Very boring not much excitement during the tour, I was reading the reviews and was expected something better. The guide kept saying we will see this and that celebrity in the studio live, and we just saw empty studios, and he said oh we probably have just missed them...after all it was several studio rooms that’s it
Very cool tour to do in New York. You get to see studio sets and see the back scenes. At the end the tour group does a skit as if its their show. Its a little weird and uncomfortable if you are an introvert but everything else was cool to see. Our tour guides were super nice and had so much information to tell us.
Completed a tour of the NBC studio with Kent and Emily. The tour was very informative both Kent and Emily did an excellent job walking us through your daily routines in the studios. I have been watching for 40 years and start my morning each and every day.In addition my husband and I are big fans of the Jimmy Fallen Show! Thanks for the opportunity to tour!
Here’s an interesting factoid about this building at 1250 Sixth Avenue...those 4 bas reliefs that are about 25 feet up — why are they so so high? A passerby on the sidewalk wouldn’t notice them. Well, many years ago the subway, now underground, was an elevated train, and Rockefeller placed them high so passing train riders could enjoy a bit of beauty.
A wonderful experience! Crazy to see the shoebox that the Tonight Show is filmed in. The SNL stage and studio was something to see. Dont expect to take any photos once you walk through the Tour Door though. My wife and I got to be the main part of the recorded talk show at the end of the tour (that you get to download and keep). It was a perfect anniversary gift!
What a great way to see some behind the scenes of real history in the making. I really enjoyed the old photos of the history of television. The guides (NBC page program) make the tour fantastic but it is a fast paced race through a small part of the studio. Seeing the Saturday night live studio and the Tonight show studio were definitely the highlights of the tour. The making of a talk show video was fun too. Sure wish a photo or two during the tour was possible, but I guess its good to know that there are still some places where cameras are not permitted.
My daughter and I took this tour on our last day in New York and we found it to be a great end to our amazing trip. The groups were small and split between two Tour Guides, the tour length was perfect, the studio views were interesting, and the show at the end was entertaining and fun. The gift shop was filled with t-shirts, trinkets, cups - some typical touristy things but also a lot of unique things too. I’d definitely recommend this tour.
Well first let me explain... I understand why this attraction came up on my feed but I didnt actually do this tour. I was working as a performer on show at NBC and the tour came through the studio. So I guess thats why they want me to rate it. Actually several tours came through our studio (it was a very long day) and every one on the tour listened to the tour guide and were very respectful by not taking any photos from what I could see. Even I cant take photos inside before showtime. Sometimes when the tour comes through my colleagues and I dont even hear them but we do see them. If you are visiting NYC and want a nice diversion out of the ordinary tourist attractions, come on by and take the tour. You never know who you might see! 😎
It’s definitely a must!!The fact that you get to just stand in a building filled with so much legacy is beautiful. —now the tour itself is a memory to always remember. The staff is friendly and intentional with treating you as guest of the house.the tour is SO INTERESTING and inspiring. I had the privilege of seeing SNL set and I was lucky to see it get setup the day before. There’s so much to say but I won’t ruin the surprise for you!Thank you NBC
What a great tour! We absolutely loved it and our Pages were very talented and insightful. One of the best things we have done while visiting NYC and we have done A LOT. I look forward to the next time we are here to do it again 😁At the end we made a really great promo tape, maybe next time we will be hosting the show.
This tour was a lot more interesting and fun than I thought it would be. We had a great time.We were there on a holiday weekend, so all the shows were on a break, which meant we got to see various studios that we might otherwise have not been allowed into, including the SNL Studio, which alone was worth the price of admission.
We took the tour on Saturday 10/12/19 and it was wonderful!! Our pages Will and Summer were professional, personable, knowledgeable and made the tour so much fun!! We so enjoyed seeing the sets, especially the SNL set and all the behind the scenes goings on there. We learned so much about what goes into making television shows and the history was equally as fascinating! At the end, creating our own talk show was a blast and we all had a lot of laughs! I would do this again for sure, and would highly recommend the tour to anyone visiting NYC! Thank you to Will and Summer for an unforgettable experience!
Great experience. Staff checking you in is super friendly and constantly smiling. The warm up comedian came around beforehand and was joking around with the audience. Waiting for the musical act to set up Seth actually came into the audience and answered any and all random questions we could throw at him. If you have the opportunity to go definitely do it!
Awesome tour. We were able to visit the SNL set, as well as Jimmy Fallon and Seth Myers sets. I understand they rotate the studios they use for the tour. One of our group members needed a wheelchair for the tour and they had one for us to use for free and we were able to go to see every part of the tour.
