Positive: Love the luxuriousness of the hotel and the Location cant be beat. Negative: We did have an issue with two deliveries from a friend (Champagne and a cake) that never made it to us. That was a bit disappointing for a 5 star hotel to mess up a service like that.
This is perhaps the most iconic hotel in all of New York City. It has been rendered all the more well known by the famous Hollywood movie - Home Alone. If you want to relive that Hollywood fantasy and stay in a top hotel that featured in your favorite childhood movie - Then by all means. If not, you will still find value in the excellence of their accommodation, service and, of course, location. Right at the heart of New York, and right next to Central Park, you will find many things of interest around this place. Monuments, fun activities, any brand outlet or eatery that matters. Who knows you might even manage to run into a celebrity while here. Kaching!
I greatly enjoy the Plaza. Staff is very good. The hotel is always busy, which I don’t love, but honestly cannot be helped, given the significance of this landmark hotel. The rooms are beautiful, but not at all uniform (aka same room type will have very different layout stay to stay). The bathrooms are gorgeous. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Dining options are plentiful. We have experienced all and standouts include a relaxing afternoon tea or a quick crepe in the underground food hall.
Lovely prestigious Hotel in a great location of NYC. We have stayed four times here in the last few years. Staff are friendly, rooms are clean and tidy. The only fault i would have is they do-not have tea/coffee facilities in the rooms which would be much better than having to ring down for room service! Restaurants are lovely. Worth trying the Afternoon Tea in the Palm Court.
We attended afternoon tea and it was purely delightful. While $75 is a bit steep in price, they food was really good and the tea was amazing. My sister ordered the vegan menu and as a pastry chef myself, I think they could improve on their pastry selection or drop the price of the vegan afternoon tea a little. It was a fun time and it was great for our late birthday celebrations.
Stopped in for a drink and sat in the Champagne Room. Beautiful atmosphere and great people watching. The cocktails arent cheap, but they bring you a lovely trio of nuts and chocolates.Dont miss the Food Court downstairs! Unbelievable options to dine, snack or shop for gifts. The crepe cake from Madame M ... to die for.
Had the afternoon tea here. My goodness, what a joke. Nothing was delicious. Everything was barely average in Taste. Would expect the plaza to at least have decent quality. The waiters service was decent, up until I tipped on card instead of cash, and from then on it was ignore the customer til the end. Way better high teas just about everywhere else. Dont go just because its the plaza. Its a pretty disappointing afternoon tea.
They have really good steaks and they have really great deserts the architecture is beautiful. If you want to go have a wedding there that would be a very good place to do it. I would prefer doing honeymoons. They have a really good pools I would suggest this for any kind of trip.
How sad...my memories of the Plaza go back to the 50s and all the joy it brought our families celebrating many occasions yearly in all the fine restaurants they had.The stunning lobby was welcoming then, filled with gorgeous flowers and places to sit. Now you come in to a sign that says you cant walk into parts unless you are staying at the hotel there. For those of us who appreciate fine, elegant and upscale...this is no longer that. Time marches on, too bad it took so important part of our history with it.
This is an amazing NYC icon. The place is a great place to explore. I always go downstairs after a day at the Central Park Zoo. There are tons of food options and dessert. The Plaza shop has nice souvenirs amongst other things. I highly recommend this place to check out to explore or get food downstairs.
Had a wonderful afternoon high tea with friends here. We chose the champagne tea instead of the new York tea, and actually found there was a little too much on the sweet side, and not enough savoury, so we ordered a plate of the sandwiches from the New York tea additionally and that was great as an extra between the 4 of us. The selections of teas is huge and we each chose a different pot so we could share between us. Highly recommend this as a one off treat, it really was delicious and a great experience.
We had afternoon tea. It was a nice experience. The food was cute and delicious. I went on a busy weekend and they told me they were pretty much booked and that they would have a hard time accommodating a party of seven, but when I got there at the time slot they gave me, they were able to seat all seven of us together which was fantastic. The teas were just okay I didnt really enjoy the one I ordered and the one I wanted had an extra surcharge so I didnt order it. I tasted my friends tea and it was also mediocre. It smelled nice but it was flavorless.
Location is perfect but service is terrible and absolutely no sense of luxury. Myself and my husband spent three nights in an ok room but literally no attention to detail. Room was not cleaned after first night, very rude staff, 60$ per night destination fee, breakfast cold and average in Palm restaurant. When checking out were not even afforded the curtesy of asking if we enjoyed our stay. Went expecting a little bit of luxury left feeling totally unimpressed.
I love this hotel, super clean, great rooms, and the food hall is amazing! My reason for not giving this hotel 5 stars is that staying at this world re-nowned hotel, I would expect at least the amenities of Disney World, which includes: a bar that stays open least until 12, free WiFi, and a notice of events that close down certain areas of the hotel. Our last night, we wanted to enjoy this beautiful place with a drink at the bar before heading to bed, but we were turned away at the 3 bars and it was 10:30 PM on a Saturday.
Best hotel so far that I’ve been too. Thanks Samantha in palm court for making my dinner specialThanks Alejandro in champagne bar for being such a great server. We felt instant connection. Be you!And thanks all team for making my dream come true with setting up home alone viewing party at my room lol
Had afternoon tea here with my wife. It was very nice, but I expected a little more for the price. Very good tea selection. Docking a star for the bathrooms- none nearby you have to hike around though the lobby to a different bar. Huge line for the ladies room. Mens had only one stall and the lock didnt work so I was walked in on three times.
We came for the gluten free high tea. They gave us microwave burned food and sandwiches from old food flavored heavily by the refrigerator. To make up for it they gave us cheap champagne and they watched to see if we enjoyed it. Hideous service, we were ignored and waited a long time for our food. This was very insulting. I felt like we were treated this way because they assumed were awed by the location.Yes we had a reservation. I experienced this in the summer of 2018. This gets two stars for ambiance but we will not be back.
We stayed there at the end of June. The staff was friendly and helpful and the place was very well maintained. It definitely shows age, but thats the beauty of that place. The design and decor of the hotel is first class. The restaurant is very classy in all respects. I give it 5 stars without a hesitation. Way to go!!!
The Plaza offers a great location across the street from Central Park. The bed was very comfortable (I normally do not get a good nights rest in a hotel bed). The shower pressure and temperature is amazing. The best hotel stay I have ever had. I did find the drinks at the Champagne Bar to be extremely overpriced. I got two basic margaritas and it cost $56. If they were the best margaritas Ive ever had, maybe thats justifiable. However, they were mediocre at best. Breakfast was delicious, but again severely overpriced. I just didnt find it necessary to be so expensive. I paid over $800 on my room. Maybe reduce the cost of breakfast or cocktails since Im shelling out a pretty penny for the stay.
Its a lovely building with a wonderful staff. I came here for a black tie premier party and had a great time. We had coat check and single-user, non-gender restricted restrooms below and our floor had enough space for some quiet tables and some more in the heart of everything as well as an upper section, a large central bar and two spots to get catered food, a dance floor and a stage and still space for a VIP section and space to move around. The decor is mostly what you would expect, a bit generic, though I appreciated their own branded champagne glasses. To be honest, Im not sure why its a destination spot on its own but if youre looking to host a party, and the price seems comparable, Id recommend it. The staff were truly wonderful and the food and bar were great - not sure if those came through the hotel itself or an outside vendor.
Stopped by for a drink, the bar was clean and well stocked. A bit pricey but that was expected. The drink I had was amazing and probably the best one of the evening. The bathrooms though a bit of a trek to reach. However the bathroom door design doesnt do to well of a job from keeping people from seeing into the stalls.
