Located in a beautiful building in Manhattan this museum has some of the best pieces of modern art. I was a student at the time when I visited and I am glad that I had my student card on me to get a discount. As many other museums I usually pay attention to resting areas such as restrooms!, cafe and seating areas for this one I give them a 5 star. although the cafe and seating area was busy but I managed!
Our teenage daughter wanted to visit here and bobs if us were disappointed. The differing levels took some navigating but in the end we hit round the whole place having seen some classic, impressive and out there artworks. Definitely worth a visit but spare yourself at least 2 hours for a quick visit.
Not worth 25$ and not comparable to European modern art museums such as Tate Modern or Centre Pompidou which are also much more affordable / partially free.Out of 6 floors, only 4 had open exhibitions. On 2 floors there were museum shops and creative rooms, and very few artworks. A few rooms were half empty (not under maintenance, just with empty space on walls).Collections were not curated logically, chronologically or by theme. Confusing room architecture without any advice on how and where to start. Visitors had to cross some rooms multiple times to see all the artworks.Overall very disappointing and not worth the hype or the money.Pros: restrooms were clean, there were enough chairs and banks to sit.
Im an artist, so museums are my thing! Every famous painter on the world is on display here. Five floors of super-spreader events. Wear a mask to admire some of my favorites... Water Lillies and Starry Night.. The museum doesnt require masks, yet Manhattan was on a moderate alert for COVID-19.Wonderful gift shop. Cafe for food and drinks. Restrooms available throughout the museum.
Its a surprisingly quiet museum. Went on a Saturday afternoon and none of the exhibits felt like it was packed with people. Also, I think the art is rather more thought provoking and less of a shock of the senses. Its quiet but contemplative. So I think its not appealing for people that are looking for Instagram moments. But really great for people that are looking for a chance to ponder about a piece of work.
Visiting the MoMA is an incredible experience. You may enjoy this museum at your own speed, be it fast (approx 2 hours) or much longer depending on how much time you have.I highly recommend to purchase the tickets online even if you are literally in front of the museum. It saves you the waiting line to purchase them inside. There are some beautiful pieces of Picasso, Van Gough, Pollock and many more to see.
My recommendation is you start at the top, the 5th floor, then work your way down. Because the top floor has the majority of the prized pieces of art, while the lower you go it becomes more recent art, some of which is baffling in its placement in the museum. Some are interesting, some less worth your time.Still, more than worth it to see paintings like “The Starry Night” by Vincent van Gogh.
Big museum you could easily spend a day. I certainly like the top floor themes best. As it progressed it got more modern and contemporary which isnt the art I like.Ocerally great price and must visit. So many rare pieces are housed here which I didnt know like Salvador Dali, Monet and Van Gogh!
Great museum with great collections of modern art.The Starry Night of Van Gogh is one of the most famous art works here, and there are lots of post-impression art works from 19th century to modern arts. There are always many exhibitions here as well, and all of them are usually included in the 25 USD ticket. For students, the price is 14 USD.A recommended museum that you can spend your whole day with great artworks!
The Museum of Modern Art is an art museum located in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, on 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. It plays a major role in developing and collecting modern art, and is often identified as one of the largest and most influential museums of modern art in the world.
I always enjoy museum visits and definitely wanted to check out the Matisse and Monet collections. Since I couldn’t spend as much time as I wanted here, I did a speed through of all floors except one and spoke with friendly attendants during the visit that helped me navigate.I recommend buying your tickets online and just having the email to scan in. I avoided the lines this way on a Friday for an afternoon visit. Also, bonus points for clean restrooms!
One of my favorite NYC museums and the recent expansion has provided more natural light, more views of the neighborhood and an entire other wing to showcase their impressive collection. More than just a museum with famous paintings, MoMA is more of a cultural timeline via art, and now seems to encompass film, sound, multimedia throughout, giving each gallery a lively feel.
Beautiful museum with a full collection of amazing artist. I would be remiss if I didnt mention Starry Night. Its the only reason I actually wanted to go. Most modern art is interesting but to see such a historical and significant piece is such an experience. If you want to see starry night, its on the fifth floor. Its great, if you like modern art, the rest of the museum is also great.
-There’s a just the right amount of security where there’s not too much where you feel overwhelmed and not to little to feel unsafe. -There are many worker helping everyone out to get to where they want to be.- The way you travel within each floor also seems endless full of art.-This is definitely the place you can keep going to and there’s always something new.