We went on a Saturday and we got to see every studio except for Late Night with Seth Meyers. We even got to see the SNL set while they were rehearsing, incredible! Tour guides were very nice and knowledgeable. We actually ran late and showed up 10 minutes after our tour start time and they still let us meet up with the rest of the group and join in so I am very thankful for their accommodation!
Went on this tour recently with my family (day after Thanksgiving at 8:40am). This tour is totally worth it to see the iconic sets and learn about some of the history. What was a bummer were the pages... didn’t want to be there, couldn’t answer basic questions, and mostly just wanted to talk about themselves. They didn’t add anything to the tour which is why this is a 4/5.
On the last Saturday afternoon in September, we took this fun and iconic tour. We saw the SNL set from behind a glass wall behind the audience seating. The set was busting with energy from lots of crew members preparing for that nights show. We we learned later it was the first show of the new season. Some in our group recognized 2 actors on stage, talking about their set. We also saw Jimmy Fallons set, and Lester Holts set. I highly recommend this tour if youve never seen TV sets, and are interested.
Do this tour. Its so worth it! Get the bundle and go to the viewing terrace as well. Worth every penny and then some. The pages are so freaking knowledgeable, be kind to them! I had the best experience, I got to sit in on a rehearsal with Jimmy Fallon. I had a blast!!! Could not have been cooler. Best experience ever! Everyone was so nice and professional too.
Awesome experience and peek behind the curtain of the iconic NBC studios in NY. Got to go into the actual studios of The Tonight Show, NBC Evening news and my favorite-Saturday Night Live. The pages give a great informative narrative tour. Just over an hour and well worth it to me. Book on line in advance-it will probably sellout.
The studio tour was pretty great but I was really disappointed we weren’t allowed to take photos. You have the opportunity though to bump into people you’ll recognize. So that was pretty neat. The video shoot was pretty neat although I’m not an on screen type, but the size of the group means you have a good chance to participate if you’d like to. The pages were informative and able to answer question. I think it would have been more fun to participate in a show rather than the tour, but still I think the price for the experience was fair.
Recommend the tour! Spent a lot of time around Rockefeller Center during our trip, tour is semi short but shows multiple cool locations and has great info, may be given a chance to witness a Seth Myers monologue recording as well.If you’re looking for tickets to shows such as Jimmy Fallon it is way more challenging than you may think, system could definitely be improved as you can do all of the steps right and still potentially never get a ticket if you’re from out of town and stand by is difficult because you sacrifice a day of the trip to hopefully.. get a ticket.
This tour was a huge disappointment during my week-long visit to New York. It felt like a blatant money grab, starting and ending in the gift shop, being led by two pages who did not want to be there (one of whom openly said as much). We got to see the sets for SNL and one of the late night shows but learned nothing about the shows, or the studios operations or rich history. A large part of the one hour tour was wasted doing an activity where we watched one tour participant pretend to interview another participant as if on a late night show. Might have been fun for young children but we were all adults. I felt robbed.EDIT: Got in touch with NBC after they responded below. They were very understanding and offered me tickets to retake the tour, which was appreciated as Im sure with different tour guides it would have been a better experience, as reflected in the other reviews.
This was a great tour! We were lucky enough to be able to be on the floor of SNL, rather than the seating balcony because we went on the off season. I would definitely recommend going on a weekend, so that you can see Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers studios. Our tour guides were very friendly and seemed excited about their jobs. They also were willing to check about a question they didnt know the answer to. We were running late and got there right at our reservation time, and the security staff was very rude. They apparently want you to get there 40 minutes ahead of time, and if youre not there early, they treat you with disdain. While I understand the need for tour goers to be on time, Im sure people are late often, and they should expect that to be the case. Theres no need for hostility.
Really enjoyed the tour! Got to see studios for SNL, Tonight Show, and Late Night. Small group and the guides answered all of our questions. Lots of behind the scenes info, etc. Best part was we got to make a small show and keep the recording. Lots of fun! Only bad thing was NO photography.
Absolute definite for any NBC fan. I went on the tour on a Monday morning during the late night shows hiatus so i was able to see the Jimmy Fallon studio, Lester Holts news studio and the Saturday Night Live studio and they were really cool. On my tour there was a Chinese tour there and they had their translator tour them around so my family kind of had a personal tour with the pages and that was really interesting. It was a little awkward doing the On Air thing but it was still fun. The tour was definetly worth the price and the shop was also worth to have a look at after the tour.
