Lunch with my family. Have not seen them in 10 years, may not see them again for ten years. We overstayed closing time, no one said a word to us, we were so busy catching up we didnt notice. No rush. They were so very kind, the food and service was amazing. I would recommend it to anyone. Cant wait to go back! Five stars, for sure.
My wife and I were back in town visiting family and stopped in here for breakfast. Its the best Owego has to offer. The food was great and reasonably priced. The coffee was fantastic as well. The place was very busy but you never felt it. We made sure to stop again on our way out of town.
If you happen to be in the lovely town of Owego, Owego Kitchen is a must try. One of the best local sandwich shops that I have been too. The grilled corn bread was amazing and the assortment of turkey sandwiches are really great and I loved the Tuna sandwich too! Must visit for all the foodies out there!
Owego Kitchen is hit or miss. I stopped going after I got some very burned food and there were a lot of flies in the restaurant. It was hot and the doors kept opening, so perhaps that wasnt their fault, but I wasnt a huge fan. The food is ok, some of it is awesome, some of it just ok. Some employees are very nice and helpful, some can be rude and unhelpful. So it really depends on the day and time you go. It is in a nice spot and pretty quick, coffee and tea are good for a quick stop.
Simply amazing. I found the kitchen by a simple search and what a great surprise. I had a lovely turkey panini and Cole slaw that was super delicious. Ice coffee well flavored. Large impressive desert case but I was too satisfied from lunch to buy anything! I will be back to buy dessert at another time!
Everything is made fresh and is delicious. Why would anyone want to eat at a Subway when they can come here and for around the same price get a sandwich that is 100 times better. Plus they have lots of cakes and pies for dessert. The people are friendly and the service is very fast.
This place was lovely. But it touts itself as having a lot of gluten free options, so we went out of our way to stop here because one in our party has Celiac. When we got there they told us nothing is prepared separately, and there could be gluten contamination in anything, except for the lava cake. When you claim you are a restaurant with gluten free options, you would think you would be a tad more careful and understanding. As a counterbalance to all the amazing reviews, the rest of us had food that was ok, and certainly not bad, but I was expecting more after seeing the reviews.
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Lovelass and staff,I just wanted to let you know that I stopped in yesterday to pick up some take out for my nephew, mom and I, per my sisters recommendations, and the potato/pasta salads and sandwiches were out of control awesome!!! My mom had the Ruben, my nephew had the Rachel Sandwich and I had the Rosemary Chicken Sandwich. Your staff was kind and courteous and the food was ready quickly. Thank you and keep up the great work!!Warmly,Matt
I live out of state and was visiting some friends who recommended this place. As soon as you walk in you notice that the decor is rustic and welcoming. They have signs that say that they welcome all peoples from all walks of life and thats something that I appreciate as a person of color. The food was phenomenal. I had the creamy pesto chicken sandwich. It tasted great , was not heavy at all and had a perfect balance of richness and freshness. The quinoa on the side is good enough to be served by the bowl full. I would also recommend the Jamaican me crazy coffee. It was perfect. Owego has some great places to eat and this might be the pick of the bunch.
Stopped by for breakfast while visiting, and really glad I did. They have a very unique menu, so it was hard to choose from the several interesting combinations I wanted to try. Ended up going with the Maple Egg Melt, which was amazing. As we were eating, the owner came by to check on us and we had a few laughs. I had a very pleasant experience, and would strongly recommend to anyone who finds themselves in the area.
One of the better BLT’s I’ve had. I’m not a big mayo fan and asked for light mayo on the sandwich. Would be great if they had a BLT with avocado for the non mayo folks. Nevertheless the sandwich came out very tasty. My partner had the CBR, the chicken tasted very fresh and juicy. This will be our stop going forward when we head up to the Finger Lakes!
We discovered this place a year or so ago and it has become a favorite. It is the exact halfway point during our monthly visits to my in-laws and a very welcome pit stop. Not once have I had something off the menu that wasn’t absolutely delicious. The coffee and tea have always been on point, too. I would recommend to anyone passing by on 86 who is looking for a convenient and delicious stop off to look no further!
Stopped here for a quick lunch on our way through the area - that was a great decision! BELT (bacon, egg salad, lettuce and tomato) sandwiches were delicious, as was the peanut butter brownie we bought for dessert. Wish the potato salad was a little more remarkable but really thats our biggest complaint. Clearly popular as people kept stopping in as we ate outside. Will definitely stop here again.
I thought this place would be better than it was. One of those taste palate confusing recipe places. Each food item description contained something that turned me off. I ended up getting a breakfast sandwich that had enough honey and sweetness to make bees cry and Willy Wonka rethink his life choices.Gave it 2 stars because the interior was unique, best part.
The staff and service was good. I ordered the spicy turkey panini with a side of potato salad. The sandwich was alright but the potato salad left a lot to be desired. Ill go back if a friend wants to meet there for lunch or maybe grab a tea but not on my own for food. I know plenty of people who love the place but its not for me.
Sometimes I get breakfast and lunch here on the same day. It seems like a waste of time to leave a review because everyone loves this place, but I still had to give them some stars because theyre really great. Friendly, helpful staff and tasty food. I like to add chicken tarragon salad to a garden salad, and then crumble the jalapeno corn muffin over the top like soft croutons, but thats me.
Excellent food and service! When you come in, snag a table and order at the counter when ready. Friendly staff. And the food is AWESOME!!!! My favorites so far are from the new Back Alley Pig — the Korean BBQ sandwich and the Cuban Hog are my two favorites. Also love the selection of iced teas and iced coffees! Highly recommend. Sadly I couldn’t come during the open hours this school year (teacher) and busy on weekends, but now that it’s summer break I will be here often! It’s mainly open during breakfast and lunch.
We lucked out by parking in front of ‘The Kitchen’ and discovered the Cafe at The Hand of Man was closed. What a place! The black bean, corn & tomato soup was superb as was the tuna melt, BLT w tarragon mustard and sides of potato salad. Got desserts to go. We later read on-line ‘The Kitchen’ was rated #1 of 55 restaurants in Owego. We totally get it - a true gem in town!
A fun, laid back place to get breakfast and lunch, with hearty soups and tasty wraps and sandwiches. The staff is friendly and helpful if you arent sure what to get. Note: lunch time can get pretty busy, but you can always order to go if you dont want to wait for a table. They also have a selection of fresh brewed teas and cold coffees on hand, which are self serve.Havent had breakfast there yet but I imagine it is also tasty, and their baked goods are great. If you get the soup you also get a tasty (sweet) corn muffin which makes a simple (and free) dessert. :)