IF you like modern art, this is the place for you. The service was awesome; there has been security everywhere, and the museum was super clean. If you DO NOT LIKE modern art (like me and my husband) do not go there. Its not worth it.I gave 5 starts because the Museum was nice and clean and the staff was friendly.
It was a pretty cool museum. Theyve 5 floors with several exhibitions on each one, so it can take a lot of time to walk through the entire museum, so be sure to visit with time ( or choose what floors youd like to see on the maps on-site). There are tons of interesting artwork from a lot of different artists, from sculptures to paintings. Theres also a floor with famous paintings from well known artists such as Van Gogh ( here you can find the Starry Night), Klimt, OKeeffe, Magritte, Pollock, Warhol, Monet and plenty of others, which I found particularly amazing. The museum store is also pretty cool, theyve a lot of books and art themed souvenirs.
We went to MOMA after having lived in NY/NJ area for more than 5 years. I regret not having been to the museum soon but better later than never. I loved my entire experience at the museum. The staff member who checked our ticket was very helpful and advised us to start from the top most floor (which is the oldest time period paintings including Van Gogh and Picasso) and work our way down to some of the more recent work.We also got lucky and found a parking spot right outside the museum when we went on a winter Sat afternoon around 3PM.
It takes about 4 hours to look through the whole collection with breaks in between and some lunch. We got the free tickets since we are Columbia students. The collection boasts of famous pieces from artists including Rothko, Jackson pollock, the water lilies from Claude Monet and finally starry nights by Van Gogh. it is a treat to watch the world from the perspective of the impressionists and the abstract expressionist. We started at the fifth floor by watching the collection from 1880’s - 1940’s, which is the most extensive collection. It is ideal to start from the top so one can get enough time to see the classics before moving on to the work by recent artists.
What a fantastique Museum, they did it all perfect! I was able to see the work of all my favourite artists. Warning: you could get emotional if you´re a sensitive person. 😏Like everywhere in New York, again, an enormous waiting line in the morning. So we went back in the afternoon.Piece of advice for the tourists: after 3PM there are almost no waiting lines anymore. Also not for Natural Histor of Guggenheim or WTC etc. 😉
Great museum, I could spend hours here! It is a little overwhelming so just start with the highlighted exhibitions or go straight to the top floor and work your way down. If you are a student, theres great discounts so bring your ID.! Very cool museum gift shop underneath
Wonderful gift shop(not expensive), and the top two floors are filled with historical paintings that are absolutely breathtaking to see in person. The only downside is how many people are there crowding everywhere, so it is hard to really get around and see paintings without people blocking you.
Housed some of the legendary paintings ever made. Starry night, Dance and music, etc. One thing they dont tell u though, if this is ur first time in the museum and wanted to have an enjoyable chill day and see everything, allow some 4 hours or so. Ive only been there for 2 hrs and too bad havent seen all.
MoMA is located next to the main street, convenient to visit. It’s enormous; I spent 2 hours on the 2nd floor. There are six floors with different timelines of Modern art. Mask is required. This place is fantastic with many exhibitions and artworks such as the famous painting by Vincent van Gogh, The Starry Night. Since it is a Museum of Modern Art, it exhibits artworks by inspiring artists with modern techniques. Photography with flash is not allowed. The security guards are everywhere, nothing to worry about. The admission fee is affordable with an excellent design on the ticket.
Its amazing to be in one building with so many beautiful works. It was a great experience from start to finish the staff are super friendly and helpful. Hint if you go early start on the 5th floor and see some of the major pieces without the crowds and work your way down
3rd or fourth time visiting and just as glad I came as always. They do an amazing job of curating and I really appreciated a feature they had on architecture in South Asia as a response to decolonization.Moma is the only museum open on a tue so it was as busy as Ive seen it
It is always joyous to go to MOMA. We specifically went on the coldest Monday of the year to avoid crowds but there were busses filled with suburban students not so much wanting to see the art but to breathe the hallowed air of NYC.We saw several exhibits, including Picasso, Joaquín Torres-García and Piet Mondrian. Julian Schnable. Rufino Tamayos Animals, 1941 - painted the evening of the US joining into WW2.Take the elevator to the 5th floor. Then as you finish a section move on down until you are back on 1st.Fun fact: the 54th exit is directly in front of Sarah Jessica Parkers little shoe shop.