Definitely Not Up To Par!We were supposed to have an early check in at 10:00, were told the room was not ready but they would call us when it was ready. 11:00, 12:00 still no room available. The people staying in our room checked out at 12:15, we were told housekeeping was working on it at that time. 1:00 no room, 2:00 no room. By then we simply asked to be put into a regular room so we could change and clean up, received absolutely no assistance from the front desk. Were told the room would not be ready until at least 3:00. At that time, we canceled our reservation and went back to the basic hotel we normally stay at. We expected far better service at a place which was going to cost us $1,700 a night. Sadly, we receive far better service at a hotel costing $275 a night.
The decor and overall ambiance of the place was beautiful! Its a little crowded, but the food makes up for it. Definitely a nice place to have tea with your girlfriends or on a nice date. Oh, and service was amazing! My only complaint was the crowd and how inconvenient it was to get to the bathrooms.
After booking our rooms to stay we tried to make reservation a week in advance for high tea.I called first and left a message which no one called back..so the next day we called the receptionist took down our name and number and said she would call us back as the system was down.. two days past and we called and found out she had not.The hotel is beautiful, service downstairs is great.(Day one of checking in.)My only complaints would be they gave us a room where the bathtub was completely broken and we called down to change rooms and they said they would call back ,but again never did.And the hair dryer was broken..As well update your house robes they feel very old and rough. We love the Plaza lounge area and bar, but wouldn’t stay here again.
Stopped by for a drink with my fiancee and had a nice experience. I give four stars because it was a bit expensive. 25 dollars for a cocktail. However the decor and the grandiose setting made it easier to swallow. The service was good and definitely sweetened the experience. Its a once a year type of experience but I would definitely come back for 1 drink.
Great location, yet hotel is quite old and big but empty: big lack of furniture which makes it unwelcoming. To their credit, they booked us last minute Boat House restaurant and we had a VIP service. Upon our departure, they gave me a sweet flower bouquet. We had a suite with Central Park South view. The suite had high ceilings yet room facilities was old or annoying such as the safe box in a drawer linked only to two cables...and toilette seat bursted back sometimes. No full mirror in the whole big suite!!Housekeeping service very lazy: she kept on paying us compliments every time she saw us, yet she would not even pick up trays with tea for 2 days! Or not throwing plastic water bottles.Overall, fairly good experience.
Me and my family just finished our 3rd stay at the plaza and what can I say it just gets better and better. Had a slight issue which the hotel manager Andrew dealt with personally and made sure everything was sorted promptly. We stay at many 5* hotels and resorts across the world but the service this hotel offers is second to none, every guest is made to feel important and special. Well done again the plaza and a personal thank you again to Andrew. See you again soonMr Khan UK
Our time at the Plaza Hotel was a lovely one. We went to the Palm Court for the New Yorker tea on the afternoon of Labor Day, and it was a delight to have such a luxurious high tea experience. The hosts in servers were friendly and attentive, the tea sandwiches and pastries were absolutely delectable, and there was nothing spared in making the visual experience a picturesque one. I particularly enjoyed the fruity green and white teas on the menu as far as the beverages, and among the spread of finger foods, the surprising stand-out favorites were the lemon scones, served to warm, decadent perfection along with freshly whipped butter and preserves.
The Plaza is a 5-star building and location, with 3-star service and attention to detail. I gave them a 4-star rating, but Id give them a 3.5 if I could for the overall value I received in relation to what I paid. Here are my pros and cons after a recent one week stay:PROS-Great location-Beautiful building-Beautiful room (Higher ceilings are on lower floors)-A/C worked great.-The food hall downstairs was nice, but the hours were not always convenient.CONS-My initial room was over 300 feet smaller than what I booked. After a couple of tries I finally got a room more like I expected, but it took about an hour, which made it an inconvenient way to start off my trip, and it left me feeling like The Plaza was attempting get away with some sort of bait and switch on the room.-Except for one front desk person, and one bellman, the service at the Plaza was lacking. The staff is about as friendly as they have to be to keep their job, but no more.-The room view was not what I would have expected for what I was paying.-Areas of the hotel are showing more wear than you would expect from a 5-star hotel. For example, the hallway carpet should be replaced. The outside front entrance can even use some refreshing.-The value for certain food items was ridiculous. I expect high prices when staying at The Plaza, but I also I expect quality in return. I could go into more detail, but all it will take is for you to order The Fitzgerald Tower in The Palm Court to see everything you need to know.-The service at the Todd English restaurant was terrible. One night my family and I were seated, then brought water after about 10 minutes, and then we never saw a waiter again.-Theres no coffee maker in the room, which forces you to pay over $20 a pot if you want coffee before you leave your room.-Shower pressure was at best decent.-The Plaza missed delivery the newspaper to my room the first two days, until I addressed it for a second time.-Leaving the hotel was a major inconvenience because of a parade that that shut down all the streets around The Plaza. We had to trek all the way over to Madison Avenue with our luggage to catch a cab to the airport. Fortunately, one of the Plaza bellmen I mentioned above came to the rescue and made this easier for us than it would have been otherwise. Maybe its just me, but I feel a 5-star hotel should have warned all their guests that were checking out that day that all vehicle access would be blocked off to the hotel until the evening, so wed have enough time to plan accordingly.-Again, maybe its just me, but there was nothing special about The Plazas nightly turn down service. Ive stayed at other NYC 5-star hotels that provide chocolates, cookies at night, and even nice notes and champagne upon arrival. The Plaza did nothing to make you feel special, except for provide small bottle of water. For context, I was staying in one of their largest suites.-The Plaza pumps a perfume smell into the hotel, which has the potential to be a nice touch, but at least for my stay there was a Gardenia smell that was way too overpowering.-On the way to Food Hall The Plaza rents out small retail and kiosk spaces to vendors. Some of these vendors are frankly too low end to in the Plaza and their employees harass you in attempt to sell their products. Its not much different than the experience you get from the guys on the streets outside selling horse rides and tours. For the kind of money I was paying this is not an experience I appreciated while inside the hotel, and frankly, these types of vendors cheapen The Plaza.
I only went to The Plaza food hall, not the hotel. It has all sorts of high quality food, drinks, desserts, and snacks. Its a great place to sit and enjoy a drink, snack, or meal and people watch; or to grab something to take to Central Park right across the street. It almost always has a crowd, which shows its offerings are quality, but not too crowded to the point its uncomfortable or requires waiting. Highly recommend visiting.
We came here for the Mothers Day afternoon tea. The tea was great, as expected. The finger foods were, as one might expect, quite good. The service was decent, but a but slow, although I suppose thats part of the atmosphere. Its an opulent place thats really quite nice to look at. That said, the prices were a bit more than what we felt the experience was worth. While we had a fairly good experience, the pricing makes it so that I dont see us coming back anytime soon.
We only came in for a drink. We found it to be too pretentious. We are young and not dressed up. My wife was disappointed as she had great experience before. Maybe they should consider that young people not dressed up may have more money than older people. In fairness, the drinks came with some nice dark chocolate on the house.
Classic spot! I love staying here, it reminds me of home alone. The decor is just magical. And the food hall downstairs is bomb. You can get all kinds of food, you pretty much don’t have to leave this place. The location is ideal too - right by the park, you can’t beat it. But trust me you’ll want to just stay in the hotel the whole time
Fabulous hotel with a fantastic staff. Love Buddy, Sally and Bon at the front desk. The Plaza is what a good hotel is supposed to look and be like. The palace and the baccarat besides the fact that they’ve basically turned into a over sensationalized shopping malls have horrible service and are resting on their laurels of heritage.
