The Seaport in other cities:
Pier 17 is so beautiful and a great place to eat and drink during the summer. It has about 4 different restaurants, but you definitely need reservations. The rooftop is especially popular. The food is average but I think they know that and know youll go anyway for the spectacular views of the Brooklyn Bridge and the skyline. Malibu Farms was a great lunch spot to relax by the water.
A change of scenery from the populated chaotic shopping malls of midtown Manhattan to an elegant laid back night out. More slow based compared to the other neighborhood shopping locations, yet this place carries along with it an old spirit of what NYC use to be like with its cobbled stones and the smell or the harbor. Fast forward and today the facade still stands true and the one lever store fronts are now high-end retail stores and fine dining from all regions. Private yet public. Well known location yet reserved for the new age elite. Enjoyb
Beautifully renovated East River section of town with modern piers and a brand-new shopping complex. A mix of old and new, Chic and down-to-earth shops add to the flair of the up and coming part of downtown Manhattan at the foot of the Brooklyn bridge. The beautiful new Piers hosting concerts of world reknown stars and Michelin Star quality restaurants and chefs are as inviting as they are enticing.
First time coming back here since it was torn down years ago. Its not entirely opened yet, just a portion, the retail(mall)portion is STILL underconstruction from what I saw and have been told from an employee there. The public has access to its new board walk in the mean time which seems very trendy, modern, and clean. The board walks has tables, chairs, and seating towards the water to enjoy the views and relax. Speakers against the wall for music playing, several mini bars serving beer, a couple of restaurants, and great mood lighting provided by the building itself. It is no where near the feel of the old Pier 17. This version feels more commercial as there are constant promotions all over about the roof top shows and schedules. I miss the old Pier 17. I hope theres much more to this once its 100% completed.
My family and I had a great time exploring the area. I got a great cup of coffee, a tasty bite to eat. Explored some cool shops. The primary purpose of our visit was to take a water taxi to see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. He also had a great close up vie of the Brooklyn Bridge, Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Great place for a family outing. The seaport is completely revamped since Hurricane Sandy. The seaport of old is long gone, this new seaport is very upscale. The Seaport Musuem is reasonably priced, the views of NYC harbors,Bridges and skyline are beautiful and priceless.Thats the only thing thats not pricey. All of the shops and restaurants are very pricey.During the time I visited Lincoln Summerhouse was there giving out free and delicious icepops, and fruit ,vegetable mint infused waters. We went on an old cargo ship tour that was free that day. When the tour is not free its $12.00 for 2 cargo ship tours.Pier 17 building is home to concerts and entertainments.
It used to cater to more people then it does now...NYC is now almost for one caliber of people. South street seaport used to be fun. There arent any more shops or eateries for most working folks unless your making more towards 6 figures but you can always bring your own, lounge and take in the views.
A shadow of its former self through a cracked mirror. Its all corporate-ified. Feels like youre going to The Shops at Columbus Circle or Hudson Yards. The public space is badly used, and large areas roped off for private usage. Restaurants are overpriced, and the seafood I had was watery and definitely previously frozen. Unless I hear its changed, I wont be returning.
The South Street Seaport District basically consists of two parts, the historical district proper, taking up about 2.5 street blocks (the districts boundaries are not drawn precisely) and 3 piers, from 15 to 17. Our review is of the South Street Seaport historic district that stretches from Peck Slip in the east to Fulton St in the west. Developed in the last 15 years or so, with Fulton Fish Market moving to Bronx, the district is filled with restaurants and shops, as well as ice cream parlor (Big Gay Ice Cream), coffee houses, bars and lounges, the latters are best represented by Chase Sapphire Lounge (the holders of Chase Sapphire card get 10% discount there). Most of all of the above are concentrated on Front Street. The art and entertainment are represented by South Street Seaport museum (dedicated to NYC port and maritime history), Cannons Walk (small walkthrough courtyard that has several fireplaces on each side), art installations on Fulton Street, an art gallery located in 10 Corso Como Italian luxury store and cafe, and a new concept of an upscale wine and dine movie theater IPIC (the last shows are usually at 11 PM). Some restaurants are located somewhat outside of Front and Fulton Street, such as Aqua and Bellini (Peck Slip), and the nearby Mark Joseph Steakhouse on Water Street. Speaking of restaurants, to each is their own, but for foodies like us, the South Street Seaport up until now never offered anything attractive, for most of the places are very touristy, but with Jean-Georges Vongerichten opening his newest restaurant Fulton, on Pier 17, the area started to get more interesting.Stores are not as multiple as food outlets, but still, SJP (Sarah Jessica Parkers shoe store), Cynthia Rowleys clothing boutique, Lee Lees Forest (clothing and decor), and Italian designer Carla Sozzanis 10 Corso Como (clothing and home decor) give a visitor several choices. For those wishing to stay in the district, the best choice is the luxurious Mr C Seaport, a member of the highly prestigious Leading Hotels of the World, located right in the very heart of the South Street Seaport, however our recent stay there proved to be entirely negative (you can read in our dedicated review the details of the disastrous experience). To sum everything up - not your most authentic NYC experience, not very different from Torontos Distillery District or Baltimore Harbor or any waterfront gentrification project for that matter, but the cobblestone streets and historical buildings are worth ones time.
