned a few hours later and they checked us into two rooms that were just a few doors down from one another. We entered the one room and to our surprise found someone elses belongings there. I went back to the front desk and they were shocked to find that someone else was staying there and said they didnt know who it was. They attributed it to the fact that their systems had been down and not all of the paperwork was organized as a result. After at least 15 minutes of waiting for a resolution, they then said that the best they could do was give us a smaller room in replacement. They stated that there were no upgrades available and not one roller bed that they could give us because they were all out (so that we couldve all just stayed in the bigger room). In addition, because I had booked the room through a third party website, they stated that could not refund the difference. The front desk receptionist stated that they would waive the facility fees (about $80 total) and give us a certain amount of room service for free. Since we were exhausted at that point, I accepted. Unfortunately, now I am checking my account a week later and they still charged us for all of the room service that we used even though they said they wouldnt. I just left a message with the accounts office since they didnt pick up and well see what the outcome is.Apart from all of this, there were no wash clothes in either of the two rooms that I had reserved, the hair dryer in the one room was busted (the hot button didnt work at all), and overall the rooms were not super clean. Its a beautiful hotel aesthetically speaking and nearly all of the workers that we came into contact with were friendly overall, but it appears they couldnt handle the rush of the holiday crowd and did not fulfill their word to not charge us room service. It is highly unlikely that well be back to stay.
Booked The James over a month ago after deciding against booking our regular Westhouse hotel when in NYC for the Christmas holidays.Valet check in was good, attendants were helpful. 20 minutes prior to arriving, my wife called to see if our room could be ready for early check in. Our room was ready but another family travelling with us would have to wait for their room. Rooms were on different floors so we requested, if possible, to have us on the same floors. Were told by the hotel that this would be possible, but would have to wait till the room was ready at 3pm. We decided to stick with the room ready for early check in. Hotel was accommodating having our room ready at 12:30. Note: check in is 2, check out is 12.After check in, everything went downhill from there. We were disappointed with our room being directly in front of the elevators. Remember, we had an early check-in, so hotel guests still had to show up and check in. We requested a different room, only to be denied our request even though we were told 30 minutes earlier that they could have another room available at 3pm. Were told by front desk staff that we could change our room next day, strike one. Hotels rated at this level 4* + should put the priority of the guest first.Definitely felt it was a take it or leave it attitude.Room was rated, a “double queen deluxe. I would agree with the double queen but not The deluxe rating. Room was a good size, but The Washroom is SMALL!! No room to maneuver, claustrophobic at best. No room to put your toiletries when getting ready in the washroom. Room was NOT clean. Housekeeping does not move items for cleaning. I found used sugar packs located under the telephone for the room. Room was dusty. I guess this room is not well received and why it was available for early check in. Strike two.Hotel is loud! Hallways echo! Entry doors are paper thin, you can hear everything! Not good if you’re a light sleeper. Thankfully I am not, but my wife is!Windows to the building are not insulated from the outside noise! Outside traffic is loud and you can easily overhear conversations from the street below. Deep base from music being played in the basement lobby of the hotel could be heard on the 4th floor where we were sleeping at 1am. Strike three.Would not recommend this establishment to friends.
The rooms are a little run down staying in the hotel for two and no one ever clean that room Stephen the front desk is pretty polite and ready to answer your questions. We tried to go to the Bar Lounge downstairs two different times and the front door refused to let us in even though we were staying in the hotel very rude and disrespectful towards the guest of the hotel were letting people in from the street but they know I didnt care that we were staying in the hotel. Just kept blowing us off and letting people in from the street that they knew
Just stayed there for 7 nights (Aug 2019). At the get go there was an issue with service. When I tried to call the hotel to check on the reservations they did not pick up the phone for 24hrs. I must have called at least 10 times. When we arrived after a 10 hrs flight no one helped us in with the suitcases. The first room we got (our stay was split in 2 because we drove to up state for a couple of days) was at the 14th floor. Old but ok I guess even though there was little place to set your things in the bathroom. The second room on the 4th floor was very noisy we had a hard time sleeping with earplugs. The whole hotel rooms is facing a noisy streat with construction and tracks breaking and backing up at 3-4AM. The front desk service is poor, impatient and rude at time. One morning the was no breakfast because the credit card system was down. The server just nonchalant send us looking for food somewhere. We ate breakfast outside the hotel most mornings at the NoMad hotel which is a block away. Expensive but very nice. Please avoid this hotel if you can outdated with poor service.
