This place has seriously exceeded my expectations. I was trying to look for places that could make me a custom suit, but eventually stopped looking as I came across The Tailory NY. This was my first time getting a suit made from here and I was a little apprehensive at first as I have been getting my suits from another place for years now, but I wanted to try a new place. Having important interviews coming up in the next few months, I needed this suit quick as I pushed it to last minute, and The Tailory NY was willing to help design and make it with perfect dimensions and all. What I really loved about this place was that Silke was so willing to hear my input for exactly how I wanted my suit designed and also were so punctual and detailed when it came to crafting my suit. They even take the time to schedule multiple fitting appointments with you to make the suit perfectly fitted to you. With COVID and all they were even willing to do it virtually which I was very shocked to hear. Rather than an arduous process, The Tailory NY made this experience feel like an adventure. This is now my go-to suit for interviews and special occasions. This is all thanks to The Tailory NY. I will definitely be coming here again for my future suits.

I struggled to find a custom tailor in New York that didnt feel either canned and stodgy or corporate and impersonal. The team at The Tailory crushed it from beginning to end.I had only a vague notion of what I was looking for in a tuxedo for my wedding, and the team at The Tailory took the wheel with grace and expertise. Truly looked forward to every interaction and fitting. They took some unholy number of measurements, and delivered a suit that fit me perfectly and had me feeling like James Bond on my wedding day.
The Tailory New York was the most amazing experience I had creating and designing my dream suit that came out perfectly tailored to my body. Silke and Shao were so lovely to work with and I honestly could’ve stayed for hours. They showed me the way with such strong guidance and ease, that I never felt doubt in my mind once during this entire process. I can’t wait to come back and create more powersuits!
I had a stellar experience with The Tailory through their mobile pop up in DC. I greatly appreciated their guidance on fabric choice and suit details (lapel shape, venting, shoulder pads). I also felt that they had a relatively transparent communication style - despite small hiccups in timing of the suit delivery and the fact that they did not come back to DC for follow-up fittings. All in all, the suit turned out beautifully - and I got so, so many compliments on it! I would recommend The Tailory and their services for anyone looking for a unique, custom suit.

The Tailory exceeded my expectations! From my first inquiry on their website to the personal delivery of my suit (thank you, Silke) The Tailory went above and beyond to make sure I had a positive experience and the exact suit I wanted. I am so thankful a company like this exists and I was able to wear a perfectly fitted suit to my friends wedding instead of a dress! They are experts at fitting a suit to a womans body and I couldnt be happier with how my suit turned out. Everyone on the team was helpful and made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. The Tailory New York - I cannot say enough about them! My suit is the BEST thing I have ever purchased! From the concept to the final tailoring, the experience was marvelous! Mind you, we did this all virtually during Covid!The Team at the Tailory was so professional, kind and worked with me until the suit was perfect!I just love the fabric, the custom design, the color and especially the POCKETS! I received the most compliments wearing this chic, edgy, smart suit to a wedding on Labor Day, than I ever have with any outfit I wore in the past (mostly I wore dresses to galas and weddings in the past)! My suit makes me feel like one million dollars. After graduating Harvard my mother brought me to The Tailory as a gift. She has been getting suits from them for years and I she always promised that I could have one too. I never knew a suit could bring me so much joy. I always looked forward to seeing Silke and Shao again for my fittings and a delicious martini… made by Shao the founder (Shao!!!). What a delight. My sister was getting married in Korea and needed me to buy a modern yet traditional suit. I couldn’t find one anywhere, which led me to The Tailory. I told them what I was looking for, and the owner, actually sketched out the suit and helped me choose every detail from color to the traditional fabric covered button. They even went and SOURCED a ramie textile that I ended up using for my vest. The customer service I received from the design appointment to my fittings were incredibly professional, but most of all a really enjoyable process. I almost think I outshined my sister, but I was humble. Definitely coming back here for my own wedding!

