I really cant say enough great things about this Hostel. Great location in LIC, great vibes with fellow Locals from all around the world, superb and extremely attentive staff/housekeeping that are willing to go above and beyond to accommodate its guests. The Owner-Ms Lee-is truly a gem. Over the past year, she has assisted me tremendously during my training in the area, which began promptly at 6am- Monday through Friday. There was no way I could have commuted from my location in LI at such an ungodly hour, and she accommodated me with lodging for my duration right until the end, for which I am forever grateful. Whether its a longer stay such as mine was, or an overnight business trip, The Local will definitely welcome you and make sure you feel right at home. Thanks again to all my wonderful friends at the Local!
My friend and I stayed here as a first time to NYC and it was great! We had a private room and bathroom and it was no problem at all. The room was more spacious than expected and although the bathroom was tiny, it worked great for us! Great community, very nice staff, safe area, about a 8-10 minute walk to the subway. Would recommend for anyone looking for a cheap place to stay near the city!!
I wish I could stay longer! Even though the price is cheap, staff, customers, and hotel quality are at the top level. I have spent a lovely Christmas watching the new Matrix movie with the rest of the guests and eating free popcorn! Didnt try the bar and rooftop but it looked just perfect for socializing! The rooms are also REALLY clean, I cant be more satisfied. Thanks for everything guys!
I’m currently staying at the Local NY through Monday (11/29) and I have to say I’m disappointed in the service. Yes, this is a hostel and yes, the price is very affordable, but there’s a minimum to what guests should expect when staying anywhere. These things are cleanliness and maintenance of property to very minimal standards. Keep reading if interested in details but short version is: stay here for the price and location but not for cleanliness, maintenance, nor quality customer service.Long version: we arrived Friday (11/26) and reserved a room of four for our party. While checkin time is 3 pm, we showed up at 5 pm. We were assigned a room and when we went to the room there was someone in the room and the beds were not made nor was the room clean. We went downstairs let them know what happened. We were reassigned to another room. This other room had not been cleaned so we waited - let’s not even get into the attitude we got from the woman who was there to get us set up. After getting settled in the room, we noticed the toilets nor the shower had been clean. We went downstairs and asked them to take care of the issue. Additionally we noticed that the latch to close the window was missing - therefore we have a window that opens randomly in the middle of the night. Despite multiple discussions with the front office staff, nothing.Short of a sudden change of service, we won’t return and recommend that you think about the downsides before booking here.Update: we were issued a refund from the Local NY and the window latch was fixed for our last night. We appreciate managements responsiveness and hope our feedback helps with future operations/management.
So this is my third time staying here and the Local NY and the wifi isnt that great “especially in the room where I have more private and where it’s quiet” but I am not able to complete my online meetings or business meetings due to the wi-fi not being as stable in the rooms. But I do and can be recalled there having routers in the room in the summertime and now they do not have them in the rooms. I had to take a visit to the lobby / Bar and the wifi works better there but is too noisy in my optional.Great news: I am so happy that they fired/laid off the old staff because they were so rude and disrespectful to guests “oh my panda”.Another odd thing is, isn’t everyone that works at the hostel here are aware of the check-in process? The reason why I say that is because I’m been asked to show my CDC card at the bar when I’m a guest here and have already shown this more than twice. My room 214 sink is not ideal either, its clogged. Water drains slow. The rooms I do enjoy the space in the 4 Dorms but how the kitchen isnt always clean due to the guest being lazy there are signs asking guests to keep the kitchen clean but they do not. When I wanted to use something it was either used or a good amount of dirty dishes. Guest that has been there for a long time I see should have already got this memo. REALLY. Keep this place clean like it’s house home but it is your home for right now isn’t it? So why not respect the house rules and stop being lazy? I am talking about the folks that have been staying here since the pandemic and he and she know who I am talking about.Didnt realize that you can stay here as long as you want? Whats new for me because I used to work for HIUSA and we only had 21 days in the winter and 14 days in the summer. I also do not like to be told while using the kitchen some rules that dont exist by the guests. I had to ask the staff here in LocalNY if they were staff or volunteers. That answer was NO.
I stayed at the local for one night. The staff seemed friendly. The location is ok - seems like it is in a factories area with mainly car shops and similar ones right next to it. If you walk about 4-5 blocks, then theres residential area with restaurants and grocery stores. The room itself is quite small, almost feel like the cells you see in a jail on TV. The 4 beds room has 2 bunk beds, each comes with a on-floor cardboard to put in your luggage (no lock provided, so you need to bring you own lock). Theres a window but nothing much to see from the inside. The room had only one chair (for 4 people??). The bathroom is very small with separate toilet and shower. Overall, I dont think I will come back because its not worth the price. For the cost of $70 per night (its advertised as 50-something, but thats before they charge all the sate and city taxes), Im sure one can find somewhere better to stay.
Would give a better review but they had me in a 4-bed room that someone took over for them self and had been squatting in since the pandemic started (he said they wouldnt take his money anymore?) He acted like it was his apartment and made his own rules for the room even if they didnt align with that of the hostel. Thankfully he was a nice guy overall but they surely put me in a weird situation.
If you like the hostel experience, The Local is a great choice. Prices are very fair, and the place itself is very nice with guest amenities. They also have more traditional rooms if youre traveling as a couple. They also have locked boxes in the rooms for you to stow any valuables.Very close to the trains, just a short trip over to Manhattan. The Local was everything I wanted out of an affordable hostel for solo travel - I stayed there for both my weekend trips to NYC!
I love the location of the this hostel, in Long Island City, Queens. 7 or 8 minute walk from bars and restaurants, 15 minute train ride from Manhattan. The staff is really friendly, the lobby area is modern and clean with a nice bar. They have a good kitchen area and laundry room.Affordable. The rooms are standard, but its what I expect from a hostel.Ive stayed at hostels often in different cities and this is by far one of the nicest ones. I will stay here again!
The Local is conveniently located to several subways lines, which makes for an easy commute to Manhattan and Brooklyn. The place is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. There’s a cafe/bar located in the lobby, which is a great place to read and work. I would def recommend to anyone visiting the city for work. Also, Matt, the manager, is really plugged into the local food scene - he recommended some nearby restaurants and breweries that didn’t disappoint.
Pricey for area in need of upkeep. Rooms cute not large. Carpet worn out in hall ways. floor board in rooms.. coming up looks like water . has lockers for stuff falling off and broken. mixed up. Has kitchen not a big cook but seem need cleaning.. u have to pay for coffee. nothing complimentary. also dont lose mask u must pay two dollars or go to subway to get one free. Area pretty cool artsy funky industrial. Has computers that dont work all time. i had laptop.. so i was ok. not to up keep on cleaning areas all time even in covid.. add on about 11 dollars in tax to the listed price by nyc taxes for dont know what.. staff ok seem to pretend being real... has good bar if your into drinking no alcohol outside to bring in to encourage use of bar.. some entertainment .. over all could use a maintenance up date . bed were comfy though.. tv and music.. there for business and other..
