This place has outdoor seating available and we were seated immediately. Dined around 7pm and it was fairly busy, about 75% full. A lot of young kids eating here. Had a table of 6 guys next to us, all in their early 20s, talking and yelling very loudly about if they would rather marry Lady Gaga or Ariana Grande. On the other side of our table had 8 young people also very loud and drinking quite a bit. Back two tables were also filled with large groups of loud kids. All fine and well but just to note this was not the best place for a date night, was very loud and difficult to talk and would be a better option for friends or family meeting for dinner. The food was expensive and not exactly worth it. The clam chowder was good but not great. It did had a lot of clams but several sandy bites. The crab cakes were not good, odd seasonings, and one was burnt on the bottom. The coleslaw was OK but plain, very light vinegar dressing and no carrots. Cold lobster roll was pretty good, lots of lobster but was dry and needed more mayo. French fries were typical frozen crinkle cut. Corn on the cob was overcooked and came with no butter, had to ask for packets. Dessert was very good. Had the frozen key lime and the warm chocolate cake, both were excellent.Service was not great here. Initially was brought the wrong soup. Took the soup back and brought the correct soup and after 2 bites, here is the entrees. The food got cold as we ate our soup. We asked for a dessert menu and 15 minutes later we got it. Took forever for her to take our order and bring the desserts. Waited 40 minutes from the time we told her we wanted dessert till we finally got it. Getting the check was another hassle. I didnt feel like it was busy enough that we should of had to wait so long for service. If youre a young person that likes to drink and order chicken fingers, I think this is your place and youll make lots of new friends. Otherwise, steer clear. There are comparable or better lobster rolls and desserts (the only two redeeming things) at other restaurants.
Not only is this place an iconic establishment but it has one of the best lobster rolls I’ve ever tried. I thought New England was the only place to get a good lobster roll but Lunch is just as equivalent. It beats all the other wannabe establishments in the area. What I found interesting was that they serve their lobster on the side and you make your own sandwich. I thought it was a little weird but no need to fear, they give you a huge portion so there’s left overs. Who doesn’t want extra lobster? HahaAside from the lobster roll, I recommend the clams Casino and corn. Their fried food isn’t the best unless you like bready batter.Overall, this is the only place I eat at when in the area. Not to mention, the service is very friendly and welcoming. All the other places are much more expensive and can’t make a simple lobster roll for their lives.Cheers!PS: It’s dog friendly!
We actually visited this restaurant because we loved the show “The Affair” and thought it would be cool to visit some of the locations that it was filmed. I absolutely loved the crab cake. Very flavorful and not an excessive amount of breading or filler. Staff was friendly and service was quick.
Expensive, food was cold had to bring it back... then the french fries were burnt the service was fine I kind of felt bad for the waitress the crab cake had absolutely no flavor and the hamburger bun that was holding it was hard. Clam strips had decent flavor but they too were burnt. Dark brown coming out of a fryer this time of year thats an excusable. its a shame I guess they just live off their reputation and not their quality its a shame. They spend more time talking about their history and whos eating there then they do taking care of the people that are coming now and paying way too much money for fried food
As the consensus unanimously is, food is stupidly overpriced which is unfortunately normal for a tourist spot. Service is fine and theyre good about gluten free.Reason Im subtracting 2 stars is because I got a takeout steak the second time I came here; for whatever reason they decided to throw a pickle into the takeout container and saturate the steak with pickle juice. Unfortunately pickles happen to be my least favorite food, and there was no mention of pickles being included anywhere.
Decent place for a casual bite to eat. Food is Hamptons priced, and meets the same standard (the food is too pricey for its quality). That said, the food was tasty and the hot lobster roll was good. The staff were friendly enough, but when we asked about a price, they said to scan the QR code to look online... in a restaurant with minimal cell service (again something stupidly standard in the Hamptons).
I consider myself to be pretty picky when it comes to service and overall quality of food when I go out. The lobster roll is one of the few that gets 5-stars all around. After the hostess greeted our party of 7 for lunch we were told the wait was about 10-15 minutes which was far less then I expected. We ordered drinks through their service window while we waited making time fly by.We sat outside in the rocks area were the entire scenery is filled with gorgeous plants and a very unique outdoor design that truly makes your experience feel private from outside of the restaurant. We started off with lobster bisque which was filled with large chunk a of lobster, clam chowder, crispy clam strips and clams on the half shell…..all delicious. What really made me give this restaurant a 5-star review was there menu catered to anyone with food allergies such as our friend who had a serious gluten allergy. Even she was surprised by the attention they put into her meal and honestly the bread was the first roll we tasted that actually had some substance to it unlike many other gluten free breads which I’m sure those familiar understand what I mean! Our server Corey stoped by at the perfect time to check-in on drinks and food. I didn’t have to wait one minute to see we’re our server was, somehow he just knew when someone at our table needed him!For lunch many of us got the famous cold and hot lobster rolls…..just amazing, which is no surprise. They even increased the amount of shrimps served on their cocktail! The seared tuna was cooked perfectly over a salad I ordered with balsamic vinaigrette. Every employee that saw our party walk out smiled and waved, which again is not something you see everyday if you go out to eat as much as I do.Simply put, I’d highly recommend the Lobster Roll. They’ve perfected their business over the years and honestly don’t hVe one recommendation other then to keep doing what your doing. Excited to go back and for new foodies to tryout this gem!- Isabella Sardoni
Im in between 3.5 and 4 stars. The hot lobster rolls were good & the fried clam bellies were very good but... For the money, the portions were a bit small. Ive definitely had better value and better food in the area. Still worth a visit if its on the way for you, I wouldnt go out of my way for this.