I had the most incredible experience working with the Tailory! In my second to last fitting the suit wasnt fitting exactly right so they completely redid the suit from scratch, delivered on time and didnt charge anything additional. I had my design appointment at their pop up event in D.C. The second I walked in the environment in the room lit up. The process was smooth and easy and there were a TON of options. The only trouble I had was narrowing down my favorite fabric. I was told that production would take about a month and that my fitting would be ready by the next D.C pop up. As promised, I got to have my in person fitting and my final suit was shipped to me after 2 weeks ! I wear this suit to all my staff meetings and get so many compliments till this day!! The Tailory New York exceeded all of my expectations. I needed a very specific shade of green to match the wedding party for my brother’s wedding. The Tailory New York went above and beyond matching a very specific swatch I brought with me. After setting me up with a nice drink, we spent almost an hour pouring through book after book until we found the perfect shade in one of their premium bamboo books.We were on a tight timeline, but that didn’t stop The Tailory from executing perfection every step of the way. They ordered from the mill at my appointment to ensure delivery within my timeline. They even brought their Master Tailor Igor up for my fitting to successfully turn my alterations around in 24 hours. Boy, is that man an efficient, talented, and entertaining member of the team.What really made the difference was how every member I interacted with made me feelwelcomed and appreciated. I had looked at a few other custom suiting places and no one made me feel like the company cared about me on a personal level. At my pick-up appointment, the team even remembered to ask me about my grandmother, who had just thankfully survived COVID-19 a few months before. That is true attention to detail.At the wedding, I got to dance with my grandmother and she could not get over how I looked in my new suit (she actually would not let it go). I was also able to keep my jacket on at a summer wedding because the team set me up with thermoregulating fabric.The Tailory New York does more than just deliver a product, they instill confidence in you to create the most important memories of your life.I’ve already worn my suit a few times since and get showered with compliments. Tailory New York is genuine in their care for me as a customer, and what I wanted. They truly took the time to really work with me and always made me feel very comfortable. Even during the difficult time of a global pandemic Silke and her team remotely communicated with me through text, email, and webcam. Even though I am uncomfortable with virtual interaction they kept me at ease. It was my first time customizing any clothing for myself, and I didnt know terminology, or where to even start. Their catalog was simple and made it easy to understand what information I can provide them to get started on my suit. From Day 1, it was truly an amazing experience. The communication was on point, shipping and handling made easy, and the results? I felt confident and amazing on my special day. My wife and I loved how it looked on me and how it made me feel. The Tailory was the most delightful experience about my entire wedding planning! These ladies are all professionals making me feel completely at ease with what I was going to receive! I was in search of the prefect jumpsuit and they delivered the wedding jumpsuit of my dreams!! I searched every single website out there for jumpsuits and all I wanted was something elegant and simple. I was surprised nothing out there existed! I tried buying high end designer jumpsuits from department stores, for double the price of my custom jumpsuit, but nothing fit me. They were made to fit tall slender women and the proportions did not work for me. This custom jumpsuit they created for me fit like a glove and I was able to dance like a crazy person at my wedding with no issues! They also worked seamlessly with my mom who wanted to make my cape veil for me and they were so easy to collaborate with! I cannot rave enough about their work, this place is amazing 10 stars if could give them more!!!!
Had an excellent experience working with Shao and Valerie at The Tailory. This was my first foray into the world of bespoke clothing and I couldn’t have asked for better guides to steer me through the process. They were extremely professional, knowledgeable and patient as we went through the many decisions about fit, style and materials. When it came time to go back for the first fitting, I was super impressed at how well the suit fit. No need for additional alterations—they just had to add the buttonhole! Looking forward to my next custom suit from The Tailory.
The Tailorys meticulous work produces magnificent results. I was genuinely nervous about purchasing my first suit since coming out as a trans woman. However, Silke and her team did a wonderful job walking me through a very wide range of fabric, cut and other options and getting the right measurements to produce a very flattering garment.My suit purchase process consisted of an initial appointment to take my measurements and select the design in which Silke did a great job listening to what I knew I wanted (ie: no lapels, reduced shoulder padding, fitted waist) while making enough suggestions to help me avoid any egregious mistakes (eg: vents really wouldnt have worked on the cropped jacket). Starting one month thereafter, I had two subsequent fittings which, pin by pin, produced an entirely optimal fit. Scheduling these appointments was super-easy and I at no point worried Id compromise my deadline.At the end of the process, I had a grey suit and two colorful shirts that fit me like a glove. At a distance of ten feet, you wouldnt notice much about the outfit beyond the carefully managed silhouette. At a handshakes reach though, you might notice the slightly-raised texture in that wool-silk jacket, the hand-stitched seams or the way my cellphone vanishes into a breast pocket without leaving a wrinkle. Silke claims that last effect was accomplished through the jackets canvassing. I suspect the pockets are, instead, magic.
I had such a great experience at The Tailory! Even though they were on a tight schedule due to my last-minute request, Valerie and Anna made me feel at ease every step of the way and did all they could go create the perfect suit for me. They really went the extra mile to make sure all of my preferences were reflected in the final product and you can tell! Even though this was definitely an investment, its one I dont regret since I expect to wear this suit for years, decades even.
I had a really wonderful experience working with Valerie at The Tailory NY. I didn’t have a solid idea of exactly what I wanted when I first went in but was playing with a few in my head that I let them know about before I arrived. Valerie had an amazing array of different fabrics with diff textures etc and within a few weeks she helped me created my dream suit! I am definitely returning in the future and can’t wait to do so! The Tailory is AMAZING. If youre a woman who wears suits, you probably know how difficult it is to find an off-the-rack suit that fits. The Tailory eliminates that problem.The suit and shirt they made for me fit better than anything Ive ever owned or tried. Also, the fabric and pattern of the suit are gorgeous--I had a ton of options to choose from and the combination I found is professional, yet hip.The staff is knowledgeable, kind and disarming--I had no idea what I was doing going into this and they made the process easy and fun. The suit was ready when they promised it would be and Ive already received tons of compliments.Paying a little extra (although its not all that much extra!) for a custom-made suit is absolutely worth it. I no longer regard having to wear a suit for work occasions as a chore. I really cant recommend the Tailory enough and I look forward to working with them again!

