The Parting Glass in other cities:
I’ve been going to the parting glass for nearly 20 years and over the last 2-3 it has continued to go downhill. My most recent order was ordered through a delivery app and they were out of, 3 of 4 items and took them 35 minutes to contact me to even let me know. I’m not sure how you are out of soups and sandwich items mid summer during track season but they were.In general the restaurant and bar have become more unkept over the years, cleaning is obviously not a priority and as I said above, to be out of food mid summer during track season is wild. Place has survived off nostalgia primarily and needs to be brought up to date with better management and ownership.Would love to see them turn it around but it needs help in many areas to do so. I would choose elsewhere until that time comes.
How should one rate a dining establishment in which the server ignores you at your table for the first 15 minutes after you are seated, then finally realizes he needs to wait on a table... except he waits on the table of 4 that arrived 5 minutes after you?Perhaps the review should be based on the server forgetting to provide the table with silverware or napkins, even after the dinner has been served?Or, is it best to base the review on a dinner order of Open Faced Hot Turkey, served with beef gravy (which tasted the same as gravy from a can), instant mashed potatoes and generic slices of turkey (eerily similar to deli turkey, all of the same thickness and consistency)?Perhaps basing the review on an order of traditional Irish Bangers and Mash, which was also served with instant mashed potatoes and the same beef gravy from a can?In retrospect, it might be best if the review be based on the lack of cleanliness for the dining establishment (dirty floors, torn chairs, card tables used as pseudo dining tables, windows and windowsills which were caked with dirt, dust and random leftover food stuffs). If you are keen on satisfying your hunger in a dining establishment which more closely resembles a college dive bar, that also grudgingly serves food (conveniently during the summer tourist season, perhaps to take advantage of the many out-of-town guests to visit Saratoga who are sadly unaware of just how dreck this dining establishment really is).
Unfortunately we reserved a St Patrick night table for dinner, drinks and a band.... they failed to deliver and suffered a major setback. When I arrived to meet my group, I was told a chef walked out, the kitchen was behind and they would start taking orders again at some point. The waitress didnt offer chips, dessert or anything while we wait.Drinks took so long that we had to go to the bar to get them ourselves. While there we heard our server tell the bartender that she was swamped. The band ended and she handed us our check without ever following back up about food. I was beyond starving...I havent gone out much and this was like a big finger in our face. I ate Wendys drive through for St. Patrick Days dinner. At least potatoes are Irish right? Are they even allowed to serve drinks w/out food during COVID?Years ago, I would have rated it top notch but this experience was far from how I remember them in their prime.
Our first indoor dining experience since March; we were lucky enough to visit on a day when Reuben soup was the special- SO GOOD!! Made my anxiety of being inside melt away. We have visited many times before over the 40 years and hope to be able to continue for another 40! Thank you for awesome food and friendly welcoming staff!
Its possible this place really is five star, but I was there to dance as part of a Dance convention, and felt that my dancing was not fully accommodated - but most of my issues were beyond the control of The Parting Glass, so would be no fault of theirs. They did push all the tables and chairs out of the way. But when youve been dancing all day on a nice wood floor, to come into a bar floor... It was just a little too sticky to dance in a manner that I really wanted to dance. Did have a lot of very nice ambience.
Unfortunately we didn’t have the best experience. Service was poor and the food wasn’t great. Took forever to get drinks, then the food took way too long. One meal came out first, then all the other meals came out 10-15 MINUTES LATER. Didn’t get everything we ordered and had to ask again for it. The bill also had a few things messed up, which we had to point out.
This is one of the last places left that reminds me of Saratoga before it became so upscale. Its a down to earth Irish Pub with a great selection of beer and fantastic food. The staff is friendly and the kitchen is open late, so we never have a problem getting dinner after we put the horses away, clean up and head back into town. The Parting Glass is not fancy or new, but it is an iconic Saratoga establishment that will take you back a couple of decades. This is a place you can enjoy a good beer and rub elbows with some local insiders, like it was before the big money rolled in.
Im not much of a drinker, so I cant properly rate this popular Saratoga Irish pub. (I was there for an event and ordered a diet soda.) Our service was nothing special, but I did learn that the bartender was waiting on tables for the first time ever, and he was taking care of the whole front room. I ordered some food, and it was good. Some of the people I was dining with had some strange things happen with their food orders, but not enough to ruin the evening. The next time I get back there, hopefully things will go more smoothly.
A tasteful and authentic American take on an Irish pub. Great drafts and other beers wines and spirits. full dinners and pub fair. Music and entertainment at times. (Call to confirm)Darts and table games in the backroom, which has a separate bar to support it.Great fun place
Well it is and, frankly, always been the premier Irish Bar in the Capital District. For awhile Eamons gave them a good run for their money but that tragic ending secured their position better than any Triple Crown winner. Go there to enjoy the craic and drink and wonderful entertainment!!🍀☘🇮🇪
My wife and I met there in 1982. Weve been going there ever since. The place is in dire need of a drastic makeover. Staff is always cheerful and attentive. Music is top-notch. Food is good, reasonable, and consistent. It can be cold and drafty. Still the BEST pint (Guinness) in Saratoga.
I dont know how this place gets away with calling itself an Irish pub. Every Irish dish we tried was absolutely awful. The Guinness Black Bean soup tasted like beef broth and had no hint of Guinness. The Lamb Stew was nothing but huge chunks of potato and carrot. I think we found one piece of lamb in it. The Shephards Pie as over-seasoned. The only good thing we ate was the hot wings. While there, a group of absolutely obnoxious drunks took over the bar and disturbed every other patron in the place. They were so rude that we all thought management should have asked them to leave. Instead, we were only too glad to leave and not come back.
We stopped in for a meal. The food was pretty good. The service was terrible. Waited fifteen minutes to get a drink. Our food took 45 minutes. I wanted another Guinness but it was impossible to get it without going to the bar, only to be ignored by the bartender. When I noted our mediocre experience to a local family, they said thats pretty typical at the parting glass.
Food was very good but service was extremely slow. We waited over 20 minutes for a drink we ordered and ended up having to get it from another waitress who was new there. Again food was top notch, but I wouldnt recommend this place if youre looking for a quick bite to eat.
They do have a wide array of beers, but theyre not that awesome in general. Food looked authentic but as if it missed a little something. They have live shows and many dart boards and tournaments, or so it seemed. Went on a Saturday afternoon, and the experience was a little dull. Consider going later for something more lively.
Been going on & off over last 30 years, basically just for the entertainment & friends. Not the cleanest place, but recently better than in past. Have drank & eaten many times, never fallen ill, but the kitchen is usually a filthy mess, SO DONT LOOK IN if your are ordering, LOL.
An Irish pub with Irish music..having about 7 different venues to choose from our first time in Saratoga, we chose the Parting Glass. Food was good, but the white house wine was awful! I got scotch and water instead. Service was a little spotty, but we still had a great time.
Can not understand why this place has a 4.3 rating. Went there w/ my girlfriend. By appearance, the place is not the cleanliest and the decor is a mess. Ordered a beer and the waitress was unsure if the draft was working. They were on and I got a magic hat which was flat. I ordered a Ruben burger w/ beer battered fries. The burger looked like a mess, the meat tasted frozen and undelightful, and the bread and corned beef were burnt and very dry. The entire burger had an off taste (stale). The beer battered fries did not taste beer battered. My gf ordered a margarita (not sure why in an irish pub, but w/e). The margarita came out in a VERY dirty glass, so we sent it back. The waitress brought out another margarita in another DIRTY glass. MY gf gave up at that point and ordered water. Then she ordered a buffalo chicken wrap. It wasnt half bad, except the blue cheese was bad, so we sent it back and my gf ate nothing while I ate a stale tasting burger!! Should have walked out, but throughout all of this the waitress was attentive and very nice and didnt charge us for the margaritas or the wrap. But I cannot understand why this place is rated at 4.3 stars. Very poor experience for us, will not be back.