One of the better tours that gave an insight to the behind the scenes working of the studios and the building. The groups was the right size and the tour guides were very good, knowledgeable and helpful. This is one to be recommended. It was good to see inside a studio and also to watch some workers in action at their consoles - you cannot fail to be impressed by what happens. The downside for us, we shared with a school group - they dominated and it meant that the final aspect of working in studio meant that my son was sidelined in discussions of roles - we were left to camera. This was a shame and the teacher should have stepped in - otherwise it would have been 5stars. They would find it easier to return than we will, however, highly recommended but make sure you do not share with a selfish school group!
I was originally very excited to go on the Tour at NBC, however that excitement quickly disappeared due to my two tour guides. I could tell that they were not interested in their job and this attitude bled into our tour. They acted as if nothing we were seeing was special or significant. I got the impression that they felt they had more important things to do.I think if the tour guides provided more context, history, and content about what we were seeing and why it was significant the tour would have been more interesting. All that being said, Evan and Anthony could have significantly improved my experience if they had more energy and were more engaging.
Tour guides Stephanie and Abby were mediocre at best. They kept forgetting some of their lines and were very awkward girls. BUT seeing the actual sets for the NBC shows made up for it. No pics allowed. Use the restroom a good 20 minutes beforehand because the closest restroom is pretty far away. It’s a fast moving tour but it ended up being 1 hour 30 minutes. We were lucky to see all of the sets but not everyone will get to because a show might need to film or the room needs to be empty etc
Worth every penny. To be behind the scenes of SNL and Jimmy Fallon/Seth Mayer shows, see how much work has been put in by all the employees at NBC studios...it was breathtaking. Our tour guides, Aria and Carissa, were amazing. Very knowledgeable and pleasant. I will do this tour all over again when I am back in NYC. 👍
I went on a tour on Saturday Feb 9th at 4:40 pm, overall not bad, but for the price we should be able to take some pictures, and would of been nice to seen a little more than we did. Best part of the tour was making a 5 minute video being the host of NBC late night talk soon:) The tour guides on both young ladies were friendly and did a good job.
I loved doing this tour. It was more than I expected to see. There are people working while you are doing the tour, thats why you have to maintain silence and order. I loved being able to do a program. The only thing is that they indicated that the copy of what we had done would arrive by mail and it did not happen. I liked being able to buy a souvenir of the programs they have
Originally, I left a one-star review because when we first went:-SNLs set was closed-Jimmy Fallons set was closed-Seth Myers set was closed.Basically we spent almost $200 and drove 300 miles to see Lester Holts desk. But then I needed to edit my review after being contacting by NBC Studios and was offered a re-do of our tour. The customer service is exceptionally friendly and now I am gladly editing my review to reflect the level of service I have since received.
Really short tour that wasnt worth the price. They only show you either the Seth Meyers stage or Jimmy Fallon and staff working in the production room. Although, creating your own version of late night television show was fun, it definitely wasnt worth the price. I highly dont recommend it, studio tours in LA are much better.
Amazing tour! For around $30, you get to see multiple sets like the tonight show and Saturday night live. In addition, the tour guides were super helpful, knew everything NBC related, and really made the group feel like they knew each other even though we just met. They also have a mock interview that the whole group participates in. For out group, we did an Olympic interview, since NBC was hosting the Olympic games. Afterwards, a clip of the interview was emailed to everyone in the group.
Do not be late for your tour. Do not expect that they will shout your name or even look for you. They will go ahead without you.If you manage to get there on time the staff is great. The tour is a little pricey for what you get but... Well youre already there.Enjoy your trip New York is a beautiful city
This tour was very fun but I wish it was longer. We got to see SNL sets being prepared for the show that night, as well as the Tonight Show. The tour guides were very knowledgeable. We made a funny night show video at the end with people from the tour. It was silly and embarrassing but very fun to make. My boyfriend wasnt really looking forward to this tour but he said he was very pleasantly surprised at what it was. Give it a try if you have a chance.
Interesting insight into one of the main players in television.Booking in advance is recommended as tours are limited in number to around 20 per group and run during basic business hours. The tours are presented by two ushers who, whilst following a well rehearsed script, are actually very knowledgeable and can easily answer the random questions of the tour group. As it is, the tour is done at a quick pace and whilst you do get to see the studios of some of the biggest shows and see the 1920s décor, one comes away feeling a little underwhelmed. What you actually see and hear is limited. The tour should include a museum of well curated artifacts with a history of historic moments and explanations of how things work to allow guests to feel that theyve had value for money.
Nice behind the scenes tour, make you realize how different what you see on tv is from where it is filmed. The guides were great and knew their stuff. The ending make your own show really was more for the kids, which we had one woman on our tour that thought she would be the next tonight show host, my hats off to the guides to make sure the children got the leading roles if they were interested.