This review is for the food hall only. I have been to the food hall a few times and really like the variety of food available, good options not only for a regular meal but also snacks or desserts. Good place for coffee as well, particularly later in the day when many others have closed up already. Decent amount of seating and restrooms are available as well.
Its too bad they close off the interior to people who arent guests now, but the marketplace underneath the Plaza is cool. You enter through the east side and take an escalator down. Lots of trendy, delicious eateries in an underground marketplace/mall style. You cant really go wrong, so take a look around and eat whatever looks good to you. Coffee is great, deli food is great, cakes are great. We will come back.
First time at the Plaza since the residences renovations. I preferred the old lobby (as seen in Home Alone) but new one is still beautiful. Loved all the staff from being greeted by Freddie as we drove up to Patrick at reception. They all treated us very well. Lovey ionic hotel. Very posh. Youll love it. Only crack would be the concierge staff. Never smiled. English not their first language so you had to repeat requests and it was difficult to understand them sometimes. Would have expected more proficiency given the job description. Overall an amazing and memorable experience.
Not cheap but its gorgeous. Huge variety of incredible shops. All kinds of food from snacks, to appetizers, main courses, desserts, high end treats and gifts too. Seating is VERY limited and its usually very crowded. Its better to grab your food and go to the park if its nice out.Lady M cakes is the most famous stall with their crepe cakes. The line is long and the cake is expensive ($7 per slice) but it is amazing!
I was there for a large meeting in the elegant 2 (3?) Floor ballroom. Food court looked good downstairs...not huge but quality. The Palm Court still is open to the public for tea, but I couldnt see it...it is now walled off on one side. All entrances on 5th Street are for residents only.
We stopped by The Plaza for lunch at the food hall. There is SUCH a variety to choose from. Theres something for everyone. We decided to eat at Lukes Lobster and had a great meal.We also sat and had drinks at Todd English. Id also recommend Billys Bakery. The staff here were kind and very helpful and the food was excellent.
I cannot say enough about about The Plaza! Stayed in the Tower room and was blown away. It is definitely a MUST! The room was very clean and the service was beyond compare! Truly my best stay in NYC! Afternoon tea in the Palm Court was the best tea experience that I have had. And I have had afternoon tea in some pretty well known places.
I did not stay at the hotel, but I did eat at the food court and got dessert there. I enjoyed the pasta dish that I got from Ora Di Pasta, and the dairy free-for-all sorry that I got from the frozen yogurt place next to it. The people were nice, and there were tables and wearing areas for anyone to sit from any of the places for food. Id come back.
Had been looking for a room for my husband and kids all night and they had a double bed room available. Room was very nice. Staff was friendly. The only thing I would say is that they do not have AC and there was a bit of ash on the shelf. Other than that, it was a good room for the night and had no problems.
Wonderful! This was my first trip to NYC and this was one of the events I was most looking forward to! The staff, the tea and treat selections, the setting- everything was So So Nice! Please go and treat yourself! (It is pricey, but completely worth it!) I Love NYC!!!
My wife and daughter invited me along to their traditional event of having brunch at The Plaza. The food and service were very good. I really liked the flavorful preparation of the bacon. However I would have preferred a much better coffee than what was served. The way the yogurt was presented (in a glass jar and lid with plastic seals and metal latch) seemed a bit much, and was a bit clumsy when taking it to the table unless you actually sealed the jar first.
We typically stay at the Four Seasons when visiting NYC, but, this time we thought we’d stay at “The Plaza” to experience a true NYC icon. Wow, what a mistake! We booked three rooms (a suite and two regular rooms (the suite for us and the two rooms for our daughters) . I booked all of the rooms on the same floor (we congitmex with the front desk upon arrival) because we wanted to make sure our daughters were close by. When we arrived (1:30pm) they told us our rooms would not be ready until 3:00pm.The suite was actually ready by 2:30pm and one of the other rooms was ready at 4:00pm. The third room wasn’t going to be ready until 6:00pm (not sure why there was such a delay). Management called at 4:30pm to tell us that they wanted to move one of our daughters to another floor (because the last room was still not ready) I said absolutely not; that’s when the manager went on to explain that our request (to have all rooms on the same floor - the rooms we booked) was simply a request and that the hotel had the option to move us. I have never been told this at any other hotel.I told the manager that our daughter would stay with us until the room was ready; at that point the manager suggested that he wasn’t sure when the room would be ready because the previous occupants decided to check out late and he didn’t know when housekeeping would make it ready for new guests. Finally, I said we wanted the room when it was ready, but we wanted a discount on that room since we didn’t get it at 3:00pm (standard checking time). He agreed and he finally called at 5:15pm saying to room was finally ready. In addition, after room service I called to have someone pick up the room service table...we waited two hours and I called again...I became so frustrated that I rolled it into the hall.Upon departure I asked if the room discount had been applied and that desk manager became frustrated because I wouldn’t accept the charge until someone could show the discount.Lastly, my daughter had left her necklace on the night stand upon departure and I called the hotel to ask them to check. They said they’d check and call me back (we were already at Penn Station)...I received no return phone call and at this point I’m going to have to call again! This is NOT “The Plaza” we’ve all heard about...it’s a Fairmont property and I’m sure it was better before it was acquired. So sad! Nice hotel poor service!
Its a beautiful hotel with old world charm but modern upgrades. The guest rooms dont have a view of the Central Park, but what do you expect. My only complaint is you have to pay for WiFi, which at these room rates they should throw it in. It honestly cheapens the experience that they nickel and dime you on something which is now free with almost every hotel. Minus one star for the lack of free WiFi.
The Plaza is a timeless venue that provides an elegant backdrop to any occasion. Service is impeccable and exceeded my expectations. Parking is easy and valet service is available. The hotel bars close relatively early on weekends, which was unexpected. It would be a shame for anyone to miss the opportunity to see it interior architectural beauty.
There is a nice collection of restaurants beneath the lobby of the hotel, though it gets extremely busy. Finding a place to sit is difficult. Staff at the deli counter was helpful, polite, and professional. They had us wait for a banh mi but ingredients were out of stock so they let us select a similarly priced item (quiche) and comped us a couple of cookies.
The design of the hotel is very elegant. After doing allot of walking its nice to come back to a very comfortable bed. Good value for standard of hotel. The tv in the room was old. The kids enjoyed playing in the tub. Alessia, at the Front Desk, was professional, efficient and very friendly.
While the staff are extremely kind, I was surprised and disappointed by the lack of organization as well as the service in the hotel. Our check in time was 3pm and there were three rooms but none of them were ready at 3pm. One was ready at 4pm, one at 5:30, and the other wasn’t ready until 6:30. Once we DID have all the rooms, the room service was appalling. We called to have food removed from our room only to come back two hours later and it was STILL in the room. Just because we aren’t movie stars or famous doesn’t mean our service should be any less professional and timely. So unless you’re famous, don’t stay here.
We went into the shops and cafeteria of the plaza for lunch. Although all the seats were full, it was a beautiful day outside and central Park is a 3 minute walk away to eat outside. There are a wide variety of food places so it is great if you are not sure what you want to eat. I cant comment on the quality of each, but the healthy plates food shop had amazing pulled chicken, potato salad, and tomato and white bean soup. We also had a latte and cheese cake from a cafe that was delicious. Everything is a bit pricey and some things look like you are paying double what you should for the quality. Take your time and remember its NYC so its just going to be pricey.