Getting my first custom suit was an amazing experience! As a bridesmaid, I wanted a suit I could change into after the ceremony concluded. Shao and Valerie were both very open, enthusiastic, and patient with me. Im incredibly happy with the suit and shirt I got (dark navy blue bamboo suit, perfect for summer, and lavender shirt!); its a classic combo that will work for many occasions. Finding clothing that not only fits you properly and speaks to your personal style does wonders for how you see yourself. I went back to order two more custom boyfriend-style shirts. Ill definitely be back!
I came to The Tailory for a suit for my upcoming wedding. Before reaching out for a consultation, I did some research by sending Direct Messages to previous clients, all of whom has great things to share. I had a consultation just to check out the vibe and see if wed be compatible and immediately decided that Shao and Valerie would create my wedding suit! I went back a few months later and each interaction was great, the impeccable attention to detail, and the level of enthusiasm was all of what I wanted and expected. I now have my suit and it exceeded my expectations. Im already trying to figure out other suits Id like made. I highly recommend The Tailory!
The best custom tailoring experiences I’ve had. The team is very professional and really helped me design the perfect wedding suit. They continued to refine it until it was just right. Unlike experiences at other custom tailors where once they started tweaking things kept getting worse, the tweaks here made the right adjustments to have the suit fit me perfectly. Looking forward to getting my next suit made there.
I spent over $3000 to purchase a suit, 2 shirts, and pair of pants. It’s been 9 weeks since I first ordered these items, and the order isn’t even finished, not to mention it’s already two weeks past my event deadline.For context—I’m trans nonbinary (they/them) and 4’11”. It’s very difficult for me to find clothes that are affirming of my gender and fitting for my size. When I got invited to a wedding the first weekend of June 2021, I finally had a reason to order custom garments. With 5 weeks of lead time, I reached out to the Tailory and made an in-person fitting appointment, where I made my selections for my suit and one shirt. The next day, I realized there were 3 wedding events to attend, so I ordered an additional shirt and pair of pants over Zoom. The Tailory’s team assured me that if I placed the order that day (April 22nd), I would receive all the garments by my deadline, May 31st.All went south from here. A week before my deadline, I had been reaching out via text and email and couldnt get any specific updates. It was obvious that the suit and other garments were not going to be delivered on time and that they were intentionally keeping me in the dark. At that point, I sent the Tailory an email calling out their absolute lack of transparency—I just wanted to know where my garments were.They replied with a generic apology, offering to deliver the suit to me two days before the wedding. No one even signed the email with their name because I don’t think they wanted to know who I was speaking to. At this point, I was skeptical at best because they clearly had already failed to deliver and wouldn’t even be able to complete custom alterations in time.Two days passed and when they finally had my suit, they texted asking me if they could overnight ship it, or if I needed them to deliver it. I was only two hours away in the Catskills before this wedding—the fact that they didn’t want to deliver the suit unless I explicitly asked also just felt like a lack of willingness to make up for the awful experience thusfar. I just wanted to get my garments and be done. Later that day, they arrived in the evening to deliver my items. When they arrived, they only brought my suit and a single shirt. When I asked “Where are the other items I ordered? The additional shirt and pants?” the intern who was sent out to me gave me a deer in the headlights look. She had no idea what I was talking about, and had to call her supervisor to inquire. After she had gotten off the phone with her supervisor, she gave me a vague answer that the garments MIGHT be done by the wedding (which was in two days). Had I known that they wouldn’t be done, I just wouldn’t have spent an additional $1200 on those items. In the end, the employees left me with just the suit and one shirt, and later that night, an unnamed person from the company texted me to let me know that the additional garments would not be ready in time.Today, June 21st, two months exactly after my initial order, I STILL do not have the pants and shirt. They completely wasted my time and energy. I’ve sent the Tailory communications of my frustrations, requesting a partial refund for those items, asking for honesty, and just trying to get in touch with them. However, they have been silent for WEEKS now. They are an absolute horrible company to work with and I would never recommend them. I am honestly a pretty lenient person—I was fine with the delivery being a bit late, I let go the fact that they weren’t going to custom tailor my items once they received it from their overseas outsourcer, and in the end, I just got cheated and lied to. Not sure how the Tailory can call themselves a legitimate company when they couldn’t fulfill a basic order for a suit, two shirts, and pair of pants in five weeks. Work with this company at your own risk, and don’t expect them to accommodate you at all if any mistakes happen.UPDATE: One day after I posted this review the owner, Shao reached out to me. She issued me a full refund for the pants + shirt that I did not receive.
From the moment i first made contact with The Tailory through Valerie, i felt comfortable and like my experience would be a good one. That expectation was met from the moment i walked into The Tailory. I was nervous and unsure if my desires when it came to my wedding suit were reasonable ones. Shao and Valerie were very reassuring and gentle, letting me know that I would get exactly what I wanted, in particular that the aesthetic would match who I am as a butch. The moment I tried my suit I was in love with it! I still marvel at how amazingly perfect it fits me!
Im so impressed with The Tailory and will return to them whenever I need tailored clothes! Heres a brief summary of my experience.I made an appointment and Valerie reached out to me by email to find out what was looking for so she could plan ahead and pull some things for me to look at. So thats great from the start. When I replied something along the lines of--I dont know. This is my first formal event, my first purchase of a custom suit, my first tuxedo, Im gender non-conforming, I loved Hugh Jackmans outfits in The Greatest Showman, and ... I need the suit in three weeks. Is that helpful? Valerie replied, Yes, thats very helpful, in fact. Feeling instantly reassured, I went to the appointment and she had great selections for me to consider. I was given all the time I needed, but it really didnt take that long for me to decide because she was so on point with my vaguely expressed aesthetic. The suit came in on time, and when making final adjustments, they were so very helpful in getting a fit that was both terrific looking and made me feel comfortable.I recommend The Tailory to anyone who needs/wants custom clothes, but especially LGBTQ+ folks. Its so amazing--but rare (for me, at least)-- to have such an affirming experience with clothing and clothes shopping.