Amazing place and surprisingly inexpensive for the location. My boyfriend and I had such an amazing experience here. We were provided excellent service from Matt and the other workers. The room was also great for the price. Very hip and modern and very artistic. We looooved the set up of the place and the warm hospitality. It was also located very close to the city and there are a lot of neighboring shop, stores, cafes, etc.We will definitely be staying here again.
In my two nights at The Local I became very appreciative of what the place is all about. Unlike any regular hotel experience, there is a welcoming and homey energy that is clear from the start. Everyone is there to make sure you feel welcomed and at home during your stay and it shows! Great and very unique place to stay in NYC on a budget.
Very rude front desk workers. i was simply walking with my sisters luggage towards her room and hardly got past the front desk---i didnt even intend to go with her much further---when i was snapped at for doing so as a nonguest. clean, home-y feeling to the living + common spaces but the cost of staying here can hardly be justified given every room, including the private rooms, are simply filled with bunk beds.
A Safe HavenDuring the height of a global pandemic I was displace from my apartment due to unsanitary conditions. I struggled to find a place that would be affordable, clean and welcoming (considering all that has been taking place in our world). I stumbled upon The Local in Long Island City and I must say this place was truly a blessing during one of my lowest moments. The place was immaculate, the staff, extremely kind (shout out to Matt!) and the room was cozy (thankfully, I was able to room by myself). Definitely, a place i would recommend to anyone and certainly would stay again.Thank you to The Local!
Poor internet, especially in the room. There was no ventilation in the shared bathroom. The key card system wasn’t working, and there was no compensation of any kind for the inconvenience. It’s a large building and a nice space, but this place needs better management.
Always great . seems like alot of changes in staff. stayed at other hostels. but beds are not as comfortable. although rooms are not huge . they are thought about. needs some upkeep in kitchen. clean fridge out. people dont like to do dishes to much in hostels . seems like a thing. lic cool place to stay.
Terrible help at the desk. I stood in line at 3 p.m. when it was time to check-in. I was given number two as a place in line. Then, the girl at the desk called someone else over before me. And then number three was called and they skipped me all together. Terrible customer service. Use deli tickets if needed, but people need proof (physically) of being in a theoretical line.No one should be yelling out your policies to people in one clump like we are hurd of sheep.Well that whole thing was truly number two. Thats all I can say. Room 217 seems comfortable. Small shower. I was given top bunk. 4 men in one room... just making sure everyone is aware of this. Was on the rooftop deck and then was told that there was a private event and we had to leave. I think the event ends around 9:00pm. My hope is to enjoy a bit of this adventure.** Bartender (skinny, tall female) has turned everything around. Once I ordered one drink, she knew what I wanted. I want to say that her smile and good personality turned my mind about this place. 4-stars after the entire stay.
One of the best hostels Ive stayed in. The whole place was clean and well maintained. Great kitchen with dishwashers, WiFi throughout was working the whole time we were there, nice bar and lounge areas, free use of desktop computers. Room was clean and the beds were comfortable with a private shower and toilet for the room. Clean sheets and towels provided free of charge. Big lockable storage for your bags and they provided locks to use for free. Washing machines and dryer were $2.50 each, laundry detergent $1.50. Hostel was close to the subway station with easy and frequent services into Manhattan.
Fantastic Hostel! Nice and clean. Slept in a four bed room with its own bathroom and toilet, both of which were kept clean by regular room service. Air conditioning which was great during the summer but also a little loud, but you can sleep though it. Lovely bar downstairs, with areas to chill out and even charge your phone or laptop whilst doing so. A vending machine is available along with a kitchen and fridges if you want to cook your own food. An ATM is available, which does charge for withdrawals. Staff are very helpful and friendly, allowing you to store your bags on your last day if needed! The rooftop terrace is quite nice in summer. You get a nice view of the sunset and midtown and theres plenty of chairs to relax on.I would certainly stay here again!I also believe double rooms are available if youre a couple.
Eventhough we had an issue checking in and give the place a try ( the issue was from our end ).I would definitely recommend this place, a great location, the place was so clean, an amazing respectful staff with a very good communications and so much efforts made for everyone.A BIG THANK YOU to the understanding, helpful and friendly manager and the amazing receptionist.
Where do I begin this will be very long.. I have been there since the beginning of the pandemic and had my final day there today, I was grateful cause I was in-between Apts and and it was emergency housing when I needed it and at the time was affordable. As time went on there was a group of us there who felt like a small family since the beginning even some of the staff. I know I got annoying at times but yes. As the pandemic ended and things were slowly shifting back to normal I understand they lost money and needed to make it up, but the long term crew that was there was not getting treated Fairley. There was redicuals taxes that I never got a hotels, as well as upping the weekly price too 391 per week for a 6 bed dorm. Lee is a amazing person but i just felt like I got thrown out as the tourist kept coming back. They kept stuffing the rooms and not caring for anyones space at all especially the ones who have been there since the start of the pandemic. Also even after properly labeling food and storing it people still took it and never got re inbursed. At the end it was great for a emergency but its not what it was in the beggining
Édit: Customer service reached out to me and was willing to work with me so I would get my refund!Made a reservation through Airbnb without knowing this was a hotel. When I got there, the receptionist wouldn’t let me check in even tho I had a reservation and paid already. When I ask for a refund then, she told me to do it on my own. I told her that I wouldn’t be able to get a full refund and she had to do it! She didn’t care! I asked her if I could sit and contact customer service, she pointed me the exit! That’s not how you treat customers!
I was moving out of nyc and needed a place to stay to wrap up my loose ends. The location of the local is great, it’s close to a few subway lines and gantry state park. It was nice to have a kitchen and laundry room available. It’s a cool modified space with a beautiful roof view, but there’s no elevator up to the rooms. A few minor things, like my comforter zipper was broken and stained with washed out makeup when i arrived and my windows leaked when it rained. The staff was lovely, housekeeping was kind and gave me extra towels. Would stay again.