I had a great experience here. The staff was very friendly, and though they were still undergoing renovations everything was clean and stylish. Not to mention the free wine/cheese hour in the evening and coffee/pastries in the morning! Great location. Will definitely stay here again.
My Husband and I just got back from the most amazing weekend in NY. At first we were really trying to stay directly IN times square, but decided on The James Nomad (just a few block away). We are SO glad we did! Not only is this hotel in the perfect location to the subway, amazing restaurants, the mall, and everything you could possibly need in walking distance, BUT what really made our vacation was the staff. Every single person there was amazing! The men at the front door was always willing to help, give directions and just all around awesome. No matter what time we strolled in at night, the front desk always greeted us with a smile. Housekeeping and the rooms were superb. I could go on and on. Plus there is a club downstairs and the restaurant is great! Sooooo, my advice to anyone looking for a hotel to look no further! Thank you The James for helping to make our vacation the best ever!! :-)
Customer service needs improvement. First and foremost, the housekeeping. As you can see from the picture, they made my bed and left the room service tray from the night before. As if I were saving the dried up lettuce for later. There was a q tip on the bathroom floor when I arrived and it stayed there the whole time. They didnt replenish the shower caps or grooming kits either. The room was lacking a luggage rack so I ended up using the small table until I got one sent up on the second night. The shower lacks basic shelf space. The shelf they have is taken by the huge bottles of shampoo so there was nowhere else to put my face wash and razor. There is a huge gap under the door to the room so you hear everything in the hallway, and I presume vice versa. The door men acted more like bouncers. And finally, as a hotel which sees its fair share of business travelers, youd think getting itemized receipts would be easier and able to be emailed.
Upscale hotel located conveniently near many subway lines. They dont provide water bottles in the room, but instead encourages you to drink from their triple filtered tap water. It was one of the brighter hotels I have been in the city. They provided muffins and coffee for breakfast in the lobby. The only thing that I didnt like was the shower. The water pressure was extremely low and it was also somewhat difficult to control the temperature.
Its covid times and we cannot hold establishments like The Jámes Nomåd to their usual high standards. That said, the room wasnt ready when we got there in the evening (no shower curtain/phone/heat) and we were (very reluctantly) moved to a different one, but there were still no water glasses or robes...the TVs also stick out of the wall at a ninety degree angle to the bed... and its super noisy... and I know this is all hair splitting, and that we are all lucky to be alive and staying in hotels at all, but comparatively speaking this isnt a particularly cheap one. My advice is to put your hard earned money to better use elsewhere.
Tiny rooms fitted with industrial chic furniture. The bed is comfortable, but none of their promotional photos show how tiny most of the rooms actually are. There are very few amenities in the hotel; in place of a workout room, they have some fitness videos on the room tv that you can supposedly do on the spot - if you’re lucky enough to be in a room with any floor space... room service has automatic 18% tip + $8 delivery charge. So if you order their bagel w cream cheese for $12 (yes that’s the menu price), you end up paying $22.16. Or you can step outside and get it for $2 at the bodega. So is it really room service or more like room scam? I can see how tourists would be dazzled by the gorgeous design/deco of the place, but this New Yorker is less than impressed. Certainly not worth $300+.