The cold lobster roll had too much celery. Maybe I should have ordered the hot one.The Carnation milk-based broth in the New England clam chowder overpowered the freshly-chucked clams. The corn on the cob was soggy and overcooked.I paid $47 including tax for the three plus a glass of club soda. What a waste of money!I should have done a Google search under “Best lobster roll in the Hamptons” before coming here. There are many businesses in the Hamptons that consumers say have “best lobster roll”.A few longtime Hamptons homeowners tell me that locals prefer “The Dock House”in Sag Harbor. Some other Hamptonites tell me that”Bostwick’s Chowder House” in East Hampton has the best lobster rolls in town. I personally buy mine from Stew Leonard’s supermarket in Farmingdale or the local fish store. But the best lobster roll is the one that you can make at home yourself, for far less $$$.
Overall I had a really enjoyable time. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious, although for the prices, you wish that the portions were slightly bigger. But you go to the East End knowing that things will be a bit pricier. If you’re handicapped or have trouble walking it will be a bit tricky with the gravel parking lot and gravel back patio. The bathrooms were small as well.
Very friendly staff. Both the host and our server were great. Nice when accommodating our requests. Would have ranked higher but for $42 I hoped for a bit more lobster on my salad. My husband had the lobster stuffed tomato which he loved. The tomato was fresh and flavorful. Yummy coleslaw. It’s a busy place but we got in pretty quickly. Must go!
Lobster roll was huge chunks of lobster and the best I’ve had!!!! Also tried the fish and chips, super crispy and delicious!I suggest calling ahead to place your pickup order, wait times can be long. They did a great job adapting to current rules and regulations, picking up the order was seamless. Will def make sure this is always part of my Montauk visits!
I never heard of lobster roll before nor have I ever had it before and for my first experience I enjoyed it very much. To see the crowds throughout the day made me want to visit this place even more and when I finished work I made it my duty to visit. They have a lot of options for every category of foods to eat which made it difficult but at the same time it gave me options to choose what I wanted and I chose the lobster roll. The lobster roll was absolutely delicious and very filling. I was impressed for I thought that it wasnt going to fill me up but it did. The staffing was friendly and helpful in picking what I would be interested in and it didnt disappoint. If I ever come back out to Montauk again Ill surely pass by to taste more of what they serve.
Great place! STOP! As you turn the corner it says lunch on the sign but its more dinner options yes pricey but guess where you are the staff is great customer service the food terrific have you tried the puffers we did lived it beautiful atmosphere this is where you want to go when youre out there
A must visit! It’s right on the highway and before you get into town, have to stop in. I’ve only had the lobster roll here but def a must! The service is great, food comes out very quickly and never had any issues with wait (have always gone during the week for lunch). They have an extensive drink and food menu, I’m sure it all tastes great here. There is shaded outdoor seating as well!
Drove about 3 hours to eat here and it did not disappoint. Delicious fresh seafood. Wait time was a bit but sitting at the bar cut it in half. Staff friendly and funny😀The warm lobster roll was the best come with big chunks of lobster meat! The original lobster roll was just as i expected, a lobster salad put on roll. Awesome. While wait they have a separate line to get a drink, cool. Waitress said there was an upstairs also. I am definitely going back! Beautiful town it was located in also
Went at 4:45, and no wait! Got a gluten free lobster roll with fries. All I a dedicated gluten free fryer. My boyfriend got the regular lobster roll with fries. It all came out so fast, the service was great AND most importantly everything was delicious! And absolutely worth the 2 hours it took to drive there. We shared a delicious beautiful chocolate cupcake. I will say it was definitely on the expensive side, but the lobster is so fresh that I am willing to pay for that quality...it was still a bit high. ALL in all a great experience.