This place is awesome! Theres always fresh and delicious food! I have not had anything from here that I wouldnt order again. Foods I normally wouldnt eat, I have eaten here and ABSOLUTLEY loved. The staff is on point and friendly. Inside or outside seating. It has been packed every time Ive been in there. (Never had trouble finding a spot to eat, tho!)
I LOVE going to eat her. Very yummy and healthy food. Staff is super nice and will answer any questions you have happily. Not much of a kids menu but, if you just ask for some ham and stuff on a plate theyll whip something up for you and make sure theres something for the little ones to eat
Ike, one of the owners, was an incredible help when we walked in. Friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in his customers. He gave us a rundown of the menu with recommendations. They have excellent brunch items (great bagels) and bottomless coffee. If you stop in Owego, its the one place you need to see.
A cozy cafe in downtown Owego NY. Ive been here twice and will return. Entrees and baked goods are delicious. I recomend the French onion grilled cheese sandwich and always ask for the cornbread( with a little jalapeno in them) as your side bread. I am not the only one who recommends this option. The antique shops on their street are expansive so stop in town for lunch and more than 1 treasure.
Stopped by before we got into our driveback home and picked the Owego Kitchen based on the reviews. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! My fiance and i both had the Maple Melt. Ham, egg, cheese drizzled with syrup on toast. It was amazing! My only regret is that one of us didnt get something different. Highly, highly recommend!
So what happened to me and my boyfriend this morning was a little bit awkward and absurd. Weve been going to this place for breakfast almost every weekend and always ask for a side of mayo. After completing our order and paying for it we had a waitress coming up to our table and asking us to pay an additional 1.60$ for two sides of a mayo which literally had a teaspoonful of it.The point is not about the money and we are not cheap, we always leave a tip. The point is that I have never ever been charged for the side of mayo anywhere. The owner of the place is a total sweetheart but this waitress with her attitude just messed up all the good feeling about this place.
Never stopped in Owego before.Been through Owego on route to other destinations. Now I have a reason to make it our lunch stop in the future.Just lucky there was a parking space on Lake Street and there was The Owego Kitchen. Ultra clean and warm. A most pleasing rustic flare. We were greeted by one of the owners Ike. A very welcoming fellow.Deli style food with plenty of items to choose from.I went for the recommended Soup and Sandwich special. Fried breast of chicken on a LARGE flatten biscuit and the Tortellini soup. Both came with a side.EXCELLENT!!!!! We had no room for desserts which were many and looked very delish and tempting. If Owego is a half point on your travels, stop in The Owego Kitchen and pleasure yourselves. NO REGRETS!!!
Absolutely one of the top ranked places for lunch in my opinion. Order, sot, food is delivered to your table. Locally grown fresh produce, great salads and sandwiches and soup. Nice dessert options. A bit higher price than a diner but the old adage YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR holds true in every sense here. Once you try the Owego Kitchen it will become a top dining spot on your list as well. Traveling? Easy in off from 86 (17) East or West.
The owners and employees are excellent hosts. When you walk into the old age style Owego Kitchen, it feels more like you stepped into a close family members home filled with delicious goodies and tasteful music. My husband and I enjoy the rotational specials like Indian food one day and something else the next. If they have them, you cant deny yourself a chocolate croissant.
Although this place has an interesting rustic feel, I was a little disappointed to find that I couldnt just have a seat and have someone take my order, it was a little confusing at first, until I realized that I needed to go to the counter to order. The food was ok, definitely nothing to write home about, the endless coffee is a nice touch. Over all it was just a meal at best.
The newest restaurant addition to our village is incredible. With a relaxed setting (a backdrop of refurbished brick walls, hung beveled glass and antique posters) in a beautifully restored building it is hard not to feel a sense of well being when entering this establishment. Now add to this scene the scent of brewed coffee, fresh breads/scones/muffins/sweets, and the aroma of handcrafted hot entrees. There is soup and an extensive list of salads to boot. The food is healthy, mouthwatering, fun and affordable. Family friendly. Bright area seating in bay windows for people watching and a gently lit cosy area closer to the kitchen. Interesting design elements add to the warmth of this eatery.
This restaurant was a wonderful find. The service was excellent and the food was even better. The owners made you feel like you were sitting down to breakfast in their kitchen! I would recommend anyone searching out this quaint place and enjoying a meal and some pleasant company!!
Fantastic spot for lunch. My favorite Chicken Bacon Ranch (CBR) sandwich anywhere. Also some nice fresh baked dessert options. During the warmer seasons they also have The Back Alley Pig for a little different spin on barbeque. It looks like its part of the outback of the restaurant as there are picnic tables there, but you order from either menu inside at the same spot. Only odd part is if you order something from each menu, they will come out at different times. The Korean barbeque pork sandwich from B.A.P. is amazing and has an explosion of different flavors. They also have nice breakfast options in different sandwiches.
Best quiche Ive ever had in my life! It was zucchini and ricotta cheese...omg to die for. Im going to try to make it but I could never make crust that good. The homemade salad dressing (ranch w/dill) was also so delicious. I cant wait to go back and try other things. The man at the next table said his veggie burger was the best hes ever had as well.
Quick stop and a happy surprise! My aunt and I stopped here on a whim on way back home and love it! I had the ham and brie panini while my aunt had th gourmet gobbler. We swapped half of our sandwiches and loved them both. We had to hit the road so we had to take dessert to go. I just had my tiramisu and boy was it out of this world! The strength of the coffee and smooth cream were perfect with a cup of tea. If I lived closer I would be here constantly! Thank you for a great lunch and dessert!
I like what theyve done with the place. However, EVERYTHING they serve for lunch has either onions or horseradish, and you cannot get it without apparently because everything is premade according to the teen behind the counter. So i went with the build a sandwich and asked for a little mayo. I swear they put a cup of mayo on it, its all I could taste and couldnt even eat it. The chili was good, I asked for no green onions on it and they were on it anyways, easy enough to pick off. I can see why the people of owego like this place as its a breath of fresh air. But it appears everything is made early, then assembled later on per order. You have to eat it the way the owner intends it to be eaten.
Went in yesterday what a pleasant surpriseAbsolutely the best sandwich I chose the hummus sandwich which was absolutely delicious hubby got breakfeast sandwich. We were very satisfied with what we orderedWe definately will be back again. Its worth the 20 minute ride from Vestal.

