I dont recommend using this site. It took 12+ BUSINESS DAYS of order processing before my order even registered to ship. In addition, once it arrived the plants were completely tattered. See pics of reference, the aloe leaves were broken and punctured. The succulent leaves were dead and falling off the bottom.
This order arrived incomplete, missing one plant and one bag of potting soil. The plants were dead and damaged - see pictures below. I received a bunch of the same exact succulent vs. the mixture that was advertised.I reached out twice asking for my money back for the plants and the missing soil with no response. Ive purchased plants through Bloomscape and did not run into any of these issues. Very disappointed with the quality.
My ZZ plant is still alive after more than 2 years!! That’s gotta mean something! I remember the employees here being so so helpful and walking me through the process of keeping my happy plant alive. I actually flew this plant in a box as my personal item and flew it all the way to San Francisco. Happy memories here!!
Happy with my first purchase! Was having a hard time looking for a Snake Plant around the city that doesnt look dead or damaged. Glad I found The Sill and the packaging was so adorable! It was perfect cause Im giving it to my cousin as a birthday present and the little instruction card added a nice touch to it.
I ordered a 6 monstera plant and was very happy with the quality of the plant. The packaging was both secure and aesthetically pleasing! My plant made it from NY to Indiana in the middle of winter safely and in a timely manner! In the week I have had it, it has opened new leaves. Great experience!
I live in Northern Virginia, ordered a Pilea 2 weeks ago, the plant arrived with a couple damaged leaves but overall ok, I contacted them and they sent a replacement for free! Excellent customer service, excellent happy plants, will definitely buy again. 100% recommended
Honestly, just go to your local nursery. Don’t waste your time or money. Got two plants from local nursery back in May and they’re currently thriving. Bought a monstera from the Sill in September, we are now in December and there is nothing left of this plant. This is my second experience with the Sill and couldn’t believe it could get any worse.
NEVER ORDER PLANTS FROM THE SILL. I never write a review, but I have to write this one. I was so disappointed with the Sill. They sent me a half-dead plant. ordered Alocasia California from the Sill and it came in a very poor condition. The stems were folded and the leaves were ripped, dirt was all over the box and the plant. I had to clean up my whole apartment floor because of this. I literally feel like I bought a left-over plant or damaged plant(that could not go to the stores for display). You can buy a better one in Amazon and Walmart. Even a supermarket near your place will sell better plants than sill. NEVER ORDER FROM THE SILL.
The Sill sent me the wrong plants and still has yet to fix it. I ordered eight plants from website. Six plants arrived and two of them were wrong. I tried to contact customer service but it turns out they have no customer service number. I emailed and got repeated promises that they would fix it. One week later - no plants. The customer service is terrible and I would not recommend the company. Go somewhere that cares about getting your order right.
***UPDATE***: The response from the company representative below my review is disingenuous at best. They responded with a fluffy response to save-face with anyone that may read this review. The reality is that this wasnt a glitch (which I can prove). This is a company that sells products before they have it in hand. If something goes wrong with that process (which seems to happen often based on other client reviews), you are out of luck and have to deal with their ridiculous customer service. The Sill took my money and did not provide a product for that money. After 3 requests, theyre not able to produce a tracking number or anything to my satisfaction. They take over 1 business day to respond to every single email to buy themselves more time to find any answer. This is a poorly run service that sells overpriced plants that you can get at your local nursery for 1/3rd of the price.
I wanted to give my mom a nice gift for Mothers day, so I decided to order an anthurium from The Sill. The photos on the website were gorgeous and I was excited to have this tropical plant mailed to her home. Very convenient especially since we were in quarantine. Unfortunately, shipping wasnt easy for the plant and it came half crushed. Got in touch with customer service to ask for a partial refund and was told a replacement plant would be sent. No replacement plant has been received, and its been quite a while. Was recommended to shop on this website by a friend, but I probably wont be a repeat customer.
The people working were knowledgeable and answered all my questions. They provide care cards and explain available resources. They have a wide variety of plants but only wish they had another store in DC.I bought a string of pearls and planter and they repotted it, which took the stress out of having to do that later. They also put the plants in boxes to ensure they didn’t get cold. I appreciate these details. I’ll be back
My husband and I received a plant from this store as a Hanukkah gift from a close friend. The plant was not a plant, but rather a group of cuttings. The cuttings were not mature and should never been sold. I also question if they have permission to propagate a patented plant. The cuttings themselves were extremely packed and would have strangled themselves once they reached maturity. The soil was extremely sandy and was in a pot without drainage holes. Most of the cuttings that had roots had root rot.Furthermore, they shipped a tropical plant during NY winter and didnt require a signature. The plant sat on my porch for God only knows how long and was visibly damaged from the cold. They were so careless with packaging that the soil mix was all over the box and spilled all over my floor.I am a proud plant parent for my whole life. I get plants literally every other month shipped from all over the globe. The quality of the plant and the quality of shipping puts The Sill in my top 5 worst places to get plants from in each category and is easily the worst when you combine both. This is a store front ran by amateurs who dont know how to care for plants.