Very cool spot. Food was delicious. On the ground floor with the dunes and brush you cannot see the ocean. Drive west a couple minutes and on the streets to the left, go down there and see the ocean. Beautiful beach. We sat at the bar and in so doing, only waited 5 min’s. We were served by Marcela. She was excellent. I got the seafood nachos and the wife got the cold lobster roll. Very delicious s I also peeked over and saw other folks platters and all looked wonderful. The place is hoping. High throughput. They have a separate line just for drinks.
I was very disappointed with this experience. There are many great reviews of this place but unfortunately my experience was not the same. My wife got crab cakes and the portion was very small it looks like it was an appetizer not a dinner. They also werent very good I tasted them myself and Ive had much better. My lobster roll was very good but could have used a touch more Mayo. Our waitress was absolutely terrible. At first she came to the table quickly brought the food, and came back once to see if we needed anything else. Then a large group of 20-somethings arrived in her section and she basically abandoned us. I could not flag her down to get the dessert menu. Then I couldnt get her over to take our dessert order. Between the time we finished our dinners and dessert arrived was over 30 minutes! Then it took another 30 minutes to get our check, and then another 15 or 20 for her to come and take payment! Im sure she thought she was going to get a big tip from that large table of 20-somethings, but in my experience they are not great tippers. She did not get a good tip from me because of the terrible service.
Absolutely outstanding. The setting, the atmosphere. Good table staff and food that was to die for.I loved every moment of it and was disappointed that I had to leave to go home.Cant recommend The Lobster Roll enough.(And yes...the lobster roll itself was superb!)NB, please have cash to tip staff. They take card tips but cash is always more appreciated I think.
I hadn’t been here for 35 years and was looking forward to my old favorites—clam chowder and a clam strip roll. The chowder was good, not great, but good and, sadly, was the highlight of the meal. The clam role was not to be—apparently there’s a clam strip shortage this year. So I opted for their eponymous lobster role. Okay, but I’ve had far better in Maine. The waitress asked if I wanted fries with my lobster roll. I asked if I could substitute onion rings. “No problem” she said. Big mistake. Maybe the worst onion rings ever for a $9.50 up charge. My wife opted for the lobster special. Another big mistake. Do lobsters get tough, stringy and impossible to get out of the shell with age? Whatever, this one was tough, stringy, impossible to get out of its shell and totally devoid of the sweetness that’s found with fresh from the ocean lobsters. The final indignity — towards the end of our meal my nose was assaulted by an odor that I can only describe as “garbage left out in the sun to rot.” Somehow it was a fitting end to a most disappointing meal.
Their namesake lobster roll was just average. Nothing that special to me and the cocktails were not good at all. My daughters fish and chips was good and I did really enjoy the crab cake appetizer. Overall a decent place but nothing I would go out of my way for. Pretty expensive for what it is. That is sort of normal in this area though.
Great seafood place. We always hunt down lobster rolls wherever we travel and this place has superb ones, both hot and cold style. The prices are a little high, its a tourist centric town, but similar to other restaurants in Montauk. We ordered a hot lobster roll with fries (fries costs extra), a cold lobster roll with fries (costs extra), a popcorn shrimp appetizer (they were out of fried clams), 1 Belgium beer and 1 malted milk shake (awesome), and our bill was $91 and change.Everything we ordered was good and tasted fresh and cooked perfectly. Our food came out pretty fast and the staff was nice. All in all a great place to splurge on some seafood and have some cocktails.
I came here with a group of friends for lunch and was excited to see all the options on the menu, including their different sized lobster rolls. The Manhattan clam chowder was amazing, as well as the bisque. The service was also friendly and quick. I ordered the seafood nachos and I personally found the combination a little strange, but would recommend everything else on the menu!
A must stop point to eat when you are visiting The Hamptons, not just because its iconic, but because they are really good. The service was friendly and fast, the dishes were big, and the food was the best, high quality of sea food & definitely the best lobster roll ever!
I’ve been going to “Lunch” aka The Lobster Roll” for a numerous amount of years. I can’t remember anything ever changing. Everything I’ve had has always been super fresh and delicious. A lot of beers on tap and bottle. So many drinks on the menu I can’t count. The atmosphere and the food is a great experience all together. This is the type of place where you don’t look at prices because it’s all worth it and yet not sky rocketed prices.Order what you like and you can’t go wrong. In all my years I’ve never been disappointed.
The service was great and the service was kind and warm. The food was good and came out very fast with no mistakes whatsoever. The only complaint is that the lobster was overpriced and cold. The decor seems seafood restaurant cliche, it could use some differentiation. All in all, quite good.
Incredible atmosphere in garden at the end of the restaurant-- GORGEOUS ivy ceiling and vibrant plant collection looks like something pulled out of Paris-- and the hot Lobster Roll is so good. The best part, by far, is the attitude of the staff. Our server was Amanda and she was so incredibly friendly and upbeat/happy that we felt truly welcome. Overall amazing little place with a comfy atmosphere and hearty food with an incredible house made apple crumble pie.
