The Riverside Church in other cities:
Ive been to this historic and beautifully sculpted church on numerous occasions. These are just two instances. Recently my Dear Sistah graduatrd from the One Spirit School and the ceremony was held at Riverside. She us now Reverend LeVaughn McPherson.Next, the other photis, are from my daughters graduation from the Prep For Prep program whuch was held last August at Riverside
This is the most majestic place on earth. From NC, but attended Riverside Church when my father attended Columbia University. I was able to tour the bell towers. This church is so beautiful! Always said if I could I would fly to NYC every Sunday to attend. This place had a special in my heart!
This church is an absolute disgrace. Why do I feel this way? John 8:44, 2 Corinthians 11:1-15 for starters!
MLK, Fidel Castro, Kofi Annan and Nelson Mandela all spoke from this pulpit to the public. Beautiful church.
Beautiful architecture. If you are in the area you should definitely check it out. Also, Martin Luther King Jr. held a speech here exactly a year before he died.
A wonderfully involved community Church! I was there for a handbell festival but also got to enjoy a moving art exhibit which focused on current immigrant stories.

Saw Verdi’s Un Ballo en Maschera in the Church. It was a great performance with a large orchestra.
It was a beautiful building in a very nice area. The interior had stained glass and ample space for people to sit down and attend ceremonies there, including a second floor balcony. It is in the city so the best way to get there would be by train, parking isnt available at the church.

Enjoyed worship with the Riverside family while visiting the area. Warm welcome, beautiful diversity, impressive leadership. From baptisms to music to communion to the awe-inspiring architecture, it was one of the most uplifting worship experiences Ive had. Easy to feel the love. Ill be back next time Im in town!
What an amazing place. You walk in and feel like you have entered a museum. It is so beautiful and so well taken care of. The workmanship is astounding. Inside the church is even more delightful will all of the stain glass everywhere. You have to go and see it. They have so many great events going on.
What a magnificent edifice! I went their for the Bahai New Year and read a prayer accompanied by a veteran classically-trained violinist. The room we were in comfortably fit over 300 people. I dont know much about this place but I know it most be a staple just by how beautiful the architecture is. If ever in the west part of Harlem, by Columbia / Barnard College, go visit. You wont regret it.
I never thought that I would attend a party at a church. However their Hall space is actually pretty extravagant. I didnt know Riverside Church allowed secular events on his premises, but it does and we had an awesome time. It wasnt overly churchy like you might expect it to be, which was a shocker to me.I think if youre looking for an event space Uptown to support at least 500 people, You should definitely consider reaching out to them.This event that I intended to was a white party, so the outfits juxtaposed to the ambiance of the event space made for very sexy evening. Again I cant believe Im saying that about an event space in a church, but it really was pretty awesome.
Absolutely stunning! Amazing architecture, a sight to see. Unfortunately there were renovations being done while we were there and were unable to see everything. The choir is quite famous and gives concerts regularly.
Beautiful church, even more beautiful staff. Everyone from the members to the staff are warm and welcoming. There is so much that they offer. They dont push you to join or contribute, just to come and listen to the word. The church seems like and family I enjoyed my time there. Anyone would love it and be more than welcomed.

The architecture is amazing. There is no need to go out of the country when we have amazing architecture like this one. They provide guided tours for those who are interested. They are very welcoming there to ALL people and provide a lot of services to different communities.
We popped in on a whim as I hadnt been here since childhood. The security was really nice and helped direct us to the main part of the church. It was far more spectacular than I recalled in my childhood. Even more wonderful was it was empty so I could take in an unadulterated experience with my wife and I. Even more special was the organ tuning that was in progress as we entered.

