Had three Macbooks that needed some TLC, and was grateful to discover the Mac Support Store just blocks from where I live. Judi was thoughtful and listened as I broke down each set of issues with the various laptops and what I was hoping to accomplish. She was great as my point of contact as theyre operating under Covid19 protocols to keep everyone safe, which is greatly appreciated given how evil this virus has been. They charge a basic fee to evaluate each unit, and give you a detailed feedback form so you can understand whats going on with your computer and your varying options as sometimes its not a one-fix-fits-all sort of deal.Very happy with the end results and would highly recommend them if youre in the area and can take advantage of their facility here in Brooklyn.
Mac Support gave me a detailed estimate of the work that had to be done and they did the work quickly and charged me what they estimated. My lap top is working again smoothly and speedily. They also recommended a tech person who came to my home to re-install the applications that were erased when the malware had to be removed from my computer. He too was successful in his endeavors and pleasant to work with. I am deeply grateful to Mac Support!
I have known Jeff for a number of years now. He has worked on 3 of my Mac Books, my wifes, and recently tuned up my daughters. Professional and incredibly knowledgeable about all things Apple. I have recommended The Mac Support Store to several friends and all have had overwhelmingly positive experiences. In my book there is nowhere else to go. Thank you Jeff and co. for always being on the ball, offering terrific service at fair prices.
I really appreciate the staff at The Mac Support store. Jeff helped me figure out a creative solution after my new MacBook Pro was beyond repair after some serious water damage. On a tight budget he offered a creative solution to bring in an old slow 2011 MacBook Pro laptop with a hard drive on then fritz to be upgraded. It was a great solution, the upgrades they did gave me a new lap top that worked exceptionally well. I am very grateful for all their help! Super grateful too for them reviving an old computer which is apparently a much better design than the new Mac Books Pros!
Repairs were done well, in a timely fashion and at a fair price, and the store did well about staying in touch. I only dropped a star because the initial estimate was padded out with software services I didnt require (i.e., backup/restore and malware scan), which would have doubled the bill. Because I brought this up with the rep on the phone before going over the estimate, I honestly dont know if the optional nature of these services would have been pointed out; however, they were quite pleasant and accommodating when I requested only the hardware repairs. All in all, a great resource in the neighborhood, which Id happily revisit.
Very friendly, professional staff. I was not made to feel overwhelmed by the diagnostics of my Mac. Everything was itemized clearly and I was not pressured into having the repairs done immediately.I did complete the repairs and I am so happy that I did. I was surprised at the speed at which it was completed. Now I have my Mac, good as new again I am a very satisfied client and would willingly refer my friends to them.Excellent work!
I was visiting NY and my Macbook Pro needed to be fixed. When I found Mac Support Store, Jeff helped me get my laptop repaired. Once there I asked about a desktop for my business and when Jeff showed me the 27 desktop I was sold. I asked if he would ship it and without hesitation he did. Great customer service and knowledge of all Apple. No other place will get my business going forward. Thanks Mac Support Team for everything.
The Mac Support store was great. My laptop keyboard broke after my nephew made a game out of pounding on the keys one day. The Mac store was going to charge me around $800 to fix it, and I was considering just getting a new laptop because it was 3 years old, which I think is why they charge so much.... Instead took the laptop to the Mac Support Store and they charged me only about $200 for what is like a brand new computer. I am so happy and hope with their help this laptop will last longer than the 4 year average of my past macbooks. I will definitely come back next time I have any issues.
If your Mac is acting up–and, like me, you would rather eat broken glass than deal with the crowds at an Apple Store–check out the Mac Support Store. They are Apple-certified, so they can handle repairs on all your Apple products all your repairs and even sell you a new computer without ever having to step foot in an Apple Store (this is a major selling point for me). The staff is super nice and provide very personalized service, which has been nice in the age of COVID precautions. Theyve repaired my iMacs and iPhones for several years now and have made me never want to visit a Genius Bar again.
DO NOT GO HERE! If I could leave zero stars I would. I made the huge mistake of buying a refurbished laptop from them. Four months later it is already incredibly slow and glitchy. It now just randomly shuts off and stays non-responsive fore hours. I brought it in them and they said absolutely nothing was wrong with it. I have a feeling, this is only because I am still under there warranty. I am sure once I am not in their warranty period they will be able to find hundreds of dollars of repairs like they normally do. On top of all this, I stressed to everyone who worked there I work from home and needed my laptop back as soon as possible. They took twice as long as they estimated. Why does it take 48 hours for them to tell me nothing is wrong? This is what you get when you spend $1500 on one of their laptops - a faulty laptop and a way for them to continually waste your time and money. I regret purchasing any from them because now I have to continue to deal with them wasting my time and money. I dont even have time to get into the condescending attitude of the people who work there. Save yourself from frustration and finical loss, go anywhere else! Also, I find it very strange they are so highly ranked on google. Something seems fishy? Go check out there yelp rating. The one star reviews there really paint an accurate picture of what dealing with this place is like.
Stay away from this repair store at all cost. They will hold your computer over night and then send you and super high estimate for over $600. I went in there with a battery issue, my computer told me to replace battery now. I took it there to get my battery replaced but they wanted to keep my computer for 3 days. They emailed me back after 3 days (of screwing up my computer) then said I need $700 worth of repairs. Mine you I was just using the computer a Day before coming to them. This store is a scam go to micro center they will fix problems the same day
I brought my macbook pro here after having splashed a significant amount of juice on it. It was not starting at all. The staff was incredibly kind and patient with all of my questions, they had several options after the free diagnostic and never once pressured me to spend more money than I was comfortable spending. They ended up completely repairing my computer with some kind of magical liquid damage chemical treatment and it is like new. It was an incredibly positive experience. They were very kind, relaxed, no-pressure, efficient and helpful. I will go back there with any mac needs.
They are my reliable go-to for all computer issues and I can trust them to be knowledgable and helpful. Also, during this Covid time they will come down to your car to pick up the computer and you can pick it up the same way. I am so grateful that they are in my borough!
