This place is legit for breakfast. My best friend got fried eggs with some cheddar cheese melted on top, home fries that looked cooked very well. I got some of the most legit corned beef hash Ive ever had. Like, take good olIrish corned beef out of the Crockpot, including all those fatty pieces, and fry it up with those potatoes kind of legit. Then we ordered a blueberry muffin grilled and buttered. I was shocked at how light it was - not dense like poundcake. Everything was delicious, coffee kept flowing, waitress was a doll. This might be one of my new favourite places.
Another bad review... 2 in a month. Bought a gift card for $30 before Christmas for my grandmother. Took her today for breakfast at the Malta location and was told there was nothing on the gift card. I am extremely irritated with this establishment. Such bad business. Certainly will be spreading the word and will NEVER return.
What a great experience. The service was outstanding, our waitress was amazing and the food was excellent. I got an omelette with the home fries and Italian toast. My husband got the Bananas Foster french toast. The home fries were crispy and delicious. Coffee also top notch. But the waitress stole the show, on top of everything. Highly recommend.
The food was great and cooked exactly as requested. Service was on point and Shannon was fantastic. I wish they had broccoli or fresh peppers for the omelets. I know everything is going up in price but their prices were a bit pricey for breakfast. All the other meals that went by looked delicious as well.
Stopped in for breakfast and was very impressed. The atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. The big attraction though is the food, it is great. I loved the corned beef hash they make from scratch. The pancakes and home fries are excellent as well. The coffee was an excellent complement to the whole thing.I would gladly go here again or recommend this place to friends and family.Update:. If you are here and leave hungry you can only blame yourself. The food is delicious, I particularly recommend trying the yummy cakes. Service and staff are still exceptionally good, always worth the visit.
First off who doesn’t love this place the food is fantastic and the place is always busy and the wait time is never that bad at all. Honestly the food is worth the way. My family and I got here a lot and have never had a bad experience. Even my little ones love the Ugly Rooster. So if you haven’t been you need to go. And they just opened a second location so now you have even more options. Just do yourself a favor and stop in get some breakfast or lunch up to you and enjoy. Happy eating all you foodies out there.
Second time weve visited and the food and service again was spot-on. I cant point out enough the quality of the wait staff. At a time when its hard to find good people, this place has identified a highly competent staff that keeps the fresh food moving quickly and the coffee cup filled. Great find in an out-of-the-way location! BTW, got the Bananas Foster French Toast and Home fries. Delish and more than I could eat.
I have been waiting to try this place and it didn’t disappoint! Fresh coffee, I loved my Spanish omelette and the home fries were delish! I ate everything 😃 the service was also wonderful- we were treated like family! The place is also full of cute rooster 🐔 decorations. Will definitely return. So glad there is a new Malta location as well!
I moved here not too long ago. The first thing everyone Ive met said was to try The Ugly Rooster. I totally get it now! The food was amazing, the staff was incredibly friendly. Their food was definitely the best welcome Ive had so far! Breath of fresh air compared to all the ok pizza spots, fast food, and a single mediocre sports pub. Thank you very much guys!
Everything is good. The berry bruschetta is a great starter to start the meal off. Its like a breakfast appetizer. The tasty cakes are good but are very sweet. I also had one of the egg wraps with the shaved steak and onions in it. Coffee is good. Not to strong and not to weak. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a variety of breakfast foods you dont get any wear else that are all good
Their 2nd location opened in Malta at the site of the old diner. This site demonstrates that they provide excellent food at the right price, AND, they care that you have an excellent dining experience. If you havent been there yet, youre missing out on a real culinary treat!!
The Ugly Rooster catered our wedding 09/18/2021 and knocked it out of the park! We got married on the lawn at our familys farmhouse near Schaghticoke, which wasnt without its logistical challenges, but Mary (for planning and prep ) and Ariel and his team were ready to handle anything. They brought everything they needed to prepare our phenomenal meals on site, and staff were friendly, attentive, and willing to lend a hand throughout. When a torrential downpour hit just as dinner was about to be served, and gusting winds were threatening to blow our tent walls away, the URC somehow kept everything warm and even crispy until the worst of the weather had passed and everyone could eat comfortably. They never missed a beat and I cant say enough how grateful I am to have worked with them!I chose the URC for the wedding because I love their food in the Mechanicville cafe, at Easter brunch, and now in Malta. They have a GREAT and extensive catering menu, and their pricing is very reasonable. Highly recommend for any local event needs!
I dined here with some friends Sat may 20 and Sunday may 21. The food is GREAT. Awesome staff. Food came out fast both days. Very consistent. Corned beef hash is actually corned beef. Not canned stuff. We had tables of 4 and 5. No wait either day. Tammy is the best server. I will return every time I visit the area
Always yummy! This is a great little place for breakfast & lunch. My favorite is the bananas foster topping for pancakes, french toast or waffles. They recently added a mixed berry bruschetta, which is very good....just needs more of the cream cheese jam spread. Make sure to ask for extra!
Went for breakfast. Everything was delicious with generous portions. My gluten free egg dish with a side of gluten free pancakes was sooooo very good!! I love that its such a cozy, family oriented place. Love all the whimsy rooster decor. And the staff was so friendly and totally understood my concerns about cross contamination which Im thrilled to say they are well versed in. Just a great local place that services breakfast and lunch. 👍👌