If you want to spend money to have a great stay, take it elsewhere - there are numerous other luxury hotels with amazing services. Tour the Plaza for its great designs but if you stay, you will experience unbelievably unpleasant service provided by its employees. No assistance upon arrival, unwelcoming front desk agent, and snarking concierge.
Very nice. The staff are great, helpful, friendly, courteous. The rooms are very comfortable. There is good climate control, and the soundproofing is good if not perfect. The bathroom is very large with a soaking tub, a separate shower, and a potty room. There are only a couple of complaints. First, and the most surprising, is that when I first got into the room I found the toilet bowl not to be entirely clean. This is basic at any price point, but should be unheard of in this class of hotel. I am sure that if I was a complainer that I could have made a stink about it. As it was, I was happy to be in the room at the end of a long day. My second complaint is more personal preference. I find the decor to be gaudy. There is gold on everything, from the toilet to the mosaic tile, to the drapes and lamps. I think that they are going for an English palace feel, but it is not really my thing. All in all I had a pleasant, comfortable stay.
This was one of the very few places that my wife and I visited in New York that really let us down and disappointed us. Having had High Tea at the Ritz in London and various other hotels around the road we had high expectations for The Plaza, we got dressed up and headed to our booking. The building is spectacular, the lobby is great and the greeter is warm and welcoming and showed us to the Palm Court area where they have high tea. The price was very expensive (about $250 for tea) but you expect that when you come to a place like this. But unlike the Ritz the servings where small and mean, there where no top-ups, service was indifferent and very few of our servers appeared to be native English speaking and this made communication in-parts really quite a problem. We left feeling thoroughly underwhelmed and would on balance not recommend this to other travellers.
Absolutely beautiful hotel! Rooms and hallways have beautiful old details, like Tiffany & Co. class on ceiling in cafeteria/bar. Staff members are friendly and happy to tell you more about the history of the hotel, dont hesitate to ask! In downstairs theres shops, Cafè shops, food places and Home alone 2 area. Plaza hotel is right next to Central Park.
They are kind and patient, greeting guests with smiles more like family rather than being polite only. This is warm for travelers.During my stay, I received a piece of paper every morning, on which tips of weather, transportation and activities were listed for guests reference. When I had difficulties in ticket booking, they volunteered to help, although they dont have to. I really appreciate that.
We stopped by The Plaza for lunch at the food hall. Such a variety to choose from. We ate at Lukes Lobster, Billys Bakery and one more place whose name is escaping me at the moment. Very good. We bought drinks at Todd English and unfortunately they were bottles that needed a bottle opener. Just ask one of the vendors and they will happily open the bottles for you!
Im not sure how to rate this. First I will start with the food hall located in the lower ground floor, the variety and food are great. I will give it 4 stars. For the hotel in general itself i will give 1 star. The staff there wasnt friendly at all, I tried to get a table in the palm court and the maitre d was really rude and very unhelpful. The place was almost empty but he said it was fully booked. I checked online for tables and the website gave me lots of options and times.Very bad experience i had there, I wish I could rate less than 1 star.
As a small business owner I do a great deal of traveling so I’ve stayed at hotels all over the country. I usually don’t splurge on a business trip but when in Rome....Let me just say that all the hype about the Plaza in New York is absolutely well founded. Gorgeous hotel, gorgeous rooms, first class staff and the view of the Park from my room was gorgeous.
Please call ahead to ask which menu they are serving!! We checked the brunch menu and were excited to go relive Eloise to be greeted with a minimum $75 spend afternoon tea when we arrived. We were never alerted that only afternoon tea would be served when making our reservation and the staff was anything but apologetic!!
So where to begin, have just returned back to the UK from an epic 4 days at the Plaza hotel. The trip was for my daughters 8th birthday. From the moment we arrived it was like a fairytale for us both, the doorman Neil and Kevin were both so polite and swiftly took our bags inside. At check in Alison instantly made us feel welcome and interacted with my daughter highlighting it was her birthday. The room was incredible and that’s down to the immense effort made by Kristin in reservations for making the room so tailored towards my daughter. All of the staff in the hotel are lovely and polite and engaging, everyone knew my daughters name and on her birthday an extra fuss was made. The concierge team deserve a mention for the efforts they made in helping me with reservations. The staff at breakfast and lunch all very polite and kind, a special mention to Elvis for all the help and kindness and of course the biggest mention is to Tony and Laura in the Palm Court bar you guys!!!!Thank you everyone at the Plaza Hotel for an incredible trip one that has really left my daughter and I feeling blessed, it’s not like what is portrayed in the movies, it’s ten times better!!Thank youJames B
Wow, such a nice hotel with an amazing food hall. Didn’t get the chance to stay here but would have absolutely loved the chance to. I went to the food hall with my family and it had some great choices. I especially loved the desserts - my chocolate cake was delicious!
I have to write a review because I used to LOVE this hotel. However, 4th time coming here in a row I feel like the service has been very stuck up I understand that its a luxury hotel but I have stayed at many 5 star hotels and never get a service close to as bad as I do here. The doorman picks and choose who to open the door for, they wait and EXPECT to get a tip and I mean in a very awkward way. Just very uncomfortable. Sadly I dont think I will be staying here anymore.
As a travel agent:I get to stay in many hotels and resorts that are luxury but The Plaza is outstanding and reflects the era of the Great Gatsby. Its full of a lifestyle of the rich and deserves to boast how grand it is.The doorman open the golden doors after you walk up the red carpet and they are dressed properly. The lobby has the most elaborate round table with a huge bouquet of fresh flowers. The concierge is helpful to guests and will go out of their way to get information. The staff is so proper and you feel like a Princess. Wander around the lobby and take in the designs and architecture. Its all so posh. Dont forget drinks at Todds and they have a childrens menu. I do recommend the dumplings. There are more restaurants and exclusive shops downstairs. High Tea and special suites are also available. Now getting up to the rooms its like opening the door to the Etiquette Era of the 1920s. The plush beds are decorated with many pillows and they come with comfortable slippers and a bathrobe. My room had one giant bed and an adjoining room for my children with 2 double beds. The bathroom is top notch with soft towels. Every towel has the P for Plaza. Its true luxury and one of the best hotels in NYC.
A high class high cost hotel in the heart of the swankiest part of Manhattan island. Nice place to stay if someone else is footing the bill. The base is especially nice and worth a visit on its own. The decor is a little tired and could definitely use a refresh. Dont forget to tip
We stay at the Plaza once a year. Its what you would expect from a 5 star hotel and more... It has an atmosphere that newer hotels simply cannot duplicate. We love it!May 2019 Update: Another perfect stay. The entire staff strives to deliver 5-star service. However, Buddy and Alexandra shined through as going above and beyond!
Went to the C100 event at the Plaza. The room for the cocktail looked old and worn out. They had to keep the lights low so you wouldnt see how run down it was. For the dinner, we were crammed into small tables of 10. The food was largely non-existent along with basic service only. The whole thing flet like a 3rd rate wedding reception.
I love the plaza! We stayed in the Edwardian suite, and the room is beautiful and luxurious. The soaking tub was just large enough for two people, and I love that they provide scented bath sachets - its the little things that make a big difference. The highlight of my trip was doing high tea downstairs. I am allergic to gluten which would normally make high tea difficult for me, but the plaza has a gluten free option which comes with a large assortment of gluten free sandwiches, scones, and pastries. You cant beat the location, its right near all of the good shopping and dining, and you can walk out the front door straight into central park.