2022-04-12Amazing environment. Best Irish pub. Angel was the best bartender. She took care of me the entire night and made sure that I was enjoying myself. I would come back 100%. The drinks are well priced and I cannot wait for my next trip to the Parting Glass

2022-03-15The only place that I still get back to whenever I return to Saratoga. The beer and settings are perfect and if you get there on a night of live music, its always excellent. They have over a dozen dart boards in back and theres nothing like spending time with your friends and family while playing Cricket and drinking a Guinness.

2022-02-24Consistently great food! Love the bangers and mash, Irish breakfast (yes, for dinner!), and shepherds pie (although it is beef not lamb). Always friendly service! I have occasionally waited a bit for my food, so bring good company and enjoy their great beverage selections! ;)

2018-03-16This is my favorite upstate Pub. It is located within easy walking distance of the downtown Saratoga shops and restaurants. It is a large establishment with a great menu. They often have live music (usually Irish) and they have a darts hall. The folks that work and frequent there are friendly and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Try the Baileys brownies or cheescake for a late night treat. I us3d to live a few blocks from the Parting Glass and I was there all of the time on nights and weekends. Its one of my favorite places in Saratoga Springs.

2019-07-28Great service and food was quick. Laid back atmosphere with sandwiches, burgers fish & chips and salads. Nice place to see music in- you can sit and eat while watching the band on their large stage. Theres a sperate front room for more intimate dining, and in the back bar theres a large area with darts and pool thats great for large groups/private parties. We had a party of 7 (with 3 kids) and it was perfect. We saw a live Irish band perform and had dinner (you can get reservations ahead of time for shows). What a great evening! The parting glass staff are always such great hosts! We love the traditional Irish music every Wednesday and huge selection of tap/bottled beers too!
