What a great show!!!What a great person Mr. Stephen Colbert is!!!I got a ticket of this show several months ago via internet.2 hour before the filming time, we have towait in line in front of the Ed Sullivan Theater.Taking pictures and recording is prohibit in the theater. So you have to keep in memory about the filming experience.A local comedian warms audience up before starting the show for 30 minutes. Then, Stephen is coming, and give us a welcoming speech.Everyday, The late show welcomes great guest(famous person), so you will be existed at the show! And Stephens political joke and humor is very interesting. You cannot stop laughing during the show! The music of Stay Human was brilliant, excellent!!!
Go online to get tickets. You cant just show up at the theater. That said, youll be very pleased with how well they manage audience lines. Theres the Priority line and the General line. The directions are explicit in the confirmation email, so read it completely and thoroughly to get in your line on time. If youre in the General line youre probably in if you are within the first 50 people. The number of Priority attendees may impact who gets cut from the General line (and would be invited to another taping). No joke: it gets COLD in the theater to offset the blazing lights! So dont be ashamed to grab your light hoodie or sweater even if its 98 degrees outside! You might need it!Also, warm up your cheering voice! Its your job to provide the live top tape audience applause, laughter and audible feedback for STEPHEN COLBERT, Jon Batiste and his band - Stay Human, and of course the guest!
On my husband and my way to Lincoln Center to see the Pride Fountain/plaza grassy area, we walked by in honor of opening night for our favorite Stephen Colbert, on his opening night, June 14, 2021. I was lucky to get to be in his audience in 2018. Can’t wait to see him in person again…
Come on really, Stephen Colbert is he not the absolutely funniest guy on TV presently. And perhaps smartest, that doesnt say much for the worlds total IQ.Oops, OK my mistake its Trump, Im fired..But seriously Im dying (laughing) to see him , ever since the cosmic icon,Jon Stewart introduced him. How the heck do you get tickets?????😦😕🤓 DoLike 👍👍👍if laughing
This was one fun time! Tickets to this show are very difficult to get, but, the quest is worthwhile. The warmup comedian, Paul Mercurio, is hilarious and Colbert comes out before the show for some Q & A, unlike his predecessor, Letterman (we saw him 3x). The house band, John Batiste and Stay Human, are amazing and keep the energy in the Ed Sullivan Theater (yep, the same place the Beatles played) rocking.Get here if you can. Id post more pictures, but youll have to find out for yourself!
What an absolutely fun experience to be part of the studio audience for one of my favorite shows. I was so intrigued to see everything that goes on behind the camera and how the show is filmed. Stephen is as always an excellent host, and I hope he continues to find great success hosting The Late Show. The staff was also very friendly and accommodating. If youre a fan of The Late Show, this is a cant miss experience to be part of the studio audience.
Such a GREAT experience!! Ive been a fan since the Colbert Report, but those takings were harder to get into due to space; the Ed Sullivan theater seats 400, so we got priority tickets online. The wait is long, but well worth it. We were in the second row, so everything was literally before our eyes; however, there were cameras moving around so sometimes our view was obstructed. They have a strict no phone on, no picture policy, which was a slight bummer because the stage was amazing. We definitely have new appreciation for the John Batist and Stay Human...they were amazing. They basically provide a private concert every night. Stephen was amazing. Cant say more good things about him and the show. Definitely go to the taping next time youre in NYC!Also, quick shout out to Angelos for graciously letting use their bathroom while waiting in line.
We got free tickets from iota. We got there at the time suggested but ended up being the last in line.Be sure to get there as early as you can to make sure you get the best seat possible.Once inside, photos and videos are not allowed. The show was a blast, and Stephen and the band were funny and friendly.
Really fun experience! Lots of energy and the studio is much smaller than it appears on screen, so you are very close to Stephen and his guests if you are on the ground floor. We reserved tickets for a Thursday taping and got to sit in for tapings for both the Thu and Fri show! I dont know if thats a regular thing, but it was definitely a bonus to sit for two tapings and to see twice the guests!
We had general admission so we got in line around 2:00. They told us there were a lot of VIPs so we might not make it in... got rejected after waiting 3 hours! Just before we left the line one of the stage managers said he could get us in. Awesome. Had probably the worse seats in the theater but it didnt matter we had a wonderful time. You can still see everything, Colbert talks to anyone willing to shout out a question, and everyone there is super nice. Just dont expect to break out your camera inside without getting a stern, Sir! NO PHONES! In which case you can just act super foreign, possibly lost, and its all good.