We stayed for one night and let me tell you the bed was amazing and the room was really modern.. That being said i was disappointed with the placement of the room because we asked for a view and the pictures online make the shower to seem a lot bigger then it actually is. But like i said these are very petty things that we looked passed because the hotel staff was excellent and it was one of the best hotels ive stayed at for sure would for sure stay again
Update: manager Kent solve our problems and changed our room. And last night was good before our long flight. Previous Night was awful. I can’t sleep, just only because you can hear EVERYTHING from the next room! Even somebody’s sneezing and toilet, and even how people eat and My room was with this smell of food from the next door!!! Don’t recommend this hotel if you want good sleep during a night and you don’t want to hear everything from the next room!
Let me start off by stating my best friend and I stayed here recently and he left two reviews on Facebook which got deleted one after the other. Im quite disappointed with the establishment here as everyone just seems unprofessional and it lacks the hospitality atmosphere. This hotel is nothing like what is advertised on their website, the bathroom mirror and sink is a complete joke. While the hotel is still under construction, they should really consider not selling rooms on the side where the noise can become disruptive. We woke up to loud noises outside our bedroom, it sounded like a jackhammer was drilling through the concrete wall. The staff did what they could to accommodate to us, its the management that needs to be reevaluated. The worst thing was that our room was not cleaned or serviced at all!! We called housekeeping to service the room around 5pm on a Saturday night before we left to our dinner reservation. They told us that because we left the DND sign outside our door in the early afternoon there is no one available to service our room. I am in disbelief and appalled by the management here to have limited staffing where we paid close to $1,000 for the weekend and not once was our room cleaned. Ive stayed at Best Western or Days Inn and had better service.
Update,Replied to comments real fast. Knowing what client wanted and try to accommodate suggested. Great business model. The staffs that were encountered from check-in to check-out, ground staffs, engineer and room services were Fantastic. An extra star just for that (do not normally give out 5 stars). Thank you to you all! Keep up the good work._____________________________________________Rooms were a bit small but they were relatively morden and quite clean. Safe, iron, free Wifi in room. Do be aware that the in room mini-bar is quite pricey but available in a clinch.Complementary wines at lobby during check-in. Free coffee, apple and orange at the lobby in the morning. The staffs were super friendly and helpful. Great location and easy access to public transportations.
Its mordernly beautiful. Small but very organized. Liked the ambience and tech inside the room. Reasonbily priced. Late check-out at 2pm and generous to hold the baggage. Valet service priced decent as well. Would definitely recommend the place for people want to stay in city and not break the bank.UPDATE:Got 75$ of unknown charges from the hotel. Trying to figure out.
I have never written a bad review in my life, but my experience with this hotel was not good. My wife and I stayed at The James Nomad this past weekend. The hotel room is below average and the service is awful! The front desk, concierge, and housekeeping did not answer the phone when we realized that the sheets had blood stains on them and were ripped. I will never stay here again and will urge people to steer clear.
This hotel used to be The Carlton and we stayed here before with no problems which is why we chose this again. The James said it was newly renovated making it sound like it was done - they are in the middle of renovations. The website says it has a business center - it does not. The front desk told me to go find a fedex store to take care of my needs. We chose this hotel for location, early check in and family sized suites. I called the night before to check on early check in and was told that we had it and that we could show up at 11. We showed up at 1145, waited 19 minutes to talk to a front desk person and then was told no rooms were ready. The front desk manager, Glen, was dismissive and inhospitable - he told me they would call me when the room was ready and walked away. The hotel didnt call until almost 4 pm. When we finally got in our room there were crumbs on the floor and hair in the showers. We stayed in a suite because we have 2 kids. When I booked the suite I informed them that we had 2 kids and again at check in. When we came back after our play at 1130 and pulled the pullout open there were no sheets. There was no extra bedding in the suite. We went to the front desk and asked for sheets they told us there were none because they were at capacity. It took them 45 minutes to find sheets and pillows and the sheets were filled with holes. The maid also knocked on our neighbors door past midnight because she was told the wrong room and woke our neighbors up. Compounding their errors, we had late check out and they deactivated our keys and it took 2 trips to the front desk before a maid wandered by and let us in. The customer service at this hotel is wretched. There is always a 20 minute wait to speak to anyone at the front desk. No one cared about our experience at this hotel or tried to improve it in any way. It has soured me from ever wanting to stay here again. The location is great which is the only positive I can give you. We stayed 4 buildings away at The Redbury and had an amazing experience or down the block at The Edition hotel for another incredible stay. We specifically chose The James because we brought our kids and this was a miserable experience.