I could not have been more thrilled when I set eyes on my stunning new custom suit in magnificent Loro Piana fabric. I read about The Tailory in the New York Times several years ago and just recently decided to take the plunge on a custom suit. Up until this point I had been consistently frustrated by the lack of quality, well tailored off the rack suits for women.The Tailory is a rare find. The staff is warm and patient, the selection of sumptuous fabrics endless, and the final product is truly a piece of art. I have never owned a piece of clothing displaying such exquisite workmanship and I am thrilled. Already thinking about my next suit...

One CANNOT get a custom suite made and not use The Tailory NY!!Shao is phenomenal and the most talented designer I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with! My experience with The Tailory was beyond excellent. From the initial interaction to the finished suit, Shao and Valerie were professional, highly skilled and fun to work with. The suit they made was a perfect cut - edgy, feminine and flattering from all angles. The fabric was extremely high quality and the lining was stunning (an intricate deep red/navy rose pattern). The team also tailor made a white business shirt that is hands down the best fitting shirt I’ve ever worn. Valerie and Shao are now my go to tailors in New York.

After looking up their website and instagram to see their work, I contacted them to learn more about their business and process. They have a fantastic take on diversity that is apparent in their portfolio and in my interactions with Valerie and Shao. I was looking for a custom tailored suit for my wedding, but I didnt want to necessarily go for a traditional mens suit. The idea I had in my head was for an androgynous look that pulled womens and mens suit designs that was more fitted.I dont live in the New York area, so I scheduled a trip for the initial appointment to discuss design, fabrics, and to take initial measurements. I was nervous initially, but I was put at ease the moment I walked in. Valerie and Shao walked me through all of the options to consider and explained when they could tell I wasnt quite understanding. I was worried that measurements would be awkward as I have some body image issues, but my experience couldnt have been farther from that. I was comfortable, and never once felt self-conscious.A few weeks after that appointment they let me know my suit had arrived and I went back for fitting and alterations. This experience was once again pleasant, professional, and above all comfortable. I had the final product shipped to me to avoid traveling to New York again, and less than a week later it arrived. I did end up taking it to a cleaner to have it pressed for some minor wrinkling from shipping, but that was to be expected.It looked great in my wedding photos, and fits better than any piece of clothing Ive ever owned. The fabrics are all very high quality and stood up well to the rainstorm that ensued during my ceremony.I certainly recommend working with Valerie, Shao, and the rest of the team at The Tailory New York. You wont be disappointed. I was hesitant at first because of the price, but you definitely get what you pay for. I purposely selected colors that would work in a professional environment to extend its usefulness and I foresee using this suit for a long time to come. Should I be in the market for additional custom clothing in the future, I know where Ill be returning.
The Tailory has phenomenal folks working for them- we did an online fitting, online designing and the suit turned out beautifully. As a petite woman, its very hard to find suits period but the Tailory worked with me, listened and were so lovely to work with. Would absolutely go back and recommend!
First time getting a custom suit and shirt made for my wedding and it was the best and most seamless experience one can have. Shao was amazing to work with. Shes fast, dedicated, and knows her stuff. She walked through all my questions in detail and the fittings were fun. One of my friends enjoyed her experience there as well and ended up getting a suit made there as well. I highly recommend the Tailory and would go back there again.