The vibe at the Lobster Roll is relaxed and very inviting. The workers really seem happy and at home there, which translates to very friendly helpful service. More like they invited you to their home and are welcoming you to see how wonderful it is there. The food was very tasty, cooked just right and serving sizes were fair to generous. It was the perfect end to our trip out east. Wed 100% go back.
Everyone we interacted with was very friendly, but the food was disappointing. The fries were very bland, and I thought both the hot and cold lobster roll were average at best. Clam Bar across the street has a better lobster salad imo. The fried shrimp and fish were great and the sweet potato fries were solid, but overall I dont think the things we got were worth the price.
Delicious fresh lobster rolls. We like ours plain with just butter. Nice drinks and very casual. They are also kid friendly with items like chicken fingers ect. One star off because there was so much mosquitoes when we were there, but maybe it’s just the time of day we went or where we were seated. Over all great food and good staff.
Ive been waiting for a long time to try this place out. Everytime I drive by its sooooo busy that I end up just driving by it. Today I decided to wait... And Im so glad I did! This place served me one of the best lobster rolls Ive ever had. Perhaps even better than that was the service though. My order came out incredibly fast, all the employees were extremely nice and professional and the whole establishment was extremely clean and well kept. If youre looking for a great lobster roll and an equally great restaurant experience, I highly recommend you make the trip to this place.
The Chocolate Obsession desert is AMAZING!!Burgers where good and all and lobsterroll was fine. Bit pricy for what kind of food it was but it was alright. It was very busy but service was good and fast.Sidenote: Toilets are extremely busy due to people from the road stopping to pee.
No just Lobster Roll; great place to stop on your way to Montuak. A family day outing and exploring builds an appetite. Four of us and we had great seating outside in the patio that was semi covered. From the hostess to the server and everyone in between where courteous, friendly, prompted and professional; which made for a great experience. Plenty of parking & clean bathrooms. We had 2 Lobster roll, 1 Fish and Chips and a crab cake appetizer. All of it extremely fresh almost as if it had be just cought out back a cooked up. Yummy! We had local beer. A must do if going to Montuak.
The Lobster Roll is located as a single restaurant, standing alone amidst dune vegetation and found on the side of the Montauk Highway between two beachside communities. It has a gluten free menu that a lot of seafood restaurants of their type dont have. This makes The Lobster Roll a special place to me. The menu had many different types of seafood. One of the selections was a gluten-free lobster roll. It came with coleslaw and french fries, and the GF roll was toasted perfectly. The lobster was presoaked in melted butter and was delicious. Usually, though, the lobster is a bit more difficult to chew, this lobster easily fell apart when biting down.Another interesting addition to the menu was the Montaukila. It was a margarita-like drink that featured a locally created tequila. It was smooth and didnt have that smoky aftertaste that can cause someone to cough. The atmosphere was festive, with a touch of the upscale aesthetic expected of a place near the Hamptons. The cost of a lobster dinner for two and two drinks hovered around $100 before tip.Service was excellent.Foe those interested in supporting business who have a mind for green and sustainable practice, our drinks were straw-free. Plastic serving cups were used for the coleslaw, paper for the fries, and ceramic for everything lobster related. It did not seem like there were solar or wind energy setups anywhere, but the business seemed to be a great place to get some of there power from it. Three stars for their ecoinnovation.
You absolutely cannot go wrong here. Known simply as Lunch to the locals, we went because our friends had seen it while watching a TV series (called The Affair, I think). Fabulously large menu. Everything we saw come out looked superb... Everything! Indoor and outdoor seating options abound, but there may be a wait. If you are waiting, you can literally order drinks at a window on the porch. This is wayyyyyy more than a popular roadside drive-in. Awesome!
Ok so this place stole my heart this year. The food OMG the food is just utterly amazing. The service the friendly staff, cleanliness the atmosphere. This is the type of place where you really beg for summer to last forever. Lobster roll slamming, burgers slamming, tuna and swordfish entree slamming. Gotta go and check this place out. Take a trip to montauk point light house and stop here for lunch it’s literally on the way. You can’t miss this spot.
Retro style lobster shack (1960s) sandwiches, rolls and salads (lobster, tuna, shrimp). Im not a great fan of those and tried the swordfish steak (platter) and it was perfectly well cooked. They also have those old fashioned milkshakes (malted or vanilla) and root beer floats as well. Its also cool because they offer gluten free buns. So, an interesting experience for tourists but get ready to spend at least $100 (for two) for a beach style diner. Theres is also a long line-up of cars along the road and another line-up at the door. Its depressing. But the place is popular and has very good reviews. Staff is welcoming but restrooms are suspiciously dirty and seating on the patio is really uncomfortable.