The Plaza is one sophisticated and stylish hotel in Nyc. Classic yet classy, but everything else is up to date. Hotel staff are accommodating and warm, spacious room, neatly cleaned and the interior is suitably in motif and the room amenities is a perfect 10/10 for me. Not to mention that there’s a food hall dining in the basement that offers diverse range of quality specialty foods. I was there last month and since it was winter I didn’t check the pool area.
Such an amazing experience. This hotel, right on the corner of Central Park really lives up to the hype. The staff are all immensely helpful and will try to solve any problem and answer any query you may have. The food in the restaurants is sublime and the actual rooms are mind-blowing. One of the best hotel experiences Ive ever had.
Everyone in the hotel was very helpful and friendly. Great people and excellent service. We were upgraded to a suite and it was just palatial. The front desk clerk was very nice each time. Housekeeping was really great at the hotel. The staff is friendly and helpful. The price is good compared to the standard.
My daughter and I loved the overall experience. I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the hotel staff. The cleanliness of the room was fine. All in all a good hotel in a good location with great transport connections. The room price is very reasonable for the standard.
Spent the weekend at the Plaza Hotel. History, room, amenities, service, the bed, the food, were ALL EXCEPTIONAL. My wife and I make at least an annual trip to New York, often two trips, and we try to mix it up and stay at different hotels or VRBOs in different areas of New York. The Plaza is going to be tough to beat moving forward, we loved it.
Dec 29,2019 will mark my fortieth wedding anniversary. We had a one night honeymoon at The Plaza. Had drinks and appetizers at Trader Vic’s then took a carriage ride to Tavern on the Green. Wound up at a show at ghen Waldorf. We probably had the smallest room in the hotel but it was cool and fun and we remember every minute of it!
Ive stayed here and the rooms were really nice. Its something to stay at a hotel in New York city that is so iconic. So many movies have been filmed here and just out side of the plaza.every one should stay here at least once. The down stairs is amazing so many options to choose from for places to eat just Superior It is so true theres no place like New York .
The customer service at this hotel is horrible. Youre paying for the historical aspect of the building but dont expect anyone to be kind...especially if youre a woman. Two men in particular refused to even answer my questions. What a shame because its a beautiful place in a great location. Even trying to resolve the issue, no one cared. They didnt even pretend to care. The man I spoke with promptly hung up on me; not disconnected but hung up. I moved my reservation to The Westin.
Beautiful, iconic hotel. Situated next to central park, I usually come here for the Todd English Food hall in the basement, which has offerings from Lady M crepe cakes, as well as some other food hall standards. The selection is all right, but the ambiance is unparalleled.
What a beautiful hotel! I was there over New Years visiting the Food Hall and it was packed! They had so many selections though! There was mini dounuts, caviar bar, frozen yogurt, pizza, sandwich, delicate desserts, oysters, sushi, anything you could ever want! Would deffinitly go back and highly recommend.
We visited the hotel in 2012... Home alone 2 should I say more. Just like everything in Hollywood not everything is what it seems to be. My girlfriend and I walked around this hotel to try and see the resemblance to Home alone 2 however we were disappointed to find that many things where different. Home alone aside this hotel is absolutely beautiful and if we had the money we would have stayed here. As Im writing this in 2018 they have a 25 year home alone 2 package which looks really cool.
The Plaza is more than just an iconic hotel. The basement house many restaurants, bakeries and stores. Of particular interest for me are Lady Ms small pop up, Eloise and the crepe shop. The basement is a great place to stop by for a quick bite and some coffee or some drinks and a meal at Todd English. If youre feeling a little fancy, the afternoon tea near the lobby is perfect with a generous selection of finger sandwiches, scones, sweets and handmade clotted cream with lemon curd.
A very special trip to NY ended in heartbreak and disappointment after our afternoon tea experience in the palm court.I had booked weeks before for our family of 5 to meet and have afternoon tea. While the hotel itself is just gorgeous and wonderul to view. The service we experienced was probably the worst I have come across. Our waiter was rude and brief- we sat for 20 minutes before even getting offered water, she was condensending and rude about the questions we asked. The food was non-existent, although we understand it is a “high tea” and therefore finger food, it seemed like only half the amount was given. Again- we couldn’t get the attention of the waiter to clarify or ask. A $300 bill for our party, but we all left hungry and upset about the whole experience.I felt embarrassed and upset to have recommend this to my family- it has become a laughing point for us - and the epitomy of poor service and overpriced finger food.I am never recommending this hotel, and would love to give this less then 1 star if I was able too.
On my birthday I went to visit the hotel. My boyfriend was touched on the shoulder by a random guy in a suit and we were told we cant take pictures without permission. I see 200+ pictures by visitors so Im not sure why we were the ones who needed permission. He told us we could sneak some really quick while his back is turned then leave. I could tell we were not welcomed there. Just wanted to experience this Home alone landmark hotel and have a nice memory picture for my birthday. I guess only the rich guests get permission
The Plaza is absolutely gorgeous. It lives up to its reputation. From the carved ceilings to elaborate chandeliers to plush tapestries and wallpaper, everything is ornate yet tasteful. Common areas are beautifully decorated with towering floral arrangements. Shops, restaurants, and food court beneath are all top tier. The property is nicely maintained. I havent seen a guest room and cant speak much about the service as even thigh we were there several times over the course of a weekend, we had limited interaction with hotel staff. Would love to come back sometime for tea.
The place was gorgeous, the high tea was an awesome experience although it was overpriced. The main complaint was the staff. Our waiter was extremely ride, did not check on us would not explain the memo. Was acting irritated and frustrated that we were taking too long to order. Really ruined the experience.
The Shops at the Plaza is an amazing spot! Stop by for a coffe or to have lunch after your Central Park stroll. Youll find a great variety of food, coffee and even a nice Italian restaurant. The best part? Its located inside one of the most iconic places in NYC. Just beautiful and convenient.
Ive been to the spa and the champagne bar and while the prices are very steep for almost anything....you are at the plaza and it shouldnt be a surprise. The bubbles are always fresh and the people watching is amazing, keep your eyes and ears ready and youre bound to see and heart something memorable.
I wanted to love tea at the plaza. I had been looking forward to it for months as I have had high tea on 3 continents and several states. It was the worst experience I have had, space and noise were both issues. We were crammed into a little table for two. I traded to the outside seat with my husband after he was bumped by passerbys. When the other party of two were squeezed he was cramped on the couch. I was sandwiched by someone at my back and a stranger across from me. It was very noisy so it was hard to have a conversation. We did the champagne tea which would have been lovely in a different atmosphere. I finally had the remainders packed to go and we enjoyed them in central park. I would say it is highly overrated, but you may have a better experience with a table of 3 or 4 that doesnt require you to be intimate with strangers. I would never consider paying that much for this experience again.
Can you love a place the same way you love a person? Every stay at the Plaza has been a dream come true. We were upgraded to the Edwardian Suite during our latest visit. Amazing view! The staff is exemplary, and so courteous and accommodating. Were so looking forward to our next stay.
I just spent a birthday weekend at the Plaza, I was surprised by my daughters for my 60th birthday. The staff was so attentive, so wonderful, this was the best experience ever. The suite was decorated for my birthday with champagne, sweets more than I could ever ask for. The guest relations supervisor Daniel B. was the best! He went above and beyond, checking with my daughters that everything was perfect. The plaza experience will be something I will never forget. Please experience it once in your life time you wont ever forget.