I absolutely loved everything about getting my suit. From picking out the fabrics all the way to the buttons it was quick, easy and impressive. I know customer service very well and they wowed me right from when they opened the door.It took maybe 20 minutes for them to help me design my very first suit and take measurements. It took a week for my suit to come in! I came back tried it on and left with it that day.... unbelievable really. I can’t wait to come back and create a new one with you guys. I had a blast and loved every minute of the design process.
Love, love, love. I had some important life events coming up so I decided to try a custom suit for the first time in my life. I did a ton of research and The Tailory kept coming up. I cant stress how much Ive hated shopping for myself almost my entire life. I wasnt sure what to expect but Valerie and Shao put me at ease right away. The process was easy and fun. My wife was so inspired she decided to get a suit as well. Ive also never spent more than Macys money on a suit :D but it was so worth it... I cant put a price on how good I felt in my suit.
My wool coat is so soft and impeccably constructed that I am sure it will stand both the test of time and daily wear. The process has taken about three weeks start to finish, which is much faster than I expected. A custom piece is definitely an investment, but it is well worth the value of the beautiful fabrics, expertise, and excellent customer service that The Tailory provides. I was unsure of what to expect because I had never ordered a custom piece, but Shao and Valerie made me feel very welcome. There are so many different fabrics and notions to choose from, but I never felt overwhelmed because of Shaos excellent guidance.

They were open to what I had in mind and supportive of the endeavor as I was guided through the process. I have a frame that has been hard to fit in the past. The team was non-judgmental and so so helpful. I couldnt be happier with the outcome! I had a blue and bone suit with a silver cape made. They were outstanding, all pieces. Never wanted to take them off. The Tailory checked in and make sure I was happy with the items, they were gems to work with! All around amazing. Was truly fun to meet with the team and put everything together. High high recommendation.

They were really impartial guides along the way, which made you feel like you were in control and could really make decisions about a suit that youd ultimately be happy with. But moments when I did need advice from an experts eyes, they were more than happy to offer their experienced opinions.If you want to step up your fashion (aka, step up your game), definitely come and get a suit made. After several unsuccessful trips to various retailers in search of a suit I could wear for job interviews, I decided to look into having one custom-made. I had never considered bespoke clothing before because it always seemed like a luxury that was out of reach for me, but knowing that I wanted to look as good as possible when interviewing senior-level administrative positions, I decided that it was at least worth looking into. During the course of my research I came across The Tailory and was immediately drawn to the companys inclusive ethos as conveyed through its social media presence. I decided to make an appointment and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that it was one of the best things I did for myself in 2019. From start to finish, the team at The Tailory was incredibly patient with me and my very obvious lack of knowledge related to tailored fashions. With their guidance, I was able to weigh in on every single element of the custom suit and shirt they designed and created for me. Ive never looked fresher!The folks at Tailory are absolutely lovely and will make you feel right at home. I had a lot of scheduling issues but the Tailory was very flexible in working around my schedule.The experience of picking your materials, buttons, cut, etc. will surely spark joy and its something youll never forget. Plus, they really take your personal style into account and will surprise you with their sartorial creativity. For example, I love hoodies and sneakers so they helped me design a suit that looks good with sneakers and can fit a hoodie without looking baggy. I received my first custom suit from the Tailory as a gift. This was my first custom made suit, and Shao and Valerie, were so helpful and kind throughout the whole process—from design to making adjustments to ensure a perfect fit. Shao has a gifted eye for design and also knows how to design uniquely to each client’s vision and body type. And Valerie is extremely organized and helpful in setting up each appointment. The resulting suit was even more beautiful than I imagined and now I can see the difference of a custom suit designed for women. The Tailory is a dream come true! I have always wanted a custom suit and I had a friends wedding coming up. My friend and I didnt even have appointments and we walked in (FYI we were from out of town). Valerie was so welcoming and walked us through the entire process. It was so easy and she was helpful in answering all our questions. Shao did our measurements and was also very helpful when it came to sizing and fit. A few weeks later we tried on the finished product and we couldnt have been happier! Everything - the pants, the blazer, the shirt - everything fit perfectly and felt amazing. I will definitely be coming back and making more items from them!
I am Locked! Thus far Ive purchased 2 suits, 2 shirts and my wedding tux, Shao and Silke made the process so comfortable and smooth. I experienced both in suite and virtual fitting, as great as it is to visit the suite the virtual zoom call was just as great. Shao was able to execute alterations. I cant thank them enough... I just got married this past weekend, when looking for a suit, I had in person fittings that had all been cancelled due to COVID-19 shut downs. I felt like getting a custom suit for my big day wasn’t going to happen and as a woman, this was stressful because suits are often too large or ill-fitting because they are made for men. I found the Tailory’s website & loved their inclusive approach & saw they did virtual fittings so it was going to be my best shot. My initial consultation was great, attentive, & all my questions were answered. Due to COVID production times were a little slower then expected & I started to stress things wouldn’t be ready in time. My suit arrived needing adjustments 9 days til wedding day & I was assured everything would be fine. I had a virtual fitting the next day - I dropped my suit off & it was overnighted & sent back within the week. I’ve never had a suit fit perfectly for me & the Tailory 10/10 exceeded my expectations. Love my new custom suit. The team came to DC for a pop up and made the whole process efficient and fun. A seamless experience. The Tailory team helped me build a custom wardrobe for medical school and I could not be happier with how everything turned out. Initial Zoom consult during COVID19 was fun/quick/comprehensive. I was able to do my fitting in-person in New York and Silke and Shao made me feel SUPER chill and comfortable and really listened to my feedback and concerns. I commissioned for a suit to be made for me a few months ago. Things started off rocky in terms of nailing my size in the beginning but the company was committed to ensuring I had the perfect suit. Recently just got the suit sent to me in Germany and was delighted to see how well it fit. Its a beautiful suit and it didnt need any other further alterations done to it. I definitely will be commissioning them in the future for more suits.