The good: Location is incredible. The value relative to location is amazing. Felt safe. The bad: shared bathrooms were super dirty. Toilet clogged the full two days I was there. Blood on a toilet seat. Showers were dirty enough that I didn’t want to use them although my buddy went in...but he’s weird. :). Also mattresses sucked. All in all...if you’re trying to do it on a budget and you’re going to be out and about this place will be fine. And I would stay here again, but there are some sanitation issues
Wow what a great place - greeted by friendly staff when I arrived. Hostel had a nice vibe. Lots of different places to sit and relax. Huge kitchen and space to sit and eat your food too.Rooms use a RFID key. There is a storage box under your bed that you can lock. Towels and locks provided which was nice. Beds also have a light and two power points.Air conditioner at night wold go on and off every so often which could be a bit distracting but was ok.In the rooms there are separate doors for shower and and toilet and the sink was in the room so that was nice. Also another set of toilets and showers down the hall.Lots of events happening during the week, so if you got nothing planned there’s something to do. Perfect if your traveling alone.Everything super clean. 👌🧼 Will be back, loved this place. 😎🇺🇸
First time visiting New York. Staff were very helpful and courteous the entire time. Bar tenders were social as well. Place has a decent bar, lounges, patio on roof and computers with free internet access. Rooms and washrooms are kept relatively clean, but with so many travelers coming and going, things can get messy quickly. Lots of young adults hang out in the lounges, but I felt that not too many people were talking to each other. Nevertheless, I met some awesome people here! Location is in a decent place and very close to subway to Manhattan! I recommend you stay here!
Highly recommend for traveling in NYC with limit budget. The place is cool, clean and comfortable. Nice front desk staffs. Bar at the lobby was awesome. People nice and enjoyable.Lastly, I forgot my ID card on the front desk on the day I was leaving NY, and I realized when I was in a security check at the airport (luckily I have passport). When I email them, they were very responsive and helpful to return my lost item. Really appreciate!! Give 10 stars!!
Lovely hostel. Clean. Some rooms are more spacious than others, so try to ask for a big one if they have space.. they have movie nights, and suggested activities to do everyday.. the neighborhood is not that walk-friendly at night, but it’s still kinda close to everything.. overall, I would recommend it and stay there again :)The staff are also friendly, and they have coffee and pastries in the morning which was nice :)
The service was really amazing, the staff friendly and helpful.Towels and bedsheets are provided, the community kitchen fits to make a simple meal or sandwich, the hangout area is fine, there are city recommendations, an rooftop and the location is very close to the city with many subway stops close and running all night and through weekends.Very clean! The only things that you need to be aware of are: there is no space at all to put your stuff except in your storage box, not even close to the sink at next to your bed. There is only a single hook for your towel and jacket, which is manageable but inconvenient. And in winter (probably similar in summer with ac) the heating is an external appliance which is very loud and which blows air into the room. It worked well and kept the room warm but it was very loud and seemed quite cheap and old. In the end, this is the best it gets for the money! The staff was friendly and trustworthy, the area seemed safe and calm to me and the other guests were normal young people too :)
We booked for 3 nights in a dorm for four (we were 2). Staff was nice from the beginning till the end of our trip, always available to help and answer questions. Dorms were clean. Shower/toilet in the dorm were small, but functionnal. The bar located in the hostel had a cool vibe and had good draft beers. View from the rooftop was amazing.I highly recommend the Local.
The Local is pretty good. It has a bar which offers coffee, tea and other drinks. It has several expansive public rooms. There is a kitchen with a shared fridge. It also has a rooftop deck which is very nice. You can get some really nice views at night. As for the rooms, they are small but contain a shower, sink and toilet in separate rooms. There is a door you can close that separates the shared bedroom with the shared bathroom. Overall, I think this is a good place to stay if youre looking for budget accommodations in New York.
Dont judge a book by its cover as they say. If you are arriving at this hostel after sunset, then you may find the street outside to be a little desolated. However, things change as soon as you step inside the main door. The checkin staff was courteous, knowledgeable and offered a free drink coupon. Bunk beds were clean and you get a feeling that entire setup is run efficiently. The only downside I could notice was spillage of water right outside the shower curtain. Overall, I got a feeling that this hostel that is run efficiently and is surely worth a stay for a few days.
Nice and cozy bar on the ground floor of a hostel. Not too many people know about this spot, so its usual pleasantly quiet, though not empty. Ive never had to wait to order a drink here. It has a bright, somewhat upscale but casual and friendly vibe. One of my favorites in the area.
I stayed for two nights. It was an awesome hostel. Cafe/bar was nice to have. Ended up having stopped at the cafe/bar once or twice a day. Check in was easy and they explained everything. The room was shared between four of us, not knowing the other 2 we stayed with. Polite room mates, luckily. Only issue sharing rooms is the temperature setting. Bathrooms in the room are fine, very tight. Shared bathroom is.. umm, a bit gross, but still fine for a hostel. Staff was great all around. Easy location to get anywhere. I would definitely go back.
The hotel staff are positive with a great attitude. Even though you self check in the hotel has employees steps away if you need assistance. The public area serves coffee and tea all day. It has a great vibe. They have a pool table for guests. The rooms are a bit small but have a great energy. This might sound weird but it’s a cocoon feeling! Very modern but soft to the eye! The roof top bar is a happening! People come from all over to grab a drink and hang out!. The location is 3 blocks from the famous Katz deli and a few blocks from the subway. The price was fair $350 ish for NYC. A++
Amazing staff and an amazing bar.My coworkers and I frequent the bar and we live it here. Matt our favorite barista makes us feel like family and always gives us reasons to keep coming back. What you will like is the diverse crowd, the amazing space, ambiance and the attached hostile that is a great place to crash. The only downside is the bar only offers snacks if youre hungry.Simply put, go and have a great time
Spent there a week and I cant recommend it enough. Beds are cosy, cleanliness is top notch. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Food served at the bar is tasty. They do excellent latte. I really enjoyed local performances. Theres also a roof terrace with an absolutely gorgeous NYC skyline. Thanks guys for having me. Hope to visit you soon.
The Local was highly recommended and its affordable, so I decided to give it a try instead of going to a hotel or Airbnb. Never. Again.Several of the rooms had groups that were partying. Thank goodness I wasnt directly next to any of these rooms or I wouldnt have gotten any sleep. Soundproofing is almost non-existent. The bathroom smells bad, probably because of the lack of ventilation. There are some interesting characters around. I also got a room with stains on the walls, sheets, and towels. The cafe had some old muffins for one of the days that I was there and it wasnt open for most of my stay. The bar makes a small selection of drinks. The hostel is also in an industrial area. That meant no walking around at night and not much to do in the immediate area. At least the subway was a block away. One or two of the employees were cool.Spend the money on an Airbnb or a hotel.
I was asked to pay an addition fee of about 45% upon my arrival. I was told this was because I was coming in from a different state. I have no issues with this, however, I should have be notified before my arrival to make adequate plans. Also, they should not have accepted payments for a service they knew I would not be able to access without making an additional fee. When I request a refund, I was told that will not be possible. I would leave a zero star rating if I could. Horrible experience!
I’ve never been treated so badly by management as I was at this hostel. The lady at the front desk was very rude to me. I was sent a long email with procedures upon arrival, and forgot to go through with all the steps. As a result, she attempted to forcefully upgrade my room and charge me more than double what I had already confirmed because of “the global pandemic”. I was not notified of any of these extra procedures and she insisted that it’s my fault because I need to “do my research”. There was a drunk guy holding a four loko that kept following me around, I would’ve hated to share a room with him. Terrible experience here that really left a sour taste in my mouth.