We arrived about 2:30 and we were about the 6th people in line, not bad however we waited until 3:45 to move inside to another line where we waited another 45min, the staff is cordial at best, we were told once inside the building if we needed to use the bathroom now was the time because no bathroom access was allowed during or after the show, once inside the theater you sit for another 30min listening to INSANELY loud music blasting through speakers ear piercing uncomfortably loud and its extremely cold, honestly I bet the loud music and cold theater are supposed to keep you awake for the performance but it just irritated me, after waiting in the rain for almost 2 hours and then another long wait in the lobby being ushered into ridiculously loud music and coldness made you feel unappreciated as a fan, the staff greets the audience a few times making sure to tell how much they appreciate you, but its rather unbelievable from the process they take to get you seated. I feel like the process could be better if they changed it up a bit. Your guests cant feel appreciated while being herded around like cattle no access to bathrooms and his staff seem over it and less then thrilled. I like Stephen Colbert but, this process was an eye opening experience. The word FABRICATED comes to mind. Dont take your g-parents (lol) and wear something warm or cool depending on the weather and maybe show up 3-330 and in my opnion the best seats are the balcony seats no camera blocking their view. Go, have fun but use my advice youll have more fun.
My mother and I went to the Stephen Colbert taping. It was great. The Ed Sullivan Theatre is historic and the original ceiling and colums inside the lobby area were beautiful.the staff was super friendly and kind. They were very organized and informative. No words for Mr. Colbert, the band, the stage crew and EVERYONE even the audience. I will go again and recommend this as a must go show.
Stephen Colbert is one of the funniest late night shows, two years and counting. His humor is tongue in cheek and he really connects with the audience. The whole process to get into the show was fairly easy but because its popular, early birds fair better both online and standing online the day of. The show pre-tapes Monday through Thursday at the Ed Sullivan Theater. Show set is even more electric in person than on the TV. John Baptiste and Stay Human provide high energy entertainment and are a superb band. Must see show. My personal favorite is his Midnight Confessions segment and obviously the monologue.
Steve was great, as was Stay Human and Jon as well as guests but warm-up comedian horrible! All he did was run around stage and spew profanity-laced everything, so trashy for such a classy show, replace him now with Gina DiCiccio, she is great, funny and lovable, much more welcoming and you know you are in a good place.
Love Stephen & Evie. They kept us all sane during the pandemic. The studio basically moved in to a closet in their home during the madness and Stephen kept us smiling. Evie kept the show running smoothly with their family too. So tonight it was beautiful to be a part of the audience on the second week back in studio at the Ed Sullivan theater.in NYC. Jon Baptist was fantastic as usual and all the other musicians were great too. Wonderful crew, wonderful show.Your very lucky, if you get to go!
It took from 15:30 to 17:00 to enter and get thought security.Nice cool interesting entertaining love every minute.Stephen nice and witty as known, the John Babtiste amazing with the Stay Human I danced continuously🤗😊. We had Audrey Plaza and Jeff Goldblum (surprise as he was not listed for the night) my teenage love ❤️❤️❤️ . It was a show :)The only sad thing was in the world of selfies and tags not allowing even a photo at begin and one at the end( we were so happy of being there) as a memory is evil, even with the empty stage was denied. Really evil. 🤔Why? Everything is on TV anyway. Beside the people in audience and us everything is on tv... Not understanding why not at least this 2 photos :) .I would return when in NY, and is a wonderful experience in particular. Thank you for the show ☺️❤️
I went to Colberts Show before the pandemic in 2018. The taping of the show, the sausage is not as good as the show, although the musical guest performed 2 songs for us. They actually taped 2 shows at the same time, one for that day (which was thursday) and one for the next day as well. The live show was choppy, of course, unlike the Tonight Show which I saw in LA in 2006. That seemed like one continuous show that catered toward the studio audience. Things might be different now, post pandemic, but still, I love the show and love Steven Colbert.
A memorable fun experience. Stephen has been our all time favorite. We booked the tickets online almost a month in advance before going to New York for some business. They were free and priority seating so don’t be late!No backpacks are allowed so be ready for that. The whole thing took from 2-3 hours and it’s unforgettable! Would recommend if it’s one of your favorite shows.
Went to a show during the first six months of its launch. Going to any of the late night shows is a fun experience that you simply must do at some point in your life. Stephen Colbert is the best! The warm up show before the show is a lot of fun. Colbert puts more effort and talent into it than any other show. Get in line early is my best advice.
Lots of waiting in line. It takes a long time to get into the theater seats. It was unclear what the reason for this was. When we got in, it was a fun experience watching the show. The band was the best part. They were excellent performers. Colbert gave a good show. It was a good time.
More fun than I could have imagined! I knew there would be a lot of standing in line waiting, as well as a lot of stairs if you had to use the bathroom, but the actual show was worth every minute of it!!! Loads of interacting with the audience, Stephen was personable and funny! My Sweetie* and I were chosen by the warm up comedian (*pot grower from Humboldt) to go up on stage which was hilarious! Good time, awesome music from the band... all great!
