The Salvation Army Family Store & Donation Center in other cities:
Very well organized, almost friendly staffs. I went to check on some vintage furniture for restoration. Quality of items are pretty bad. Back in 2007, items from donations are over the top qualities. Now people’s living standards have eroded and used items are absolutely worn out and cheap ones. I even found some cloths from H&M and Walmart there at this thrift store. But yes this location was the best
This is not a thrift store anymore.I’m not sure who’s in charge of this place but it’s become a waste of time since Maria left management two years ago.Whomever is doing pricing now needs a reality check. I’ve found countless cases where they charge more than what you’d pay for the item BRAND-NEW in the actual place it was originally sold.Three years ago i gave 5 stars and I wrote:“Great place - great deals. People with some extreme capital donate here. Staff price to liquidate - like this West elm couch for $49 dollars.”Unfortunately this place has gone very far south in service and too north in price since then.
Ive never been here to shop in the store, but I have donated items here. I love the work that the Salvation Army does because so many things are wasted unnecessarily!Donating items is a pain-free process and the store is easily accessible. The people Ive encountered here are super nice and helpful. On my first visit, the man on duty even helped me carry the bags from my car, into the facility. They are also open from 730 am until 7pm most days.
Nice store accept anything with decent labels is locked in area called new boutique and all of it is used clothing that is high end labels for $40 to over $200 and more! So they handpick anything nice out of the donations and then charge top dollar for it. Whats the point. Thanks for helping those in need. I wonder if the Salvation Army knows about this...
Stumbled upon this place while exploring the neighborhood. Steps a little daunting when you enter the building. Had no idea if I were even in the right place. Once I got going and explored different floors, found it enjoyable. Clean, well stocked. Staff courteous. Would visit again when I have more time to spend.
If i could rate them with zero stars i would. We scheduled a furniture donation and the driver Ryan didnt want to be bothered moving anything. My discretion, and we not movers maam was all i heard for 2 hours..this was my 2nd time donating furniture and the first experience was great but not this 2nd time around. I guess it depends on the crew thats sent. I think theyve lost their greater purpose.
Hit or Miss on both the goods and the staff. I find some of the clientele rude ripping thru the racks letting garments fall of their hangers and just move on.Got a great Italian leather sofa for a friends new duplex. It MADE the upper level and priced to sell at $200 bucks.
One of the few locations of Salvation army where donations are easier to make. Having said that they have some weird hours for accepting the donations. They accept donations Monday-Saturday till 4 in the evening so I had to go here on Saturday morning to donate the clothes.
As anyone whos anybody knows, all thrift stores are hit and miss. this SA is no different, but it hits more often than it misses. large and equal selection for both sexes with consistently great merchandise. in my five trips there, only once did I leave empty handed. fine cotton shirts, leather jackets, designer jeans.... many rare designer brands to be found, and easily the best SA in Manhattan.
On a cold rainy day I was taken by one of my neighbors to deliver 25 large bags of mens clothing and shoes. Although it is a rough looking warehouse, a helpful staff membe pitched in and the 3 of us deposited our donations efficiently. We did have to make some noise before anyone paid attention to us, but ultimately alls well that ends well
DO NOT DONATE HERE. Despite several conversations with the location in advance, the couch I personally paid to transport to them for donation was refused. In fact, Juan said no in a very aggressive tone to me before he even saw my couch. And apparently he is the only person that can make that call at that location. I was trying to do the right thing and felt belittled by the whole experience. I seriously hope this is not the reputation the Salvation Army is looking to have.
STAY AWAY from this Salvation Army located at 536 West 46 St in NYC because the Clothing Staff is Unprofessional and in NEED of retraining and LISA deserves termination for illegally accusing me in front of other customers of Stealing MY OWN COAT I WALK IN WITH.Sounds Ludicrous but it was humiliating and LISA badgered me vigorously out my coat not being my own. She claimed a co-worker alerted her that I had walked inside wearing a T-shirt and not wearing my winter coat in NYC WINTER 1-23-18.I made it very clear that I would wait for her and her manager who was behind the register not saying a word to check their cameras and clearly see me walk inwearing my winter coat.Whats comical is that I bought my coat at a better managed Goodwill off 135 st and Fifth Ave atleast 5 years ago in the summer for about $20.00 and I have pictures of myself on my phone wearing my same winter coat months ago. This particular location is the WORST Salvation Army in ALL of Manhattan.I was SO OFFENDED I didnt purchase anything and didnt even get an apology.BE ADVISED LISA WILL RUIN YOUR DAY ILLEGALLY ESPECIALLY IF YOURE LGBT.I will NEVER give THIS Location my money plus they always sell torn worthless merchandise.
One of better salvation army locations I have been to on the area... cool items yet more female clothes then mens as seems the case with most... also take donations there as well which is a plus... Dropped off a few bags of clothing in the warehouse area and the employee who helped me was super friendly and polite...
If your lifes trajectory has never found you in a thrift store, its time to take a detour. The Salvation Army is Not only is a Disaster Relief Service, they are an Alcohol and Drug Rehabilitation Center that supports ist services through Thrift Shops.Merchandise Donated by New Yorkers finds its second home via the bright welcoming warehouse on 46th street. Here you will find antiques, quality furniture, and that one of a kind item only found in New York.Only here can you score a set of Brand new Bosch Stainless Turbo Ovens for $375 or a Baby Grand Piano for $200.Take a moment and pop in.. Youll soon find yourself stopping by regularly to search the bargains and its all in the name of Charity.
Easy to find location at the end of 46th st before 10th ave on the North side of the street.Inside you will find multiple floors, each with relative merchandise that one can purchase for very cheapThis place has a great clothing selection on the 2nd floor and nice furniture on the 3rd floor
The store on 46 street has went down so bad that I don’t want to shop there anymore you get rid of the best workers Patricia and now the prices are so high we cannot afford them you have some woman named Lily Erica and some black tall man the store needs to go back to the way it was
This might be the biggest one in Manhattan, but bigger doesnt mean better. Its just more items to rummage through to find what you want. There is a whole floor of furniture, but I have yet to find anything worth carrying up to my apartment. The location is also a pain to get to, so I only stop by if I am already in the area.