This tour was one of the highlights of our trip. We’re big NBC show fans and it was incredible to see live studios for SNL, Late Night with Seth Meyers, and the NBC News (we couldn’t see Jimmy Fallon’s set because they were already “preparing.” Perhaps an earlier tour would have helped with this problem, we were on the 11:20 a.m. tour thinking that might still be early enough before the weekly live tapings would need to start getting ready). The tour staff was incredible, certainly the nicest and most accommodating we found on our trip to NYC. We had a mixup with our tickets (our fault) that ultimately was going to put us out of tour window and they did what they could to catch us up with our group, which they did not have to do and where other tour companies may not have. We were very appreciative of that as this was our last opportunity to do it (the tour had been sold out every day prior during our trip). We lucked out even getting tickets for our tour day as we went two days ahead of time to reserve them. I might suggest getting them ahead of time online if you know your day. Our tour guides were great and quite knowledgeable, and while it didn’t seem like we were in each studio for very long, the tour overall was a little over an hour. I would highly recommend this for anyone visiting NYC, but certainly NBC show fans like us!
In this tour you will see the actual studios where The Tonight Show, SNL, and other NBC hits are filmed. You will learn about what goes on behind the scenes, and even have the opportunity to be in a short film with your group. Its fun, interesting, and well worth the admission fee of around $35.
The NBS Studio Tour was somewhat interesting, but mostly an exit through the gift shop experience. Even though we went on a good day when there was no filming going on we werent allowed to get close to any of the sets and were relegated to the back, admiring covered tables and restricted areas from a distance. The tour also ended with an awkwardly forced studio experience that was clearly meant to be fun and interactive but turned out to be an uncomfortable and impromptu acting/public speaking role for most of the people involved.
Its definitely more geared towards children, but was still an enjoyable experience and I learned from it. Got to see Studio 8H! But was a little disappointed we didnt get to see more. Also, if you do have kids, the tour begins in the gift shop, and that could be a little frustrating.
I enjoyed the tour. Our intern tour guides were so much fun. I learned so much of what goes on behind the scenes. I was very surprised at how much smaller things are than what they look like on TV. The magic of TV. One of my favorite parts was seeing the Pipes that looked like Muppets from when Sesame Street used to be in that studio area. Thank you Jimmy Fallon for honoring and preserving the art of some great people.
Absolutely FAB! I can not praise this tour enough. My son was captivated by the information and what we saw! It was great to be behind the scenes and see how it all works. The guides are very knowledgeable and nothing was too much trouble. This is well worth a visit and for anyone who has an interest in the TV industry from a layperson point of view this is an absolute MUST!
Great fun tour! The two guides were awesome , The big guy, Luke, let this little sever-year-old hang on his hip the whole time and called him his assistant. The kid was so happy! The other guide was good and he really followed Lukes lead making it fun and funny. I would go again to see the two of them work together!
An outstanding tour of the NBC studios and control room. The staff knew their facts very well and were very friendly. Got to see some amazing studios and halls. Though, I do wish you could see the TODAY show studio (at the time we went they were not filming). Overall it was a WONDERFUL tour, and I HIGHLY suggest any NBC News or NBC show fan go on the tour.
I cannot provide pictures for this review as you are restricted from taking ANY photos of ANYTHING. That is one of my biggest complaints. When I asked why, our tour guide just shrugged her shoulders and said, “There may be celebrities around.” I said...”So?? If they don’t want their picture taken they should be in another line of work.” (We did not see any celebrities, FWIW.) People take pictures of EVERYTHING these days and to be forbidden is absolutely ridiculous. They also need to have words with their security staff. I had two knee braces on, one under my jeans, one over. This guy was an absolute jerk and humiliated me in front of the entire group. He told me, loudly, to step aside and spread my legs. I pointed to my knee brace and said, “that is why the detector is going off.” He ignored me and said, “spread your legs!”, RUDELY. He was not at all compassionate or accommodating. He was treating me like scum because of knee braces. They didn’t treat me like that at THE WORLD TRADE CENTER, ESB or Top of the Rock- the SAME BUILDING as this tour. At all of those places I was treated phenomenally and was told if I needed help, to just ask. That guy needs a 6 month seminar on how to treat people. The tour itself is short. You see three studios (SNL, Jimmy Fallon & Seth Myers) and make a video with the other people on your tour. That was fun BUT I nominated my husband to play the announcer in our skit, WAY BEFORE anyone else showed interest, and the guide ignored me completely and chose some other guy. I was shocked and I actually protested and said I spoke up first and AGAIN she shrugged her shoulders and said, “He raised his hand.” I was standing adjacent to him...he did not raise his hand and I had both of mine raised and pointed at my husband. Our tour guides were Bella & India. They were pleasant but not very knowledgeable or talkative. They didn’t talk on any the elevator rides, or when we were walking around and only had basic knowledge of the 3 shows/studios we visited. No other history, nothing. I think if we had more lively guides it would have been better but I definitely will not spend this much money again to find out.