I have a really bad experience with the Sill. I bought plants before at another plant delivery and it was quite well. However I bought 5 plants from them. It took 1 week for the delivery after they shipped which of course killed the good plants. The money tree and heart leaf plant died within 1 week and the other remaining 3 plants are also dying. I reached out to them and they said I didnt take care of the plants and only provided partial refund. The service was quick and nice but I am never going to buy again. Maybe you might have a better experience at the store, but NEVER BUY ONLINE
First image is what was delivered vs the second image from the website. I was embarrassed by the small size that I had delivered as a gift. It was also over a week past the 5-10day delivery guarantee and I was only offered a 15% discount that didn’t even cover the shipping cost I was charged. I will not be using the sill again.
I decided to give The Sill a try since Ive always ordered plants from bloomscape. But never again! They sent me a plant that had yellow leaves and other leaves were already turning black. I tracked my shipment and it was shipped the day before not far from where I lived. So saying that transit damaged the plant was ridiculous. I contacted customer service and provided them pics for them to tell me it look like damage from transit and my plant would make a full recovery in time. I didnt pay for a plant that needed help. I expected a healthy plant that I could help grow. Not an unhealthy plant that needed work. Btw this plant has five leaves. So disappointed. Back to bloomscape I go.
I ordered three plants from their website and they are just like the pictures they post online. They are beautiful! They packaged the plants with care and the pots they put them in are of high quality. Well worth the money. I’m so in love with these plants that I just put in an order for more!I gave them four stars because it took longer than 7 days for the plants to get to me with no updates. I had to ask if they even shipped my plants because I never got a notification that they were on their way! I’m hoping this next shipment will be better.
Such an incredible company! Their customer service goes above and beyond to create happy customers. I received an Aloe plant as a gift, and it wasnt doing so well after a few weeks. I sent Sill an email asking for advice, and a replacement if it was indeed dead. I received a quick response (less than 24 hours) from a kind and understanding employee. She gave me some specific tips on how to increase the health of my plant, and also is in the process of sending another, despite my current plant not being totally dead. Great, great, great company! Would definitely recommend.
BEWARE!!!!!!After purchasing 4 plants online from The Sill over two weeks ago (1/7), I am currently trying to get a response about canceling and refunding my order.I contacted them (on 1/12) after the first week, once I noticed that my order status still hadnt changed from unfulfilled in my online account. They said to note that my order would take 5-10 business days to arrive. My order status hadnt changed after two more days, so I contacted them (1/18) and asked for an update. Two days later, they responded (1/20) saying one of the plants I ordered is out of stock. My options were that I could swap the one for an alternative plant and get this shipped out ASAP, or they would reimburse the cost of the one plant and get the rest sent along. (Note, the 5-10 business day shipping charge was $25.)I responded immediately asking for a refund on all of the plants and let them know I was disappointed in the timeliness of their response. At this point I have still not received a response, my account indicates my order remains unfulfilled, Ive called every one of their store locations-not one phone was answered, and at this point, I am preparing to contact my bank and report the transaction as fraudulent. I have no idea what else to do.I DO NOT RECOMMEND DOING BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.
I highly recommend The Sill to anyone who is looking to buy plants online!! I’ve purchased well over 15 plants from them (and counting) building my urban jungle & they’ve all arrived in perfect condition. Also, the customer service has been superb — answering all my questions within a day. They’ve even texted me asking how my plants have been doing!! Amazing — I will continue shopping with The Sill & will recommend to all my plant loving friends!! Thank you so much 😊🌱🙏🏻
I ordered five plants online and I received them in a little over a week. Unfortunately, the delivery person was a little careless and left the box on its side. To my delight you guys did a wonderful job packaging my plants and none had any damage or soil loss! All the plants looked healthy and even had slightly moist soil when they arrived. Im very pleased with my first order and will definitely be back for more. Thank you for feeding my new addiction, The Sill!
Wonderful selection of plants and great customer service! Ordered the set of six succulent plants (miniatures) and am thrilled. The set includes a nice variety of plants that will be adorable in a variety of pots/planters. I had a slight issue with two of the plants being damaged during the shipping process and the Sill Customer Service folks were prompt and so gracious in replying to my inquiry! I will definitely order more items for myself and for gifts!
I ordered a plant on December 15th and it still hasnt arrived(currently January 26th). It was supposed to be a Christmas present for my mother. I messaged them about it and they said I had ordered (and paid) for a plant that was already out of stock. They never followed up or made sure that the money was refunded or that the order was completed. Definitely wont be shopping here again.