I had the most amazing experience at The Tailory NY, Shao Yang and Valerie Maruani-Bacac were outstanding. After contacting several very reputable custom tailor shops in New York City I decided on The Tailory and it was the best decision I could have made. The service was amazing, Shao really listened to my ideas and put together my dream suit. The fabric, lining and button choices had something for everyone from elegant classic to fun and funky (like me) I was able to get sugar skulls lining my suit and skull buttons. The fit was spot on and the entire process was very quick as was their turn around time. They worked to keep me in my rather modest budget and I feel like I look like a million bucks. First off, I’d like to thank Shao and Valerie for always, always making me feel comfortable and respected. They valued my opinions, but did not hesitate to offer their input and advice when asked. I absolutely LOVED coming here for my first bespoke suit. Not only did they have my own personal style pegged from the moment I arrived, they also worked with me to help me figure out what kind of fit would be the most comfortable for me and my lifestyle. When I returned to get the finished clothes fitted to me, they already fit perfectly and didnt need any altering, so I was able to walk away with my pants (they kept the jacket so they could add button holes)!I cant believe how well everything fits and how much I love these items, and I cant wait to come back for a second suit so I can mix-and-match them as separates!

DO NOT under any circumstances go to the Tailory to get something made. Their customer service is abominable. They don’t show up for appointments and then lie about where they were. And they lie about having your merchandise ready. This is the worst custom clothing company in Manhattan. There are a ton of other ones to choose from. Run, don’t walk, to any other one.

Had a lovely time ordering a bespoke suit from the Tailory. The women there make it so much fun as this suit was to be a fun going out one. They offered lots of suggestions and combinations that would work with my loose initial vision. The suit in the end is magnificent and arrived in time for my birthday and its exactly the vibe I was looking for.
I have purchased several pieces from Tailory. The customer service and attention to detail is A++. The team made the experience a delight and fun. They went over and above to make sure you are pleased during every phase of the process. The selection of fabrics is fantastic and diverse. This bespoke tailoring enables you customize everything. Definitely will make future purchases.
They treat their interns like complete trash. Overworked, cruel, payed $100 a week. Disgusting for such a business, do not support.
The design session and fitting were fun and easy, and I felt really supported in my choices. Even with the pandemic slowing down delivery, the Tailory team was attentive and assured me that my suit was on its way. I cant wait to wear it to all of those postponed weddings in 2021 and 2022!

When providing reviews, I believe best to give context so people can understand how the reviewer is approaching the good / service...I work in a conservative institution in a large US city. While some of my clients have embraced, business-casual dress, my profession remains pretty formal. Thus, wearing a nice suit is a precursor for the job.I have had many suits. Started off my career wearing Brooks Brothers and Ralph Lauren. Had multi-year stints with Mohans, Mr. Neds, Tom James. While I was wearing those suits, was generally happy - all put out a good product.This past month I tried The Tailory based on a friend’s recommendation. I was very impressed. What I realized was I had no issues with my prior tailors because I actually didnt know what a perfect fit really was. Post my experience with The Tailory team, I now know the difference.Shao and Valerie were detailed and honest. Spent about an hour with them discussing what I like and dont like. They provided me their views on what is feasible and what is strange.I ended up with a well-tailored and modern (but still conservative) suit. Very happy.Also impressive was the speed. While first suit took ~3 weeks to complete, once we get process down, will be about 2 weeks from start to finish.Midtown East location very convenient. Team understands their clients are generally busy so will work with them on setting up times that work. Lots of fabrics to choose from - they can do everything from Loro Piana to more economical wools.Given experience I have had in tailored suits, I wholeheartedly recommend The Tailory.Very happy with final product.

I really didnt know what to expect from this, but I knew it was going to be impossible to get what I needed in my size off the rack.The first measurement process is surprisingly comprehensive. They even asked which hand I wear a watch on, to ensure that the watch sleeve would have just a little more space.They also gave good guidance on style--I knew roughly what I wanted, but didnt have a plan for the lining or buttons. But they pretty quickly gathered that I would wear something pretty flamboyant and helped narrow down my options from literally hundreds to a few.Be aware that the suit, when you first get it, wont be exactly right, which I didnt realize at first. You go in a second time where they make a lot of little adjustments when they can actually see the garment on your body. Theyll mail your completed suit after that.Also, it was pretty cool that they came to DC to do fittings here.