I really wish I booked The Local NYC for my entire stay. It’s a cool, fun and vibrant hostel. There’s a bar area to relax and socialize, there’s a designated reading area and access to computers and printing, a roof top with a really nice view and very clean rooms. The hostel is located from a 6 minute walk to the train station and is about twenty minutes or less by train to Manhattan and other areas. There’s also a couple cafes nearby. My only grievance is, if you’re like me and you packed heavy be prepared to haul your heavy load up a few flights of stairs. There’s no elevator. The staff is polite.
This is a review of the downstairs bar, not the rooms/hotel service. Very inviting, casual, friendly place. Youll have a great time here, but there isnt a huge selection of alcohol. They serve local beers, staples, and a very basic assortment of liquors/wines. This is a bar connected to a hostel, so there are always new, friendly faces around. Check it out.
For $45 US a night, this place is an incredible deal. The rooms and furnishings are modern, the design of the room makes it easy to visit the bathroom at night without waking up your bunk mates. The service is efficient, if not too friendly, but then, its NYC. The walls are pretty thin and the bunk beds squeak a lot when you get in and out of then. The bar is good fun.
Local NYC is a great hostel to stay for its price range. They have a nice kitchen, 24 hour rooftop patio, and a lovely common space/bar on the ground level. The rooms are clean, but a little small, especially the bathroom area. But overall, it is a nice place to stay for a visit to NYC.
Great hostel! Rooms are large enough and staff are helpful. The evenings (particularly on the weekends) have a good atmosphere and a bar... what more do you need?Theres also a wicked diner round the corner which serves up a smashing breakfast!Only negative... you cant drink on the terrace..
I made a reservation for 3 nights because I had read this hostel was ideal for young professionals. I was staying at a conference so tried to get some early sleep but was kept up until about 11:30pm with loud neighbors as the walls were very thin. I did not complain but did let staff know the next day and that I’d be finding another place to stay. Instead of refunding me for the 2 nights I did not stay I was charged for them and told there is a no refund policy. When I emailed the manager to dispute this he never wrote back to me. It’s bad form to charge for unused services.
Ive stayed here 3 times and I have yet to have a bad experience. The rooms Ive been in have been the 4 bed male. The first floor runs a nice coffee bar by day and decent bar at night. The roof is great for lounging. Itd be nice if you could drink up there but they say its a legal thing so whatever. Would recommend for anyone looking for a cheap place to stay.
Nice hostel, staff varied in helpfulness, that’s the NYC way, the most expensive hostel I’ve ever stayed in the world. Had to negotiate for a refund after the bathroom flooded in the room at night. No lift so not suited for disabilities or heavy luggage. No blinds in the rooms so bring sleep mask as the lights are bright.
Bar Review: ground floor entrance area to the hotel. Its open and spacious with relaxed seating and an industrial, stripped-back look. There are 4 or 5 beers on tap and canned beers available. Its a nice place to chill after work despite the ebb and flow of hotel guests checking in or leaving.
I stayed here from Nov 1 to Nov 9 2017. This was my first time staying at a hostel when Im traveling, and I had a really great experience. The place is clean (room, bathroom, lobby, kitchen). The service was amazing and I felt very welcomed. I want to give a shout out to Dave who at the time works here. They have lots of activities going on during the evenings. There is a cafe/bar. They provide kitchen utensils so you can cook, and fridges so you can store your food. The hostel is about 5 to 10 minutes walking distance from the E, 7, and F train, among others. For those of you who have never stayed at a hostel, I highly recommend it. I met a lot of amazing people from around the world here: UK, Finland, and Jordan to name a few.
The Local NYC is one of the best managed hostels Ive stayed at. The staff are warm and friendly, and very helpful for anything a traveler would need. The bar and Cafe has a great selection of craft beers at traveler friendly prices. The rooms were clean an modern. I would definitely stay here again or recommend it to a friend.
It was a nice spot to stay for a weekend but probably wouldn’t be comfortable for much longer. The bar/cafe downstairs was great and very trendy. There were always lots of interesting people to talk to. I do wish that the heater had been quieter because it was an actively annoying, very loud rattle all night.
Fantastic hostel. Well priced, staff are friendly. Clean and modern. $5 for a pint of lager. Close to tube stations and supermarkets and local bars. Great views of the new york skyline from the roof also. Highly recommended for lone travellers on a budget but want comfort
Amazing place to stay with great connections to Manhattan. Roof top view is a must and a great place to relax after a day out! Staff a friendly and very helpful, dorms are nice and you have a large lockbox for each bed! (Can get lock and key from front desk) would highly recommend to anyone
Nite, modern and spacious (something thats rare to find in NYC). Staff is incredibly professional and at the time very friendly. The hostel is always very clean, and the bar inside is a nice to have amenities. Theres a big space to share with other people and to work. Definitely would go back!Just a couple of blocks away from the subway that will take you to Manhattan, Chelsea and financial district. The only downside of the hostel is that there are not that many shops near by.
Omg just no .. there is way better than this one ..So dirty and smell really bad insideAlso they charged me like twice the real price I don’t know why they add lot of taxes and other stuff when you have to pay …location is bad as well and dangerous at night ..I recommande the ymca or jazz hostel instead
Very well presented hostel with good staff. Rooms are equipped with bathrooms and comfortable bunk beds. The location is okay 2min walk to nearest subway and then further 15min ride into most places in manhatton. Has a nice terrace that looks over the skyline but no alcohol is allowed. Which brings me to my next point, if your looking for a hostel which put social events on. This is not the place.
This is a surprising little gem. Im past the days of youth hostels but wanted someplace cheap for this trip to NYC since Id only need a hotel room to sleep. This place is, for once, as advertised. Quiet, very clean, and rather hip. My roommates have been quiet and kind and all the people staying there seem the same. The Local has a bar downstairs and they gave me a free drink upon arrival which was well needed after a hot and stressful day! While I hope one day Ill be able to get slightly swankier accommodations as my net worth increases, I would not hesitate to recommend this place! (BTW, the commute is very reasonable into Manhattan. About 20 minutes on the 7 train and I was at the Javitts Center.
Awesome bedding, cheap drinks at the bar, the room has its own shower and private bath. The staff: super friendly & very attentive.. Favorite place so far, the location is about a five minute walk to the Metro. The neighborhood is fine enough to walk around, thoough perhaps not the most dense with food/shopping options
Really good Hostel, to be honest my first hostel experience, I was a bit surprised when I got to share my room with some strangers but they stayed strangers for the least time, we got along very good talked about places to visit in NYC and some places to visit, also the local had a guide to a pretty nice place called The Brooklyn night bazaar which we visited, Big fun! And when its getting late you sit in the bar have a drink or maybe go on the rooftop and enjoy the spectacular view on the skyline. So the hostel is very clean theres a box with a lock for every person in the room to keep your stuff safe (which isnt necessary because the hostel has a pretty good lock for the door). The toilet and the shower is a bit small but not too small. The best part about the hostel is (in my opinion) its location: You have a spectacular view from the roof on the skyline and (in my case) also from your rooms window, there are two metro stations nearby and a road full of restaurants, shops and a fitness center. So overall it was a great time here, I stayed here for 7 days and am completely happy with making the decision staying here, for everyone else struggling to stay here because its a hostel and you got to stay with strangers: dont worry everyone is really nice here its a perfect opportunity to make new friends and learn about people from other countries visiting NYC. Favorite stay on my four week trip all along the east-coast!