Made a pricey online purchase in early Aug. I have yet to receive a fulfilled order. Shipments contained poorly potted plants with minimal and dry soil. The easy care cards they claim to include where not included. Save yourself the money, time and frustration and just go to The Home Depot.Update: all plants finally arrived after about 2 months. Dropping to 1 star. The soil the plants came in were INFESTED with gnats in. I had to repot everything with new soil. Again, Home Depot to the rescue.
I ordered 5 plants and some plant food from The Sill a few weeks ago. Shipping was quick and the plants were all packaged extremely well. Paper wrapper around the actual plant and bubble wrap around that, with packing around the stem of the plant as well. I think I only had 1 or 2 leaves fall off in shipping, which I think is great for a plant that traveled from New York to Missouri. A week after they have arrived and they still look great. They have fluffed out and regained their shape after being packaged. I will definitely order again and will keep and eye out for new additions to the stop. Prices are comparable/better than other online nurseries that Ive come across and I had a great experience.
I’ve bought plants from The Sill (large orders, too) twice and the customer care team was so attentive. No robot responses, emails/Instagram messages came from real people. Everything comes packaged perfectly. I was very skeptical about ordering plants online because I had no clue how they could arrive safely and intact, but the sill has figured out how to do it. None of my plants have every been damaged or dying or in bad shape. They always look as amazing as the pictures. I was very impressed that my monstera plant immediately began sprouting new leaves, some even with the signature holes that are supposed to only come from very mature plants. Overall I’ve had a great experience and have recommended the sill to basically everyone who would listen. I even signed up for their new plant club membership where they ship you a surprise plant each month. Some of the same plants at garden centers are going for quadruple the price, so unless you’re into taking a lot of time to grow some of these plants from seeds, I think they offer an extremely good value.
Was gifted a 3 month plant subscription forMy birthday. Was super excited but a little bummed you couldn’t choose to only receive pots with drainage holes. Like, plants need to drain? Anyway, first month pot broken..and zz plant looks terrible (which if you know a zz plant is incredibly hard to do). They send a replacement fern which looks like death but I don’t say anything. It’s since been discarded. Month 2...plant completely dead. Pot was in tact..wait a few weeks and they send a replacement plant that looks healthy. We will call month 2 moderately successful. Month 3 was just delivered and sure enough the pot is completely shattered. This feels like a startup that is good at marketing and not much else. Was gifted a 25 dollar credit for all their mess ups..but literally would rather not deal with them then use it. Customer care reps seemed nice via email..but save your money and support a local independent garden center - this company is a money grab that doesn’t know plants
The Sill has really impressed me. The online format is clean and short-forward. They offer a Pet-Friendly plant section, which really helps in finding cute plants for a pet household. I ordered four plants, and three out of four were high quality. I notified The Sill of the sick plant, and they immediately responded; they let me keep the sick plant to try to mend it and are sending me a replacement in a few weeks when the plant is back in-stock. I already placed another order for more plants, and I will definitely continue using them.Very happy with The Sill!!
I ordered two plants. One was in good condition but smaller than expected. The other was not only pretty smashed up from being shipped, but also the majority of its leaves were dead or dying. The packaging it came in also snapped a lot of its stems. So disappointing. Like I said, my other one was okay, but I won’t order/buy from The Sill again because of the condition of the second one. I have messaged The Sill and hopefully they refund my money on the one damaged plant!
When I put my first order, they gave me something thats totally different from the photo online. While I understand that its a living plant, it wont look exactly the same, but the difference so so big that it was a total disappointment. My snake plant came with 2 leaf while on the website is about 6 or 7? My other snake plant came with the tips bent. Snake plant wont grow out when tip is cut off and the tip is bent to the point it needed to be cut off. Customer service was SUPER nice, they were willing to refund me, but they also said theyll happily send a replacement without having to send it back. Thats what I opted for instead of refund because I do want the plant. I got the replacement with the soil and rock to replant them. Very happy with customer service. At the same time, I find that its much cheaper if you go to the nursery yourself to buy the plants.
Ive bought plants from the plant district and they have never lasted long, are unhealthy and/or have those little gnats. The Sills plants are ALWAYS healthy and beautiful — on top of their amazing customer service. Ive bought 14 different plants from them over several months and theyve all survived this black thumb. And, Ive just signed up for their #PlantParentClub which goes to show how much The Sill has made me into a greener thumb. Will always be a customer!