Amazing experience to see the Stephen Colbert magic in person!! Hes got a great energy and it was super fun to see how they film one of our favourite shows. Even if you have tickets, you end up lining up for quite a while; bring comfy shoes! Once youre inside, youre clapping and yelling quite loudly, so we were hoarse the next day. We didnt mind all that though, as we were so excited to be there. Definitely worth the visit! The theatre is also beautiful!
Amazing experience! Im a great fan of Colbert. However standing outside on a cool winter for almost 3 hours was challenging. They should come up with a better plan for audience to get in. Other than that it was great. Will try to attend next time hopefully as a priority guest!
The show experience itself was fun and we had a blast seeing the show get created. The cameras blocked a lot of the views of the folks on stage though. The way they let the various groups and lines into the theatre was confusing, and I ended up waiting in 90 degree heat for almost two hours, but eventually made it in. Theres a lot of seats inside so I think most people did make it in.Worth a visit once!
An awesome night at the taping of this show. Theyve got plenty going on to stop people from getting too itchy. Even just showing Stephen Colbert clips while in the lobby was a good touch. All crowd handlers were extremely professional, the band an absolute delight to see live, the comedian great, and the few minutes before the show with the man himself great to experience. An awesome taping!
Fabulous performance of course! Beautiful, historic theater. Keep in mind that there is a lot of standing, yelling at the top of your lungs, and bright lights in your eyes the whole time. You have to wait standing in a claustrophobic space for over an hour, but they run everything smoothly. You cannot use the bathroom during the performance and you have to have your phone completely off.
We had a blast at the taping. You reserve tickets online prior. When you arrive, prepare to wait in line for a long time. The total process takes about 4 hours. Once inside the theater, they bring out a comedian to warm the audience up, and he brings people on stage and rags on them, lots of fun and high energy. Stephen comes out and talks to you before the taping starts. The better seats are probably on the balcony, as there were many cameras blocking the view on the first floor. Overall very fun!
Had an awesome time here. The staff, stephen, and everything involved with the show was great. Such a good experience and a must-do if you have time. My only issues were due to two things. 1. We had priority tickets but since we were tourists we didnt know how things worked. We had our tickets scanned then were placed in the general admission line, not priority. This made us have worse seats and a much longer wait time in the cold. 2. The wait time. Our hotel is close to times square about 10 minutes away. It was a total of almost two hours before we were in the venue and seated. I feel this could be managed better.
WARNING: Do not bring a back pack! My mom had to give hers away so we could get in. Purses seemed to be ok though. Other than that the show was great. There are a lot of people who come on before Stephen to hype you up for the show. It was super fun to see what you cant on television.
Overall a pretty good experience. The show was fun and interesting to watch live, there was live music during the commercial breaks and Colbert comes across as a pretty authentic guy in his brief question and answer sessions with studio audience. HOWEVER, the major downside is that you have stand around for two hours outside before you have to sit around for an hour in the studio watching an empty stage before anything remotely interesting happens. But good energy and a fun time, especially if youre a fan of the show (disclaimer: normally I dont watch the show)
Amazing experience!! The production crew and staff managing the guest experience were very well organized and on top of all the logistics of having that many people in the live audience for the taping, so the whole process ran smoothly. Getting to see the show live and witness everything that goes into making it behind the scenes was a truly unique and special experience!
A visit to the Late Show with Stephen Colbert was a highlight of my time in New York. Book your tickets online to secure your seat. Filmed in the early afternoon its an awesome way to see how the show you enjoy watching is put together. Be aware, the theatre is extremely cold so bring a jumper or something warm or youll be uncomfortable.
It was pretty cold, so the staff got us inside early, rather than waiting outside. Really well organised, the taping which took about two hours was seamless, Jon Batiste and Stay Human were great and to see Stephen Colbert was something I’ve been waiting about 10 years for. Just a great experience. The only disappointment was that they’d run out of mugs at the concession stand.
This experience required a lot of patience and waiting, but it was so much fun. I love Stephen Colbert so it was great to see him sooo his show live. He does a Q&A between takes and its cool to see how the show comes together. If you have the time, its definitely worth doing in my opinion. Just be ready to wait in at least 3 long lines to participate. There is a whole procedure to getting tickets, check the website for info, it is pretty straight forward.
Bad part: takes ages to get inside and theres a lot of waiting and standing around before the shows starts. 2-3hours at least?Good part: seeing the show live is a great experience. The production really makes a big effort to make the show an enjoyable experience for the studio audience just as much as the TV viewer. Also, its free.
Fantastic show!!Tickets are not easily available, but if you got them, you are in for a treat. The priority ticket lines start at 3, so if you want those nice front row seat, be sure to reach before 3:15. Also, dont be late!! If you reach after 4, youll have to go all the way back to end of the general line.Note: you will have to wait in the line for at least an hour. Keep the weather outside in mind.Inside, there will be some performances by stand-up comedians and the band before Stephen comes. The band is awesome as well. The show would be over by 7pm.