Best hotel in NYC. After having a horrible experience at another hotel nearby we decided to check out of our current hotel and get a last minute reservation at The James Nomad at 3:00am. We were greeted by Daniel and Luke, both greeted us extremely well and were able to check us in. Room was great and extremely clean. We couldn’t be happier with our stay here.
This hotel was amazing. It had a great location and a great price. Under $200 on a Saturday? Close to the Empire State building so if youre interested in a hotel you can find for miles around (because youre not familiar with NYC) like me then this place is for you.I forgot to mention the ridiculously comfortable bed. I only have one regret! Finding out the brand name and type of bed we had!
The rooms are filthy. There was no shower curtains in the shower. The hand held shower head needed to be held in order to clean yourself. The shower tub had hair in it and it was supposedly just cleaned. There were no hand towels. Beautiful hotel, nice staff but very disappointing. I won’t be returning.
Not a 4 star hotel, 2-1/2 is more appropriateJames is housed in a beautiful building. The decoration of the lobby is not my cup of tea but nice. Unfortunately, our stay went downhill after the lobby. We paid extra to get a Corner King Room. The Corner King Room is not at the corner but in the corner of the building. The room is actually sandwiched between two suites so there are no windows on both sides. The closet does not have any drawers but shelves only. The room is spacious but the interiors are awkward from placement to selection. They try to take the retro theme but the furniture look cheap. There is a space underneath the TV, creating a void, where you do not know whether the table had been stolen or waiting for something. A funky two seater tug in the corner, which cant sit two persons or work space. The space between the bed and the bathroom is very tight while there is plenty space they left on the another side with nothing. The bathroom is small and badly designed. You cannot use the toilet or brushing your teeth without closing the door, see the photo. However, the light switches are located outside of the bathroom. If you forget to turn on the light before entering the bathroom, you have to open the door, squeeze yourself out of the bathroom to turn on the lights. Half of the time in our stay, the water in the shower was just barely warm even I turned it all the way, particularly in the evening. Fortunately, the weather was not that cold so I could brave enough to take a quick shower before going to bed.In addition, we did not get the wash cloth on the first two days until we requested from the housekeepers(with tips). When we ran out of Kleenex and vanity kit, we did not get the replacement until we requested. Our friends did not get their wash cloth from the housekeeper even they requested. On the good side, the bed is very comfortable. However, the worst part of the hotel is the window insulation. We stayed at Level 6, I woke up by the garbage truck at 6am every morning when they come to pick up the garbage. You cant sleep without the earplugs. The hotel charge $35 per day for the amenity fee. It provides morning coffee and muffins between 6-8am, evening wine and cheese between 5-6pm and one non-alcoholic item from the mini-bar. Starting with the breakfast, I did not return it after one trial, same as the evening wine. The muffins are greasy. The wine is not good, taste like Bev-Mo 50 cents promotion wine. Tried once and never went back. It is annoying that the hotel charge the customers for $35 per night but they cannot even provide a complimentary bottle water. I do not mind the hotel to charge the amenity fee if they really provide some goodies. For example, Hotel Edition charges $35 per day but they give the customers $25 credit at the bar and $50 at the spa. It encourage the customers to use the facilities and spend more money at the hotel. Hotel Mansfield provides free continental breakfast but no amenity fee. Dream will waive the amenity fee if you book the room directly from the hotel web site. Hotel Americano does not charge amenity fee. Dream Downtown and Americano are both 4 star hotel. James NoMad, I will put them in the level with Fairfield Inn or Holiday Inn Express level. It is definitely not a 4 star hotel. HIE provides complimentary free breakfast too.