I love the way this museum is set up and curated. Eras and influence clearly defined. I always have a new appreciation for a special exhibit or artist. This time it was Cezanne and his many renditions of the same subject studied and captured in a passion play. Classics I crave to see again to examine technique, subtleties, messaging, and inspiration for innovation , simplicity, and complexity call me back. A perfect place for contemplation.
It’s a very cool museum and definitely worth spending a Saturday visiting. The Matisse Red Studio exhibit runs until September ‘22. It is was fascinating. I cannot, for the life of me, tell you what those little goopy things are the floor are or are supposed to represent - mutated slugs on the attack? Extra large versions of things you’d never want floating in a swimming pool? The Madonna and child deconstructed? Melted attempt at a life sized hungry hungry hippos game? I had not heard of Tarsila do Amaral, but found her painting ‘A lua’ to be absolutely magnificent.
The Moma is a must stop for the family when going to NYC. It’s wide open galleries make it easy to traverse even on busy days. Kids 12 and under a free so it is a good family deal. Probably not best for kids under the age of 10. While fun for the parents and older siblings they will get bored quickly. Quick tip. Bathrooms are in the back on the 4th floor and are a work of art as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to MoMA. I suggest booking your tickets in advance online. It is a simple enough process. I visited on a Saturday afternoon. I had no wait time and was greeted by a friendly, helpful staff who suggested I start on the 5th floor and work my way down. Impossible to see everything in one visit. Do not even attempt to do so. I highly recommend visiting MoMA.
Honestly one of the best museums in NYC. I highly suggest starting at the top floor and working your way down, it’s the way the exhibit was designed and those who did the opposite definitely didn’t appreciate the art as much as others. Overall the art is great, the atmosphere is unique and the diversity in works is unparalleled when compared to most other modern art museums around the globe.
The MOMA is the paragon destination in NYC. I couldnt think of a better way to spend a few hours. The museum provides a robust diversity of various mediums that provides engagements for many styles. Its packed with 5 levels (the 6th was closed) of various exhibits that highlight the illustrious history of art and its many contributors. I also wanted to buy everything in the gift shop.
A truly fantastic museum. Their art pieces start towards the end of the Impressionist Era which is my favorite so thats a big plus. Didnt even realize Starry Night was located here so when I saw it I was kind of blown away. The Water Lilies by Monet are also breathtaking.
🎨 MOMA is always awesome but needs you to spend a lot of time on. Definitely gonna go for the next several times.💰$0 for students that attend specific colleges in the city. (NYU/ Columbia are included. Not sure about Cornell/ Fordham/ NYIT/ etc.)🥾 normally spend 3+ hours here and walk 10k+ steps. Remember to wear comfortable shoes.
Great modern art museum with a huge variety of art (including some famous items), and types of media (paintings, photographs, videos, sculptures, architecture, etc...)Big enough to spend a whole day in but with small well organized exhibits you can see a handful of in even a short visit (I was only here for about two hours most recently)I especially liked the Gordon Parks photos, the large Monet paintings, and the futurist paintings.
Was finally able to visit the museum, which did not disappoint. There is great variety between the expositions on each floor. With a party of 4 it is recommended to make one of the visitors a MoMA member, that way you receive an iconic totebag and can visit again in the near future.
I know nothing about art, yet visiting this museum Im pretty sure I saw almost every painting Ive ever heard of..!A truly stunning collection, feels like a whos who of globally famous art.Toilet situation is less than ideal, with the only one seemingly being on the 2nd floor?
Great museum - great discount for students so make sure you take your student card! First two floors are more modern arts but the fifth floor is where all the old goodies are. Picasso, Van Gogh, Chagall, Monet, Munch, etc. You name it - all the big names are there. I wish I skipped right to the top floor to see all these arts because by the time I got to the top floor I was so exhausted that I didnt get to see all the arts. I would 100% go back in the future to revisit those pieces. They also have very nice gift shop with lots of fun souvenirs and gifts you can buy!
Huge art museum with something for everyone. There are well-known artists like Warhol, Dali, Jackson Pollock, Frida Kahlo, and more. There’s also a lot of stuff to enjoy by tons of other artists with a lot of mixed media pieces. You can spend an entire day here! They also have a really well stocked gift shop.
I enjoyed my visit here, the entry was fast and easy, staff are helpful with directions, there are many ticketing machine in the lobby so don’t need to wait in line to buy tickets which is very convenient. And of course the collection here is great, you’ll need a whole day to really go through them all.