My Macbook Pro crashed while traveling for a couple weeks, and I had some work during this period that was not backed up. The staff at the Mac Support Store were great through the entire process! The process and pricing scenarios were clearly laid out, I was called within 36 hours of dropping off the computer, and they managed to extract all of my data during the middle of the holiday season. Upon returning home and dropping the computer off at the local Apple Store, I found out the problem with the computer was quite serious (logic board). The quick service by the team at the Mac Support Store really saved me in this case - the data on the computer, related to my work, was much more valuable than the computer itself, and ended up saving me a huge hassle. Generally I found the 3 employees I interacted with to be professional, straightforward, and courteous, and I wouldnt hesitate to go back should I ever be in the New York area and need service.
Review: Over the years, as our kids became more computer savvy, we purchased a few refurbished and fully loaded Macs that we used for a very long time. Anytime we had issues with our own new iPhones and computers, they took care of the repair quickly and efficiently. Glad we have these guys so near by!!
Please support this business rather than apple shareholders and APPL’s planned obsolescence....MacBook Pro battery was spent - these good folks replaced it and saved me hours upon hours of frustrating tiny screws...now I don’t need to buy a new machine for at least a year. (Apple stopped servicing anything older than 5 years - boo! ) This shop is more helpful and informed that your average Apple employee. They help you understand the problem and also the diagnostic fee is super low. So if you opt not to do the repair, then you’re not out that much cash.
The Mac Support Store is a hidden gem.The team here goes beyond the call of duty to help technology work for customers. Jeff helped me puzzle through how to get a video editing project done, and his solutions were both effective and economical.I have also rented equipment and had data recovered by the Mac Support store — good work, good bargains. I feel like they have my back. And at a time when local Apple tech places are disappearing, to have this FAMILY RUN local business here in Gowanus is simply icing on the cake.Final note: frequent this great business!
Very professional and friendly service. Took a laptop here to get a new hard drive and battery and now it works like new. Prices are reasonable, likely more affordable than going directly to Mac Store. They also work fast. Everything was done while I waited and only took about 20 minutes. Would recommend and use their services again, no hesitation...
Intake was very easy. Person at the desk who took my smashed macbook was very nice and helpful. Turnaround time on the evaluation was quick - I dropped off at end of day and heard from them the next morning. Price to repair was too high for the age of the computer so I opted not to have them do the work. There was no issue with my pick-up and no pressure to have the work done. I was very pleased with the experience - even if I did end up having to buy a new machine (which has nothing to do with them).
Very nice people. I was a bit worried about taking my Macbook pro for a battery replacement, not sure how long it might take, but I had it back the next day and working perfectly! Was very happy with the service, and the fact that the diagnostic was free (and came out clean :) ).Would definitely recommend and will come again if/when needed.
My MAC computer was running VERY slow. After on-line support from Apple, where they checked the available memory and reloaded the operating system, it was still not working correctly. I was told it was vintage (purchased in 2013!) A friend suggested the Mac Support Store and I took it to be checked. The hard drive was corrupted! Within a few days they had installed a new hard drive, restored the folders and files to their original set-up, and my computer runs like new. Saved myself the price of a new MAC computer for a parts/labor charge of just over $600. Im not a computer whiz, and they were so supportive, understanding and friendly. I couldnt be happier!
The only reason these guys get 4 stars is because they took an extra day to get back to me on the diagnostics on my Mac. Other than that these guys are pretty good! I had my Mac Back within a few Days. Dropped it off Monday Morning and was in my hands Thursday morning. I was so glad I didnt have my Mac Cleaned especially it was a hard drive issue. These guys are definitely on point! I would definitely go back if I had another issue. Great work guys!
I brought my 2009 Mac for a free diagnosis as it is running very slowly. I was provided with 2 comprehensive recommendations to speed it up and extend its life. There was no hard sell, and lots of understanding. I have been to the Apple Genius desk and found the experience very manic. The quietness and personal touch at the Mac Support Store was very refreshing in comparison.
After liquid damage to my laptop and waiting two hours at the Apple Store to be told some unfortunate financial news-- id heard about this store from a friend who told me to get a second opinion.Im glad I did because their repair was more feasible for me and they were knowledgeable, available and easy to chat with. I wasnt able to fix the laptop and asked them to recycle it for me-- which they did after double checking with me!
While in NYC for work my old laptop went kaput (a 17 2011 MacBook Pro). I brought it into The Mac Support Store and while they were checking it out I rented one of their refurbished ones for the week. The rental price was very reasonable and the unit worked easily! After installing the needed drivers (for codecs and my PCI-to-USB-3 adapter) I was able to edit, color correct, and render 4K (4096x2160) RAW XAVC video in Adobe Premiere and motion graphics in AE with no problems. When I got the results of the diagnostics on my old one it was going to be a fairly pricey repair job , though, reasonable considering the issues the old unit had after years of hard jobs and abuse in exotic locations. The fact it lasted so long is a testament to how sturdy these old ones were made! So, I decided to purchase one of their refurbished models (a 17 2012 MacBook Pro). Ive had it for about a month now and its been a wonderful upgrade from my old one. While there I spoke with the owner (who was kind enough to bring me a coffee from down the street while I waited) and discussed some upgrade needs I have for my 2012 Mac Pro tower back home and he gave me some good pointers and even a way to increase its rendering speed for free (regarding RAM). When I got back I tried it out and to my dismay it was actually a bit faster using RAM in the way hed described than the way I had it set up previously by my local repair/refurbishing store. My only complaint is that I wish I had a local Mac repair/upgrade store like this where I live! If I did Id be dragging my desktop system in for the needed upgrades instead of the haphazard way Ive been doing it over the past year. Heck, Im considering just shipping it to them anyway. The additional cost/time would be worth the knowledge that itd be in good hands and Id not have to worry about the results.