Friendly staff, renovated rooms that are equipped with all of the details; yoga mats, quality products, snacks, connected TVs and comfortable beds. Also, first class restaurant downstairs and happening cocktail bar - the place to be for the trendy biz professional crowd. Highly recommend it.
I have already stayed at this hotel, and needless to say that I had a great experience last time about a year ago to come back again. This is only the start of my 10 day stay at the James, and I can say that I have witnessed a significant degradation of my experience. Service is not as good as last time, the room, even though nice and spacious, feels like maintenance has not been properly completed, a shame, and housekeeping clearly is not doing a good job at making sure the room is clean. Lastly my expedia Gold status was not honored by a complimentary upgrade or breakfast (it was every other time). There are so many options available in NY, I will try another place next time
Hotel is a mess, it’s not organized, upon arrival my booked and paid for rooms had been oversold. I was there with my family and asked for joining rooms, I was lied to and told the hotel had none , not true, they do. Our family was placed all over the hotel , and we ended in a handicap room. we had to wait until almost 4 pm to get our rooms. The staff was as nasty as can be, rude and blaming me for its messy unorganized inefficient hotelI would never ever in good faith suggest this hotel to anyone. Bad service from beginning and it just got worse.I suggest enti e looking into this hotel to find somewhere else
My husband and I just got back from a trip to NYC. We were very pleased with our stay at the NoMad. The hotel was beautifully decorated and our room was clean. Trying to get a bellman was a little slow but the staff was very nice and welcoming. We would certainly stay again.
The hotel was under renovation during my stay, which made things a little unkempt, but the staff was courteous and professional in their makeshift lobby. The room itself, while small, had a clean, retro feel to it. Due to the construction, there were loud noises in the morning, but I was already awake.
They Lost a Customer...Me! I used to stay there all the time when it was the Carlton which had a certain Old New York charm but this new place is nothing more than another boutique knock-off. Lousy light in the rooms (I could barely read without going blind), no Business Center open that was represented on the website, VERY cramped spaces, inadequate bathroom (careful you dont slip in the shower, theres no mat) no movie on demand, cheap mini-table and chairs. Smart-alecky, disrespectful desk staff. Far too much money for too little. Im not going back until somebody buys this formerly great place and makes it a hotel for grownups.
My stay here was ok, but the subsequent customer service has been absolutely APPALLING. Upon check out, the front desk told me they would email me my folio. I never received it, and for 2 weeks now I have been calling the property (expensive overseas calls) to get this simple request fulfilled: to get a copy of my receipt. They keep telling me, for 2 weeks now, that their system is in transition period and that it will take 72 hours. Its absolutely unbelievable (and Im pretty sure illegal) that they are unable to send me a record of my stay. Everyone I have spoken to on the phone has been phenomenally unhelpful and rude. I will never stay here again due to this experience.
Landed in JFK pretty late but check in around midnight was smooth. There was no door*** at the entrance so I had to carry a huge luggage up the stairs to the hotel lobby to check in. The hotel room was tiny and had barely the space to keep my luggage but the room itself was clean and had everything I needed for a short stay. Checking out was equally smooth and quick as checking in. Overall it was a pretty good short stay for a pretty jet lagged traveler.
This hotel is definitely not ready to be occupied! We checked in at 5pm and the heating was not working in our room. When it’s 30°F outside, it is pretty much of the essence to be able to stay in a room that is above 50°F. We tried calling their front desk, housekeeping and even spoke a couple of times with the manager of the hotel to get the problem fixed. After multiple calls, which we had to do through our roaming cellphones (because, by the way, there’s no phone in our room) at 1:52am someone brought as a blanket (!!) to fix our problem. JUST GREAT.Don’t stay here, especially not in the winter. This hotel is not ready to be occupied, and their staff are definitely not ready/aware/proactive enough to function under that premise. Horrendous stay, will not return.