Awesome tour with some fun pages! My friend and I went on Monday 4/9/18 at 9:20am and got to see the sets for Lester Holt, Jimmy Fallon, and SNL. It was basically just us at the Lester Holt set - but Cardie Bs backup dancers were rehearsing at Jimmy Fallon and the crew was packing up all of the props from the SNL show a couple days before. You get to make your own show taping with your tour group at the end - and it was a fun way to end the experience! You also get to keep the magnetic button given to you which makes for a nice souvenir as well.
Cool place the store is fun.Neat artifacts & facts throughout the store.Make sure you have reservations if you want to take the tour. You may even get a chance to sit in a show or a pre screening. If you walk around the the plaza you can see NBC corporate and NBC production areas
This was our 3rd time to the city and we didnt want to do the same typical NY touristy things we did before (Statue of Liberty, Empire State, etc.). I thought this was a great alternative. I love Kathy Lee and Hoda, Jimmy Fallon and SNL so I booked us tickets. We went to the Thursday @11:20 tour). We were a few minutes late (our fault) and had to pass through a behind the scenes TSA -type security check before being ushered into our group. FYI- No food or drinks allowed. No phones out and ABSOLUTELY no photos. (Plan accordingly). We had two tour guides. They were really fun and had good chemistry together; you can tell they were actual friends. This made for a fun tour. We saw the set of SNL, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, and everything in between. On our way back I saw Lorde rehearsing on stage. You have a better chance of seeing SNL rehearsals if you attended on a Friday. (Wish I would have known that!) Our tour concluded with a mock late night recording. Everyone in our group had a part (host, guest, announcer, band members, camera crew, etc). It was really fun. It reminded me of kids doing imaginative play. We were emailed a copy of the video and we were able to forward it to friends and family. Our magnetic lapel pin that showed we were on the tour was our take away gift. It was a nice touch. Our tour was about 1 1/2 hours long. I felt the $30ish admission fee was worth it and would recommend taking the tour if you never have. Also, as a side note, on exiting the building I met Louis Licari. (He does the Ambush Makeover segment with Kathy Lee and Hoda.) What a genuinely nice man!
Dont miss the opportunity to walk through the SNL, Jimmy Fallon studios and have a really cool tour. It costs U$35. And if u visit the shop, you can find an intern searching 4 audience for some rehearsals and, echo, knows, get the golden ticket to see Jimmy Fallon Late Show with the famous celebrities
After watching SNL since it debuted in 1975, it was almost a religious experience actually seeing Studio 8H in person. And, alas, it is about as close as you can get to seeing the show in person, since snagging tickets is harder than winning the lottery (yes, Ive tried). The pages were excellent in providing historic context for all the stops on the tour. If you grew up with The Tonight Show, Late Night, SNL, and other NBC classics, this is a must-do tour. If you have a bit of radio/television geek in you, the network operations center is something to behold. Highly recommend.
My son and I took the tour on Saturday (Nov 10). We were treated to checking out the sets of Fallon, Meyers and SNL. We were also lucky enough to catch the last rehearsal for that evenings final skit on SNL.The biggest highlight for me was seeing the Muppet Pipes! Hats off to Fallon for making this a part of that tour. Its very special. Its obvious the people (talent and behind-the-scenes) take pride in what they are creating and contributing to.
Growing up on a diet of nbc shows I was pretty excited, but felt that the tour didnt quite live up to expectations. While yes you do get to go into three working studios, they were covered in tarp (and I think the lights werent even on in two of them) so you dont really get to see much. A highlight is the chance to star in your own production, but I felt that this was aimed at younger visitors rather than adults who had forked out not an insignificant sum to visit. The tour itself was quite short, and I felt that the pages were lacklustre. Full disclosure- I was on the 8.30am tour, but surely they could have mustered up some enthusiasm?? Do yourself a favour and skip this, and go do the Warner Brothers tour in Burbank instead (that one was aaaamazing + they let you take pictures)!!!
This is a must if youre a Tonight Show, SNL and NBC fan! You get to visit the sets briefly and you can also see where NBC Nightly News is shot. I was hoping to run into a celebrity, but we were there when both shows were on vacation around Memorial Day, so it was pretty quiet. If you go during a week when SNL is on live, you might get to see a rehearsal.