Im giving the Mac Support Store 1 star for their horrible customer service and lack of transparency. After paying the diagnostic fee, I was quoted for $580.00. I tried making sense of the estimate, but needed some help. To pay this much money, I want to know exactly what Im paying for and to have it explained to me in terms that I can understand. Thats a reasonable request for any business thats quoting a customer hundreds of dollars. I called and spoke to the same person who I met at the front desk. He didnt really give me straight answers, and it was only after asking many questions that I found out the only thing I actually needed to get my computer up and running again was a new hard drive cable, which was quoted at $79.00 ($500 less than the estimate). I wouldnt have known this without calling them, and they made it really hard to get straight answers about the repair. The employee met most of my questions with condescension and rudeness. I highly recommend going somewhere else - its not worth it to get treated like dirt while paying way more money than you need to.
I went in absolutely panicked about a deadline and possible lost data (hadnt backed up in awhile) when my laptop refused to charge, asking if they had a battery right on hand. They did, and could replace it while I waited. There was no wait. They were reassuring, sympathetic, and discovered immediately that it was the cord, not the battery, did tests, and let me know that my battery was good for a long time to come. They helped me with back-up issues.I will return, grateful for their nearness, their honesty, their helpfulness and that they had what I needed when I needed it with no need to wait.
Great place with knowledgeable people that act with integrity. I brought in a Mac laptop that was repeatedly crashing. They ran a diagnostic and told me it was from a line of Macs that was under extended warranty & recall, so eligible for free repair from mac. They handed me back my computer no questions asked, no charge for my diagnostic.I will definitely go back when I have a need and bring them my business.
I highly recommend the Mac Support Store at 168 7th St in Brooklyn.I made a dreadful mess in my MacBook Pro. Judi and her staff did a diagnosis over night and gave me an evaluation the next day. The evaluation was sufficiently detailed to allow me to talk to the technician on the telephone to modify the proposal to better suit my needs. The computer was ready the next day. It is in great shape. I will go back to this shop even if it is a bit out of my way.
A good experience getting my Macbook Pro fixed. Communication was clear and helpful in making a decision on the repairs. Also got good advice for free on issues with new Macs vs. the older models, pros and cons. Since the demise of Tekserv, good to have this place to turn to.
The Mac Support Store is a life saver! Ive had 2 business transactions with MSS actually. The techs are very experienced. In 2017 I had an iMac desktop computer repaired the job was so affordable and very well done. This yr, I desperately needed a macbook for school. I couldnt afford a new one. I purchased a 2010 Macbook Pro...listen, they really meant fully loaded, it has all the programs I need and works like a charm. Im a forever customer. Thank you so much.
The Mac Support Store provided outstanding service every time I needed maintenance on my MacBooks. The staff is professional, courteous, and efficient, often taking their time to explain any issue or address the customers concerns. I highly recommend it for its exemplary service.
I took advantage of the free diagnostic appointment option, and ended up feeling I had taken advantage of a small business. As I said to Jeff, one of the owners as we finished up What is the business model that lets me spend almost an hour with one of the founders - tweaking my Mac, getting training and advice - and paying nothing at the end?Id arrived with my wifes MacAir suffering from several niggling performance issues. Over the course of Jeffs diagnostic session no smoking gun solutions were revealed. Nothing that would get the machine on a workbench and generating money for the store. But as he scanned the settings and the software that might be dragging down performance and causing glitches, diagnostic crossed over into tune-up - switch this, trash that, download this, update that, every 6 months try this, in the future never do that.Laptop performance is improved, and I know better how to keep it humming. No charge.Ive been using the Mac Support Store off and on since it opened. It has always demonstrated high integrity and commitment to customer satisfaction. Theyve trusted that approach to yield a successful business. I think it has been open 10 years now, so I guess the business model is working after all.
Not to be rude to anyone else posting on here but I truly believe a majority of the people who are posting 5 stars and praising them on their service don’t know much about computers. I have a broken key on my laptop and called them to see if they could repair it.. they said they’d try.. fair enough so I went to them to have them check it out.. the guy behind the counter didn’t even make eye contact once and told me they would need to replace the whole keyboard for $199(thanks Mac for your terrible design) which is ok.. but then told me it would cost $129 for them to “diagnose” my laptop.. it’s literally a broken key.. what do you need to diagnose? I was confused and the person behind the counter didn’t bother to elaborate further what he meant by diagnosing. There was clearly no damage but they wanted to charge me $129 to diagnose the laptop. I’d understand a more reasonable price but $129? To confirm a key is broken? Like the key in my hand isn’t enough? I’d understand if they were gonna repair the laptop but what’s the point of diagnosing when you want to replace the whole uppercase of it anyway? Seemed quite silly to diagnose a key and then rip it all out anyway.. I ended up just buying a keyboard online for $30 and having someone else install it for $100 and ended up saving myself $200.
A great resource for Brooklyn. Attentive, knowledgable and pleasant staff. They were all a pleasure to work with and I encourage anyone who has technical needs to consider using their services. Home grown businesses like the Mac Store are what the community should be supporting as it keeps money in our communities and fosters the kind of neighborhood that New Yorkers often lament is leaving our city. Support this company! They also have a wonderful modest mini museum of older macs that still work that are cool to see there. Highly recommend.
The Mac Support Store was very helpful in helping me fix my computer. At first I wasnt sure if it would be a good idea to go anywhere but the Apple store, but after visiting this store, the service was really good. Everyone was friendly, and they helped me set up the new computer I purchased from them really quick and easily. When I went back because I was having a problem with one off the programs preinstalled on my computer, they did not give me trouble and fixed the problem quickly.
It’s official. This is now my Mac spot.I had this place repair my MacBook pro and 1st gen iPod. Both required expert level service. The iPod needed a new battery, which wasn’t easy to find.Everything came back perfectly for a good price. It’s been a few weeks and both devices are running beautifully. This place is the best, fahgedaboudit, they got…• Fair prices• Good turn around time• Courteous service• Expert knowledge• Good advice, with no pressure to buy their products.• No painful wait! Everything was quick, not rushed.• The place was reminiscent of Tekserve. (Remember that place?) It had that nostalgic ambiance, lots of mac memorabilia and classic machines, and a sense of humor, e.g. the door mat. There aren’t many customer friendly businesses in NYC. I feel that this place is one of the good ones. Jeff and Judy are both lovely, knowledgeable, and hard working biz owners who clearly care about running a tight shop. I look forward to taking my business to them again.