A Gothic church with undeniable charm. It has a lofty turret which looms in the horizon and you can see it from afar. Within the Church you can feel the Presence. No matter what your belief or religion, the peace you feel here is palpable. It’s architecture and detailed sculptures, tinted windows, grand organ sounds- take you back into another era. Breathtakingly beautiful, soulful building.
A sea of humanity evolved for a common goal and outstanding objective. The appetizers, speeches, hospitality were meet with honor. So many wonderful and brilliant individuals basked the joyous occasion with their presence...I love you for embracing humility, openminded thoughts and your complete persona as you are. God bless. Thank you. I felt so alive. Each moment was reinvigorating.
A historic Cathedral worth reading about before seeing.
My review is completely based as a tourist to this church. First of all, if you are tired entering those church in Europe that requires an admission fee, you should definitely try this one. So relaxing, so welcoming, nothing is locked, and nobody is going to ask you what are you here for. Just enjoy a ten minutes divine moment. Secondly, the church has a school attached to the building, students and staff here are super nice. They are so welcome that someone just enter for restroom and a sip of water is fine. Absolutely incredible place to give yourself a moment to think.
The most biutiful church I visited on NYC.
Church itself on the second floor is pretty nice very expensive place to host wedding though. It has very good sound effects and spacious. They also got a very small place up on 10th floor fits 5 tables of 10 at most. The balcony on the 10 floor is very narrow and the view is alright it just over look a river.
I visited this church 5 years ago when my friends were graduating from high school and their ceremony was held here.The interior of the is gigantic filled with a few niches ,embedded angels and depictions on the walls. The seating is pretty massive and definitely supported for large crowds. And as a few others have mention , yes this church is among the few that does support LGBT.
I have attended the Candlelight Carol festival every year for the last 7 years. It is truly magical. It can be a little difficult to get a ticket but its worth it. The concert is simply magical.The church itself is a beautiful gothic structure. The architecture is stunning. Its an incredible place just to go the meditate.
While visiting my family in NYC, I attended their church, The Riverside Church, for their Space for Grace Service on Wednesday night. I felt the Holy Spirits presence and the unity of the brethren. I was moved and refreshed. The family atmosphere was astonishing for a church of its size. I was welcomed with open arms.
Just gorgeous. Suddenly felt like I was in Europe when looking at it from the outside, and the inside is just breathtaking.
The building is beautiful and is handicapped accessible from the Claremont Avenue entrance. There are also gender neutral restrooms in some places, and all restrooms are available to people according to their self-proclaimed gender identity. The congregations mission statement is open and affirming.

The Riverside Church is beautiful and the team there is professional and TOP notch. I attended a MLK day celebration there and it was well put together. From the greeters, to security; everyone was welcoming.
As an architect myself, it was a pleasure seeing the craftsmanship displayed in every part of the building.. A great structure and definitely a wonderful place of worship 🙏

I brought a friend for a tour of both Riverside Cathedral & Grant’s tomb. The park ranger at Grant’s tomb gave a wonderful insight as to Grant’s influence to the community as it is today👍🌈💞The Cathedral is now being appreciated by all faiths & ethnic backrounds👍We are a a community center at the suggestion of a Riverside docent. We mingled with the people of the neighborhood. It was a wonderful experience and the food was very enjoyable . Thank you💝🌹

A beautiful church to see if your in the area. It is located on Riverside Drive at W 120th Street - W 122 Street. It has amazing views and is a great place to take pictures. Also across the street is General Grants grave site. There is alot to do near by and some good places to eat. Alot of tourists generally skip this area but i highly recommend to historians and people who take interest in this type of stuff.
Stunning cathedral. Dominates the New York City skyline from the North. They provide many cultural institutions a home. If you ever get a chance to attend a concert in the 10th floor concert space, do so. Magnificent views.
For the first time in my life my family and I were walked outside by the gentlemen at the entrance because the sermon had just started. My family and I were surprised by the rudeness the person walked us outside and sarcastically said “God bless you”. Isn’t the house of God supposed to be welcoming? We politely left the church with disappointment and sadness.
If you go on an off peak day, the Riverside Church is a quiet place to sit and think and just be with yourself for a while. We visited on a Friday afternoon and the chancel was hauntingly quiet — it really takes you a world away from the noise and traffic of the city. The church has beautiful gothic architecture, 16th century Flemish stained glass windows, and carvings from French Caen stone. Even if you arent particularly religious, I would say its worth visiting just for its aesthetic beauty and the pleasure of walking around.
There are a a feel of calmness when this church is empty. You cam meditate and relax undisturbed. Its a great place to relieve stress
I was there to see Common the rapper/actor/activist read and talk about his new book. He gave us a mini concert, and had a book signing, it was freaking awesome! We took pictures on the red carpet and everything.
The tallest church in the U.S., was designed and built like a skyscraper. The stone hangs on a steel cage; construction, funded by John D. Rockefeller, began in 1927 and was completed three years later.It also houses the worlds biggest Carillon bell and a medieval labyrinth
This world famous church has something for everyone. It is worth a trip if you are visiting New York. Great if you are in an interfaith relationship and want a place to be spiritual. Also, they have a great wellness program with reiki, massage, etc. that anyone can drop in for services.