I paid 200 dollars for continental breakfast for 4 days for us and you wouldnt expect to give you just fruits or pastry, coffee and juice in a 4 star hotel!! Also, you can get fruits and coffee for free from the hotel anyway. When you go to the main desk for clarification their response was very poor and says they cant do anything about it.
The James Hotel NoMad. I stayed here a few nights for business , and really have to say that I enjoyed the elegant and sophisticated ambiance. I would highly recommend staying here for business or pleasure, as its location is great. I tried the Creamy polenta at the restaurant- I think its spelled scarpetta- and it was yummy yummy and actually very filling. After we checked out the cocktail bar, and stayed there for our second night out, just relaxing on a weekday night with a little private dim light setting. Drinks are pricey, but so is having an amazing time with amazing booze anywhere. So much to do around this area besides being right next to the empire state building -that is if you are into fine dining and love mid town.
Terrible Service. I stayed at this hotel recently for 10 days for a work trip. On my last night, I came back to my room to realise that my diamond necklace had been stolen. The only person that was in my room throughout the day was the cleaning staff. I have followed this up with The James Nomad NUMEROUS times and have heard nothing. I have constantly been ignored by hotel staff and it has now been over a month. Absolutely disgusted with the service.
The hotel is very nice and rooms are great. Concierge was also very helpful in suggesting places to go and the location is close to everything we wanted to see. My problem is with the oj - we paid $14 each for fake orange juice. If it was actually freshly squeezed juice I wouldn’t mind, but this was direct from a box and overpriced. $88 usd for a mediocre breakfast was disappointing and the two flimsy strips of bacon were gross. But it’s mainly about the oj.
Been staying here for years and as hesitant as I was with the change of ownership from the Carlton to the James, I have to admit, nostalgia aside, it has vastly improved. There is more of a modern upscale feel now. Service is spectacular, Doomy addressed one of my concerns over email check in and provided great service.
I love that it was located right in the midst of Manhattan. Everything located within a few blocks walk or cab ride away. Rooms were tidy , comfy and sleek, but still needed finishing touch here and there. The restaurant is a little pricey, but the experience of fine dining in a mod atmosphere was great! There are hundreds of options nearby,( walk to Times Square or Koreatown) if you prefer a more casual sitdown. Overall, I would come back definitely.
I booked this hotel to attend my High School reunionthe location was with in walking distance. The hotel staff are very friendly at all times and very helpful. The services are great throughout the hotel. We are looking forward to coming back to New York and staying at the Carlton.
Mind Blown 🤯, ONE OF THE BEST HOTELS IN NYC! Booked the hotel for a friends birthday, on arival they helped us with our bags, gave us an upgrade, have a complementary wine hour. The room was beautiful, clean, and spacious. The staff goes out of there way to make you feel comfortable, they are etreamly knowlagble about the area (food, atractions, etc). I have many friends how come and vist New York I am making sure they stay at the James NoMad.
For 2 days I went back and fourth with an employee from the James trying to do something nice for my childhood friend. Have champagne and strawberries delivered to her room. I typed up a beautiful note and was told they would deliver it to her room before she got there. Not only did they say they would comp the strawberries but instead they wrote a completely different note and signed it from the hotel....My friend was confused and Im beyond upset with the customer service. I wasted so much time trying to work with them and get this done. But my advice if you are trying to send someone a surprise while they are staying at the james hotel DO NOT DO IT. Because they dont understand how to follow directions or what the definition of hospitality means.
Bait and switch at its finest... We booked through there website upon arrival we where informed the room wasnt available even though we were able to book it online. I increased their rating because the gentleman at the desk did what they could to accommodate the issue. Be careful booking through their website. Make sure you call to verify the booking.