I feel The Mac Support Store to be an invaluable asset not only to us Brooklynites but for folks around the adjacent boroughs I feel their service is incredible to say the least they are not only very courteous but they do know their work. My 09 iMac would not turn on at all and I had tried everything imaginable so I took it to the Mac Support Store having been there many years ago, I brought in my iMac on a Friday morning, they performed a free diagnosis on Friday or Saturday and e-mailed me the results, suggestions and invoice on Saturday afternoon they worked on it on Monday and I had it back by that Tuesday that is fast for the work I had done on it my friends and now I am very happy that it is running better than ever. They upgraded my OS suggested I maxed the memory for better performance and most importantly changed the broken parts and the machine came back working almost brand-new. Prices were pretty reasonable. All this I have mentioned above is why I will with no doubt return to the Mac Support Store in the future for repairs again superb quality of service/mac expertise and incredible turnaround time. I wanna thank all the guys there for all their help it was a pleasure talking with you. Keep up the good work Mac Support Store. You guys Rock.
Judi was patient and helpful in talking me through my options about upgrading software and assessing storage needs on my trusty rusty MacBook Air. from their diagnostics, I now know that though my machine is several years old, its in good shape. and I have a roadmap for how to get my devices synced and backed up more effectively. a sweet environment for lifetime Apple users.
Took my Mac Pro for repair to Mac Support Store. While the Apple Store wanted to charge me $1K without having run any diagnostic at all, just to send it to repair, Mac Support Store took my machine, gave me an estimate within one day and repair it within a couple of days! Thanks to everyone at the Mac Support Store!
The folks at TMSS are AMAZING to work with. Had boot issues with my ancient Mac Pro while under a deadline. They not only did their extensive diagnostics quickly and diligently, but helped manage my stress with a rental computer that had everything I needed to deliver to my client on time. They then had very helpful and budget-aware options to upgrade parts of my computer, and did the work within days. Bonus: they dont make you feel like an idiot when you go to them for help. If youve been dreading having to go to the Company Store when your Mac is sick, and miss Tekserve, bring your business here.
My older (2011) MacBook Pro failed to start up so I brought it over here. They were understanding and tried to fix it cheaply through diagnostics but it ended up being a bad GPU. They stuck to the price they quoted me, stuck to the timeframe they quoted me, replaced the GPU and installed some fan control software so I could keep the laptop from getting too hot which is probably what killed the GPU. Laptop works like a champ now, and I really like being able to monitor internal temperatures and control the fan manually. I would definitely recommend this place and use it again for any Mac problems I cant solve myself.
I was working with Apple for over a year to fix my laptop and finally a supervisor suggested I go to a certified repair shop. Ive worked with Mac support in the past and was very satisfied...so I came back. They took the computer and overnight identified the problems. I had the repairs done and after more than a year got a working computer. But because of previous problems, although my music showed up on the repaired computer, i couldnt play it. I brought my laptop back and they worked on it till they figured out the problems,...and continued to work with it till they came up with a solution! I happily have all my music back.. I cant thank them enough for, their efforts
My iMac wouldnt turn on, so I took it to the Apple store. Of course they couldnt fix it. I heard words such as too old, Apple no longer makes parts for this model, etc., and my best course was to find a place that repaired old Macs, or buy a new one. So I found a place to fix it--The Mac Support Store. Not only were they conveniently close to where I lived, but within 24 hours they told me what was wrong, and what was needed to fix the problem. Had my computer back within a week. LOVE THEM!!!!
Well....I had hoped to not leave a terrible review but I was forced to do it by their practices. After paying a nominal $29 for a diagnostic fee, I kept my fingers crossed and hoped for the best. I received an email 3-4 days later telling me that the water damage caused by me spilling a bit of water on the keyboard would set me back a little over $1000 dollars !!!They ran down a laundry list of things that needed to be repaired. I quickly decided to have a data retrieval. They informed me that it would be, at minimum, $500! I decided to get a second opinion. After reading the reviews of the Mac Support Store, I saw how someone was treated so much better at Rossman Repair in the East Village. I picked my MacBook up and took it over to Rossman. I told him that I needed my data transferred to an external hard drive. He quoted me a price of $150. I was amazed when he opened my Mac and stated, with a smile, “why do you need a back up?” Lo and behold, my MacBook was working again. He explained that sometimes you get lucky and the components dry out.Did The MacBook Support Store know that my computer had been working properly but just wanted to take me for a ride? I don’t know but I do know that they DID attempt to charge me $200 more for a data retrieval and storage. I wouldn’t have spent that exorbitant amount for the retrieval because I knew better but I truly feel for those who do not.I would not patronize this establishment. I do not like being robbed or being the mark for an attempted robbery.
I just had a laptop repaired at Mac Support Store. In fact over the past decade I have bought desktops, laptops and accessories from them and have had iphones, ipads and laptops repaired by them.I like supporting this local family business and they are the first call I make whenever I need mac/ipad/iphone help. They give me honest feedback about repair needs and never up-sell me on services I dont think I need. Thank you Mac Support Store!
My Mac was on its deathbed, and the Mac Store was very professional and efficient in diagnosing the problem and helping me work through the options, both over the phone and in person. The work was done quickly, and delivered on time, even over the holidays. Knowledgeable and calm, their service was exactly what I needed. I appreciate having you in the neighborhood. Thank you!