This is my first time leaving a review but I felt that I needed to share my experience! I bought three plants online on Saturday, they shipped Monday, and they got here Wednesday! It was much faster than I thought, and I’m glad I didn’t have to wait long because I was very excited. The box was a little dented from the delivery and at first I was worried, but all the plants were very well wrapped and protected. They come wrapped in brow paper and the pot is stuffed with little strings of paper/wood and rubber banded. There was a very small amount of soil that spilled in the box. All the plants looked absolutely amazing. I bought my dream plant, the Monstera deliciosa, in a nursery pot (which is still young and has no splits and a lot of leaves!). I also bought a rubber tree and a neon pothos. There were about two small leaves on the monstera that had turned yellow and fell off in the box, but the plant has about 15 leaves still and all look very green and healthy! I inspected all the plants closely and found no signs of pests, and the soil is still moist on all three. The website is a little pricey, but I read that it’s because they buy from local sellers, and id much rather spend extra money to support ethical businesses than buy from a big box store. Overall, I could absolutely not be happier with my purchases and I definitely will be buying again!
Like many people, I had a strong need to buy plants during these shelter in place days. I ordered two plants on April 12th and finally received the plants on April 30th. The wait was frustrating but understandable considering the demand. However, what was ultimately so disappointing was that one of the plants was delivered with the base of the planter on top of the plant which broke several stems and ripped the most prominent leaf. I reported this to Customer Service and they simply said thats the nature of shipping the plants. Their solution was to give me $15 off my next purchase (which I do not intend to use). Now Im stuck with a survival project instead of a happy, healthy plant. WILL NOT BE ORDERING FROM THE SILL AGAIN.
*****Have to change my review****Went to the UES location, not only were the employees rude AF but ignore us and refused to help. I was willing to spend upwards of $250 for a few plant I wanted but the very rude guy behind the desk had no time for me. I ended up buying a smaller plant because they refuse to ship the large pant to me. Disappointing since I’ve purchased 6 plants with pots for me, recommend to several people who have purchased plants and even sent some as gifts. Needless to say after the very rude employee argued with me for a good 20 minutes and the fact that they refuse to ship, even though I have received 4 plants from their online store, I will no longer be recommending The Sill nor will I be purchasing from them again. The following no longer applies -I love the care and effort The Sill puts into every pot. I recently ordered two medium plants in beautiful pots. I loved them so much that I found myself back on the website that same night ordering two more plants! So in love with my new plant babies!
I wasnt sure what to expect having flowers shipped across states, but The Sill has totally exceeded my expectations. The plants arrived wrapped very carefully, with hand warmers inside the packaging to make it like a greenhouse! They were exactly as I expected quality wise and came with instruction cards on care and maintenance. The plants totally brighten up my house and I cant wait to keep watching them grow!
I recently received my order from The Sill and I was honestly shocked at how poorly it was packaged/delivered. I opened the box as instructed and everything was covered in dirt/stones. I ordered the $30 succulent assortment and they were all scattered and crushed at the bottom of the box. I salvaged what I could, but that involved me plucking succulents out from dirt and trying to put them back into a base. The other plants were wrapped only in brown paper and were flopped over each other. My apartment floor was covered in dirt as soon as I tried to remove the plants from the box and the box itself had an inch layer of dirt at the bottom.I had high hopes for the jade pothos plant, but it has only been out of the box one day and it is already wilting. Furthermore, the care instructions were missing from the box.Definitely not worth the money.
EDIT: I spoke to Chrissy, who offered to send replacements for the two unpotted plants or store credit. I took the replacements and they arrived very fast, within 3 days. However, the condition of the box was even worse. It was completely crushed in on one end, resulting in a very sad rubber fig. The other plant survived, thankfully, but I really dont think Im going to try a third time here. I also feel like their ads are a little misleading because they dont seem to actually package their plants for shipping as shown. The plants just come wrapped in a brown bag with some protection on top of the soil, didnt help that much from spillage. Same as if you buy them in person from a nursery. Or maybe the extra care is reserved for when you buy an expensive planter to go with? Added a star for Chrissy and another for them at least trying to make it up.___Not sure why I ordered from here when the shop is in NYC and I live in LA. I had a superb experience with a similar online service earlier and wanted to try this one out. I ordered four plants, all shipped through UPS 3 day. They just arrived today, 2 out of 4 were completely unpotted with soil spilled EVERYWHERE inside the box. The 6 inch rubber fig i got has completely wilted over, already dropped 2 leaves. We had a heat wave strike today so I was alert and waiting for my package to arrive, and even met the UPS guy at the door only for him to practically throw it down at my feet, so not entirely the Sill’s fault. However, couldn’t they have at least shipped in a box marked “this side up??” Honestly it looks like only 1 out of the 4 plants are going to make it :( This is disappointing, as I could get the same plants for much less at my local nursery.