I didnt realize this fantastic area existed! We enjoyed strolling the brick streets, viewing the gorgeous harbor, and walking the path to Battery Park. I would love to see more dining and shopping options or perhaps they exist and we didnt explore enough. Either way I cannot wait to go back!
Great place to shop, eat and drink. Check their website for special events, concerts and pop ups. If youre a Chase Sapphire card member youd be glad to know they have an annual summer pop up on Fulton where card members can exclusively get discounts from neighboring shops and enjoy happy hours and discounted meals.
South Street Seaport has come back strong. The new bar out on the water has a limited menu of decent adult beverages from various liquor sponsors (Heineken, Jim Beam, Titos, etc.) and great views of DUMBO and both the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges. There is a restaurant that serves salads and sandwiches and several other fine dining establishments coming.
Born and raised in NY and the places still amaze me. Especially South street seaport. A place full of benches to watch out towards the ocean while you grab a quick cup of coffee or eating at the table. With an amazing view of these antique boats that never leaves dock. One thing I would say negative is just the price of food and drinks of a small store next to the bathrooms which would be located on the right of the pic. The soda cans are $1.99 I usually pay 50 cent or 75 and $1 for a bottle one. But hey theres plenty of food in the area as you go up towards the oculus mall near freedom tower.
Mad fun even in the rain. Came out for the annual NAMI I will listen walk accross the bridge, happened in the rain again! Its a beautiful part of the city and its where we picked up our RJD2 party cruise last summer 😏 Something for everybody down here highly recommend it.
Service was excellent. My family enjoyed it including my 3 year old. I would keep going even through these tough times because they reassure our safety with sanitation pumps and safe mask were on and when the movie was over I have caught an employee come in and immediately start cleaning the pods.
Despite the pirate ship, and maybe a few people saying arghhhhhhh - south street seaport is not just for pirates but for normal people too. Its a cool little joint with lots of food around and lots of bars. Occassionally there will be great public art around there too. I dig the pirate ship tho, even tho it was never a pirate ship. 4/5. would visit if youre a new yorker.
One of the oldest historical sites of NYC.Basically, one of its first neighborhoods, because this is where many immigrants from Europe would first land in the US, after being registered on Ellis Island.Myself and my family included, when we first arrived in America, on board the Italian ship, the Leonardo DiVince.Right after we sailed past the State of Liberty, on the west side, I guess the Hudson river. Here basically youre looking out across the East River .And this was also the place to be, for the 2016 NYC World Championship, of ultimate historical intellectual game of knowledge, chess.Which by the way, one of the greatestIntellectual prodigy geniuses , won.Magnus Carlsen, Swag Dont Come Cheap.🎓💎👑🤴🏋️♂️⚔🔱
Loved walking along the water and checking out the local shops. Also a great view of the water and the Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges. They even have a green space where people were sunbathing, listening to music and reading. Great to see that amidst all of the concrete.
A great little pocket of stores, restaurants, a couple waterfront bars and the port for a sightseeing boat tour company. Fun little cobblestone streets and a few glimpses of the Brooklyn bridge. Definitely a perfect spot for a date night from dinner to a dessert spot to a bar for late night drinks, seemed like plenty of fun options.
This is one of my favorite places in the evening and during non-tourist times, but it is consistently crowded during the days on holidays and weekends. The area has great bars and restaurants, so I’d recommend trying to get there late (after the crowd) so that you can enjoy those places and the view of the bridges, lower Manhattan and the Seaport’s ships at night.
South Street Seaport is one of my favorite places in the city, and is great for day tours and to relax. Ive been here twice in the past 4 months. There are great dining options, although overpriced. Dress warmly in winter times as it gets colder as you get closer to the water. Its often under renovation and hard to get to, but otherwise, its amazing and gives you a sense for how NYC was in the old days. We got to take a free tour of the docked ships, which was nice. Make sure to get there in time take photos with those stunning sunsets!