Its two and a half hours of waiting in line to get to the seats for no good reason. All the waiting time is just standing (we had priority tickets!).They really should provide seats and water for the waiting time.During the 3 hours of the shooting of the show you are not allowed to go to the bathroom. But whats even worse is that in the end of the show they lock the door of the restrooms so you cant go in and you need to find a shop in the street with a restroom.I had reservations for the show and came with my 70 your old father who is a big fan of the show and it was painful for me to see him struggling to stand for 2 and 1/2 hours while waiting to be seated. The show itself is a great experience!!! (:Colbert gives a great show and the band is really awesome!I hope the production of show will start caring just a bit about the audience and starts treating them like people and being just a bit more concerned of their well-being.
Definitely one of the main highlights of my time in New York! Stephen Colbert is wonderful and apart from the somewhat lengthy wait in the lobby (in which there are televisions that play clips of the show to keep people entertained) prior to the show, everything from the music to the comedian and the atmosphere was fantastic. Highly recommend!
I went to a Thursday taping which was a taping for both Thursday and Friday shows. It was a great experience. Stephen was hilarious and seems like a genuinely nice guy. Be prepared to stand in line for at least 2 hours even if you have priority tickets and bring a small coat or sweater as the studio is very cold.
What more is there to say? You get to wait a couple of hours in the cold to see Stephen Colbert for free. If you enjoy Stephen and the band Staying Human its well worth the visit if you have the time. Theres only a small amount of audience interaction, have a question prepared for Stephen and you might get lucky and be one of those chosen to ask.
Amazing experience; the Ed Sullivan Theater is unlike any studio where you normally view a TV show recording. You arrive before 4pm to ensure you claim your seats and get out around 7. Aside from the long wait in the lobby before you are seated, the whole experience is very entertaining and worth trying at least once.
Fantastic show. Stephen was so funny and precise with his knowledge. And his band, they are out of this world. Those guys can play, sing, dance and entertain. They sure had the crowd going. The warm up guy was excellent also. He even called my friend and I on stage to chat. He is hilarious.
The show was amazing! Jon Baptiste and Stay Human are an amazing band. Stephen Colbert was, per usual, his affable, humorous, and quirky self. The production and support staff were so friendly and helpful. Though a full house they put my friend and I in folding chairs at the top of the house. Thank you Late Show for a fun evening!
A dream come true for me, going to see Colbert was a great experience. The line was long but the ushers were friendly and kept us organized. Getting ino the theater took a while but it was done methodically without disruptions. The warm up guy was funny, the band was great and Stephen himself was amazing. The level of professionalism across the entire crew was mindblowing. The Late Show doesnt need a hard sell but if you get a chance just go for it - its worth it.
The show is a lot of fun; Steven is great as is the band! Be prepared to wait around, be moved like cattle and laugh/applause on cue. The staff is very grumpy (I suppose they deal with a lot of grumpy people all week). There must be a better way to handle the seating.
It was my first time seeing Colbert live, and it was a great experience. Not fantastic by any means, but definitely a good time (with some gripes).I have two main issues:First, the constant requirement to be loud and laugh on command whenever the show breaks for commercial and comes back makes my energy feel artificial and, quite frankly, violated. I realize that the show is live and the energy of the crowd is important, but I feel like thats even more reason for it to be REAL rather than artificial. The band and comedian before Colbert do a decent job of energizing the crowd, but if the show fails to generate genuine excitement and laughter out of the crowd, then it shouldnt be the crowds job to support that and carry that burden.Second, the commercial breaks are FREQUENT. And I mean every 3-5 minutes. Colbert was on the stage for roughly 40 minutes and I spent just as much, if not more, time observing him sitting there (not interacting with the crowd) as I did when he was on-air. This coupled with the constant requirement of needing to laugh, cheer, and applause (roughly three time as loud as normal) twice every time a commercial happens really just makes the show feel less special.Tl;Dr show was funny, he is a comedian, 50% of the jokes fell flat (not bc of topic but purely bc they were written poorly) but the other 50% hit extremely well. Nothing is off limits. Show is definitely more left-leaning in political view, but still very enjoyable for conservatives especially if you maintain an open mind. Constant need to supply energy to the stage crew/actors/bands/Colbert is draining and is the worst part of the show. They are very appreciative of it so maybe its a little more bearable. And the show is still very entertaining to see it at least once. Further trips would have to be fueled by a special guest Id like to see (not that you can choose when you get ur tickets...)
Get here early! If you get your priority tickets ahead of time youll be one of the lucky 100 that get to sit in the main floor. There are no bad seats in the house dont worry! But they WILL run out of seats, so line up! Colbert is an absolutely great show, this is more of the behind the scenes and how they make it. Get your cheer voice ready!
The taping itself was extremely fun and a different experience altogether, but be prepared for a 3hr wait while standing to get a decent seat. Its also very cold inside, probably to keep people awake and energised, so bring a sweater. Stephen is amazing and a great performer.