The Eggs Benedict was delicious (and the eggs were poached, not fried). My wife enjoyed her breakfast sandwich. The corned beef hash was tasty and obviously homemade. The home fries were perfectly prepared and portions were generous. The coffee was standard cafe style and by the third refill the smell of dish soap had rinsed off the mug. knowing with certainty soap was used to clean the dishes was a bonus I guess. It is nicely lit and well decorated. It was busy without seeming crowded.
We had Lunch. the staff and owner were great, friendly and helpful. Its been a long time since I had an dining experience where the staff and a bowl of soup and sandwich were in a word Awsome. Come warm weather, I am going to make this place a lunch stop for the biker crowd. 5 stars
Ambience: simple and to the point. Youve come to eat so seat yourself and eat! Bathroom smelt really nice.Menu: Self explanatory menu with plenty of vegetarian options.Service: Very polite staff and fairly quick serviceFood: We got the veggie omelette and the veggie burrito (eggs on me its called). Oh my, the home style fries were the best Ive ever had in America. The omelette was a 3/5. Was fairly decent and sumptuous. The burrito was very very good! My wife digged right in :)
This is one of my all time favorite places. The food is delicious and the service is fast and friendly. If you like cute, country decor and roosters, this is the place. Get the Southern Style Breakfast Sandwich. Its the greatest thing ever and is definitely two meals.
Absolutely great place to eat breakfast. The house special is a really inexpensive way to have a good start to your day. I tend to go during the weekdays around 7am and find it isnt too busy, which is just the way I prefer it. I havent eaten lunch here in quite some time, probably since they moved to their current location, but it was once again a great portion at a very fair price. If you live in the area, or are even in town for whatever reason you definitely owe it to yourself to go at least once!
What a find! Dont expect anything fancy - just a warm environment, delicious fare ( I had the veggie burger and my husband had the tacos), and incredible service. Does a great business - lots of locals are regulars. Easy to strike up a conversation. Food is served quickly - a big plus for us.
For a busy Sunday the wait was less then 1 min, the staff came right over, made sure we were ok with our seats. Coffee came fast and we while not rushed were holding them up. Everyone was ready to get us fed. Gluten free options, and the whole menu can be made at any time. Prices are very fair for the amount of food too. If there is a draw back its simply you gotta find on street parking most days, but thats not bad either.
Great food! Ariel is very good at what he does, and cares about his customers. We went for Easter Sunday brunch and it was delicious. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Its a smaller size place, but it is a must go location for anyone who enjoys good food in the capital region.
Great food. The staff was very accomadating and made sure our gluten sensitive diner got food that was safe to eat. They can sit large groups without an advance reservation. My friend and I were able to each order a plate and split them which was great. Their vegetarian burger is delicious!
Recently went to The Ugly Rooster Cafe while traveling through Mechanicsville and the food was to die for! My friends and I agree that the Ugly Rooster made the rest of the food on our trip feel disappointing because nothing could compare. I ate the eggs benedict and it was the best I have had and the potatoes were delicious too.
Shared a great meal here with our uncle a few years ago, little did we know that this place would be the last place we ever got to sit with our uncle and have a last meal with him, before he unexpectedly passed away not too long after. This place was his FAVORITE and will always cherish this place for being so involved with the community and having an amazing wait staff and cooks.
I have gone to Ugly Rooster for years, but recently discovered that I have a gluten sensitivity. I was so excited to see that they offer GF French Toast, Pancakes, and regular Toast!! And I have to say, it is all pretty damn good!!! I will definitely be going there regularly for their Gluten Free choices.
This food is out of this world! I miss the smaller location, it was more personal and they staff was awesome. Theyre still good but it just doesnt have the same feel it once did. I wish they had kept it small and opened additional locations like Malta/Ballston Spa. I recommend the benedict, and the home fries are TO DIE FOR!
Went there once, I got sick to my stomach almost didn’t make it out the door, I puked all over the front steps. I then thought it was just me, so I went again. Same thing happened, I had the whole day planned, it ruined it all. Don’t eat the eggs. Thought I was dying. Absolutely disgusting. Look at there kitchen. Awful, just awful.
It was my daughters wedding this weekend. The Ugly Rooster catered her wedding and her celebration brunch the next day. I cannot find enough words to describe the AMAZING meals we had. We have been several times to the restaurant but this was our first experience with the catering side. Ariel and his crew went above and beyond. EVERYONE raved about the experience. If you are looking for fine food, a professional experience with a feeling of family, then The Ugly Rooster is your go to place.
(Repeat customer, so understandably biased) Again they knocked it out of the park. I brought my GF here after a procedure she had and they had a great gluten free selections, even separated potatoes on the grill. Sitting around a cast of regulars, hearing the comradery with the staff, you are enveloped in a warm hug. Large area with plenty of space between your table and your neighbors but still has a cozy vibe.
This is a preferred taste place. I didn’t like anything on the menu as i made a choice for something so simple-it still didn’t taste good. Although being in Mechanicville, they don’t seem to be on the list for food inspection fail, so i gave them 2 stars for that. The rest of the town-fail fail fail. Disgusting.
This review is 7 months late but better late than never! Ariel and his fabulous catering team are WONDERFUL. One of the best decisions was choosing the Ugly Rooster to cater our wedding. Ariel and Mary made everything so easy for us and the food was delicious and raved about by our guests. I will forever reccomend you guys ♡ Thank you for helping to make our day so special! The Ugly Rooster will always be special to us 😊 Best fried green tomatoes too! XOXO

