My first experience here was awesome! I made the Christmas tree, so easy!! I plan on going back soon to do some of the other ceramics they have available. They have a great selection to choose from and you dont have to go to a class to do any of the pieces. Just go in pick a piece and get started! It would be a great place to bring young children, if they get the paint on themselves it comes off so easily! Also the employees there are super helpful and nice!!!
The Pottery Place is fantastic. Id recommend it for both children and adults! It really stood out how helpful and patient the employees were with the children on a busy evening. Weve been to other pottery spots in NYC but learned so much more about technique and tools here. The children loved the experience and didnt want to leave - after over two hours of painting!Prices were fair, IMO. Well worth the experience and the beautiful personalized pieces thatll brighten our home. My son chose a large item and still wanted to add more detail when it was time to go, so they gladly dried and wrapped it for him to bring back another day at no additional cost. Were looking forward to returning.
Fun place to visit, and they have great activities for the creatively inclined. Great selection of ceramic products - you can sit there and paint over several sessions, and theyll fire up the final product for you (you can pick it up a week later). They have classes for little kids as well - I took my 4 and 6 year olds for a 2-hour Saturday session, where they got to hear a story and paint a little piece.
This place has no respect for anyone! They are one big family and they’re all incredibly rude! As a family establishment how can they not have a changing table?! And since they don’t have one, you’d think they’d be accommodating to parents who need to change their babies! Well, nope! Basically we were supposed to clean our daughter on the dirty bathroom floor because they couldn’t provide even a chair to change her! And when we did change her in the corner, away from everyone else, the response was SO incredibly rude and disrespectful! The place is NOT worth the amount of money you have to pay and if they clearly don’t care about their customers, they should go out of business! Don’t give them a DIME of your money!
I brought my daughter here for a pottery experience, which was fine. However, when I went to pick up my pieces, there had been a power outage. Let me explain that I drove two hours round trip to make the pottery, and it took me two hours round trip to go back to pick up the pottery. When I arrived in the BROAD DAYLIGHT to pick the pieces up, I was told I couldnt because of no power. Even when I explained that it took an hour each way to get there, and asked if we could get a flashlight to use to just find my already finished piece, I was rudely and dismissively told no. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!! I will have to drive another two hours round trip to pick up the three pieces that I already paid almost $100 for, but I will NEVER come here again!!!
Point: rude, poor customer relations, expensiveI give a 2 Star rating now as I noticed they lost their customer relations behavior & prices increased considerably.Annually, since 2009,my grand kids, son & I ,to create a personalized ceremic, always enjoyed , previously rated , 5 star, The Pottery Place on Western Ave, annual earnings rated at 456,000.00 per year.I shared my recent’ Bad experience w/my family & with their comments, I decided to write a negative review.Last week, A few of the Christmas trees being painted & one of the staff was using a tool to clear the Holes in the tree to accommodate the lights.I painted a tree last year and Holes were clogged.I quietly asked the Clerk if I Could bring my last years tree in to have these clogged holes cleared. She checked who came over, said yes, but encouraged me to call Ahead.I called ahead.First to find out when our pieces were ready for pkup, as well as asking about the time to clear the holes in the tree. She checked & said yes but to encourage to call ahead to find out the best time.On Friday am, day to pick up the other items, I called to find the best time. The girl again put me on hold, checked. After an especially long day, this was to be one of my last stops. At the door, After checking my name, went to alert the gal who was to do the cleaning while she retrieved the items we completed the week prior.Last week the staff spoke to us as if we were in a Tobacco auction, spelled out the rules in a split second, escorted us to our table, name, logged in time , etc. was the same person to clear the holes.Last week, We learned upon leaving 2 hrs each person x 4 people @$8.00 = $64.00 along w/ price of the items . We thought she was not clear on her points embedded in that quick overview., but, let theBuyer be Aware. The tree from last year was still wrapped in The Pottery Place Bag, all original paper, receipts, etc in the bag. I Had Inquired three times prior to arriving there. This person, began pulling the tree out of the bag and before the completion, began saying w/a disturbing voice, this tree did not look one of theirs. ??She asked where did I get this one. I turned the bag around & pointed to the label on their brown bag. pulling out the paper wrap, She continued to say it didnt look like their product. For all she knew, Maybe I picked it up at Walmart & want them to repair other companies products. She asked me again where did I get this product.Soo Rude and unnecessary scruitney. At the same time, the owner Amy stepped up and informed me I was rude and they get folks all the time to fix other places mistakes and they do not repair. She was vehement in her staunch support of her staffs scruitny and told me I was rude again. I informed Amy I had called and saw the staff clearing the holes . That process was not done last year. As she contined w/a strong voice. I told her I thought she was veing rude. Amy indicated she was the owner, in Charge, also added they are barely breaking even, etc.Point: rude, poor customer relations, expensive.Other point: if several times, folks come in to have repairs, Amy may wish to add this feature to improve her barely breaking even business. My grand daughter found another place Sparkle Pottery Place in Saratoga we can go on a day off from school. She knows well never Spend time or money at The Pottery Place again.
Had a b day party here. They charged us for 17 people when we had 13! At 20.00 a pop thats 80.00 scammed!!! There reasoning was they gave us a full room of space..smh. Will never go back again and will share my experience with all! This business is out to steal from you. Go somewhere else. Terrible service!
Dont waste your Time - Go to Creative Sparks in SaratogaI called to see if The Pottery Place could turn around some pottery (glaze it) in 6 days (and not 7 as mentioned on their website). The answer was a resounding no way and the 7th day would have been Thanksgiving, by the way. So, I called back to point out that the 7th day was Thanksgiving and surely they would be closed then. The answer was yes, I would have to pick it up the next day, on Friday. I explained both times that this was a gift that we were hoping to drive out of the state with on Wednesday afternoon. If it really couldnt be done, I understand that -- and would have accepted it, but I had a suspicion that if they really wanted my business, it could be done. Solution? I am driving up to Creative Sparks in Saratoga where the nice woman on the phone said, Sure we can do that -- see you later today! Now, thats customer service...
As they say, its $8 per person per HOUR for just the studio fee (paints, brushes, etc.) and then the amount of money you have to pay for the things you can paint is ridiculous. Im not going to pay a total of $30 to paint a mug or 6-inch plate (about $14 for just the piece, $16 for 2 hours.) I can buy a plain mug for $3, so Im paying $28 just for the experience of painting. No thanks.

2022-08-13Its so fun and calm here. The staff is very attentive when you want them to be but hands off once you know the ropes. We spent literal hours here perfecting our pieces and never once felt rushed or pressed for time. Ill definitely be going again!

2021-08-26An excellent place to return time and time again. Theres a girl with black wavy hair whos always there and is very knowledgeable and kind. Her passion for the place shows. I like their business model of paying for what you paint instead of paying by the hour - it creates a relaxed, fun experience. Great decor. Clean bathroom. Pieces are ready when they say theyll be.

2020-12-15Family friendly place. Prices are comparable to other similar businesses. Friendly staff. Nice place to go for a family friendly activity that is both relaxing and enjoyable. Oh, and it’s a great place to have a school-age child’s bday party.

2019-07-25I was looking for something all my girls could do together (ages 3, 5 & 6) and this was a great find. The employees were very attentive and nice. My girls loved picking out their own pieces to paint. Definitely going back!