I went to the store with a malfunctioning track pad thinking I would help out a local store instead of Apple. They first told me I needed a new battery at 100$, but when I went to pick up my computer and pay my computer was nowhere near fixed. After more tests which took up almost two hours of my day waiting at the store they told me I needed to pay another 200$ to replace the entire top plate of my computer. I asked for my old battery back and went to the actual Apple store where they told me to just use an external mouse. My problem is solved and my computer now works great, no thanks to the Mas Support Store.WATCH OUT THEY JUST WANT AS MUCH MONEY AS THEY CAN SQUEEZE OUT OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have had good experiences at the Mac Support Store, with getting rid of a virus, and with recovering photos from an old computer which I could not open. My only complaint is that it is a little pricey, although I did not comparison shop so the prices may be typical.
Excellent and knowledgeable staff! I bought a refurbished 2011 Macbook Pro that came with high end software like Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro and so far it is running smoothly and efficiently. Definitely recommend this as a good alternative to the Apple Store if youre looking for a repair or refurbished laptop.
Sadly this place has gone down. The owner lady is nice but the young kids working for her at the front desk are really abnoxious. So many times I would go there and some guy would ask me to sign and waite for 10 minutes while nobody was in line. They have such an attitude. Its over priced and takes too long. They are many new outlets which can fix your laptop faster and for much less.
Not helpful, because you recommended a company in San Francisco who wanted to charge me anywhere between $700 and $2,400 to retrieve my files from the broken flash drive. I called me friend who is a software engineer in Denver and he saudered the broken usb connections reconnected to the computer and retreived all the files for a nice bottle of burbon, that cost me $52. So were you helpful to me, not a bit and you charged me some $49.00 or something to tell me the obvious that its broken! LOL! Disappointing!
If you visit this cute, comfortable store, you can play LodeRunner on a Macintosh SE. Their collection of old Macs and Powerbooks is stunning. I visited because my Macbook Air wouldnt turn on. Service was friendly and prompt.Im giving 4 out of 5 here because it took them 3 days to diagnose my issue when they said it would take 2 days. In the end I replaced my Macbook, and The Mac Support Store was able to take the Airs SSD and put it in a hard drive case with a USB connection, for about $170.Very happy overall with this experience and will definitely bring my new Macbook back when next the service call strikes.
I write for a living, and without my computer I likely would be out of a job. Suddenly last Tuesday night (1/9/19) in the midst of writing a column , my computer shut down. I tried everything I knew to do, and even called friends technologically savvier than I, certain that one of them had to know how to get my computer back working. But, not one of them did.I then called AppleCare Support (I purchased their protection plan) praying that a brilliant and experienced agent would answer my call and get my computer working again. But the agent couldnt and told me that the computer would have to be sent to one of Apples repair sites. He expected it would be back in my hands within a week. After that I really lost it. I was screaming and crying and felt oh-so helpless .Yet I was able to call a friend who in the past had lent me her lap top while she worked on her desk top.But this time there was hitch. She would be away for 13 days and needed to take the lap top her with her.But she had an idea. She recently had one of her computers repaired at a store in Brooklyn, and she was stunned. Stunned by every aspect of the store from its comfortable, den-like design and atmosphere to the dispenser of free jelly beans. And she couldnt stop praising each and every employee she came in contact with, who treated her, she said, oh-so saintly. She was even more effusive about the work done on her computer, which she said described as nonpareil. Back from The Mac Support Store, she said her ten-year- old computer looked brand spanking new.And when she heard that my computer had died, she immediatelycalled that store to find out if they rented computers, specifically the model I use, the 13 inch MacBook. The answer to both questions was yes.The next day I went to the store.and immediately sensed that this indeed a special place and that everything Collette said about The Mac Support Store was true.To get from apartment on the Upper West Side of Manhattan toThe Mac Support Store in Gowanus, Brooklyn I had to take three subways.. But you know what? It didnt take that long to get there and it was well worth the trip.Especially, for the free jelly beans.
I brought my Mac in to be repaired and was immediately impressed by the friendliness of the staff. They diagnosed the problem and gave me a reasonable quote to repair it.The turn a round was quick and the repair was perfect. I would definitely recommend this business.
Nobody likes to deal with a crashed computer. Theres the dread that so much might be lost, that the whole thing will have to be replaced, that a fortunes ransom will have to be paid for who-know-what to get done.It was with those fearsI carried my busted iMac into the MacSupport Store. But those worries were dispelled within a matter of minutes. There was a positive, supportive vibe, followed by a reasonably priced diagnosis, and then a very reasonably priced overhaul.Im back at it, nothing lost but a few replaceable old programs, all data intact, with an iMac that runs better than when I bought it.I highly recommend these nice people to you.
I made the mistake of clicking on an update for the Mac OS to Catalina and my computer froze. I took it ino the Mac Support Store and it cost me over $200 to get my iMac back and working. My problem is not with Jeff who did the repairs, its with Apple for letting it happen. Ive only owned a Mac computer and the Mac Support Store is the only place Ive gone to for repairs, but I have my doubts if I will ever buy another Apple product.
These guys have an impressive operation but it is a rip off. They charged me $29 for a diagnostic and then quoted me just under $700 to repair my computer, claiming the logic board was fried.I took it to The Rossmann Repair Group in the East Village for a second opinion, and they opened up my computer on the spot, wiped some rust off a connector and it was as good as new. And it was free.Do not go to this place. They will take your money.UPDATE: I received a Cease & Desist letter requesting I take this post down. Nothing about this review is false and I will not be bullied into removing it.
I was traveling and my hard-disk and graphics processor failed, so my computer was no longer getting through the startup sequence. I brought it in and the staff, particularly Judi, was tremendously helpful, from beginning to end. Judi clearly knew her stuff and was able to explain how the hardware was malfunctioning, what my options were, and how I could salvage what was still functioning while still getting the most amount of my data preserved. She didnt try to sell me on anything that wasnt necessary and in fact recommended ways I could upgrade the computer on my own. What I appreciated most about the process was their commitment to refurbishing existing machines instead of just recommending a new or replacement computer. They ended up transferring all my data to their server, replacing the hard-disk, and leaving me the option of mailing them an external drive to download the files once I got the graphics processor fixed (under repair extension warranty, which saved some money). All in all, I cant recommend this place enough.