Absolutely loved this place. I stopped by for lunch with a coworker after a quick job out on the beach. We both had the hot lobster rolls, and i had a side of fries. The price is decent at 29-30, but it is totally worth it. The lobster is so tender and juicy and very fresh. The rolls are soft and hold up just enough. To top it off they give you melted butter to take it over the top.
So GOOD! I went on Memorial Day weekend so the crowds were crazy yet my companion and I got seated almost right away. The staff worked like a well oiled machine - very impressive! I ordered clam chowder and the hot lobster roll. I’m generally never that impressed by lobster (I know, weird) but heirs was delicious!
Been going to Montauk since I was a kid and never stopped here until last year. Love it! Came back again this year and the experience ( service, food and seating) was delightful! I wish I could say the same for several other establishments in the area. By all means make this a place to visit on your trip out there.
Ask themkt price first! 😲 Ive gotten rolls from other places on the island that were just as good and not as costly. For the $35 I paid, a side and drink shouldve come with it. Small serving but very fresh and tasty (very little if any seasoning only mayo and celery). Im from the DMV and it definitely wouldve been better with Old Bay; even a little green onion, salt & pepper.Long line but it moved well.Be careful and watch where youre walking. Parking spaces on the lot may be full but you can park on the road.
An incredible lobster roll (both the classic and the hot). Delicious crab cakes as well, and overall great friendly service. Be prepared to wait during peak season and dinning times, but its worth it. Have really taken on the as seen on The Affair series on Showtime personality.
A very popular roadside seafood place as evidenced by 3 phone lines just to take the order! Highly recommend to order ahead of time. The staff was very friendly considering how busy they are. The lobster roll is not bad yet less memorable among the ones I have tried in this area. The New England clam chowder has clean background thus the clam flavor really stood out. The fruit pie was delicious and really made a sweet ending. The gluten free options was also impressive.
Ive been going to LUNCH my whole life, but have not visited in 8 years until yesterday. Better than I remembered. Top notch lobster rolls, clam chowder, and even the salad was good, which I dont normally expect from a place specializing in roadside lobster rolls. A celebrated classic, and for good reason!
All I have to say is disappointing. Let’s start with the lobster rolls which I expected to be very good and was very disappointed with. The rolls are priced at 29.95 and you would think at that price the roll would either be a big portion or have an amazing taste that would melt in your mouth and it was neither. In addition to that, getting special with fries is an extra 2.75. And the fries and coleslaw (which are included) aren’t bad but they taste like any other generic fast food restaurant I could’ve gone to. The lobster roll itself was not that big and quite small in my opinion. Both the bread and the lobster tasted generic it wasn’t bad however it DEFINITELY not worth the price point. Had the prices been lower, and more reasonable it would’ve made my experience more enjoyable. Oh and don’t get the Mac n cheese because quite frankly it taste like Kraft.
BEST Lobster roll in the East, but bring your money! Quite expensive. Lunch for two without drinks was $66. Alcoholic drinks available but you must drink them while eating on the premises or take them home. No drinking from takeaway containers in the parking lot. The actual Lobster Roll sandwich was superb. Tons of lobster on a brioche roll, so I got what I paid for, plus crinkle cut fries from friendly staff. Also an extensive menu of many other choices. Google them to see if they are open. When Summer ends theyre schedule becomes limited. A treat for sure!
I expected more! The food was mediocre. I ordered the stuffed jumbo shrimp that cost just under $30. I waited 40 minutes for my food. When my plate came out I was disappointed to see 4 pieces of medium sized shrimp. I guess jumbo is relative. The crab stuffing was ok but Ive honestly had better at other less expensive seafood chains. The side of coleslaw was small and not good. That day they also ran out of 2 different menu items. Im pretty sure I wont be going back.
The atmosphere is not the finest, but the food is the best. Whether its seafood or meat, salad or coleslaw, the ingredients are the finest. Numerous celebrities have dined here. The cost is reasonable. I strongly recommend it. Also, I must mention, The Affair, (HBO show) was filmed there.
The food was good but I ordered a hot lobster roll and it was ice cold. The server was an older woman and she was extremely overwhelmed! 20 minutes and 4 requests for my iced tea while all the beer drinkers had their drinks right away. While it was good I think overrated and overpriced for amount of lobster.
Best seafood ever!!!!! 🦀 The puffers are absolutely amazing, as are the stuffed 🍤 shrimp! The lobster bisque is the best Ive ever had! Plus I love this restaurant and I love The Affair on Showtime... If you havent seen it, check it out, The Lobster Roll aka Lunch is part of the Montauk set of the show. 🐙
Amazing restaurant and amazing gluten free selections. They make gluten free chicken fingers for kids and have gluten free lobster rolls! They ask if it’s a preference and allergen. They also have great gluten free beer selections! Staff is so nice. Make sure to put on mosquito spray towards the evening though especially now in summer. Other than that it was a great time. Also bring face masks. It’s required before you enter the outdoor seating area (then you can take it off)
Best lobster roll weve had out East. Service was good and fast. Portions were good. But ladies, no heels. They have loose pebbles as walkway from parking lot to outdoor seating area. Bathroom is old with push down spray handles which causes water to splash all over you and the floor. Yuk!! Need i say more!