In my genuine efforts to obtain a Rubber Tree plant I found The Sill while researching online plant shops that would ship effectively and affordably to the Midwest.I ordered from The Sill a 4” Rubber Tree plant the following evening and my total was $11 after using a $5 off coupon code I found on a website, Groupon, or something of the sort!My shipping experience was horrible. There was a delay which left me waiting for a few more days than expected and it should of only taken around 4-5 days to get here, as I am in Indiana, not Cali.Packaging was nice, the plant was secure but the majority of my issue with The Sill was that my plant came invested with spider mites. Luckily some warm soapy water spritzing for a few days took care of it, I have read in a FB group from other customers dealing with the same issue. The plant came with yellowing stems as well, which I hope doesn’t result in root rot or anything of the sort.I ended up giving the plant to my mother, in efforts to rid myself of this annoying reminder of a purchase that should of been made at my local shop, so I could get hands on experience with all that was available in efforts to benefit a bit more with a healthy plant.I rated three stars due to the spider mite issue I faced as well as poor tracking details (they don’t send updates, you have to put in so much information for vague information).I’m not blaming the company entirely for this poor experience, because so many people genuinely adore them! And I haven’t ever really gone this in depth about an experience ever before! I will be ordering at least one or two times more to get a better idea of who these people are as a company in order to fully review better for my blog. All products were bought with my own money. This is not a paid review.
Had a plant delivered and it was dead. I purchased the insurance for the plant so if something happened on the delivery route it would be covered - emailed them a photo and they said they couldn’t do anything and then the route insurance company said that cold weather was out of their control. Total rip off, highly recommend on not using this and just purchasing a plant yourself from your local nursery.
I ordered three plants with some hesitancy, how healthy could they be arriving in the mail from out of state. I was very impressed when the plants arrived. They were obviously packaged with care. All three plants arrived healthy and beautiful. I will definitely order from the Sill again.
Nice place with great welcoming and friendly staff. You can pretty much get all your Instagram famous plants here at decent prices. They have a very nice selection of plants with all different care requirements for plant parents of every skill level. A nice plant shop for experts and beginners alike.
I really enjoy visiting The Sill. Although the store is small it offers a really nice diverse selection of healthy plants, ranging in size from the cutest teeny tiny plants to tall ones upwards of 5 feet. They also offer a nice selection of pots, so whether you prefer nude terra cotta or bright red painted clay pots, or even the lightweight (I think theyre fiberglass) pots, there is something that will fit your taste. The staff are sweet and knowledgeable and will repot your new baby in the pot you choose. They are very patient and will answer any of your plant care questions and I truly appreciate their enthusiasm for doing what they do. AND the prices are not bad at all, very affordable.
Really wonderful experience. My first order I got a satin pothos and a burgundy rubber tree. The rubber tree didn’t even look like it had just been shipped- it was in mint condition! Unfortunately the pothos had yellowing leaves and some of the stems broke. I gave it a few days but the leaves continued to yellow. I sent pics to customer service and they offered to send a new plant or refund- I asked for a store credit. They gave me a coupon code and I immediately made a second purchase of a silver philodendron (the satin pothos was out of stock) and a starfish snake plant. OMG the starfish snakeplant was just as pictured and was basically two plants in one pot! For 12$! That is the cheapest I’ve seen this kind of sansevieria! It is huge and thriving- not a single blemish or imperfection. The silver philodendron was wonderful too, with MANY leaves, it was so full and is starting to put out new leaves. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars! Too bad I don’t live near their in-store nursery or I’d be there everyday! Fantastic customer service, truly. My ONLY qualm is that I wish they had more of an online selection and more new plant varieties to choose from! Can’t wait to make my next purchase but I’m waiting for something new that I don’t already own haha :)
I ordered 3 plants - a philodendron, a peperomia and a calathea. They came in today and they are perfect! I was honestly nervous because I have had negative experiences ordering plants online from other places, and I got home from work at 10 pm and no one in the house realized the box had been on the porch in 35-40 degree weather.. but they were in beautiful condition! Ill be a repeat customer for sure!
I originally got a plant with some flies and mold on it, and was so SO bummed. But, I emailed the Sill and they were immediately helpful—they sent me a replacement and advised me on ways to heal my original plant. They were patient and kind, and I really appreciate it. Shout out to Victoria! You rock.