Wonderful experience. Make sure you frequently check your email for an upgrade from general to priority. I almost missed that. We got amazing seats and it was so cool to see Staphen Colbert doing the show live in front of us. LOTS of standing. Be prepared for your legs to ache something awful. But its worth it.
The best free entertainment ticket in NYC, you just never know what youre gonna get. I got an interview with Aubrey Plaza (love her) and democratic politician Beto ORourke. Also, great live music from in house band Stay Human throughout the duration. Just make sure you book well in advance. And be ready to stand in queue for 90 minutes to get in. Also, the warm up comedian roasts the crowd, but its all good fun!
Not sure if Stephen will see this but this is more than just him being a GREAT host, the band was PERFECT, the wait time was a little much (2 hours) but thats our fault for wanting to be one of the first ones in. So far, Ive been to the tonight show and Seth Meyers but this one felt too natural. Loved, loved, LOVED IT!
The show itself is fun but the process of getting into the theater is exhausting! Youre told to arrive at 3pm but be prepared to stand in line for 3 hours while the ushers keep telling to move closer to the people in front of you, not comfortable. Once we were seated we had to wait close to an hour for the show to start and they had these chaotic bathroom rules, they really need to improve on the whole experience. Only about 500 people can fit inside so I dont know why it has to be so confusing. Plus one of the guests that was advertised for the show had taped his segment on a different day, they never mentioned that so it was a little disappointing. Also with all the cameras in the way its very difficult to see the guests once they sit but I realize that cant be helped. All in all it was fun but it took over 5 hours so make plans accordingly!
The earlier you show up for tickets the closer your seats are to the stage. I suggest showing up between 1:30-2:00. Once you receive your wrist band you still cant leave the line so be prepared to stand for a while. Once in the theatre its a really fun atmosphere! Youll have your warmup comic to get people loose, the stage manager makes sure your loud, and Stay Human performs for you to have some more fun. Then of course Colbert comes out and does a short Q&A and shortly after, he begins the show. Colbert is super funny and the band is amazingly talented. The long wait pays off.
I went to the Late Show while in NYC. You have to book your tickets a month in advance on 1iota if you hope to get priority seating. Being part of a live studio audience in the iconic Ed Sullivan studio was fantastic. If you like music played by highly skilled musicians, youll love John Babtiste and Stay Human. Theres so much more to experience than when you watch the show on television. We clapped, danced, cheered, laughed and just had an all around great time here. You also get to see how a TV studio operates with a director, cameras, filming various segments, and how the audience contributes to the overall production. Hats off to Stephen Colbert who smoothly navigated throughout the 2 hours of taping without even needing a second take at anytime. Loved it
Apply for tickets well in advance but if you do get them, a great afternoon spent! Depending on the type of tickets you get, youll either be in the Core line that gets in first or if you have a General ticket, asked to come back later to see if theres space left. The CBS staff keep you entertained as you wait and theres two tiers of where youre able to sit. The earlier you get, the closer to the front you are!Theres a warm up guy to keep the audiences energy lively and the band also play music between ad breaks. Sometimes they have special musical guests and it turns into a right party! Stephen Colbert is just lovely. He gave some time to answer questions before we jumped right into the recording.
I went to the debates and boy was I tired by the end. But the 3 hours of standing in line, to stand in more line, to get into the theater was 100% worth every moment. I was towards the very front, got into the 3rd row. If youre not smiling & laughing during every moment, then youre heartless - go away, you dont deserve this beautiful spectacle and experience.
Colbert is a gem, Jon Baptiste and stay human could be its own show they are so great and inventive. The staff does there best to get you into the theater quickly. Grab a bite around the corner as you will be in the studio for 3-3.5 hours easy but it really flies by. No cellphones in the theater so leave your DSLRs at home please. He answers question before the show starts to think of good (non-creepy) questions early and dont be shy. They really want you to bring the energy so rest those vocal cords and be ready to give the camera your best. If you have tickets for this you are in for a real treat so be early and excited!
Went to see The Late Show with David Letterman and it was a blast. Really a dream finally true! Will go there as soon as I get a chance for the Colbert show, it looks awesome! Its a pity that if youre coming from outside the US you cant book online but have to do the process in person on the day of the show.
Since they give out more tickets than they have seats, we lined up for 3 hours outside in the cold with other ticket holders and barely made it in.Once inside we enjoyed every minute. The theatre is gorgeous inside (a beautiful domed ceiling and lots of stained glass) and the entire experience was a lot of fun.