This was definitely the best thing I did while in NYC. I was so engrossed in the experience that I didnt realize I had been there for 4 hours. Ihave never studied art or been interested in learning more about the artists. I just enjoy the experience of seeing the beautiful art.
Always an incredible time. Many of the cafes are still closed or limited due to COVID so something to keep in mind. Fridays at 5:30pm to 9pm at the Museum of Modern Art are free. I believe there’s also some special deals for native New Yorkers. The shop is super cool and always great to find something unique. I’ve been multiple times and there’s always something new and exciting to see!
Other the seeing Starry Night up close, the monet painting, and a painting by Edward Hopper there is not much else interesting to look at here. Everything else in the museum is tasteless modern art. Also the staff is rude, my friends split up and went to look for the auto mania exhibit when they asked an employee for directions they just told them that it was closed (it really was open on the second floor).
Definitely not a one day thing, needs multiple visit.I had a corporate pass, so the entry was free.Loved the art. Its an amazing way to understand and appreciate art.Audio guided tours are useful too. I preferred to read it myself.Mask is compulsory at all times.I liked it :)
My experience at MoMa was absolutely spectacular. Beautiful museum with beautiful art, that was organized intuitively with great accompanying descriptions (some of the best I’ve ever seen). I enjoyed the way sculpture and paintings were placed in nearby spaces. And I liked the point out by one description of the influence or African art on the Paris Avant-Garde.First museum I’ve seen that directly addressed that. The museum shop is also albeit expensive. I purchased a wonderful product design book and the square wave kinetic by sculptor Ivan Hall. The shop is great if you’re into home decor. 10/10, I would definitely return.
Beautiful pieces of my favorites artist, you can go now without a mask, I really enjoyed this place, you need to spend at least a morning complete also the shop and the cafeteria was amazing the food in the roof was a plus even with the cold air of lates day of April.
This museum is absolutely lovely!! During my visit today, the crowds were really low. Id recommend visiting this time of year (and when the weather is this cold) because some of the exhibits were completely empty.Id say this is the most unique art museum Ive ever been in. Im not well versed in appreciating art, but this was much more than the standard image of empty rooms with classical paintings hanging on the walls. I think it offers something interesting for people who arent traditional art fans
This is definitely an amazing museum, the staff are super helpful and everything by far, is worth checking out here. Give yourself at least a few hours, and make sure you give yourself time to sit down and take breaks. Take advantage of the cafe, or you could go outside to one of the vendors and grab a quick lunch and then go back in and continue your tour. You have all day to do it, it really is a great place. The views outside the windows are also just as amazing as some of the art inside. The art... there are classics, and there is modern. Make sure you find out whats there, so you dont miss anything. Theres a lot to see. Also the gift shop has affordable really cool merch. Enjoy.
A very interesting Musium with different galleries from different artists. There are tins of stuff to see, spread across around four floors.I ended up spending here around 2 and a half hours inside. Ticket was 25 dollars for adult.By know means I am an art expert, but I can still appreciate the good art and the history behind it.
Its all that you imagine it to be! You will find many famous artists there, from early 20th century on. Exhibitions are mostly chronological, starting from the 5th floor down (its backwards). The tickets costs $25. Theres free wifi in the building. You can scan the qr code at the entrance to download the map and access their website where you will find the audio recordings about certain paintings, so its useful to have the earphones. No wardrobe. There are restrooms and a cafe available. I had a great time. The place wasnt crowded but that is probably due to Covid. Vaccination proof is required.
I still can’t get over how trash this museum was. For like $25 as well!! It’s been 3 months and I still think about it. Super rude staff workers and uninspiring pieces of art. Literally only go if you absolutely have to see starry night. Honestly, when compared to actual modern art museum such as the Tate in London you can see why the MoMA is garbage.