EDIT: I’ve received prompt response from the owner herself, rectifying the situation. I’ve changed my review from 1 star to 3 based on her alone.................................I was really excited to order plants from The Sill. I had high expectations because of the buzz surrounding them on social media and what not. I ordered 8 plants with a free pilea. When I received my plants, 2 were heavily damaged, the pilea had damaged leaves and the rest were very disappointing in size. The plants I received did not amount to what was advertised or pictured on their website. So, I reach out to customer service and emailed pictures of the plants I received and an explanation as to why I’m disappointed in each. At first, they were responsive and offered to replace the 2 damaged plants. When I responded and asked what their complete return policy is, they emailed back offering a 50% credit for the total of my order. They also said, and I quote “We would generally offer to send replacements, but we would hate to see you equally as unsatisfied with alternatives.” So my take on this was that if I wanted replacements, that would have been an option but they’re being considerate and would hate for me to receive subpar plants again. So I email back clarifying if I chose replacements, would my whole order be replaced and this time I get an answer from Operating Manager stating only the damaged plants would get replaced. I’ve since written 3 responses voicing my opinion on the matter and I have yet to receive a response from anyone. It has been more than 48 hours since their last email to me and a week since I received my plants, still no resolution to the matter. Disappointed and quite honestly, ticked off at the lack of response. I feel like I’m getting ignored at this point.
I’m sorry to report that the plants delivered from The Sill were extremely disappointing. I ordered a series of succulents to be delivered as a house-warming gift. In the photo online they seemed “normal sized” but when they arrived, each one was in fact about 1 inch tall! And wilted. Covered in Saran Wrap. Horrible packaging. Horrible presentation. Beyond horrible false advertising. I give The Sill one star because they graciously refunded my payment. Their product was sadly zero stars.
We came here for a terrarium making class and it was fantastic. Not only did the class include the supplies to make a terrarium, but it also included wine and a ton of knowledge. The class instructors were helpful and assisted even when our terrariums were looking lost and messy. I would definitely recommend coming here to buy cute gifts for friends and a little something for yourself to brighten your apartment.
Its a fairly small store front so theres limited selections on display. Staff was very friendly and knowledgable about the plants. Went 20 min before closing on a weekday and there were 2-3 others also shopping around. If there were more than 5 people in there it would feel crowded. Overall decent in store experience just for the convenience and ability to ask questions to staff. If you live farther away though I would definitely just order online.
Just be aware, their plants are TINY! For the price of the pots included, my three plants at $116 were delivered and seemingly stolen from Lilliput. Not taking away the fact that they are cute but in terms of value for money, Its worth going to a flower market or home ware store as they are overpriced and small.
Lovely plants, really like the little care cards that comes with each item - makes it easy to decode how to keep them indoors. They have some basic essential plants plus a couple more exotic ones I hadnt seen before. Update - these guys also taught me via email how to keep a fiddle leaf fig alive - something Ive had a hard time for a few years now. Thank you!
After reading so many awesome reviews, I was more than excited to visit this shop. Unforetunately, I will NEVER shop here again. The shopping experience was not enjoyable. I saw a plant and wanted to buy it. I called the store several times - no answer. Emailed the store - no response until I had already showed up to the store to make the purchase. The plant was sold. I was disappointed. I understand that merchandise moves. I understand that this store has good plants. My losing out on the plant did not damper my experience. It was the owner who tainted my shopping experience. I explained how one of sales representatives suggested that I email the store and they would allow me to make the purchase over the phone. She responds, Oh, that plant is common. You can always get it somewhere else. Shes new. She doesnt know. Her tone was, put lightly, very condescending and rude. Not only did she throw her employee under the bus, she was unapologetic and dismissive. I will take her advice and get it somewhere else. So if you enjoy plant shopping in a cramped space with horrible customer service, (specifically the owner, the other sales rep was nice) this is the place to go. You will have a pretty plant, but the process is less than desireable.
I am so beyond impressed with The Sills customer service and attention to detail. They have been prompt in replying to emails, have beautiful products and deliver their service with kindness. It was my first time ordering with them and looking forward to continuing to do so in the months ahead. Thank you, The Sill!
I just received my package today and I am estatic! After reading reviews I was unsure of what state my plants would arrive in, since hiccups can occur during delivery. My plants were securely packged and are in great health! I am so pleased with The Sill, I will be making many purchases in the future.
Hello i ordered plants for my daughters BD and they were lovely and she was so pleased. Consequently I ordered for my other daughter in SF on 11/30 and she still hasnt received them and I have attempted to contact you in every way possible...emails, phone messages to stop the order bc she is now out of town for 3 weeks and the plants will die if delivered to her apartment. I really hope to hear from you. I do understand that this is probably a very busy season for you but please respond! Thank you.
Ordered a gift and at-first, was disappointed on two fronts: First, that it took 10-days to ship (website says up to 7) but I was told the delay was to ensure a great product was delivered. Second, that when it was delivered, the plant (a gift) was very small compared to the product pictured.I have to say, I would give a very low-star review if the CEO herself hadnt reached out to make sure to turn my experience around. She immediately refunded the cost of the plant that was sub-par and offered to send a larger one. She clearly truly cares about her business and her customers and wanted to make sure I had a positive experience. So, 4-stars is because I think the product received should match the product shown on the site. And if it wont, a disclaimer should be provided. Maybe there was, maybe I missed that disclaimer, but I appreciate the concern and follow-up from the CEO.