What a wonderful experience! Shao took her time with me and my wife to design truly one of a kind suits for our wedding ceremony, including custom beading that was nothing short of a work of art. She aims to execute your exact vision, even letting us bring in our own fabric (most tailors of this caliber will not allow you to use materials outside of their stock). In addition, Shao and Valerie create a warm and welcoming environment, making the overall process feel special. Highly recommend!

5-stars all around. Woot, woot, holla... Up until recently the suits in my closet were like a mullet, work suits in the front and party suits in the back. After years of wearing Brioni to the office and Tom Ford out on the town, I had a catharsis. These suits werent me, I am one man, with one mullet, and I need to represent who I am with my suit game. I perused the suit-slingers of the Fashion Mecca (NYC, not Paris), and concluded that The Tailory New York was #1. I completed the entire process virtually via Zoom meets, even though their showroom is in walking distance of my place. Not only do I look better, I feel better.
The Tailory is a dream! Shaos vision and energy are amazing and Valerie makes the entire process seamless (pun intended) from start to finish. Shao made my custom tuxedo for my wedding. I not only felt sexy and powerful, but looked amazing as well. People immediately knew it was a bespoke piece. Thanks to Silke and Shao for my recent process of getting another suit made!! The online appointments were fast and efficient. Im also happy that I was also able to send my two pairs of jeans to them for resizing and had them back in time to use for work this year. In total Ive had three suits, a pair of dress pants and three jeans (black and blue) made with them, and would definitely recommend them. Theyre always available via email and or IG to respond to any questions/issues. Theyre very personable and inclusive which helps when it comes the diverse needs of their customers. Thank you!!

I cant comment on the experience myself, but I heard it was goodContext: I organised for a friend to have a groomsmaid suit made at The Tailory NY for my wedding, but I am based in a different countryQuality: The suit as I saw it on the day was very good fabric and everything looked great. The suit was made to the style and specifications I sent through with a high level of detail (e.g. the collars, the stitching, the exact size of cuffs etc).Fit: The fit was excellent, including the often-imperfect shoulders and underarms. As the viewer (not wearer) is fit extremely well.Service: They responded to my emails quickly; and offered a range of reasonable options to meet my various requests. They were also friendly and funny in these communications. I found them lovely, in particular Valerie.Price: The price was great for the quality of the suit.Experience: N/A. I wasnt there for fitting so cant comment. My friend said she had a good time.
I love going to The Tailory New York for my suits. I have gone to Shao for my graduation and wedding suits and both times didn’t disappoint. She knows exactly how to make a suit look good and fit good so from now on I am going to her for all my work suits as well.

I came in to get a 2 piece black suit for context.From start to finish the folks here really create a whole experience rather than just an in/out situation. They work with you every step of the way to make sure what youre getting is something that makes you feel like you and will last a very long time.From the consultation where you get to see everything literally laid out on the table for you, Shao and Valerie will break everything down in the simplest way for you to see the bigger picture. In my case I had no idea the names/types of fits that would suit me (pun intended). For the experienced custom suit buyer to the semi newbie like me, it doesnt feel intimidating or complicated but rather easy and relaxed. Shao you are SO talented I cant get over it.Most importantly is that women (especially women who are shorter with an athletic build) dont always fit in store bought sizes and taililoring just doesnt cut it. Having that black tie attire that fits you truly, in every aspect, is something priceless and this is exactly what was promised and it was beyond delivered. I couldnt recommend this company more. An amazing one-of-a-kind experience. For the party scene this holiday season, I wanted to have that look that you fantasize about. Over the Summer at my high school reunion, a former classmate had a boss-suit from The Tailory New York. That night in my head I drew a treasure map to this clothier. Finally, I arrived at their fabulous showroom, filled with sunlight and fragrant candles. The light fixtures are gold, there were plants serenading me and they have a top-shelf liquor cart that symbolizes their impeccable taste.So, I got down to business, bourbon in 1-hand and flipping through a fabric book with the other. They composed a sleek blue custom suit that screams gleam, with a lining I picked because it reminded me of The Beatles Revolver album cover. I’m a little wide and they were able to mirage my width with a svelte design.You see a dude in New York flossin’ in a lux suit….come over and say howdy.
I have been going to the Tailory for almost two years now and it has been an absolute pleasure. Always a wonderful and easy experience. The service is always impeccable and in my personal opinion worth every penny. Their most recent event blew myself and my colleagues away, it was surprisingly very fun and entertaining. After years of being disappointed by several underwhelming and overpromising custom-suit purveyors; I found utopia.The Tailory is a mirror image of their product. To expound, they took a holistic approach to develop the style that fits me best and they always exceed expectations with the finished product. Every suit, coat and shirt that I have ordered has been a perfect fit and looks as good as the day I got it.The value proposition is that I have developed a relationship that feels like a blend of my barber and my accountant. I am at the point where I dont need to speak to my barber and when he is done with me I look perfect. My accountant knows everything about me financially and has architected a dynamite long term plan.Happy to have a well-balanced closet thanks to these folks.