Pros : on the 5th floor there are real master pieces (including Pollock, Picasso, Matisse or Van Gogh… ) o that you kinda have to pay to go to this museum if you like modern art… And 25$ are well spent for this but ..Cons : insipid architecture : only white cubes for insipid artworks.Example of what you can see in photos as « masterpiece of modern art » in the temporary exhibitions : a bed, a tv with a 80’s tv show on or even selfies of a woman with picture. Really amazing, isn’t it ?Bonus : people working there are far from polite. With a special mention for the cashier for tickets, never seen such a rude woman…
To art is to live.I can’t believe I finally got to go to the MOMA.Im speechless and humbled. This place was so overwhelmingly inspiring and I can’t believe I got to see my favorite painting of all time. “The Persistence of Memory” by the one and only: Salvador Dalí.It was so beautiful to be in a space with so much history and so many original life changing paintings in here by some of the best artists to ever exist.Again. I’m partial. The fact that I got to see my favorite surrealist work, that made me gasp. Gave me chills. Made my heart stop. Truly what art does: move you.I felt so inspired and motivated after my visit and just over the moon like a teenager in love heheDespite it being covid, they strictly enforced masks no ifs ands and buts. It was safer than being in Costco lol.If you haven’t been here, you need to come. It’s even better if you have a personal favorite to admire and see.Even if you don’t “art” there’s no way you can come in here and not feel some type of way. I got the creative jitters going after my visit and I will never forget how I felt after going here.Thank you MOMA for creating this space for such special art and amazing experience.Bottom line: come here if you need inspo. Never stop arting. Bring your kids. Get their creative juices flowing. If you’re older, keep creating, keep arting, keep inspiring.Ahhh. Such a great place. Still on cloud nine.
The museum was beautiful if you are into modern art. Personally I prefer the MET. But overall a nice place, easy to reach, affordable, and lots of nice places to take a pause and think about the different art pieces. The exhibitions are nicely organized. Make sure you visit an exhibit by Adrian Piper What will become of me. Dark but makes you wonder...
Do you like modern art? If yes you will enjoy it. A good experience though if you are less interested in art there is no doubt you will see 80% of the exhibits as nonsense or the emperors new clothes more than art. Persevere up to the top two floors for what I personally enjoyed the most.
Nice place with a lot to view, but had a horrible experience when I went over the summer. The security guards were extremely rude. 1 in particular, whos name escapes me, treated my family and myself horrible. Actually yelling across the exhibit room if he felt we were to close to a painting even though we stayed behind any lines. Although he would leave others alone for the same. He followed us to each room and made my family so uncomfortable that I eventually asked him his name. He became extremely aggressive and loud to the point that it gained the attention of ALL that were near by. I said that he was an employee there and wanted to see the name on his ID(which was covered). He then put it in my face to where I had to back away. I went to the main desk to inform them what had happened and how we were treated. They did not seem surprised at how security acted and apologized profusely. They were very nice and helpful and actually refunded our tickets. Although its a great place, we will never return because of how we were treated by security.
A wonderful museum, showing many important and well known as well as not so common pictures and funny installations and films. We spent a few interesting hours there. We thank MoMa for their helpfulness and generosity. After a booking accident they answered our email the same day and we will receive full refund.
There are a few undeniably excellent works of art here (like starry night and the persistence of memory) the downside is that you will be standing in line or fighting crowds just to see them. There are other great works here too if youre into modern art (Picasso etc) but if you dont like modern art you will probably hate this museum. Personally I preferred the Met, where it was easier to take some time to appreciate what you find.
So let me preface this by saying that I am not much of a fan of most modern art. YET, I thoroughly enjoyed this museum. They have a good variety of artists and styles from different time periods of the modern era. It seems that other Modern Art museums I have visited have too many similar pieces. Thus, thanks to the variety, this museum was much more enjoyable for someone who really isnt a fan.I also enjoyed the views from the museum of NYC.
Amazing museum with so many iconic pieces of amazing art, my mind is still reeling. I am no fan of modern art (ex. Pollock, stacked boxes, plain solid color) so was shocked at the volume of non-modern pieces. If you are more interested the classics (Monet, Picasso, Van Gogh) head to the top floor. Staff were unobtrusive and the art was nicely arranged with plenty of seating. Nice open spaces and plenty of restrooms. Great museum!
Ok , odd comment but there’s a place where you can eat in the museum. And this is probably the place I got the best meal in new york. Very cheap and an excellent salad. The sauce for the salad was chef’s kiss, there were some grenade, some blue cheese, some endive… It was a divine salad. I was so pleasantly surprise to find an actual salad with oil, vinegar and a ton of good stuff inside. It reminded me home…
One of those places in which a whole day could be spent in on a floor casually, or in a room seriously. We started on the 5th floor (the 1880-1940s), but then, barely had time to dip down to any of the others, because we got so lost in what we saw. We even KNOW we did not see all the rooms on that floor alone, now that we look back, such as Weimar citizens.Ive got to visit again, and keep going, next time Im in the city.