Great service people. We always stay here for our events in NY though upper management can be a hassle...UPDATE!Soooooooo after attempting to kick us out of here after we had already had our room prescheduled (as we had been doing for TEN YEARS), we got our room and all was well... UNTIL... (this happened about 20 minutes ago) one of the sales reps came into our BEDROOM insanely drunk with a team of four other people (mostly also very drunk) and yelled at my boss telling her that we shouldnt be here and that he should be charging us even more. Did I mention that it is 10pm at night and us three women were all quietly working in our pajamas? I feel pretty violated to be blatant. Almost scared to post this out of fear of what they might do, but refusing to stay quiet because thats simply not okay under ANY circumstance.
The room was spacious and had everything we would have needed. Would rather pay full price and get a beautiful room than have to spend time complaining about the room. Great location in Flat-iron district. I would stay there again if the needed to be in that location of New York.
Line to checkin was long. Three people at the counter but only one was working to check people in. I was shocked at the small room, especially because I had a deluxe room. The bed is definitely not a king, its somewhere between a queen and a double. I do understand this is NYC but 200sqft isnt deluxe, especially at the rate I was charged.
My husband was staying here for work for a week so I decided to join him for the last few days of his stay.Pros:1. Free coffee in the morning - its not very good but at least its an option2. The lobby is nice and has a lot of seating. No one was sitting there (probably because of COVID) but I can see it being a nice spot to have your breakfast in the morning during non-COVID times3. The loveseat is pretty comfy. Perfect if you need to work at the table4. Theres a mini fridge but it is filled with minibar items. However, there is a little but of extra room in there so it can fit some leftovers, if you really need to5. They provide a couple of face masks at check inCons:1. The bathroom is pretty small. There is just enough room for the door to open without hitting the toilet, so if you are closing the door, you have to stand off to the side in order to do so. Overall, the bathroom could use an upgrade2. The TV is to the side of the bed, which was a bit weird - but at least it swivels3. There arent a lot of surfaces to put things but you can use the heater and all of the window ledges
The front desk staff were so helpful and gave us great directions to all of the places we wanted to visit. We found the location to be perfect as it was right around the corner from The Empire State and only a ten minutes walk to Macys. Everyone was incredibly helpful and friendly.
I left my watch on the nightstand and it was stolen by housekeeping. I have tried numerous times to get compensation the past month and have repeatedly been lied to by hotel management. I am still waiting on a call back from the Mohammad, the Director of security, Vincent, the GM, and Mariota, The Director is Housekeeping. I will never stay at this hotel chain again and will be taking the matter up with the most senior member of hotel management who has the decency to speak with me.
Dont believe any of managements response to comments here. Its seemingly fake reconciliation at best. Its obvious because they do not even ask you to reach out regarding your issues. No reconciliation offered on my end, as I assume is the case with the rest of the complaints here.Pathetic service overall. Stay elsewhere for your own sanity.
Ill give a little bit of leeway because I know the construction here wont carry on forever. But here are my thoughts:Pros:- Really great front desk staff- Early check in was nice- Great location- Nice bathroomsCons:- No gym or restaurant (as of 12/3/17)- Paper thin walls- No real in-room amenities- So-So bed and sheets

2022-02-10Our stay at the James was great! The room was spacious and quiet. The hotel offers an evening wine hour and coffee and tea in the morning (no decaf coffee or herbal tea). The location makes it easily accessible from both Grand Central Station and Penn station. There are restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood. A yoga mat was provided and there was enough space in the room for yoga. Overall a very nice stay. We would definitely return in the future!

2022-03-29We had a wonderful time in New York and The James Nomad was a perfect place for our family. It is in a great location, very central to everything we wanted to do. The staff couldnt be nicer and more accommodating. Seriously, they were so nice! We loved the coffee service in the morning and happy hour in the evenings. Loved coming home after a long day of walking and exploring the city to their beautiful lobby and a glass of wine. The James is a very cool hotel without being too uptight. (Except for the bar downstairs... not affiliated with the hotel, but the hosts there were a bit snooty.)