The team at The Tailory did an amazing job. This was my first custom order so I was slightly unsure about what to ask for. They listened to my list of do’s and don’ts and delivered exactly what I asked for. During my final fitting I requested some minor adjustment which they quickly accommodated. I know exactly what I want for next time. I’ll be back.

I was amazed at how fun and effective our virtual fitting was, and am thrilled with the fit, quality and look of my suit, jacket and shirts. Easily worth the price, and perfect for confident business events and court appearances, whether live or on Zoom.
Wonderful people to work with and a fantastic selection. They dont do overnight work so expect, if you live away from New York City, for it to take at least a couple of months to see your finished suit. Nevertheless, youll find it well worth waiting for. The colors and materials are sumptuous and selection is vast.

2022-02-18I chose The Tailory because I loved the asymmetry and androgyny in their designs. And I loved that I could create something exactly how I wanted it. The experience of creating a custom vest and pants for my wedding in Greece was incredible! We did this during COVID when The Tailory had a pop up in Boston. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and responsive. They gave me the option of in-person or virtual try ons. Stellar customer experience all around. I highly recommend!

2022-04-01This would be 100 stars if possible. If you want to look amazing but have no idea how to do it yourself, youve come to the right place. My partner and I were planning our wedding and I spent months fretting about what to wear. Ive done rent the runway before to varied results, and found a lot of looks shopping online that I loved but just didnt look good on me, and really wasnt able to find anything that fit both my body and style. I scheduled an appointment with Tailory on a whim and showed up not exactly sure what to expect, but Im so happy I did.I showed up to their fabulously cool space and immediately felt comfortable. Silke sat me down (with a great cocktail) and we just talked about our party vibe, what I liked and what I wanted for myself. Im not someone with much knowledge of fashion or style, and it was the biggest relief to just sit and talk and get advice about what would look good on me. Silke walked me through each and every component of my look, from cuff, lining, buttons, pockets, belt loops, and all the different shades of black to choose from! It was the most fun Id had in a while and I learned a lot in process.Measuring was extensive but again, I felt incredibly at ease in what could be an uncomfortable situation. These ladies are just so kind, professional, and at ease that I just sipped my g&t and let them do their work on me. And gotta say, the suit fit PERFECTLY, so Im glad they got every inch of me mapped out :) (apparently my right arm is an inch shorter than my left, which is why I always have to cuff my blazers for work, who knew!)Throughout the process they kept me updated and stuck to the timeline we discussed at the first appointment, even though it was pretty tight (~8-9 weeks from first visit to delivery).I enjoyed every second of the process, and I felt so fabulous and at ease at our wedding. Ive already bought 2 more shirts and expect to go back for more suits for work soon. If youre considering it, make the appointment. It was worth every penny.

2022-05-25When it was time to plan my wedding, I wanted an outfit that was as festive and unique as me! My vision was something Elton John might be happy to wear, and I presented the Tailory team with my idea of glitter raining down from the sky. As a nonbinary person, I wanted to find an outfit that was formal, but not boring, and that expressed my zest for life without relying too heavily on either feminine or masculine design elements. The team did a great job hearing my wants and needs, and coming up with a timeline. With covid, my date was delayed twice and they did a great job being flexible. I love my suit and loved the process. Id recommend The Tailory to anyone looking for a sick outfit for a special day, including fellow nonbinary and trans folks looking for something outside the box. We went in with just simple ideas to what we wanted our wedding tuxedos to look like and Shao was able to design everything that we wanted. 2022-01-07My wife and I got custom tuxes made for my sister’s wedding last year and it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. They fit so beautifully and were 100% worth the investment. Honestly I don’t think they could’ve been made any better or fit our personalities and styles more.The consultation process was easy and pressure-free. We were given a breadth of fabrics and styles to choose from and never felt a need to compromise what we wanted. We were so happy with that process that we actually spent additional money on custom silk shirts, which while pricey were absolutely worth the investment.The only hiccup we had was a staffing change at the end of the process which caused a communication pause. Once we flagged the problem, the manager and owner were very quick to solve it — they even turned alterations around in 24 hours which in my book was very impressive.Overall I’d definitely come back. Some of these reviews make me feel like people don’t give them enough grace or credit for their outstanding & beautiful work.

2022-02-24The Tailory New York helped me create a stunning suit for my dad’s wedding. Their measuring app is incredible and so easy, taking up to 20+ different ones I didn’t even know they needed! They have SO many fabric choices, which was the only part that overwhelmed me. The team also communicated so quickly throughout this process making me feel assured that my suit would come out exactly how I envisioned it. Definitely coming again for more casual suits!

2022-05-04I had 2 suits made. One double and one single breasted. The quality and choice of fabrics available was as impressive as the finished products. I wanted something classical and stylish and that’s exactly what I got. I wear these suits for work, they don’t crease when I travel and the functional array of discreet pockets is one of the many things I love about them. The fit was almost perfect from the initial measurements. Would definitely have these ladies make me more suits.