I have never been to this church, but, I know a custodial worker that works there. They make their custodial workers work 16 hour days, for 4 to 5 days in a row. Which is very dangerous, and not very Christian. No union. So, cant refuse to work. Shameful.

Fired means person keaves. NOT gets Rich for committing wrong Acts while working for God. Why are Pastors being paid this much salary, a pension PLUS a monthly $8,000 or more housing allowance? Many families in this congregation make far less then $75,000. In email sent by the Chair of the Church Council and seen by @ThePost says Butler will also get a $100,000 “separation payment”– which would take her golden handshake to a total of $594,530, when including her unused vacation payout and the $10,000 tab for her lawyer’s fees. Do we not see this payment as WRONG?
John D Rockerfeller built that church, iconic vaulted ceilings beautiful inlayed tiles. Just gorgeous. Ya gotta see it to appreciate it.

The Riverside Church is a wonderful example of Neo-Gothic architecture, located right in the middle of Harlem. This Christian interdenominational church was conceived and established by John D. Rockefeller. Many areas of the church are open to the public and tours are available.This is a very picturesque destination so dont forget your camera gear.

I went to see an event for the Black African American History. It was beautiful! There were so many activities for kids.

I went to the Food Pantry. It is well stocked. Very well 😊 run, the volunteers are all helpful. All you need is a an ID, proof of address. proof of birth.

I havent been to a service,but the church is amazing, comfortable and inviting
It is constructed in 1930 as Protestant church, beautiful but i am Catholic and protestants can go to hell (not mean).
I went to Riverside Church because they had an art exhibit event and the event goes on from Thursday-Sunday.
They had a wonderful Easter service, everyone was very friendly!

2022-01-07I visited this place as the New York Philharmonic performed Handels Messiah. This was the first time I visited and I found myself completely enamored by the decor and architecture. Everything has a significant amount of detail and the main cathedral provided an excellent acoustic experience.

2020-09-20I had hoped to be able to see the view from near the top of the tower but the elevator only stops at certain floors. It would have been nice to see more inside but what we did see was beautiful.

2017-03-24Thank you John D. Rockefeller for giving this beautiful church to New York City. It is a place of inspiration and beauty.I will miss seeing the loft spire from my penthouse terrace, but alas, I am leaving New York permanently after many years of living in the city.I walked across the street after visiting Grants Tomb to visit the Riverside Church, nicely sited on Riverside Drive with a good Hudson River view.Nearby are the Manhattan School of Music, the Union Theological Seminary, Columbia University, Barnard College and Grants Tomb.Inside is a work of art. It is quiet and peaceful place to reflect or worship, regardless of your religion.

2019-11-14Riverside Church is a great Church, known for its openess and engagement with justice, peace and social equality. Martin Luther King jr has preached here, and reverend James Forbes was for a Long time senior preacher here. The Church is a good place to worship and pray. There lso concerts and art exhibitions here. Highlly recomended.

2016-11-30The church prides itself as being progressive and inclusive, one of the few churches in the city actively supporting LGBT causes. The church exterior catches the eye with its stunning architecture, and the grand interior is just as stunning. There is a small gift shop at the ground level. Upper levels are not accessible when I visited.

2018-05-26Absolutely a stunning historic building in NYC. Doors from Claremont st are always open and a great place to go observe the naive and beautiful stained glass. So much history in this one building. My favorite painter Heinrich Hofmann has his original paintings located throughout the church. Beautiful paintings of Christ in Gethsemane.