The rooms are clean and cozy (we got the honeymoon suit with the queensize bed here), the bar is awesome and especially the bartenders are super nice. The kitchen is a mess but thats just one minus. When you leave the hostel or when you go to the rooftop you have a great view on Manhattans Skyline wich is really amazing if you come home after a night of drinking. Other guests have been super nice so far and I probably would check in here again or recommend it to a friend for another stay in N.Y.!
The Local was a very nice hostel. Very friendly service and nice rooms. Every bed has its own wall outlet and free WiFi which was nice. The bathroom and shower were also in the room. They provide everything youll need except soap and shampoo for shower/sink so bring your own or buy some before you check in.
While visiting NYC, my flight was cancelled and I needed to stay an extra night. The Local NYC was great for this... great price, great atmosphere, great people. The location is in Long Island City, but it’s truly convenient from the both of the major airports & Newark. The employees were all super friendly. They helped me with finding a place to grab a phone charger, but even offered to just lend me theirs to get a charge. Then, I wasn’t sure if I would have to stay a 2nd night as I was waiting to hear back from Airlines. They still offered to hold my bags for free while I went out and about during the day. Thanks “The Local NYC” for the great experience. I’ll be sure to stay here again next time I’m in NYC.
The Local NY is both NYC’s best hostel and the best hostel in Queens as well. This hostel immediately felt relaxing and comfortable, and feels more like a cool art gallery and trendy library with a fun bar (live music weekly, along with events!) for nighttime and a cafe for mornings. The staff is approachable and welcoming, and the rooms themselves are clean, bright and functional. The Local NY is also part of the fabric of the neighborhood, welcoming the art of local artists, both in fine art and live music/performances. Such an awesome place!
Im sure its super rare (at least I hope so) to wake up entangled in gum, but that was my experience. And it wasnt my gum because I wasnt chewing any. This is the second American hostel Ive stayed in and Ive been unimpressed with both. I know hostels are low amenities, Im a pretty seasoned traveler, but the cost for these hostels is outrageous. I paid less than half the rate in Scandinavia for far better hostels. All this place has going for it, from my perspective, is the rooftop. The rooftop view is pretty great. Not what Id say is worth the money, necessarily, but it helped.
Id stay again here in a heart beat.Great views of the NYC skyline at night from the roof top.Great vibes in the bar, and friendly service.Rooms are above average for a hostel. Whats even better is that it is a short walk to the subway so you can go to downtown Manhattan
Location was ok. Not super close to much unique food or much of anything. The room was OK, but the lock box for my bunk was missing its back, I told the staff and they knew about it already but had decided not to tell me beforehand? They have nice facilities and a cool view, but the low proximity to interesting things/food and the staff experience were disappointments.
Location: close to several different lines meaning getting into Manhattan will be a breeze Accomadations: dorms are nice and clean. Not big but there are lockers and free lock rentals to store things Atmosphere: large common area, nice bar with friendly staff. Overall I would absolutely stay here again.
Very clean rooms, clean bathrooms, great facilities, nice bar, nice rooftop, friendly staff..... Amazing hostel experience, and Ive stayed in a lot of hostels in my life. Like in many other hostels some people take others people food. It was not my experience, but heard a guy complaining about it in the kitchen..... Havent stayed in a hostel where that never happens....
The staff are generally nice and accomodating, but when I had items stolen from my room, the manager was super unhelpful and lied to police to stop them from entering my old room. While the amenities are small (the bathroom and toilet are approximately 1m x 1.5m, very cramped) the double bunk beds are reasonable for a hostel and there is a nice and convenient bar located in the front of the hostel.
Ok. This is my first time at a hostel. From what I understand it is on the more expensive side however to me I found tremendous value. As someone who only knows hotel life this experience was everything! The people I encountered were amazing I loved hearing the stories from everyone and why they were there where they were from etc. Georgie behind the bar is THE BEST, honestly one of my favorites from my trip!! I didnt utilize the computers, kitchen or laundry so I can not comment on that. I also didnt stay in the dorm but private room so I cant comment on bunks or anything like that. Only thing I would change is at least some sort of shelf in the bathroom or shower and I wish it was a little less noisy but nothing they can truly do about it. Overall I LOVED my experience and really would consider staying again. Oh and subway is so close and just 3 stops into Manhattan on the E!
One of the best hostels Ive stayed in. very clean and modern with plenty of common spaces to meet other people. Bar has a wide selection of local beers and ciders - try the Docs cider, delicious.I stayed in a four-bed female dorm, and there was enough room when it was full. Would be nice if there was extra hooks for clothes, shelves for the top bunks or at least one chair in the room too.Theres also extra bathrooms on the landing if youre in a rush and cant wait for your in-room shower to be free. The Local is really close to the subway and you can get to Brooklyn or Manhattan v quickly. Id stay again next time Im in the Big Apple
All the so good reviews must be from very young people. Its ok, for a cheap night. But in terms of comfort Id rate it quite low. The room looks run down, old, dirty and some things rusty. Its on the street level, and you can hear people talking in the street, doesnt make you sleep comfortably. Position not so bad, even of the area looks a little sketchy, in 15 mins youre in the heart of Manhattan (subway).
It is an old room which was shocking and dust come flying out of heater. I dont think the conditions are legal and the Manager was very nervous when we said we would call police after housekeeping stole our iPhones. Staff didnt seem to care and had bad face. My friend her father works for the city. The Health dept. will look at this hostel. No guest should suffer here like we did.
We got a private room and the bed was horrible. It was broken and we constantly rolled into the center. The private rooms are on the ground floor and face the street. So lots of noise. The shower curtain wasnt big enough so there was water over the floor and no bath mat. Hostel kitchen was well set up. Cheap bar on site. Washing and drying was $2.50 each. Laundry detergent available for $1 at the desk. Close to public transport and the mill coffee shop which did great lattes. About a 10-15 min walk away is the pepsi sign whish has lots of restaurants and amazing views of manhattan. Head over when its dark for some great photos.
Really modern, friendly, social hostel. Couldnt ask much more for the money - bar is right at the front of the building, really focused on the social side of things which is exactly what you should look for in a hostel. Only criticism is that they could vacuum the halls a bit more often - they stuck out in comparison to the cleanliness of the rooms which were great.