This gem of a lunch place on the highway cant be missed for anyone who is passing by or making a special trip. I ordered a lobster roll classic and it was yummmmm.....even the pomegranate margarita was delish. The place is pricey so be prepared. We were a group of 8 adults and gave a hefty bill.
My first visit to The Lobster Roll was more than 25 years ago and it remains as good then as it is now. Truly, this classic road side stand has withstood the tests of time. Do not be distracted by dizzying options and choices (they are all good), but steer straight for the Hot Lobster Roll (some assembly required; market price) which features big chunks of beautifully cooked lobster meat with drawn butter, a warm roll, and coleslaw. Remember to add fries, like everything else, they are awesome, hot and fresh, crispy and delicious. The portion will leave you just stuffed enough. The staff here are delightfully engaging and attentive, happy to see and serve you a great meal. Definitely recommend this to anybody headed to the Hamptons or Montauk. Definitely worth the drive and/or diversion. Just look for their iconic LUNCH sign and come hungry!
Lobstah! That’s what my wife craved so we drove from NYC to get them. She said these were one of her favorite lobster rolls outside of Maine. I personally don’t like lobster as much. So I ordered the fish and chips. The serving size was huge! Talk about bang for your buck. All in all, it was an amazing lunch!
Went with my family for lunch. Really tasty food and friendly staff. Lot was slammed at 230 on a Monday. Everything was fresh and delicious. Margaritas definitely helped wash everything down, recommend the pomegranate. Definitely dulled the ache it left in our wallets, but overall was worth it.
Mixed feelings. Lobster roll and the gluten free bun were good, but the crab cakes had too much filler and was cooked brown. The chowder was a bit too bland for our taste. For $86 before tip (without dessert and wine), I question the value as the meal was average and unremarkable for this places reputation. The even more unpretentious Shinnecock Lobster Factory was around $55 for almost the same orders (corn on the cob, two drinks, crab cake, lobster roll, minus the chowder), and delivered a notch or two above Lobster Roll. Leave it to the underdog to try harder. Now Im curious about Bostwick. Will they underwhelm too? Till the next episode...
What a great little place, absolutely loved the drive there and back, getting away from the city? Well head hear! If you’re one you’re way to Montauk or just having an “Affair” this place is a must. A bit of the pricey side but well worth as the Lobster Rolls are delicious and the cocktails don’t disappoint.
Very popular place with nice outdoor seating area. Most fish dishes are quite pricey, while drinks are ok. Their signature lobster roll, which one of our party had, was the size of about 1/2 hot dog, contained a lot of celery, and was rather bland. Luckily, we ordered an oyster sandwich and the only seasonally available puffer fish and chips (pictured). Both were really nice. The puffer fish platter was generous, the flesh is firm and reminds of monk fish, and was very fresh. The pinkish tartar sauce on the side was really tasty.
Takeout: Im not picky, but I would avoid takeout at all costs. The fried food looked ok, but was unsurprisingly limp and soggy. The tuna steak looked like it was steamed, and tasted steamed. Horrible. The corn was soggy boiled. The lobster roll looked ok. Im sure that place is fine for table service, if you want fried clams or a lobster roll, but I wouldnt order anything else.
After seeing The Lobster Roll on Channel 12 news last week we deciding to give it a try. We were coming back from our yearly Montauk stay which we have been going to for over 30 years. Each year we pasted the Lunch sign but became curios with the Channel 12 recommendation. Well it turned out to be horrific. Our waitress was nasty and inattentive. She had zero manners...NO THANK YOU,PLEASE OR YOUR WELCOME. She actually looked my grandsons girlfriend up and down when she asked for another drink. Keep in mind we were a party of 9 with 2 very well behaved 4yr olds. Maybe because gratuities were included she didnt care how she treated us. I must say the food was very good but the service was terrible. I am extremely disappointed and will Not be recommending The Lobster Roll to any of my family or friends .
We had lunch at Lobster Roll on their third day after reopening from Long Islands lockdown. Perfect weather, great service, excellent food (and plenty of lobster in the hot lobster roll). Nicole, our server, recommended the strawberry rhubarb pie, a special, which was warm and tart and a fine finish to our meal.
Was so looking forward to getting a hot lobster roll for take out but was told they only do the classic cold rolls for take out because there is too much demand for hot rolls inside and that I could eat one if I sat at a table. Was a little bummed since its my go-to spot every time I come out here. This was the first time they told me this but the cold roll was really good anyway. 4 stars instead of 5 because they wouldn’t give me what i wanted.