An absolute must for every art enthusiast or everyone who slightly enjoys art. So many amazing pieces by all different kinds of artists. Around every corner are so many amazing pieces and you are in awe everytime you see a new one.And to see Van Gogh‘s starry night so close in person is a lifetime dream come true!I am so happy to have been able to spend my day in New York in there.
Im not a big fan of modern art but I went to see the Van Gogh.I liked seeing the crowd and atmosphere here which is very different from what is seen at the Met. MoMA attracts a much younger, energetic, crowd which leads to a vibrant atmosphere not seen in many museums.
The Museum of Modern Art is a place you need to keep revisiting, since every single time is a different experience. MoMa have four floors of exhibitions 2 temporaries and 2 permanents where with your phone you can hear the histories behind the art while you look. Some of the artist you are please to see in Moma are: Vincent Van Gogh, Miró, Frida, Picasso, Jackson Pollock… don’t loose the opportunity to go, it will be worth it
A must see in NYC. It is impossible to see all the collections in one day, so make sure to plan in advance what to see and where to go. The museum plans and collections maps on the museum website are very helpful as well as the digital audio guides, also available online.Food at the many cafeterias is good although slightly overpriced as you would expect in a museum.I highly recommend visiting over weekdays in order to avoid too many crowds which make it really hard to enjoy and understand the pieces you’re interested in.In my opinion access to floors should be more restricted.
What does it mean for art to be modern? Its a collection of art from the 1940s onward with a dense collection of paintings, sculptures, multimedia, and other items. Even furniture can be considered art! It would take all day to thoroughly go through each room and appreciate the art, and they do have quite a few famous works on display. Its a classic place to visit in the heart of midtown.
Its NYC MoMA! Amazing collection & exhibits of paintings, sculptures, architecture and automobiles.Through Sep. 25, 2021, it maybe the only opportunity one can see so many Paul Cezanne Drawings in one place. Gallery after gallery I saw and sometimes felt Paul Cezannes painstaking efforts of studying and drawing one subject by drawing it over and over again.MoMA inspires everyone the artistic nature in us to see beyond what we see through our eyes.
This review is from the 2015 Bjork’s retrospective at the MoMA.After being a fan through the decades this out-of-this-world exhibition came upon. Hard to say which outfit or item was the best, but It proved marvelous. The retrospective displayed Bjork’s outfit from their covers, ranging from its 1993 DEBUT album to her lattest album BIOPHILIA as for 2015. She has released more albums ever since, though. If you peep at the pictures you’ll manage to see the iconic Swan Dress, ,which cause controversy during the 73rd Academy Awards on 2001 and was Bjork’s Vespertine album as well.Having been to the MoMA many times in the past it seemed as though this collection was a huge miss. They say Bjork declared she was taken aback when been offered the possibility of setting such installation claiming ‘ music can be hung to displayed’. Little did the world imagine her music was just the tip of the iceberg as her entire world is a piece of art.I hope people enjoy these pictures as I took them thinking one day I would bring them out and share them with fans around the world.
Not really a museum person myself but there was definitely some art here that caught my eye and had me contemplating life. I would recommend checking out the larger installations, theyre fun to walk around and look at from different angles. Theres plenty to check out here and its well worth the price of admission. Even the bathrooms are art! Theres also a nice restaurant on the 6th floor to take a break. Didnt try any of the food but the cold brew is solid.
I went here during Thanksgiving 2019This probably the museum I love the most in the States. As an art student, I love seeing all the works of modern art era. Picasso, Van Gogh, Dali, etc. They have everything from famous paintings to new installations. There are five floors with specific subject for you to scroll around. There is a big experiment room for both adults and children, many people came to look at the view and sketch from it. I first tried how to weave here, all employees are helpful and friendly. As a student from out of state, I got a discount. My friend goes to NYU got in for free. So be sure to take advantage of that if you are a student in New York. They have a big courtyard and cafe so you can look at the beautiful view, I think they have a building specifically for kids. Their store is in another bulidng, in front of the main entrance. Sadly that I didnt have enough time to take a look at it.Hopefully I will be able to come back one day and spend more time here.
