This was such a waste of time. As per previous commenters - I was there during advertised hours and made the trek all the way up, only to find the doors locked. What a joke. Too bad since it would have been interesting/enjoyable to learn more about Malcolm.

Plus 10 stars for the Shabazz family, minus 5 stars because the memorial center hasn’t been open as posted on the website. Still, worth the 2 trips I’ve made (just pay your respects with a moment of silence).
I went with my friend Kat yesterday. We had an amazing experience the energy was strong in the ballroom. We learned a lot about Malcolms vision and dedication!
See the ballroom where Malcolm X got shot, and thats about it. There are som plaques around the place with some texts on, but overall not too heavy on information. It was worth seeing though.Also, afterwards, walk downtown past 110th street to get a feel of Harlem.

Was very disappointed coming from the BX. To find out its temporarily closed. The website needs to be updated because it clearly says its open.

First time being there and also extremely enjoyed the ceremony the powerful energy in the building.
We are waiting on the hall since 1 hour but its closed and supposed to be opened! Thank you for the memory of the Shabbaz family ! We appreciate and I think them too ! Very disappointed especially when we made an hour of trip with children !
Visiting from the UK, came all the way here to find the doors locked and management had apparently left the building nearly two hours prior to closure time.
I love the history of the place& Respect
Went by yesterday, a Wednesday at 2:45 and the doors at street front were locked. :)

2019-12-07Feeling honored to have been able to visit on yesterday! Yes, they are open. You have to go up to the second set of double doors and the nicest security guard will let you in. They are in the process of remodeling for upcoming events, so your patience and even donations I’m sure will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the visit!

2020-03-13The Malcolm X Shabazz Memorial is not a museumIts a place of grief and a place of hope, a place about beauty and a place about terror, and all the ways to fight it.Dont expect any animation, dont expect any show here. This is a quiet place, almost a place of worship - the upstairs space is occasionally used as a mosque.The Shabazz Memorial is a powerful place where one can feel the soul of Brother Malcolm and the pain he endured to help get us all where we are.At the exact spot Malcolm X was standing when he died, now stands an elegy of him, a well crafted bronze statue.I left flowers at his feet, bowed, and sat there silently for a while.Yes. You can bring flowers.

2015-05-18That was one of the most historical and uplifting exhibit and memorial I have ever seen. It was the high point of my New York visit. Being from Memphis Tn and my first trip to NYC it was an awesome experience. I will never forget the great feeling of walking in the place where Malcolm X spoke and walked. I love Harlem and NYC. THANKS

2017-07-28Assalamu alaykum,We are a French family relocated in Maryland since almost 3 years. We came to New York in vacation for few days.On Tuesday July 25th we came at 5 pm the center was closed.In your website there were two different opening hours and different opening days. MONDAY to FRIDAY 10 to 5 pm (At the bottom of the main page) and TUESDAY to FRIDAY 11 to 6 pm (Plan your visit).A sign in the center stated 10 to 4 pm TUESDAY to THURSDAY.No accurate information just about opening days and hours!Nethermind, on Wednesday I called someone asked me how many people we are, our planning time of visit and said he will make sure someone will be there on Thursday at that time. When we arrived at around 1pm the center was closed again! There were two men for repairing.I understand you might have a shortage of staff but you could at least give accurate information about days and times for visit. If we need to make an appointment during your availabilities that is fine but respect your words!We were REALLY disappointed by such lack of professionalism and of organization. We plan to visit the African American museum in DC but it will not be the same. We wanted to stand where Malcolm X was killed, see the ballroom and remember him.I hope you will fix these issues that is really a shame.

2016-03-09Good morning.Like everyone else in the world. I have an open heart and mind to the Work and Legacies of Sir. Malcolm X and his dear wife Dr Betty Shabazz. I had the pleasure of attending the commemorative ceremony on 2-21-2016. My prayers continually go up to God concerning the family and those they love. Sometimes it seems as if some.people expect them to be stoic and stiff fleshed. Theyre just people, who had parents that they love and miss so much. We love you! May God bless them.