Had some strange issues with their online portal but was always helped promptly over the phone. The email alerts are also timely and helpful. I would pop in here not just for assistance but to see the eclectic decor. Its a really well done mom and pop shop with the customer service of a corporate Juggernaut.
My macbook pro was crashing and corrupted my OS. They helped me replace the OS and then found an apple recall on my macbook pro. They sent off my macbook to apple to be repaired (apple repaired it for free because of the recall). They were friendly, honest, and very helpful. I would definitely recommend them to anyone with mac issues. :)
I brought in an old 2010 Macbook Pro that had been through the wars so to speak to see how bad off it was, and if it would be worth repairing. As I suspected, the logic board was fried along with a host of other problems. The estimate to fix it was $1200.Honestly I was upset that they presented me with the estimate with no advice that I would be better off buying a mint condition used 2010 MBP for $500 on craigslist.Thankfully I was at least knowledgeable enough to know that putting $1200 into 2010 MBP is foolish (no upgrades mind you, just to get it back to original working order) -- but I left feeling like they are a bunch of rapacious money grabbers, and wondering if they would have accepted my $1200 without a word of caution or advice. What about all the people who go there with no technical knowledge and rely on The Mac support Store to steer them in the right direction? Do they regularly hand out ruinous advice to unsuspecting customers? Not nice in my estimation. Im sure its legal, but it isnt ethical. As to their technical expertise, their reputation is excellent, and I have no reason to doubt it.3 stars.
Diagnosed my laptop for free, emailed me the results/invoice the next day. Said I needed an expensive logic board replacement, which I did, but when I called and asked if a cheaper workaround was possible, they made it work for me. Parts were a little marked up, but considering the diagnostic was free and the service was quick, zero complaints.
I really cant say enough good things about the Mac Support Store. My 2010 iMac died suddenly without having important unfinished work backed up. Turned out to be a very serious issue but from the get go these guys were super efficient and comunicated daily with me in a laymans language which filled me with confidence. It was gonna be an expensive job but again Judi was super patient and came up with a number of cost cutting options which made it possible for me to both save my data and yet bring the iMac back to life at a price I could afford and justify.Upon collection the team went above and beyond to make sure I was all set up and functioning 100% before leaving the store. The owner Jeff spent the best part of two hours with me configuring this and that and getting everything to network properly. He went above and beyond what hed been paid for which for me spoke volumes. This is a company that pays incredible attention to customer care and satisfaction.Thank you Jeff, Judith and Miguel for a great job all around :)
The Mac Support Store is NOT an authorized Apple service provider therefore, they are NOT certified technicians who can make replacements with new Apple parts! They charged me for a new Macbook Air battery but installed a used defective battery. After a month of issues with the battery, I took my laptop directly to Apple. Apple could not service my laptop because they cannot accept unauthorized parts. The battery installed was in used condition, the serial number had been blacked out and the surface of the battery looked different(looked like some kind of surface had been attached on top of the battery because it has bubbles). If I had not asked for my original battery returned, I would never been able to obtain a new Apple battery replacement!
For those who have a budget and just want a quick and painless service, 100% recommend. But once you start asking technical questions to get the real truth, apart from preventing you from talking to the technicians, be prepared for the rolling eyes and making faces to coworkers routine from the front desk clerk who doesnt actually know the answer. My advice: get a second opinion before spending your money. They can get your stuff fixed, but at a cost that you dont necessarily have to spend, and they wont be bothered to tell you that unless after being pushed and having given the routine above.
I brought in my MacBook Pro which I had had for 5 years and was waiting for it to finally kick the bucket. Well, I couldnt get a screen to come on, though the keyboard caps lock was lighting up, so I knew the chances were near aught that it could be salvaged for a reasonable amount of $. While waiting (for 5 minutes) for assistance, I looked around at what was available in the store and saw some refurbished models. Ultimately, it took longer than they said it would to get back to me that the Pro was history (not worth putting money into it), as the testing took about 3 days and I made about 4 phone calls. I did, however, purchase a refurbished Air for a decent price and they took the time to explain its virtues and reason it was a reasonable risk. I found the staff to be helpful and I hope I made a good choice buying a refurbished Air, since I was not in the position to buy new. Didnt give 5 stars only because the system check took so long, and I wondered whether they couldnt tell me earlier that it would probably be unsalvageable. I like the low key atmosphere, though, and my gut says they are on top of their game.
I have been there twice, once for a new battery and once to fix some old external hard drives.both times the staff were extremely pleasant and efficient.both times the turnaround was within the same day.no complaints whatsoever.i will go there again.oh also they have etrash and battery recycling and stuff, which is cool.
Horrible service!!!! I am so disappointed!!!!!!! I went there with my iMac. After few days they said it was fixed. I got home to discover that computer had exactly same problem as before. They asked me to bring the computer again which I did. I was waiting quite a while ( computer is my work tool so it is really important for me to have it back quickly) and then I call them to see how much longer it would take. The gentleman on the phone said they can’t order a new part because they don’t have my cc number . I don’t know why no one called me to let me know about it. Total cost repair they asked for was $800! Because all of this mess they gave me $200 off . The first time I brought my computer to them was August 11 2018! I got it back on September 12. A Month!!!!!Well but this is not over! Finally I got back my computer and ......IT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN!!!!!!!!When I called them I heard : bring the computer to us! The lady said they will put my old video card and give me back my money! They didn’t even give me back my own computer power cord how I can be sure they will put the same video cart!!!!I lost one moth. I am super late with my own work!!! And I still don’t have a good computer!!!!!! If I knew I would just buy a new machine !!!!!!!Every time I was going there I had to pay for transportation since I don’t have my own car and I live far. I tried to talk to the owner but he didn’t wanted to talk to me. Now in order to get some of my money back I have to lose another few days to get my computer there and then bring it back and again pay for transportation from my own pocket ( they don’t want to pay for taxi)I would never recommend this place to any one. Next time I will make sure I will check if the place has Apple license.I can’t afford to lose more time and money and not be sure if they going to fix it!