I visited the gift shop, unique Jimmy Fallon, NBC peacock pillows. We thought you can get free Late Night Show tickets, but said show that night was sold out. They also told us dont buy tickets from street vendors (scam), but to go online for a waiting list. While I missed the tour, I explored the many shops, dining in lower level. Views of Rockefeller Center ice skaters. Will return.
The Pages at the NBC Studio took us on an interesting and fun tour of some studios where various shows are filmed. This included NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, MSNBC, and Saturday Night Live. It also included a 5 minute segment where I and my fellow tour-mates hosted our own live show!
The tour itself was slightly interesting, but the customer service before was terrible. We were told it was mandatory to show up 30 mins early for the tour, but when we arrived we were just told to paruse the gift shop until our tour time. The gift shop was unimpressive, and being that we were tired from a full day of walking, we decided to sit down on some small steps in the back of the shop as there was absolutely no proper place to sit. We were promply and rudely scolded by a manager who told us we couldnt sit down, and then followed around by a mustachioed security guard who took issue with us leaning and standing in the way of paying customers. This was absolutely ridiculous as there were about 5-10 other people in the shop, all of whom were also killing time before their tour. Finally, when the tour started we went through the security checkpoint where I was curtly told that I had to remove my hotel key from my pocket next time as it was metallic(I had gone through airport security with my wallet in my pocket just days earlier). I understood the need for security, but its a room key, do you really have to be a jerk about it. The tour itself was moderately interesting as we got to see the Jimmy Fallon, SNL, and Tonight Show Sets, but the lack of customer service on the front end really soured my experience. Unfortunately, I wouldnt recommend this tour to anyone as it was short, expensive, and overrated.
You should book for you lovely program ahead of time (months)in order o get you spot while recording the interview. If you want to get the normal tour (you can book it ahead of time (days or weeks) the tour is worthy. You can find thier store for everything they use while recording ..
We decided at the last minute to add this to our itinerary and I’m so glad we did. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. We loved seeing the studios and somehow the pages seemed to know the answer to every single question asked by the people in our group.
The tour was amaziiiing!!!!...I was in a bad time so the nbc give me the opportunities to come back and see all the tour again. I have seen the stages where the tonight show and snl go on air. Ive seen also the control room and the office where all the news start. It is an experience that you have to do!!Before I wrote:(We spend a lot of money to reach NY from Italy and I can see one stage behind glass. No jimmy fallon, no snl. I think that people should know that before.)
Starts with a 10 minute video by Al Rocker about NBCs history. We were shown 3 studios: Lester Holts, SNL(most interesting) and Jimmy Fallons (only because he was taping live that week). There were ppl offering free tickets for Seth Meyer show rehearsal later in the day. Almost took a star off because there were no restrooms.
I was a tourist for the day and took the NBC Studio Tour. It’s actually very cool to see the behind the scenes. I would have loved to see things while filming and what not but you basically tour when everything is closed. See the studio of Jimmy Fallon, SNL, Dr. Oz, etc. My favorite is the Jim Henson muppet corner.
The tour was pricey ($24) and not worth it. Better off spending a few more bucks and visiting the top of the Rockefeller Center. Whole thing felt short and devoid of worthwhile content. I love NBC shows but this tour is awful. They started us off with a video that was essentially a long uninformative commercial for NBC. We saw the studio where Fallon is filming but the place was empty and everything was covered up. We saw the SNL studio but it was mostly obstructed by a set for Football Night stuff. Everything else was covered up. You briefly walk by their Broadcasting Operations Centre and they say one line about it. Then they take you into a room with a short video about making custom costumes for SNL casts and hosts, before they do a photo-op and make you pay for pictures. The worst part of the whole thing was at the end, they told us they had a gift for us, but the joke was that the gfit was our ticket stubs. For a huge corporation making a tonne of money, they sure are stingy. The least they could do is offer a dinky free souvenir at the end, like a pen or a sticker. Instead they just mocked us! Really disappointed with NBC.EDIT: Oh yeah, also they made us go through security for 10 minutes, going through your bags, confiscating anything dangerous, and youre not allowed to take any pictures, drink or eat, or go to the bathroom.
You dont get to go to all of the studios they portray in the video. My tour got kicked out of the News room because of breaking news Then took us to a studio that looks like its being torn down (Dr Oz). And the only one that was even remotely interesting was the SNL stage. And the whole time youre told where youre allow to stand, and you DONT sit in the seats on any of the stages. Not worth the money.
Im a big NBC nerd, so I was so excited to go on the NBC studio tour. And it didnt disapoint - you get to see where tv magic is made. From Jimmy Fallon to Dr. Oz, I was amazed at the studios, and how they look where theyre off camera. The pages are extremely knowledgeable about the network and really make the experience fun and exciting.