The Plaza deserves its status as one of the iconic hotels in New York. My wife and I enjoyed food and drinks in the shopping center beneath the guest quarters- there is no shortage of fantastic options available. The hotel itself is gorgeous; Im sure its even more enjoyable to stay as a guest as it is to visit as a tourist!
I only visited The Plaza to make use of their Gulerian spa facilities and it was wonderful. I opted for a full special body massage. The spa is accessible through the main hotel entrance. On arrival I was asked to check in via tablet before I was taken on a short walk to my preprepared locker which consisted of a towel, dressing gown and slippers. I was then taking to almost a relaxation waiting room where I was offered numerous drinks while I waited to be called in my my masseuse. The massage itself was wonderful as they focused on any problem areas one may have, after they offered me another drink to which I declined but it highlighted commitment to the experience which was well worth the money spent.
So we came here for our wedding breakfast. With high expectations for a service beyond belief and an experience we would never forget when the latter we most definitely got! The building is incredible, the security into the building is tight which is great nobody in here that is not supposed to be! Inside is out of this world with its devine decor and you really do feel like youve stepped into a royal home until you are met by the worst service you could imagine. This was a special day for us so I tried not to be my usual critical self, the gentleman that served us was pleasant but my gosh did not listen to a word we said and there were plates and glasses from all different angles and at one point I thought the pot of green tea was about to be spilt down my dress to which I asked him to just leave it on the table closest to him and we would pass between ourselves. The food was not the best there were three bite size sandwiches each and then the platter was loaded with sweets which were not very appetising. The champagne we were served was Moet which is my favourite so that was lovely but the glasses were a little stingy. The waiter never came back to the table to see how we were getting on see if we wanted anything else generally a bad service to which we were then greeted with the bill and an astronomical gratuity bill. If you are thinking of afternoon tea in NYC maybe try breakfast at Tiffanys this place needs to up its game they rely so heavily on the name of the hotel and its surrounding and do not provide the service and food you expect.
The food court offers a large variety of food and drink. You can pretty much find anything you would like to eat quickly or sit back and people watch. Its a neat place to stop into and enjoy New York City while eating (kind of like an outdoor cafe without the noise and car exhaust).
Beware of dishonest staff: I went to the Plaza for the afternoon tea on June 7th. My daughter and I had a good time, and the quality of food just excellent. However I was for a bad surprise after I checked my visa card statement it appeared that I paid 100 dollars more than I signed for on the bill when I was at the Plaza. After I called the Plaza it appeared that someone among hotel staff added 100 dollars to the 30-dollar tip that I left making in a 130-dollar tip! Just like that! If I did not keep my own check and did not verify my visa card statements carefully, I would be overpaying a 100 US dollars more. I called back the Plaza, and they reimbursed me 100US$ but I wonder how many other customers were fooled by their staff? The trust is lost. I would recommend anyone to cross check your invoices and be very careful at the Plaza. If I were the Plaza management I would be so ashamed for this incident I would reimburse the entire invoice, not just 100$, to make my customer feel better and ensure that this customer would come back.
Had a less than pleasant checkin experience. We were traveling with a baby and arrived at noon. I was aware that checkin time is at three but really need somewhere to feed the baby. The Asian guy and lady at front desk were flat out cold and arrogant, not having the decency to at least check if the suite was actually ready and spoke in a condescending manner. Aaron was nice and saved the day—turns out the room is ready anyway. Without a ramp and a proper waiting area, I definitely think the hotel could be more baby friendly in terms of staff training. Housekeeping and spa staff have been great, hence four stars.
Had to have the high tea at the Plaza. Service was very disappointing, got brushed off when we were asking for our bill. Had to wait quite a while for anyone to come over. Seats looked out to the kitchen, sandwiches werent fresh as bread was crusty on the outside from being made earlier in the day. Desserts were lovely though.
First taste of New York & what a grand stay! Beautiful 2 & 3 bedroom apartments made our stay as memorable as can be with the luxury of privacy while traveling with guests. High tea is a must and the 5 star food Bellisimo! Grand Central Park is a beautiful view in the midst of the concrete heart, New York. Loved it!
When we checked in to our hotel they lost our luggage. It was 2 hours before they found it and brought it up to us. Thats 2 hours in NYC wasted. The front desk was helpful but the security is another story. We had a security guard stalking us telling us not to take pictures. He was following us around the whole hotel. Did not feel safe at all but instead felt harassed. What kind of hotel doesnt allow taking pictures in a hotel that we paid for?Weve stayed at other Fairmont hotels and have had amazing experiences but this by far is the worst hotel Ive stayed at.
This iconic hotel deserves a nod for its history but I was sadly disappointed by their relentless push for more and more money ie deposits of $200 per day that are automatically charged without our knowledge as well as service people with their hand out for endless tips. They even tried to tack on a destination fee of $50 per day on the day of check out. The manager did take care of that.Be careful when speaking with the concierge. When I requested a fine dining Italian restaurant we were given the name of one of the worst restaurants I have ever experienced. Harry Capriani was the restaurant. When I told the concierge about our poor service and food I was first told that they dont recommend that restaurant. Then she read my email from the hotel then apologized and offered to make reservations at a different restaurant. Well, not NOW. We had our vacation planned and that was our night for Italian. As an apology they sent a bottle of champagne and really unpleasant chocolates to our room. We had retired for the night and the butler knocked and knocked until I had to get out of bed and dressed to answer the door.Unfortunately we dont drink alcohol. If they had truly wanted to make it up to us I would have preferred they ask us what the hotel could do for us. Not make the assumption that champagne is the answer for everyone. We had our own private driver but every evening when we arrived back at the hotel the doorman would open my door and ask if they could get our bags. No recognition that we had been there for five days already. There was only one chair in our room instead of two. There are better hotels on 5th Ave and should I ever return I will stay at one of those.
For the occasion of my 30th birthday my husband decided to bring me to New York as a surprise and he booked 6 night at the Plaza Hotel.I was very excited because it was a long time I wanted to stay in this hotel. We got totally disappointed. We arrived in the evening, we checked in and the concierge guy did not welcome as a luxury hotel should, the opposite he was doing everything fast like he had to go somewhere. He asked fast about our stay and my husband said we were there for my birthday that would have been the 18th of August.we checked in the 15th.We noticed the bathroom was. It perfect clean, the room is spacious but to be this kind of hotel is poor! Nothing is offered no fruit nothing, no tea bag nothing. Only 1 small bottle of water in the e e big before bedtime. I have a long list of luxury hotel that I visited and no one was so lousy, believe me no one !The day of my birthday I did not receive any happy birthday card or call. Luxury hotel ?????? BahThe hotel has a big food court downstairs, that offers every kind food, but is too full of tourists tourists everywhere!Even to go inside the hotel is hard because all tourist are allowed inside and guests have not easy access to the hotel. And of course food court is big and has variety of food but in the hotel is missing a real elegant restaurant for the evening time.I travel a lot and I love to spend time ang good money on hotels but this time was not worth.I don’t suggest this hotel.the staff is not nice and not professional at all
Wouldnt return. Over priced drinks! Which you can expect and I was prepared for that. But if Im paying that much I expect great customer service which I did not receive. Our server, Alejandro in the Champagne Bar, was more worried about other tables than ours. Just was not great treatment if you are paying almost $100 for a bottle.
Spent an afternoon at the Shops at The Plaza. Particularly exploring the caviar section. Definitely spring for the more expensive stuff because salmon caviar is like swallowing beach water. Try Siberian Sturgeon and above. Service was pretty good. The other vendors are great as well.