This is my go-to place for repair and sales. It’s family-run, fast, friendly, and they understand that I’m on a budget. There’s no tech-shaming here! I never feel like I’m being sold something I don’t need. Over the years they’ve done data recoveries and a repair or two and I’ve never had an issue with the performance afterward or the price.
Great local MAC support tech store. Had my frozen 2TB iMAC wiped clean, all my data files and folders migrated/restored like new and OS upgraded - all within 2.5 business days. Very knowledgeable staff advice throughout entire process. My go-to MAC support solution from now on....Thanks MSS!
Had some communication issues with the repair and I wasnt happy that some files were lost in restoration. I had an issue with duplicate emails being sent and requested that one address be deleted, 2 were to be kept and instead 2 were deleted. Was able to get some stuff from backup but it was a nuisance.
Terrible store, these people are dishonest liars. I brought my old macbook to them and they did all kind of underhanded things to me. They even tried to convince me I had a virus on my mac among other things that were not the problem and when I posted a review some time ago they threatened me with fines that if I didnt pay they would pursue legal action and drag me to court, as well as report me to the credit bureaus fraudulently. They try to use their shady user agreement to make this happen to reviewers they dont like and if you dont believe me look at their reviews on yelp, the negative ones. Their user agreement even has the 3,500 dollar fine towards the end of the paragraph. I say beware of these folks and do not do business with them. Do not waste your time because they dont seem qualified to fix computers and are shady.
Dear Jeff and Judi, You are definitely our go-to for help with our MacBook Pro. From transferring digital information to diagnostics, your team works efficiently and takes the time to check in after the service is over. In all our interactions, youve been so helpful and your location in Park Slope/Gowanus makes it easy for us to connect. Dalienne Majors & James Kent
I was fortunate that my wife discovered The Mac Support Store. She felt guilty that inadvertently she had put two DVDs into the Video Player in my 27 I Mac, she wanted to make sure it was repaired properly. Fortunately, they are in Brooklyn and I brought them the Mac to retrieve the DVDs. Unfortunately, they had to replace the damaged video player. They were very professional, the cost was reasonable (half what it cost my wife at the the Apple store for the same repair) and my computer is whole again. I recommend them highly.
Power supply for my Macbook burned out at the end of the day and these fine folks were able to sell me a brand new one within minutes! Saved my life! (Im sooooooo addicted to my Macbook LOL!!!!) Seriously though, these folks were super friendly and helpful. If you need replacement accessories in a pinch, give them a call, they probably have it.
Ive used them a few times. The last time will be the last. They simply seem to be uninterested in customer service and have a youre doing them a favor mentality. Jeff ... do better. I reached out a couple of times and you never responded. Shame.Update to the above review. I received a cease and desist letter from them which threatened legal action. Nothing inaccurate was posted in my original review. Want to warn people about doing business with them.
Quick, fast, efficient!Had a problem with my iMac OS after trying to update and couldnt start my computer. Had me up and running again in days. So happy to have them in my neighborhood and another option for support than the Apple stores, which are much further away.
Right off the bat i have to say that the ONLY negative part of my experiencew/this business was the hassle finding parking. its located in the gowanusindustrial zone and there isnt much parking for love or money. since i wascoming over the hill from ditmas park i HAD to drive and its tiresome driving around for 30 mins looking for a space. but i found 1 both trips.the staff i interacted with were easygoing & professional. miguel at thecounter is very sweet & patient and judy who did my actual rundown seemsto know her stuff. did they solve my problem? yes & no. they gave me amenu of selections but neglected to suggest 1 possibility which is thati could purchase a part myself & have them install it(the harddrive).perhaps it never ocurred to them. but their diagnostic wasfree & accurate and they are the soul of courtesy and helpfulness.i recommend this business to any and all w/mac woes. and they didntpressure me to buy a new computer as other places i wont mention(APPLE) might have. continued success to them.franz
Miguel the tech did me right!!!I cant say enough good things about my interaction with Miguel. I am a beta tester for a third party software written for the iPhone which is not yet available on iTunes. The software was glitchy and I was unable to re-install it on my iPhone. Miguel spent about 20 minutes helping me out, free of charge! He made no sale! And he could have easily charged me for his consultation, but he didnt. Finally, after his diligent effort, Miguel re-installed the program and thanks to him, it now functions properly!Without this software, an ear training program, I was unable to practice on my 2 hour daily commute. Thanks to Miguel my practice regimen has been resuscitated! This act of selfless kindness has enhanced my life immeasurably.Thank you Miguel!!!!
My Macbook had the problem of the Apple logo stuck on Log in.They had my computer running within 2 days, no waiting in line, no pushy sales people, and felt that they genuinely cared about giving quality repair and service. There is no other mac store that i go to.Thank you Mac Support Store
Reconditioned 24 iMac is PERFECT as was everything about the experience of buying it. I absolutely love this iMac which works like it was brand new all up to date with OS, and the price cant be beat especially considering that it comes loaded with all the best software.
My desktop had become an issue where, on start up, the screen would turn black, I couldnt do anything except move the mouse around. Jeffrey and Judith found the source of the problem and fixed it fast and affordably! Its great having them in them close by cause otherwise Id have to go into the city.
The Mac Support store folks:1. answered the telephone immediately2. made an appointment for me to suit me3. fixed the problem in the time promised4. wrote a diagnostic report, sent it to me, and talked overthe issues when I picked up my computer...5. 100% successful experience
Called to see if these guys had/would sell me a part i needed for my macbook computer (torn connection cable)At first the guy said he would see if they have the part only to get back on the line telling me that the cable (that I had unplugged and was holding in my hand) is soldered to other parts and cant be replaced alone and so I would need to bring computer in and have them replace a series of things... um yeah thats a straight faced lie trying to get me to pay 350$ for a 8$ cable replacement (ebay price of the cable) and when i informed him that his intel was wrong he changed tune and just dismissed the issue of his lie and said yeah we dont sell parts only - why not say so in first place? cos theyre looking to take you on a ride ...stay away

2022-03-23Judi and the team were great. My old MacBook Air was in its last legs and like Frankenstein they have reanimated it less the fear of fire and pursuit by angry mob. Now I can rest easy knowing that my Apple experience will continue drama free till I can go all in on the next generation of laptops. Thanks Mac Support Store!!!