I ordered a Pilea off this website and was extremely excited to receive it the plant cost $13 with the cost of shipping my total came out to $27 and I didn’t think twice about spending that money I sat around so excited waiting for this plant to come in the mail and once I received it and I got it out of its packaging every single leaf on the plants fell off of the plant the roots were so dry and the plant look so sick that I have no clue what to do with this plant I just spent all this money on. I’ve reached out to this company and have yet to hear back about how the are going to handle this situation or if I’m at a complete loss. Not happy at all
I dunno how these guys can ship plants all the way to California and have them do well...but they do! I got a snake plant and a ZZ plant a couple weeks ago, and theyre both adapting very well to their new home. The ZZ plant was a little bent out of shape upon arrival (one of the branches seemed to have been pushed far to one side during shipping), but once repotted and encouraged to straighten out, it responded just fine. Love the customer service and care The Sill puts into their plants, packaging, and interaction with customers!
So I want to start off by saying that most of the plants that I received were beautiful. All of those being the snake plant, ZZ plant, pothos, and the silver philodendron. The other that came was a calathea. This plant had come with multiple yellowing leaves and others that were brown and wilted on the edges. I had emailed the info desk about it and I received an email back from one of their plant scientists saying that I should give the plant more light and that it probably has a small infection. I did as told in the email and it proceeded to get worse. I have lost about 2 leaves. The rest of the leaves are brown on all edges and/or wilting, and any new growth that opens is completely dead on the inside. I would recommend not ordering that specific plant from them again but the rest are beautiful.
Yesterday I went to return the damaged shipment as per as online rep Paris’s email but the guy who was working at upper west store around 7:30pm refused to do the replacement even though I told him I spoke to online team via email, I came all the way from Jersey with the box still big NO, I told him to speak to a store manger then he said she’s not picking his call, store manager is off during working hours?? Are you guys f in serious ??? Horrible customer service from upper west store!!
I recently attempted to purchase plants for my office at The Still. On my first attempt, I found upon arriving at the store--during its supposed open hours--that it was randomly closed. A sign read: try again tomorrow :) or something to that effect. On my second attempt, the store was open and I selected several plants, only to be told that neither of my credit cards worked because the system was down. I left the store without any product, only to find a charge for $61 on my card statement later that day. After calling The Sill repeatedly and leaving MULTIPLE voicemails, I resorted to filing a claim with my credit card company, finally resolved today. No representative from The Sill ever responded to my calls or messages; the store has had at least two weeks since receiving my first message to respond. TLDR: The Sill has a decent enough (though rather small) selection of products, but customer beware--the store may be unpredictably closed, and you may spend several hours of your life attempting to recoup the funds if you dare hand the cashier your credit card.
Nasty, snotty, condescending. Lady was literally potting up plants and refused to unpot the only variegated caperata in the store, would only sell the 8 dollar plant in an ugly 40 dollar pot. Said it was for the health of the plant as though they aren’t basically bulletproof. If youre inclined to lie in order to either upsell a pot or be lazy, do it to someone who doesnt know any better. Nothing special. Save your money and go to literally any of the other better stores in Chinatown.Regarding the owners response. If repotting is so tremendously stressful on the plants, why not just use the overpriced pottery in the store as cachepots. That way the roots stay nice and safe, and nobody has to buy a 40 dollar pot to get the plant they want.
ONLINE SCAM!! BUYER BEWARE!!Items never get shipped DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!! Nothing ships so you wait for items that don’t come. Shipping and items is expensive. Use other service like Bloomscape or Léon & George. Amazon and Etsy also more reliable for plants, not so expensive.
I love The Sill. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Most recently, I bought a Calathea, which folds up at night and follows the light flashing different colors on the tops and bottom sides of its leaves. I also bought two baby marimo moss balls to keep my first marimo, Fluffy, company.
I recently attended the Plants 101 Workshop at the UWS location - the small store makes VERY good use of the space and everything looks very healthy and well cared for - i enjoyed the class and hope they offer Plants 202 for those of us who already know the basics - the plants i purchased at the store that evening are doing well and i expect to purchase more in the future - PS: when you attend a workshop they offer a discount on all plants purchased that same night :)
I am happy with the response I received from Eliza & The Sill. The issue with the Decorative Monstera Leaves has been corrected. My other part of the order with nine potted plants and a freebie arrived well packed and in good shape. Thanks to Eliza and the team at The Sill.

2021-12-28Update -- Did eventually receive a refund after emailing further but not of taxes and shipping paid... Original review -- Received 2 diseased plants (with bugs). Immediately sent in attached pictures and was asked for more pictures (and then was told by the happiness team that the plants look healthy). Was offered a very small discount on a future purchase. Why would I ever purchase a plant from them again? There is NO phone number to call for customer service. For the price, completely unsatisfied with product and service.