2022-03-03I would like to say that my experience at this salvation army was great. The manager Bridgette assisted me with all my shopping needs. There are many things to choose from lots of items with space to look around. Beautiful household items too. The entire staff were friendly which made my shopping enjoyable. Thank you Bridgette and your entire staff I will definitely visit again.

2022-03-25I love coming in here for a long browse. It can be a hit or miss on some days but I always manage to find something. There are treasures to be found at a bargain if you are prepared to shift through hordes of Zara and Forever 21 rags, with occasional period stained jeans. Scores found here so far include cutest Missoni knit skirt ($2.50), an intricate Badgley Mischka silk cocktail dress ($7), Fw2018 Acne Studios blouse ($7) and a Madewell turtleneck wool sweater ($3), all in an excellent condition. Also a decent amount of Y2K style clothes like denim mini skirts and rhinestone emblazoned tops. They also have 50% off and 99c specials on different colour tags too on a rotating basis. Make sure to launder your purchases first!

2021-11-21Today, it will be my first and last time visiting this store. Since Salvation is a reputable thrift store I thought I was going to leave 46th street store location with a bag load of clothes. Well, that wasn’t the case at all !! Price for clothing and furniture is way.. way.. way too… too.. high.. Overly Priced!!! Extremely disappointed!!!

2021-04-02This is where Men help God if I ever saw one. The sheer amount of Love and Support this warehouse and donations center puts in the world is astronomical and worthy of Praise straight from the Source. I am happy to have experienced kinship and communion here, and humbled with thanks to have received help. Not many places (such as goodwill which requires vouchers and will rod people who struggle righteously and deserve no such rod) conduct like the people who work here. The only fault I have found is they are open on Saturday and people such as who work here truly deserve the lords day off without question (we all do, but until that is implemented, we as customers and friends need to advocate for reform regarding Saturday for those who are selfless to us, even with their tests.)

2021-05-04Have supported Salvation Army for years - but because of their recent inability to pick up good quality furniture and four shopping bags of quality clothing- I will not support them anymore. I made an appointment and waited six weeks for a pickup as I was moving to a smaller apt. The day designated for the pickup - no one came. When I called - I was told that their crew was short-handed. However, they did agree to come and pickup packed boxes and a music, tv bench on casters from my place via an elevator. When the man came, he looked at the music bench and said - not what we want — not resalable because it had tambour doors - one of which did stick. Otherwise it was in good condition originally bought for $600. They never gave me a receipt although I was told It would be sent. A number of clothing items and glassware items had store tags as they were presents that I did not wear or need. The music bench was left in the basement and was taken by a tenant in the building the same day who said it was perfect for his large smart tv, DVD player and dvds.