At about $30 a person you gain access to studios like that of SNL and Jimmy Fallon. Get ready also for an embarrassing yet entertaining make your own commedy skit filming. You will be asked to take a spot at a demo stage where you and everyone on your tour will read teleprompter lines, manage cameras and play the drums.
NBC thinks its the great puppeteer and they shuffle people around like puppets. That goes for Today Show, Saturday Night live and Jimmy Fallon. The young blond interns I assume are interns, are rood and need some lessons in people skills. Ive watched NBC shows for many many years but I think I will convert to Good morning America and look for other shows on alternate channels.Sorry to see what happened to Ann but now I understand. I know its big business and its controlled by businessmen or Bastards?
Interesting to see the other side of what we watch on TV. Got to go in the set for Nightly News with Lester Holt and the Tonight Show studio. They also have a little set where you tour group films a talk show...hilarious.VERY strict NO PICTURES policy...they will kick you out.
Couldnt get any better then this tour. The tickets are only 20.00 and if you are a NY Resident you get a discount. The tour takes you behind the scences of so many shows and you would be SO surprised to see how TINY some of these studios really are..The tour runs everyday from 9am to 5pm and is a MUST do if you love anything NBC.
If youve always wanted a behind the scenes view of workings of NBC Studios, the NBC Studio Tour is a great choice. Youll learn about the history of NBC, as well as have a chance to see the studios used for several shows, including Saturday Night Live, Nightly News with Brian Williams and NBC Sports. After spending about 10 minutes being led through security checkpoints and elevators, we arrived at the first stop on our NBC Studios Tour -- the NBC History Theatre. After our guides, Greg and Greer, demonstrated some of the tools used to create sound effects during NBCs early days as a radio broadcaster, we watched a brief video featuring Matt Lauer and Katie Couric. Matt and Katie welcomed us to the studio, and further discussed NBCs history. The video featured clips from many past and present NBC productions, including the Today Show which began in 1952 and the Tonight Show which first aired in 1954.Our group was then brought to see the broadcast control room, where visitors can observe through a glass wall the monitors that are responsible for broadcasting over 100 hours of programming daily. NBC also has a backup broadcast control center in L.A., but with enough backup power to last a week without electricity, NYC seems pretty reliable. Our group was then led through three different studios: Studio 3C where NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams is filmed; Studio 3K, home to NBC Sports, most famous for its Olympic coverage; and Studio 8H where Saturday Night Live is filmed. Studios featured on the tour vary, depending on which are being used, so youre not likely to see a studio thats in use or get a glimpse at any of your favorite NBC stars, but its still neat to see what the Nightly News or Saturday Night Live set looks like when no one is there. After seeing the studios, we were led to the Mini-Control Room, where each small group of visitors had an opportunity to have their picture taken behind the mock news desk. (Photos were available for sale after the tour, starting at $12.95, but there was no sales-pressure.) A volunteer from our group demonstrated how the green screen used for depicting weather forecasts, and even read a mythical weather report from the teleprompter. The last stop on our tour was the NBC/Panasonic HDTV Theater. Supposedly intended to depict the future of television and NBC, it was little more than a montage of clips from NBC shows. The NBC Studios tour offers a thoroughly scripted opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes workings of the studios housed at 30 Rockefeller Center, but its still an enjoyable experience. Its an especially great choice if you have in climate weather, since the entire tour is indoors, and also good for visitors who cant take too much walking or standing -- there are opportunities to sit for much of the tour.
If youre a fan of NBC or interested in the way television is made, you have to check this out. Of course youre not going to get full access but you get to see real sets, control rooms, and more - some while being used. This is a fascinating glimpse into the world on the other side of the camera - youd be amazed at what they do to make it all happen.
I took this tour in the last year of conan obrians tenure at nbc it was the best time i had that year the tour lasted a couple of hours the guide was amazing at combining the information of the past and the current television, the true highlight was being in the audience at the end .
Although you are not able to take any photos or videos on the tour which is crucial to my job as my blogger because lets face it without photo proof no one believes that you actually did this. But i was glad i got to see the studios were jimmy kimmel live is recorded and snl was recording for their premiere in front of me. I saw keenen singing in front of my own eyes. 😍. You get to record a mini late night tv show skit as a keepsake after the tour and get to keep a nbc tour gold pin. For $33 it was worth it.and keep your admission ticket for 10% off anything in gift store
This is more a review of NBC than it is the studios. NBC, get rid of those bigoted Christophobe writers on SNL. You wont, because you have caved into the liberal elite (the same people that mistakenly believe the religiously unaffiliated are the largest religious group in the US, they arent). Fellow Christians, stand up to these bigots!