Really great experience!First off, you MUST show up around 2pm if you have priority seating. Now, the wait to get inside was the only negative I have to say. It was a bit chilly outside and there was definitely enough space inside to allow us to wait in there...You cannot bring a backpack with you, regardless of its size. They tell you to check your bags in at a nearby hotel and the hotels are allowed to deny your request btw.Once they let you in around 4-4:30, you get just one chance to use the bathroom. After that, you cannot go again, even after the show the bathrooms are closed (go to Starbucks across the street, they’re nice too)It’s cold in the theater so bring a jacket/thick scarf! The theater and stage are both beautiful! However, unlike the Daily Show, you cannot take pictures once inside the theater. You will be greeted by a warm-up Comedian (we got Paul Mecurio our night and he personally picked my BF and I to get roasted on stage haha).John Batiste and Stay Human will come out after and play some great music. They are even better in person and all talented!Right after they’re done playing, Stephen Colbert comes out and does a Q&A for 3 questions and then heads back to pretend he’s coming out for the first time for the recorded version. The rest, is whatever they have specifically planned for the night.Btw, if your ticket is on a Thursday, you get to be a part of two shows (Thurs & Fri). There’s a small stand inside the theater to buy apparel after the show if you want (pricey though!)Great experience. Tickets are free. Go check it out!
Went to see Stephen Colbert. The late show. They make you wait on line outside and inside. No waiting room to sit down like other shows. They let you use the restroom before you go to see the taping. Beautiful old theatre. We had orchestra seats. But note theres a balcony
The show was amazing. It was everything I hoped it would be. The only reason Im giving it 3 stars is because the gift shop after the show only accepts credit/debit cards with chips. No cash. No slide. Only chip. I really wanted to pick up some merch after the experience, but was turned away because my card doesnt have a chip. That was very disappointing.
I love this show, on tv.. I hate attending the taping of it.The process of finally being seated is painful!Your tickets are not guaranteed to secure a seat. You have to go early (12pm) and line up because its on a first come first serve basis. You have to wait for 2 hours before they give you the actual ticket. You then can leave the line for an hour and come again for another hour line. Then you will be allowed to enter the building and wait again for like 30 minutes. Then youll be seated and a warm up comedian will entertain you and then only Colbert will show up. You line up at 12pm and the actual taping starts around 6pm.. 6 freaking hours painful wait. Poor management and humiliating.
Four stars because of the waiting in line for an hour and half with no sitting options. It is very hard when you get there after a working day and eventhough you have a priority tickets you have to wait on your feet. I do understand wait time but being standing all these time is a little frustrating. Stephen Colbert was amazing of course!!! One of the best comedians!
Stephen was great, of course. The wait outside in the cold want fun, but I did expect that. Nonetheless, theres about an hour or so of taping, but the experience takes for our five hours, so its not really a five star day, but it was still really fun and the staff was perfectly nice.
Stephen Colbert is an amazing host. On and offline. Throughout filming breaks, he interacts with the audience, lets people ask him questions and answers honestly. Theres a level of community during the filming of the show that Ive not seen anywhere else. And the opening comic was hilarious too!
The Colbert show is still getting the kinks out of the audience process. There was a LOT of unnecessary standing and waiting-- hours of it. Ive been to a lot of TV tapings, including Colberts Comedy Central show and also the Letterman show at this theater, but have never encountered one where guests are expected to stand and wait for hours at a stretch.I would not bring any older folks who have difficulty standing for long periods-- even among the younger and middle-aged line members, tempers were flaring and patience was wearing thin as the standing in line with no forward movement stretched into (and beyond) the second hour. The show itself is a treat, and getting to see Colberts band Stay Human live is a particular joy, but if you have the option to wait until they get a little bit better at loading the house, I would recommend it.
Lots of fun to be at the live taping and the theater is pleasantly cool. Tip: dont show up with a knapsack, even a tiny one. They wont let you on line. But do bring something to do while you wait (phones are fine for most of the wait time, till youre by the actual set).
We couldn’t have been happier with the entire experience. We reserved tickets online and got a favorable reply by email a few days later. With just a few clicks, we scored two general admission tickets for free! Our tickets were upgraded to ‘Priority’ two days before the show, and when we finally showed up, we learned that the show for the day will be broadcast live, and not pre-taped. The show airs at 11:30 PM (ET) so we had to wait some time after being seated.I agree with all the glowing reviews here about Stephen and the entire crew, plus the show itself. Stephen in particular was affable and gracious to his guests, the audience, and his team. There’s not an inch of attitude typically expected of media personalities of his stature. Here’s how the entire show went:[1] Check-in outside the theater + security screening (45 min)[2] Waiting in line at the lobby + restroom opp (30 min)[3] Seating, pre-show briefing, entertainment, one final restroom opp (2.5 hrs)[4] Show proper (1 hr)Some practical info:Read the rules carefully, especially on dress code and what you are allowed to bring inside the theater. Check the weather forecast - it was below freezing when we visited and we had to wait in line outside. Have ear plugs handy, especially when the show kicks off to a roaring start.