We went to The Plaza this afternoon for High Tea. The decor is gorgeous, the hostess was lovely. We were shown the menu for a selection. We chose 2x New Yorkers @ $50 per head, and $72 per head if you had a glass of champagne. We Ordered 2x New Yorkers (one with a glass of champagne) = $122.00. When our selection arrived, we queried why we only had one tier between us, and had to share the selection, rather than having two of each piece. No effort was made to check what we had ordered - and it was suggested that we had what we ordered. On receiving the bill we were charged for 1x New Yorker (with champagne) = $72, thats ok, but they charged us $20 for SHARING the plate - very rude when we wanted the two in the first place. Bit up themselves, and would do better to have staff who actually really want to deliver excellent service - which is what The Plaza should be offering - they certainly charge for it. Very disappointing - could have been so easy to get it right - but they didnt give a .......!
A friend and I had brunch. The food was spectacular. The service was phenomenal. Our meal consisted of a crab and avocado frittata and a Greek yogurt and granola Parfait with fresh berries. The roasted potatos are a must. Afterwards we went to the champagne bar and enjoyed a strawberry and champagne mojito along with a rosemary infused creme brule. It was out of this world.
We visited the shops under the plaza which were amazing. Lots of restaurants to eat and shops to buy specialty gifts. We had bubble tea at an Asian restaurant, a crepe cake at another and bought chocolate gifts for family. Its a perfect place for a date , girlfriends pr to eat something different while in NYC.
Had the most pleasant stay, all staff were fantastic. However, when I asked for a glass of water, the waiter said yes, and quickly brought me down a CUP of water and said he could not find a glass. I held it in shock and he looked at me and said dont worry, the faucet does not carry E.coli.I am not impressed!
Upscale bar with one tv and attentive staff. Could be a bit stuffy, for instance even moving a chair from one place to another will get you reprimanded by staff and chair will likely be taken back. Cocktails are good. Atmosphere is good if you like upscale type places.
The floor is well tiled. I didnt have to worry about falling through or tripping on something. The tiles are white, brown and black and about half an inch square - must have taken a lot of work to lay it all out so neatly! Some sections have pretty cool patterns on the ground, which is a bonus. What more could you ask for?
Rooms were very spacious which is rare to find in NYC. Rooms were super. The location is gemreat cuz Central Park and 5th Avenue are just within short walking distance. The Food Hall at B1 is a ideal place to grab something light to eat before head out and have a day long explore.
Best hotel I’ve stayed at in NYC. Room was amazing - spacious, clean, well equipped, bed super-comfortable, very quiet (highest accolade for a hotel in NYC), and room service and concierge both excellent. Location on edge of Central Park meant very enjoyable le morning walks before heading into the office.
Thank you for taking a moment to share your feedback with us following your recent visit to The Plaza! While we are most pleased to hear that you enjoyed your experience in our Food Hall, we are terribly sorry to hear of your concerns when attempting to dine in The Palm Court. We have shared your feedback with our Food & Beverage Management Team who is already working to address any shortfalls and prevent future occurrence. We thank you for providing us with the opportunity to hear of your experience so that we may take the necessary measures to improve in order to exceed your expectations in the future. Thank you for choosing The Plaza and we hope to be presented with the opportunity to better serve you soon!
Had lunch at Todd English Food Hall in the basement. Lots of options and seating. I recommend ordering and grabbing a spot asap - you dont have to sit where you ordered necessarily. Take a loop around and enjoy all the different vendors! Easy to access (2 different escalators) and there are also bathrooms, but expect a long line. Open on weekends as well - great for lunch, drinks, or just dessert - but keep in mind there are no cheap eats here! Most dishes begin at $15/ person.
Visited Todd English at the Plaza food nice but hey service ??? Server not in position to advise on drinks menu, got food order wrong and to add insult to injury plates swiped from our table even though food still on same. After all this they look for service tips !!! Not impressed.
I have always been a truly loyal fan of The Plaza. No matter what other hotels are out there, Ill always stay here when I am in the city. I have visited a lot of hotels in the world and even tho they’re beautiful and magical, still none comes close to The Plaza. It is not about the price or how luxurious, it is just Plaza hotel is the synonym of itself; a living landmark. I wouldnt feel NYC the same way again if Plaza wasnt there.
Many of the staff, receptionist particularly are under the impression that they are doing paying guest a favour by serving them. They are driven by tips and perhaps a crash course in customer service will serve them well. If they are unhappy in the jobs they should leave. Paying USD800++ per night deserves a decent service at the least.
Why not? If you afford that part of town, then enjoy the pricy fish, drinks, pastries that are solid in quality and tempting in taste. Perhaps the floor is the most significant architectural feature; it is touristy but not impossible, youll visit other interesting sites by end of day.
Great food at the underground food court. You can find everything here from Italian to Asian to sandwich shops. If you need a quick bite or are looking for your morning doughnuts and coffee this place is the number one location in the Manhattan area. A must eat location for a diverse and tasty food selection.
Top notch hotel in the heart of NYC. Room was immaculate with spectacular view of the city. Gold plated everything, everywhere from the door handle to the shower head definitely made you feel like royalty. Would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for the best NYC has to offer. Easy access to Central park, 5th ave shopping, and mass transit should you choose to explore other parts of NY.
4 pm and The room not ready !! the checking in time is 3 pm !! I ask for the manager and his assistance Michael Weinstien come and told me the room not yet ready I said I’ll checkout tomorrow I don’t like how hotel like this not respect the Guest he didn’t care or try to solve it !! Wondering of this big hotel and big name not respect the Guest I pay for the room it should ready for me I came from 13 hours flight and waiting for you to clean the room just now you remember there is a guest !! Poor reception and below the average
Stay here for a truly luxurious experience in the heart of New York City. The staff are fantastic... Very helpful, thoughtful, and attentive. Located right on, and overlooking, Central Park, The Plaza is just steps away from the shops at Columbus Circle, Times Square, and the magnificent shops of 5th Avenue and Madison Avenue. Ill definitely stay here again.
A New York classic! Stop in for a glass of wine, a beer , coffee ... or my favorite in the winter .... Hot Chocolate ! The best in the world! Dont miss the hamburger sliders! Only one issue .. when does the Oak Bar finally reopen? New York can never be the same without the original classic!
I love this historycal hotel. Its great place to spoil urself for couples of nights, huge and clean rooms. Great choices for breakfast, lunch and dining. The food hall have a huge choices of different cuisines of food and beverages. I love the ambiance at the terrace and the hallway of the Plaza, and the location is perfect in every aspect close the the iconic central park and MOMA, Lincoln center and the luxureous fifth avenue stores for shopping, clubing and dining.