Visited last week. Changing, and not for the better. In the old section, shops are still open, but not thriving. No carolers or holiday stuff (except for the tree) as in prior years. The pier seems to be emptying out with only two or three restaurants open. Had a nice lunch at Cobbles in the old section (separate review). From midtown, easy to get to (on the red line and a 5 minute walk). Will try it again on a future visit but its not high on my list.
The Seaport is full of fun outdoor places. Can grab a bite to eat and some drinks, sit outdoors, feel the breeze and watch the spectacular view of Brooklyn Bridge. Most places will start to wind down or even close by end of October so this is a great time to come for lunch or after work.
I have always loved walking the seaport. Gorgeous views by the water, and the old wood dock is classic. The new rocking benches at the pier are so cool. As I write this post the pier old pier is gone and the new one isn’t completed yet. They used to have a whole food court, bars and shops like a mall. Now there’s just a bar by the water and a little cafe with expensive hot dogs and such. Hopefully when it’s completed they’ll bring more options.
Great place to explore off the beaten path sights and sounds- be sure to check out the seaport museum for wonder artifacts of the glory days of the seaport: steamships arrived here bringing goods and immigrants to our shores. Check out a little known Titanic memorial (the lighthouse off the road!) and other hidden gems.
Not really a place Id go to shop as stores tend to be on the pricey-for-the-sake-of side. Its nice for a leisurely stroll, especially with the cobblestone pavement and the beautifully restored buildings built in the 1800s. Definitely a hidden gem in a perpetually overcrowded city.Walk toward the water and youll find yourself in a shiny and modern space for retail and dining, again catering to the moneyed lot. I mostly just hang out at the outdoor space, which offers amazing views of the Hudson River and Brooklyn Bridge. So you really dont have to spend a dime to enjoy this place and I like that theyve kept the hyper commercialism that plagues similar places at bay.
This is naturally a very tourist friendly place, with both historic and tacky ingredients. It offers great views of East River, and the Brooklyn bridge. There are quite a lot of shops here, although theyre all on the pricey side. I can honestly say, that i had the yummiest smoothie of my life, inside this establishment. So, definately a place well worth visiting.
Nice area sfor a stroll. Worth a quick visit. Few blocks of pretty old buildings and a nice history. Old ships you can pay to see and a mall that as of 2018 is a pen but still not completed. Nice view of the bridges and harbor. Better views from the other side in Brooklyn bridge park. The stores and restaurants tend to be extremely over priced. If looking for food Chinatown is a 15 or 20 min walk with better good at better prices.
There are a variety of stores with all kinds of items and clothing. But its much more than that. The view of the water, skyline, and Statue of Liberty are just a few things that are free and alone make the trip worth it. Youll see all kinds of ships - from old but beautiful Cutlass sailboats to new and teched-out Yachts. And sometimes you can look around onboard one of the ships if the owner is nice enough. Theres free performances of music, art displays, theatre, and more. Ive lived in the city my whole life and I still never get bored of going there. Definitely a must visit!
Enjoyed a fun afternoon at the South Street Seaport -- interesting museum, lots of activity, music, food, and ships to tour. There are many independent shops in the area and multiple restaurants for all kinds of food -- casual to high end. There are also many food trucks and places to sit.
We have being coming here for years even before hurricane sandy hit. We went yesterday (August 4th, 2018) to chill. The place is fixed nice and trendy with music, restaurants, boats ride, view of East river and theater for concerts. That said, here is the draw back, when you walk around the premises be careful of how you walk cos my lady twisted her ankle from uneven board walk. They have sharp edges of both wooden boards walk and concrete flooring that if one is not careful would lead to fall. They also have steps with sharp edges running all over the place. Granted, the place is still under construction and hopefully they will fix and address these issues. But it was nice and cool. You will fall in love with your mate all over again when sitting there watching sunset. Be careful of the icecream truck outside, a total rip off with ridiculous prices. All in all, we will come back here.
A historic area and fun place to visit. Good views of the Brooklyn bridge from upper deck in the mall section. Best to see on a nice, warm, sunny weekend day when theres apt to be street performers and lots going on. Many restaurants to choose from, ranging from $ to $$$$. The inside mall has some good shops and a food court that is pretty reasonable. If you drive parking in nearby lots is very expensive. You must be living right if you can find free street parking.
Even though the mall is closed, there is still other activities. One kiosk you can take a selfie, get free water, charge your phone and relax or play ping pong. Test drive a Navigator. In the mall area you sit near the water, visit bars and listen to music. Great for a date or hanging out with friends and family.