The show was phenomenal. The wait on the other hand was atrocious. Youre stuck in a line from the time you arrive outside until 3:45pm, then wait inside the building in a hot room with little air circulation until 4:30ish.The taping and being a part of the live audience is great but the lead up to it was tedious and disheartening.
A waste of TV time. I had the pleasure of seeing the Late Show once with its first host. Needless to say I had a respect for that host because I grew up with his humor. His successor is another story quite frankly. Its my understanding he has a very large audience which I think is totally ridiculous simply because of his opening monologues that are completely unpatriotic. At least first host was fair to everybody. This host has to go back to college, broadcasting school and comedy school to relearn how to entertain people. The actual studio is huge and is kept very cold. The balcony is a great place to sit as well. What can I say, its a theater. Its really too bad that the ghost of Ed Sullivan does not help the current host become a better entertainer. It is all about rating, lol!!! Sell tickets rather than long lines!! Watch at home.
The theater itself is fine, but on the small side. The issue is getting in. When you get tickets for the show they ask you to show up two hours before taping starts, but they leave you standing on the sidewalk until fifteen minutes before taping. There security process is quick and easy though.
We drove in from Philadelphia went to our hotel checked in order an Uber drove that to the Late Night show at the Ed Sullivan Theater only to be turned away we arrive there at 4 p.m. Our paper for General seating said to be there by 4:30 I was very disappointed since that was a show I was looking forward to seeing! I love Stephen Colbert & was there to celebrate my 60th Birthday April 3rd
Its an insane process. You gotta reserve tickets online, hope you get one, and then you gotta go wait in line for 2 hours, hope you get in, and then more waiting inside. During the show you cannot go to the washroom or eat. Ugh.Its kinda fun to see the behind-the-scenes action though.I wouldnt come again.
Got tickets to see the show last night, been a huge fan of Stephen Colbert from way back when he was doing the Colbert Show on Comedy Central. It was such a trill seeing for the first time, I totally had a blast at the taping. Hoping to do another taping real soon. Thank for all the laughs Mr. Colbert!
We learned of the intricacies of producing one hour show daily. I particularly have been a fan of Stephen Colbert for years. I enjoy his wit and he has given me HOPE during our dark hours. Mixed with JoY and laughter. He had Ray Donovan as a guest today. He has very interesting guests. I loved the show with Cynthia Erivo, I think that is the name of the actress in HARRIET. A fantastic movie that would be good for all students to watch. I loved tonights show.
The Ed Sullivan Theater is a lovely home to The Late Show and once inside its a nice experience to have at least once. Getting inside, however, is a mind-numbing process of standing around patiently as the staff implies that youre just moments away from going inside and that youll surely be comfortably in your seat any minute now.And the seats are pretty comfortable and they all seem to offer a great view of the action on stage. The pre-show comedian was Paul Mecurio when we were there and he was pretty funny.
I got priority seating by getting on the wait list online. Priority groups have guaranteed seats. And not a bad seat in the house! Although I got really tired of cheering and clapping halfway through. (But thats just me.)They do make you store large backpacks. And photography is absolutely prohibited.
Its The Late Show, its Stephen Colbert, Im not sure theres too much else to say about it.The actual show part with Stephen was great, but the rest of the experience felt like being herded like cattle. I didnt like being told to clap and laugh even if the jokes arent funny.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was fun, but had a few downsides. First, they made us stand around in line for a few hours. This was very tiring. Second, the actual show is not meant for the audience. There are cameras in the way, so it is hard to see things. Plus they are talking in to their microphones, so it is hard to hear what everyone is staying. Still, it was funny and deserving of 3 stars.
A lot of waiting, but worthwhile.A quite funny comedian warmed up the crowd, and the band played an energetic long opening song. Finally, SC had a brief Q&A with the crowd before his show started.SC is quite friendly, humble, and nice.It was interesting to see how hard he is working, although he hides this well in front of an audience. He gradually becomes more and more relaxed with progression of the show. One could really sense that a lot of preparation, hard work, and focus go into each and every of his performances, which always look so effortless on TV. A lot in his show is not rehearsed ad nauseam, which makes his job probably much harder. While he is undoubtedly extremely quick-witted and easily could dominate any conversation, he lets his guests shine during the interviews if they turn out to be really funny (like our guest, the very entertaining Mayim Bialik). It definitely is worth to see SCs very human side and how close it is to his TV persona. One leaves with a bit more of admiration for him.
The Great Ed Sullivan theater where Ed said, Theres a really big show Where the Beatles and The Rolling Stones set the pace for music. I recently saw The David Letterman show and had the pleasure of sitting in the balcony. These are good seats for the show but you miss a lot of the audience participation. Dave never looks up.Its true the theater is cold. The bathrooms are located all the way downstairs!!!Lots of cameras hang from the ceiling and the stage looks small. The band seems crowded while Daves desk has no clutter surrounding it. Also always wondered why the seats are so cheap looking!!!