2022-02-05I want to love and support to this new yorks business - the sill but i am very disappointed the customer service. i emailed twice and no response after the plant shipped. it was somewhat understandable the delivery took a week (from chicago to seattle); however, dont they have flower farms or teams in the west coast? the flower arrived and it was poorly wet and droopy ... i am very upset. i just email and sent the photos, and crossing fingers to hear them by this weekend/monday.

2022-04-01This place is the absolute worst. Customer service here is borderline non-existent. I ordered a plant with a gift card, after 3 weeks a plant arrives...and its a completely different plant. Not even close to what I ordered. Another 2 weeks for the customer service team to reply and tell me theyre shipping the correct plant. Another week goes by and I hear nothing so I follow up on my own....4 days later I hear that the plant I ordered is now sold out and I can choose from 4 alternatives. I opt for a full refund instead. Order a new plant a month later and the shipping address that is on the tracking info isnt my address. I catch it and email customer service immediately, they write back and assure me that they updated the address before shipping....guess what plant was just delivered to a total stranger because nobody updates the shipping? Cant speak to the physical storefront, but avoid dealing with this scam site at all costs

2021-12-16I wouldnt buy anything from them again. The box arrived crushed. Not The Sills fault. BUT, the small Christmas tree had several broken branches. So I contacted them. They said that the tree was healthy so they wouldnt do anything. I explained that it was broken and didnt look like a Christmas tree any more so we wanted them to replace it. They refused and kept saying that the tree was healthy and the branches would grow back. ITS FOR THIS CHRISTMAS!Finally after going back and fourth via chat they offered a refund, but would not replace the tree.Their customer service is awful. I felt like I was chatting with a non-native english speaker and their expectations of good customer service and Christmas as a whole were very low.

2022-06-26Ordered a large Monstera; the plant we received had virtually every single leaf ripped, blackening or completely shredded. Customer service told us it probably happened in transit as though were complete idiots; how does the inside of a box shred leaves? They wanted us to trim off about half the plant and try and regrow it ourselves. Got our refund eventually, which was the positive. I understand plants can recover if trimmed and treated well, but if youre going to charge 3x the average store you need to bring some sort of value to the table, and The Sill brings absolutely none.

2021-10-01Loving the bird of paradise I just received as a birthday gift. Packaged very well and the plant and the pot are both in excellent shape! Thank you to The Sill!

2022-02-02The Sill has provided the absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced from an online vendor. Buyer beware! After receiving two damaged plants, I have had to send countless emails before getting a response from customer service. They still have not responded or refunded plants which I never received, and I have sent no less than 7 emails on the subject. Be prepared to lose your money if anything goes wrong with your order. This is the only google review I have ever submitted and it is only due to my extreme frustration with The Sill.

2022-05-23I ordered 3 plants from the sill during their sale, and the pothos and Zz plant arrived in perfect condition. The fiddle leaf fig tree, on the other hand, has been a nightmare.First, they sent the wrong tree (they sent a bush instead of the tree) and it arrived upside down with no packaging in the box to protect it. I ended up keeping a plant, but it is extremely damaged and lost several leaves in transit. When I reached out, customer service was AMAZING and sent the correct tree.Unfortunately, when the tree arrived, I noticed it was covered in webs. I sent an email asking about them, and bathed each leaf in the meantime just in case it was just cobwebs from the greenhouse. It’s now a couple of weeks later and all of the webs are back- they’re spider mites. The tree is completely infested and I just hope that this hasnt spread to the rest of my (enormous) plant collection. I will never be ordering from the sill again.

2020-08-27I received a “large” monstera as a birthday gift here, and I was so disappointed by the quality of the plant. It almost looked like they shipped me the plant that was left in the back of the store for months without attention. There was dust all over the leaves. DUST. NOT DIRT. And it looked absolutely NOTHING like the pictures that they used on their website at all. Some of the monstera leaves were breaking apart and were completely cut in half. I wasn’t gifted a plant to have to rehabilitate it from the start. Even the newly grown leaves had discoloration and black holes. The edges of some new leaves were completely blackened and unable to be saved. In the middle of large leaves were random holes. Additionally, some leaves were just completely split in half.

2019-12-11My company uses the Sill for employee reionization gifts. I got a gift card as a thank you from one of my coworkers and was so excited about their amazing looking plants that I used the gift card and used my own money to add some more plants to the order.First off the order took over 10 days to process and ship from Los Angeles to Portland and when the plants arrived all three of them were dead/the pots were destroyed. I have immediately contacted customer service for a refund and will post updates if I get a positive response.