Highly recommend for everyone to visit, tourists and native New Yorkers!5 floors of various styles of art from paintings to short films that any crowd can enjoy observing! Bathrooms found on every floor. Big plus for the nice outdoor space to sit and admire sculptures and garden. Theres a designated place to eat but I didnt try the food. Also, the security is great about enforcing mask compliance!Along with exciting new installments and famous contemporary art that everyones definitely seen - starry night! I didnt expect to see so much Pablo Picasso!I would only critique the lack of descriptions for certain artworks, sometimes its just a title and no background.Even if you cant visit the main exhibits, the public store is worth checking out!
Not massively into art so this was a bit lost on me. Lovely place to saunter around away from the madness and filth of NYC. Well air conditioned, pleasant, zero queues. I wasnt asked for my ticket and handed ours to 2 guys going in who may have been able to use them and safe 25 bucks. If youre an art fanatic, go!
This museum of modern art was exceptional. It hosted variety work of architecture, designs, paintings, sculptures and photography. It is definitely one of the best modern art museum out there if not the best. The Starry Night painting was really nice to see in person. The museum is very well divided and neat. Make your way to the outdoors if they are open.
I go to the Moma every year. This was my first time going since Covid restrictions have loosened. Love that the exhibits are constantly changing/updating. For anyone who is visiting for the first time, masks are still required, you cant get student discounts anymore and try to avoid bringing a big bag, b/c there is no coat/bag check and they make you wear it in the front of your body the entire time. Plan to spend at least 2 hours here.
My favorite museums in the whole world! I’ve been to museums in Italy, San Francisco, São Paulo, India, Chicago, Argentina… MoMA never disappoints! They current have The Persistence of Memories by Salvador Dali, which I have seen once before in São Paulo.I also saw Starry Night for the first time, which I loved! If you go, don’t forget to check out the Terrace Café up top and the store in the basement. Loved both so much.Highlights for me are Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Monet, Picasso, Frida, Wyeth, Klimt. They also have Jackson Pollock.I am not a history or art buff by any means, and you don’t have to be either to enjoy this museum. Each painting has a number, which allows you to read/listen to the audio online. It really helps you understand what you’re looking at if something catches your eye.Recommend going as soon as they open and start on the fifth floor.
I am not into art but this museum you cant do in one day you need a full day to see all of it , and it was so huge that i couldnt stand any more on my legs , we were kind of a trouble makers but it was so fun and there is the van Gogh famous painting .story nightAnd alot of picasso paintings too and he is really interesting you should give it a visit and you will take a lot of photos
Very Disappointed in this museum. WAY too many people for a Tuesday morning and it was like the crowds were out of control. Needed more docents to keep order and keep people flowing. It was clean and pretty well lit so that was good. And even though there was a line to get in, it moved fast. Would I go back there again. Probably not. If it was more orderly then I might consider it.
A modern art experience that I could not even begin to describe with words, the exhibit is curated in such a good way, there is a logical and visually pleasing flow to all the art works. Book tickets in advance so that I didn’t have to wait in line. The only minor flaw was that the wifi didn’t work so well, so I couldn’t access all the audio guide on the website.
Incredible experience. One of the most beautiful museums that I had the chance to visit. Breathtaking paintings with some of the most famous in the world from Rousseau, Picasso, Matisse and Van Gogh.I praise the diversity and beauty of collections, helpful staff, easy to walk through the collections although the plans are difficult to understand. The cafe at the 6th floor is amazing also! Great views and good products. This museum is so astonishing that the negative points can’t make it loose a star:- the lighting system doesn’t benefit to the artworks. They should really revise this as some paintings are very dark and it’s hard to see all details.- plans should be improved to help visitors achieving an even better experience.
Probably my favorite art museum in the US. An amazing collection of modern art with great exhibits of current artists work reflecting the pulse of ever-evolving culture as it happens. However, I did notice an error in a description of a piece of art in a current exhibit. Referring to the Tyrrhenian Sea as the Tynhenian Sea. Apparently the curators couldnt read the artists handwriting and/or he knew geography better than they do.
A truly inspiring place. It kind of reminds me of Tate Modern in London (without the gear location that one has). Its the place to see many masterpieces after the modern art weve seen tlnst of times in text books. It well organized and its now crowded thanks to less covid restrictions. They do offer students discount (didnt check for ID at the door). The outdoor section is still closed. Go with an open mind and get inspiration!
I loved visiting this museum - many works from some of my favorite artists were featured which was lovely to see.We arrived early and were parched from our walk and unfortunately we had to wait till 11 am for a cafe at the courtyard to open to purchase water- it was our only option to since all of the water fountains are currently closed and you can’t bring in any of your own water. It didn’t seem right that none of the gift shops or anywhere else had water available.