2022-05-08I visited here with a friend who suggested the place as a local favorite of hers. She described the food as freshly made and much of it locally sourced.I had a blueberry muffin while there, and took a cup of light roast coffee and a coffee crumble cake of absolute delight home. The muffin was soft and just the right amount of spongey, not heavy, and definitely had real blueberries. The coffee was just a normal light/breakfast roast with half and half (they have non-dairy creamer options, though. I saw almond milk, I think). I am honestly not sure if they had any fancy coffee drinks but I also did not even look at the menu...glass case containing fresh goodies was pretty overwhelming but neatly displayed and had my attention from the start. I ate the coffee cake or apple crumble or whatever I got later and it was amazing. Crumbly on top, cake underneath, not too sweet. Could have been a breakfast or dessert. The service was great; the girls at the front taking orders were kind and efficient, and one came by my table once while we were eating to see if she could clear anything or bring us anything else. The space is cozy but has a good amount of seating and there are a couple small cafe tables outdoors. It was a great little stop for a visitor!

2022-04-20I love this place. They are not open for dinner, so sometimes I plan ahead and pick up food to go. The maple melt is one of my favorite breakfast sandwiches ever. The baked goods, such as muffins and cookies, are delicious. Ive also had their yogurt parfaits and overnight oats, which are amazing (but they dont always have them). The staff and owner are courteous and efficient. Theyre always posting specials online that look amazing. They also carry a nice variety of beverages. My friends and family love their iced coffees (I dont drink coffee).

