Front desk very nice and welcoming, and 24 hour coffee was great for me but agree with others. Hotel needs complete renovation. We just crashed there one night transiting the area, and served the purpose. Bathroom was clean, and seem they just had renovated recently which was great. The rest old, but clean. Really cant complain. Its just ok if you just need to stay for a night, but wouldnt stay more than 1-2 nights at the most.
I just viewed a VHS tape we had converted to video from 1998 when my family and I visited the Tides Motor Inn. Let me tell you, the photos I am seeing on recent reviews today resemble the exact bedsheets, furniture and layout of the room 23 years ago. I last visited this place May 2016 so pardon my late review. But guess what? The same can be said about my 2016 visit. I cant quite understand some reviews that say “other than the smell of cigarettes, musky carpet, bugs, etc…it was clean.” NO! That makes it UNCLEAN. The current management has let this once gem of a location become you know what. Its very sad really. I will leave two stars for the sake of childhood memories.
Still ok, been going there for a few years. Theyre really the only choice in the neighborhood. Great location by the beach and very nice pool. Private pool and good size area around it are kept up well, has a shower and bathrooms that are rundown but usable. Also next to a small theme park that had a great restaurant and ice cream parlor. The staff which I think are the owners are always nice, professional and welcoming. The rooms are kept clean and the room service women was very nice. Its very quiet in the rooms and on the grounds if you want to open your door or window for some fresh air. It feels like a safe location. Bathroom was fine, clean, just a very loud fan you couldnt turn off without turning off the light. It was tricky to get hot water out of the shower, I almost gave up and didnt shower but finally figured it out. I like the extra sink and mirror outside the bathroom to get ready at. Hair dryer to use, ironing board, one little soap and one little shampoo bottle provided. No more tennis courts, no more kids playground, should be removed from all advertising. The rooms are old and run down. Obvious tear in the fabric on the plastic chair in our room. The sheets didnt fit and kept coming off the matress. Needs a paint job, a touch up would be fine, stains on the walls. Sink was leaking. Broken trash can, broke in several places. Room smelled a bit moldy but the other rooms we have stayed in have not. The price was a bit high since they arent keeping it up. But wed still probably stay there again for the location and lack of choices and because it did feel clean.
Positive: Nothing Negative: Dirty office area. Workers could hardly speak english. Hand me a key to a room, drive over, someone is staying there. Back to office. Get another room, could not accommodate me on the first floor even though 75% vacancy. It was 95 degrees that day, r
This motel needs a lot of maintenance. We stayed here for one night ( I couldn’t handle more than that ) almost nothing worked in the room. Just one light was working, the hair dryer wasn’t working, no microwave and the stove that was in the room wasn’t working either. I gave 2 starts for location and cleaning of the bed and, bathroom (good things) But, the room floor wasn’t clean at all! We paid a lot (but cheapest one around) for one night and were disappointed.
Positive: This hotel was clean and right across from the beach. It is an old school motel. Nothing fancy but it works. Negative: The pool was not functional and we did not know that until we arrived. The beaches are residents only until 4pm. I booked it mainly for the advertised pool as it was going to be over 90 during my stay.
Bedbugs. And while The manager did agree to reimburse me, he also argued that they weren’t bed bugs. How did he know? He just had an exterminator in that same day. Why would a motel that knows there is an ongoing issue allow people to stay before knowing it is resolved? Who knows what was sprayed there and if it was safe. The manager was rude, demanded I show him bites. Luckily I had a video of them in between mattress and box spring. If you don’t want to get bedbugs, do not stay here.
Don’t book! Save your money and time I’ve never wrote a bad review for a hotel but this was an embarrassing booking! Was the last place available near farmingdale. Smells like cigarettes, walked in the room and carpet was so dirty! Lifted the corner of the bed sheet and found a roach! Ask for a refund and didn’t get anything, left and drove 30 mins to the next one.
SCAMMER!!!! I told guy I would come in a day late because of weather and he told me it is fine and no charge. I checked in and paid $512 for reservation, and then demanded $45 because I didnt come in on reservation day. Then proceeded to give a dirty room!!!! I asked for a refund minus the first day and he refused!!! He kept saying non refundable and needed my money for RENEVATIONS for hotel!!!! He only cared about his hotel and my hard earned money!!! Booking.com was no help!!! Stay FAR AWAY!!!
The barest minimum. Mostly dirty but the sheets were clean and the bed was bug-free (I checked). There were three jets of water in the shower, but the water pressure was just enough. Room was mostly dark except for light where you needed it. Walls were thin, but neighbors were quiet. Over all it was ok. Great location
Great location, upgrade to room with kitchenette was well worth it, pool was a great space.. very simple hotel, but perfect family weekend getaway with young children, directly across the street from the beach. The owners were friendly and helpful.. we enjoyed very much, would certainly come back!
Had a nice clean pool but there was NO tennis court. They for sure need to remove that advertising then.I was in the handicap room but a few things were setup wrong for a person with a disability. Microwave on kitchenette stove top with no place to plug in. Literally had to bring to another table across the room to plug in. That situation would have been horrible for someone alone.Sadly, toliet did not work without me going into tank and flipping down water governor.Overall though, clean and staff was friendly enough. I loved the size of room.I wanted to give another star but for those reasons, I have to leave 3.
This place is a rare hidden gem. If you get it, you’ll understand and appreciate the beauty and history of this place and dying motels like this in general. Yes, it is dated, yes it could use repairs but something affordable, near the water, with real 60s charm and a hard working family running it is incredibly hard to come by these days….also less than an hour from NYC.You’re instantly transported into a simpler time plus name one place that can sleep 4 to a room for $150 on the water, with a pool and clean cozy sheets less than an hour from manhattan? May and her team were able to accommodate my party of 20 GUESTS just a few days prior to check-in. Such a gracious host who went above and beyond.Look anywhere else you’ll find high rises, “lux” hotels, etc… overpriced and over-designed. Stay there if you want that experience and have that deep of a wallet!I’ll personally continue to support more of these quaint independent owned motels, soon they won’t exist and we’ll all be paying $450 a night best case or $1200 on Airbnb worst.Thank you May!!! We will be back soon.