A little confusing to navigate but a SPECTACULAR art exhibit. I love how each floor is dedicated to different genres, times, and styles. I spent hours here, just exploring. Keep in mind the cafe here doesnt have normal food, more upper class dining and pricey as well. The gift shop had so many books to choose from and there were a bunch of interactive exhibits. Just go! Its worth it.
We visited during the Member hours on Mondays from 10.30am to 1pm. It was just enough time to see couple of exhibits and parts of permanent collection. We really enjoyed visiting Calder exhibit: Modern from the start and Degree Zero - Drawing at Midcentury. We loved learning about the Frankfurt Kitchen. Great visit!

2022-04-18My new favorite art museum. There’s about 6 levels and over 400+ rooms of art here 🤯 — from sculptures, paintings, to multi-media. I loved the versatility of projects and exhibits. They’re were all veneers present too. It was just an amazing experience. They have cafes (but no food/water are allowed in the museum), a bar, and stores. The whole establishment is so clean and tidy.We spent about 2hrs and didn’t even see everything. It’s easily a 4hrs adventure if you have to time to spare.I left inspired and refreshed. It was $25/per person and there is security.

2022-06-19Came here on a Saturday for my birthday weekend and had a great time! The museum is so spacious that even on a busy day, you have your own space to move around and admire the artwork. You dont realize how many exhibits there are from the outside! I absolutely loved being able to see Starry Night in person! Definitely one of the most anticipated paintings in there, so expect to wait a few minutes before seeing it up close and taking a photo!

2022-01-19Wonderful exhibition of art in its different times, you have 5 floors (for now) of a wide variety of works by great artists. It is easy to walk between the different rooms as they are all connected to each other. I recommend that you have time to walk in detail each one of them. It is an incredible experience.

2022-06-25An essential Manhattan destination. The recent renovations made it brighter. Supreme people watching. Temporary exhibitions tend to tell good stories. The greatest hits feel worn but provide a measure of comfort upon repeated viewing. One of the few trusted escapes out of midtown. Superb backdrop for catching up with friends. Perhaps too gramable for its own good.

2022-05-22It was worth it. Art works from amazing and highly recognized artists, hundreds of different paintings to see… I really enjoyed it, I can even say one of the best art museums in new York. In fact, to have gone there in covid times, we didn’t have to wait not even 5 minutes to enter. But I recommend to get your ticket online :)

2022-06-23Head straight to the top floor! Famous stuff is here, and it’s get more modern as you descend floors. Beautiful building, nice collections, but almost all the best one and so the crowds are concentrated at the top. Very expensive to enter compared to European equivalents (the uk museums are all free!)

2022-03-26Really enjoyed visiting! We were able to quickly enter the museum with ease. Exhibits there were very interesting, and seeing Starry Night was definitely the highlight of the museum. Overall, MoMA was not too busy and the online ticketing experience was very convenient.

2022-06-01I definitely have to start by saying I do not know/understand modern art so I should say that if you are looking for a nice museum while in NY where you can appreciate a lot of different art styles, definitely avoid this and go to the MET instead. As this (the MoMA) is such a world renowned museum, I was expecting so much more compared to just a few of the most famous pieces (last pictures). The only art worth seeing is located on the fifth floor and it can all be seen in less than an hour, with the rest of the museum not even taking another full hour. Most of it was of course modern art (first pictures) which is probably not what many people would expect to see unless you’re really into it. Overall it doesn’t look like the pieces are very well conserved (some pieces are stored inside glass cases but then the most precious ones can literally be touched if someone really tries to), lack of security screening at the entrance and rude staff throughout the whole museum didn’t make the experience any better.

2022-06-12A very well presented art museum. The works of so many immortalized artists from across time and the world are made available here to the public. The self-guided audio tour (available on your phone via a URL or scanned QR codes) is SO helpful. Navigation could be improved (between artworks and the layout on the webpages).Floor5 and Floor4 are your highlights. Easily you could spend 2.5 hours on just those two floors. Two cafes exist, as well as two gift shops. Toilets are very clean and accessible. Water fountains could be improved; the water pressure was low and you had to get close to the spout to consume water.

2022-05-14I must see if youre visiting New York on a rainy day. You can spend a good three or four hours here looking at the history of modern art and its progression. There are a lot of significant pieces here that change the history of modern Art. The building itself is a piece of art.