When in the Hamptons you just have to try this place. They serve a 100% pure, cold-water lobster meat mixed with that delightful really rich mayonnaise. It’s served cold on a hot toasted split-top bun, and the greatest homemade creamy coleslaw. It doesn’t get better than this people.
Would have done 4 stars but they were open during the onset of a hurricane with decent food. For as busy as they were the speed with which we were served was impressive. Hot lobster roll was enough meat for two sandwiches. Lobster bisque was a tad bland but still good. Clams casino was a very light portion but absolute fire.
My experience here as a woman of color with my black husband was disappointing, yet, not surprising since we were the only people of color within this vicinity. It was my first time visiting this restaurant, drove 2 hours from the city and decided to stop here to eat. As soon as we pulled into the parking lot, we were waiting to park since all the spots were taken. While pulled over in a corner waiting (like other cars) for no longer than 2 minutes, one of the male workers decided to aggressively tell me to move my car immediately and that I cant stay here. Mind you, this is before we even ordered food, and he didnt approach any other vehicle in the manner that he did mine. We got a parking spot and proceeded to order. Spending almost $200 for the 2 of us. As soon as I placed the order, I noticed they have outdoor seating so I went to ask if we can sit down to eat instead of having to sit in the car that we just drove in for 2 hours to eat. The lady at the seating area declined without even ATTEMPTING to help, saying the only way we can sit down to eat is if we cancel the order I placed at the takeout counter and re-order the exact same food after sitting down. Not sure why if its coming from the same kitchen and my credit card was already charged. In the middle of this pandemic, you mean to tell me that you couldnt at least TRY to help? I wasnt going to cancel a $200 order and then reorder it again. There was no one else waiting to be seated. She could have seated us. Finally our food was ready at the takeout counter and the same lady from the seating area came over to say You saved yourself about an hour by doing this to which I replied, I just wanted to sit down and eat with my husband. We drove for 2 hours from New York city to get here and would rather not sit in our cars to eat. And her response was to turn around and walk away. Icing on the already nasty cake. From the moment we pulled into the parking lot of this place we were not met with any hospitality. My fellow black and brown folks, it is clear that we are NOT wanted here. Take your hard earned money elsewhere!
We had read so many exemplory reviews that we felt it as worth a trip to try Lunch also known as The Lobster Roll for ourselves. All I can say is what were these people used to. The food, if you dare call it that, which we received was so far from what we expected that I thought .. perhaps we were at the wrong place. The fried clam strips were indeed, fried, but you had to pull them apart to search for any clam meat. It was all breading. The French fries that came with them were more like steamed potato. Limp and tasteless. The over priced lobster rolls had so little lobster for the price and it wasnt even whole lobster meat but shredded scraps. The steamed soft shell clams were miniscule and very sandy. The food was bad enough ... the service was worse. It took over 30 minutes for our steamers to arrive at our table. The manager was only slightly apologetic when she admitted that they only take about 6 minutes to prepare. My beer arrived to the table only cool, not cold.To top it off, they werent even busy when we were there. If I say this place SUCKS, I would be paying them a complement.Save your money and have a decent meal in another establishment
Have been going here and food has always been good. During COVID we went twice for pickup, service was fast the first time but was unacceptable the second time. I placed the order and within 10 minutes i was standing there. I was waiting there for probably 45 minutes so the food took near an hour. I know they were busy, but that is unacceptable especially when there was no wait to speak with someone on the phone to place the order and i wasn’t told how long the food would take. Anyway the food is very good, but very expensive, and they have very nice and helping staff
Friendly staff and wait wasnt long even though it was crowded. Lobster bisque and New England clam chowder are both awesome. Im not a lobster person but others in our group said the hot lobster roll was great, just a bun, lobster and butter. Fish and chips were very good. Fish had a nice flavor (often find fish and chips to under seasoned and bland, but not here).
We had the best sever ever 💗❤️ Her name is Amenda and the food was so great and the staff was very nice and helpful I will always remember her and you all ❤️💕 I am from Jacksonville beach Florida and I wish we had more compassionate people here!! Thank you all for this beautiful experience 💗

2021-11-13Visited this place in summer as a tourist attraction after watching The Affair tv show. Still preserving the same setup inside and outside giving the great feel of living in the show and actors. Tried their famous lobster roll and it’s delicious. Also tried the salad with veggie patty and it’s super rich with pistachios, cranberries and lot of veggies. Higher on the price range and there is long wait in the peak season but worth the wait.

2022-06-29I got a burger & fries. Burger was pretty bland & the bun was cold. For a burger fries & draft beer I paid $24 so not bad prices at all. Very cute restaurant. Good vibes and ambiance. Great service. Plenty of paeking. I will definitely return.