Review for Afternoon Tea at the Plaza Hotel, New York. Firstly, Im British, where afternoon tea is pretty much an institution. I have been to a lot of luxury afternoon teas at home and abroad in the same price bracket, so have solid experience of what separates good from bad.The Plaza Hotel states that it is the iconic destination for afternoon tea in New York. Priced at a lavish $75-90, it definitely falls in the luxury bracket.Sadly, the Plaza is definitely not an iconic destination for tea in New York or anywhere else. I have rarely been so disappointed and felt so ripped off by an afternoon tea experience anywhere.Heres why:1) My substitute sandwiches (I dont eat pork or pate) were substandard. One of them was a pretzel roll (looked nice) with a thin smear of tomato sauce and a few basil leaves tossed inside. Apparently this is the vegan sandwich, but firstly Im not vegan, and secondly tomato sauce and three basil leaves do not constitute a sandwich, unless youre three years old. When I commented on this, they brought me a promising avocado and tomato on pumpernickel. Again, however, I got mouthfuls of overwhelming tomato paste which drowned out the avocado. The other sandwiches were pretty good but tiny. The New Yorker tea sandwiches are better than the Broadway tea ones. I liked the chicken truffle and smoked salmon in particular, BUT theres a huge caveat...(read last point)2) My first set of scones were rock hard and exploded like dust in my hands when I tried to split them open. The replacement set were better but nothing special. The berry preserve and lemon curd were also both too tart and actually did nothing for the scones. It was at this point that I spoke with the manager and expressed my concerns (also about point 5, below). I was extremely close to leaving (I had not eaten the pastries, and the scones had not yet been replaced), but she persuaded me to stay and give it another go. I reluctantly decided to give it another go.3) The tea was served all in one go, which isnt good practice, because of course the scones are going to be cold by the time you get to them. A proper tea establishment should bring you scones only after youve finished the sandwiches, and they should be nice and warm.4) The beverages were disgusting. Im not a tea drinker so started with an iced coffee. It looked impressive, but tasted like dishwater. I tried a hot chocolate instead, and it was insipid and tasteless. I barely had a few sips, so basically I had afternoon tea without the tea, or any drink.5) The biggest disappointment of the entire experience was that there are NO REFILLS on any of the items. WHAT?So, let me get this right: Youre charging me $80 for one round of mini sandwiches, two rock hard scones with preserves which dont even taste good, a few tiny (but admittedly tasty) pastries, and rancid drinks?Erm, no thanks. When I learned this, the notion that this was a luxury tea or even a treat became a complete joke. In fact, it was the opposite: a frugal and mean experience where I just felt ripped off.Ive been to five-star luxury afternoon teas in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and of course London, all charging similar amounts, and it is taken as read that you are offered complimentary replenishments of everything. Luxury afternoon tea done right is meant to be about abundance and impeccability: you arrive hungry, and leave full; your food should be exceptionally made and presented, and tasty.Afternoon tea at the Plaza fell woefully short of this, and even when they offered me a small discount off the price because I had expressed my disappointment, it was not enough. This was the antithesis of a treat; a $30 tea at a $80 price tag.The only redeeming features were the beautiful setting, friendly service, and tasty pastries (which were gone in seconds). My advice to the Plaza: take an educational trip to London, visit Claridges and learn what a proper afternoon $80 tea should be like.My advice to visitors: save your money and time and dont go here.
A beautiful and iconic hotel located on Fifth Avenue next to Central Park. One big attraction for visitors is Afternoon Tea at The Palm Court within the Plaza Hotel. The service is truly top notch, and the selection of small bites is to die for. You also have various champagne options and a full bar as well. Highly recommend treating yourself at The Palm Court.
For me The Plaza hotel will always be the place to go in NYC because as a child it was the only place we stayed with my family, and now every few months I go from Monaco to NYC I stay in the residence because my cousin lives there. The kindest staff, not to mention the most helpful, and when they say receive whatever you need in the moment, I’m not boasting. Best hotel ever 👌
Beautiful iconic New York experience. Amazing service. Afternoon tea is gorgeous and should be done at least once by every New Yorker and tourist. The Palm Court is beautiful. Stroll around the hotel a bit too. Cross the street to Central Park and do some window shopping also. World class shopping. Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Bergdorfs and more. At The Plaza...thanks to a great waiter Muhabil and the team of staff that made our afternoon tea especially lovely!
I went to the Plaza Hall out of curiosity and I was amazed by the options there. As soon as you enter you leave the city noise behind and find yourself in a beautiful cozy place, with great music and a smell that will make your mouth beg for a taste of everything there is to try. I definitely recommend it!
This place is magnificent! A true New York City landmark. While I havent had a chance to stay there just yet, there are some neat things one can do as a tourist. The lobby is definitely a hidden gem. First there is the Plaza food court that has many different cafes, bakeries and eateries. In a special atmosphere underground, it boasts a great selection of high quality cuisines, brunches, sandwiches and pastries prepared in representative establishments of some of the worlds most famous chefs (e.g. Epithecarie Boulod). Amazing coffee too. Besides that, there is also the Eloise, a toy store. My girls loved walking around there. If youre not into eating and just for a drink, the hotel bar is amazing with great service. Finally, the hitel lobby had a very nice café where we like to take our girls some winter weekends for hot chocolate and a Kir Royale for us adults. In terms of location, well, its adjacent to Central Park, across the street from an Apple store. What else do you need in life (as a tourist)? The plaza definitely ranks in my top 10 not-so-beaten-track places in New York.
JUST INCREDIBLE. We had such a magical experience for our 1 night stay at the plaza, the place is stunning and the staff are a delight and the rooms are incredibly decorated. We stayed for my Girlfriends 30th and the team absolutely spoiled us well beyond any expectations, an upgraded room, champagne, small cake and a personal note from Kevin Mccallister himself! This trip was a life long ambition and Home Alone being one of her favourite movies she was overwhelmed to tears... Thank you The Plaza and team for the most amazingly unforgettable stay
Another super luxurious hotel to stay at when visiting nyc. Is hotel is well known and pretty famous, was in lots of movies and the building just looks awesome. It is really expensive for a night here if Im not mistaken its around 750 a night. Staffs are always welcoming, friendly, professional and helpful. The atmosphere is classic, looks kinda vintage inside. Overall great hotel and everyone should save up and take a trip to nyc for vacation and stay at the plaza.
I was in NYC for vacation and because of all movies, I know I have to visit this hotel. I like how the staff are friendly greeting guests and the architecture is amazing - inside and out! I also tried to see The Oak Room but it was closed. Overall, it was exactly how I imagined it
A magical place for your important events, wedding, conference, meetings, birthday party, awards ceremony and much more. Whatever the event that matters for you, The Plaza is the right place for you.I saw it with my own eyes. Give it a try and you will see what I am talking about. Guaranteed, you and your guests will be amazed at the wonder of the place just like Ive been.

2022-03-19By far the best hotel experience Ive had in quite some time. The hotel staff is very accommodating and friendly, they very much so obviously care about the guests and strive to make it a pleasurable experience for everyone. High quality food, beautiful suites and overall a luxuries atmosphere that exceeds expectations. At the affordable price of around $600/night, this getaway can be exactly what youve been looking for. 2022-05-16Service is great and aside from the bath room nothing is impressive.Room seemed to be outdated the carpet and the furniture showed ecsseive wear and the view is non existing. For the money there a lot of nicer places in the city.Avoid the hype.Location is freak though.

2021-07-25Positive: Everything! It was wonderful. We were greeted my a friendly, helpful doorman. The beautiful lobby was filled with the scent of lilies. We quickly checked in/out. The room was so luxurious with a view of the courtyard. We definitely will return. Negative: No, but a note that turn down service is not automatic and needs to be requested.

2022-01-03The Plaza is Iconic. We didn’t stay there and if we do, I’ll update my review. We just had afternoon tea there in the tea room. We really enjoyed the tea experience.

2021-08-18Had an amazing experience here. ALL staff I encountered are incredibly friendly and helpful. This place is warm and welcoming and the history here is immaculately maintained; I really was shocked, they clearly go to an extremely high level of detail to maintain the entire premises.Immediate access to Central park, walked then rented a bike and cruised for half of the day, you can cover a lot of ground if you are brave!Bonus, the shower pressure is something Ive never mentioned in a review but it was amazing...like standing under a waterfall!