2022-02-22This place has got it going on.Its big, its busy and its good cooking. Has that classic diner vibe all over it. Family owned and operated. My first time there and I got the Harvest Cakes. Expected the sausage on the side, was surprised that it was cooked into the pancake. Was good regardless. Reminded me of a sausage corn dog but way better. My Dad got the Eggs Benedict. He said it was good, I didnt get to try any ☹️. The home fries that came with it were my favorite thing of all.My Mom got the strawberry waffle. Pretty good 👍Prices are good too. Only questionable thing is the parking. Dont worry, its fun

2022-01-04It is so rare to find a perfect Eggs Benedict. Ive been disappointed in so many places from down to upstate. When the waitress asked how our food was while I was eating it, my eyes rolled back and that pretty much said enough. The French Toast was great but they went way too heavy on the glaze. We scooped it off and tried it, enjoying the taste when the sugar wasnt overpowering it anymore. The Corned Beef Hash was fantastic, Homefries are so seasoned and we LOVED that. Most places underseason Homefries. The Fried Green Tomatoes are PERFECT. The batter is crispy and flavorful, the dip is great, and the tomatoes are wonderfully tender. My friend had an omelet and loved it as well. She said it was the best shes ever had. The coffee is the best Ive had at a breakfast place. I loved our waitress. She was so attentive, friendly, and on-point. Every table is set far enough apart, every table and chair is wiped down between customers, and the establishment is spotless. This made us feel safer with dining indoors. We will DEFINITELY be back!

2021-08-14The best food in mechanicville! Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, we just moved here and they make us feel like weve lived here for years. My personal favorite dish is Nicks famous french toast with blueberries.(in the picture I had strawberries this time😁)

2021-05-25A typical American diner with a bit of extra flair on the menu. Located rather out of the way in Mechanicville. Waitstaff were OK; decent prices. I had the famous French toast with spiced apples, and it was good though extremely rich. Come here for classic diner fare with a twist.

2022-05-09Today was our second time eating here (despite living in the area for years) we had lunch to go this time. As was the first time, the food was excellent. The portions are big so I could only eat half of it. Well definitely be coming again!

2021-02-07Excellent French toast. I got the Italian style with marscapone and orange zest. Was really tasty.Prompt service, distanced tables. Interior design is a bit basic, so not going there for the ambience. The food was really good and every plate that passed me looked yummy. Ill be going back to try different items.

2022-06-29Got a bacon egg and cheese with home fries didn’t like either. Didn’t get it taken off the bill. Even the atmosphere wasn’t good. Way to open, felt empty.

2022-05-21Friendly, welcoming. Good food, great prices and kids of coffee refills even on a busy Saturday morning.Since our first visit, weve become regulars. The food is always consistent. While there are some new faces in there recently, the service is still very good. Staff all work as a team and help each other out. Whether its delivering your food, refilling your coffee, or bussing tables to get people seated quickly, they strive for good service.