The South Street Seaport has been around forever but I am glad it is still in such great shape. Yes it brings out the tourists but if you visit, you can still enjoy it. There are many kiosks now some with gadgets and gimmicks while others have food like mini donuts. Outside of the mall are chairs so you could enjoy the views and bridges. Its quite relaxing like a mini vacation.
Very nice area to go on a outing its near the heliport and there are lots of shops and vendors nearby with a lot of interesting stuff for tourists they also have a few very old ships that are huge,Go by sunset they have beautiful lights that shines on the water and you can take some really nice pictures
Nice setting, beutifull views... hard to find public bathrooms; lots of open space bars and restaurants but only one bathroom on the 2nd floor. One bar-restaurant, Farm Market if I am not mistaken, was ooen, had no customer but when I asked ti use the restroom the staff jumped in fron and with a very disturbing attitude make it clear that the restriom ore for clients only... I could have been one, but can not waste my time in such un-courteous place
Excellent location in NYC on the edge of Manhattan Island. You can see the Brooklyn Bridge from there. Good stores, foods, Shops. Can take a water taxi there. Right under the FDR Drive. Not too far from Wall Street, 9/11 Memorial, Chinatown/Little Italy, South Ferry. Etc.
Very pretty and interesting place. it has several vintage restored ships, a little museum. the old buildings have many upscale retailers including Corso Como NY which is a fascinating blend of trendy art gallery, restaurant and store. walk to the end of Pier 17 to get an awesome view of the brooklyn, manhattan and williamsburg bridges.
So much potential, and so little in return...Amazing location, one of the best for the Summer time. Great sitting by the ocean. A view to the river, and to Queens and BK. But beside potential nothing much. Maybe an attraction for tourists, but nothing much to offer for NYCS. Not even a cold corner to read a book by the water...
South Street Seaport a great spot to visit all year around. It offers a variety selection of shopping, dining and entertainment with a beautiful river views. The port locate along the Lower Manhattan Waterfront great to enjoy the view of the east river and it surrounding. Its perfect to sit by the deck outside relax and enjoy the view of east river and Brooklyn bridge.
A place you dont want to miss!Events are going on year round. You never know what will be going on. From Flash-mob to free Salsa concerts. It all happens here. On summer nights catch a boat to travel up and down the Hudson or catch a free movie on the piers.Enjoy the local bars with music and good drinks. Munch at a few of the restaurants and dine inside or outside. Tons of shops and not just for tourists.Great views of the Brooklyn bridge.
Want some great photos? Then come on by. Other than that, this area has never seen comeback NY has hoped for. It was starting to get interesting, and then Sandy completely shut down most of the businesses here. Quiet area to live in though. Usually just opt to bike past it.
Went down today to look at the nee seaport since i have not been down there since after hurricane sandy and the fire i must say there is nothing to do! No eateries that cater to regular class people the 2 places to eat will cost you ur first born and 3 pay checks later 2 its just a big concert venue 3 no more cool places to sit out have a drink grab a quick bite and just sit up on one of the levels and take in the views.. im so upset i hope more opens in that building to make it a mall again!
The newer 2018 version of the Seaport finally opened and they gave it a more modern fresh look. Compared to the previous design, this is a homerun. Its a contemporary fusion mix of wood and metal. Theyve added much more seating areas to the public and an open drinking spot toward the back area.
Ick. Ive been here literally a dozen times and have yet to find anything interesting. The mall is badly designed and the stores are useless. Its difficult to get here. The restaurants are seemingly designed for tourists, with pedestrian tourist food and high prices. When it rains, the streets flood. Still, you might find yourself drawn here to catch a boat (the Ikea shuttle is a block away), visit a farmers market or see an outdoor concert. Its almost not worth the trip and theres definitely nothing else of interest in the neighborhood.
2018.10 Seaport is open, but not the actual building. Only the rooftop is ready, other facility are vacant or still renovate.....the neighborhood the same....not fully open.. Food are consider expensive, hard to find parking. you either park in the parking lot few block away, chk the rate, from $20 to $30 whole day flat parking (on weekend). street parking is limited. or taking public transportation...so think twice bef you going, think of what you want there.
What can I say Historical South Street Seaport!!!Original cobble stone streets and almost ancient original old Lower East Side architecture provides a history lesson to the little ones and provides great selfies on top of the great shops and eats to choose from!!!Come on down.
If I could give it half a star for just being physically there, I would. But it is no longer the same place that my husband and I met up while we dated to eat, shop and hang out. It became some kind of concert venue? I dont know what it was. Employees there are rude as F. No one wants to tell you where anything is. That place is a money pit.