2022-04-12Thank you Mac Support Store for your help. The convenience of the shop is a plus for us, since we are in the same building, but the real plus was the transparent communication. Every step of the repair process Mac Support Store has been there to answer our questions and to help us with our needs while our users computer was in for repair. Brava to Judi and the team.

2022-04-13This place is a gem. Judi helped me navigate a stressful situation and confront the end of my laptops life. She was patient and clear in her communication and presented options. Flawless service.

2022-05-26Thanks to friendly and professional staff Judi. I was able to have my MacBook Pro completely repaired at a lower cost than an Apple service center.

2022-01-16It’s almost impossible to put into words the gifts of expertise and no nonsense professionalism that the Mac Store has provided me. After being routed by the totally booked up Genius Bar to a hipster Mac repair shop in Williamsburg I was told my Mac Book Pro was not worth saving - the motherboard had failed. Trouble was I run a version of protools that is not compatible with the newer Mac Book Pro models . And to make matters worse, I was in the middle of a huge project / the learning curve for the updated protools and the expense would have set me back a year. I took my Mac Book Pro to the Mac Support Store - $323.00 and about 8 days later and I was up and running again. And better and faster than ever. And with no attitude. Phew - I love you Mac Support Store!!!

2021-11-28I had a mixed, though mostly positive experience with the Mac Support Store. I knew I wanted to replace a laptop battery, which wasnt dead but had declined in efficiency after almost four years of frequent use. The Mac Support Store was highly recommended by a tech friend who knows her stuff, so I contacted them. On their site, it appeared impossible to get an estimate to replace the battery; I had to go through the multi day process of having the computer evaluated (with a charge if I declined repairs) and then the replacement. When I did drop the laptop off with Judi (she was pleasant and listened to my thoughts on what I wanted and didnt want done) she did mention a battery replacement cost more expensive than others Id seen online. But I wasnt inclined to quibble. Given the amount of time already invested in bringing the computer to them, I wouldnt really be saving money taking it somewhere else. And if they did superior work, then it would be worth it.Their current covid protocol is to wait outside after texting that we are outside. When I dropped the computer off, that went quickly. But I was surprised that my wait to pick up the laptop was almost 20 minutes, in the November chill...but more surprising that there wasnt even a text response from them until 15 minutes. I took note of the time, since it was nippy out. Im all for covid protocols, though this service might not work so well during mid winter. Requiring vaccines and masks might be more customer friendly. The estimate for the battery was exactly what Judi had guessed...though the late online quote was tied to a $99 anti-virus regime which I should have declined, since Ive had no problems with viruses and use my own scanners. But again, that was my choice. They didnt trick me...though it wasnt listed as a separate estimate but was tied to the battery replacement estimate. The replaced battery does hold a charge longer. Doesnt feel quite as long as the original...but Im not an engineer, so cant quantify it.Mostly, I think the Mac Support Store might be a very good option for someone with undiagnosed computer problems. Other reviews outline great experiences. But for someone who knows they simply want to have a battery replaced, it was difficult to get an immediate estimate, took four days from contact until I had the computer back, and seemed moderately more expensive. I would likely use them for a serious, undiagnosed problem, but not for something like replacing a battery.

2021-11-22I don’t understand how this place works: you book an appointment, they confirm with a text and then when you text/email questions, they go dark. They say they need 2 days to “run diagnostics” for an obviously dead 7 year old battery, yet Apple store did diagnostics in less than 10 minutes. I have an appointment today and they haven’t answered any of my texts or emails about price of battery replacement or time frame. They keep in sending me texts and emails and then not responding to my inquiries. They finally texted shortly before my appointment to say it would cost $139 to replace the battery and would not say how long it would take. The quote is $10 more than what a real Apple store was going to charge me. The other reviews I’ve read have told stories of them “finding “ other problems, real or imagined, and then charging hundreds of dollars to fix. Other reviewers have also received “cease and desist” letters demanding they remove their reviews; I look forward to receiving mine.Frustrated, I found a YouTube video that showed how to swap a battery in a MacBook Air takes about 6 minutes, so I ordered a replacement battery and called it a day.

2021-04-08This is your dream store if you are a mac lover. Gone are the days when you felt helpless if something went wrong with your trusted mac. And as Apple customer service has declined over the last ten years you need someone in your corner. The Mac Support Store is your savior. The unassuming storefront opens up to reveal a veritable Mac Museum. The moment you walk in and see all the older Macs on proud display you know you are home. My fourteen year old son is a Mac head. I bought him an SE online, yes, an SE, and he was thrilled to see it on his desk. But alas, it wouldnt boot up. I took it to the Mac Support Store and they graciously took her in. I quickly received an estimate and I kind of winced at the price. Like all of us, I was hoping for a quick and cheap fix. It was not to be. The power supply was broken. I went online and found replacements for around $50. Should I attempt to just replace it myself? I mulled it over for a few days and then finally accepted the work order. At least I know the work will be done right at the shop. When I went to pick up the SE I discovered the lovely woman from drop-off with my SE and a bag full of parts, floppys, manuals, a veritable goodie bag of old mac things. She explained that they had basically rebuilt the entire system even swapping out the original faceplate to include dual floppy disc portals making the unit infinitely more useful for a fourteen year old enthusiast. My son opened the refurbished SE on his birthday and we all delighted at the home screen and new/old sounds coming from the ancient machine. And I had to accept that my grumpy miserly middle-aged self was finally starting to learn to trust people and was so much better off for it. Do not hesitate to contact the Mac Support Store, they are a life-saver.

2022-04-14Super prompt and friendly - they also gave a few options to solve my issue which I really appreciate. They will be my go to