2021-08-08Looking for that quintessential I am on vacation meal? Lobsters, sweet corn, clams? It just did not get any better than coming to the Lobster Roll, an icon welcoming your arrival to Montauk. Menu choices are everything seafood plus a few grilled types of meat for land lovers. Additionally, they have express orders for quartz of soups and takeout too. And they have many healthy salads and add ons too. For those concerned about health issues, they sanitize, wear masks, and appear exceptional in paying attention. They also have both indoor and covered outdoor seating. And if you opt for the Clams Casino, save the dish and pour the bacon flavors garlic butter over your sweet corn and lobster or baked potato. My superb waitress tipped me off. The taste was just out of this world! Enjoy!

2021-11-23I wish I’d taken pics of my food, but I was so excited to actually eat something on vacation- aside from pizza 🍕!! (Though Mystic Pizza? I’d have eaten that EVERY DAY… but I digress!)Anyhoo, vacations are not usually something that involve me being able to eat very much, as I’m ALLERGIC TO FISH AND SHELLFISH 🦐!! This was something that developed in my early 30’s, so unfortunately for me, I’d known seafood intimately, and we had a wonderful relationship. 😍 Imagine my surprise when I go to a seafood restaurant and blow up like, well, you get it.Anyway, I was excited for my husband to eat at The Lobster Roll, as we’d been fans of The Affair!! (At least the first 4 seasons, but don’t get me started there…) Anyway, we went after Labor Day in late September! The weather couldn’t have been any more beautiful. We had a 45 minute wait that was actually more like 20 minutes. The server was excellent and super sweet. She came over to get our orders, and I told her “I’ll just have a Diet Coke— I can’t eat at seafood restaurants because of possible cross contamination, as Im allergic.” It’s something I’m used to saying, and I’ll usually try a dessert if I feel safe, or maybe some crackers. Well… you cannot imagine the excitement I felt when the server told me they had a gluten free fryer!!! So that means that I could eat some chicken tenders as well as ACTUAL FRENCH FRIES!! (Most places fry their fish with EVERYTHING… it’s so depressing. Im lookin’ at you, Cheesecake Factory and every Mexican/Chinese restaurant..ever. 😭😭😭😭 I MISS IT SO MUCH!!) so the designated GF fryer could be used for my fries, and I could eat GF chicken tenders! My husband ordered a LR, of course, and he loved his. For the first time since being diagnosed, I was able to comfortably eat something fried, and it’s couldn’t have been better!!! I asked for ranch, and it was def homemade, which makes life SO MUCH BETTER. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I even loved the GF chicken tenders!! I’m obv chatty, but this review is prolly the longest I’ve ever written…sorry for being long-winded, I just can’t say enough good things!! We wanted to get something like “Cherry’s Pies” when we left, but we settled on an Oreo (cookies & cream?) cupcake, which was huge and delicious 🤤. My husband has a beer, so all in all, I think our bill was $60, so $75 after tip.) That’s expensive where we come from, but if we lived near them, we’d be eating there weekly. Thank you so much Lobster Roll… you’ve officially made this girl the happiest I’ve been at a restaurant on vacay (and even home!) in 8ish years. I love you forever. ♥️♥️♥️If you’re planning on taking a trip, make SURE you go to TLR. They are the BEST.

2022-02-26We tried this restaurant on our way to Montauk and believe me it is a MUST to stop for a lobster bisque. The service is great, the ambience is also amazing: it is always packed with people and staff. We took our baby with a stroller and there was room enough around the table.Loved the lobster roll, it has plenty of meat.We tried the nachos...not so goodand the key lime pie, you must try them. The key lime pie has been on their menu for many years and they claim to be the best!

2021-09-23Unpretentious, however, iconic place in the Hamptons! Great to stop for a lunch on your way to Montauk. Very friendly and supportive staff. Good food: We had the Lobster Roll as a bowl (yummie!) and the Sword fish steak from grill – solid quality! They know definitely what they do. Nice American Diner ambience with a very little splash of a French vibe. Enjoyed sitting outdoors.

2021-06-19No trip to Montauk is complete without visiting this place! Lobster Roll is a staple whenever I visit and everything about the place makes the experience amazing. It goes without saying that you need to order the classic lobster roll (hot or cold, both are really good) and try it for yourself. The place is always pretty busy so try to get there earlier if you have a larger group. They also have lots of seating both indoors and outdoors depending on the weather and mood you are in. Their service is pretty quick and the food is really tasty and makes you know that you are really in a coastal town. Definitely check this place out if you are in town.

2021-10-04It was off season so luckily it wasnt too crowded when we went, but service was good and prompt. The lobster bisque was delicious, up there with some of the best I have had. The lobster roll was also great, they definitely give you a healthy portion of lobster per serving.Overall it was a pleasant experience and I would definitely go back again.