Only two studios, the saturday night live and one where weather information is produced. You really see nothing, only these two studios empty with a girl telling a story about them. No photos allowed, no restrooms, you have to book and if you are not on time you lose your ticket, no changes, no refunds.
Woo Hoo NBC. Yet another tourist trip in which you can suck away money from herds of people. Well, this place is pretty much what youd expect from a merchandise store. Youll be able to find tshirts, cups, keychains, and other random trinkets here for every single NBC show known to man. If there is a way for them to make some money off of you, then they have a product for that here.Granted some of the stuff is kind of neat, but for the most part, there isnt really much to see here. Then again, if youre at Rockefeller Center, then youre probably looking for tourist-y things to do anyway. The store itself is pretty decently sized, divided up by each NBC show. Theres really not much else more to say about this place, except for the fact that if you love NBC shows and really really want to show your love for them, then this is the place to be. Throw your money to the network and stock up on random goodies.
Located at the bottom of the rockerfeller centre, this place is a must for tv fans.great merchandise for nbc shows such as house, friends, smash, the office, dr oz, the voice, royal pains and even has a nice clearance section.just upstairs is the tour taking you through some of the commonly used sets such as 30rock.great building and architecture - a must! - beautiful views outside of the ice rink in winter.

2019-10-11This place was a lot of fun if you are into a behind the scenes look. Like the SNL set is so small. I was impressed what the could do in such a small space. The pages were fun and knowledgeable. Suggest going at around lunch time. You get more access when the sets are not being used in rehearsals.

2017-01-02It was really entertaining. At least the tour in the building by the NBC pages. Dont bother with the walking tour by the outside company that includes the NBC tour in their package. That guide was a no show. We had to call to find out that, they had a death in the family. But I highly recommend going on the tour put on by the pages.

2020-04-06Loved this tour! We had fabulous tour guides/pages who made the experience even better. This is a great way to get a peek at everything that goes on behind the scenes at NBC studios. We got to see the Jimmy Fallon set along with SNL which was very cool. We got to sit in the seats at SNL which was very iconic. The end of the tour was a blast because we got to film our very own late night show and then they sent a copy to us as a souvenir. Would definitely love to do this tour again because it seems like it is always changing.

2019-09-16Absolutely loved the tour, our paiges, Will and Ali, were fantastic. Very informative, extremely fun and friendly, and just all around nice people. We thoroughly enjoyed going backstage and getting a chance to see the stage/ set for SNL, OFallon, and the morning show. Id highly recommend this tour if youre on vacation in NYC.

2019-12-15It was fantastic, and one of the highlights of my NYC trip. The guides are so friendly and helpful. The studio where you act like in the TV show was the best. I had so much fun

2019-08-09The NBC Tour is great and a must do when visiting NYC for any film/TV lover. They give you a rich history about NBC and take you behind the scenes where nightly news is broadcasted , where SNL takes place and other cool studios.Felt bad for our tour guide. One of the people on the tour asked her how much the job pays , then 15 minutes later said to her that salary is tough living in NYC no ? Some people got no manners !

2020-02-17The tour was super nice. Had a sneak-peak into the production of TV programs and the studio of Jimmy Fallon’s show. They even have this program that lets you and all the other people on the tour record your own Tonight’s Show at the end of the tour! The result was super embarrassing but it was hella fun! Would definitely recommend anyone interested in the production of TV shows to take this tour.

2019-01-02If you blink, you might miss the whole tour. You’re rushed very quickly through the studios with your massive group. Oh and absolutely no pictures are allowed to document the experience or even proof that you were there. It is, however, neat to see the places you’ve seen on tv hundreds of times before your very eyes. I give it three stars because I guess it could be considered gracious of NBC to let us into their studios at all given the busy schedule of television. Here are pictures from the public part of the building that might as well have nothing to do with the tour

2020-02-21Quite an unbelievable experience to walk the same halls that many of our favorite television personalities have journey down. I made it a tad late to get tickets for Jimmy Fallon, however I was able to score one to Seth Meyers! I remember studying theatre and watching SNL thinking how cool it is for these entertainers to work at NBC. I love the tribute to all the past and present stars and that mural was surreal.

2019-07-24Worth the price, very interesting to walk around the same space where comedians and everyone involved in creating SNL and the other night talks shows walk as well, the give you a great overview and history of the process of creating the shows as well and fun/interesting anecdotes. I recommend booking 4 or more days in advance to make sure tickets don’t run out.