Overall, I had a very pleasant stay at The Local NYC. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Emily who made sure I had settled alright once I arrived as my flight got delayed a few times resulting in me checking in much later than originally planned, at around 00:30. The only downside of the hostel was that there isnt a lift, so watch out if youre carrying loads of luggage! A big plus was the fact theres a subway a few minutes from the hostel, which made it all even easier for me.
It was good. Above all, the most impressive thing is staff. Because they are always kind and tried to help me. But, I think other things are not good. While I was staying there, I cannot use wifi well. So I have to go lobby always. Also not clean in my room. Other persons hair still remained even if I went inside room.
All I can say is: EXCELLENT. The building is beautiful and extremely clean, the staff friendly and nice, everyone smiles all the time and is ready to help you and always suggesting interesting stuff to do in town or planning funny activities to do in the bar to meet new people. The rooms are spacious, silent and comfortable, the kitchen has everything you need, the neighborhood is really quiet and safe, close to Manhattan and practically everything, with a lot of trains nearby and stores or places to eat open 24 hs. The price is totally worthy, Ive been looking for weeks for a cheap hostel that is not a dirty, noisy little place in the middle of nowhere, and Im happy to say I found the perfect place to stay in NYC. I planned to spend my last 9 nights in NYC in some other place, but The Local was so good that I decided to stay there for the rest of my trip. Its not by chance that all the reviews are so positive, they dont lie and give you what they say! Im definitely going to visit NYC soon, and definitely going to stay in The Local again.
Awesome Hostel. I usually never stay at a hostel. This was my first time. The rooms were great. Clean and Modern. The location was convenient to subway lines and even JFK. The staff was courteous and helpful. I couldnt have asked for more. Plus with all the money I saved, I was able to do a lot of great activities around NYC. Great value and would definitely stay again.
This was my first experience with a Hostel, but was definitely better than I thought it was going to be. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful with providing a first time traveller with some crucial information as to how MTA operates. The bar was fun! Its right at the forefront of the entire thing. Im not much of a drinker myself, but the atmosphere was pure enjoyment when I was there for a bit before setting out for the city.To anyone not from New York (me), the location may be ever so slightly off putting if youve never experienced it, but upon arrival, everything was much more pleasant than I originally pictured it (rather, how Google Maps pictured). Theres plenty of food stops around the way, and the Subway and rail lines are never more than a few minutes walk away, and theyll take you anywhere you need to go.The rooms were pretty much how I imagined them. I stayed in the mixed dorm which had two bunk beds and could contain four travelers comfortable. The rooms are equipped with storage lockers for an extra assurance of safety, but everyone had all their stuff out regardless; it was pretty comfortable. The room had a shower that can actually accommodate someone larger than 5 5 unlike some hotels; a toilet in its own standalone room (very smart), a sink, and a window-mounted A/C unit which was very effectively in the brisk cold (at least, for a native of Florida). Did I mention the WiFi here was probably the best I got in the entire city? It is. Virtually no slowdowns! If youre looking to save a hellish amount of money on your trip, but dont wanna sleep on the streets, this hostel is definitely the absolute best! Very much looking forward to my return in a few months.
Im not a cool guy, my hairstyle is comb-over refusing to admit that its a comb-over, but when I go to this place I feel like cool guy. The human beings that work here are tremendous. The food selection isnt really existing, but the selection of liquids is hard to be. Both boozy and caffeinated.I have no idea what this place is like as a hostel, but as a place to kick your boots up, its pretty great.
This very nice hostel is definitively one of my favourite. There is always (except on Thanksgiving) some sort of activity going on in the evening (e.g. drink & draw!). The staff is absolutely great, friendly and helpful. :) I also do like the hostels location, because it is outside of Manhattan and yet still close and easy to get to.
Friendly people, great for low budget travelers. Theres a bar, internet, computers, desks, a lounging area, clean rooms with decent beds. Internet can be a bit painfully slow at times but at least the reception is good throughout. They also plan activities and socializing with others comes pretty naturally.
Itis the most good vibe hostel I slept in New York City. Clean, organized, very good staff. There is a good kitchen and a cafa-bar inside. One of the nights there was a movie festival at the hostel. The rooftop is amazing, fantastic view. In my opinion is the Best choice in NYC.
The staff was friendly. Its close to the E line, which made it really easy to get around. The views from the rooftop are nice. Theres a Bar downstairs, a projector to watch movies. It was raining during my visit, unfortunately it leaked into the room and damaged some of the products I had.
The place is very clean, the ataff is amazing, and they have a bar in the lobby as well as a projector playing movies and lots of comfortable seating, they even have a rooftop lounge area. They even have a washer and dryer for client use in case you need to do laundry
Not bad for a hostel in Long Island City! Cute and quirky lounge and co-working area. Kitchen with a microwave, toaster and refrigerators available. Rooms are reminiscent of a college dorm. Location is within walking distance to the E subway station, first stop outside of Manhattan. They also provided a free beverage and loaned me a lock for the in-room locker upon check-in.Would recommend it if youre on a really tight budget and dont mind the lottery of staying in a room with other people...who may be messy, or may snore, or may come back to the room late, or...you get the picture. No elevator, so if you cant climb stairs ask for a room on the first floor.(I booked a spot in a four-women room just for a place to shower and crash for a couple of hours before a 5am flight out of JFK. It suited my needs just fine.)
The Local has everything you may want from an hostel: near to the metro, a nice bar downstairs, a clean kitchen and a nice working place and people who are friendly and welcoming. The room are very clean and the common bathrooms, except from late night, are always extremely clean.
The local NYC is in a nice spot, not too far from the subway which takes you to Manhatten in less than 15 minutes. Some good eateries and cafes around. The place itself is very clean and well styled. Theres a more laid back atmopshere which I think makes it easier to meet people. Theres a variety of different events each night. And the bar at the front is there too in case you need it.
The Local is a Great hostel to stay in. Located in Long Island City (Queens) this place is very accessible and relatively close to New York City. Situated approx 5min walk from the Court Square subway stn. To go to manhattan catch 7, M or E trains. The staff at the hostel are very helpful. The dorms are quite spacious. You can either bring your own lock or use a lock provided for the safety boxes under the bed. These are quite big and should fit all your personal belongings and carry on luggage. Roomates can snore loudly so I advise that you bring earplugs. The beds are comfy but the cleaners come in everyday around 10-12am for house keeping. Make sure you dont leave any belongings on the bed or they might get moved to lost property. This can be annoying. There is no lift so you have to walk up the stairs with your suitcase. The shower is not that great it doesnt aim directly on you. The kitchen is quite basic. If you like cooking then you might have to modify. Also the dishwasher isnt that great so for the cleanest result wash by hand. Its very important that you name your food with your checkout date or else it might get discarded. The downstairs area is nice. There is a big screen which plays movies, bar and computer spot. This is a nice area to relax and unwind. The laundry is good too. Make sure to set it to warm wash so that your clothes dont shrink. Best of all is the roof top view. It is beautiful at night and a great place to hang out throughout the day. Overall I liked staying at this hostel. Pick your dorm wisely, meet new people. Good luck!