2022-01-30Great food and fast service. I had the roasted vegetable sandwich, which was very flavorful, and a side of coleslaw - delicious, followed by a Reeses peanut butter cookie. My friend had the tuna sandwich and side of macaroni salad. Both were outstanding. Will definitely eat there again.

2022-06-26Myself and a group of lady friends had breakfast here yesterday. (6•25•22) I ordered one of the daily specials, a pulled pork breakfast panini. Pulled pork, American and cheddar cheese with egg. It was absolutely sinful, and so generous I took half home to my ravenous teenager!I also bought a day old cinnamon roll for a dollar!! From a bin overflowing with tempting rid bits of baked delights. Also delicious! The food is fantastic, the atmosphere all inclusive and entirely unique. A must stop in what has been called the coolest small town in America! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

2020-07-20This is my favorite spot for lunch in Owego. My go-to sandwich is the Not Your Moms Tuna Salad, which has a nice tangy kick that sets it apart from the usual, but everything on the menu is great. They have a rotating selection of indulgent desserts, and the house coffees and iced teas are nice.

2018-12-29Outstanding lunch experience. The sandwiches and chips were delicious. I had the horseradish roast beef. The 4 of us eating agreed it was a 5 star experience. Fast service, great food, and delightful atmosphere. I have eaten breakfast there and thought it was a limited set of choices. However, our lunch experience was superb and exceeded expectations. You cannot go wrong eating at the Owego Kitchen.

2021-05-16Stopped by for a quick Sunday bite after an anniversary overnight at Tioga Downs. The food here is phenomenal. Got a breakfast dagwood this time around and it was everything I expected it to be. Fresh, filling, and delicious. My only complaint it that my waistline cannot compete with the awesome assortment of pastries and deserts. Bravo Owego Kitchen!

2019-07-03Great place to grab a filling meal. Walk in, check out the menu, order and pay at the counter when youre ready, then you sit and wait. Hearty sandwiches and wraps, both hot and cold. Breakfast options all day. Fresh homemade sides like pasta or macaroni salad, etc. Desserts, coffee, tea, etc. When youre done, clear your table! 😁