2022-02-02Stayed two nights at The James Hotel, Nomad and was very pleased with the responsiveness from the manager Mr. Kent Fletcher. When a group of noisy wedding party individuals were disturbing our stay at the hotel, he quickly offered to move us to an upgraded room (suite) on a different floor. The location is great and we will definitely stay there again. The original room was small, but had all the amenities we needed and was very clean. Only thing missing was a complementary cup of coffee in the morning.😁.

2022-01-04The Jimmy Suite King was a good sized room, especially for NYC, which we appreciated. But I would have preferred a slightly larger bathroom and a slightly smaller bedroom - the bathroom is tiny! The room felt kind of sad. It was dark, and felt pretty sparse. It could definitely use some refreshing to feel a bit more luxurious. The staff were fine, though the bellman was a little concerning after he told us he could get the key to the gym for us if we didnt have vaccination cards to show. Otherwise, he was very helpful, bringing us water, extra glasses, and bedding to make up the sofa bed.The cleaning of the room was not thorough. Dirty glasses were left behind and not replaced with clean ones. Empty water bottles were left behind and not replaced. Some used washcloths were left in the bathroom while other towels were taken and replaced. It all felt haphazard. We had to call the front desk a few times because the things we requested came very piecemeal. We called for clean glasses, and because the light switches were not working. The glasses came, but no one came for the lights. Finally, after calling again, someone came and looked at the lights, and apparently the lamps needed to be plugged into some device in order to use the switch. The man who came said he would go look for one, and when we asked how we were to turn off the light if he couldnt fine one, we were told, Unplug it. Really, for $1k/night, we have to unplug and plug in the lamp!! Come on!On the bright side, the restaurant, Scarpetta, was fantastic.

2022-04-26My wife and I have a lovely 6 night stay at The James. The bed was so comfy I wish we could have taken it home. The staff were always super helpful and friendly. Also its location is perfect for transport up and down the island! You can get almost anywhere from the metro links. Would throughly recommend!

2022-03-31Stayed here two nights. Well-located, great amenities, and my room was clean, comfortable, and quieter than a lot of NY hotels. Most notably, the staff is absolutely lovely! Everyone I met went above and beyond to ensure my stay was wonderful.

2021-12-16We booked several rooms at The James for a long weekend with friends. The rooms and the service were terrific. We also really enjoyed the large lobby area, where we all could gather for coffee in the morning or after dinner. (They have an afternoon wine reception, which we missed each day!) The location provides easy access to the subway, though we walked most places, and took a few cabs. I’d gladly return there in future trips.

2022-04-26I wish it were possible to give no stars, but here we are. The room we were originally in was fair, although the sink didnt drain (they did fix that). We had ordered and were promised a rollaway bed for our final night. Didnt get delivered; asked as we were leaving for the wedding. Got stopped as we were exiting to be told it wouldnt fit in the room. (So why promise? Hmmm). Told they would have to give us another room to accommodate Silly me: I thought they were going to ADD a room. Nope: at midnight, after a night of partying, dancing, etc. we were told we needed to PACK UP our room and physically move to a new space. Not quite what I had in mind, but no choices available. Moved into a room where there was enough bed space, but the bathroom door wouldnt open all the way (because the toilet kept it from doing so.) ZERO counter space in the bath either. Could not wait to leave. Bellman dumped bags in the lobby, leaving us to lug them down the front stairs ourselves. Public toilet we used in the lobby was literally filled with feces, while other stalls had no toilet paper. DISASTER. DO NOT RECOMMEND AT ALL!

2022-04-24Overall the staff was great and attentive, and really enjoyed the daily wine happy hour and morning coffee, and the location was wonderful!Had a few issues with AC/heat not working, there was no in-room dining which was not aware until checking in, and the rooms are a bit dated and need some upgrades for sure.

2022-06-10Lovely hotel, very art deco. Wine reception every night was a nice touch. Rooms high spec and very clean