Very friendly staff. Free complimentary drink all for 56$. For cost only thing keeping ut from 5 stars at that price point was the room had a off putting sent like an old locker room which I forgot about after 5 mins and the bathrooms in the room were extremely small. Imagining if 4 people were to share the room it would have felt incredibly cramped.
Located in an industrial area that seems safe, the staff is friendly and common areas are nice. Only negative was the bathrooms, toilet was a little old and yellowish, the showers boxes are kinda small and dont have any soap holders, so you need to work your way to do it. Lockers are big, a/c gets loud.
Extremely good atmosphere and friendly staff. Everything is modern and clean and the facilities are great! The bar with happy hours is also fantastic and the location could not be better: just one stop from Manhattan! I have found no major or minor problem worth mentioning.
Literally amazing from A to Z. The staff is more than perfect and helpful, the area is safe, you can use the common kitchen for anything you like, its very cheap and close to a supermarket, a deli, a diner and not to mention that its 2 minute walk from the subway station. I would definitely recommend any student to stay here. Its not about saving money but it really is very student and youth oriented. Evenings include activities like movie screening, live performances...
Super nice place that was located relatively near to NYC. For the price point, it was a great choice was it was located very near to a mart, a station, as well as some quaint little cafes a short walk down. Nice rooftop, calming views at night and in the morning. It was also near one of a warehouse maintenance repair for one of my cameras, coincidentally. So its a plus for me!
There are only 2 good hostels in NYC. HI New York City Hostel which is a huge place in Manhattan and then there is the Local NYC which is smaller but with all the great qualities a traveler desires in a hostel, located in LIC, on the Queens side, right across Manhattan. The location is perfect since you can come here from JFK with just taking the express E 🚇 and with the same 🚇, it’s one stop away from Manhattan. I like to spend 1 night here, whenever back in NYC to socialize with the backpackers. If you’re visiting NYC as a solo traveler. This is the best option as accommodation. The only negative is that during winter and spring... the rooms are freezing 🥶. No system in place to generate heat. So you gotta layer up.
Stayed their for week, extended my stay for another while I moved to the states from London, the staff are all really helpful and friendly. I now live down the road and I now visit regularly for the amazing staff and the atmosphere, you cant get better then here, Film night Mondays, live music Wednesday Trivia Thursdays an exhibition or art showing at the weekend their is always something going on for the residents to make you feel welcome and entertained.
Dirty heater i would never use after see that heater with a lot of dust inside , just next to the bed. Dirty a again the blanket with red spots... Very noise(i could hear the voise fron next room taking on the phone and people from the street) i dont know how this hostel has the good reviews...... 절대 비추입니다.
Absolute disgrace of a hostel. This is the first hostel that Ive stayed in and lost items.I lost my phone charger, cable, headphone due to the cleaner mistakenly thought that I already checked out and remade the bed.The hostel denied any wrong doing, and instead blamed me for their mistake!!Stay here if you want your things stolen.
Great rooms, and a great staff. Conveniently located for going to explore Manhattan or party in Brooklyn. About 3 blocks from the subway station.Theres a bar in the hostel and they host local events too. Meet a group of local artists having a meetup the first night I stayed.
My 2 nights stay in the local Hostel was fantastic for 2 reasons.1. I loved the enviroment there; the lobby, the crowd and the reception.2. It was pretty easy for me to travel to my working place. So i would like to thank the local hostel team and offcoarse i recommend young people ljke me to stay in the local when ever they are planning to go to ny
Location not good 👎 not a hostel atmosphere more its for peoples who want to stay for years there is no real travellers hereso you can’t really enjoy nyc and meet friends for your trip most of the peoples are like 40 years old and they have like a jobI will not recommend it to a friend or even my enemy 🤣
I am so disappointed in this place. I booked a room that had a roommate. At the time, I booked the room through Priceline, nowhere did it say anything about gender. It said the room had two people in occupancy. I thought this would be a good experience to share. Well, when I got here there were no rooms available. They also stated they do not use Priceline as a service. So the representative makes me pay the difference in fees. Thats bad enough. But I pay the fee because since the room was booked Im stuck. After he makes me pay that fee, then he claims I used an expired credit card on Priceline, I had to repay the $73 charge and get the money through Priceline, even though the website says no refunds on this order, and said so before I booked it. Ill never come here again. Ive never had a problem with Priceline before this nonsense
The location is great, especially for tourists looking to avoid Manhattan hotel prices. The vibe is awesome, and the staff is super helpful. My only downside was the room, which although had a super loud AC, still suffered from noise issues, due to being on ground level with thin walls and windows, and next door to the laundry.
I will never be staying at this hostel again and dont advise anyone else to especially if this is your first time visiting New York, like mine. I wish I could put 0 zeros. They ruined my New York experience. I only stayed here because my sister convinced me and it was my first time ever staying in a hostel which I didnt care for once it was over. One of the worst parts was I paid with my debit card 10/15 when I checked in, but it wasnt taken out of my account until three days after I checked out. (I checked out 10/19, didnt show until 10/22) I thought that was odd, but I was like okay whatever. Fast forward to 10/29 I check my bank account that morning my account is wiped out and in the NEGATIVE. Im like what hell because I knew I had plenty of money. I check my activity, Local NYC had charged me AGAIN almost $300!! NINE days after I checked out and was back in Atlanta where I lived. I was so confused. I immediately called and the man who answered was not helpful at all. All he said was the finance department wouldnt be in for another 2 and a half hours and they will keep in touch Tf? I called around 7:30 am didnt get a call until after 3 pm from the same guy and he asked could I email them screenshots of my bank account because they didnt charge me -__- luckily I did screenshot my account for this very purpose, and I informed him they definitely DID charge me I seen it with my own eyes. I quickly sent the email and about an hour later get a call from a woman who is investigating and ALSO Asks me to send the screenshots to her email. I informed her I was just asked to send them but I would happily do it again and she told me thats okay, she will just look at the front desk. A couple hours later I get an email asking me to send them to her email because she couldnt find it -___- so here I am sending yet another email. Like the what the heck, Im not making this up. The next day, I get an email from her saying they checked their system and it doesnt show they charged me it may have something to do with my bank authorization and the charges will dissapear after a few days and contact my bank if I need the money immediately -__- I responded and said neither I or my bank would ever authorize a double charge 9 days after I checked out and that I have been with this bank for six years and this has never ever happened. Also that my bank disputed the charge and is doing a further investigation on the matter. So, I got my money back which was my main concern, but long story short I will NEVER EVER EVER stay at this hostel again just because of the B.S. Also, my younger sister who stayed with me also had to get a new credit card because The Local NYC tried charging her twice as well, but since she didnt have enough in her account, they just took all the money she had. And conveniently the people at the NYC also had no record of that either. I dont know whats going on and I just dont appreciate the way they handled the situation. You dont play with peoples money like that. I send you a clear screenshot of the money you wrongfully took, and you dont take responsibility for it. Im so done with them. Dont stay here unless you want something shady to happen to your money once you go back home.