It was astounding. It was worth the 5 hours of standing in a line then going into another line.... Then another... Definitely a must do if youre planning to go in the area. If you even want a chance ti get in you need to pre-order the tickets months beforehand the moment it opens up. But they are free tickets!
My boyfriend and I were traveling to New York from out of state for a few days, so I put in for tickets. We were lucky and scored priority tickets weeks in advace. We were both beyond ecstatic, not only did we get tickets to his favorite show, but it was ON HIS BIRTHDAY!! Surprising him with this felt like winning the lottery. Being from out of state, we had a little bit of trouble managing the subway system, and took longer than expected to get to the show. We were SIX minutes late, and completely denied entry. Ive worked in customer service for years, and I understand sometimes there is simply nothing you can do, because its out of your hands. However, the staff was completely unsympathetic. Not only is it my boyfriends birthday, but we traveled from out of State. Not only that, but they had general admission and waitlist people still in line, they hadnt filled the theater. Had the staff even listened remotely or pretended to care, Im sure they could have accomadated us. Even in the situation if staff couldnt do anything, they could have at least been kinder about the situation.
They dont let you in with any type of bag and they dont provide any solution for it (no coat checking and they dont suggest any place). So if you bring even a small backpack, you have to figure out where to leave it on your own. Otherwise it was a pleasent experience, even with all the waiting in line
What an absolute blast! We arrived around noon and that got us front row seats. Paul Mercurio warmed up the crowd with some fun ahead before the band kicked it into Mardi Gras gear. Guests were Olivia Wilde and Christiane Amanpour who were both good, but not really the reason we were there. Stephen Colbert was the reason, and he comes out, nearly unannounced, causing the crowd to erupt. Hope we can do this again! One minor issue...the place was bloody cold...even for we Canucks.
Not only do you have to wait outside in the heat for at least half an hour past the time youre supposed to be there, but they cram everyone together as tightly as possible. Awful. The very least they could do for their guests is have some fans running to help cool everyone.

2021-12-14If you are in NYC and you get a chance for tickets. You should definitely go and see the show. It is a great experience. However keep in mind it takes between 3 to 4 hours so plan accordingly.

2022-01-22Eh. I know its free and all but they make you stand on line for like 2 hours and you have no idea who the guest is so if you land on some politician (like i did) be prepared for boredom. Its cool to see how the show works though.

2021-06-17Arrived at 4pm and was near end of line cutoff. They start letting general admission in promptly at 4:30pm. You walk through a metal detector before entering main theater. Was by myself so I got to fill in a single spot close and with good view. Warm up started promptly around 5pm. Stage manager intro and band around 5:15pm. Stephen Colbert Q&A around 5:30pm. Show starts about 5:45pm. Things move quickly so there is not a lot of waiting around. Once show is over exit doors open and exiting is easy. Smoothest show experience Ive been to. Stephen, Jon, and whole crew are super friendly!

2022-05-04Great experience. I was a bit scare from the all the warning they gave you about not being able to leave the room once it starts, not even to use the restrooms and they saying it might be hours of shooting but it wasnt that terrible and we had so much fun we totally forgot about it. We got to see two recordings so it was double fun.

2022-08-03The check in process wasnt that great, in fact is sucked but I understood.James Taylor was with the band, OMG a living legend. Both me and son sang his songs in chorus, my mother listened to his music as well. Colbert was funny, his staff were professional. I enjoyed the whole experience. It was neat seeing the whole process of a show.

2022-08-10So I traveled all the way to NYC to meet a little known star called Radioman, I met him outside the Colbert show and I asked a group of 4 staff members who where stood outside doing absolutely nothing if they one of them would kindly take a photo of me with Radioman they all rudely refused to do the simple me that simple favour. A guess a little decency is lacking in the colbert staff.

2019-09-03If you like the show, seeing it live is wonderful! The theatre is beautiful and getting to be close to the stage when it was being filmed was wonderful. We loved seeing how they do the show and hope to go back again sometime, since we had so much fun. I would recommend maybe not going in the heat of the summer, though, since it was VERY hot waiting outside before we were let into the theatre and that was rough. If you want a good seat, lining up early is a good idea and well worth it. We were very close. It would be neat to sit upstairs sometime, too, since you get to see the full ceiling and dont have the cameras in the way of your view as much. Tons of fun.

2022-06-25It was on ok experience overall. The herding and pushing folks in like sardines was ridiculous. Very nice gentleman in security was the only employee that was friendly the other employees were not friendly at all. Not something I would do again.

2020-01-25Had an amazing time! I applied only the day before online (for one person) and I was able to go immediately. It took about 1,5 hours in total. One guest, one band. You should go here when you are in NYC. You will not regret it! Moreover, the theater is an amazing building. That alone is worth a visit, but the show was wonderful.