The South Street Seaport is a historic area in the New York City borough of Manhattan, centered where Fulton Street meets the East River, and adjacent to the Financial District. The Seaport is a designated historic district, and is distinct from the neighboring Financial District. It is part of Manhattan Community Board 1 in Lower Manhattan, and is bounded by the Financial District to the west, southwest, and north; the East River to the southeast; and Two Bridges to the northeast. It features some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan, and includes the largest concentration of restored early 19th-century commercial buildings in the city. This includes renovated original mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, the former Fulton Fish Market, and modern tourist malls featuring food, shopping, and nightlife.
South Street Seaport is an awesome place to take your friend from out-of-town, and a great place a New Yorker can go and forget theyre in New York. Theres a small mall, plenty of little shops, restaurants and plenty of events thru-out the Summer months, and sometimes in the Winter. I always love walking on the cobblestone and acting Im day tripping in a different state.
Love Cabana, the cuban restaurant here. Like most other restaurants here you have the option to sit outside. Wonderful views of the river, Brooklyn, buildings, and even the Thriller boat ride that leaves about every 20 min.The rice that was mixed in the paella was okay. It tasted boxed and had too much water mixed with it, losing its flavor. The ropa vieja was also okay, but I have tasted this meal in Miami and think that I am just not the greatest fan of it. Their sangria however was STRONG! You can order it by the pitcher, but one glass was enough for me, haha. The food court is large and spacious, and you have great views from the huge windows and high ceilings. One of the best things about the pier is the free public seating - wooden, yet comfy, lounge chairs that line up overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge (which is very close by) and Brooklyn. If coming to NY or visiting, this is one if the best views you can get of it.
The south street seaport has been a great area for years. right by the edge of manhattan you can go shop, go to the mall, grab a bite, take a boat ride, or even go to the museum there. the port also has an amazing view of dumbo, which is only a bridge away! during the summer there are movie screenings on the pier serving for a good spot to hang out with friends.
The South Street Seaport offers great views of the Brooklyn Bridge, the Brooklyn waterfront and some great big historical ships. Unfortunately the Seaport is still undergoing renovations from Super storm Sandy so some of the businesses and attractions in the area are still closed.
Pier 17 closed as of today! Demolition to begin in October. The seaport area took a very big hit from Superstorm Sandy. The Howard Hughes corporation is redeveloping much of the area and tried the container retail pop-up method this summer. I only went a couple of times, but it seemed somewhat vibrant. They had free outdoor movies all summer on Fulton St with Free popcorn. It is part of their see/change marketing.
The South Street Seaport is a nice relaxing part of lower Manhattan. This is to be where the fish market was located before they moved to the Bronx. There are several different restaurants to eat in. There is a 3 floor mall of small shops and a food court. Enjoy. Plan to spend a few hours here. There are some boats which leave from the seaport to go around the island of Manhattan. Fun.
Spent years getting o n our bicycles and riding our way down to the Seaport District for weekend getaways, for Concerts and shopping and other types of events--all kinds of New York City adventures on the Seaport that are all just a few peddles away...really all good times to be had when in the right head and heart!

2022-04-03The seaport is a gem of NYC. Theres so much to do from dining, shopping, and movies. There is beautiful boutiques and a quaint museum. My favorite part is how charming and picturesque The neighborhood is. It really is a nice change of pace to bring the family and explore.

2021-01-12So nice to walk around or just to relax on a bench to read a book. It has a lovely combination of the city life and the peaceful atmosphere of the sea. Great to take toddlers for a walk too!

2022-05-01I can’t say enough great things about this place.Their bike was amazing. They gave me help on another bike that wasn’t a rental, and remembered me by name when we returned on a very busy day. Could not recommend more !

2019-11-13They have maintained few of the old buildings. Thats really cool to see. There is a old ship and amazing view. Not recommended for winter but if you are lucky to experience fall sun, you are one lucky person. The seating area is amazing surrounded by lot of cool places to hang out or have your food. This place definitely gives out good vibe!

2021-01-02Great place to hang out and walk around. It would be nice though if they more restaurants and shops open. With the Seaport Museum currently closed, it would be great if this city had a big waterfront Maritime Museum. But I love the Christmas tree and menorah they put up every year

2020-10-05Love the sign by the port that speaks a volume. Peace, Love and Harmony. The place wasn’t overly crowded and the weather was just beautiful, parking was a bit difficult but it was well worth it.

2019-07-30Growing up this used to be one of the best places to be. There is not a lot to do, just a bunch of restaurants, lounges, and of course of the boats. The boats are great to look at and be on, but after a while it got boring. Overall, a beautiful sight to be hold. Plus the rooftop concert space isnt to large, but cant wait till Janelle Monae comes!!! 🙌🏾