2022-06-29A hassle and a huge disappointment. We booked this location because of a wedding that we were attending close by. On arrival we were given a 1st floor room that was musty, had a tiny twin bed, felt like a dark dungeon, and had a terrible stench of mold. We expressed our thoughts to the property managers and were told to wait while they clean another room for us. The second room was cleaner but had a tiny AC that barely cooled and a table fan that was super loud, not to mention the one small twin bed (for 2 people). The screens were broken, there was no safe in the room, and the door lock was loose. We did not feel safe staying at the property and ended up having to pay $700 last minute for a nearby hotel for 2 nights.I contacted Booking.com with the issue and they emailed the property to get me a refund for the reservation. The hotel only refunded $98 not even half of what I payed!

2022-05-22For the price I was expecting it to be a dive, but what a pleasant surprise. The room was clean and the birds chirping outside was pleasant. The area is beautiful too. Definitely recommend this hotel if you are on a budget.

2022-04-18Stay away at all costs. Place needs a thorough renovation/cleanup. Soap, cups, and other essentials were missing when we arrived. Not to mention loud neighbors arguing with management - not so great when you just want to sleep in after a hard day. Very bad experience, do NOT come here. You’re better off in any other place

2022-05-03Perfectly pleasant other than construction crews early morning noise in end units 47-51(upstairs) and 14-18(downstairs) from where they store giant spools of cable and trucks on the end facing the pool. After 7am they hammer and have a lot to say at full voices with diesel trucks starting up, stopping, starting up, beeping backup, left running until 9am so dont expect to sleep in on the end units. If you walk across the street to the waters edge, turn left and you can walk the beach for a mile to Meudon Beach picking up beautiful shells&rocks, and discover interesting sea life!

2022-05-24Positive: The staff is very friendly and helpful Negative: As room is not isolated, Noises from other rooms come across. Even a tv sound can travel from one room to another! Some renovation is due also!

2021-11-13KEEP NOTE: Booked my room on booking.com, but was charged a higher amount when I got here. (KEEP READING!) I contacted booking and they said they’d refund me the extra fee. So aside from that inconvenience, I happily enjoyed a peaceful night here! I arrived very late in the day and was unable to enjoy the scenery (if any), and although the building itself is old and the room wasn’t fully up to date, it was still very peaceful! I enjoyed the peacefulness, the room had amazing heat, and I simply enjoyed the fact that I was able to get a great nights rest without any noise from others! Totally recommend if you wanna get some quality time to yourself.

2021-09-25Pretty disgusting, and overpriced. Strong moldy smell, the ancient refrigerator smelt like rotten fish. The whole room just felt overall filthy. I left before staying the night and will never. Would have felt my skin crawling all night. The pool was closed during the summer and the wifi sucked. Wish I could give this 0 stars. Do yourself a favor and spend your money on a nice motel.

2021-07-04Very dated motel! It was rough around the edges. While clean, it could use updating to bring it into the 21st century. The pool was NOT open! Would have been better if nearby amenities had been open. Hopefully Bayville strip will see investment soon since it has tremendous potential. New owner has a great opportunity and look forward to seeing improvements in the years to come. Given the limited number of options, if youre looking for a place on the beach and have a sense of adventure, this is the place for you.