The bar man Seth advised that its a rule to tip as he does not earn a fair wage (minimum of a dollar but more is expected) he also refused to serve me until I tip him.....For handing me a can of beer?He is also fed up of forgeiners not following American customs (supporting his sense of entitlement)He also advised that he is part of the family that own and run the local NYC he is the single longest serving employee and if I complain I will look bad?I dont agree in supporting mediocracy, I dont owe you anything, dont spoil my holiday experience because you feel you are entitled.

2022-05-17This is a great, clean hostel. The rooftop is chill with a gorgeous view of the upper Manhattan skyline. Rooms, showers, and toilets have no wasted space, but the bathroom does have the sink shower and toilet all separate so the bathroom doesn’t get tied up by one person. Keep in mind this is a hostel, and I had some roommates that made the experience less than comfortable, but that’s just hostel life. No complaints!

2022-04-24A good hostel. Clean and well furnished with comfortable beds and ample locker space. Staff service were amazing. Cons were that the kitchen was hopeless (so dont come here if you want to prepare your own food) and the key cards didnt always work.

2022-04-24Stayed for 3 nights this week during a quick solo trip to New York and had a wonderful stay. Beautiful views, just a short walk from Court Square Station so its super easy to get to Manhattan. The bar was great, there are computers for guests as well as laundry, a kitchen and a lounge spot with books. Rooms come with towels, bedding and lockboxes. I booked a 3 person female dorm and had it to myself the first night and I always felt extremely safe. The lady at the check in desk when I arrived was not extremely kind but everyone else absolutely was so Im giving 5 stars. My first time to New York and it wont be my last, I would definitely stay here again.

2022-06-25Great hostel to stay in Queens area. Very close to LGA and in the vicinity of the major district in Queens. The dorms where super clean, bedding was comfortable and didn’t feel old, smelled or bugs. They provided two clean towels which were as good as some of the star hotels! The front desk was very welcoming, people who shared the dorms were courteous. There is a kitchen, a full bar and the dorm I stayed came with attached shower. Highly recommended if you’re in the area. This is worth the money.

2022-02-11Stayed there for a night in 2019. And yes, I just came back to 5-star it. Really clean, really cool vibes, and loved the people. Plus, a drink on the house with check in (not too bad, eh?!)

2022-05-22One of the worst hostels Ive ever been to. Bathroom of 4 people bedroom is too small, the kitchen is not big enough and not enough utensils and appliances are available, same as common places for having meals. The hostel doesnt organize almost any activity, theres not enough cleaning and on our stay there has been even a private event on the bar that took the already little common space available.Convenient location and price are only the two good points.

2022-04-15The housekeeper didn’t clean for several days, so I requested a room change since I booked for several upcoming days. They wouldn’t let me change a room and (lied) told me it was fully booked even though the website and third party booking sites show many available rooms. The next day, the staff retaliates against me for writing the above review. He comes to my room and tells me to leave since I made complaints about the lack of housekeeping services. It was so extremely rude. I was happy with the stay except for the lack of services and didn’t want to leave or cancel for the following week. I didn’t even mention the lack of housekeeping to anyone until several days passed, and the staff was essentially yelling at me that I was “taking advantage” of him. I really don’t have any other words for this treatment. I had to repeatedly tell him that I was happy with the stay except for the lack of housekeeping which was resolved when they cleaned today, since he was trying to make me leave because I made a single complaint. I want to clarify once again that I am very happy with the stay except for the lack of previous housekeeping services, and I will not be canceling the rest of my reservation. It is really an extreme overreaction from them to try to get me to leave, because I had only spoken to the staff one time about any issues and had only posted this review. It seems like they are being abused or threatened their employment behind the scenes, so that’s why they are so harsh towards a guest for complaining and writing a review.Today, another aggressive male staff came in my room and argued with me for 15 minutes about having my own bags in my room. I have shared my room with 3 other girls and none of them have had any issue with my bags in the room (I asked them right when we met). It is empty space and there is enough room for walking inside. They are bullies looking for any reason to harass guests. The staff aren’t the ones using the room either, but only they have complained about the bags and none of the guests inside have. Please hire better!!Please post luggage storage costs publicly. I was told that there is no charge originally when I asked yesterday, and today at checkout the manager told me there are extra charges out of nowhere. After asking him to waive it since I stayed for more than 20 nights and because I want to check in tomorrow for additional nights (he told me storage before check in is free), he started crying. He was confused himself and then changed the charges ($42 to $35) since they’re not written anywhere. These charges shouldn’t be a surprise to the guest and need to be posted in a policy publicly. I then asked for a receipt for these charges, and he handed me a receipt with a list of other charges I have never seen before. I couldn’t tell whether these charges are additional and he has just charged them now again when I swiped my card just now. I was told I would be charged $35 for luggage storage, and I was handed a bill for $109.15. This is the same person as the first incident. He is really rude and impatient and even told me to just leave with my belongings when I asked for a lower storage cost since I stayed for almost a month. I still don’t understand the bill and he won’t answer any questions about it (why it lists $35 twice for debit and credit - I should only be charged $35 once by debit).

2022-06-12This is the fourth hostel/cheap hotel Ive stayed in in the last 10 months, and its easily the best one! The rooms are incredibly clean, the staff are awfully kind and nice. Will recommend this place for anyone looking for a cheap and stress-free stay in NYC!

2022-04-20Was looking for a place friends can stay, but since this place still allows reusable masks that demonstrably dont help per CNNs expert Dr Wen, Im removing this place from the list.Modification after your reply: I patronize places that follow the science. EU airlines dont allow cloth masks. And vaccine requirements dont cut transmission as evidenced by Floridas death rate 331/100k vs NY 347/100k. CA has more people with N95s, and has lower death rates per 100k. Allowing cloth is the same as allowing nothing w/o vaccine mandates. Will not be recommending you. Better to go with Eric Adams medical experts opinion instead of your own at this point.Still implying that vaccines stop people from spreading and that cloth masks are effective when multiple studies have shown the contrary. You can verify N95 more easily than vaccination. Until you require N95 youre hypocritical. Id be curious to see if someone who didnt see this alert files against you guys. Also very misleading with youre welcome here on the windows when clearly immunocompromised people who cant get the shot arent.

2022-03-09The hostel was amazing and the service even more so. The hostel was tastefully furnished and with attention to detail. Moreover, the receptionists were super friendly and helped us out in a predicament.
